T U R K E Y ~ D A Y !

thanks

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and today, the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. As we read in yesterdays post, several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

thanks 5

We are happy to celebrate this day with you for the third year in row!

If you don’t formally celebrate this day, it’s a good day to remember to give thanks anyway!

thanks 6Again this year, I’ll start…

I am thankful foremost for the health and well being of my family (the twins turned 3 this year and their mom has survived!). I am thankful for my own continued good health.

I am thankful that peace reigns in my country and we pray for the same everywhere.

I am thankful I was fortunate enough to have a friend like Linda Snyder.

I am thankful for this website.  I’m so grateful for our talented authors and contributors.  They make me laugh, cry, think and love those three Guys even more.

I cannot begin to tell you how personally grateful I am for this wonderful experience this time in my life. It has given me… YOU… The Flight Crew… the most amazingly kind and genuine people I have ever known!

My absolute joy is caused by three young men who reside on the other side of the world and just happen to sing.  I don’t know what good deeds I have done in my life that have allowed me to share with you such wonderful talent, but what a blessing!  I am thankful and grateful for Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero!s - thanksgiving 4

~Marie

Now Kelly…

Hey, Guys!

How has another Thanksgiving come up so quickly?  And how has so much of the year gone by without me remembering to be thankful for something everyday?  Do I really take that much for granted?  I don’t know, but let me list just a few of the things I’m thankful for this year…

I am tickled to death that I became an “auntie” in the last year, so I must say I’m thankful for my nephew, James.  I unfortunately didn’t get to meet him until he was 5 months old (in spite of the best laid plans of mice and men), so I’m thankful that I was able to change that this year and be there to celebrate his 1st birthday last month.  I just love him to bits and can’t wait to Skype with him on Saturday.  He’s getting old enough to have the “stranger danger” reaction, and that just won’t do…

I’m thankful  for my family, my relative health and for my job that just might drive me to drink yet.   I say that, but I keep going, so it must not be all bad.   😀  I’m thankful for the things that job has taught me about myself and about my faith in God.

thanks 10

And I am thankful for all of you!  I am thankful for Marie who keeps things going when I drop off the grid for days at a time.  I’m thankful for all of our contributors who eagerly answered our call for help and have stepped up to the task so well.  You have no idea how many concerns that you have waylaid for us.

And how could I not be thankful for 3 handsome Italians who I really don’t think have any idea how much joy they bring the world just by doing what they love and loving every minute?  I’m so thankful that more than 3 members of they same group, they are truly brothers of the heart. Family is whoever you decide it is, and love is made to be multiplied.  I can’t think of any young entertainers today that exemplify that more than Il Volo.  God Bless you, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, and your families too!

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone!

~ Kelly

Now you!

  1. People always say “God Bless You” as a form of greeting but I truly believe that he BLESSED ME thru the 80 years of joy, pain, stress and new found joy.
Our family is going to celebrate this year’s TURKEY on Saturday with a brisket and ham. Since everyone has a job, to be thankful for, that was one day everyone could get together.
I TRULY GIVE A THANK YOU for this site and all the ladies that join in and share our love for the boys.
I ALSO INVITE more of Il VOLO fans to come and join us in our daily conversations.
If I could make the step to open up and ‘bare my soul’ I know you can too. It has been an adventure.

