Thanksgiving Dinner With My Flight Crew Family

I had this written a few weeks in advance. Thought that was clever. Then I asked Loretta where she was having Thanksgiving dinner. Never think you’re clever. She informed me that in Canada they celebrated Thanksgiving weeks ago. How egotistical of me! re-write! Let’s start here:thaaa

In the U.S. of A. we celebrate Thanksgiving. It was a time when our countries founders just got here, were hungry, met the native Indians, ate a huge dinner and were extremely grateful. For more history than that you’ll have to see Linda. This year Thanksgiving is on November 28th.

For us Thanksgiving has some very common traditions. Families get together, eat Turkey, stuffing and Pumpkin Pie, watch football and share some of their personal family traditions.

So, here we are on the eve of our Thanksgiving. I would like to invite everyone to the traditional dinner at my house, but that would be impossible due to our physical distances. However, in our hearts we are all together sitting around our Flight Crew Thanksgiving dinner table.

thanks pilgrams

We may not be able to say, “Myron, I want a drumstick” or “Leelee pass the gravy”, but what we can do, that is traditional, is go around the dinner table and tell each other what we are thankful for.

leavesI’ll start at this end of the table.

I’m thankful for so many things including my blood family, my board family, the rest of my Flight Crew family and the continued good health of each. I’m thankful we found Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio to lighten our burdens by bringing smiles to our faces, music to our ears and joy to our hearts. I am thankful they are young, strong, healthy and humble. I’m also thankful for chocolate, puppies, trees and those dimples.

Your turn. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? What are some of your family traditions? What are you thankful for?

~Marie

  1. I am thankful that God chose to put me on this planet, in this time, in this place. For all the Blessings He has given me, to be warm, and fed, and loved (not necessarily in that order) and to have found Il Volo to fill me up – kinda like sugar cookies! Love and Happy Thanksgiving to all; Ignazio, Piero, Gianluca, Flight Crew!

  2. I’m thankful that God has given me a great family and amazing friends. I’m having an amazing life, that has let me feel all the love we have for each other because we love “Our Boys.” I’m very grateful we all have found and love Il Volo!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!!

  3. I’m thankful that God has given me a great family and friends from all over the world and that I have been able to travel and hear great music from our Angels, Gianluca, Ignacio & Piero that always warms my heart. Happy Thanksgiving to il Volo and The Flight Crew!

  4. I’m thankful for all of the things already mentioned, and would like to add that I am also thankful for G-d’s gifts of eyes to see and ears to hear and the wonderful music from Our Boys and the joy it brings to me every time I hear it – not to mention this marvelous blog and the great people and friends that meet here. It is truly something special and something to be very, very thankful for!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

  9. I do give thanks for the advent of the guys transformed into Il Volo and what I hope will be a long career for them and us. Then comes getting to know each of those three individuals along with Barbara as a unique individual. Seeing them on videos or interviews is fine but does not always capture the correct picture. I was in for a suprize the first time I met them face-to-face. On email Barbara can be a tough and strong minded person (stubborn ? ) but in person she is really a very nice person and still tough. Gianluca was quiet at first (I think because there are not too many loud-mouth men around them ) but as time went on the charm and care came out in rivers from that wonderful young man. Ignazio comes off as the clown but in person he is so thoughtful and wants to talk longer. Piero used to come off (for me) as the egotist and always willing to make fun of things. That turns out to not be the case. He does like to have fun and he is the optimist. He is very interested in the individual he is talking to (he took more time with me the first time – again because I was one of only a few men around at that time). Day to day communication is not always easy but I hope and pray that improves in the next weeks. Then from the existence of those guys came the ill-fated official web site which a number of us complained about which then led to this Flight Crew Site. Thank God ! for all the new friends and a site that functions so well.

Getting together: if the proposed Fan Club gets the approval soon and we actually do get to plan a weekend celebration of Il Volo with Il Volo in Las Vegas ( I know that is a lot of “ifs”) then we will be inviting all of you to come for that event. Marie can be my guest in the kitchen to cook for Flight Crew people. ( Sorry about that. I couldn’t pass up on her comment). It may be a dream to get us all together but what fun it would be. Love to all of you and have a great Thanksgiving.

  10. Unfortunately, I have little family left, but I am here in North Carolina (freezing my you know what off), with my sister, brother-in-law, and a couple of his cousins which is making me most thankful. I have so much to be thankful for that I could go on and on. Of course, I’m thankful for Ignazio, Piero, and Gianluca for if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be able to share our love and our thoughts and make the wonderful friends we’ve made on this blog.

I wish each and everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!

    1. Leelee – you must be in the NC mountains! I am in NC too – Raleigh and we are not that cold! Very sunny on this Thanksgiving morning! Have a great day Leelee and everyone!

      1. Michele, I’m only about an hour and a half away from you to the east. Remember, if it drops below 60, I’m freezing. I’m too used to the Florida weather. Had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hope you did, too.

