On Saturday, February 7th, an episode of the show C’è Posta Per Te aired on Canale 5, and among the various guests was Il Volo.
Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca have already participated in this format in past years, which is based on one person’s request to meet again or thank another.
The show is hosted by the talented Maria De Filippi.
I translate for you.
MARIA = This is the story of a gift, let’s start with the video.
IGNAZIO = What we’re experiencing is so beautiful that I’m almost afraid to wake up from this life that seems almost magical.
GIANLUCA = The goal is to show that we’re proud of what we’ve built but that we have so much to say. PIERO = Maestro Placido Domingo.
COLLABORATION WITH THE GREATEST ARTISTS IN MUSIC
DOMINGO = Thank you for having an incredible friendship.
PIERO = Thank you, Maestro.
Il Volo will be together for a long time, we hope forever, and full steam ahead.
MARIA = Il Volo! (Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca enter the studio, kisses and hugs)
PIERO= Hi
IGNAZIO= Hi, good evening. How are you?
MARIA= Good, thanks. Go ahead.
GIANLUCA= Good evening.
PIERO= Thank you, thank you.
IGNAZIO= Thank you so much.
You have a crowd more enthusiastic than an 80,000-capacity stadium.
GIANLUCA= Incredible!
IGNAZIO= The same volume, exactly the same!
MARIA= They’re absolutely spontaneous.
IGNAZIO= Thank you.
PIERO= Thank you, thank you.
MARIA = Absolutely.
Let’s let Annamaria in. (The woman who sent the letter enters, kisses and hugs with Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero)
When I met Annamaria, she said to me:
“I want to come to C’è Posta Per Te for my husband Giuseppe.” Then, she said to me: “We’ve been married for many, many years, and the worst thing that can happen to a mother and father has happened to us.”
In four months, they lost their daughter Sara, who was only twenty years old. She said to me: “Now Sara is at home in a little heart-shaped urn, with all her things, with all our cats, and every morning we give her lilac tulips because it’s right that a flower should be with flowers.”
She told me: “When Sara left, I feared my marriage would fall apart, because it’s a huge pain for me and for him. When Sara was born, he told me he had two queens: one was me and the other was Sara.”
Since Sara’s passing, her husband has put aside all his pain and has focused solely on her. She told me that all he does is look at her to see if she’s suffering. He has to go to work but doesn’t want to go for fear of leaving her alone. He’s always there to welcome her and listen to her. At this point, she decides to come here to tell him that she’s ready to embrace his pain, too, and that he needs to stop thinking only of her, but that she needs to be the one to think of him, too. She told me she wants them to cry together and talk about Sara. She wants him to vent to her, because she’s ready to listen. She said:
“I’m here. I know I can be strong right now. I know he’s hurting, but he’s keeping everything to himself and not telling me.”
I know, guys, it’s not easy. I understand, it wasn’t easy for me either, and I’m older (Maria lost her husband a few years ago).
Let’s see the mail being delivered.
(At this point, a video starts of a postman delivering the show invitation to Annamaria’s husband, and we discover that they live in Syracuse, Sicily.)
POSTMAN = Hi Maria, I’m in Syracuse today and I have to deliver your invitation to Giuseppe. I’m off!
Good evening, nice to meet you. I’m Andrea from C’è Posta Per Te and I’m looking for Giuseppe. Are you?
GIUSEPPE = Yes.
POSTMAN = Maria De Filippi sent me this. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the show.
GIUSEPPE = Sure.
POSTMAN = So, I have an invitation for you (at this point he asks a few questions to be sure of the person). I know you were born in December.
GIUSEPPE = Yes.
POSTMAN = I know you attended the IPSIA Institute in Syracuse.
GIUSEPPE = Yes.
POSTMAN = Perfect, then I’m very happy to deliver you the official invitation from C’è Posta Per Te. Here it is, it’s from Mrs. Maria De Filippi, and before we say goodbye, we always say one thing:
GIUSEPPE = C’è Posta Per Te.
(The delivery is finished, he returns to the studio)
MARIA= Guys, I’ll have you stand over there. (She asks Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca to stand near the large envelope so they won’t be seen by the camera.)
Here we are. (turning to Annamaria)
Andrea (the postman who is now in the studio)
POSTMAN= Yes, Maria.
MARIA= Has Giuseppe accepted the invitation?
POSTMAN= Giuseppe has accepted the invitation and is here with us. Please. (Giuseppe enters)
MARIA= Hi, I’m Maria, please come in. So, in a little while, we’ll see who sent it to you, and you tell me if you want to listen.
GIUSEPPE = Yes.
MARIA = Let’s open the envelope. (At that moment, he sees the sender, who is Annamaria.)
Did you know? Did you understand? Can I get her to talk?
GIUSEPPE = Sure.
MARIA = You’re welcome, Annamaria.
ANNAMARIA = Hello my love. Unfortunately, life with us has been cruel, unfair. You always said you had two queens, but now you have only one queen left. But I want to thank you for everything you do for me, for all the care you give, for the attention you give. You’re a model husband, wonderful.
I’m here to tell you that I want to comfort you now. I want to give you all the comfort you deserve so that one day you can see that smile that defined you when Sara was here again. She would want that.
(Two children enter, positioning the hull of a boat)
(Now Maria will read a long letter with Annamaria’s words)
MARIA = Giuseppe, my love, the love I have for you is as immense as the sea we’ve loved all our lives. It has the same force as the waves that beat against the boat when we went out on sunny days, the same depth of the waters when we moved away from the coast, the same peace of the sunsets that you and I silently admired, huddled together on our sun loungers. The sea has been our heart’s place; in the blue we confided in each other, we laughed and daydreamed; in the blue we watched our little girl play and grow, and we felt happy and lucky.
Maybe that’s why when I think of our love, I see water, the water that today holds the most beautiful memories of our lives. The spark of our love, however, was struck far from the sea, one August afternoon back in 1992, when you came into my house with the excuse of accompanying my cousin. I was 15 and you were 17, and from that afternoon onward, you stopped by every day, looking at me and smiling with those shy, clean green eyes, and even though I pretended nothing was happening, something stirred inside me.
I remember when you came to pick me up from the Quintiliano Teacher Training Institute. I saw you arrive on your Cagiva Mito (a motorcycle), and my heart beat faster than the engine. “Jump on,” you’d say, laughing, and even though I was scared, I trusted you.
That trust, Giuseppe, never abandoned me, because you courted me like a boy from another time , without haste, with respect and so much sweetness. My parents weren’t really into getting engaged because of my young age until you came to dinner one night. That evening, you barely breathed, but you managed to win everyone over. From there, 10 years of engagement followed: the trips, the laughter, the silly jealousies, the nights spent talking, the mornings when you picked me up from school even in the rain. Then one fine day, without mincing words, I said to you: “Giuseppe, silver engagement rings don’t exist. Do we want to get married or not?” And the next day, you had already found the wedding reception hall. On June 7, 2003, you waited for me at the altar with teary eyes. “You’re beautiful,” you said, and shortly thereafter, life gave us the most beautiful gift: Sara, our little girl, our greatest joy, we became three.
(a little girl carrying a heart enters the studio)
Sara was born on August 31st via emergency cesarean section because she was in such a hurry to be born. You held her before me, and as soon as you touched her little hands, you gave her her first smile. I’d never seen you so excited, and just thinking about it still makes me emotional. Once we got home, you bent over backwards to help me. You bathed her, prepared her food, and cuddled her to sleep. And when Sara struggled to sleep, you patiently loaded her into the car, drove around the block, and she collapsed within minutes. The first word our daughter uttered was, in fact, “Daddy,” and when you heard it with your own ears, you dropped your work bag on the floor in shock and ran to shower her with kisses.
Even the kindergarten teachers adored you so much that you were hired as the class Santa Claus, and you, in your red suit, were even more excited than the kids. We took so many camper trips with our Saretta. Oh my, so many photos, so many laughs, do you remember? She’d sit in the front next to you, waving at everyone at the traffic lights, and you’d laugh and always repeat: “Have you seen how beautiful she is?” You were her first teacher in so many ways: you taught her to ride a bike without training wheels, she learned to swim without armbands with you, and you taught her to trust life. The three of us traveled halfway across Italy, belting out every song we could. Then came adolescence, high school, her dream of one day becoming a voice actress, solo trips around Europe, and you had the courage to let her do it.
You know, I trembled every time she left, but you always said: “Our daughter has a good head on her shoulders, let’s let her go,” and you were right, my love, because Sara was smart and it was right to trust her. Our life was a calm, colorful sea, and everything revolved around our little mermaid. None of us could have imagined that the worst of hurricanes was brewing on the horizon.
(Children enter the office carrying high waves.)
The world truly collapsed on us: that pain tormenting Sara’s chest, a cyst that wasn’t a cyst, the CT scan at the hospital, the rush to Milan, her sleeping in our bed like a baby, the two of us without a wink of sleep, and then those words from the doctors that no parent should hear.
Every time the doctor called us, you always tried to protect me and faced everything alone. Then I’d find you at night, crying in secret so as not to scare me and the “picciridda” (a Sicilian dialect word meaning “the little one”). But Sara was too smart. One day she looked at us and said, “I’m not stupid, why don’t you tell me exactly how I am?” And you collapsed on top of her, moved and tender, and said, “You’ll see, you’ll see, we’ll make it.” There wasn’t a minute that you didn’t dedicate to her. You wet her lips with water, you fixed her hair, you held her close as if you wanted to protect her from everything. When the doctors told her, “You have a wonderful father,” she smiled proudly: “I know, my dad is special and I love him so much.” But it wasn’t enough to save her. On February 2, 2025, our world of hers shattered and we sank into the blackest abyss.
