INCREDIBLE EVENING TO FORGET by Daniela

I’m disappointed.
I can say that I expected it and I also warned you about the negativity of the Press Office and the Radio, but that this reaching such a low point, I didn’t want to believe it. 🤬
Last night at the Festival, quality was not rewarded, not even the performance, much less the voices, the professionalism. But are we joking????
Even if we had voted from all over the planet, nothing would have changed, Il Volo is not even in the top 5 after having given an incredible performance together with Stef Burns, and for this they have to thank the journalists in the press room who have always had an aversion towards them and the Italian radio stations that NEVER pass them on.🤬
I’m still so angry that as I write to you I’m shaking with nervousness. 🤬
But what are we talking about?
For all those who haven’t seen it yet, here is the video of the wonderful performance of Il Volo and Stef Burns presenting WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER by Queen!!

Stratospheric, immense. ❤️❤️❤️
My goodness, what a performance!!!!
Chills on the skin.
Let me start by saying that I was a QUEEN fan and here with IL VOLO, they were worthily represented. A very difficult song that requires an uncommon vocality.
But have you noticed how Gianluca modulates his voice??? Fantastic!
And Piero blended perfectly into this harmony, his voice was very recognizable.
What about Ignazio, the high notes are his forte and once again he proved it to everyone.
Stef Burns did his part, including some great rock guitar playing. 🎸
In the end a perfect fusion of sound singing harmony.
This performance absolutely deserved first place, especially considering the other performances.
But here is the ranking of the top 5!
What amazes me is the absolutely undeserved first place. 🤬
I have nothing against the Neapolitan song, but the Sanremo regulation has always prohibited singing in regional dialects, this year the regulation was modified to allow the Neapolitan song to participate. I knew he would have great support from the people, but here the support of journalists and radio stations was also needed, otherwise it is not possible that he could have reached this point.
I agree on second place, Angelina Mango (a young and good emerging singer) and also on third place with Annalisa (remember her duet with Gianluca), and also on fifth place, but I also absolutely disagree on fourth place, a ‘really unworthy’ performance!!
There were many boos when the first position was announced, also because it is not just a ranking, there is a winner who gets a trophy, the trophy for the best performance of the duets’ evening.
The winner sang again and was then rewarded, but there were many boos and people left the theater.
But this is not the point, the public’s disappointment is due but it’s time for the press room to stop voting and in any case the radio jury (placed this year) is another negative component.
This Festival is a great farce., I am truly dismayed.
There is nothing to do! 🤬
Let’s at least enjoy this beautiful roundup of photos from the evening.
It goes without saying that there is a lot of bitterness in the mouth, these prejudices from the press room will never end and the radios will never play their songs, nothing has changed.
For us they are the winners and anyone with good taste and ears to hear cannot say otherwise.
And tonight we start again, it’s the final evening. Of course, at this point, I don’t think Il Volo can rank in the top 5.
But they need all our support.
The evening will open with listening to the 30 competing songs. Il Volo competes with the number 5, so it is the fifth this evening, it will be around 10:00 in the evening (Italian time) in the end only the home jury will vote, therefore the televoting and therefore we must let Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca hear that there has always been their appreciation from home. It won’t help them climb the rankings, but it will help their pride, because they know they did an excellent job.
Then the general ranking of the 4 evenings will be drawn up and only the top 5 will continue the race.

Piero, GIanluca Ignazio, you are already our winners. ❤️❤️❤️……..everything else is boring!!!!

Thank you Marika, thank you Hungary.
They deserved first place at least that evening, also because it was truly deserved.

  2. I bet Ignazio thought about all those rigged competitions he used to sing in. My heart hurts for them!😪♥️

Maria de Fatima, they themselves knew that it was an impossible task, but sometimes one believes that people (journalists and radio) are consistent with the work they do, but unfortunately this is not the case.

  4. I really hope our guys aren’t to disappointed they sounded great as usual.👏❤️🥇🎤❤️

    1. Judith, our guys are not immune to disappointments, but they certainly have good armor and certainly a lot of good education that doesn’t make their disappointment understandable.

  5. Dany they will be in the first 5 You’ll see ….see you tomorrow in this page again!!! Big hugs….

    1. Alessandra, alla fine sono ottavi, sinceramente dopo l’andamento delle serate credevo peggio. Abbracci a te!

Alessandra, in the end they are eighth, honestly after the progress of the evenings I thought it would be worse. Hugs to you!

