What happened during the Easter holidays?
A lot happened, but as usual, let’s summarize on the timeline.
On April 15 Il Volo, or rather Piero and Ignazio, were interviewed by Radio Bruno.
Here is their arrival at Radio Bruno.
It’s a nice interview to promote the concerts in Mantua.
There is the possibility of activating subtitles so I won’t do translation..
I wrote that I didn’t translate, since it was an interview very similar to the one already done for Radio 102.5, but towards the end Ignazio spoke about the wait for little Bianca and I want to translate this moment because it is absolutely sweet!
IGNAZIO= I’m pregnant too, because everyone says that when your wife is expecting a baby, the father also gets fat.
DONNA= Do you sing her some songs about her belly?
IGNAZIO= I’ll tell you something I haven’t said yet.
Last night, we were in bed and in the evening I always kiss her goodnight and so I started singing to her (and he starts a sweet song). I finish singing and I put my ear on her belly and “pum” a kick, I was so emotional, it was crazy, I still get emotional now!! ❤️
We also received a nice photo of Il Volo at the Donatello Restaurant in Bologna.
Easter time is coming and Gianluca sends us photos with his friends and Ignazio with Michelle, but Piero…..not received!!
Despite there being several rainy days, the spring weather is making itself felt, everything is in bloom.
The commercials for the Mantua concerts are starting to run on television.
Unfortunately, the day after Easter, here on “Lunedì di Pasquetta” (Easter Monday), was overshadowed by the terrible news of the death of our beloved Pope Francis.
Just the day before, he had given the Urbi et Orbi blessing from the central balcony of St. Peter’s and had taken a ride in the papal car in the square to greet the faithful.
Although had been hospitalized for a long time, he seemed to be recovering well and no one expected such bad news. We were all shocked. 😭🙏
We remember the beautiful moments spent by Il Volo with Pope Francis, in the Vatican and in Panama at the Youth Day.
Rest in peace Pope Francis, you were a great Pope. 🙏🙏
April 25th marks 16 years since Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca were first brought together to sing, that’s right, it’s already been 16 years of Il Volo!!

After the tour in America, the trio returns to Italy for the third edition of “Tutti per Uno – Viaggio nel Tempo”, the only Italian dates set for May 8, 10 and 11.
After the American tour, Il Volo returns to Italy for the third edition of “Tutti per Uno – Viaggio nel Tempo”, the only Italian dates set for May 8, 10 and 11. After the success of the first two editions, broadcast on Canale 5 and which achieved significant ratings, the show moves for the first time to Palazzo Te in Mantua. Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble will be accompanied by numerous guests. After “Tutti Per Uno – Viaggio Nel Tempo”, Il Volo will continue with a new tour that will touch the main European capitals and Latin America, starting in June and throughout 2025.
Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble spoke about themselves on Malcom Pagani’s podcast “Dicono di te”, not sparing any sincerity. “Do we want to distance ourselves from each other? – says Piero – The truth? Very often. There are mornings when after a performance, when I wake up, I furtively approach the breakfast counter, savoring the solitude to read the newspapers in peace and I see Ignazio and Gianluca arrive to keep me company. Am I happy? No, I’m not. I’ve never told them: I do it now. There are times when I can’t stand them (laughs, ed.)”.
And Ignazio adds: “There was a time when I was often alone on tour. Piero and Gianluca would go to dinner together and I would stay on my own. It was a sign of discomfort and at the umpteenth joke, at the umpteenth ‘you’re never with us’ I said what I was thinking: ‘I’m never there because I’m not well. I’m never there because in the end let’s say we know each other, but maybe we don’t know each other enough and I can’t pretend nothing is happening and act as if nothing is happening in a place where I feel judged and not understood’. From that day on, our relationship changed and we started to say things to each other’s faces. It was an important moment: today we tell each other everything we think and our relationship has made great progress.
“Ours is an arranged marriage – concludes Gianluca – and only afterwards did we truly fall in love. Being together for so long has shaped us character-wise and emotionally: we have lived the same experiences on stage (…) The experiences have bound us together”.
Is disagreeing a form of wealth? Ignazio says: “It is our strength. We are not a group but three people with their individuality, we find ourselves working together. If we do not always agree with each other it is fine also because doubt makes me feel alive. Life is not black or white it is made of nuances, colors, diversity”.
Piero adds: “You could have said it with fewer words: It would have been more honest if you had simply said: ‘I never agree with you’ (smiles, ed.)
And finally Gianluca: “It certainly is, we really discuss everything but they are constructive discussions that never give up self-criticism. We are the most severe judges of ourselves”.
But today, April 29th, there is one last wonderful piece of news and it is Ignazio himself who gives it to us, while walking hand in hand with Michelle!! 🥰❤️❤️
IGNAZIO = So, the other day we made a post saying that we are “expecting”, and that it was a girl, but then, we had the morphology scan, and in the morphology scan it came out that it is a boy!
MICHELLE = It’s a boy!
IGNAZIO = He has a little willy! And his name will be….
MICHELLE = Gabriele! ❤️
IGNAZIO = Gabriele! ❤️ We wanted to tell you!! Ciao.
MICHELLE = Ciao!
And so, it will be a boy: Gabriele, how exciting!! 💙
The beautiful Michelle is radiant in her pregnancy.
Still nothing reveals her expectation, but we all know that the morphological scan is done between the fourth and fifth month of pregnancy.
Michelle wears the “angel caller” pendant which, it is said, emanates a delicate sound that, according to belief, can calm the baby in the womb and ensure serenity to the future mother. 😍
And so, we have also reached the end of April.
Il Volo is preparing for the concerts in Mantua, but first, on May 3rd there will be an engagement in Mexico.
The rest is over, soon we start again.