A pain that has no name, no words to describe a parent who loses their daughter, but there’s something I feel today, a year later, that motivates this letter. I’m certain that Sara would like to live on through us, Giuseppe, and we must find strength and rise again for her.
(A moon descends from the top of the studio.)
Since that terrible day, you’ve put yourself aside, you’ve completely lost yourself, you’ve built a wall around your pain, and you’ve certainly done it to protect me. You ask me how I’m doing 100 times a day, you check if I’m eating, sleeping, breathing, you shower me with cuddles. To avoid leaving me too alone, some afternoons you take me with you to your business meetings. If we go out for pizza, you always make sure to sit next to me, as if you were afraid of losing contact with my hand, which you hold tightly whenever you can. You watch me talk to people, but you don’t speak anymore. You have a strong body and it seems like you can handle everything, but your soul has lost its light and I’m afraid because I see how your eyes sink when you think, I know you feel guilty for something that doesn’t depend on you or anyone else, because fate doesn’t ask permission when it acts and you, my love, did everything for your daughter, you took her to the doctors, you ran, you insisted, you suffered, you prayed, you loved as the best father knows how.
No one in the world could have done more than you. It’s time for you to stop saying, “It’s my fault,” because it’s not true, and above all, this terrible thought can’t bring our daughter back. If we’re here, it’s because I don’t want you to live just to protect me. I want to be the one to protect you. I want to help you feel better. I want you to vent to me without worrying about worrying me, because you’re a wonderful man, and above all, because Sara wouldn’t want to see you like this.
(In the studio, a sail descends from above for the boat and seagulls fly overhead.)
Giuseppe, we will never be the same again. We won’t be three anymore, but we won’t be two either, because Sara is always with us every day and in every gesture. She’s in the photo in the kitchen, in the lilac tulips you bring me on Sundays, in the tattoo we bear on our skin. I long with all my heart to see you slowly breathe again, talk again, maybe even smile one day, because Sara loved that smile and wants it back, and if you trust me, we’ll find it again together. You are the man who has loved me for 33 years, without ever letting me go without anything. You are the best father a daughter could wish for. You are all that remains of our wonderful family with our Sara walking beside us and a “great love,” Giuseppe, just like that song you loved so much and that the three of us sang together while it was on the radio.
But I have a little secret for you that’s about to be revealed: the radio stayed at home, but someone is about to come down from that staircase in front of you who I’m sure will give you the first of those smiles you deserve.
(The song “Capolavoro” begins, and Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero come down the stairs and hug Giuseppe.)
IGNAZIO = Giuseppe, who for us in Sicily is Peppino (Sicilian way of calling Giuseppe).
PIERO = Hello Giuseppe.
GIUSEPPE = Pleased to meet you. (Everyone sits on the sofa.)
IGNAZIO = I have to tell you that you have an amazing wife, you have a great wife, and let’s just say I thought several times back there whether to talk about it or not because I recently became a father. My son is now four and a half months old, and it’s really difficult. It’s something that can’t be explained, the love for children. I can only tell you that you two are superheroes, truly.
It would be completely obvious to say that Sara is always with you, because you know it. I can only tell you, as far as I’m concerned, that you always have to start from your strengths when you’re in difficulty, and I very humbly believe that your strength today is having someone like that by your side (applause) with whom you can share and experience all the moments that come your way, even if it’s difficult, I know. (applause) It’s important to have someone like that by your side, a wife who understands you, a wife who loves you, a wife who supports you, because the man is always seen as the one who has to take care of the woman, and it’s difficult to let the woman take care of you. I see this a lot with my wife. I was lucky enough to find someone who makes me feel safe, and letting her take care of me was perhaps one of the most beautiful things I’ve learned in my life, and I’m only thirty. (applause)
PIERO = Shall I go?
GIANLUCA = Do you want to say something?
PIERO = It’s also difficult to say something because in these cases I believe that pain is an extremely personal thing, so we can’t come here and tell you how to deal with it and in what way, but we respect the way you deal with your pain.
Annamaria is your strong point, but I heard in her letter that she spoke so much about your smile. She wants to see you smile again without feeling guilty, because you’ve already proven yourself to be a great person. Strengthen your smile, your smile for your wife. (applause) We know, some people spend sixty years working through such a difficult loss, but as Ignazio said, now try to find the clarity to face the future, and it’s nice to lean on memories too. Now what remains is the memory, and I’m pleased that we are present in your memories because we know you listened to our song “Grande Amore” together, and this makes us honored to be present in your memories together with your daughter. (applause)
GIANLUCA = If there’s one thing that’s moved me since the first time we met you, it’s the light you carry within you. You have a kindness of spirit that moves me and is palpable, even though it’s the first time we’ve seen each other. It’s clear that pain may be difficult to overcome, but in life we must learn to bear it, to face it, because this is the mission we are all called to, because unfortunately, life is unpredictable.
Even if we haven’t met her, we, all the people here, Maria, Sara will also be with us, because we will carry her through your eyes, through the light that Sara transmits to you because she is within you every day of your life, and we promise you that we too, all of us, will carry her with us because we have known her through your eyes. (applause)
IGNAZIO = I feel like saying just one thing. Maria and I have talked about it often. In 2021, I lost my father, and I learned that there is a big difference between ABSENCE and LACK. Today, we can feel the absence of those who are no longer physically by our side, but not the loss, because as Piero said, we have memories, we have moments together, and some moments that only we have in our hearts, and if we close our eyes, we know what we are experiencing. Loss isn’t a bad thing sometimes, when these things happen, because you have your memories inside. (applause)
PIERO = But really, get rid of the guilt, try to get rid of it, that’s the only comfort I can tell you and give you, so rely on your smile, you’re a beautiful person, Giuseppe, and you too, Annamaria. (applause)
IGNAZIO = And then, to help you give a smile…can we? (He says, turning to Maria)….
PIERO = In the dressing room, we looked at who has the biggest pockets…
IGNAZIO =… not the wallet, Piero has the biggest one (laughter)…
PIERO = …..so Giuseppe, we know you sang our song together, we sang it in July if I’m not mistaken, right, Annamaria?
IGNAZIO = Annamaria, when is that?
ANNAMARIA = Yes, in July.
PIERO = We’ll be singing in Syracuse in July, and we want to have you at our concert. Here are the two passes for our concert, one for you and one for Annamaria (applause), but you have to make me a promise. I know you sang together, but I don’t know your vocal grade. Don’t sing at the concert, listen to the songs…
GIANLUCA = Maybe he’s better than you!!!
IGNAZIO = (he starts singing Grande Amore a cappella, Giuseppe follows him but he’s out of tune)…ok, fine, just listen!! (applause and laughter)
PIERO = Here, Giuseppe.
IGNAZIO = It’ll be a pleasure to have you with us, but then we have another…
PIERO = Wait, let’s be clear, if you’d prefer to come to our concert in another city, you can, it doesn’t have to be just the one in Syracuse.
GIANLUCA = Annamaria, we heard you’re afraid of flying, not of us (pun intended), in other words, of flying. If you change your mind, we’ll invite you wherever you like because we’ll be happy to have you. (applause)
IGNAZIO = They told us you’re afraid of flying, and then you like us, which is very strange (Il Volo = The Flight).
Since we think a moment together is essential, we’ve decided to give you a week-long vacation wherever you want. You don’t have to fly, you don’t have to worry, with your feet on the ground, you decide (he takes an envelope with the coupon). This is the trip, we want to offer you a trip, you and your wife, you have fun, you decide the place, where, when, why, be careful (all recommendations), there’s no flight, don’t worry, the spa… (laughter, applause)
MARIA = Annamaria, do you want to add anything?
ANNAMARIA = Yes. (to her husband) You have to promise me that from now on you’ll think more about yourself, that in the morning, as soon as you wake up, instead of asking me how I’m doing, think about how you’re doing. I will always be by your side, I will always be there, and we will always be together. We will never leave each other, because that’s exactly what Sara would have wanted, and from this evening on, we will face life even more united. I love you. (applause)
MARIA = (to Giuseppe) You have to answer her.
PIERO = Giuseppe, you have to answer, that really moved us all!
It’ll be difficult…
MARIA = He’ll do it whenever he wants…ok, let’s take the envelope off! (The envelope-wall is removed and now everyone can see each other. Kisses and hugs)
IGNAZIO = Wait, wait, it’s a ritual now, like every year, a hug all together!!! (applause)
MARIA = How sweet!!
ANNAMARIA = Thanks guys!!
Maria, I wanted to say something, if I may.
MARIA = Say it yourself
ANNAMARIA = I’d like to thank the National Cancer Institute, Pediatrics Department, in Milan (a center of excellence for these diseases) from the first to the last day. They pampered us, not just Sara, but us too: doctors, nurses, everyone! (applause)
MARIA = Good! (She kisses and hugs everyone, lastly Ignazio, to whom she says:) Hi Dad!
IGNAZIO = Hi Maria. As always, we want to thank you.
MARIA = Thank you.
IGNAZIO = Because, as always, you’re a crazy person because they see you through a camera, we see you outside.
MARIA = Thank you so much, thank you everyone.
IGNAZIO = Bye!
MARIA = Il Volo!!!
As always, our guys found the right words to address such a sad and moving story.
It’s hard to be appropriate, but once again, Il Volo showed us their humanity and understanding.
It was expected, we knew that at the end of 2024, and exactly at the end of November, Il Volo had also recorded this program, but it was not known when it would be published.
Finally a few days ago the announcement, Il Volo would be a guest on the last episode of the show hosted by Maria De Filippi: C’è Posta per te.
And I am here to give you my translation.
For those unfamiliar with the format, Maria chooses true stories that have been sent to her and tells them in the studio. In this case, she fulfills a daughter’s wish to give a thank-you gift to her parents for their support during a terrible illness.
MARIA= This is the story of a gift, let’s start with a video.