      1. I can still understand that in this kind of compétition were there is now a very young audience, Capolavoro it was not thé taste of many … that I can still be indulgent and understand…
What I dislike and What Made me really mad is thé lack of judgmét critics élégance and trutfulness in à performance like thé one that Thé Guys did in thé cover evening singing thé Queen …….that was beyond any expectation …Fantastic …powerfully and perfectly sang and arranged they studied all détails even thé look and they were Number one for me that night! I am italian proud and fan of them we should not worry they know what they expect from Italy 🇮🇹 they are not probably loved by every single person but they are appreciate and understood by intelligent and professional people and very well know in the profession….I still think that they are probably more disappointed for the result on the cover evening that the one of the competitors itself! Very good evening to all of you and VIVA IL VOLO SEMPRE🌸

      2. I love the song! I can’t seem to get it out of my mind! Find myself humming the intro❤️. Trying to decide if I should learn Italian but think English would be quicker!
I do wonder the average of us who respond in these posts? My guess there aren’t many of under 50! I believe we are all preaching to the converted! We need to get younger people involved! Personally my body is old but my mind is still young 😂 my wish they never get to meet!😂😂😂

      3. I agree Alessandra, I think the big disappointment was the cover night, they should have been first!!

  6. Goosebumps! I had goosebumps. I am a died-in-the-wool Queen fan. Freddie Mercury would be so proud of “our” boys. The prejudice of the journalists and the radio people are maddening, but we know and Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero know we love them and they also know the rest of the world loves them. They don’t need a trophy to know they are good. And you are so right, the rest was boring, and I didn’t bother to follow any of them. Why! Il Volo is the best of the best, and I intend to tell them somehow.

    1. Karen, I too was and am a Queen fan and therefore we must recognize that the song was performed very well.
Read the next post, there will be something Queen related that you will like.
Goosebumps for me too that evening!

  7. I’m sorry to say this, but I believed all along it was wrong for them to enter this competition. They do not need this as they are successful in their own right, and we loved them for it. Whether or not they are trying to appeal to a younger audience, they still have us “”mature” fans 🙂

    1. I agree with you. Some of their videos show lots of young women and men in the audience. They don’t have to worry about appealing to a specific crowd. We “mature” fans have enough love to keep them busy for a long, long time.

      1. Karen they expressly said that they don’t think of being followed by the very young, but of trying to be followed by people of their age and up.

    2. Kate, I think I was clear, they didn’t think they would win, they knew very well that they weren’t considered by journalists and radio, but just the fact of being in Sanremo gave them great visibility here in Italy, I’m not talking nonsense if I tell you that all the radio stations, all the journalists did an interview with them and then the report cards for the evenings, the report cards for the clothes, they did it to stir up interest in the launch of the new CD. In the next post I will delve deeper into this reason.

    1. Oma, how much truth. This is why we must respect the tastes of our very young children, but also accustom them to being objective about quality. If I go dancing, I can appreciate the “catchphrases” but if I have to judge a singing competition, there are other things to evaluate.

  8. They are the best always!! Love them, and they merit it! They are the first among the people who knows what is beuty and talent.

      1. Sorry Daniela but I had to respond. Here in the US the “journalists” so called don’t know how to ask tough questions to those they prefer and so we don’t get real information from them instead we get opinions not reports of what they are reporting. It sounds to me that in the case of being judges at Sanremo is a bridge too far for their talent. I understand why the guys wanted to do Sanremo again. However, the prejudice won even if “adjustments” had to be made to make it happen. Your press is as bad as ours. As I know the truth in a report I know the truth about Sanremo. They have some ulterior motive when it comes to Il Volo. It’s their loss it’s our gain. As an American I have introduced them to Il Volo and although one of our older residents don’t understand how I listen when I don’t understand what they are saying I reply that the music, and their voices hit me in my solar plexus and transcends language…that’s how important music is to me. In my youth I listened to folk music, the music of the coffee houses. I had a special interest in Irish folk music because I lived near Tommy Makem and his family and he was often brought in to our studio for early PBS style shows. When I moved to South Texas I was exposed to real country music not the make believe rock country. As the 80’s came really great rock bands appeared; Genesis, U2, Bob Seger, Eagles well you understand. The 90’s provided me with a peek at my childhood music. The stuff we listened to at my parents request. Opera! Madama Butterfly, The beautiful Paliacci (I know that’s not spelled right I apologize) those two were often on our huge record player that we had to wind up! 😁 During the 90’s I saw Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Le Miz, and the amazing Blue Man Group! I took my granddaughter and grandson to Boston to see Sarah Brightman with her guest Josh Groban. I’ve lived a life filled with great memories of even greater music. I don’t say that Il Volo is the best I’ve ever seen, but they are way up there in the rare air of greatness. It’s not just one thing that sets them apart it’s the whole picture with them. They are handsome, they are individually independent musicians. Some great acts are one trick poneys. Not so Il Volo. Being able to know they are strong together doesn’t make them afraid to show themselves as their individual strengths. Do you know how rare that is? A one trick pony shines bright then fades. Il Volo will continue to have value to the industry and fandom which over time will grow to include all ages. In part they already enjoy that status. They are humble! Not full of themselves. Rare so rare. Don’t reply to this I trust you’ll read it. Yes I still love Il Divo, but haven’t been able to wrap my head around the loss of Carlos Marin. They just put out a new CD the first since his passing and it’s good, in fact it’s very good. A more balanced vocal since Stephen’s voice is so dominant otherwise.
Oh and I forgot to say how Capalovoro is running nonstop in my head. So between hearing it fo the first time Thursday to playing in my head is an indication that although different in so many ways to Grande Amore, it’s going to get US airplay on the radio and MTV music videos. I’m all in with these artists. I believe in them. They don’t need Sanremo which to me means they’re too good for the festival. Sanremo showed their mediocrity.

