IL VOLO TO PAVAROTTI 90 by Daniela

The evening of November 5th, here in Italy, an event was dedicated to Pavarotti: PAVAROTTI 90,  recorded at the Arena in Verona on September 30th, it was broadcast on television on Canale 5. The live event (which I already previewed with an amateur video filmed live during the evening) featured numerous guests, including Il Volo, who performed two songs, and now I’m re-proposing it to you with the Canale 5 video.
The evening was hosted by Michelle Hunziker, Il Volo will sing Capolavoro together with three sopranos and will follow with Granada.

MICHELLE = And now this special moment, in the spirit of “Pavarotti & Friends” (Pavarotti & Friends was a charity musical event organized for ten years between 1992 and 2003 in Modena by tenor Luciano Pavarotti and his second wife Nicoletta Mantovani to support humanitarian causes), six fantastic artists, three women and three men, will join their voices for a duet that will become a sextet.
Together with Marion Battistelli, Carmen Gianatasio, and Giulia Mazzola we welcome with applause: Il Volo! (Il Volo enters amid applause).
Ladies and gentlemen, at Pavarotti 90: CAPOLAVORO.
MICHELLE = Thank you to Marion Battistelli, Carmen Gianatasio, and Giulia Mazzola (the three sopranos exit).
Guys, come here to me, good evening. What a pleasure to see these kids that I saw when they were very little. We were on stage together at Wetten Das in Germany (2013), and now you’re a father, Ignazio!
IGNAZIO = Yes, now I’m a father, and it’s a wonderful thing.
MICHELLE = Why don’t you sleep anymore, you asked?
IGNAZIO = No, I don’t sleep anymore, but when you imagine becoming a father, you think… yes, I won’t sleep… and maybe you see it as a negative thing. Then you realize that even if you don’t sleep, and you watch him or give him milk when he wakes up in the morning, everything, every sacrifice is worth it in the end, you get the idea!
MICHELLE = It’s true!! Guys, I’m so happy to see you here. What’s it like to be here and sing for Luciano Pavarotti?
GIANLUCA = It’s a great privilege for us. It all started with Pavarotti, who brought this music out of the theater, even to the public, to a large audience all over the world, mixing various musical genres, and then came Maestro Andrea Bocelli. We’re proud to be able to bring this music to even the youngest audiences and to continue doing so, hopefully for the rest of our lives.
MICHELLE = And you’re doing it divinely, I’d say. I’m a huge fan of yours, you know that (it’s true, she’s a great friend and fan of Il Volo).
PIERO = Thank you! We never had the chance to meet Luciano Pavarotti, but we can say he inspired us, he was the one who inspired us to do what we’re doing, and we try to do it in the best way possible, with a smile, but above all with love and passion. (applause)
MICHELLE = Guys, I’d say you can come back to center stage because you have another big surprise for us, right?
IGNAZIO = Yes!
MICHELLE = You can head to the center of the stage, please (the song will be conducted by Placido Domingo, who is filmed hugging and replacing Maestro Leonardo De Amicis, who, I remind you, conducted our guys during Ti Lascio Una Canzone).
On the podium, an exceptional conductor: Placido Domingo (hugs with the guys).
Il Volo sings: GRANADA.
Il Volo conducted by Placido Domingo, the maestro who directed this beautiful Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Orchestra. These young men, full of energy and vitality, had the pleasure of being conducted by the maestro. (Long applause and bows from Il Volo and Domingo.)
What a spectacular moment, thank you!

It was a great honor for us to be able to pay tribute to Maestro Pavarotti.
Thank you.
These are beautiful thoughts captured backstage.
IGNAZIO = It was an emotional evening, also because Pavarotti means so much to us; he means inspiration. He’s one of those artists who, over the years, has taught us not to place limits on music or taste.
GIANLUCA = I believe it’s right to remember the man who moved the world. As long as we live, we will always strive to carry this music forward, with our voices, even for the younger generation.
PIERO = The man who brought opera to the general public, thank you, Luciano!

🎶 “…and this life with you is a Capolavoro.”
While I’m in Berlin for Tosca, I’m thrilled to relive the extraordinary evening at the @arenadiverona for Pavarotti 90, together with Il Volo, @mariambattistelli, and @giuliamazzola96, to celebrate Maestro Luciano Pavarotti.
His art, his humanity, and his voice continue to accompany us, inspire us, and unite worlds and generations. 💫
A truly beautiful event, a precious memory for someone who lived for music.
Our guys, as always, were impeccable: talented, handsome, elegant, and histrionic, because they know how to keep their cool even on important occasions.
Once again, you’re the best!

