Time is sure flying, here we are in November already!!
Il Volo is in Brazil and will give 7 concerts there starting on November 5th. I thought you might enjoy a short history of the largest country in South America.
Brazil i/brəˈzɪl/ (Portuguese: Brasil, IPA: [bɾaˈziw), officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (Portuguese: República Federativa do Brasil, is the largest country in both South America and the Latin American region. It is the world’s fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population. It is the largest Lusophone country in the world, and the only one in the Americas.
Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 km (4,655 mi). It is bordered on the north by Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and the French overseas region of French Guiana; on the northwest by Colombia; on the west by Bolivia and Peru; on the southwest by Argentina and Paraguay and on the south by Uruguay. Numerous archipelagos form part of Brazilian territory, such as Fernando de Noronha, Rocas Atoll, Saint Peter and Paul Rocks, and Trindade and Martim Vaz. It borders all other South American countries except Ecuador and Chile and occupies 47% of the continent of South America.
Brazil was a colony of Portugal beginning from the landing of Pedro Álvares Cabral in 1500, up until 1815, when it was elevated to the rank of kingdom upon the formation of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. The colonial bond was in fact broken several years earlier, in 1808, when the capital of the Portuguese colonial empire was transferred from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, after French forces led by the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Portugal. Independence was achieved in 1822 with the formation of the Empire of Brazil, a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system. The country became a presidential republic in 1889, when a military coup d’état proclaimed the Republic, although the bicameral legislature, now called Congress, dates back to the ratification of the first constitution in 1824. Its current Constitution, formulated in 1988, defines Brazil as a federal republic. The Federation is formed by the union of the Federal District, the 26 States, and the 5,564 Municipalities.
The Brazilian economy is the world’s seventh largest by nominal GDP and the seventh largest by purchasing power parity, as of 2012. A member of the BRIC group, Brazil has one of the world’s fastest growing major economies, and its economic reforms have given the country new international recognition and influence. Brazil’s national development bank (BNDES) plays an important role for the country’s economic growth. It mostly depends on its own money and invests in big local firms. The bank’s goal is to promote economic growth as well as to preserve the environment and protection of local communities.[20] Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations, the G20, CPLP, Latin Union, the Organization of Ibero-American States, the Organization of American States, Mercosul and the Union of South American Nations. Brazil is one of 17 megadiverse countries, home to a variety of wildlife, natural environments, and extensive natural resources in a variety of protected habitats. Brazil is considered a middle power in international affairs, and has been identified as an emerging power.

It’s been an eventful few days for “Our Guys”, concerts, awards and even a little illness. Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca seem to have taken everything in stride as the professionals they are!! We are happy to see they have a few days off, they deserve them!!

Great write-up on Brazil- nice research. In my travels I think that Rio is one of the most stunningly beautiful cities from the point of natural, raw beauty. Even as you come into the airport and view all this dramatic scenery. It is an exciting town but one that you need to keep your head on your shoulders while you explore. This should be another great audience for the guys.
re: the on-going discussions about vocal and general health – this rest for these three days can do wonders (if they use it wisely and I think they will) for their strength and their voice. They will need it for the last stretch through the Sao Paulo concert series.

You’re awesome, Linda!! Great story on Brazil. I, too, would love to go there one day. I know the guys are anxious to be there. Brazil was one of the countries they were definitely excited about going to. I’m sure they are going to have a great time.

Linda, thanks, your class about Brazil is perfect. May I make one correction? There will be 07 concerts not 03. Rio de Janeiro 11/05 – são Paulo 11/06 – Curitiba 11/08 – Porto Alegre 11/09 and São Paulo again 11/11,12,13. In Rio and São Paulo sold out – the others I don´t know yet.
I would like to add something about Brazil – we had a military dictatorship from 1964 to 1988. Was a hard time, specially for the singers/musicians, many had to live exiles in Europa.
Democracy is a blessing despite all the problems.

Josie, I see you list Nov. 13 for a concert. That was not listed before so have they added another in Sao Paulo ? (that would be four in one city). I am curious because the web site does not show it nor does Team Il Volo. In some ways, I hope not because they need all the break days they can get before Panama. I am actually surprised that they did not add one to Rio.
Myron, you can see it on the theatre website. http://www.teatrobradesco.com.br – is in portuguese but is not dificult to you to see the dates.
Myron, I have to agree with you about Rio. I have flown to that airport a few times when I was a teen and remember the view. Now I am craving some beans and rice and of course Il Volo.

No problem. I only checked the official web site (laugh, laugh) which is hardly ever up-to-date. and Team Il Volo which usually is. I wonder when that was added. I still wish that would not have happened. That is a lot of concerts in a row without break. Someone must need the $$$$ badly. I know people will disagree with me but I felt they needed those days of rest before Panama.
Then after Panama I hope that they really have time off before the American things start up again end of Nov and December.
If anyone gets a chance you should gp to YOU TUBE and search for : IL VOLO O Sole Mio Teatro Gran Rex Argentina. It is a 3;23 vidoe and the end of the video it shows girls have stormed the stage and literally jump up on the guys. Ignazio is helplessly swining the one girl around, and Gianluca is sort of walkng in the other direction to try to avoid the situation, but a girl catches up to him to. Then the burly security guards finally come up and pry them away. It is both humorous (to see IB swinging the girl) but scary at the same time that they could be so vulnerable up there.
I have never been to Rio or Brazil. I will put it on my wish list now that I know how wonderful it is. Josie, which concert(s) will you be attending? Looking forward to your concert story. Linda, great post as always!
So how did you spend the extra hour from going back to standard time? You want to know mine? What else but to surf on YouTube for our guys. I watch a few interviews that are in Spanish. Don’t understand a word but it is still great to see their faces and hear the lovely voices. Guys have a great time in Brazil.

an hour ago Ignazio tweeted that he is feeling better now – HOOOOORAY ! – and that he now has “wifi” – Well, we all knew that would do the trick. Just a little injection of ” WIFI ” better than an apple a day. You gotta love this guy .

If he has his own WIFI or hotspot, he is not dependent on internet access from local establishments and it is more secure.

a few comments: that interview in Argentina is soooo funny.I just love how Ignazio translates into English, I love the way they compose their sentences. I am beginning to speak like them too! I love when the interviewer tells them”the best you guys have is your voices” and Ignazio pipes in”Yeah, we’re ugly but we have the voice” and the interviewer says”No, I didn’t say that” and the funniest part is at the end when she asks them what is the first thing they did when they arrived in Argentina, and Piero says, eat meat, Gianluca piped in and said He went to sleep, and piero comes out with”because we’re married” and Gianluca immediately corrects him “Tired! not married” that was funny I
I note that they are in San Paulo, but I see their 1st concert on 5th is in Rio, so another plane trip because flying time to Rio is about 5 hours. I t thought they might have had a little ease up on the travelling in Brazil, but it seems not.

Deanne, the flying time from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro is about 40 minutes, the distance between the cities is about 600 km, (372 miles) is a short flight.

I am glad Ignazio is feeling better. I was beginning to think we were going to have to fly down there with chicken soup & cough syrup! I used my extra hour to surf you tube watching our guys. I also wanted to turn the clock back in another way, but it wouldn’t work. A friend sent me a cartoon about turning back your clos. I tried to copy it here, but I couldn’t. The the “old” woman in the cartoon said she was going to turn back her clock to when she was 20. If only we could really do that!