Querida Luz, tienes que pensar como piensa la prensa italiana, al principio los tres chicos de Il Volo fueron criticados porque eran demasiado perfectos, tenían una imagen de buenos chicos que siempre se llevan bien y que respetan a sus familias…….pero a la prensa italiana esto no le gustó mucho, tuvieron que encontrar algunos lados oscuros. Por su parte, Piero, Ignazio y Gianluca siempre han afirmado ser “como hermanos” pero incluso los hermanos discuten, tienen sus desacuerdos, pero eso no significa que se quieran menos. El problema surgió cuando uno de ellos admitió que también discuten y tienen desacuerdos… la prensa sólo estaba esperando esto para culparlos por no llevarse bien y hacer parecer que su relación era una trampa.
Para nosotros los fans que los conocemos bien está claro que los tres se quieren mucho y se tienen un gran respeto, por lo que sus palabras no nos preocupan, pero la prensa está “haciendo un día de campo” diciendo que los tres siempre están discutiendo. ¡Nada podría estar más lejos de la verdad!
Desgraciadamente tenemos que vivir con ello, ciertos comentarios duelen y duele que ciertas frases, quizás dichas por los tres de forma irónica, muchas veces sean malinterpretadas. Paciencia, sabemos bien cómo son realmente Piero, Ignazio y Gianluca.
Dear Luz, you have to think about how the Italian press thinks, at the beginning the three boys from Il Volo were criticized because they were too perfect, they had an image of good boys who always get along and respect their families…….but the Italian press didn’t like this very much, they had to find some dark sides. I was a bit surprised about the article in Il Fatto quotidiano because it’s based on the podcast interview Dicono di te that was published a year ago. I had it saved on youtube but hadn’t listened to it… but now when at least a part of it was written – which is easier to understand – I listened to the podcast and it was very very interesting. It’s an hour long!
(I have to say I loooove listening to Gianluca but he speaks in such an abstract way and connects such different ideas together that it’s a difficult task to understand him 😉 Ignazio didn’t joke much in this interview and it was nice to get to know his opinions, too.)

J’ai dit plus tôt que peut-être Il Volo n’est pas pleinement conscient de la bonne compagnie que leurs voix peuvent apporter aux personnes seules………et pas seulement leurs voix, mais aussi leur vie, leur façon d’être, leurs familles, c’est tout un ensemble agréable et poli que les gens aiment vraiment et qui les fait les apprécier de plus en plus.

Times are certainly changing- back when I was pregnant you just waited until the birth to find out the babies gender! Certainly the advances in medicine protect the baby and mother , however the element of surprise is gone! Hopefully Ignacio will be around for the birth I can’t imagine him missing it!

You’re welcome, Sheila! 😊 I only had one sonogram back in 1984 when I was pregnant. They didn’t do any more after the initial one, but I KNEW I was having a boy! Weird, isn’t it? I think Piero tends to keep a low profile about his personal life.
Sheila, even when I had my two children I didn’t know their sex. Only with the second one did I do one ultrasound, but he was from behind and didn’t let us see the sex, in any case I didn’t want to know. Everyone said it was another girl, instead it was a boy.
Knowing Ignazio I think he will do everything to be present at the birth.
As for Piero there is no news, in fact I would say there is “press silence”.

