This is my post dedicated to new album of boys with my photos of the album.
New album of boys was born, again is full of stunning, magical, cheerful and also melancholy music. Personally I would not want to compare this album with previous from the boys, because it is different, and maybe shows the future path of their career, who knows ? But certainly is full of wonderful music for the soul, music which is able to take us to higher spiritual dimension. Each of their albums has its own beauty and poetry. This album is full of beautiful and well-known classical songs and arias. I have collected for you some information about those songs. It’s nice to learn a bit more about them. Hope you will enjoy it.
Nessun dorma – is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot and is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. In the aria, Calaf expresses his triumphant assurance that he will win the princess.
Granada – is a song written in 1932 by Mexican composer Agustín Lara. The song is about the Spanish city of Granada and has become a standard in music repertoire.
Mattinata – English: “Morning” was the first song ever written expressly for the Gramophone Company. Composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo in 1904, this song was dedicated to Enrico Caruso, who was the first to record it in 1904 with the composer at the piano.
L’elisir d’amore: Una furtiva lagrima – The Elixir of Love is a comic opera in two acts by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. Felice Romani wrote the Italian libretto, after Eugène Scribe’s libretto for Daniel Auber’s Le philtre (1831). The opera premiered on 12 May 1832 at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan.”Una furtiva lagrima” (A furtive tear) is the romanza from act 2, scene 8 of the Italian opera L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti. It is sung by Nemorino (tenor) when he finds that the love potion he bought to win the heart of his dream lady, Adina, works.Nemorino is in love with Adina, but she is not interested in a relationship with an innocent, rustic man. To win her heart, Nemorino buys a love potion with all the money he has in his pocket. That love potion is actually a cheap red wine sold by a traveling quack doctor, but when he sees Adina weeping, he knows that she has fallen in love with him, and he is sure that the “elixir” has worked.
La danza – (1835) is a patter song by Gioachino Rossini, in Tarantella napoletana time, the eighth song of the collection Les soirées musicales (1830–1835). The lyrics are by Count Carlo Pepoli, librettist of Vincenzo Bellini’s opera I puritani. “La danza” was loosely the original source of the popular wedding tarantella C’è la luna mezzo mare, and its English versions Oh! Ma-Ma! and Lazy Mary.
Tosca: E lucevan le stelle – (“And the stars were shining”) is a romantic aria from the third act of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Tosca, composed in 1900 to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It is sung by Mario Cavaradossi (tenor), a painter in love with the singer Tosca, while he waits for his execution on the roof of Castel Sant’Angelo.
Torna a surriento – is a Neapolitan song composed in 1902 by Italian musician Ernesto De Curtis to words by his brother, the poet and painter Giambattista De Curtis. The song was copyrighted officially in 1905, and has since become one of the most popular songs of this traditional genre, which include others such as O sole mio, Funiculì, funiculà, and Santa Lucia.
Core ‘ngrato – (Ungrateful Heart), also known by the first words Catarì, Catarì (short and dialectal form for Caterina, a female first name), is a 1911 Neapolitan song by emigrant American composer Salvatore Cardillo with lyrics by Riccardo Cordiferro (real name Alessandro Sisca). In the song, Catarì’s lover reproaches the girl for thoughtlessly and heartlessly rejecting his abiding love for her; he implores her not to forget that he has given her his heart and that his soul is in torment; and he says he has confessed his feelings to a priest, who advised him to let her go.
O paese d’o sole (Land of the Sun) – is an Italian song of 1925, written by Vincenzo D’Annibale and Libero Bovio.
Maria – is a song from the Broadway musical West Side Story, sung by the lead character Tony. The music was written by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The song was published in 1956. “Maria” is sung by the male lead Tony when he learns the name of the girl he’s fallen in love with is “Maria”. The name “Maria” is spoken or sung in the song 27 times.
For interest: I have read that the song is an example of the use of Lydian mode, which is the same as the major scale but with a raised 4th, giving the tritone characteristic of this piece. The modern Lydian musical scale is a rising pattern of pitches comprising three whole tones, a semitone, two more whole tones, and a final semitone. The Lydian mode is often described (or learned) as the scale that begins on the fourth scale degree of the major scale, or alternatively, as the major scale with the fourth scale degree raised half a step.(I am surprised that my name (Lydia) is using in this cause. )
My way – is a song popularized by Frank Sinatra. Its lyrics were written by Paul Anka and set to the music of the French song “Comme d’habitude” co-composed, co-written and performed in 1967 by Claude François. Anka’s English lyrics are unrelated to the original French song.
