Per Bing: Now in its 28th year, the classical Christmas concert will offer this year a program and a really exceptional cast. With the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio, and the chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, directed by Ciro Visco, will perform numerous solo voices in a typically Christmas music program.

  1. I just spent the last hour watching the RA1 replay. I can’t begin to describe the feelings and emotions that went through me. It truly made the day one of the best Christmases in a long time. I can only imagine how proud Il Volo’s parents are of them. They have so much poise, manners, and professionalism it is so hard to remember they are still young men. Wishing you all a Joyous New Year!

  2. I sat here the entire 50+ min listening to an incredible program. The boys were OUTSTANDING! So many thoughts and emotions went through my mind I couldn’t keep up. I know my Mom was listening from heaven as Christmas songs were one of her favorites. I so miss the days when we would have the Sunday evening before Christmas dedicated for a Christmas program of hymns and scripture readings telling the story of the birth of Christ at our church. We would all go as a family. Not been able to find anything like that now days, but this program filled the void nearly completely. Thank you, Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year.

  3. Thank you Michele for the video of the whole program at St. Francis of Assisi church. I started my day with my family & have now just ended the evening listening to the most inspiring service with Il Volo.
I couldn’t ask for anything more perfect to hear those magnificent voices before I go to bed.

  4. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!! I am so proud of Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca! The whole concert was very inspirational in such a magnificent setting! A perfect ending for Christmas Day!

    1. What a way to finish off a great Christmas. Had Christmas with all my family coming home and then finishing off with our other family (IL VOLO) . Thank you,Michele. Thank you Flight Crew for making my year extra special!

  5. Wonderful!!! Gianluca, Piero, and Ignazio, you gave me the best Christmas gift ever. I will never forget this Christmas Day of 2013 where I began the day with your performance at the Disney Christmas Parade and ended with the concert at Assisi. Your songs, your voices warmed my day, my heart, and my soul. Thank you so much and I love you dearly.

  6. Awe, tears in my eyes, transfixed. Guys, you were magnificent!
What a precious way to end a beautiful day! And what a glorious setting. I love the blue.

Did you notice that, of the vocalists, IL VOLO was listed first, then Paul Sorvino, Arisa, Stacy Francis.
Arisa’s voice was a magnificent complement to Our Boys!

First time I’ve ever seen our guys wearing the same outfit in a concert. They look fantastic, and I wouldn’t want them to feel they need to all dress alike, except in a case like this, where I’m sure it was recommended to them.

I kept looking for the parents (whom I saw in other videos), and I didn’t see them. Anyone see them? Tips for when / where?

SOUND TIP: If anyone couldn’t hear the concert, move your mouse to the bottom of the video screen and hover your mouse over the sound icon, which will pop open. Then you can drag the sound lever from mid range to full volume.

Thank you so much, Michele and RAI (which I now know is Italia’s national public broadcasting company)!

Sending wishes that all the Flight Crew around the planet and our dear Ignazio, Piero, Gianluca and team have had a most precious Christmas Day and season,
    ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

    1. JDB,
they all were there, U can see Piero mum at the ends standing & calpping her hands and partially see Ignazio mum also but cameera was moving kind of fast. Younger brothers were more towards the back.
      Cheers everyone.

      1. Thanks so much, mlla, for tips on where to find the Boys’ families in the Basilica concert film by RAI.

Next viewing, I’ll see what I notice.

What a treasure of a concert! Even if “superiore” does mean upper in Italian, I will say it was also “superior” in English! (; >)

        ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  7. Thanks so much for this link. I stayed up late watching it last night and just watched it again today – so much for getting anything done! What a treat to see/hear the whole concert. They certainly seem to have a good rapport with the conductor, don’t they? And what great exposure for them in Italy. Jeanine, I think the parents were in the rehearsal audience but not on the actual performance one.
On Facebook today there was a link posted for another good Christmas interview that they did in Brazil. Again, the interviewer got them to relax and open up and it was fun to watch, even though they were apeaking Italian and he was speaking Portuguese. Here is the link

    Enjoy!

    1. Thanks for the interview link, Jenny. Wish I understood what they were saying, other than words here and there. Definitely another nice longer, as you say more relaxed, interview.

So, did I hear right that Ignazio figured it out by 3 years old that Papa Noel wasn’t real? He is so on the ball. Including his October revelation that angels exist.

Wish I could have understood what Piero said about Papa Noel. His little laugh was so cute.

Jenny, look for mlla’s response to me. She pointed out where the families were in the Saint Francis of Assisi concert. Thanks for your input, too.

Anyone out there want to give us a bit more details on the interview?

      In joy,
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. JDB, for u, forgive erros and omission. Bit rushy.

        PB ..O how they met
IB Explaining differences in voices and they do a cappella White Xmas

Explaining collaborations with famous singers and how they could learn from them

GG : Il Volo singing a mix between classical and pop and not only in Italian

At question when did you discover that Santa Claus did not exist GG saying he cried when his mother told him and he was abt 6/7m years old
Same with Piero when he discovered his uncle playing Santa Claus
Ignazio discovered it at about 3 years old, adding “ I was smart..”
Then when asked which Italian city/region they think is the best Gianluca said Rome Venice and Florence and Region of Tuscany and Sardinia, Piero Rome and Taormina, Ignazio prefers Marsala and Sicily

On Xmas: They like Christmas also because they know that they will be home.

