I remind you that Il Volo was not in the race. On the evening dedicated to Covers (already famous songs), the rules require the competing singer to duet with other singers. Clara, who you all know by now because last year in the Arena she did a duet with Gianluca, asked Il Volo to duet with her.
From Clara’s words in an interview, it seems that she has established a beautiful friendship with our boys, there is a lot of esteem and respect and also camaraderie between them. 🥰

PIERO= I have a list of things to pack, maybe in 10 minutes I can easily pack a suitcase for two months. You know when you go to the pharmacist and tell him: “Will you give me that medicine?” and he does this and takes it? (Piero moves his arm back without turning) So he’s at our house to pack his bags.

GIANLUCA= Uh, in Paris at Charles De Gaulle, how many flights did we miss.

PIERO= But not many, if we do a statistic, guys in 16 years maybe 3 or 4 flights we have missed.

PIERO= The gossip!! (it sure is ironic).
IGNAZIO= It is not recommended to go and eat in Italian restaurants outside Italy.
GIANLUCA= No, no, there are good restaurants, but we are not negative, we try everything.
PIERO= Let’s specify!
IGNAZIO= I have never eaten a pizza outside Italy.
PIERO= Because you are a curious boy and since we are devoured by curiosity, we like to try local foods, therefore local customs.
QUESTION = What do you do when you are on the plane?
IGNAZIO= I’m sleeping. I sit down, 20 minutes pass and I fall asleep.
PIERO= So, during take-off I read, before sleeping I watch a film, then I eat and sleep, we are talking about intercontinental flights, so 15 hours of flight: I read, watch a film and eat and then I fall asleep and can sleep for 10-11 hours.
GIANLUCA= The exact same things.
QUESTION= Tell me about your concerts.
IGNAZIO= The last concerts we will do will be in Mantua on 8, 10 and 11 May at Palazzo del Te.
PIERO= we will create the third edition of ALL FOR ONE, we are waiting for you.
GIANLUCA= There will be many guests, we are working on the new repertoire because the objective of this project is to highlight our personalities, but to mix musical genres, which is always very exciting and interesting.

And by the way, by now you all know, in Italy the only concerts that will take place this year have been announced and they are in May on the 8th – 10th – 11th in Mantua at the Palazzo del Te.
In several interviews Il Volo said that in this way they show another piece of Italy.
Mantua is a beautiful town not far from Brescia.
Palazzo del Te is a beautiful building from the 1500s designed for the Gonzaga family.
Summer concerts are held in the exedra of the palace (the garden area behind the palace with the final semicircular construction), let’s hope it doesn’t rain! 🤞

Hi Judith, I’ll explain it to you straight away, the Cover evening still includes a ranking of the evening, Clara and Il Volo arrived in ninth place out of 29 singers competing. For further clarification, the competing singer was Clara, on the Cover evening, the competing singers must duet with another singer or group, Clara chose Il Volo!!
In other years the ranking of the Cover evening was added to the ranking of the other evenings. From this year it is only an end in itself and is not added to the votes of the other evenings.
The article is beautiful and all of the pictures and videos. They were wonderful with Clara. I loved it and I have watched the video many times. Thank you again and Il volo forever and Clara too. I wish they would have ended up closer to the top in duet. ❤️😘❤️

Loved all the interviews and photos and videos. I’m so excited to be going to their concert in Clearwater, I’m told it’s a beautiful venue and our guys will shine as always! When they were last here in Clearwater, my niece was asked to play flute in the orchestra! She said how genuine they were and how beautiful their voices were, fortunately she now has a full professorship at University of Montana in Bozeman teaching flute and was married last August.

I have just watched lots of singing on Rai 1HD. I can’t get it through my head how you can come 9th when you aren’t competing! The guys we suburb, spectacular and so smooth! Clara was beautiful and certainly was a wonderful voice to be added to the group! I freely admit I was a little disappointed she didn’t sing the song with Gian they sang last year – my old brain isn’t working at the moment! The one they sing facing each other!!! Say something …….
As I watched each group or individual perform, none of them look as professional as our guys!! Our guys are so suave and debonair! There is no one who can work the camera like Gian! He knows when the camera is looking for his eyes, smiles and twinkle in his eye!

Gianluca does know where the camera is at all times. I think Piero said that once in an interview. I LOVE the performance of Say Something that Gianluca and Clara did at one of the IL VOLO concerts! I still watch it! Did you know that one of the duets at Sanremo this year was Irama and Arisa who sang Say Something? I did not care for it. There was little connection between the two of them.
Yes Pat I also absolutely LOVE Say something sung by Clara and Gianluca previously! It was SPECTACULAR and when she winked to him I wanted to say ‘get a room’! LOL
the connection between them was so strong. I laughed at the backing comments – these guys don’t have to pack for their performances, make up etc- shaving, a book or two, runners, phones and chargers and good to go!

Sheila, as I have already explained, the ranking of the evening is made even if the result for the final evening is not taken into account. Il Volo was not in the competition, but Clara was, the ranking refers to her as a participant, Il Volo was Clara’s guest.
Clara invited Il Volo and not only Gianluca so the duet had to be with all the members of Il Volo and in any case the song sung in duet by Clara and Gianluca was presented during the Cover evening sung by Irama and Arisa, honestly I haven’t heard them but Irama uses a lot of autotune, which I don’t appreciate!