(A video starts from the direction that summarizes some moments of Il Volo’s career. While the song Who Wants To Live Forever is heard, the following text appears on the video:
“Even the most distant characters, if they share ideals and passions, can navigate together, creating an indissoluble bond……this is: Il Volo. Over 20 million copies sold worldwide.”)
GIANLUCA’S VOICE in video= We have always been performers but we have a message to send, we want to build our own repertoire, really understand who we are and Capolavoro is the beginning of this new project.
(On the video, the images of the Verona Arena full of people and the written words superimposed: 17 platinum records, 11 gold records, for over 15 years they have been singing on the most prestigious stages in the world.)
In each group there is a scale that maintains a balance. Piero and I are on the right and the left, the opposite poles.
IGNAZIO’S VOICE in the video = I am Mattarella (he is our President of Italy who must always maintain the balance. Laughter)
(The writings continue on the video: Four concert events at the Verona Arena. Record TV ratings. A world tour with 150 dates.)
MARIA = Il Volo!!
(Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio make their entrance amidst applause, elegant and dressed in dark suits and dark shirts, hugs and kisses to Maria.)
PIERO = But thank you! Good evening
IGNAZIO = Hello everyone, good evening. Are you all right?
GIANLUCA = Hello Maria.
MARIA = I think you are very good!
PIERO= I put on a tie for you tonight (Ignazio and Gianluca don’t have a tie).
MARIA= (to Ignazio) How is your wife?
IGNAZIO= She’s fine, we’re happy.
GIANLUCA= Look how much more cheerful he is now.
PIERO= For those who don’t know, he just got married.
IGNAZIO= We’re trying to give life to a new Boschettino (a son), let’s see if he’ll be born directly with a goatee!!
MARIA= Sit down over there.
(Maria makes them sit on a long sofa.)
I’ll let Millie in. (It’s the woman who sent the letter to Maria, Millie enters, a beautiful young woman.)
MILLIE= Hi Maria.
MARIA= Come in among them (among the boys)
PIERO= Come on, come on.
(Millie and Il Volo have already met and gotten to know each other backstage. Millie isundecided about where to sit and then sits between Ignazio and Piero.)
MILLIE= I stand here.
IGNAZIO= Ok.
(applause)
MARIA= Millie told me:
“I want to come to C’è Posta PerTe (You’ve Got Mail) for my parents. My parents gave me life twice and if it’s true that you can be reborn, I would like to be reborn in the same exact family, to have mom as mom and dad as dad.”
(At this point Maria reads a summary of Millie’s story)
It’s August 2022, she’s in Germany, she’s married, she’s there with her husband and her son has just been born.
She’s so tired, she can never recover and she keeps losing weight. At first she thinks it’s due to the birth and then she realizes that something is wrong. (Gianluca squeezes Millie’s hand).
She goes to the hospital and they give her the diagnosis, it’s in a foreign language, but she understands perfectly that she has a very large tumor.
She goes into a total panic and says: “I need mommy”.
She calls her mother, tells her what’s wrong and tells her that she’s coming to Italy.
She and her husband pack their bags and together with the little one go back to Puglia to mommy and daddy.
Her mother takes her to the hospital in Bari, the doctor tells her that she can’t have surgery, given the extent of the tumor. Her mother doesn’t lose heart, she changes hospital and changes doctor.
In the meantime Millie becomes more and more discouraged and decides to write four letters, one she writes to her son and it was the most difficult farewell letter because she apologized to her son for having to leave him perhaps alone, then she wrote one to her husband, one to her mother and one to her father. (Ignazio puts his hand on Millie’s shoulder).
Millie told me that she put the letters in a drawer and doesn’t know if her mother has read them, but one day her mother gets angry and yells at her that she has to react, she tells her that she has to look forward and that she has to do it for her son.
That sentence was very important to her because she started to believe that she could still live and so she started to fight.
She tore up the letters and started chemotherapy, her father accompanied her to do it, while her mother was always with her little one.
Millie told me: “I’ll do chemotherapy and shortly after we’ll go and see if the tumor has shrunk so that I can have surgery.”
But when they went for the check-up nothing had changed, at that point Millie was very discouraged, she didn’t understand anything anymore and she started to get angry with everyone, especially with her father, Millie told me that she treated him badly, and she wanted to apologize for this. In the evening her father often appeared at the door of Millie’s room and asked her if she was sleeping and she answered in a bad and arrogant way: “If you ask me it’s difficult for me to sleep.”
Millie did a year and a half of therapy and after this year and a half it was possible to have the surgery and everything was resolved. (applause)
Millie understands that everything is fine when after the operation she opens her eyes and sees her father and after a while she sees her father hugging the doctor.
She then returned to live in Germany with her husband and her son. She told me that there is no moment in which she does not think of saying THANK YOU to her parents and also SORRY for how she sometimes treated them.
Her parents are crazy about you (Il Volo), they always listen to you, every time you are on television they are there in front and so you are perfect!
And now let’s see the moment of the mail delivery! (applause)
(The format requires a postman to deliver an envelope to the recipient with an invitation to the show C’è Posta Per Te –You’ve Got Mail.)
In front of the sofa where Piero, Millie, Ignazio and Gianluca are sitting, there is a high dividing wall in the shape of a large envelope that opens at this point, there is a monitor on which a video starts where there is a postman.
POSTMAN = Hi Maria, we are in Manduria in the province of Taranto (they are cities in Puglia) to go and deliver your invitations to Mrs. Rosaria and Mr. Vincenzo. I’m going to look for them. (He leaves on his bicycle and some parts of the city of Manduria are seen on video. He arrives at Millie’s parents’ house who open the door to the house.)
Good evening, I’m looking for Mrs. Rosaria and Mr. Vincenzo.
ROSARIA = Yes, it’s me, nice to meet you.
VINCENZO = Nice to meet you.
POSTMAN= Nice to meet you (they shake hands).
Mrs. Rosaria, I know that you were born in July and I know that you graduated from the Lecce music conservatory. (These are simple questions to ascertain the identity of the person.)
ROSARIA= Yes.
POSTMAN= Instead, I know that Vincenzo was born in November and I know that you have been married for over thirty years.
VINCENZO= Yes, thirty-six.
POSTMAN= Congratulations. I officially deliver the invitations to you on behalf of Mrs. Maria De Filippi.
For Rosaria….(he delivers the invitation envelope).
ROSARIA= Thank you.
POSTMAN= For Vincenzo.
VINCENZO= Thank you!
POSTMAN= Do you know the program? So….(The recipients must give an answer……)
VINCENZO+ROSARIA= C’è Posta per te! (You’ve Got Mail) applause
MARIA= So, you stand there. (She indicates to Il Volo to get up and hide in the corner of the dividing wall. The wall has a monitor that can be seen from both sides of the wall. On one side is Millie and on the other side will sit Millie’s parents, but they do not see Il Volo. Applause.)
Are you okay? (Maria asks Millie)
MILLIE= Yes, yes, thank you!
MARIA= Giovanni (he’s the postman), have Mr. Vincenzo and Mrs. Rosaria accepted the invitation?
POSTMAN= Yes Maria, Mr. Vincenzo and Mrs. Rosaria have accepted the invitation and are here with us. You’re welcome! (Millie’s parents enter the studio, unaware of the whole surprise. Applause.)
ROSARIA= Hello Maria.
VINCENZO= Nice to meet you and thank you for everything. (They shake hands.)
MARIA= Nice to meet you, thank you! Have a seat. (They sit on the sofa on the opposite side of the dividing wall, which on their side is also shaped like a large envelope that is closed at this moment.)
Is everything okay? Are you nervous?
ROSARIA= A little nervous.
MARIA= Okay. We’ll see who’s sending you a call in a little while, then you watch and tell me if you want to listen. Is that okay? He (Vincenzo) is more nervous than you!
VINCENZO= No.
MARIA= Ok, let’s open it!
(The format requires that the envelope on the wall opens and the recipients see who sent them the invitation and can accept and let them speak or close the envelope and refuse. Applause.)
(Rosaria and Vincenzo see their daughter on the monitor and smile.)
MARIA= Has the nervousness passed a little? Can I let her speak?
ROSARIA+VINCENZO= Yes, yes.
MARIA= Go Millie!
MILLIE= Thank you. If by some absurd chance in another time or in another life they gave me the chance to choose my parents, I would always choose you two, always! (applause).
You are not just my parents, my mom and dad, but you are my heroes, because you gave me life and saved it over and over again, always with the strength of your love and I will never be grateful enough for this, just as I will never be grateful enough to the fate that brought you together, because if you are my parents, I owe it to your love story that began just like this.
(A group of children enters playing like a marching band. Two children hang two trumpets and a big heart on a wire high in the studio. The children leave the studio.)
MARIA= (She reads a very long letter with Millie’s words.) Blessed be the marching band of the city of Manduria. If you met and then fell in love, in fact, it is thanks to your passion for music and the fact that you found yourself playing side by side in our town band.
It must be said that at the beginning the more smitten one of the two was definitely dad, because mom was so focused on music, studying at the conservatory and her independence, that she didn’t think about love.
Blessed dad’s stubbornness, because it is thanks to his tenacity that two years after you met you got engaged. Dad was 19 and mom was only 15, but you, dad, were so convinced that she was the woman of your life that even then you brought her flowers for Mother’s Day and if someone asked you: “Why?”
You answered with conviction: “Because one day she will be the mother of my children”, in short you were moving forward.
And you were right, because step by step, your love took you to the altar and a year later I arrived.
Suddenly your life was full of everything you could wish for and your future was a wonderful descent towards happiness. Instead suddenly everything became a terrible mountain to climb that you, fortunately, never gave up on, not even for a moment.
(A piece of music begins, children enter carrying several blocks that look like pointed mountains. The children leave and leave the mountains in the study.)