    1. Ruth, they are certainly our number one, but if they present at a festival it is right that they have their appreciation, then they can like it or not like it, but the quality cannot be denied.

  9. Well put, Daniela. A sad reality. They will always be number one in our lives! No competition will ever change that! ❤

    1. In fact Jane, they will always be number ONE in our hearts, there is no doubt!! A hug to all your family!

  10. I’m so sorry that our guys have again met with failure at Sanremo. Last night I stayed up very late listening to the songs of Sanremo. There were a couple that had a memorable chorus or a great melody, but trying to be fair nothing compared to the drama, melody, performance of Masterpiece and Il Volo. I’m beginning to become familiar with some of the Italian singers and honestly I loved Annalise’s song and her voice. Her duet with the guy’s still in my heart. She has a beautiful voice!
As videos of the festival begin to show up on YouTube and other platforms it’ll be clear to everyone what is clear to you and I hope the guys as well, that even if they didn’t get the trophy they will not suffer for it. When they do their concert tour over the next 18 months to sold out arenas around the world it’ll prove the faulty system at Sanremo.

    1. Muriel, will surely fill all theaters and arenas. The three concerts at the Verona Arena are already sold out. They deserve all this, because “quality is not water”.
Annalisa is very good, but the journalists never voted for her, she had to sing disco songs to be successful. Years ago she sang beautiful songs that highlighted her voice and no one talked about her.

  11. I want to say one thing: Adam Lambert, Brian May and Roger Taylor had to have given permission for Il Volo to sing a Queen song. Wouldn’t it have been nice if they would have been on the stage with the guys. Alas, I believe Queen is on tour.

    1. You are right. Not everyone can sing Queen. I haven’t yet heard the newest Queen song from the guys, but I will. I’m a big Queen fan and I love Ignazio’s version of Somebody to Love. His voice challenges Freddie’s. Had he still been alive Freddie would’ve been an Il Volo fan because he was a huge Monseratte fan even doing an album with her in his last year. I can’t believe it’s thirty years since his music died. It’s in good hands if it’s done by our guys!🙏🏻

      1. Oh, yes, you are right. I love Ignazio’s version of Somebody to Love, and he does challenge Freddie. Yes, Freddie died too young, and he would love Il Volo, and I bet he would have wanted to sing with them.

      2. Muriel I really hope that in the next concerts there will be “Barcelona”, perhaps with Aida Garifullina, if you remember Ignazio at “Tutti per uno” he said to Aida, the next duet will be you and me.

Eliane, what you wrote is all true, but when you know you have worked hard and done a good job you also like it to be recognized by others. But that’s okay, their fans know it well.

  13. Wow what a disappointment for our guys. I was shocked at their reception by the audience. We know they are amazing and professional and truly the best vocalists I have ever heard. In my opinion, they should not compete in this. They are world wide stars and great performers. They just are not loved in Italy the same way we love them all over the world. They are still the best and the festival did not disprove that. We love Il Volo!!

    1. I agree Joan, they are stars from all over the world and great performers. I think you are also right in writing that Italy does not appreciate them as it should.

  14. Neither Sanremo songs I’ve heard so far match the magical Grand Amore❤️❤️❤️

Il Volo always does a great job in ALL of their performances but the songs themselves have to be WORTHY of their wonderful voices.

    1. Chicago Love isn’t easy, in fact it’s very difficult to find the right song, the impact of Grande Amore was unique, but I think the more you listen to Capolavoro, the more you like it. I hope to listen to one of their songs written by themselves soon.

