‘Twas The Night…

Well…Here it is again folks (Thanks for asking Jana).

Buon Natale Everyone!

***

I have a need to post this poem I adapted (mangled) in 2013.  It’s my favorite for obvious reasons.   Yes…I plan to post it every year.  So, for the fourth fifth time…

twas-the-night

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the villa,
not a creature was stirring, not even Godzilla (couldn’t think of another rhyme)

When, what to my wondering eyes should I hear, (I take liberties)
but a song and three Boys, not tiny, but Dear! (lots of liberties)

I saw Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio too,
up to my rooftop, to my living room they flew!

They were dressed all in Armani, from their head to their foot,
but their clothes were all tarnished, with ashes and soot.

A bundle of love they had in their pack,
and they looked just like heaven, when I calmly stared back!

His eyes how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! (that really is a line!)
Piero’s glasses were there, the color of cherry! (that one’s not)

Gian said not a word but went straight to his work
and filled all my dreams with songs and a perk!

He’d left me Ignazio all covered with bows
and giving a nod up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his Fiat, to Piero gave a whistle,
and away they both flew, like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim as they drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, I hope Marie doesn’t bite!”

  15. Hi Marie. I do not recall hearing this priceless poem of yours, but I love it. I like all the Liberties you take and you express so well thoughts about the precious guys.
Merry Christmas to all the Flight Crew members . Thanks for a year full of great news and fun editorials. New Year’s wish: Il volo concerts in the US to at least promote their new album. Happy new year everyone.

  16. What happened to the part about Santa leaving Piero in front of my fireplace??? I’ve got a real cozy place for him….in my home.
Once a pirate, … always a pirate! *winks*

  17. I love your poems Marie and this one is no exception !! I have loved reading it five times and I belly laughed each and every time time !! I would love Gianluca to drive ( even though I know he doesn’t …drive !!) his Fiat to my house this year so I can give him a big hug !! LOL !! Wishing the administration and the entire Flight Crew a very Merry Christmas !! Have a wonderful day celebrating or just chilling out !!

    1. Hey Joanie. The fact that Gianluca doesn’t drive is, I’m sure, the reason he does not come to your house. Sure of it.
Hey! We need to have lunch again next time I’m in Fla.

  18. A very Merry Christmas to all the Flight Crew and may your New Year be blessed with joy, peace and good health!

  20. HI Maria You made my Christmas with that poem it was so cute and you can dream of IIgnazio and I;ll dream of Piero nothing could be better for me. You have a great Christmas miss your posts.

  21. I loved the poem. What a gift. I hadn’t heard it before. Sometimes I’m so glad I missed things because I haven’t been with the group for as long as some of you. I happily can share that I found these today and it looks like their most recent concert 11/23/2017. I am guessing it was the concert they did in Mexico.

It’s always fun when I can’t sleep and I have such beautiful voices to get me through the night. Love to all of you and have a Merry Christmas.

  22. Marie, precious as always!! I would not dare let a Christmas eve go by without this poem!

Yes, very snowy up here, but the sun is out and all is sparkly.

Igna is not under my tree, so he must be with you! 🙂

    Buon natale a tutti!

Grazie mille for everyone’s support this year!

    Jana

  23. Marie, I would love your poem no matter how many times you posted it.

A Very Merry Christmas to one and all. – Allene

  24. I never heard the 3 Tenors before now so I have just listened to them at a full concert. I also like Placido’s voice better than Pavarotti & Carerras. But no matter that these men are good singers. I still feel that the Il Volo boys are FAR superior to even them. All the singers I have listened to comparing Il Volo voices to other singers & now aso the 3 tenors even they can’t compare to Il Volo. Our guys are the BEST singers in the whole world hands down.

    1. Loretta, I did almost exactly the same thing you did and compared everyone’s voices. OK, I do think Pavarotti had the fullest voice. The 3 tenors can’t compare with anyone and probably shouldn’t have been in the discussion at all. Our boys have the most magnificent voices on the planet today. How we got so blessed to see them, meet them, and watch them grow into the most incredible talent the world has ever seen is a gift that I enjoy every single day. I just got a new Bose Soundlink Speaker and go to sleep with those voices every night. The YouTube sites for their last concert in Mexico 12/23/17 was wonderful. I pray for the boys every day and thank God for letting us be witnesses to this phenomena called Il Volo. Happy New Year Everyone and Blessings to all of you. Victoria

  25. I am the odd duck who is a pirate/church mouse but as I read what everyone has to say about the blessing that is IL VOLO, I think we need to give credit right back to the Source of their fabulous voices, their beautiful manners, humor, kindness, their loving connection to each other and their families. Three individuals that came together in the most fortuitous way… It wasn’t by accident. So give thanks to whomever you believe in: Jewish//Christian /Muslim God,, Buddha, the Mother, the Unknown or just to Fortuna. WE live in Blessed times to have such three such men in our midst … Oh yeah, as you await the New Year send up a prayer that more people turn to music and its gifts rather than hate and greed and the general craziness of our world., Peace be with all of you but most especially with Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio. May this new year bless you all

  26. You are such a blessing, Marie. I just Love your poem and your formidable sense of humor. (Ignazio truly doesn’t know what he’s missing (you!) poor guy!) This whole thread is delightful. You’re a human firecracker! 😂🔥🎉😆

  27. Marie – that Christmas poem was delightful. I loved every word and laughed all the way through. I needed your contribution. I celebrated my Birthday yesterday and am appreciating all my friends for not reminding me how old I am. Can I please just enjoy the day without remembering how blessed I am to be here when so many aren’t. We’re rushing to get to SF to celebrate our daughter and partner’s wedding. Parties galore this weekend…. Plus right out of the blue, they bought their dream home (closed in 3 Days – another miracle). I’ll need a lot of Baileys and the boy’s music playing constantly to get through the turmoil of being dragged all over SF …..and getting the girls moved into their house. Wish us well in survival mode for the New Year’s party. I don’t think I could do it without those darling boy’s voices in my head. (Phoebe has a red sequin dress for all the celebrations.). It’s already a Happy New Year for us and we wish all of you the same. Hugs and kisses from the Wilsons.

    1. Thank you for the good wishes for us all, Victoria ((hugs)). Best wishes for the happy couple. (I was married in SF, too, though some years ago, in St. John’s Wood area). That red sequined dress for the holidays must be beautiful. Have been very fond of sequins all of my life and glad they’ve never gone out of fashion.

    2. Happy Birthday, Victoria!
Maybe the girls will be settled soon and you can rest?

Funny thing I was just telling Jane that I was having a Bailey’s Christmas Eve with my sister.