Asked if they are in love they all said NO

On collaborating with Barbra Streisand Ignazio said it was an honor and a privilege to be part of her show because she is one of the living legends as she is a the most professional artist and a perfectionist in all she does singing, directing and acting and they will never forget it. Piero recalled that when she opened her mouth to sing it was like hearing the voice of an angel singing. Gian saying about his passion for American music/singers and recall how emotional he was in meeting her.

Abt soccer Ignazio like playing it and his favorite team is Juventus, Piero Milan and Gianluca told they would love to sing in Brazil for the opening ceremony of the World Championship.
Then all sing bit and pieces of some Brazilian songs.
On most famous Italian songs Quando quando by Tony Renis was mentioned, and they mention their producer and manager TR, MT HG, by they quoted O sole mio, the song that is the closing mark of their shows.

      2. mlla, I thought I replied with a BIG thank you, but now I don’t see it. So much appreciation for this translation in summary! Your contributions make such a difference for all of us.

        Take care,
        ~ Jeanine D.

    2. Thank you, Jenny, I can’t get enough of these ‘boys’, they are just remarkable. I want to thank all the Flight Crew for links, info. and friendships, it is just delightful to be in touch with others who love and respect the Il Volo boys and their families and managers. Thank you, thank you!! Happy, blessed new year. xxoo

    1. Loretta, ‘All Things Il Volo’ website has a couple of the links to Il Volo in Disney. They only sang the one song, but there were a couple of short clips of them throughout the program.

      1. Thanks LeeLee I hope you had a wonderful Christmas & presume you are going to live it up at New Year. Just be careful driving, cops will be out. Hope 2014 is prosperous for all of us especially our sweethearts. Hopefully their tour isn’t so stressful on them this year..

  8. Thank you for posting this concert. Absolutely beautiful. The boys were outstanding in voice and appearance. I agree so much with previous comment about how proud their parents must be.

  9. Wow…absolutely magnificent! The bar keeps raising higher and higher each time these superb singers take to the microphones. Pure joy listening to them. Seeing them in this beautiful setting…knowing they are performing IN their own beloved country is so wonderful. What a Christmas treasure for all of us to enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational performance. May you all feel the beauty and peace listening to Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio that they bestow on all who listen.

  10. I am so glad everyone is enjoying this video – I love it from the beginning with the snow falling to the very end! What a beautiful production, thanks to Rai. Il Volo steals the show! Steven Mecurio also conducted the orchestra for Il Volo Takes Flight Live from the Detroit Opera House. Watch the bonus documentary – I am pretty sure he is on it talking about his work with the guys.

    1. The best, Michele!

I enjoyed Steven Mercurio’s comments about the boys in that documentary. I wonder if I go back to it, will I be better able to identify which description fits each “boy”? (; >)

      ~ Jeanine D.

    2. I also was happy to see Steven Mercurio with the boys again. I was so impressed with him in the In Fight recording. And the symphony orchestra was so beautiful. Loved the boys in their gorgeous three piece suits. What a wonderful experience for them to have in their home country, and for us to have the privilege of sharing.

    1. Loretta, I was talking about a bonus documentary for Il Volo Takes Flight.  Sorry if I was not clear.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S®4

    1. Maryjane and Michele, I’ll check it out! I first saw the Takes Flight documentary when I was very new to the Boys.

Now they are very alive in my awareness. I’m amazed how I remember so well precious nuggets of what they say, even their intonation.

      (; >) ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. I understand and appreciate how you phrased, ‘remember so well precious nuggets…..’. My friends chuckle at me when I talk of them and repeat little things I have learned about them. I think there are SO many reasons why they are loved so much…they are began when they were so young and seem so very sincere and appreciative…it’s amazing to me how they lift our hearts and spirits, isn’t it?? xxoo Enjoy reading all the comments. ♥

      2. I know what you mean, Harriett!

BTW, for those who found, like me, that RAI only replayed the concert in the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi for 7 days…
I found another way to re-view the IL VOLO portion. Search YouTube for
Il Volo – Concerto di Natale – Assisi (26:05 total; and the grand finale begins 21:30 for Happy Christmas / War Is Over by John Lennon)
Also, I found 2 songs from the concert in HD on YouTube:
[HD] “O Holy Night ” (Adolphe Adam) Assisi Natale 2013
        and
[HD] “Ave Maria” (Franz Schubert) Assisi Natale 2013

Somehow the sound and image are not synced perfectly. I’m not sure how that is. I think it was correct on the replay.

I hope this is helpful to those who, like me, want to keep watching this over and over!

        In joy and gratitude,
        ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

  11. Thank you so much for posting this link. This concert was so beautiful and inspiring. Their voices were better than ever, superb!! I just can’t stop listening to Il Volo. They stood out above everyone else. THANK YOU!!!

    1. Now I found the concert playlist in HD, but I hesitate to put the link here, because it may imbed the entire playlist. I have the link on my Reflections Page underneath the We Are Love video.
(If you click on jrd1776 for this comment, I think it will take you there.)

Hope this helps. I LOVE this concert!

Thanks to Rai TV for the concert and the 7 days of replay, and now to Gio Hans B for uploading the playlist.

      Sweet night,
      ~ Jeanine DuBois, Compassion’s Doorway

      1. I am another one who keeps watching this concert over and over – it is perfection! After a disappointing look at Rai1 Replay, I discovered the concert on Youtube. They cut out parts of it, but all of Il Volo’s songs are intact – beautiful as ever! Here is the link:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUeM6-tcuYw
        Enjoy, enjoy!
Waiting for a video of today’s concert!
