Capolavoro 2024 by Susan

The Lion wants you to Click the picture below!
Today I decided not to post a story. I want Daniela to take my post so she can report the events of Sanremo!

I hope you had the opportunity to watch Sanremo or at least heard Capolavoro (Masterpiece). All I can say is the song has the right title! Like every song they sing they take your breath away! It is a Masterpiece because they are a Masterpiece!

The guys have been having a wonderful time at Sanremo but, I’ll let Daniela tell you about that!
I hope you enjoy the events of this week! I will be back next week!
My message to the guys is you are phenomenal! No one can present a song or perform like you can. That’s why you are the Masterpiece!
We all wish you Good Luck!  We’re rooting for you!

In bocca al lupo!

  1. Buongiorno! You can watch San Remo for free on the RAIplay phone app. There are also videoclips of all of the songs.

  2. Thanks, Susan. I was able to watch them do Capolavoro at Sanremo last night on Youtube before 11 p.m., along with many other solos.

  3. They are and were a Masterpiece! I watched the video last evening and played it over and over!

  4. The clip I saw wasn’t as beautiful sounding as this is. I love this song, and will go on YouTube to see if I can find them at Sanremo. I am praying for them and wish them all the best. Win or lose, they are the best as far as I am concerned.

  5. Pelo menos, aqui no Brasil, a transmissão do festival foi liberada pela RaiPlay. Através do notebook pude assistir a ótma apresentação do Il Volo. uma verdadeira obra prima!

  6. Thanks Susan, I also watched the show on You tube. CAPOLAVORO was beautiful as expected because everything they do is magic….MASTERPIECE. I guess it really wasn’t enough for the press…who seem to think they are the masterpiece! My heart sunk this morning to see they weren’t even in the top 5! Some of acts were average or less and few stood out, I thought IRAMA was one but certainly ILVOLO deserved to be in the top 5 at a minimum. I thought it was beautiful how on the green carpet they played GRAND AMORE and everyone was singing …..the smiles were golden on our guys! Was 3 minutes the limit for the songs, many seemed so much longer!
If I understand the rules they get to perform their song at least one more time for the public or does not being in the 5 negate that chance??
    Heartbroken for them💔, Carol💖💖💖😘🤗🙏🏻🎼🎶🎤😳🙏🏻☮️

    1. I wasn’t able to watch it live, but I did watch it on youtube last night, and I was struck at how little applause they got. Really very unenthusiastic. Ignazio made an ironic bow at the end of the video–at least to me it seemed a statement on the lack of response to their performance. Did anyone else see it that way, or is it just me?

      1. Greetings .. the audience was subdued throughout last night IMO except for the exhibition by Marco, last year’s winner. He had background dancers, flashing lights, the works. As luck would have it, Il Volo was the next act up. But I watched day 2 live earlier today & their performance was amazing! The audience was very enthusiastic & there was a group yelling bravi, bravi. Whatever happens, I’m proud of them. Their class & passion shines through. Cute moment .. Gian gave his flower bouquet to his Mom 🥰

      2. I looked for a video of today’s performance but all I can find is the original one from yesterday. If anyone has seen a video of night 2, please send me a link!!

      3. Anyone know results yet? Tonight’s performance made me 😢 so emotional yet wonderful

    2. Carol, the 3-minute limit is for the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s why a sizeable chunk of Grande Amore was chopped out when they sang at Eurovision. Songs at Sanremo can be any length. Some songs sounded longer than 3 minutes because they were.

  7. I watched it on RaiPlay yesterday afternoon and was in tears from the beginning to end! The guys looked AMAZING and sounded fantissimo (new word?)! The video seen above is beyond WORDS , absolutely love it! I did watch a couple of others and this is not the time for commenting. My only comment is if Italy is the fashion capital of the world, I politely disagree!
If any readers are able to VOTE, PLEASE vote your limit! Our guys deserve 1,000,000 votes ❤️

  8. They didn’t make the top 5????? What???? The journalists strike again. I am watching one of the top five — doesn’t come close. Somebody vote for this American fan. Vote, vote, vote when you can. Win or lose, they are always in my prayers and in my heart.