  15. A prophet in their own land… equals Il Volo in Italy. They are much bigger. They have pushed the boundaries. And Italy has benefited. As have we. Thank you Il Volo.

    1. Hi Barbara (Seattle). I’m Sheila (Vancouver). Let’s hope and pray IlVolo will play either or better BOTH our cities! I am a massive supporter of IlVolo!

      1. Hey Sheila! Are u Vancouver Washington? I’m Vancouver Canada! I would also love it if they played Seattle Washington (not likely they would come to Vancouver BC)

      2. I am Vancouver BC !
Actually 1 block from the border! I will see them somewhere , likely 2025!,

    2. Very true, Barbara, no one is a prophet in their homeland, not even Il Volo. The important thing is that their quality is recognized everywhere.

  16. So why is the press and Radio so not in there corner. They should be so very proud of their accomplishments and how they have grown as artists. So not fsr

    1. I don’t understand it either. Il Volo has raised awareness of Italian music to the world. The journalists and radio people should be proud of them. I think the Italian people are, and I know the rest of the world loves them. They don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

    2. Bonnie, I’ve been saying it for a long time, the press room doesn’t have to vote, but because they don’t know how to be objective and the radios ……….il Volo never plays on the radio, so what are we talking about??? ?

  17. Loved your title today, Daniela!!
My youngest sister–a lot younger than me– who likes our guys, but isn’t really a follower (yet), but is a Queen fan said just what you said. “They made Freddy proud. Fantastic! Chills!”

    1. I truly believe Judi, Freddie would have loved their version and he has always been rock but with an eye to opera.

  18. You are absolutely right, but they know and we know how wonderful they are. I almost wish that they don’t do this again – it is so disrespectful to them.

  19. I probably won’t watch this video again for while, as it’s too beautiful and passionate and haunting to be dismissed of their presence and extraordinary talent in this thing called San Remo. I too and sad and disappointed.

    1. Mark, I watched it a thousand times and every time I was angry at their lack of podium, they undoubtedly deserved first place!

  20. I do not understand why the radio and news is so anti Il Volo. It doesn’t make sense to me. Their voices and talent is unquestionably the best.

    1. None of us understand it, Lynnece, but we have come to believe there is someone who orchestrated this hatred.

  21. In the long run it doesn’t matter. The detractors are the losers and it just means more seats available for the true fans.

  22. What an absolute FARCE .. we in Australia 🇦🇺 are all left feeling very flat & devastated .. what can one say … cheered up a little this morning when we saw our boys having such a good time .. we just wonder how they really feel 🥲🙏🏻🙏🏻

    1. Is it possible that we never know how they really feel because they are professionals?? They knew the deck was stacked against them but they challenged themselves to overcome the bias. As we Americans say, they can laugh about it…all the way to the bank!
When I think about IlVolo I think about something I read shortly after discovering them for myself. In the piece either Daniela or one of the other writers related a situation that turned crazy as they attended a Meet and Greet. As I recall the guys were very concerned that with the mishaps they were afraid their fans were somehow being cheated and Piero followed after a couple of fans asking if they got whatever it was they wanted. How rare is that? It rarely ever happens even after paying a lot of money to meet the star you wanted to see. You all are spoiled by (in a good way) these consummate personable, caring guys! I guess I’m coming to terms with the reality that I will probably never get to see Il Volo least of all meet them, so I console myself with being able to watch videos and read about the wonderful things they do. It’s what we still have even with the disappointment out of Sanremo. They knew the odds and they gambled. We now have a rethought trio with voices God gave them to entertain us. We know their uniqueness, we know how hard they tried. Sanremo sent them away…to where? To us, to the world to love. Sanremo lost, fans won. I still can’t spell the song title in Italian but I know for sure it’s a Masterpiece that left me breathless the first time I heard it.

      1. I think I replied to another of your comments. I am so with you in this. This morning in my mail was a newsletter about compassion. How, no matter whether we disagree or agree with someone, we need to remember to be compassionate. I am like you, I want to meet them, to talk to them, to encourage them on; however, I know that I will probably never get the chance. I would give anything to sit down with them and talk to them about our lives and their lives. (Wouldn’t we all.) If you don’t try, you cannot win; if you lose, you have won anyway, because you at least tried. We love them and they will know it, because we are going to shout it loud and clear through our comments on Instagram.

      2. I already wrote it in the comment to someone, Muriel, they are great professionals and even if their hearts cry inside they don’t show it, they have great armor but our task is to make them understand all our love.

    2. It’s true Trudy, it lifted my spirits a little to see how cheerful our boys were despite everything.
      Greetings to Australia.