You were young and inexperienced, suddenly you found yourself having to climb mountains after mountains without a guide to show you the path, without means, and with the weight of this daughter on your shoulders. I really don’t know how you did it, but you understood before the doctors that something was wrong with me, that the fever wasn’t a simple flu, but something more serious. When they told you that the only way to save my life was to take me to the hospital in the north (northern Italy), you didn’t lose heart and with the little money you had in your pocket, we set out in search of the best cure. That was the first time that, from simple parents who were sometimes inexperienced, you transformed yourselves into heroes, my heroes, capable of giving me life a second time. When everything was resolved, dad gave me a teddy bear, my Babbù, who has been with me ever since, reminding me of all the times I hold him close to my heart, that time you took me on your shoulders, climbed the mountains and carried me to safety.
(A music starts and a child enters and gives Millie’s parents a nice teddy bear.)
I can only imagine the sacrifices you made for me, sometimes I heard my mother say that those first years, at our house, were the time of soup and soufflés, because they were cheap and easily filling, but then she added that we were happy anyway as long as I was well.
I was doing very well, so much so that when you asked me if I wanted a little brother or sister, my answer was always the same: “Neither”, I was fine like that, perhaps I was afraid of losing my “state of grace”, but I didn’t know instead, that I would be even better with the arrival of my beloved brothers, Sabrina and Gregorio.
Our life was beautiful, made up of simple but for us extraordinary things, Sunday lunches, Christmas with relatives, holidays at Gardaland or Mirabilandia (two Italian amusement parks), all done to make us children happy.
We were so happy that, I assure you, packing my bags to move to Germany was one of the hardest things in my life. I missed everything, even things that may seem silly, like the smell of Mom’s fried eggplants or car trips with Dad spent chatting about everything that came to mind. My heart feels so empty that I never imagined that shortly thereafter it would burst with love for my husband and then for our beautiful baby Aleandro.
When he was born, everything seemed perfect to me, and I knew it would be even better when I came to Italy to introduce you to him.
What I didn’t know was that the weakness I carried inside me hid something that is hard to even pronounce. I was 32 years old, with a baby of a few months and a diagnosis that plunged me into the worst of nightmares.
That day in the doctor’s room I felt desperate, as if on the edge of a precipice, I didn’t think about it for a second and said: “I want to go to Mom and Dad, because my heart knew that if I hadn’t had you two by my side, I wouldn’t have saved myself from that precipice. (Applause.)
(A song begins and the children enter and hang three large IFs on the wire suspended high above the studio.)
IF I am here, IF I still have a life ahead of me, IF I can still watch my son smile, it is only thanks to you who with love and obstinacy have transformed the many IFs that make up my story, into the most beautiful of words: FUTURE.
If I had not decided to return to Puglia to have you by my side, I certainly would not have found the right treatments, the ones that ignited hope, even when hope seemed to be non-existent. You never gave up even when the first doctor I consulted told you that my chances of making it were very slim. I only learned this later, because you preferred not to tell me those words, and while you were taking on all that suffering on your own, you continued to look for a doctor who would decide to fight for me and you found a doctor who did not hide from us how serious the situation was but gave us a chance and you clung to that chance.
I was still so desperate that I started writing goodbye letters, one for you, one for my husband and one, the most difficult one for my child, in which I apologized for leaving him without his mother.
I don’t know if you, mother, found those letters, or if you understood that I was letting myself go, the fact is that one day you hugged me and angrily told me: “I know what you’re doing, you’re letting yourself go without thinking about your son and how much he needs you.”
Here’s another IF in this story, because mother, if that day you hadn’t taken me “hard on”, I would have slipped away from my own life. That day I understood that I had to fight for my son, just like you and dad were doing for me. From that moment I started to believe, I tore up those letters and I also started to hope and if I managed to grab my life in my hands, it’s only thanks to your love.
(A piece of music begins and the children enter and place lots of big red hearts on the blocks representing the mountains. Applause)
With your love, not only did you give me back my life again and again, but you also took care of my baby, whom you raised and cuddled more like parents than grandparents.
For months, when the therapies were really hard and I couldn’t even pick him up, you were my arms, my legs, my hands. When it was bath time, it was mommy who held him in the tub, mommy was always there to feed him and change his diaper, while you, dad, even if you came home tired from work, spent hours holding him by the little hands while he dared to take his first steps. You were truly fantastic with my baby, while I, on the other hand, was intractable, unfair, I took it out on you for everything, especially you, dad, who are the kindest person in the world and certainly didn’t deserve my outbursts, like when I woke up at night, I saw you at the door checking if I was okay. Of all my tantrums you never scolded me, on the contrary you justified me and moved on, I’m sorry dad and tonight I would like you to accept my apologies for all the times I hurt you with my words and for the pain you had to endure, because if there’s one thing I can’t forgive myself for it’s having hurt your heart so much.
(The music starts and two children carry a large bandaged heart that they hang high up in the studio. Applause.)
My illness and the months spent at my side have marked your soul but also your heart, especially your dad, no one can take it out of my head that if your heart got sick it was because of all the pain of all the worries I gave you and I will never stop feeling guilty about this.
When I finally got better and Aleandro and I returned to Germany, I understood how much you were afraid for me, because maybe you thought that if I felt sick you wouldn’t be by my side to take care of me. I’m sorry dad, I’m sorry for all the weight that you were forced to carry on your shoulders in these years.
But now the time has come to let go of the sorrows and worries because you will see that with a little luck for you and mom there will be no more mountains to climb but only happiness, joy and lots and lots of music, just like when you were young and played in the town band.
And since you may be a little rusty now when it comes to music, I asked three guys who are experts in the field to come over tonight and give you some lessons.
Look at the stairs in front of you because those three guys are about to hug you.
(The song Musica Che Resta starts and Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca finally appear on the stairs. The faces of Millie’s parents are excited. Millie and her parents send each other kisses. Il Volo descends the stairs amid applause.)
PIERO= Here we are. (Hugs and kisses between Il Volo and Millie’s parents.)
GIANLUCA= Hello.
IGNAZIO= Nice to meet you.
ROSARIA= Hello Piero, Gianluca, Ignazio.
VINCENZO= My wife knows you all very well.
PIERO= Can I sit next to your wife?
IGNAZIO= In whose arms should I sit? (laughter – they sit in this order: Ignazio, Piero, Rosaria, Vincenzo and Gianluca.)
You have a truly spectacular daughter, we had a little chat with her and you can tell she’s one of those daughters who is very proud of her parents, as we are a little, because for us family has always been a cornerstone of our career and of our life together as the three of us. From what we’ve heard of your story and from what Millie told us, you really are the concept of family, the concept of parents, the perfect example. (Applause.)
VINCENZO= Thank you!
GIANLUCA= If I may add, this story has taught us all that we watch and “C’è posta per te” is a special program precisely for this reason, because it reminds us in its precariousness of how precious life is, how happiness teaches us lightheartedness, but also pain teaches us life (applause), and how important health is, while we persist in chasing material goods and how this miracle of living, family, affection, giving love and receiving love, are truly the most important things in life.
So thank you for this, because you remind us all of it with your strength and we hope to have been close to you a little with our music in difficult moments. (Applause.)
VINCENZO = Thank you, yes, yes.
ROSARIA = Always, thank you to all three of you.
PIERO = (to Vincenzo) I know you cheered so much when we won Sanremo, someone told us.
VINCENZO= We have been following you since you were kids.
IGNAZIO= Piero also cheered on stage.
PIERO= As far as I’m concerned, being parents is difficult, you have a big task, that of showing us education, but at a certain point in life you have to let us fly, you have to let us go away to pursue our vocation, to pursue our dreams, but the most important thing for us and Millie is the demonstration, it is knowing inside us that we have a “safe harbor”, in any turbulence of life we know where to go and you have been very good at this. (Applause.)
IGNAZIO= And then Maria, I don’t know if you know that Piero and I sometimes text each other and I ask him what he’s doing and he says to me: “I’m looking at Maria, I’m crying, we’ll talk later.” (Because Maria’s stories are always touching. Laughter.) Really! I’m not exaggerating.
VINCENZO= Will you pass him the tissues?
IGNAZIO= Yes, yes!
GIANLUCA= But I have a little thought if I may. (He has a small jewelry box in his hand.) This is for you.
PIERO= This is for her (Rosaria).
GIANLUCA= I meant that he’s not the only one.
PIERO= Explain better.
So, (he opens the box) this is a necklace……
GIANLUCA= I was doing it!!
PIERO= You keep the box. (Piero puts on the long chain that has a violin key pendant with a diamond.) Here is the diamond, here. (applause)
ROSARIA = Thank you.
PIERO = (to Ignazio) And you?
IGNAZIO = I have the little present I’m going to get it. So, since I know that music unites us……where do I go? (He pushes a cart with the gifts on it.)
Music unites us and so I know that you also have a grandson (he is holding a small toy trumpet) and so what better way to start introducing him to music and here in front (in the wide part of the trumpet, there is a cap) underneath there will be written a sum of money that we want you to have to go to Germany whenever you want to go to Millie. (Applause.)
Here is the sum, if you turn it over you can read it in private and this is yours.
ROSARIA + VINCENZO = Thank you! (Applause.)
PIERO= You met in a musical context, I know you were in the town band and you were lucky that you chose each other, the three of us didn’t choose each other, they put us together (laughter) this is the difference between us and you. (Applause.)
IGNAZIO= Did you hear that it was a difficult choice?
ROSARIA= But it was an excellent choice.
PIERO= Who, him? (Vincenzo)
ROSARIA= No, you three…..
PIERO= Of course not? (Everyone laughs because Rosaria had answered thinking of Il Volo and not her husband.)
ROSARIA= Him, yes, but you three, excellent choice and never let go of each other’s hands!