Carol, I myself can’t believe that the Italian press and critics don’t recognize these stars!!! They are complete singers who can sing any genre without autotune support. It’s really a shame that there is still this ostracism from the press and from some of the Italian critics who instead glorify singers without voices. How wonderful that your daughter had the opportunity to play with their orchestra!

I agree. There were young kids who voted for others that I didn’t like. Oh well it’s a shame for Clara and Il volo but I knew she was the one in the running. I couldn’t believe how many boos too. !!!!!

It was a beautiful and very moving performance. I love this song but I really like their interpretation of it. It’s a shame they only came in ninth but it doesn’t surprise me with these judges. Daniela and Pat – thanks a million again for all the hard work you have put into this article finding us clips and links to the many interviews in connection with the guys presence at this year’s San Remo Festival. So much appreciated.
I can only concur – the guys and Clara did a very fine job at the “Cover-night”. I was delighted to find the appearance of the guys so neutral yet absolute very elegant – and so much “just themselves”. And not the least – relaxed. Of course they did “steal” the attention of the performance – not due to fancy tricks nor a wish to dominate – but simply because they are out of the ordinary in all aspects and capture us all the very minute they enter a stage. But Clara did very well too, and looked really beautiful in her fine white dress. So they can all be proud of the result. Most of all though – the guys seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly throughout the process up to and during the performance – they have bonded truly with Clara and they did all seem to have so much fun together.
In the principle I would rather that the guys never attended the San Remo Festival again – never being truly appreciated and rewarded by the music critics and the press – but I do likewise see the great value of being present. The media attention is enormous and even they don’t blend in the top they are seen, heard and not the least automatically interviewed by numerous media covering audiences that do normally not belong to their fan crowds. PR that is priceless and definitely worth the while. So I do understand that they take a bite of the sour apple. And they do simply just have to learn – and accept – that they cannot make everyone happy. That’s life. Whether or not their cover-song with Clara should have made the Top 5 or even won is difficult to say. Firstly, I haven’t heard all the other competitors – secondly, in general the Festival is primarily geared at a younger crowd these days and “The Sound of Silence” isn’t exactly a song aimed at that category – and finally, it was Clara entered in the competition – and not Il Volo – hence the attention should primarily be on her presentation. So I gather that a 9th place in this category is neither sad nor great. But Clara did just fine – and hopefully, having done this duet with the guys will spark her career a bit further as well.
But now it is time for the guys to prepare for their big upcoming USA/Canada Tour – and apart from wishing them good luck – I wish all of you my American fellow-fans some wonderful experiences and fantastic times at the concerts. All of you, who have succeeded in obtaining tickets to one of their concerts: HAVE FUN!
Meanwhile, I have started the count-down to my own next concert experience having likewise been able to get tickets for one of the “Tutti per Uno” concerts in Mantua – namely on the 10th of May. I agree with everything you wrote Kirsten. Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca once again demonstrated their mastery of singing to an audience other than their fans and Clara’s added voice blended well, highlighting the ability of Clara herself, who as usual due to the vocal fashion of the moment is forced to sing silly little songs.
Elegant, beautiful and talented, what can I say they deserved much more. The vote didn’t just concern Clara, but the entire duet, how it is presented and whether it blends well with the competing singer, without overshadowing her and I say that their result was excellent…..they deserved much more.
I too haven’t heard the other duets but the ranking speaks for itself, much higher positions go to singers who use autotune and who have ridiculous voices, so….no comment on the votes!!
However, the media exposure was very strong and Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio really had a lot of fun as well as work.

Ich halte überhaupt nichts von Musikwettbewerben. Musik ist nicht messbar, wie z.B. beim Sport, in der Mathematik usw. Musik lebt von Emotionen , Eindrücken und Interpretationen und subjektiven Gefühlen. Ich glaube auch nicht, dass in der Jury ausgebildete Musiker saßen, die alle die anspruchsvolle und niveauvolle Musik von den 3 Jungs gut beurteilen können. Deshalb wundert mich das Abschneiden von Clara und Il Volo nicht. In Deutschland gibt es auch etliche Musikwettbewerbe mit sehr fragwürdigen Ergebnissen… Aber die 3 werden es verschmerzen.

Was mich begeistert, mögen andere möglicherweise nicht. Grundsätzlich kann nur die Genauigkeit beurteilt werden, wie ein Lied gesungen wird, ob die Tonhöhe stimmt oder nicht usw.

What excites me may be disliked by others. Basically all that can be judged is the accuracy of how a song is sung, whether they are on pitch or not, etc.