      1. I saw a list of the top 10 and il volo wasn’t on there! Of course everything in Italian so I could be mistaken! Tell Vérone who can vote to vote as often as they are able!

  9. Didn’t have an opportunity to see them last night. The music and voices in the video above were wonderful, but the video itself was a little too busy for me. Love our young men and, even if they aren’t in the top 50, they are still tops with me! Hugs, Dol.

  10. Finally, finally did I get to hear ”Capolavoro” . I stayed up till 02:00 am in order to watch the show directly on http://www.raiplay.it It was a struggle making me hit the ceiling a couple of times, as my internet appeared not being strong enough to load sufficiently fast hence the program stopped and stalled every 20 seconds and prolonged the whole affair with more than one and a half hour! It even stalled some 8 tines during the guy’s performance, so I had to go to Youtube to hear the song in one full piece… But it was worth the wait and patience as WOW what a lovely little song and what a beautiful performance! Kudos – it was the perfect song for the purpose – perfectly presented by 3 gorgeous looking guys – indeed “cabolavoro”. And I must say – the guys looked stunning in their new haute couture outfits – all black from top to toe. Modern and young yet elegant and moderate. They couldn’t have done it better!

The more I hear “Cabolavoro” the more I like it. The intro is beautiful with Gianluca singing unbelievable soft and reaching notes higher than ever before – but in such a soft and fine way it had the hair on my arms raise. Maybe it was falcetto? – I have never heard him sing like this before. And I did hardly reckon the shift to Piero as, likewise, he did start out extremely soft and warm before slowly raising the level to the stronger and more regular Il Volo sound. Then Ignazio enters using his typical somewhat rougher and more edgy voice giving the song full strength and perfect harmonizing the way we love to hear the guys. Beautiful. The song has a melodic intro, a catchy refrain and is light and fresh. OK it doesn’t have the strength or Grande Amore. With this song they have down-toned the lyrical and powerful sides and focused on a softer more mainstream pop-sound in order to accommodate a younger crowd, which is perfect for the Sanremo Festival and the Eurovision Song Contest. And they have succeeded in this respect. Whether this new concept is for this single purpose only – or to prevail on their upcoming album is, however, a different matter – and as a core fan I do, of course, hope that we shall still experience our guys for full power in their good old way. We have come to know Il Volo as “cameleons”, so I trust that they will adapt to each upcoming concert/situation choosing exactly the repertoire and “look” that will fit same. I cannot wait for the album to be released

As to The Sanremo Festival I have previously said my two cents – unfortunately, the worst anticipated scenario seems to be the situation with the result of the voting by the Press last night. I am going to refrain from commenting – but I truly lack to understand! “Cabolavoro” was so absolutely one of the very best songs presented – if not the only one – and definitely qualifying for a first place. Hence, how on Earth an elderly “lady” with blue hair, strangely dressed and an odd rough voice singing a song with hardly no melody can be the top-choice of the Press makes me speechless. Hopefully, Daniela can enlighten us in this respect – as honestly at first, I thought it was a joke and had me laughing…. Well, all we can hope is, that the public tele-votes will help tonight and the coming evenings – so dear members with Italian relatives, please make them vote, vote and once again vote!

    1. Oh, Kirsten, if only you were able to be a mediator in this Festival, instead of the “press” which is able to vote!!! You said it all for us. I only wish I could see the performances on my TV, but maybe later on when the Festival is over I’ll get to see it. Hugs, Dol.

    2. Hi Kirsten,
I was shocked to hear that falcetto from Gianluca. I genuinely think that he is (one of) the best baritone(s) in the world, so where is the need to make him sing higher notes? I also had the impression that Piero is singing too a small party in the song, he would be able to sing very powerfully as a tenir but now they have give him just one line to sing alone! Ignazio is at his best in this song, he is fantastic. The song itself is not a big deal, it is like a gentle whisper in the wind. A little romantic pop song. Maybe I am too old-fashioned (38 yo) and do not understand anything about pop music. I hope they won’t become too pop.

  11. This song will be a success.wether they win or not .it will be playing all over the world because the fans will love it.who will remember the rest.a successful ilvolo.italy should be proud

  12. Gianluca,Ignazio and Piero you are the real Capolavoro!!!! You are sooo loved all over the world…there is nobody like you!!! Your song is the best I heard in the Sanremo festival.