PIERO= No! You know, before going on stage, but even here before entering the studio, the last thing we do before going on stage is this (Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca shake hands together, an affectionate and superstitious gesture that they always do. Applause.)
ROSARIA= Here, well done!
PIERO= Before going on stage and doing the concerts and to stay on the topic of concerts, he gave the gift (Gianluca), he gave the gift (Ignazio) now my gift, the most beautiful one. (He takes two passes from inside his jacket.) So, here are two passes for our concerts….(Aapplause.)
ROSARIA= Wow!!!
PIERO= You only have to do one thing, decide the city and the concert you want to attend, you are always our guests.
GIANLUCA= Even in Australia if you want. (Applause.)
MARIA= Ok, Millie it’s your turn.
MILLIE= Mom and Dad, before opening this envelope (she intends to remove the big envelope-wall that separates them), I need to make you a promise, something that is very important to me.
I want to promise you that I will start my studies again, I will get a second degree, (applause) to be able to start a career that will make you proud of me.
ROSARIA= But we already are. (Applause.)
MILLIE= But in exchange I need you two to make me two very important promises.
The first is for Dad: Dad you have to stop turning on the sports channel when Aleandro is watching cartoons (laughter).
The second one is for Mom, this one is also very important: Mom, please don’t do it again, don’t break the spaghetti before cooking it because it’s sacrilege! (laughter – Ignazio’s horrified face is beautiful.)
MARIA= So promises made, I’ll remove the wall! (the music starts, the envelope-wall slides back and finally the parents and Il Volo meet and hug with Millie.)
MARIA= (to Vincenzo) Nice to meet you.
VINCENZO= Thanks for everything.
IGNAZIO= I like hugs if you give me another one….laughter.
MARIA= (she kisses the boys) Il Volo!!
Backstage at the show, Witty TV gave Il Volo an envelope containing some photos and Il Volo had to remember those moments.
WITTY= Let’s browse through the memory album with the guys from Il Volo and retrace some of the moments that have marked their lives.
PIERO= Should we open the envelope?
PHOTO 1: Gianluca Piero and Ignazio sitting for an instore, really young.
GIANLUCA= This was in Rome, it was our first book signing ever, there were 23 people.
PIERO= What do you mean 23 people?
IGNAZIO= With our relatives.
GIANLUCA= Yes, with the relatives there were 23 people.
PHOTO 2: Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio sitting at the back of a motorboat in Venice, all three dressed in black trousers, white shirt, black vest and bow tie.
PIERO= Ah this is beautiful. Venice 2021 and we also put this photo on the cover of our latest book.
PHOTO 3: Piero at the marathon.
PIERO= Oh how beautiful, this is the New York marathon, 2023, last year (this video was recorded in November 2024). I trained for a year for this marathon and I’ll tell you something else, we were in Greece in Athens and Ignazio says to me: “If you place under 25 thousand I’ll buy you dinner.” I placed at 19 thousand and he still has to buy me dinner.
PHOTO 4: Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio smiling and very young.
GIANLUCA= Here we were in Germany during the promotion of our first album in Europe. We were 16, Piero maybe 17.
PIERO= No, maybe we were 20.
GIANLUCA= No, here it was 2011, we’ve known each other for a long time, eh.
PHOTO 5: Ignazio sitting on an armchair and Michelle in a white lace dress dries his hair.
PIERO= This is what Ignazio comments on.
GIANLUCA= What is it, let me see?
IGNAZIO= It was a few hours before the civil wedding.
PHOTO 6: Gianluca and Ernesto very young, both on a carousel horse.
GIANLUCA= This is my brother Ernesto, the most important person.
PIERO= More important than us?
GIANLUCA= Yes, come on, just a little!
PHOTO 7: All three with the orange shirt.
PIERO= Oh this is nice, here we were in Canada, wait what was that place called?
IGNAZIO= We were in Vancouver if I’m not mistaken.
PIERO= In Vancouver and they gave us these shirts, because there in the arenas instead of basketball they play hockey on the ice.
PHOTO 8: Victory at Sanremo 2015.
IGNAZIO= And then, last photo, Sanremo.
GIANLUCA= The victory at the Festival with Grande Amore and that was also one of the most important moments of our career.
I won’t deny that a few tears fell from my eyes while I was translating this long and moving story of Millie and her parents.
The words expressed by Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero are beautiful, as always they demonstrate their maturity and their beautiful feelings.
The gifts they gave to this family are very beautiful.
The series of photos from Il Volo with their comments is nice.
This time I also described many details to help those who don’t have the opportunity to see what happens.
Write to me your opinions on this beautiful story.
On Saturday 24 February, Il Volo was a guest on “C’è posta per te”, a show on Canale 5, hosted by Maria De Filippi.
For those who don’t know the format, I’ll give a brief summary.
There are people who, for any reason, have argued in life and when one of the litigants wants to get closer to the other person, write to Maria and explain what happened due to the separation. Maria sends a postman to the contact person with an invitation to the program, without explaining who sends the invitation. When the person accepts and comes to the studio, finds himself in front of a large closed envelope and from a video he sees who sent him the invitation. At this point can decide to listen to the person who asked you and then let them speak. Maria mediates in all of this, trying to act as a bridge between the two people. In the end the person who listened can decide to open the envelope (i.e. meet the person who spoke), or close the envelope and leave without meeting the other person.
There are also people who write to give a gift to a very dear person, to thank them for their dedication, and this is the case in which Il Volo intervened, as a surprise for Mrs. Anna, who was called on the show, by her sons, to thank her for her affection and availability towards them.
Anna became a widow in 2017 and her children decided to write to the program: “Our mother always says that she can’t be happy because dad is no longer with her”, theirs was a love story that lasted many years, and which was interrupted by his death.
I attach the entire video of the story, as you notice Il Volo entered at the beginning, preceded by a beautiful video that summarizes some beautiful moments of the concerts and their career. After greetings with Maria who admires Ignazio’s physical form, our boys reach their place and Anna’s two sons enter. At this point there is a long introduction of the various moments of Anna and her husband’s life and then Anna sees Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio and is very happy, they are her favorite singers.
I start translating just before Il Volo meets Anna. Click on the link below to view the video.
MARIA= (she reads the sentences written by Anna’s sons) You and dad taught us that even if you have little, life gives you a lot, when there is love, or rather a great love, just like yours, and to make sure the concept is clear to you, we asked some experts on the topic, whom you admire so much that you consider them relatives, or rather grandchildren. Mom, look at the ladder in front of you, prepare without guilt to be happy.
(applause, the song MUSICA CHE RESTA begins, Anna understands and is very excited, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio go down the ladder. Hugs and kisses)
ANNA= My love. Hello, my grandchildren!!😍😍😍
IGNAZIO= How are you?
GIANLUCA= We didn’t know we had another grandmother, today we know!
ANNA= Of course, you are my grandchildren! 😍😍😍
MARIA= It’s a grandmother in common.
IGNAZIO= No, no!!
MARIA= No? It’s yours?
ANNA= My love, how beautiful you are!😍😍😍😍
IGNAZIO= I learned that the lady has a weakness for me, so!!🥰😂
GIANLUCA= She has a weakness.
PIERO= You have always been the grandmothers’ favorite.
ANNA= No, no, not this time, you are all three the same.
PIERO= Can we address each other on first terms? (In the Italian language, you speak in the third person to people you don’t know).
ANNA= Yes, of course, I’m your grandmother!
GIANLUCA= Of course, so you have to talk to grandma!
MARIA= Gianluca, everyone sit down.
IGNAZIO= Let’s sit down.
PIERO= Listening to this story is incredible because today we talk a lot about education, perhaps our hectic life doesn’t allow us… (meanwhile Anna kisses Ignazio and Gianluca 😘, not to be less, she kisses Piero 😘😂 people laugh )…..but will you stop? I’m trying to say something serious……. (applause) .
MARIA= Come on Piero, you were making a serious speech.
PIERO= Today perhaps the hectic life we live does not allow parents to dedicate a lot of time to the education of their children, so we feel privileged people and I believe and hope there is still a lot of hope because you Anna and her husband, with the story that we listened to, you demonstrated education to your children, you demonstrated value, affection, and this is the result, with your smile. (applause).
It is with these stories, which are really rare to hear, that we should stop and understand what the small daily gestures are that make you understand what happiness is.
ANNA= Nothingness made us happy, nothingness.
IGNAZIO= If I can say one thing, I had the same experience as your children, unfortunately, I lost my dad…..
ANNA= I know, I know, I know everything.
IGNAZIO= You know everything, I’ll keep quiet (laughter), no, but…. with my mother we learned that love never ends, even if a person goes away, even if a person is no longer in our life, it’s not true that it no longer exists, because it exists in everything, in every gesture, in every sensation…..so love never ends, and you think that the people who love us, they can’t wait to see us happy, and only if we are happy, they are happy. (applause)
ANNA= You know, 44 years old, it’s 44 years (Anna and her husband have been married for 44 years, applause)
IGNAZIO= I know, but life goes on.
PIERO= (to Anna) Wait, wait, after such a beautiful speech I want to see what he (Gianluca) has to say to you.
GIANLUCA= Oh, me?
IGNAZIO= Give her a sexy face.
ANNA= No, not me, what does it have to do with it?
GIANLUCA= If I can add one thing, I believe that in some way we have always known each other…..
ANNA= Always….
GIANLUCA= And so we are happy to keep you company even in moments of discouragement, to give you that extra strength that can allow you to face the days….
ANNA= My children know, when you are around, everything stops at home…
GIANLUCA= We are happy with this role of making you happy. (appaluse)
PIERO= You haven’t opened this package yet, okay, first Ignazio has to give you something.
IGNAZIO= We thought we’d give you this bag.
ANNA= Thank you!