  23. Daniela I hear and share your frustration and anger over the disrespect and overlooking our talented guys. I was able to listen to most of the contestants live and except for Il Volo and Analisa I thought they all started to sound alike and boring. I agree with others that they do not need this competition because they are already internationally loved stars and their career is so successful already. Perhaps they knew the deck was stacked against them by the press and radio, but it is a way to be heard at least by new people and to prepare the way for the new album coming out soon. No matter what happens here they know the world is full of loving fans. They will continue to sing to sold out audiences around the world and that hopefully makes them happy. As we say in the US they will have the last laugh, and they can laugh all the way to the bank. In the most recent videos they all seem happy and relaxed and celebrating Gian’s birthday. I hope they at least had fun presenting their music and mingling with so many other artists. They are truly a class act and are taking all this controversy like true gentlemen.

    1. Yes Janet, I am frustrated because I hoped that journalists and radio stations, after all these years of success and exemplary behavior of Il Volo, had changed course, but this is not the case.
They collect love and dedication from all over the world….. and in Italy only from their fans.

    2. I am also very disappointed for our guys I don’t know what the Italian press and radio stations have against our beloved ilvolo.
I don’t think they’re not winning San Remo is this hurtful as their own country not accepting them or the people that have so much to say about them
Aside from that talent and they’re caring and their personalities and their class they went in to this contest 200% knowing the car just act against them I applaud them for pushing the envelope and a coverage to stand up for themselves
There’s a saying in America “every knock is a boost”
Therefore for every knock that they’re getting the boost are tenfold
I have been following them for 15 years it always amazes me how they continue to get better and better and better truly a gift from God to all the world

      1. Yes Frances, I think it was very painful for them too, not because they didn’t win, but I think the pain comes from the confirmation that nothing has changed for them, it was no use being polite, working hard, getting back into the game, no the press is always an obstacle for them and then this year the radios have also added.

  24. The fix was in from the start. The boys never needed this event. I suppose the exposure helped but I would have skipped of managing them. Never again !

  25. Thanks so much! I totally agree, the press should not have a vote. Obviously, they are not trained to recognize musical talent.

  26. Il Volo’s treament this entire week was a shame. But the shame is not theirs it is the Italian Press and the blind disregard for talent by Radio.

I am sure the devotion of their fans will more than make up for any dissapointment they may feel. The boys know how much their fans adore them and in the months of tours aahead, Il Volo will continue to earn our respect and appeciation of their beautiful voices.

Bravissimo Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca for continuing to share your gifts with the world.

    1. Eileen, that’s right, not their shame, but the press and radio.
After the evening of the covers where Geolier came first, there was such a huge protest that last night at the final the vote of the press and radio went towards other singers, otherwise there would have been all hell in the theatre.

  27. Il Volo you are the best. One cannot win under these circomstances. Please do not feel hurt . You always give your best. Remember you are in A class of your own!! Stay true to the way you are. Please turn your back on Sanremo you really do not need this. You are by far better than this trearment. Leave this event behind you and never ever return. If your homeland treat you this bad remember the rest of the world can see you are gold and your stage is the world. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌹🌹🌹🌹❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💥❤️

    1. Gugi it’s true, no one can win in these circumstances, but demonstrating their ability to people can. Certainly these days they have been seen by people who don’t follow them at all.

  28. Thank you Daniela. I think we all agree with you. But it is so sad when a talent show does not reward talent. They are the best, wonderful and ours. Take care. Thank you again. We LOVE IL VOLO!!

  29. How terrible and sad that the juries remain rude and completely unprofessional. And the juries should be embarrassed at their behavior.
I do not make these comments lightly because I remain appalled!
Il VOLO has brought their music to a world-wide audience with top-notch reviews. They’re admired and loved everywhere they perform.
They have sell-out crowds and high ratings for every performance. Their music soothes our minds and our souls and leaves us yearning for more.
Each of us as loyal fan club members attend as many Il VOLO’s concerts as often as we can.
We NEVER tire of their music and yearn for more!

    1. Vicki, exactly, the jury must be the jury and therefore the parameters in a singing competition are also the intonation, the voice, the song and instead the voiceless singers, who speak and don’t sing, the summer catchphrases and whoever dares most in bad taste. No comment.

  30. I agree with you, Daniela, and all the other fans. I guess we’ve always known that Sanremo does not reward quality in voices or performances, but Karen B. said it so well ” they don’t need a trophy to know they are good”.
I’ve tried to look at this whole thing from another angle. The guys accomplished what they said they wanted – being seen and heard by a new/younger audience. This was good exposure, especially with their new album coming out soon after Sanremo. With Capolavoro and the Queen song, they have shown their versatility to a hometown audience that knows them for bel canto and pop-opera.
And Armani got to show off some recent styles on three very handsome men! So Il Volo is still coming out of this as winners! I’m so proud of them and their poise, professionalism, optimism, and perseverance, They truly are a Masterpiece!

