I’m Smiling Because….

Hi Everyone!

Has everyone been having fun reading about all the concerts?  I hope so.  Please, don’t be shy about submitting pictures or an experience story.  I know there are still good ones out there; we’d love to hear them.

We would like to kick off a new feature today.  It will be something we do once weekly to send us into the weekend with positive attitudes, and something that reminds us to “Smile” in spirit of the guys.  I hope you will find it fun.

Your reason does not have to be Il Volo related. 🙂

  1. …TGIF, y’all! LOL

    No..that wasn’t in spirit. Let me try again…. 😉

…this blog has taken off even more than we dreamed, and I think we’ve turned it into a wonderful place to show our love for the guys. 🙂

  2. I’m smiling because about two years ago I discovered gianluca piero and ignacio and their magnificent voices wow looks and on top of all that their sweetness and humbleness and personalities that can do nothing but make me smile and smile. And smile.

  3. I’m smiling because I’m still feeling the glow of the Detroit experience. I don’t want to let it go–meeting Marie and Loretta, being up front at the concert, sharing it with daughter and granddaughter, and of course, being in the van with my arm around Piero! I didn’t want to let go, but security told him to get out–so–life goes on….but I still have the memories.

  4. I’m smiling because I found our boys two years ago and my life has been changed forever! I start my computer with a picture of their three smiling faces and I’m smiling too! I’m smiling because I’m a part of this blog site sharing with all you lovely ladies (you, too Myron) – kindred souls! God is good!

    1. You know, I think we need to hunt down some of those men that are to bashful to admit they like Il Volo. I have been a music director for so many years that I am always speaking out on what I like (or don’t like) – I know there are guys out there who are Il Volo fans. They need to let us know they have a pulse at least. I am working on my son (25 yrs.) who has seen Il Volo two times and once with Streisand last year. He love them but does not do blogs – UGH ! I will pester.

      1. Likewise, the Music Pastor at my church has told me he loves Il Volo, but I don’t see him blogging, or even going off to a concert. I think there has to be a lot of men who like these boys, but simply do not communicate as openly as we!

  5. I’m smiling because of my love for Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca! I love them and worry about them as if they were my grandkids! And I’m smiling because Il Volo makes my heart sing and troubles seem far away!

  6. I am smiling because that it what you do when you are in love. That is in love with Il Volo. When I am having a hard day I just have to think of them and I smile. I especially smile when handsome Gianluca sings Smile. My face hurt so much last night at the concert from smiling. I smile more now than ever since Il Volo came into my life.😀

    1. May I join you? I smile a lot more now than two years ago when I happened across the boys on the MDA Telethon on 9-4-11….

  7. Beautifully said Michele and so true. My smile is still in place from wed. Pittsburgh show.

  8. I’m smiling because…

…IL VOLO is out of this world spectacular in every way!

…because I got to see them in BC and hear so many wonderful stories and songs from the other concerts, and see fantastic photos

…because I just watched Gianluca’s thank-you video from his 18th birthday, on YouTube at:
Thank you to all my fans / Gianluca Ginoble 2013 (Sub Español)

…because I wake up hearing their beautiful music in my mind

…because it’s still warm and sunny in Oregon, and I sing with IL VOLO when I walk by the river

    That’s for starters!
Kelly, what a great feature! You guys, our Flight Crew Board, always astound me with the magnificence of this site!

Blowing kisses to all, especially Ignazio, Piero, and Gianluca,
    ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  9. I am smiling because Il Volo, our guys, Gianluca are in my life night and day 24/7…I know I can get through anything. I just did, tonight, for a 3 hour dinner with my husband’s friends. I totally fool them into thinking that I enjoy the dinner and their conversations. I can always put up a big smile with our guys, their faces, their voices, their music in my mind…thinking of them…always!

    1. Oh, Elaine, I know what you are saying, because I, too, can be with a group of friends pretending to care about what they are saying, and wishing I were home with the boys. Guess we are totally besotted to let them take over our lives. Do you think we need to seek help?

      1. No Mary, don’t do it. See Christine’s post under the “Pittsburgh 9/11” page. She was thinking of forming an Il Volo Anonymous Club, but I think we talked her out of it.