Thank you Daniela and Pat. I’ve been trying to remember from your early postings what their expectations were. I think I know that they thought when they finished school they would like to be singers. Then they were lifted up in a helicopter-like thing by their new manager and the producers and flung in among the very famous.
But now we have people in our group learning Italian. One woman flew from Vancouver to Eastern Canada to see them.
They are helping the tourism industry in Italy. Selling out large venues night after night. What must that be like? I’m m not comparing them to the Beatles but I remember one of the Beatles saying they were grateful to have each other and couldn’t imagine what it was like for Elvis.
They are such a gift to so many people.

Thank Heavens I checked out the station before changing to another!!! 😊😊😊 Brought back memories of my 2012 trip to Sicily and the Valley of the Temples. Such a glorious country, with such scenery (including Mt. Etna).

Mich hat das Ableben von Papst Franciscus auch sehr betroffen gemacht. Er war ein großes Vorbild an gelebter Menschlichkeit und Bescheidenheit. Für seine Beisetzung hätte ich mir die 3 Il Volos mit dem Lied “Ave Maria, mater misericordiae” gewünscht. Das wäre meiner Ansicht sehr passend gewesen, um nicht nur die langen (langweiligen) Psalmen zu hören. Das hätte Franciscus sicher auch gefallen…
Ich freue mich schon auf den Auftritt in Mantua und hoffe, dass gute Aufzeichnungen auf Youtube zu hören sind.
Noch etwas: auf das Geschlecht eines Babys kommt es nicht so an, Hauptsache, es ist geund. Das wünsche ich den beiden Eltern.

Im Juni 2022 sangen die Jungs beim Festival der Familie in Rom „Ave Maria, Mater Misericordiae“ für Papst Franziskus. Es war wunderschön! Eines meiner Lieblingslieder, das sie gesungen haben…..sehr kraftvoll! Er konnte es also von IL VOLO singen hören, aber es wäre auch schön gewesen, wenn sie es bei seiner Beerdigung noch einmal hätten singen können.

In June 2022 the guys did sing “Ave Maria, Mater Misericordiae” for Pope Francis at the Festival of the Family in Rome. It was beautiful! One of my favorite songs that they have sung…..very powerful! So he did get to hear IL VOLO sing it but also it would have been nice if they could have sung it again at his funeral.

Dear Margit, we fans would have liked to hear Il Volo sing at the funeral of the dear Pope, but unfortunately there are ceremonies that must be observed and let’s remember that we are not on Italian soil but in the Vatican and therefore it was obvious that the choice was absolutely traditional. The Pope had strongly wanted Il Volo at the Youth Day in Panama, moreover in an interview he had said that he listened to Il Volo.

Another great post. Thank you Pat and Daniela. I was at the Niagara Falls sound checks for both concerts. Piero and Gianluca both came down from the stage and greeted all of us. I think they were the only concerts that they did that. Igna left early but did say hello and goodbye from the stage. Piero and GG stayed for quite a while and spoke to each and everyone of us. Piero told everyone about the lucky charm I give him every time I see him. He has come to expect it from me. I think I have done it at least 45 times. He watches for me at the sound checks and will beckon to me to bring it to him. He is such a sweet, thoughtful young man. Now we will wait for the next American/Canadian tour. At age 86 I hope it won’t be too long of a wait! What a blessing for the guys and their families to have met the Pope and to have sung for him.

Thanks Daniela for another summary of what happened to the boys in April. I not only read the interviews, but also watched the videos (yes, Igna is absolutely adorable when he melts into the baby’s reaction in his belly). And that it’s a boy and not a girl? Well, as Ignazio suggested, it’s a joke from a daddy 🙂
I have to admit that I liked the interview the most, translated from IL FATTO QUOTIDIANO. It wasn’t long, but it beautifully showed how amazing the relationship between the boys is. Especially now that they are adults. They tell each other the truth about what they don’t like about each other. They can argue, disagree, but thanks to that, they can find the right solution together. They can make fun of each other in public and not get offended. And on the other hand, they can appreciate and support each other. Gianluca really beautifully and simply expressed the development of their relationship: the marriage was arranged, only later did we fall in love. So now I can only hope that in this “marriage” they will celebrate their diamond wedding together!
I would also like to mention the fact that they put their individuality to the fore in interviews and mention their different opinions. After all, it’s true and the guys are honest about it! It could be argued whether someone should moderate their discussions in this case or not (in my opinion, definitely not). I personally think that this is the intention of the guys. If you look back, there have been quite a few strange articles and videos on YouTube recently, where they discussed the differences between the guys, reported problems in the group or even the breakup of Il Volo. All based on some excerpts from interviews or published videos from the media – see the “problems” between Piero and Gian on the radio in February 2024. One of the reasons why we love them so much is that they are themselves under all circumstances. In one interview, they admitted that they stop perceiving the cameras around them and behave as is natural for them. In no “family” are all siblings the same, they have different characters, characteristics, expressions. One moment they can argue and the next they love each other. Why should they pretend that everything is perfect and that they agree on everything?
I can only assume that by repeating statements about individuality and disagreement, the guys are trying to send a message to the world: yes, we are all different, we don’t always have to agree on everything, but don’t worry, that’s completely normal. This doesn’t mean that we want to go our own way and that Il Volo is in danger of breaking up. We can agree, cooperate and also give each other space for individual expression. And let’s not forget what Ignazio said: the atom is divisible, we are not.

