GIANLUCA

I promised some folks a poem here. Considering your conversations today, I changed my mind.

I/we am/are overprotective where Our Guys are concerned. Especially Gianluca for me because of one, non-music, video. Not long ago someone mentioned the YouTube video, “A Thank You to All My Fans/Gianluca Ginoble 2013”.

(Wait don’t go there yet!)

If you’ve lived long on the old site or you’re new here and still haven’t seen it, I envy you! I wish I could see it for the first time, again.

(wait for it!)

Be Forewarned! This is your last chance NOT to love him delightfully, deeply, dearly!

You can remain happy as you are or you can fall hopelessly for the most grateful, most humble Birthday Boy who ever lived – who made the sweetest video there ever was. Oh, be sure to sit down about 3/4 of the way through. His voice goes into an even deeper register that will tear at you!

This video sustained me through a long winter of no event dates.

Be brave! Go all in! Go Now!

Been there? Go again!

~Marie

  1. Marie, after mentioning the birthday video today I have wondered if you have ever met him in person ? When you do you will notice that regardless of age (18, etc. ) all the boys look smaller in real life than you expect even from 100 ft. away on the stage. And Ginaluca is the smallest of them all. He signs the autograph and then looks up at you with those hazel eyes and you even more want to hug and protect him. And that is from a guy ( what difference that means I am not sure).
In person close up, the one that I thought would be the least warm – Piero – was actually, also very thoughtful. Ignazio also has quite a pair of eyes to look at you with. Sheer luck or providence ? That these three would be so different and yet all so wonderful.

  2. No, I have never met them. My first meeting will be at the September 5th Meet and Greet. Oh Myron, are you sure they’re not all 10 feet tall? How could “all that” be contained in a small package?

Hugable Gianluca, thoughtful Piero and Ignazio’s eyes! Humm, I seem to be “burning with a strange desire!”

  3. Mary, go to YouTube try it this way “Gianluca Ginoble thank you to all my fans”. I just tried it. IT IS NOT THE ONE WHERE HE IS IN FRONT OF THE PIANO. Let me know what you think of it.

    1. Precious!! I want to be his grandma. When I was at my first, and only, Meet and Greet, I was the first one to go up in front where the boys were standing. I wasn’t sure what to do and probably looked a little lost. Gianluca came right up and gave me a big hug. While the others followed suit, I was so impressed with Gian for sensing my hesitation and being the first one to offer a hug.

  4. I had forgotten how very touching that video is. I wanted to reach in and give him a hug.

  5. Marie, I’m so glad that you wrote that absolutely stunning tribute to Gianluca. You really have the gift!
When I first started following the boys in earnest, right after the Detroit PBS concert, Gian had already become my favorite, but I kept thinking, “He’s so exceedingly handsome, I bet he’s a little conceited and stand-offish”. (He was also very subdued on stage at that point, and hadn’t developed his professional persona.) Imagine my surprise and delight when I kept hearing how sweet, considerate, loving, and kind he is to everyone, and especially to his fans. So many of the people who met him at M&Gs raved about him and how he went out of his way to be kind. All these tributes to him just made me love him more! And then came THE VIDEO! That sweet, humble, from-the heart “thank you” to his fans really got to me. Yep, I cried.
I have never had the great honor to meet The Boys…one of the few regrets of my life ,,,,but if they ever come within 300 miles of Dallas, I’ll be the first in line.
    Viva Gianluca!!!!

  6. Marie, get ready to fall even deeper for Gianluca after the M&G. He is the most caring, loving, grateful person in the world. I watched the birthday video several times, he is humble and sincere. I melt every time. So been there but here it goes again, and again…thanks Marie for the reminder.

  7. I loved the birthday video!!! He is just soooo sweet. I met them in NY for CD signing. I did not have to reach up far to hug Gianluca and I am small myself. But he is so kind. For me Piero seemed to be the most reserve. Ignazio was very cordial and gave me a beautiful smile. Don’t get me wrong I still love Piero too. But Gianluca seemed to be the warmest of the three. Either way Marie you will be walking on cloud nine☁

  8. Thanks Marie and everyone. It’s so nice to not have to translate…bless Bing but it’s going to drive me mad!!! It’s comfortable here and I love hearing about the boys. Doubt I’ll ever meet them but I sure love their music and personalities. Since i’m a packrat I just went to see that special GianLuca video. He’s as ‘real’ as can be. How could we not love him….and Piero and Ignazio also! I think I finally mastered Ignazios name, not easy for an Irishlass with a last name that sounds Polish and is really Italian Hugs, everyone Marti

  9. Sheridan, where in Az are you? I live in the Phoenix area. Nice to see someone close by.

jrd1776 Yes,I also have a cat named Samantha, hence my post name.
I’m sure your friend was happy to hear from you. Glad my
    Samantha inspired you, ha ha.