  10. I love this blog because it helps me keep the boys fresh in my mind. Hearing all about them and all their pictures. It builds the anticipation of when I will actually get to see them perform again. This gives me something to hold on to while I wait patiently.

  11. I don’t smile!!! I have laughed for three years since I met(u-tube) these boys. I seldom laughed before, now I can’t stop. I think that is why I am so healthy. even in Church I catch myself laughing at some thing they did or said and hope nobody saw me. they are always in the back of my mind even at events or parties(Yes Elaine I know what you are talking about) and just long for it to be over and go home and get on my computer. can’t go to sleep until I see them even if its 1 am. if I have to miss them one day I have withdrawal symptoms oh oh!!!addiction????

      1. Don’t think so…and we’re cool with that. 🙂 Hopefully this blog will help fill the gap. I miss them dearly already, and it’s only been two weeks since Chicago.

  12. Deanne, I can relate about the laughing. I was driving down the road with my husband and I started to think about something Gianluca did on stage the other night. I starting laughing out loud and then realized I must stop because I was going to be questioned as to why I was laughing. Its so good to be with others here that understand even if we are all crazy.😄

  13. It certainly is true! No matter where I am or what I am doing, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio and their music are in my mind. I wake up with their songs “playing” in my head. And if there’s a day without them, it feels like something very important is missing. And I am smiling because all of you are kindred spirits, and it is so wonderful to have this blog where people of like mind can share our love for them. They certainly have added a lot of joy to my life!

  14. I should give my husband the atte ntion. I give these three.some people probably. Think I’m a little much but don’t care. I am totally smitten.

  15. I’m smiling through my Il Volo withdrawal too! Got it bad!
I drive almost 80 miles to work, round trip, 3 days a week. I use to hate the long drive. Now I love it. It’s just me and The Boys singing and having a wonderful time!
I bought a poster of The Boys at one of the concerts. I’m putting it up on the wall in my bed room. Do you have any idea how many years it has been since I put a poster up in my bedroom? Well, I’m not telling you but, go ahead and laugh anyway. I don’t care I will kiss it everyday until I wear it out!

  16. Marie, now you are making me really LAUGH!! I was thinking of the poster too. when I was younger and played tennis, I used to have up pictures of Bjon Borg and other tennis players by my vanity mirror to motivate me. my husband didn’t comment because he knew I was fanatical about it . well now,(my husband died) that I live in Florida, I have up pictures of the boys by my mirror, and when ever one of my family had to come into my bathroom,I used to go and put things infront the pictures, but now I don’t bother, and they accept me as I am. they know I am an Il Volo fanatic, and they actually tell me now when a concert is coming up(but then find out that I knew long before them ha ha) I have introduced Il Volo (with cds) to lots of people like at my dentist, my church, at meetings I go to, neighbours. I told God I wish I could be as good an evangelist for Him as I am for Il Volo. if I get an opening, I take it.(and I am a shy person!!) well as to the poster Marie,if I get one, I think I will have to hide it behind the door!!!

    1. I wish I had bought that poster at the theater…just so much going on and people waiting in line, I felt rushed so just bought the T shirt and book of photos…The poster picture is on the cover of the book–guess that’s why I didn’t think I needed it. But don’t want to take it off the cover and wish I also had the poster. Wonder if it’s on sale anywhere. Deanne, had to laugh at how you used to cover up your posted pictures. I have a bunch taped up around my computer and when daughter or granddaughter are coming over I used to take them down and put in a drawer. Now I’m more comfortable about leaving them up (they both love IL Volo, too. However I may take down the one of Piero in the hot tub, and fixing his hair before the show and the other torso…just because.

      1. OMG Mary, leave those pictures up! Piero himself posted those pictures, so we are not hurting anyone by looking at them. I haven’t printed any of them, but I have the same ones, plus lots more, on my computer to look at any time I want to fantasize about being young again. I have more pictures of IL VOLO on my computer than I have of my family. As we’ve said many times before, we’re old, not dead.