PIERO= It’s a travel bag.
IGNAZIO= A travel bag, why this travel bag?
PIERO= Inside this package, there is a pass to come to our concerts….
ANNA= Thank you!!!!
PIERO= You decide which one. In Italy or outside Italy, wherever you want!
GIANLUCA= If you want, you can also come on tour with us, you can go around the world…
ANNA= I would go!! With all of you, yes. (laughs)
IGNAZIO= What do your grandchildren say? (he turns to Anna’s children) I’ll talk to you when we get back.
GIANLUCA= See you in eight months!
ANNA= If my nephews let you pass!
PIERO= Of course.
GIANLUCA= Wait, then you cook for us?
ANNA= Yes!
IGNAZIO= A very important question, is it arancino or arancina? (Sicilian specialty consisting of a ball of rice with ragù inside, very good)
ANNA= Love, it’s arancino! (depending on the areas of Sicily it is called arancino or arancina)
IGNAZIO= (does not approve and puts his hand on his heart, people laugh)
ANNA= Let’s not argue, in Palermo it’s arancina, in Catania it’s called arancino and we all agree.
IGNAZIO= So, I’m your arancino! (laughs) 😂
ANNA=Okay! You all are my loves! 🥰
PIERO= This year we are celebrating 15 years of our career…. there is no reason to applaud, imagine 15 years of the two of us (him and Gianluca) together with that subject (Ignazio. laughter)
ANNA= But you’re not even joking. (she means that he is also part of the gang)
PIERO= But is he really your favourite?
GIANLUCA= Of course!
ANNA= All three (Ignazio touches her arm) yes, yes it’s him!
PIERO= We can’t do anything about it.
MARIA= Look, I know that her favorite is Ignazio!
GIANLUCA= Make sure we don’t get offended (but Piero tries to get up and leave) Look, he’s my favorite too.
ANNA= When they sing, I stop. Ignazio sings and I am enchanted (Ignazio kneels) He (Piero) sings and it’s wonderful!
He (Gianluca) sings and it’s wonderful! They make me die. All three together are unique.
IGNAZIO= So let’s do this like this…..(and he sings the chorus of Il Mondo)
ANNA= I know that the whole world loves you, as I love you.
PIERO= But you have to make the promise to us too, you have to promise your children that you will never lose this smile which is enchanting.
ANNA= Thanks, but I feel guilty smiling.
IGNAZIO= I play the part of Mary: “Shall we open the envelope or not?”
MARIA= Wait Ignazio, Lorenza (Anna’s daughter) is here and she wants to say something and then I’ll ask her.
LORENZA= So, as you can see, life surprises us, so there will be no shortage of other beautiful things in our lives, let’s hope. We promise to never leave you alone and to always be there, but you must promise to rejoice and no longer have this sense of guilt. You have to do it for dad, because dad wanted this, he wanted you happy and you have to be happy. I love you mom. ❤️
ANNA=Me too!
MARIA= So….
IGNAZIO= Shall we open the envelope or not?
ANNA= Yes, yes!
MARIA= Let’s open and promise!
ANNA= ….. I promise.
IGNAZIO= Do you promise?
ANNA= I promise.
MARIA= Let’s open the envelope. (hugs between Anna and her sons) You would have spent hours chatting with Il Volo!
ANNA= Yes, yes!
IGNAZIO= However, I haven’t had grandparents for a while, if you want to be a rented grandmother, if possible (laughter)
ANNA= Of course!
SON= She would be happy!
Final greetings and hugs. 🥰🥰🥰
I don’t know what to say regarding the presence of Il Volo, Piero Ignazio and Gianluca seemed like this to me – polite, sensitive, loving, affectionate and even sportingly elegant, this is my opinion, it’s a shame that they didn’t sing, but they told me that no guest sings on this show. 🥰🥰🥰
While they were backstage at the show, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca were asked a really fun question game, on their ability… Good fun. 😂
GIANLUCA= Let’s delve deeper into Il Volo’s abilities.
PIERO= Let’s hope.
IGNAZIO= (to Piero) I hope they will never give you a television program, I swear to you.
PIERO= (He reads the questions) DO YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A SEXY LOOK?
IGNAZIO= He’s the attendant (Gianluca), look sexy!
GIANLUCA= I’m the one who looks sexy in the group, I don’t sing!
IGNAZIO= Do it. (Gianluca looks and Ignazio continues reading the questions)
Who knows how to kiss better?
IGNAZIO= Me, because I have a goatee.
PIERO= For him, the goatee is an added feature!
IGNAZIO= DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS…. (and he reads a sentence in Neapolitan dialect)
PIERO= (tries to translate) The mouse said to the walnut…..
GIANLUCA= He (Ignazio) had a girlfriend from Campania, you should know how to translate.
IGNAZIO= (He tries to make sense of the translation) Is there an animal, a squirrel? Said the caterpillar near the nut…
PIERO= Says the caterpillar…..
GIANLUCA= ….give me time to pierce it…..as if to say that everything comes to those who know…..
PIERO= …..wait…
GIANLUCA= …no waiting,….. those who are determined over time.
IGNAZIO= WHO CAN BOX BETTER? I also took the lesson with ….. (they give him a punching game and he does it)
GIANLUCA= Let’s move on.
IGNAZIO= WHO CAN DO BEATBOX BETTER? Me.
PIERO= He. (Ignazio)
GIANLUCA= He (Ignazio) is the jewel of the group. (Piero and Ignazio doing beatbox)
IGNAZIO=WHO OF YOU CAN RAP BETTER? (and immediately Ignazio says a phrase in rapper and he does it very well) sorry…
WHO OF YOU WANTS TO GET AN AUTOGRAPH WITH THE LEFT HAND? Gianluca.
GIANLUCA= This is with the right (then he writes it with the left) my goodness, it’s incredible, it almost came out better with the left.
IGNAZIO= Right….(he signs with both hands)
PIERO= This is the right (his signature) and this is the left (he made a nice X, everyone laughs)
IGNAZIO= DO YOU KNOW WHO GREETS YOU? This worries me a little….do you know who greets you? No!
PIERO= You know who greets you….WHO!
IGNAZIO= You say it.
And finally a beautiful review of the evening of covers and explained very well with technical terms, needless to say that this young Italian vocal coach Giacomo Rossini who puts IL Volo in first place, according to his ranking!!
You can turn on the subtitles, Il Volo is the last to be reviewed in this video.
Enjoy these beautiful words of esteem for Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca!!
I thanked Giacomo Rossini for the wonderful review and told him that his beautiful words are going around the world on Il Volo fan pages. ❤️
And now, if you want to have a laugh, watch this video, the translation is already set with clear subtitles.
Il Volo is hosted by The Jackal, three boys and a girl, they are comedians who always produce very funny short videos. In this case the girl admits that she knows Il Volo because her grandmother likes it and therefore they call her grandmother on the phone live. Grandma’s answers were beautiful!! 😂😂😂
In this video however, listen to how well Gianluca sings CAPOLAVORO solo.
Fantastic Gianluca! ❤️
And after listening to CAPOLAVORO, I want to show you this video of GRANDE AMORE, I really enjoyed seeing this choral performance, made by young singers from a Prague choir who sing in Italian: well done!! 🥰
Well, that’s all for now, tell me your impressions on what I proposed and we’ll talk soon, because Il Volo will be a guest on Fiorello’s morning show.
On Saturday 4 February, Il Volo was a guest on the “C’è posta per te” program hosted by Maria De Filippi (she also hosts Amici) on Canale 5.
It was a very long episode and Il Volo was the guest of the last story, therefore it was broadcast immediately after midnight. So it was a long wait, but it was worth it, beyond what the program is, for many considered a tearjerker, the presence of our boys was remarkable. 😘
In the long translation I have omitted nothing, not even the long letters from the daughters that Maria has read, making our sweet boys wait. I also tried to explain how the format of this program works, putting explanations in brackets that could help you understand.😉
I’m sure you will like it a lot. Happy viewing and happy reading to all of you.
The video begins with Maria de Filippi introducing a video.
MARIA= Let’s start with a film.
(A video starts with the inscription: Piero, Gianluca, Ignazio, the singing artists that the world envies us, Il Volo, 14 years of success).
PIERO in the video= Now we are really three brothers.
GIANLUCA in the video = We grew up together, a truly unique alchemy was created.
IGNAZIO in the video = Our goal has always been to bring the Italian tradition, through music, to more stages and different cultures.
GIANLUCA in the video = You have to persevere, because you can truly reach the furthest dream. We believed it and we still believe it and we are dreaming, truly hoping to continue and be together for many more years.
(the inscription appears on the video: Great success Christmas in Jerusalem)
IGNAZIO in the video= During World Youth Day, we had the honor of singing for Pope Francis.
PIERO in the video = It’s an emotion that we will tell our grandchildren, that we will tell for the rest of our lives.
(On the video the inscription: We are three completely different personalities, and this is precisely our strength)
MARIA= Il Volo, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca. (Applause welcomes the entrance of the three singers)
MARIA= You are very elegant. ☺
PIERO= Hello. We agreed (on what to wear – hugs and kisses)
IGNAZIO= I couldn’t introduce myself, inelegant. 😁
MARIA= (to Ignazio) You are in perfect shape.
IGNAZIO= I’m trying, after two years of stopping, I’m starting again to …..
MARIA= I really mean it, since I last saw you you’re…..
IGNAZIO = Thank you! Then I believe it. 😁
MARIA= Look, then I have an eye in calculating the weight, you’ve dropped at least 5 kilos.
IGNAZIO= It could be, you know!
MARIA= You look great. 😉
IGNAZIO= Thank you. (visibly pleased and also embarrassed) ❤
MARIA= (turning to Piero and Gianluca) Excuse me, but it was right to compliment him.