  11. We do not have a Thanksgiving Holiday, nevertheless I’ am very happy you love, enjoy and appreciate what it very well appears to be now one of Italy best export: Il Volo
    Cheers to All

  12. I am thankful that I have a great family – my devoted husband, two lovely daughters, my 91 years old mother, my sisters, my Flight Crew board sisters, all of you here, and of course my dearest Gianluca, Piero, and Ignazio. I am having the most wonderful time of my life!!

  13. Thankful for my large family…my two sons my sweet little cat ziggy. The abundance of food we have…all the blessings. God bestows on me each day…all the flight crew… and those three sweet angels who I adore. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Be safe.

  14. Happy Thanksgiving to all ! We have much to be thankful for, our lives, our families, our senses, our love for each other and our sweeties. This is a wonderful spot in the virtual universe–even when I am not commenting I am certainly reading and appreciating! Thank to the board who do all the work and make it a pleasure for the rest of us.

  15. I am thankful for so much. Yes, like everyone else, I’m thankful for Il Volo, so I can listen to beautiful music every day. I am also thankful that people are willing to be organ donors. I am having a corneal transplant on Monday. Also, I’m so thankful for the love and support of family. My husband and I are hosting 20 family members for dinner tomorrow. Boy, will it be crowded.
    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

      1. Yes Marie I am lucky to have so many people to share Thanksgiving with.. We had my husband’s 3 kids, spouses, and grandkids, we had my son and girlfriend, my sister, two of my nieces and their families, and even my husband’s ex-wife.

Thank you for the good luck wishes.

      1. Loretta, this is truly sweet, and I will appreciate the prayers. Needless to say I’m getting pretty nervous.

    1. Beautiful blessings on your Thanksgiving celebration and your welcoming of this wonderful new cornea into your life, Barbara! My husband donated his corneas (14 years ago). I was so grateful there was such a concrete way that he could continue to offer life and gratitude into the world, even after he passed on.

I am listening to We Are Love and sending prayers of gratitude for the service of your cornea until Monday, for the organ donor and loved ones, for the new cornea, for the new cornea and your body forming a wonderful bond of teamwork, and for the joy of seeing the glory of this world, including the smiles and power and antics of our sweet Ignazio, Piero, and Gianluca!

      Happy Thanksgiving,
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. Jeanine, my heart goes out to you, losing your husand so many years ago. That must be horrible. And he must have been a caring person, willing to donate corneas so people like me can retain their sight. Fortunately I can see our dear boys quite well because my near vision is decent, my distance vision is what has been severely affected by a disease called Fuch’s Dystrophy.

        Thanks for the prayers,

      2. Thanks for your warm words, Barbara! I have been carried by Grace through the experience of my husband dying when I was still relatively young. He was a good man.

Glad you can see Our Boys and soon so much more! I have a friend who had F.D., and the surgery went very well.

More prayers, including for a peaceful good night’s sleep,
        ~ Jeanine D.

  16. For everyone–have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And special thanks to the people responsible for this website. It is just what was needed — and then some. Thanks to you all!!!

  17. I am thankful for LIFE…my family, friends, good health, good job, and discovering three wonderful young men who have blessed us with their amazing voices and pure, humble personalities. The joy they bring to us here at the Flight Crew site is immeasurable. Music is like a language all of it’s own. It moves you in ways simple words can not. I am thankful for everyone here who make me feel warm and welcome. I will be eternally thankful to Marie for setting up our own personal meeting with the guys at the MOA on Friday!!! A dream come true!!! Blessings to you all for a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    1. Beautifully said, maryjane. Gratitude for family, music in general and Il Volo in particular, what they do for music is ethereal…their voices, interpretation, personalities, great looks, emotion, the ability to reach people on a personal level and touch their hearts is incredible. Yes, we will have a wonderful time on Fabulous Friday. Still can’t quite wrap my brain around it. There will be much to tell later.

  18. I am thankful to God for letting me live at a time when 3 wonders of the world from Italy have burst onto the worldscape with real”music”, after experiencing the jarring noises of so called “singers” for what seems like ages.
I am thankful for ears to hear them, eyes to see them and a big heart to love them.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you

  19. First off I am thankful that I have the most wonderful job, the perfect job for me and I go to work eager and happy. The of course, I am so thankful to have IL VOLO in my life, they give me a special joy (& some naughtiness) ;p . I am very thankful for having found the Flight Crew and be so warmly welcomed. I had felt so alone in my love for our three beautiful young men but now that is not the case. I hope I can meet as many of you as is possible as time goes on. Life is so good at 60! I have very much to be thankful for. My family much much smaller these days but I am thankful we can still be together. Grazie and Ciao!
    Piratesorka/Connie

