Marco died in September after a  soccer practice due to a heart malformation at the age of nine, prompting an investigation into the physician that medically cleared him for activity.  More than two thousand people attended his funeral.  It was proclaimed a day of mourning, the Pineto  did not play, and the Feast of St. Hilary was suspended.

As previously mentioned by Lydka,  the third edition of the Notte Bianca dello Sport and Sport Paralympic opened on July 23 and was attended not only by Gianluca, but by civil and military authorities as well.