IGNAZIO= I’m happy about it, but you must know (addressing the audience) that her favorite is Piero, so…..(laughter) 😁
MARIA= (She puts her hand on Piero’s shoulder and says to Ignazio) What a nuisance you are. 😁
PIERO= He always falls there…
MARIA= And they suffer…..
PIERO= Eh, they’re jealous….😁
MARIA= Gianluca minus, it’s Ignazio…..
GIANLUCA= It’s Ignazio, he always says so ….
IGNAZIO= She is the most envied woman in Italy (there was a time when the newspapers named Maria that way), she loves Piero and I’m a little jealous. (Maria kisses Piero, applause) 😁
MARIA= Sit down,
I let Valentina and Simona in.
(Maria introduces the two women who sent the request to the program, the girls have already met Il Volo backstage)
Valentina and Simona are here for their dad. When I met Valentina she told me:
“In April (2022) we lost mom, we don’t want to lose dad too. I feel bad, I feel like crying and the same thing goes for my sister, every time dad tells us this sentence.
– You two go ahead for your girls, it makes no sense for me to continue staying here, I want to go to my mother and join her –
The love between my father and my mother was a special love, a unique love, there was never a quarrel, they lived in symbiosis, I can tell you that mom was dad’s only woman, and dad was only man in mom’s life.
It’s September 2021 when mom starts having a cough, the doctors give her syrup, in January this cough is insistent, actually worsened, so a CT scan is done, a diagnosis is made shortly thereafter, and the diagnosis is horrible. Mom has emergency surgery, mom has fluid in her lungs, mom loses 20 kilos, mom ends up in a wheelchair. The doctors talked, mom understood what was happening and what was going to happen, I too, dad didn’t.
Dad kept saying mom would get better, and the doctors said so too.
Mom is always in the hospital, but once she manages to get out, and that time she’s not in the wheelchair, she’s standing and me, my sister and dad, we even take her on a trip. She was hospitalized in Milan, we live in Sardinia, before she was hospitalized again, I have to go back to Sardinia because of commitments with my little girls. I talk to mom, that day we hug, mom says this sentence to me: -Please take care of Dad and Aunt Betty too – We take two photographs and they will be the last two photos I have with mum.
Shortly thereafter, the hospital calls me and tells me that mom is no longer here. (Ignazio rests his hand on the girl’s shoulder). ❤
Dad always looks at mom’s pictures, dad listens to mom’s voicemails every night and keeps telling us he wants to join her. Both my sister and I look at the photographs, both my sister and I listen to mum’s messages, we miss mum too, but if life has taken mum from us, at least let dad stay with us.”
(Now Maria turns to Il Volo). You are here because, despite your young age, to help in such a circumstance …. because they respect you so much, including their mum and dad too. 😘
Let’s see the mail delivery. (The external video begins, which demonstrates that the message in a sealed envelope is delivered to the interested party. Whoever receives it cannot open the envelope and to accept it must say the phrase: There is an email for you.)
POSTMAN= Hi Maria, today I’m in Villaspeciosa, a town in the province of Cagliari, to deliver your invitation to Mr. Gianfranco. I go!
I’m Giovanni, the postman from You’ve Got Mail, I’m looking for Mr. Gianfranco.
GIANFRANCO= It’s me.
POSTMAN= Very pleased, Signor Gianfranco. I think I have an invitation from Mrs. Maria De Filippi for you. (Now the postman always asks a couple of questions to understand if he is really the person he is looking for) I know that you were born in January.
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
POSTMAN= And I also know that he worked as a school operator.
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
POSTMAN= Ok, then I’ll give you the invitation from Mrs. Maria De Filippi. At the end of a delivery we always say one thing:
GIANFRANCO= There’s mail for you! (applauded)
MARIA= So, you three stand there, you move there. (Maria hides Il Volo next to the envelope, so that Gianfranco does not see them)
Are you ready? (to the girls) So….. Giovanni (the postman).
POSTMAN= Yes, Maria.
MARIA= Mr. Gianfranco did accept the invitation?
POSTMAN = Yes, Maria, Mr. Gianfranco has accepted the invitation and is here with us. Please. (applause, Mr. Gianfranco enters).
GIANFRANCO= Good evening, Signora Maria.
MARIA= How are you? You take a seat.
(Dad Gianfranco sits down, the envelope is closed and he doesn’t see who is on the other side.)
MARIA= We can use TU, Gianfranco is it ok? (For the Italian language it is not polite, even if it is now very common, to talk to a person you know little using TU =YOU, for Italian it is more polite to use LEI, but nowadays everyone uses TU).
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
MARIA= So, soon we’ll see who sends for you (The envelope is opened and the protagonist sees who sent him the invitation who must not speak at that moment. Once the protagonist sees who invited him, he can decide whether to make him talk or not).
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
MARIA= You look and then you tell me if you want to listen. Are you agitated?
GIANFRANCO= A little. It’s normal.
MARIA= Right. We opened the envelope.
GIANFRANCO= Yes. (the envelope is opened and Gianfranco sees the two daughters, there is emotion, applause)
MARIA= Don’t we leave them in silence?
GIANFRANCO= No, no, sure.
MARIA= Please.
VALENTINA= Dad, since mom is gone, we see so much sadness in your eyes, and this hurts us so much. We know well the suffering you find, because it is the same that we feel too. Hearing you say certain things makes our hearts ache, because even if we are adults, we still need you so much. (appaluses) ❤
SIMONA= Dad we miss you so much, even Martina (granddaughter) who isn’t here with us today, but you know she loves you madly. It’s difficult for us too and please dad, you have to react. If you can’t do it for yourself and us, do it for mom. What she could not do, we will do together (applause). Remember that all of this is what mom would have wanted. ❤
(Children enter, scattering leaves on the floor where lanterns are lit)
MARIA= (She reads the thoughts of Gianfranco’s daughters) We can find her in our prayers, in the memories that everyone keeps in their hearts, but if we want to embrace her we can’t do it anymore. Instead you dad, luckily, you’re still here, we can see you and hug you as many times as we want. Yes, you’re here, but since that very sad April morning when the call from the hospital matron came, it’s as if you weren’t here anymore either.
For months your heart has been covered in a layer of pain, like the forest in winter, when it’s covered in leaves. If before you were the chatterbox of the house, now you are always silent, sleep little, eat little, live to visit mom at the cemetery.
Sometimes we find you in the garage crying, or in the bedroom, with the red jacket and her brush in your hands. Not to mention all the times you abandon yourself on the sofa to listen to her voice stored on your cell phone a thousand times, and afterwards you find no peace, on the contrary, you feel melancholy and the pain of living growing, because you reproach yourself for not having insisted on mother’s medical check-ups, which she put off because of the cost.
You say you should have done more, and you are convinced that if she hadn’t been in the hospital, but at home with you, maybe she would still be with us. Unfortunately it’s not like that dad, the disease would have taken her away anyway, you don’t need to live guilt that you don’t have. Your beautiful eyes that used to always laugh, are now dull and sad and what’s worse is that they have stopped being curious about the lives of the people around you. We know you love us dearly, but lately you’ve been repeating that it doesn’t make sense for you to be in the world anymore, that we have to go on for our girls and that you just want to join mom where she went. But you still have a reason to live dad, just look up and address it to us. We too are always your little girls, Martina is missing tonight, but with her heart she is here beside us, we are blood of your blood and we are the best you and mum could have done together. We have brought you here, because we hope that an evening like this will be able to rekindle that little flame inside you which is called “the will to live”, even if we are adults, we need to find comfort in your arms and to draw strength from your words. You and mom were a special couple, between you only jokes, kisses, hugs and kindness, but every time you tell us that you would like to go to her, we end up crying, because you know how sorry you cause us and in fact you always apologize to us, before retiring to your room.
Death is something that affects all human beings, dad, that day will come too, but now it’s early, you have to be strong, we’re here to protect you from the cold and shelter you from sadness, as if we were your umbrella. You are only 62, your place is next to us. (applause – children enter carrying rain protected by umbrellas)
Dad, you feel lost without a horizon, but we’re here to remind you who you are. You are our example, you are our lighthouse, you are our guide, now more than ever we ask you to stand together and move forward, that there is a life waiting for you. If mom were in the world, she wouldn’t waste a single minute. Do as she would, listen to our words, and allow yourself to be comforted by our love. You are a wonderful father who dedicated his life to his family, now it’s your family that wants to dedicate itself to you. You are not a burden to anyone, you just have to agree to lean on us when you feel that you can’t do it alone.
Over time, our happy scenes will return, the fishing trips together, the walks in the mountains looking for mushrooms, and why not, there will also be moments of recollection to look at mum’s photos and if we feel like crying, we will on each other’s shoulders. It will take time, and no one rushes you, but we promise you that if you know how to look for it, you too will come back to see the sun and the rainbow too, the desire to get up in the morning to make your bed or play tricks on someone will come back, on us, as you always have.
We understand that your life without mum is over, but also that a new time can begin with us, one full of surprises and emotions. Please dad, don’t let the dark win, send away the bad thoughts and let only the good ones in from now on. (applause – the children come in and bring the sun).
We never told you, but really thank you dad, because you made us live life in color, even if we never sailed in gold at home, you and mom never made us miss anything, from material things to warm hugs. When summer came, we little girls would see everyone at the beach and not to be less, you would take us too, then you would take advantage of it to fish and sell the little fish and make some money, or you would stop with mum to pick oranges and also sell those to round up (make some money).