  20. I am thankful for so much…
I am thankful that I have a job that I love (most of the time… 😉 ). I’m thankful that I was not part of the lay offs that had to happen in my company about 6 weeks ago. I’m thankful to work for a organization that quite clearly has said, “Yes; we are making tough decisions, but we are committed to keeping as many of you as possible,” and in which I’m able to believe that they mean that.
I’m thankful for my health and my family’s health and that I plan to be spending the day with them tomorrow.
I’m thankful for friends–my online ones especially. 😀 I’m thankful to be a part of this site and to be with all of you here. I love you guys!
And I’m thankful for Il Volo. I don’t know what more to say that hasn’t already been said. I’m thankful that God gave them amazing families and this amazing talent to share with the world. I’m thankful Gad gave someone the good sense to recognize that as amazing as they are individually, they are absolutely phenomenal together. I’m thankful that they restore some of my hope and faith in the world’s youth and in good things still being found in the world. I’m thankful that they love each other as brothers and get along so well.
I’m thankful that they have given me a reason to stop and smell the roses–or, stop and listen to the music, I guess. I tend to go through life focused on getting up in the morning, going to work, coming home at night and getting through one task after the next, looking for as little upset as possible. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I wasn’t always stopping to feel or look for joy. I had forgotten my love for music–real music–and the peace that it gives me. They gave all of that back to me, and I can never thank them enough for that.

      1. I’m really June Solomon. I had to change my way to log in to comment. I wanted to say how thankful I am for family and friends. That includes all of you here. Even tho’ I don’t comment too often, I read every day. Our boys brought us all together. For that I am so thankful. I’m also thankful for my new hip. It’s made such a big difference in my quality of life.

  21. I am thankful for all of you. Thankful I found the site again and for everyone affiliated with it. Of course my great family (husband, daughter, two sons, their three spouses and six grandchildren who will all be home for Thanksgiving. Thankful for IL Volo who have changed my life in many ways. Thanking the Flight Crew for doing a great job. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to every one!

  22. I cannot tell all of you how much I have enjoyed the comments you have made. I purposely waited to respond because I KNEW how lovingly eloquent you would be! And I wanted to read every word that you wrote. I am so thankful that this site has attracted the sweetest, most caring and most intelligent group of people I have ever had the pleasure of “knowing”, and, believe me, in this long life, I have known a few!

I can’t sign off without giving thanks to my basic reason for being here… Our beloved Boys, my heart’s delight! Every day, in every way, I grow fonder and fonder of each of them. Myron, your insight into each boy’s personality was spot on. I often had wondered what they were REALLY like, and now I feel as though I know them so much better. I fervently believe that they truly are God’s gift to us all.
Happy, Happy Thanksgiving to each of you lovely people, with special thanks to our Flight Crew Board !! (Kelly, you REALLY touched my heart…You expressed yourself so beautifully.)
    Helen B.

  23. Beautiful, as usual, Marie! Thank you so much for helping all of us to share in Thanks Giving. Myron, what a treasure to hear you share your experiences of Barbara and each of Our Boys.

I celebrate thanks giving every day, and for the official U.S. holiday, I usually join with friends in my beloved Oregon. This year I am thankful I can celebrate the day with my family of origin in California, especially as family health issues are adding challenges to navigate, requiring all of us to work together in love and dedication. I’m grateful, too, for my sister’s wi fi, so I can read and share with you now.

I rejoice in the blessing of being able to be our true selves, growing in love, in self-expression, in appreciation for all we treasure on this planet and beyond. I deeply appreciate my body rejuvenating and strengthening after an injury, so that now I can dance again (halleluia!) and move with increasing vigor, stability, and delight. Of course, that brings me to soaring with IL VOLO! (; >)

I cannot begin to fully express how much you, Gianluca, Piero, Ignazio, and your IL VOLO team have brought into my life: joy, hope, beauty, Life, Love, uplift, awe, harmony, laughter, and so much more. Guys, you have opened my heart wider with each passing month and shown me the magnificence of what is possible in life and on this planet. And you are transforming our dear Earth and all its inhabitants beyond my knowing. I feel it, just as I felt rivers of tears on and off all weekend of Radio City Music Hall. I / We your family celebrate you and your gifts beyond measure!

Love and gratitude to all of you here, especially our Flight Crew Board and art contributor, who make precious IL VOLO sharing and connections possible,
    ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  24. I am grateful for my family and friends who put up with me because of love. I have actually spent a great deal of my life as a loner watching others live. Through the grace of God Il Volo was born to change my life and that of so many others. No matter the time of day or night I can reach out and find a kindred spirit somewhere in the world.

Thank you Flight Crew Board for inviting us to this wonderful place and sharing your passion. Many thanks also go to Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca for sacrificing so much of yourselves to get us love, joy, and peace through your music and lives.

Wishing everyone many Blessings on this day and every day!
    LJ

  25. Everyone has expressed themselves so beautifully that I don”t really know what to add. However, I am thankful first of all for good health so I can enjoy my beautiful family ( children and grandchildren ), and friends. Also Gianluca ,Ignazio and Piero for making me feel passionate again and you, Marie ,and the fabulous Flight Crew for creating this site where I can express this passion freely. Have a wonderful day everyone !!!!!