  2. Too often we have to be reminded to be thankful for all our blessings and I am so thankful for my family, children and grandchildren. 9. Such beautiful words from Marie and Kelly, and everyone else as well! Thankful, well, where can I start? I wasn’t officially part of this group just a year ago – so much has happened! I had been through some really rough times over the past 5-6 years that included living with an alcoholic that pawned some very treasured items, losing my job, losing my house, and having to move back in with my mother. I was deeply depressed for quite a while, but kept trudging along. These guys came into my life a few years ago and literally turned it around. About the same time I found a wonderful job and boss, for which I will be forever grateful for! So, these guys have, I believe, literally been blessing me ever since I found them. And who can forget my special blessing from Ignazio this past summer at PBS!? I think I’ve said it before, but I’m also thankful for Marie, for allowing me to write here – apparently this hidden talent for writing I didn’t realize I had? I love all the warm fuzzies I get here. But truly, there are many talented authors that contribute to this site – even some comic geniuses from the commenters! 🙂 I used to work in a Project Management department and one of our training classes had to do with “making peoples’ days.” We even had special little pins made up with “BAM” on them. The letters stood for: B – be there for the person, A – accept them, M – make their day!” I think we all get this from everyone on this site, each time we sign in and read all the comments. I know many may be too shy to comment, or have the time, but we know you are reading and I hope we BAM you every time! 🙂 I’m sitting here in my chair today, thankful I don’t have to do anything or go anywhere (however, I will be going out shopping for the 6pm sales), smelling the wonderful aromas of various food items wafting out from the apartments around me. it’s a nice, balmy (although cloudy) 50 degrees in Detroit today and no rain until later this evening. So, I’m also sending my blessing to all who read this site. I hope Ignazio doesn’t mind me sharing his blessing also, as I’ve been sharing it often! So, sending mine and Ignazio’s blessings to all! Grande Amore a tutti, mi amici! 🙂

Best of luck and keep smiling always. 🙂 Happiness is like a butterfly, you keep running after it, it keeps flying away,if you stand still, it comes and sits on your shoulders. 🙂 Every sunrise give us one day more to hope.. so, hope for the best ! 🙂 Wishing you the happiest moments and all the best in every thing you do ! 🙂
      Best regards…..L

  10. We had 25 people here for dinner, and I’m thankful for each of them. I’m thankful for the wonderful church I attend, and how good they’ve been to me during my recent eye surgery. I’m thankful for my husband and son, both of who I just adore, and a wonderful stepdaughter too. AND…. I feel fortunate to have seen our wonderful guys in concert each time they appear in Detroit. And now I’m going to get personally acquainted with a few other avid Il Volo fa s.

  11. I spent yesterday at my sister’s! The food festa started at noon, proceeded through the afternoon and culminated with dinner at 8:00 pm! Went to a venison Thanksgiving at her friend’s then a Thanksgiving pig roast at another friend’s then home to her house for a traditional Thanksgiving with a Terducken!! For those of you who’ve been living under a log ( includingme!) for the last few years a Terducken is a chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey! And of course it wasn’t roasted in the oven! It had to be done in the smoker!! And the smoker has a remote temperature and timer which remained in the sole charge of the brother-in-law! “Don’t whatever you do open the smoker!!” OK! OK!
You get the drift! But all in all it was a wonderful day and I enjoyed every minute of it!
The parrot was a no show!! I did mention instead of Terducken we might have parrot stuffed inside penguin stuffed inside ostrich !!
Hmmm!! Guess he didn’t like the menu!!

  12. Not by any stretch of the imagination! Yesterday morning I woke up wit!h every intention of overeating! And I fulfilled my intentions!

  13. I’m thankful someone reached out to me, listened when no one else would. Who know you who are and it meant the world to me. I’m so thankful for Chuck. Even though he is now in heaven, I know he is watching over me. I’m thankful for forgiveness and second chances. Lastly, I’m so thankful for Marie. When my reading was very hard and could not speak, I would always read the Flight Crew blog. It took a long time and I missed a lot of the words, but I could the gist of it. It took a lot of speech therapy, but I wanted to be able to comment and spar with Marie regarding the dimpled one. Thank you, Marie, for your encouraging words. Of course, I’m so very thankful for the boys. Their music has soothed me when things have been hard and heals me every day. I hope all of you in the Flight Crew had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

    1. Thank you Laura.

Look at you and just how far you have come! I know it was a lot of hard work. I remember when you could barely write a sentence and someone had to finished your email for you. That made me weep. Now look how beautifully you express yourself! I’m so proud of you! Love you!

However, the dimpled one still belongs to me!