  1. Hi Daniela
    Thank you for your post.
I think I mentioned I was at the Arena. di Verona, Pavorotti tribute..
It was amazing and when I booked the tickets we didn’t at the time know Il Volo were performing.
So it was the cherry on top of the cake.
Everyone was amazing, I wished Il Volo could have sung more than 2 songs.
The sopranos that sang Capolavaro were good but I think they over powered the ragazzi.
    But Granada was fantastic.

Placido Domingo considering his age he sang really well, which made me emotional.
Only thing it did rain heavy, so we couldn’t see the end.
Sorry I can’t put any video or photos.

Anyway thank you again, as usual you are amazing.

    Warm wishes
    👏❤️

    1. Yes, Fenella, I remembered you were at the Pavarotti tribute and you also told me it had rained. In fact, a friend of mine, watching the Canale 5 show, asked me if it had rained that evening, and I replied that a friend of mine was there (that’s you) and confirmed it had.
The professional images on Canale 5 certainly do justice to the evening, which must have been truly beautiful!

      1. Awr thank you Daniela that’s very sweet, I’m pleased and grateful we are friends, even though we haven’t met.
        And you remembered about me.
Yes not just rain it was a real down pour. Such a shame but wouldn’t have missed the tribute.

I don’t know if I have mentioned but I’m going to the concert in Bologna December 2026, my first concert.
So something to look forward to.

Also thank you again for your post on the German concerts too.
Keep well and lots of love
        Fenella 😘

  2. Two of my favorite ladies! You are amazing, we never miss anything thanks to you both! I wish I could have viewed the whole concert. Pavarotti was my intro into pop opera, then Andrea followed by our three gorgeous men with their incredible voices! LONG LIVE ILVOLO.!!! And their dreams.
Thank you so much for this lovely article, you always have us waiting with bated breath for the next post!
    Enjoy your weekend’s rest!
With love and admiration, Carol 💖💖💖🎼🎶🎵🎤❤️🤗😘🙏🏻☮️

    1. You’re most welcome, Carol! 😊 I’m sorry you couldn’t view the concert. Maybe try going directly to YouTube and searching for – Il Volo en Pavarotti 90: Capolavoro y Granada (Arena de Verona, 6/9/2025). That is the title of the video by Il Volo en clase.

    2. Indeed, Carol, Pavarotti, besides being a great tenor, also helped “take opera out of its traditional mold” and to create a marriage between opera and pop—in short, he opened the now-rusty gates of various theaters. Unfortunately, many “opera lovers” (aficionados of pure opera) didn’t appreciate this approach and are always at the forefront of criticizing those who propagate this ideal, Il Volo first and foremost.

  3. It was an absolutely beautiful program. I was lucky enough to be able to see it firsthand but not lucky enough to be able to capture everything I wanted to this has helped tremendously thank you Daniela as always you have made us smile made a stream made us love them even more and I have to tell you we love you too Thank you for all you do for us.

    1. Thanks Cindi, I’m always happy when I’ve managed to help someone in some way, it makes me very happy.

  4. I was so happy to get this, Daniela and Pat, because I had only been able to see little snippets of it on Instagram. It was so wonderful that our guys were included in this tribute to such an incredible legend–but of course, how could they not be??
It was so interesting that the conductor of the excellent orchestra was their conductor during Ti Lascio Una Canzone at the very beginning of it all.

    1. Yes Judi, the amateur video that was released when the show was taped certainly didn’t enhance the event, but it did serve to give you a preview. Now that the official video of the evening has been released by Canale 5, we all have the pleasure of hearing and seeing our favorites at an evening tribute to the great Pavarotti.

  5. GRAZIEEEEEEEEEEE DANIELA !!! MAGNIFIC CONCERTO
SONO FELICE DI VOSTRO MAIL PER ME !!! SEGUO IL VOLO SU YOU TUBE OGNI GIORNII !!!!!!!!!!! BACI A TUTTI !!

That’s right, Luz. Let’s just say that Piero, Gianluca, and Ignazio are a clear example of great values that many young people, especially young artists, often fail to recognize.
Our guys are a clear example of admiration, both for their professionalism and their character, and that’s why they’re so popular.

  7. Oh what a lovely re-see and thanks so much for the translations. It is indeed such a pleasure to see our guys being invited to and included in this fine event. An honor so absolutely but not the least a full acknowledgement of their talents and a confirmation of the fact that they are the right successors of this genre. I’m so happy on their behalf. And once again the prove that they know how to adapt to the occasion – elegant throughout. PS I do, however, prefer Capolavoro sung without the ladies though… the sound became a bit “too much”.
    Best regards – Kirsten🇩🇰

    1. I absolutely agree, our three guys know how to adapt perfectly to any evening and be irreverent, but also true gentlemen, they’re truly histrionic.
Let’s say that “Capolavoro,” sung by six people, was a way to bring pop music closer to opera and fit in with the theme of the evening.