Tonight – is a popular song with music written by Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and was published in 1956.It was introduced in the Broadway musical West Side Story.
‘O surdato ‘nnammurato – “The Soldier in Love” is a famous song written in the Neapolitan language. The song is used as the anthem of S.S.C. Napoli.The words were written by Aniello Califano and the music composed by Enrico Cannio in 1915. The song describes the sadness of a soldier who is fighting at the front during World War I, and who pines for his beloved.
Mamma – is a popular song composed in 1940 by Cesare Andrea Bixio with Italian lyrics by Bixio Cherubini under the title “Mamma son tanto felice” (Mum, I am so happy).
Cielito lindo – is a popular Mexican song from a Spanish copla (is a form of Spanish popular song) , popularized in 1882 by Mexican author Quirino Mendoza y Cortés. It is roughly translated as “Lovely Sweet One”. Although the word cielo means “sky” or “heaven”, it is also a term of endearment comparable to sweetheart or honey. Cielito, the diminutive, can be translated as “sweetie”; lindo means “cute”, “lovely” or “pretty”. Sometimes the song is known by words from the refrain, “Canta y no llores” or simply the “Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay song”.
En aranjuez con tu amor – The Concierto de Aranjuez is a composition for classical guitar and orchestra by the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo, written in 1939. The Concierto de Aranjuez was inspired by the gardens at Palacio Real de Aranjuez, the spring resort palace and gardens built by Philip II in the last half of the 16th century and rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century by Ferdinand VI. The work attempts to transport the listener to another place and time through the evocation of the sounds of nature.Composer described the concerto as capturing “the fragrance of magnolias, the singing of birds, and the gushing of fountains” in th e gardens of Aranjuez.
La tabernera del puerto (also known as Romance Marinero) is a zarzuela (is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular song, as well as dance. The etymology of the name is uncertain, but some propose it may derive from the name of a Royal hunting lodge, the Palacio de la Zarzuela near Madrid, where, allegedly, this type of entertainment was first presented to the court The palace was named after the place called “La Zarzuela” because of the profusion of brambles (zarzas) that grew there, and so the festivities held within the walls became known as “Zarzuelas”.) in three acts by composer Pablo Sorozábal. The opera uses a Spanish-language libretto by Federico Romero and Guillermo Fernández-Shaw. The work premiered at the Teatro Tivoli in Barcelona on 6 April 1936.
No puede ser – (It cannot be) is an aria sung by Leandro (tenor) in the second act of the zarzuela, La tabernera del puerto, composed by Pablo Sorozábal to a libretto by Federico Romero and Guillermo Fernández-Shaw. La tabernera del puerto premiered in Barcelona in 1936. One of the most famous arias in the Spanish language.
Non ti scordar di me – (Never Forget About Me) was written by Ernesto de Curtis, Domenico Furnò and was first recorded by Beniamino Gigli in 1935.
O sole mio – is a globally known Neapolitan song written in 1898. Its lyrics were written by Giovanni Capurro and the music was composed by Eduardo di Capua and translates literally as “my sunshine”.
Libiamo ne`lieti calici – “Let’s drink from the joyful cups” is a famous duet with chorus from Verdi’s La traviata, one of the best-known opera melodies. The song is a brindisi, a lively song that encourages the drinking of wine or other alcoholic beverages.The duet is performed in the first act of the opera, during a late-night party at Violetta Valéry’s house. It is sung by Violetta and Alfredo Germont, a young man who is in love with her. Alfredo is convinced by his friend Gastone and by Violetta to show off his voice. He begins this drinking song, later joined by Violetta and the rest of the company. The words were written by Francesco Maria Piave.
Adeste Fideles– “Hymn on the Prose for Christmas Day”, “O Come, All Ye Faithful” (originally written in Latin as Adeste Fideles) is a Christmas carol which has been attributed to various authors. An original manuscript of the oldest known version, dating from 1751, is held by Stonyhurst College in Lancashire. Also known as Prosa In Nativitáte Dómini, the Portuguese Hymn, and Adeste, Fidelis.
Ave Maria, Mater Misericordiae –Giorgio F. Pintus and Romano Musumarra, is new song, really wonderful, powerful and touching song, has an atmosphere (mood) to shiver with your soul, touch your heart, and give you goosebumps, invokes deep emotions, great for tuning in to the spiritual dimensions. (Already my new favorite song. I think all people must love that song. )