Gian, Piero, and Ignazio, you have a way of touching our hearts. The love that flows from you, on stage or off, is a beautiful thing to see,(and feel .) That’s the way it should be! Stay strong, and remember: ” to the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you just might be the world!”. ukn You are blessed.

    1. Thanks, Kittykam, also for the great quotation!

I saw my friend, and we spent time working with her sick cat. She responded soooo well. Sure hoping this makes a long-term difference for her, too.

And Marie and all, my heart is full just thinking of Gianluca’s thank-you video and all of our gratitude and love for him and for all our boys. I remember how soul-full Gianluca’s eyes and expression were in that video.

Now less thank a week ’till I go to BC for the concert!!

      Hugs to all,

  10. These comments make me even a little bit more bitter about Chicago PBS supporters being misinformed about the M&G. 🙁 So disappointed I won’t get to meet them all in person this year.
It is obvious from his tweets that he is a thoughtful and deep thinking person, and when I saw that picture of him opposite that beautiful little girl that passed away recently, I was struck that she looked like she must have been a brave and beautiful soul–and that she recognized those qualities in him.

    1. I felt that , too, Kelly. You expressed what I saw in such a lovely way. Thank you!
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  11. I went back to look at this video again. If that boy is not sincere, he is the greatest actor in the world! You can just see how grateful he is for all that he has received from his fans. I agree, Marti, that he is a real as can be.

Myron, I saw the comment you made on there about an interview with Barbara Walters. “In it they would take just a little time to go to each of your home towns and show us where you live (without getting too private) . Then she would interview you and your parents and later, of course, have you sing about 3 or 4 songs. Prime time. Either a special or on 20/20.” That would be a dream come true for all the IL VOLO fans.

  12. One of the most endearing qualities of Gianluca is his ability to say “thank you.” So many celebrities act as if their fame and fortune is an entitlement. Gianluca is not afraid to acknowledge his fans – and in turn, we love him more and more! He is a very, very talented, very special person. With all the excitement surrounding his birthday, the party and all the celebrations, he took the time to speak from his heart.

    1. Hey, Myron, perhaps the energy of your vision lit the fire for a Disney movie about IL VOLO’s lives starring them (per Team IL VOLO). Is this really happening? What I’ve read so far has either been in a language I don’t understand or has been challenged translation, so I’m waiting for clearer confirmation.

      With enthusiastic anticipation!
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. Jeanine, I was amazed that Disney would take this on since they are contracted to Universal – arch competitor. Actually, I feel that Disney would do a better job with the boys than Universal currently does with their promotion. Maybe – with Disney – they will finally get on ABC shows like the View or Jimmy Kimmel, etc.

      2. Great to hear your take on this, Myron!

A Disney film will definitely win over many new and young fans, as well as inspire others to follow their dreams.

So glad they have so many musically good and caring folks in their corner. I’m trusting such a film will be an awesome promotional tool and so much more.

I have such faith in Gatica for the sound engineering and mixing that I hope he’ll be in on that portion of the project.

And, on another subject, I loved the article I just read on Team IL VOLO:
IL VOLO is living the teenage dream.

5 days until I’ll be sitting in the Orpheum Theatre listening to IL VOLO live! Woo hoo!

        (; >) All the best,
        ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  13. Good night Gianluca. Have you visited us here? Do you know we love you very much not only for your amazingly gifted talent, but also for your sincere and loving personality. Are your cold gone? Please take care, the tour will begin soon. My love and blessings to you always. Love.

  14. What sentimental blogs here! I really enjoyed reading these heartfelt comments about OUR sweeter than sweet Gianluca! I know others did too.

    Kittykam, I love that quote!

  15. I too love “our” Gianluca, his looks, his voice and mostly his sweet and caring personality. Aside, I remember a quote from a newspaper article from several years ago saying ” He (Gianluca) has the look of a happy accident of genes from Paul Anka and Mario Lanza” Do you agree?

    1. I think he would favor more Mario Lanza than Paul Anka. Had to look online to make sure. I got a kick on young Mario Lanza’s hairstyle. Looks vaguely familiar, huh? Because of copywright laws, I don’t know if I can put in the website, but if anyone searches by Mario Lanza, you will see several websites.

I had not seen that video of Gianluca, but I’m so glad I did. There is no doubt how sincere he was in that video, and so heartfelt. Thank you all for sharing and a hello to all the newcomers from a fairly newcomer myself.

  16. Is there anyone else besides me on this site from the mid-west? If so, I’m sure you are as unhappy as I that “our boys” won’t be coming to Minneapolis this year. I love these young men as if they were my grandsons. The video of Gianlucca thanking his fans makes me want even more to see him, Piero, and Ignazio in person. Maybe next year? I can only hope.

