Surely what we want to convey is that it is an experience to live, for example the Nessun Dorma, even if you don’t listen to classical music, it is an experience, something that must excite you, because it is not earthly as a melody, it is almost linked to an energy, I don’t know, universal! Do you understand that there are types of music and writing that truly embrace all ages, it’s almost not tied to a genre, it’s an experience like walking through the streets of Rome or Tuscany, you understand? It’s linked to that sensation there, to that emotion!
M.CAMPESE= True, but is there an absurd location that they proposed to you, like the first concert in space in history?
PIERO= The Kiyomizu Dera Temple. You must know that it is the oldest temple in the city of Kyoto and no one has ever held a concert there, because it is a temple overlooking a forest, so there is no audience there, and because they had to make a special to then broadcast in cinemas in Japan and therefore we recorded this concert without the audience, so it was the conductor or the orchestra who applauded. It was special and I also remember the heat and humidity of that evening, but it’s beautiful!

Das war ein langer schöner interessanter Beitrag. Über eines freue ich mich: dass es noch mehr Leute gibt, die wegen Il Volo angefangen haben, Italienisch zu lernen. Ich lerne seit 9 Monaten, jeden Tag zwei Stunden, eine morgens nach dem Frühstück und eine am Nachmittag oder am Abend. Ich wollte nicht nur die Lieder hören, die kann man sich übersetzen, aber besonders gern verstehen, was sie alles auf der Bühne sagen. Ich verstehe inzwischen sehr viel, allerdings sprechen die Jungens, hauptsächlich Gianluca, sehr schnell. Piero spricht mit Bedacht und Ignazio macht öfters Pausen zum Überlegen. Ich muss also noch lange weiterlernen.
Was mich enttäuschte, dass Gianluca sagte, nein, sie werden kein neues Buch rausbringen. Ich habe drei Bücher von ihnen. Ich habe noch nicht alles übersetzt, das dauert seine Zeit, aber es sind so wunderschöne Geschichten.
Leider lese ich nirgendwo etwas über Gianlucas Freundin Claudia. Das würde mich schon interessieren. Vielleicht mal einen Satz oder ein Foto.

It‘s wonderful that there are more people who began learning italien to understand the lyrics of Il Volo.
I have been learning Italien for 9 months now, every day two hours, one hour in the morning after breakfast and one in the afternoon. For me is important to understand what the young men tell on the stage, listen to their jokes and so on. Meanwhile I understand a lot, but Gianluca speaks too fast, Piero thinks more about what he is telling, that‘s better for me and Ignazio stops often and searches for words in his mind.
I am disappointed about what Gianluca was saying, that they won‘t bring a new book out. I have three of those, but they are old. It would be great to read something of the presence.
What a pity that I read nothing about Gianluca’s girlfriend Claudia. It would be interesting for me. Perhaps someone knows something about the couple.

I have the same opinion as Gianluca. There are so many wonderful Christmas songs but my favourite is „White Christmas“ with Bing Crosby.

Oh, Daniela, how I enjoy your translations! This one was like a Christmas gift with songs included. I had to laugh out loud about their choices of who they could portray in the nativity scene :)) They are so creative. These interviews are happening more and more often – I’m happy for them. Their countrymen have finally “discovered” Il Volo. May the Christmas season and the New Year be peaceful, cheerful, healthy and merry for the Flight Crew and all Il Volovers.
I agree Mzaeska, in Italy they are finally discovering how sincere and nice Gianluca Piero and Ignazio are and I too laughed at Ignazio’s choice to be the ox, but none of them are the donkey!!

Thank you so very much Daniela and Pat for yet a fine article with translations and explanations enabling us non-Italian-speaking fans to learn of the thoughts and activities of our beloved guys. It seems that the long Radio interview was indeed made in a good spirit with lots of jokes sparked into the air. Teasing and fooling around with the subjects. Even though translated into English I do believe I am missing out of some of the funny angles and/or irony – but at least it gives a good idea about what was covered and some of the latest news from the guys. After all English is neither my national tongue, so irony can be difficult to detect and understand. So thanks again so much for taking the time to do this big job for us.
I am puzzled as to what they have in mind in respect to their upcoming Italian indoor concerts…. Gianluca airs something about the music – only, I am very much in doubt what he means in this respect. Does he mean that they have composed some music themselves? Or that they will be playing instruments? Or that the orchestra is giving time to play something on their own without them singing? Or is he talking of new songs in their repertoire? Do you have any ideas? No matter I am excited to learn what new stuff they will come up with for these concerts as apparently they are going to differ from those we experienced this summer. Daniela, you need to attend one or more of them – some being close to where you live, right?
I was really surprised – and also puzzled – to learn that the guys were invited as guest performers at the grand Andrea Bocelli concert in LA and introduced so kindly (as the new generation, understanding to take over where he and the 3 tenors leave) and even doing a duet with them. I was of the understanding that the air was a bit cold between them with Andrea not being so kind to them when they did actually turn into big names in Italy as well. But it was grand to experience – and I am so happy on behalf of our guys as this was definitely a recognition of them and their music. Almost as if he was handing over the throne to them. Now, we do only need the guys to return the gesture and invite him to one of the upcoming “Tuti-per-uno” concerts in Verona next year – wouldn’t that just be perfect?
As we can understand, there seems to be no time for our guys to take a breather this month. I thought that they would have finished their commitments and concerts by now and could return to their families for the holidays – but, no, no, not Il Volo. So suddenly yesterday they turned up in Malta – and tomorrow they will be at one of the popular Italian TV-show (unless it is canned and just aired tomorrow?). Hopefully they will, however, manage to be back home in due time to enjoy the Christmas holidays with their families and unwind a bit before 2025 begs with loads of new concerts and travelling. I do recall, however, that the last couple of years they have performed at a private party in Monaco close to Christmas/New Year – so who knows if that is going to send them on the road once more this year.
Finally, I should like to wish Daniela, Pam and the entire Flight Crew – as well as all of you my dear fellow Ilvo-lovers – a very happy Festive Season and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year. Lots of love – Kirsten in Denmark

Dear Kirsten, thank you always for the compliments and I must tell you that I too thought of the words they said referring to the concerts at the Palasport and I am very interested in understanding what they meant, but we will find out soon. I didn’t get tickets for the indoor Palasport, I prefer to wait for Verona but as always I don’t take anything for granted.
You are right about the unappreciated irony, rereading the interview a little while ago, to the question: “What is the evening’s lineup ?” and Ignazio replies “if I’m not mistaken it’s 28 steps”, in reality perhaps you didn’t understand the irony, because by us lineup in italian is “scaletta” (small ladder) and therefore now we understand Ignazio’s answer!!
It’s true they are super busy, they’ve been to Malta but haven’t returned yet. I’m happy that Bocelli invited them, but I won’t change my opinion as you already know!