In letzter Zeit hat Sanremo an Glaubwürdigkeit verloren, weil sich die Jurys aus Journalisten der Presse, Musikkritikern, dem Radio und dann noch aus der Publikumsjury mit Televoting zusammensetzen. Abgesehen vom Televoting werden leider auch die anderen Jurys vom aktuellen Musikgeschmack und den Plattenfirmen beeinflusst, weshalb die Stimmen auf diese Weise übermittelt werden und diejenigen, die wirklich talentiert sind und hart arbeiten, keinen Respekt erfahren.
Allerdings muss Il Volo niemandem etwas beweisen, denn ihr Talent ist unbestreitbar, auch wenn italienische Kritiker, Radiosender und italienische Journalisten sicherlich nicht ehrlich abstimmen.

Lately Sanremo has lost its credibility because the juries are composed of journalists from the press, music critics, the radio, and then the popular jury with televoting. Unfortunately, apart from televoting, the other juries are influenced by the musical tastes of the moment and by the record companies, therefore the votes are conveyed in this way and there is no respect for those who have real talent and work hard. However, Il Volo does not have to prove anything to anyone, because their talent is undeniable even if the Italian critics, radio and Italian journalists certainly do not vote honestly.
Beautiful article as usual. I can see why the guys go to SanRemo with all the publicity they get there, no matter what they do there they are appreciated by the fans. Thought the duet was fantastic and like everyone else, thought they should have placed higher in the standings. All Excited as less than a month will be watching them live and hopefully Pat will will definitely meet there. Thanks again guys for another great job.

Absolutely true Mark, Ignazio has put on a few kilos and by his admission he easily regains weight, so he must be careful not to overdo it. This certainly denotes that he is more serene (even happy) now that he has a stable family and sentimental situation. He also said he follows an alternate day diet.

Greetings to all of you and thanks again to Pat and Daniele for the report from Sanremo 🙂
This time I saw the contestants very sporadically. The main ones that interested me were Clara and Il Volo. Sound of Silence is one of my favorite songs. I’ve heard it in countless versions. Personally, I prefer the performance by Pentatonix and Il Volo. Well, the guys are slightly ahead, but that’s clearly a matter of the heart :-). The concept and performance of the song with Clara was also beautiful and very elegant! At the end, one feeling prevailed for me: the guys had fun! It was evident in their interactions, movements, facial expressions. Clara had a bit more difficulty because she was competing, but the guys were a great support to her. I guess she invited them as a thank you for her participation in Verona. I’m glad to see that they support each other like this. Il Volo didn’t have to compete, it was enough that they were seen. And people (I’m intentionally leaving out the jury and some of the press) had the opportunity to compare their beautiful voices with the others.
And speaking of autotune… After Sanremo 2024, Paul Jordan (one of the more respectable journalists) wrote on X: “Everyone complains that we use too much autotune. But then it’s not good when Let only uses his voice. Make arrangements.” I think that says it all…
I was looking forward to finally seeing Il Volo in concert in Italy this year, in some beautiful outdoor venues. Unfortunately, the guys only have Mantova planned. And May is the only month I can’t go. So maybe it will work out next year, but I plan to go to Italy at least for a short vacation.
In any case, I won’t miss the experience of their live concerts! I’ve already lured my friends to a concert in Vienna (I’ve had tickets since October) and Prague, which is clear just like last year. And instead of Italy, I’m flying with my daughter to Fuengirola :-). I’m really looking forward to their Spanish version of the concert, on the beach by the sea, at sunset… I hope they include one of their songs from the album Ámamé. I don’t speak Spanish, but my daughter will translate again :-).
While reading the interviews, I thought about one thing. The guys were asked what they must have in their suitcase. And Ignazio’s answer was: “electronic material, computers for recording and creating music.” I just wonder if we’ll ever hear one of his songs performed by Il Volo? He mentions here and there that he composes. Because I only know of two songs he wrote for the contestants in Sicily (but that was a long time ago), Hablando de Ti, Mákari and then the most beautiful one he sang with his Michelle 🙂 Or maybe it wouldn’t have to be Il Volo, it could just be one of them as part of his personal presentation at Tutti per uno in Mantova? Do you know if they ever discussed this possibility in an interview?

Thank you for a wonderful post of Clara and Il Volo performing together at Sanremo. Loved all of the posts, pictures and videos of them . I don’t know how many times I’ve watched their performance but also Clara’s solo performance . I love when they were off stage and she was singing and Il volo was swaying back and forth. Iva, you have listed many things that I completely agree with, everything you wrote about Sanremo is true, certainly Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio had a lot of fun and this makes me happy, they were appreciated by the public (not just by their fans) and this also flatters me, I draw a veil of pity on certain critics and journalists, but this type of behavior is now well known.
I agree about too much autotune, it should only be used for some effect, not to sound in tune if a singer is out of tune.
As for Ignazio’s compositions, in an interview he said that his songs are not suitable for Il Volo, but I am sure that we will soon hear one of his songs sung by them.
I don’t think they will sing any songs from Amame, unfortunately here in Italy it is not even possible to listen to them.

We all know that Igna has been composing and writing lyrics for a long time. I just wanted to say that it’s a shame that we have heard so few of his songs so far…
And as for Ámamé, I know that they won’t be playing it in Italy. But as they say, they make the setlist according to the country they are performing in. And since Fuengirola is in Spain, I hope that I could hear something from this album there. Or even some in Spanish 🙂 Latin America is too far away for me.