      2. Mary, you made me laugh! I use my lap pad to keep up with our wonderful boys and I often laugh out loud, or have my earplugs in listening to them performing, and my husband just looks at me with a funny look. I have tried & tried to explain the Il Volo phenomenon to him, but he just does’t get it! I think its hilarious that we all keep saying the exact same things. I just believe it’s a Heavenly mystery. The angels are smiling because our angels are sharing & spreading such love in a weary and war-torn world. I thank God for Gianluca, Ignazio & Piero every day. Have a wonderful week everybody. 💞💜💞

  17. Oh you guys! I have my autographed We Are Love Cd propped up on my dining room table. When someone comes over I lay it down to look like it’s just laying there temporarily. I also have a t-shirt on a hanger on the top front of my closet door. (I talk to it but, that’s a whole other story!). Easy to just slip in the closet when company comes. Yeah, I’m ready for that institution and you’re all going with me!

    1. LOL! We’ll have such a great time together in the institution together, Marie. They’ll have to have a rec room that has Il Volo music 24/7. Maybe our angels would even come to sing for us there!

  18. Teresa, aren’t you glad you’re here? You can ask questions like that and know someone will answer. Makes you feel a little closer to normal, huh? (Your not. Neither is Linda).

  19. Girls. some of your comments are killing me with laughter!!! do you realize we are just like the men who put up phonographic pictures of girls, we are just doing the opposite?? we might have to go into rehab one day too to recover from Il Volo, if that’s possible??? please, none of you (us) go for public office because you will get exposed by the press!!!!! doesn’t look good.

    1. PHONOgraphic ? If you said that about The Boys, I would think you were dating yourself!

And, yes, I do share IL VOLO with total strangers.

My husband died over 13 years ago, and fortunately, he doesn’t comment.
(My next beloved really needs to love quality music!)
I do have my friend Lisa who crossed over last November, and she turns my phone on and plays Questo Amore.
I have friends who totally understand that IL VOLO is special beyond words, truly changing our world.
Then I have one friend who says, “I’m worried about you,” if I talk about IL VOLO. I’m going to have to reference the topic that she always talks about. IL VOLO is nothing to worry about and everything to smile about!

My cats mostly just try to sleep while I’m laughing so hard as I read this.

      Sweet night,
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  20. Yes Marie I am glad.my family already thinks ive gone off the deep end.ok so I’m a 57 year old groupie what of it.

  21. I’m smiling because I just watched part 1 of the Boston 2013 video on you tube. Watching & listening to our guys sing the US National Anthem acappella gave me the chills. It was beautiful!
But I usually smile the whole time I watch & listen to IL VOLO. I’m as addicted as all the rest of you. I used to listen to The Beatles & Paul
Mc Cartney all the time at work. Now I only listen to “My Italian Boys”.
Sometimes I let Andrea Bocelli & Massimo Ranieri have a turn, but it is usually all IL VOLO all day long!

  22. I’m smiling because I love reading the comments on this blog, they often make me laugh out loud! and I smile when I watch videos of our Boys, I grin from ear to ear, and sometimes chuckle at their antics and if my husband passes by he wants to know what I am laughing at. How can I explain? It is impossible! And that makes me smile too! And so it goes, all day!

  23. You all make me feel so normal! My family also thinks I’m crazy. I also have more photos of the boys than I do of my children. I have in the past taken down photos when the kids were coming to visit, but I think I’m over that now. I’ve played one “we Are Love” cd so much I wore it out! And…..I talk to total strangers about Il Volo! (I’ve always been very shy!) Thank you for making me feel normal…..(I’m smiling again!)

  24. I talk to total strangers and just about everyone about them too. I feel we are the normal ones and those who cant relate are abnormal.

  25. Marie, I’ll gladly give you decorating tips for your bedfroom wall. You can go to Michael’s craft store, they have 50% off coupons every week. You can get photo frames, poster frames, stickers, pillows (pillow stuffing for cases, you have to supply your own case and I can give you pillow ideas) ha ha

  26. I wish I could come up with a reason why I’m smiling, b/c I am not. IL VOLO came and left town in lightening speed. I heard that “certain” fo the 3 members of IL VOLO were gracious enought to stop and sign autographs for those waiting outside the theater. I didn’t wait b/c I didnt know that would happen. I don’t quite undersand that concerpt, b/c we were told they have no time to do so at M&G yet they are signing outside! I will stop harping on the topic of autographs, it’s a closed subject now, ancient history. Funny thing, when I listen to their song SMILE, while I can appreciate their beautiful vocals, especially Gianluca at the beginning of the song, it has the complete opposite effect, I don’t feel like smiling at all, but crying. I feel like you do in the days after Christmas when all the build up is over and you are left with nothing to do but picking up scraps of wrapping paper, Sorry to be sucfh a downer, l still love reading all your stories and reading your thoughts, they make me smile. I will look around and find other reasons to smile. There should be some? .