    1. Hi Allene, keep hoping. I’m sure they will come to a place near you one day soon. At least you have an excuse for not seeing them. My excuse is that I’m just too chicken to go by myself. They are playing not one, not two, but THREE arenas in drivable distance to me and I’m not going to any. I know, Jeanie, my own fault 🙁

  17. Allene, I’m from Minnesota and did go to the concert last year in Minneapolis. I was also unhappy that they aren’t coming here this year. But I can’t wait around another year for them to maybe come here (being of an advanced age) so I’m going to Detroit for that concert. Hopefully once they get on tour there will be clips on Facebook or Twitter.

  18. Mary, I too am from Minnesota and also of an advanced age. They say “hope springs eternal” so I’ll keep hoping that 2014 will bring a concert closer than Chicago to me.

  19. Sheridan, sorry, thought you mentioned Az in a previous post. You’re right,California is closer than NYC. Glad we connected anyway!
Talk to you again. There’s always great things to say about our boys!

    1. Thank you, kittykam. You are right about that!
By the way, has anyone heard when they will arrive in North America? Don’t they need time to rehearse before their first appearances?

  20. Good Morning Sheridan,
No, they must be holding tight to that information. However 3 hours ago Ignazio tweeted “A few days and we’ll start the new tour”. Can’t get here soon enough for me! I would go get them if I could! You know, run them by the house for dinner then to the concert. Nothing fancy, just casual. Nice dream huh?

    1. And you’ll invite us over, right? Last time they had all the hoopla about the buses and this time, not much. I just saw on another section of this site that Gianluca told a fan they would be in Vancouver on the 21st, but I don’t see it in his twitter.

  21. I keep posting in the wrong spot! The days are getting closer though not to your house for dinner, Marie. Actually they’re stopping here at my house first!

  22. There you go Sheridan. You can drive them from Linda’s house in Florida to my house in Ohio and stay for dinner! Sound like a deal?

  23. Maybe I spoke too soon. I’m not sure you can handle it. Be careful! You can not jump for joy in a car! Hurts the head. Maybe I should fly down and ride with you, just so you don’t hurt yourself!?!

  24. Hi everyone. I too love Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio. Vert simply, they fill my heart to overflowing. If you gave seen each one in the various solos, each one is so overcome with emotion at the audience reaction. It is beautiful to watch. You just know they are still very humble and grateful for our appreciation. I just love the way they are on stage. The ways they interact with each other, the band, the beat, the musicians. I love the way they move around on stage, even the ways they “upstage” each other (sorry Myron). It’s all so comfortable and casual and draws the audience into their world. It is their joie de vivre that is so endearing. And you can feel their compassion and kindness even just watching news clips and videos. I think they are a miracle, and can’t wait to see what Disney is going to do with them. Yes they are bigger than life and I love them all so much! 💞💜💙💚💛💞

    1. Hi, Stephanie and all,

I just wrote to one friend about this Disney film, saying I’m waiting for confirmation on the news.

Anyway, I love what you said here, Stephanie!

Here’s what I said to my friend,
“Wow! What an opportunity to support youth and adults everywhere to be themselves, follow their dreams, appreciate their brothers and sisters and the gifts God gave them! As well as to study and stay humble as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and other greats have told them.
And, of course, this film would so lusciously spread their harmony, love, and laughter!”

I’ve never seen such awed and grateful agreement and delight about anyone as we have here (and around the world) regarding our IL VOLO guys!

      Love to all,
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. Everything you just said, Jeanine, is right on. I think they are a phenomenon. Something bigger than the sum of its parts. And when the parts are so…..oo la la! ……makes all more luscious ( can I say that? Lol). Sometimes language (any language) isn’t enough. I’m 67 years old and I feel absolutely gaga over each one. Have a good day everyone. And thanks once again for your generosity in sharing your gifts and emotions on this site. Its nice to be able to have an Il Volo support group! 💞💜💙💛💞. 😍

      2. Stephanie
Most of the ladies on this site are, to be polite about it, seniors! Grandmas!
I love the boys’ joie de vivre! It makes me feel a lot younger than I am–gives me a lift–and when they sing–I am swept away to a completely different heavenly place.

      3. Thanks, Stephanie, Penina, and all.

As I remember learning in high school French:
“D’accord” = we are in agreement.
(sorry about the wrong language; some day… Italian)

So, is it tomorrow, the 21st that they’ll be here in the U.S.?
Same day I’ll be getting my expedited passport. Yay!

        Happy dances to all,
        ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  25. Good evening ladies, ran into a post from Gian saying, ” what suit should I wear for the LA concert? Answered him, Gian you could wear a paper bag and still be gorgeous! Was I right ladies?

    1. (; >)
True, but since I have a feeling he has a strong visual component in his learning style (I taught high school), he’s going to want to perfect his look!

Sweet night, and thanks for the smile!
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  26. NBJDavis, Hi, I’m fairly new myself, but the ladies were very welcoming. We all love all three boys, and not afraid to say so! I just really hope that they see our blog to see that. They are so endearing; both on and off stage. don’t you think? Till next time……