  13. Anxiously awaiting to see what happens. Il Volo is so prepared, so talented, they deserve to win on that alone. However, what are the tastes of those who watch, attend and vote?

  16. Just finished watching the guys perform on night 2 … they did amazing!!! And great audience reaction, too, lots of cheers throughout & yelling bravi, bravi!!! Personally, I can’t stop listening to the song .. love it 😍

  17. Firstly Susan – thank you for the privilege of allowing us all a little glimpse into IL Volo singing Capolavoro & also to YouTube for the wonderful enchanting presentation of Capolavoro – the song is Heavenly!! – listening to Piero – Ignazio & Gianluca I felt as though I was visiting the Eternities Sanremo is nothing – our guys are at a much higher place – much love.

  18. It’s a no from me. A damp squib. Very weak song consisting their vocal abilities. The opening was fine with the piano and Gianluca; it then became a damp squib. I expected the opening verse to lead to some oomph but it flatlined. Piero was the third wheel. He features so little that removing him from the song entirely would have no impact. The meaning of the lyrics is not my cup of tea either (). Talk about an impossibility. The only person who can make you feel good is you and the only person who can make you feel bad is you – and that is the absolute truth. A song about joy, freedom, passion, appreciation, happiness and positive expectation without the self doubt and self pity is a good place to start.

I still want them to win, but even if they actually had a decent song they won’t. Bring back the bel canto. They tried before changing their image and song style (the horrendous reggaeton🤬) yet they twanged back to how they were.

( You are all welcome to imagine a dislike button under this comment and mentally select it because my views will not be popular.)

    1. The bit in the brackets () got removed.

The meaning of the lyrics are my life is not good, I am lost, creating feelings of self doubt, of self pity, woe is me; then an angelic love interest/ saviour comes along and my not-so-good life is good and has meaning. I rely on you to improve my feelings about myself.

(How I worded this in my first comment was better.)

      1. Thanks Dol. Elaine’s vile comment was a blatant ad hominid attack so I defended myself and ripped her accusations apart. Hugs back atcha.

      2. Dear Thordis, it’s a tough criticism, these were feelings they were experiencing not any of us. If that’s how you felt you are entitled to your opinion but please don’t be so negative because you didn’t care for the song or the presentation ….you got alittle too personal !😡

      3. Carol, it seems I’m not making myself clear. I gave my opinion about the song and for the umpteenth time, made no comment about the presentation, looks, clothes, hair, staging, choreography, etc., etc. But YOU have commented on these things. No personal attacks against Il Volo were made by me. I focused only on the song. There are others commenting they are not keen on the song, but I’m not seeing them getting the hate I am.

Was one of the likes to Elaine’s post you? You must believe her slagging me off is justified. It isn’t. And I will always give better than I get. I knew my opinion would not be popular, but I had no hesitation making it public. Criticising my comment in a constructive way is fine, bitching about me is not.

I am still waiting for Elaine to apologise. I don’t expect it because she’ll be long gone from here.

  19. Nothing that you have said can convince me that these guys were as bad as you try to make them sound that they looked bad if they sounded bad that they acted bad that even one of them didn’t even need to be there I cannot believe that you are not a very sarcastic person they have never been like that they would never been like that I saw it and I loved it I love their their outfits in the black I loved it I was just stunned with joy as Jim Lucas started out it was the most beautiful I think I’ve ever heard him his passion his feeling everything he was awesome. Right there on the mark to bring his middle a sweet voice in and this time for change Ignacio actually had a little bigger part of course his voice is so unique that we all love it he’s always full of energy and love and joy and passion I see nothing like you saw I think that you’re a bitter person and I don’t care if you don’t like these in fact I kind of hope you don’t because somebody with an attitude like yours can only bring harm to other people these guys work hard San Remo isn’t a judge of their abilities of their popularity of their talent and their gifting their loved all over the world are you they work very hard they’ve given up most of their youth they are excellent they are a gift to us and they will go on forever too bad you can’t see the good in it I know that this world is crazy now and people want to be shocked they want the unusual they want the ridiculous sorry you’re not going to get it from Il Volo because these are men of character men of passion men of morals men of Common Sense and decency I saw the song I don’t care what kind of clothes they had on they can wear whatever they want to it’s it’s a fun thing it’s something to rejoice and have fun and relax at but they look so elegant as a presented it in their black suits you can do nothing to discourage us if these guys don’t win what should I probably won’t because everybody’s always been prejudiced against them it won’t stop them it won’t even matter because people all over the world love them now they love them after San Remo and will always cherish them so quit your bad mouth on if you didn’t like them just say you didn’t like them and quit tearing them down they work very very hard to bring a very wonderful program goodbye