    1. Christine, I love your analogy of Christmas and picking up the wrapping paper. Exactly how I have been feeling…must keep repeating that saying, “don’t be sad because it’s over–be glad it ever happened at all.”

  27. Chris, I’m going to have to wait a while before any more decorating. I have to get over buying and applying poster putty first!
There are enough wonderful pictures and video’s around to keep us smiling through winter. Gianluca is great about keeping in touch. Join Linda and me for Hot Chocolate and Speedo and Jean pictures some cold winter morning.
For goodness sake Chris! Your a Gianluca woman! That alone should make you smile!!
Didn’t you see that picture today? Saw it earlier! Still smilin’!

  28. O Boy! Linda P You’re definitely one of us. same thing here, I have more photos of the boys than I do of my family. I also talk to total strangers about Il Volo and give them a CD.(I keep a stock for when the occasion arises) and I also am shy and quiet, but not when it comes to Il Volo, I light up!!! amazing how 3 Italian teenagers can change you. I get my daily news from Gianluca’s Twitter 1st thing every morning to find out where they are and if he slept last night. they seem to travel in the early hours of the morning, that means you grab sleep when you can. good thing they are young
Gianluca, if you read this, I want you to go onto this website, you will love it:http://www.youtube.com/embed/e-y581HdWFY?rel=0

  29. I’m smiling today because yesterday our group here got a large donation toward the scholarship fund we started to help finance teens from poor families to go see Il Volo when they finally do come to town. A lot of the target teens fit into that catagory. All of our music teachers assoc. is helping as well. We focus on teens who are already in choirs or voice lessons as a way of pushing toward a future continuing audience for Il Volo. We also have noticed (as some of you have reported to us) that the audiences here in USA/Canada are largely adults of a wide age grouping WHICH IS GREAT but we need to get more teens in there as well.

    1. Fantastic, Myron! Such wonderful news!
You’re going to love my “part 2” idea related to musical groups (students) attending IL VOLO.

      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  30. Lucky Linda and lee lee. Wish I still had my concert to look forward to.congratulations myron. That’s great.

  31. Congratulations to you Myron, your group and the Music Teachers Assoc.! I’m sure once the teens experience even one performance, we’ll have a whole new crop of smart, young, devoted listeners! And, just maybe, a pop-opera singer or two!

  32. I’m smiling because I know that LeeLee and Linda are going to have a great time! (She says w/o a hint of jealousy!)

LeeLee, you probably know that Linda is my BFF. However, DO NOT let her leave with Ignazio! I would never hear the end of it if she did!

  33. Too late, please see my comment on the last page. I’m not planning to stop her. See – he’ll have no choice but to come with me, too (YIPPEE) (along with the other two, of course). 🙂

  34. Yeah, yeah..saw your comments. Who cares if you get to go to a concert without me? Who cares if you might leave with the entire trio? I’ll have much more fun at work Saturday night listening to disgruntled gamblers! Then I’ll get to listen to you two talk about how great The Boys were! What fun! Can’t wait! I think I’m smiling.

  35. Aw Marie – you are making me feel sooo bad. I promise we will think of you Saturday and how envious we will be that we are at some silly concert while you are having so much fun with disgruntled gamblers!! Who will have it better than you? Oh, I know, me and Linda!! :-p

  36. Linda, I know you know better. Don’t listen to her. Not only that, I don’t think wild horses could keep us away from that Arena (wild horses in Miami?). Make that crazy drivers!

  37. Have an awesome time, Linda and LeeLee!!

And I’m rooting for some kind of incredible story like Marie and Mary had! Yes!!

    ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

    1. Thank you, Jeanine! Even if we don’t have the stories, just being there will be exciting enough.