I completely agree with you Iva, the boys are men now and can be sincere in interviews without anyone feeling offended, they know each other perfectly now and none of the three would say bad words towards the other.
Their points of view are also different and their way of singing is different, but then they always manage to have a good vision of the whole and their voices are unique in the harmonizations.
Thanks so much again Daniela and Pat for keeping us updated on all the latest “Il Volo” that being interviews or personal stuff. So much appreciated. And those guys are constantly delivering – so much happening in spite a brief break in the concerts.
I do always enjoy the translations of the interviews. Not that the latest ones here reveals much new – but they confirm their recent wish of focusing on their differences in all aspects of life and in spite of same how well they deal with it by means of mutual respect and accept bringing a positive synergy effect about rather than being a disadvantage.
I cannot stop smiling when seeing/hearing Ignazio explain that little expected Bianca has overnight turned into little Gabrielle 😋❤️ – so I guess they need to re-paint the baby’s room in blue now. No matter whether girl or boy they both look so happy and excited, and I send them all my best wishes and warm thoughts. They may, however, be surprised by the giant change in the daily life such a new little family member brings about and hopefully they will receive loving support from family and friends. I don’t think it is the easiest thing to be perfect parents being world famous people with the need of living separated for long periods… but I know they will do their utmost. Assuming that Michelle is 4-5 months pregnant one may also fear that Ignazio may miss out of the birth and the first difficult months having the South American Tour coming up the same time… Well, I worry too much – of course they have a good plan.
Oh my I didn’t realize that the announced performance on May the 3rd is to take place in Mexico!!! I took for granted it was an Italian one. I really don’t know how the guys cope with these long stretches in the air and not the least the following jet lags.. and I fear they may not be on top of their game already on May the 8th in Mantua. They are not that young any longer and even given flatbed business class seats it must really be strenuous for the body and mind – and I cannot refrain from thinking whether flying abroad for a single concert is worth the while. However I wish them a safe trip and a great performance over there.
Meanwhile I am getting truly anxious knowing that in some 9 days I’ll be seated at beautiful Palazzo Te in Mantua listening to the guys singing and meeting up with Daniela – jihaa.

Kirsten since you brought up what I was thinking I’ll add my two cents worth! Flying to Mexico for a one day concert from Italy seems extremely unpractical to me. As the world is trying to deal with global warming (and I am the first person to say I don’t understand how it works); perhaps a one show concert could be done via technology and not physical flights.
To add my personal humorous personality, if they were coming to Vancouver, I’d endorse this trip 1000 %!

So you didn’t realize that on May 3rd Il Volo would be in concert in Mexico, I really don’t know how they have this energy, but I think it’s all part of the promotion of South America. In these days after Easter Il Volo has been rehearsing (indoors) for Mantua and when they return they will have just enough time to do the outdoor rehearsals.
In addition to their songs there will certainly be many other songs to perform with the various guests and certainly some beautiful pearls of new performance. I can’t wait, but for now the important thing is to hope for good weather and chase away the rain!!
There will also be many meetings with various friends, the Il Volo concert is also the occasion for a great gathering of fans.

I love these guys and have been following them on YouTube since they first came to America. I know everything about them. They are good boys from good families and now they
are great men. They are so sweet; God love and bless them and protect them always and keep them close to Him. I am so happy that Ignazio found his soul mate and he is soon to be a father. Having a child us a gift from God. Love to Michelle who has such a sweet, serene smile. I can’t wait to see Pierro and Gianluca marry and have a family.