It took you a lifetime to pay off your home loan, and you must be proud of yourself, because you have always been an honest man, a smiling father, a husband with a quick answer and full of passion. Now you even give up going fishing with the excuse that there’s no more mom to cook fish, actually the two of us at the stove cooking fish are a disaster, the face you made this Christmas says a lot, when we managed to burn the whole dinner. You couldn’t believe it, but deep down, you can’t deny that we always put our hearts into it, like you taught us. You are the one who, when the harvest period arrived, came back with the small tractor full of grapes, while we waited for you next to the basin in the garden, with bare feet and laughing like crazy. You are the one who went around the rooms at night to check that we were well covered and kissed us on the forehead. You are the one who when Simona broke up with her husband, you ran to get her and the baby and brought them home to mom and told her not to worry, that you would take care of everything. You are the one who, when I had a little too pressing a suitor, came down under the house, and faced him with a hard face, and he disappeared in a second.
You’re the one who didn’t love animals, and who now takes care of mom’s cats, with such dedication that we’re even jealous. You are the one who taught us to ride a bike without wheels, to drive a car, to do a thousand other things.
In the name of all this, we will never give up on you. We’re here to help you find a little glow in all this winter, because we miss you and because we would like to come back to see you laughing like you did when there was mom who called you Frankie and made fun of you, because she said you were a little goofy, that you were obsessed with order and washing your hands every five minutes. We’re waiting for you dad, but without hurry, your smiles will come back when you feel like doing them, meanwhile with your permission, we’ll carry on, and we’ll start to turn on some light and joy right now. (applause – children enter carrying balloons of light)
It’s true that we’re here to ask you to make a great effort, because it’s hard for you to take your life back, but in return we’re ready to make important promises to you. We have the habit of arriving perpetually late, you rightly get annoyed and tonight we promise you it won’t happen again.
Do you believe it? Nod your head yes or no. (Dad nods yes)
GIANFRANCO= Yes, I believe it.
MARIA= Ok. (applause). I, who am Valentina, I promise you that I won’t get distracted anymore when I’m driving and every time I almost touch the mirrors of other cars, and you’re fine attached to the door handles, terrified that we’re going to crash. If you believe it, do yes with your head. (dad nods yes)
I promise you I’ll learn to count to ten, instead of talking right away without thinking, you’ve always told me, I never learn. If you believe in it, nod your head. (dad nods yes) 😘
Now it’s my turn dad, I’m Simona, I ask your forgiveness dad if I’m a landslide in the kitchen, like the other night when I took the vegetables out of the oven and they slipped on the floor and we’ve made up for it with the salad, give me time and you’ll see one day you will be proud of me.
If you believe in it, nod your head. (dad nods yes) 😘
Dad, you and I are shy, and for this reason we hug little or nothing. From this evening I promise you that our hugs will be too many, and that maybe you won’t be able to anymore, but maybe you’ll understand that, you are everything, but not a burden to us. Now to show you that life is anything but certain, do you want to make the last bet with us?
With mom we would have won for sure, but if you think of her and see them (Il Volo), you’ll see that a beautiful smile will return. All you have to do is look at the ladder in front of you. (the music of Grande Amore starts, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio, they descend the stairs, applause) 😘😘😘
(Big kisses and hugs from Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio to Gianfranco, who reciprocates with pleasure. Everyone sits down)
IGNAZIO= Well, then, you saw what a nice present.
GIANFRANCO= Yes!
IGNAZIO= Sfera Ebbasta was better though! 😁 (Ignazio’s usual joker, Sfera Ebbasta is an Italian rapper singer).
GIANFRANCO= No!
IGNAZIO= When we heard about your story, I felt it very personally, because two years ago, I too lost my dad …….and..(applause) …. stay back there , hearing your story, I have seen myself a lot, I know how you felt as a family, but trying to reach someone who is physically no longer there is impossible, because we have people who need us. ❤
GIANFRANCO= Sure.
IGNAZIO= And in this case I need my mom, I can’t lose my mom, also because then there’s that son-like selfishness that says: “I need you, where are you going?” ❤ (applause)
GIANFRANCO= Sure, sure.
IGNAZIO= Because you have always been our point of reference. ❤ (applause).
PIERO= Allow me to tell you that you are absolutely not alone, we have met your daughters, we have not yet met the other girl (the niece), but they are wonderful people and they love you so much. We are young, and we know how essential parental support can be, and therefore you have a great duty now, to enjoy your daughters and granddaughters. 😘
GIANFRANCO= Yes, my nieces too.
PIERO= I recommend you. (applause)
GIANLUCA= We are happy to have kept you even a little company, with our music, and then we obviously, we are young, we still have so much to learn from life, but I would like to say one thing that, as we all know, no one is immune in life to the pain of suffering and the unpredictability of life that cannot be controlled. (applause)
Surely, however, it is not true that we only live once, because we live every day, and we have the task of making our life wonderful for ourselves and for the people around us, and we owe them love as much as possible. (applause) 😘
IGNAZIO= Anyway, we first knew your daughters….we didn’t try, I swear….😁
PIERO= Also because they were crying (when they met them backstage), they were just crying.
GIANLUCA= We have a small gift, because we know you have a great passion. (He holds a small model of VESPA in his hand) With this you can fly…. you see the flight (pun intended) always comes back….
PIERO= Explain it well….then, we have the pleasure of giving you the real one, this is a model because we couldn’t bring the real one here. ☺
IGNAZIO= Also because they haven’t done the three-seater one yet.
PIERO= But in the real one you’ll find at home, there will be the picnic trunk, so you can bring your grandchildren and children.. ok?
GIANFRANCO = Thank you!
IGNAZIO= Piero and I have it (the Vespa). I’m a Vespa aficionado, with my beautiful fifty (Vespa engine capacity), the old one, I go around and it helps me a lot, because it helps me to be alone with myself and who is no longer there, and to converse with who I want. ❤
PIERO= Also because you live in a place, in a wonderful land, Sardinia.
IGNAZIO= “Aiò, pane carasau “ 😁 (is a word in Sardinian dialect, pane carasau is the typical bread of Sardinia )
GIANFRANCO= Have you ever tasted it?
IGNAZIO= Of course, indeed I will come to see you, I still have to eat the “porceddu” which drives me crazy. (pork cooked in the Sardinian way)
PIERO= (He corrects the pronunciation of Ignazio who said it in the Sicilian way and not in the Sardinian way.)
GIANLUCA= You said it in Sicilian, be careful! 😁
PIERO= Have you ever been to Sicily?
GIANFRANCO= My mom is Sicilian.
PIERO= From where?
IGNAZIO= Don’t tell me about Naro! 😁😁
GIANFRANCO= Between Messina and near Santo Stefano di Camastra.
PIERO= Ah, Santo Stefano di Camastra.
GIANFRANCO= Country of ceramics.
IGNAZIO= Maria, you must know that wherever we go in the world, everywhere, there is always a person from Naro. But I swear to you. 😁
PIERO= (He explains to Maria) It’s the town where I live. 😘
IGNAZIO = (He imitates the people he meets in the world) “I’m Sicilian, my family is Sicilian.” Where from?
“Of Naro!” 😁😁😁 (laughter and applause)
MARIA= Valentina do you want to say something else?
VALENTINA= Yes.
MARIA= Go
VALENTINA= Dad today you have to make me a promise, we want to see you smile again like you used to, can you promise us?
GIANFRANCO= (with a lump in his throat) I promise you, but it’s a bit tough. (applause)
VALENTINA= I know.
GIANFRANCO= I will commit myself.
MARIA= Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero, get ready, because when I open the envelope, they sing.
IGNAZIO= We want to dedicate this song to you.
GIANGFRANCO= Thank you, thank you.
IGNAZIO= It’s one of those songs that you can give the meaning you want, and personally, when we sing it in concerts, I use it to be close to whoever I want. (he touches his heart) So we dedicate it to all of you.
GIANFRANCO = Thank you.
MARIA= Let’s open the envelope. (Valentina and Simona hug their father while Gianluca starts singing Hallelujah, a very touching moment.)
At the end, kisses and hugs between Piero, Ignazio, Gianluca and Gianfranco and his daughters who compliment the boys as they embrace them)
IGNAZIO= I had prepared myself earlier and had brought a spare (He gives a handkerchief to Valentina)
MARIA= Guys, you were very good, but I mean not only in singing, which is obvious, but also in your way of approaching him, you spoke like children, and you spoke with such sincerity, especially you Ignazio.
IGNAZIO= Thank you.
Final greetings.
What can I say, as always I’m speechless. When I wait for Il Volo as a guest in a program, I expect a lot from them, but my expectations are duly confirmed, indeed, they give even more than what I expect.
I begin by saying that they immediately appeared beautiful, elegant, in excellent shape, something Maria also noticed. Very polite, they listened to the long explanation and the long beautiful letters from the girls and read by Maria.
They gave Gianfranco big hugs of support and were able to say beautiful, moving, heartfelt words, Ignazio was particularly touching and sweet.
They sang impeccably and conducted everything with elegance, sympathy, education and love.
Even Maria, who usually isn’t the type to give many comments, wanted to congratulate them saying nice words, because these guys deserve it, they are a great example for those who see and listen to them, not just singing.
I want to finish with the translation of this short video shot backstage.
IGNAZIO= The elements of the family become truly indispensable. Perhaps Gianfranco must understand that it is essential for his daughters to have him in their life.
PIERO= We have to congratulate Ignazio, because he said some beautiful words.
IGNAZIO= I have a past that is very similar to theirs, I lived almost the same thing with my mother. The nice thing is that you become even more united.
GIANLUCA= If people occasionally remembered that, unfortunately, no one is truly immune to pain and suffering, we would also live a more peaceful life, without malice, without envy, because it is too much bigger than us, and the family must be united when above all, unpredictable things happen to us.
IGNAZIO= Often, where words fail, music arrives, you can also not speak and sing and this makes things easier for us.
PIERO= We are happy to have brought a smile to Gianfranco and his splendid daughters.
Again I am speechless, they have all my respect and admiration.
I love them. ❤❤❤
Daniela🤗