    1. You really understood the meaning of their participation in Sanremo this year Maija.
We hope that this visibility has struck a chord with many people.

      1. But I forgot to mention that Il Volo chose Sanremo to celebrate their 15 years together, and what a party, celebrated with so many friends, but also strangers, who became their fans. That’s another win !

  31. thank you for the photos ,the boys sung their song beautifully ,as for them singing the Queen song that was also amazing Freddy would have been proud to hear them sing that song ,dont feel let down guys you were let down by the press before you started ,but remember the whole WORLD loves you keep singing ,regards

    1. Yes Pamela, the whole world loves them and Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca know it very well and if they have any doubts, we will clarify them with our full theaters at the concerts.

  32. Question for Daniella .. I read a comment on another board that there were some voting irregularies with the televote & people not being able to vote .. is that accurate? I also didn’t watch the final yesterday, but my niece said the audience was upset when the boys were announced in 8th place .. see, the audience & fans know the truth!

And now, we move forward & have so many exciting things to look forward to .. new album (with a surprise duet), concert tour & a possible new PBS special filming in June (not sure if that’s been confirmed. The video of the guys celebrating with Gian filled my heart. They don’t need another useless trophy. They’re full speed ahead! Amore a tutti ♥️

    1. Ich weiß auch, dass es Probleme beim televoting gab und trotzdem sind sie vom 11. auf den 8. Platz gestiegen. Gleich um drei Punkte. Das zeigt, dass die Zuschauer sie lieben.

    2. Yes Stacey, there were significant delays because televoting from home had a significant influx and crashed the system. I myself gave my 10 votes (the maximum possible) but I only had confirmation for 6. Many friends didn’t have any confirmation and the singers kept saying to vote. However, I must tell you that at this moment in which I am replying to you, I have received confirmation that my votes were successful.

For the rest of what you wrote, yes I agree, there will be many surprises for all of us fans from Il Volo.

  33. This is a nice place for all of us to be disappointed together 😞 but oh well if that’s the game… why the press is like this everywhere – either jealous? Or bought-off when they should be fair and objective? How can we trust?

It’s courageous of the boys to compete anyway, how difficult it is to participate in something knowing there are people who will be unfair to you, but showing up anyway. And they did! They did great! They looked great they sounded great. I guess in that sense they are showing the press something too. They are not scared. They are there to do a job and did it beautifully and tons of people love them even if the press does not.

I am sure the visibility will help promote them, hopefully change some minds too. And i enjoyed reading all the supportive comments and critiques everyone has shared here. So much love here for Il Volo ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Amy, the press has been tricked into doing this way back when they were kids. In fact it is impossible to think that the press was so bad towards them if not directed.
Today they were guests on TV and you will read something about the behavior of Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca.

  34. Thank God, all the grapes in Italy are not SOUR GRAPES, or the economy would hit bottom!

As far as the”press” is concerned, they must be jealous of such young men having such wonderful voices, unbelievable careers, fans, designers, and money to buy all the “trinkets” they want, including a Ferrari!!!

Go cry in a corner you useless paper pushers and leave our young men alone!! Your hatred of them does not hold a candle to all the LOVE their fans have for them, and also admiration for the kind of men they have become. Take this from a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who knows what she is talking about. Dol (Notice, no Hugs!!)

    1. In fact Dolores, these people should be excluded from the vote, and without appeal.
I hope that the new host of Sanremo establishes new rules next year, but I’m sure Il Volo won’t go there.

  35. Agree Daniela! Whatever the “juries” think of the guys, how do MUSIC people not acknowledge that Queen cover and Stef Burns?!?! The guys have fans singing Capolavoro with them in the streets of Sanremo, a huge tour and an album. Pooh to the juries! And the fans jumped them 3 points into the top 10, no one else had that big a change up. Pooh again. Il Volo IS a Capolavoro 🙂 <3

    1. But they know nothing Karen, I haven’t heard a single compliment from the journalists for that 10 performance they gave that evening.

  36. I had to sleep on last night’s devastating result in order to cool down and phrase myself in a proper way. And what can I say? Italy lost out great time by this tactical error and lacking respect and acknowledgement of our guys and hence of the obvious great opportunity of winning the upcoming Eurovision Songcontest – while IL VOLO are spared yet a possible humiliation at the latter being just as unfair and incompetent as this Sanremo circus!