    1. Elaine I couldn’t agree with you more! Trashing them only shows the mentality of the trasher! Everyone is entitled to their opinion but make it short, and my mother always said if you can’t say anything nice then be quiet! What is a squib?
I watched quite a few on the first round and I won’t comment on their ability’s or lack there of!
Our boys have class, energy, care and compassion! I felt thir appearance was classy and professional, including the second night, one white, one black and the other in black and white-seems pretty smart since they are all singing about the words of the song affect each other! Blessings and remember they never planned to sing Hallelujah!!

      1. Das Outfit fand ich passend und hat mir gut gefallen. Trotz unterschiedlichem Stil sah man, dass die 3 zusammen gehören. Nur die gegelten Haare fand ich nicht so schön.

      2. Sheila, I trashed the song, not Il Volo. I would trash it no matter what group were singing it.

I honestly cannot believe you have never heard of a damp squib. Google is your friend.

      3. Thanks for your comment Thordis. I was honestly too emotional when I read your comments and others! I don’t think, speak or read Italian and am 9 hours behind getting information , not an excuse just my realty. I love the group and hope I will be able to see them next year in the USA. I am not on Facebook. I don’t hate anyone other than those who continue senseless wars!!

      4. Now I know what is a damp squib!! Thanks, it does give context to your comment!

    2. (My apologies to everyone else. You may wish to skip this comment.)

Elaine, bad mouthing me has no impact. Read my comment objectively. I gave an HONEST opinion about the SONG. Had I given an opinion about the songs of Mahmood or that dreadful sounding blue-haired woman, you would not have gotten angry. Hate me all you want. Trust me I don’t care.

I never said they sounded bad and looked bad. I said the song is crap and Il Volo deserves a song of a better calibre. Do you understand or are you blinded by raged and hatred? Go on darling, quote where I said they sounded and looked bad. I am waiting. You know how much I said about their appearance (their clothes, their hair, the staging) and their voices? Nothing. My comment was about the song, yet you got on your high horse and accused me of attacking the guys themselves.

You also called me bitter (did you forget to add jealous of their looks and talents?) and someone looking for controversy. So according to your logic, it not OK for me to criticise the song and only the song, but it is perfectly acceptable for you to call me an evil person multiple times in your response. Pot, kettle.

There have been many comments on several posts criticising their choice of clothing. Fact 1: not one of those comments was made by me; Fact 2: you never responsed to a single one of those comments.

“if you didn’t like them just say you didn’t like them and quit tearing them down” This is something you typed Elaine. A case of not following your own advice. If you didn’t like my comment, just say you didn’t like it and quit tearing me down. Although your comment would have been much shorter had you skipped the assassination of my character and not included fanciful responses to things that I never said.

Also where did I mentioned about wanting Il Volo to shock us? Something else you invented.

My point about Piero was he features so little and they needed to give him more solo.

Their names are Gianluca and Ignazio, not Jim Lucas and Ignacio. Someone who “loves” them so much would have the decency to spell their names correctly.

I’ve followed them since they were on Alan Titchmarsh’s show at the start of their career and I intend to still be following them when they’re in their 70s.

I don’t like one of their song and said it. In public. I never said I don’t like them. I’m not the only person to not like it. Get on the allthingsilvolo Facebook page. You may wish to attack all the people on there that don’t agree with you as well as attacking me. Hating others because they have a difference opinion to you is pathetic.

  20. I really liked the song the more I listened to it although was really disappointed that Piero didn’t have more part in the song, really think that would have been more in their favor. I think all of them are on equal footing so they all should have had equal parts, my opinion only. I still am one of their biggest fans and can’t wait till they return to the US. Thought IlVolo outshone them all.
