In days at the end of April, as you well know, there was the anniversary of the start of Il Volo’s career.
Searching on YouTube for something that documented their beginnings (I have been following them since 2015), I came across many videos with Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca who were really young, in their first interviews, what sweet treasures, they didn’t yet know how to speak English well, and it’s so nice to hear their answers, even though they were really young, their answers are mature and don’t deviate from what they say even now. It’s nice to hear their hesitation about the future and the hope that everything will go well for them. ❤️❤️❤️
What little treasures, they still struggled to understand well and respond in English, but what love!! ❤️❤️❤️

In those years, Gianluca had a girlfriend, Jessica, who he also mentions in the video. Jessica Brando is an Italian singer, photo model, at that time they were very much in love. 😍😍

Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca have always said that they went to a school in the US. to learn the language, while they learned Spanish thanks to Humberto Gatica, who spoke Spanish with them.

These videos don’t need many comments, because they speak for themselves, they tell us about the beginnings of three boys who didn’t know each other. Three guys full of talent, but also of enormous values, well anchored to their roots and the education they received, guys with a head on their shoulders despite their young age.
Also full of dreams and paths that came true, but continually evolving, kids who didn’t give up at the first difficulties but made the most of them. They are Il Volo, they are Piero, Ignazio, Gianluca. ❤️❤️❤️

In the interview where you mentioned that they were starting to learn English they told us the names of the singers they admire.
I was astonished that Piero mentioned Janis Joplin. She has been gone so long. She hit the scene like fireworks but soon burned out. She was a favorite of mine as IL Volo is now, but completely different.
It’s my pleasure, Gail! I was also surprised by Piero mentioning Janis Joplin. As they have said before they listen to all kinds of music! 😃
Gail is like that, many singers are “meteors” because then you never hear about them again. Time, however, is telling us that Il Volo is still there and is highly appreciated, as the three of them often say, it’s easy to be successful, the difficult thing is to maintain it…..but the three of them are succeeding!
Daniela, I think their fans should feel lucky that they were so well brought up and, especially, have excellent management. Janis was brought down by drug addiction. IL Volo members are supporting each other. They take good care of themselves so we will be able to enjoy them for a long time.

Oh Daniela and Pat – you made my day! These videos are true gems and I loved watching each and every one of them. Those guys are simply out of the world – so grounded, humble, sweet – I rally don’t know how they have managed to stay this way for 15 years. OMG they were so cute and singing so fantastic right from the very beginning. With screaming girls adoring them – how have they been able to avoid all the traps of stardom like drugs, booz, a new girl in each town and a life in the fast lane? I commend them sooooo much for having managed to go through the vulnerable teenage years and the wild twenties without actually having changed a bit. They are as honest, pure and genuine as when they set foot in the US for the very first time. They are true role models for young people today and I only hope and wish that in another 15 years we shall find them exactly the same way just with a bit over silver threads in their hair ;-). Thanks for the huge researh job and for sharing these lovely clips with us.

Thank you, Kirsten! I’m glad we delighted you! I was thinking the same thing when watching the videos with all the screaming girls! How did those young teenage boys deal with that? How did it not go to their heads? You know it had to affect them a little bit but I’m sure their parents kept them grounded. It certainly had to be overwhelming with them coming from Italy to other countries and having all the young girls going nuts over them. But fortunately they have turned out to be very caring and mature young men who can knock our socks off with their wonderful voices! 🥰🎶

Hi Kirsten, I knew that these videos would steal your heart, you didn’t meet them when they were so young, but you certainly saw that they were already mature for their age, with very clear ideas about respect and dreams of the future, kids who over time have followed the right path indicated by their families, kids with deep roots who have not uprooted their good habits and were not tempted by the desire to spend every penny they earned. And their voices, already beautiful at that time, are now much more refined, the talent was there but the study was also applied. We like what we see and everything we discover makes us appreciate them more and more.

Yes, Daniela – I fully agree with all that you write. I didn’t know them when they were teenagers – but, actually, I fell in love with them watching a video in which they were just 16-17 years old. Only after having done some thorough research on the internet I realized the following day that they were actually 10 years older as the pictures I did then see showed them with beards and adult looks ;-). So I have loved them from very young as well in sort of a way 🙂 <3
And oh YES Daniela. The countdown has begun. On Wednesday hubby and I shall be leaving Denmark heading your way – and we look so much forward to seeing you again in Verona on Saturday 🙂 And YES I do sincerely hope that we shall be pampered with The Phantom of the Opera by my fave Il Volo – that would crown the night :).

Karen, I confirm what you write, those who don’t know Il Volo cannot understand certain things. Who knows if Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca are aware that they also have this other precious gift of theirs: that of making people feel good, of alleviating hard days, of being of great support and company…..who knows! 🥰
I have followed Il Volo since the beginning but did not learn of the Flight Crew until 2019 after seeing my first in person concert. I would not have learned all the things I have about the boys without you Daniela and Pat. I love seeing the videos of the guys when they were young. Thank you so much. Such adorable, kind, sweet young boys now wonderful young men. It has been a pleasure watching them grow up and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them.

Great videos which I have seen almost all of them as I first saw them on the first PBS special and became a fan immediately. I then perused you tube and saw almost every video that had been made up to then and now still every night go on youtube on my tv and watch everything there is on my boys. I am completely one of their biggest fans. As I tell you every story you do,, I really appreciate all the updates look forward to all the translations and all the videos. Keep up the great work.