Tuesday I could hardly contain myself waiting to finally hear “Capolavolo”. I did immediately like it! A melodical intro, a recognizable refrain with beautiful harmonies performed by 3 unique voices. Gianluca impressed reaching high notes as softly as a cat’s paw – was it falcetto? – while Piero confirmed that he does now likewise master soft tones as I didn’t even notice the shift between them while following bringing it up to the more typical IL VOLO sound. When Ignazio enters with his rougher and stronger voice the song is lifted into full power in beautiful harmonies! Ok – not Grande Amore – but a lovely little song perfectly suited for the purpose and so absolutely a true contender to win the Eurovision. Contemporary dressed yet elegant they took in the stage with grace. I was happy and proud of them – only that wasn’t shared by the Italian Press… I couldn’t believe my eyes when learning that they weren’t among the Top 5. And even worse whom they had brought into the first place…. The second night they presented themself even better – looking a bit more relaxed and big smiling. Again – I was happy – but likewise again the Radio Jury (plus tele voters) disagreed and they were neither in the Top 5 that now. My disbelief grew – ok we had been warned – but not even considered among the three first places astonished me with dismay.

Friday came around and WOW I was totally blown backwards. What a fantastic performance by the guys! They nailed that “Queen” song spot on. OMG. They delivered the quiet and soft parts with such a passion and depth that I got goosebumps – they were like in one with the music – and the refrain was song with such a power that the roof lifted. Ignazio hit those high notes so effortless as was it a piece of cake while Gianluca and Piero forcefully lifted the harmonies to the sky. Once again Piero demonstrated that he masters the rougher rock sounds fully too – and honestly I don’t think I have ever heard them sing better. If nothing this was “capolavoro”! Their smiles told me that they were happy and satisfied themselves too. This was so absolutely the best performance all night and I was convinced that they would win this duet section – hence my jaw dropped learning that once again they weren’t even considered in the Top 5! How could that be possible??? Didn’t the audience have eyes and eyes? It was a performance beyond compare! I had tears in my eyes.

It must have been such a huge disappointment and a kick under the belt for the guys – hence I don’t even know how they mustered to go stage again next night. But yes – they are pro and once again they delivered giving us a beautiful “Cabilavoro”. Albeit apparently smiling it was obvious to those of us knowing them well that those smile didn’t reach their eyes – and the stage was left quietly without any spontaneous antics or funny remarks. But they held their heads high and left the stage in full dignity. Bravo guys. But I am convinced that by now they knew that they wouldn’t make it to the final. I was devastated and angry and so much wished I could have hugged and comforted them. Luckily they had family and good friend awaiting them in the dressing room and they seemed to get through the night with smiles and laughter enabling them in good spirit to gratulate Gianluca with his b-day at midnight. Way to go guys!

I am proud of our guys. They were the true winners – and while we have forgotten most of the other participants next year IL VOLO will sparkle brighter than ever on the international sky and we will all sing along on “Capolavoro” at their sold out concerts!

PS in all fairness there were also a few all ok performances by some of the other participants – and I marked Annalisa and Mango among those I anticipated to end in the top. And apparently they did.

Sending warm and loving thoughts to our guys and comfort and hope to you my fellow IL VOLO lovers. Greetings – Kirsten 🇩🇰

    1. A kind of unfareness was felt from the judges. The talent, the good voices, harmony were not taken in consideration. I think they should not participate any more in the San Remo Festival. Il Volo we appreciate your talent. From Mexico my best wishes for Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio. México 🇲🇽 loves you three

      1. My final word, I think! Was just scrolling through the internet news and found euroNEWS.culture and there were several articles about Sanremo and the contestants! After reading them all there is not ONE mention of IlVOLO even competing! Talks of the critics etc and past winners! One would never know of our beloved boys were ever mentioned!
I am disgusted and disappointed from the Italian radio, critics and everyone involved with Sanremo!

      2. Natalia, I don’t think they will participate as competitors again.
The judges did not do their job properly.

      3. It’s exactly like that Sheila, there is a kind of silence that prevents people from writing or talking about Il Volo.
It’s incredible, even in the style report cards they were practically ignored. But there is a new interesting interview that talks about this, but not in the next post, further down the line!

    2. Kirsten said most everything I was thinking about this past week in a far more coherent elegant way, but my need to vent is too strong. I love “Capolavoro”, love the video even more, and was so impressed by their performance of the Queen song. They can sing anything, and sing it with excellence. But having been following the guys for many years, I remember San Remo 2019 and the vile pathetic press jury room behavior, working to keep Il Volo off the platform. I took Daniela’s warnings to heart. Still I hoped the guys’ efforts would be acknowleged and respected if not awarded. But it was not to be; disrespect and efforts to humiliate continue.

I hurt for them in 2019 and feel worse for them now. I wish I could hug them, make them feel better somehow. They hid their hurt and disappointment like the great professionals they are, but watching them with Mara Venier, it was obvious that Piero wanted to be anywhere else, away from the sampling of journalists who disrespect them. He couldn’t get off the stage fast enough. Igna might be angry but seems more secure in his knowledge that the judges are idiots. Gian did his best to understand and reason with some of the representatives, but watching his emotional post-festival video brought me to tears.

They know that whatever they do, respect is not forthcoming in the press or radio. No amount of success can entirely make up for this disrepect. They’ve worked so hard to be accepted and loved in their home country. People love them but powerful forces work to keep them down. Please guys, no more San Remo. The festival doesn’t deserve you. Your loving fans are waiting for you around the world; take a break and then rule the world.

      1. I so much concur with you. I pray that they shall never revert to The Sanremo Festival – PR/media exposure or not. Sanremo is not worthy of them.

      2. To whom do you say Citrondor, I too hoped that the ostracism towards Il Volo was a thing of the past, and instead I realized that it still resists. Perhaps the best thing would be to stop voting in the press room. I’m so tired of all this and I can understand the bitterness that the guys and their families are feeling. You’re right, the festival doesn’t deserve them.

      3. Kirsten, believe me, despite everything, something pleasant was positive, I’m monitoring it and I’ll explain it later in the posts.

    3. Dear Kirsten, surely the state of mind while you were waiting to hear Capolavoro for the first time was the same as all of us, a mixture of expectation, emotion and fear that it might deviate too much from what we love. And instead we immediately calmed down, the new drive is there but they are still our beloved Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero. And even in the new way of dressing, they dared, but without abandoning their sobriety and elegance.

We were all surprised by the lack of a podium, especially for the evening of the covers, which would certainly have given a great push forward to our loved ones, who would have been in the shortlist of 5 finalists.
I will continue to repeat it, the first place in the evening of the covers was rightfully theirs, a masterful interpretation, everything perfect, shivers on the skin’s edge.
It certainly couldn’t have been easy for our boys, they knew they had done well and that it was a real injustice.

But we are very proud of them and we will be able to demonstrate it in their concerts and in the purchase of their CDs, this is our love and respect for them.

      1. I so much concur with everything you say Daniela. But now you are holding me in suspense as to some good news so I can hardly wait to read it. Hugs – Kirsten

  37. Even if I didn’t hear the winners, in my heart and soul, Il Volo will always be my Forever Trios, I am biased and I can face it. The world can turn upside down but I will never change that Il Volo will always be in my heart, mind, and soul! YOU ARE THE WINNER! I am Fortune from Hawaii.

  39. With the exception of a couple performers there was no talent in this contest. I would’nt even consider most of it singing. It seemed the more they screamed and carried on the more applause they got from the audience. Il Volo was so above the rest there was no comparison. When they sang
Who wants to live forever they took the competition to a whole different level and no one , not even the establshed singers who appeared in the duets with the contestants could compete with them. I honestly don’t know what the press and radio people have against these three incredible young men. There has to be something more to it. To treat them so despicable for 15 years is truly a disgace. These young men have nothing to prove to anyone. Piero,Gianluca, and Ignazio are the best. For us fans they win everytime and always will!

    1. Cathy, after a long time we still can’t overcome this aversion towards Il Volo who has always had exemplary behavior, in addition to his skill.
But follow us and soon you will read that someone is writing all this in their defense.

  40. The only thing that makes me feel good about the whole Sanremo Festival is all the interviews and publicity the guys got and they appeared to be having a really good time and said they made new friends and they certainly got more fans. I was disappointed for them, they certainly deserved better . I have not stopped humming Capolvoro since I heard it the first time. I hope the interview from the basement will be translated. Thanks for everything.

    1. It was their goal, Bev, to be interviewed, for better or for worse Sanremo was seen by all of Italy, even by people who have never seen or heard Il Volo. The media exposure has been remarkable and it’s not over yet. Tomorrow they will be on Radio Italia, and the interviews I have translated for you are only a small part of those actually done.

  41. I am very disappointed for our boys. It doesn’t seem fair that they are not appreciated enough by their own people, while we on the other side of the world LOVE them.

  42. I would certainly be embarrassed and remiss if I did not mention this until now. In looking back over this past week I did not thank you and Pat for a stella, arduous and most fun and entertaining week of postings, you brought it all home to to my home. I predict they will eventually move more back to Bel Canto in the future. In fact, I think I heard snippets of Bel Canto in Masterpiece. Thanks so much again!
