YOUR LOVE – SANREMO 2021 by Daniela

Despite the sad event that hit the Boschetto family, IL VOLO confirmed its presence in Sanremo.
It will certainly not be easy for our boys, and in particular, obviously for Ignazio, the sad loss is so close.

The various Italian newspapers have given the news, and I propose to you this one from Il Quotidiano.net

SANREMO 2021: Unforgettable Morricone. The song of Il Volo for dad Vito.

On stage at the Festival for dad Vito, who would have liked to hear him once again on that stage. After a short illness, Ignazio Boschetto’s father from Il Volo died last Sunday in Bologna, but tonight the trio will still be on the stage of the Ariston with his homage to Morricone, under the orchestral direction of his son Andrea, to collect the (virtual) applause of the publication of  this 71st edition.
Due to the Coronavirus, this year the Sanremo Festival will take place without an audience and with strict controls at the entrance of the singers in the theater. Inside, an uncontaminated environment has been created that must be kept as such by everyone. Before entering, each singer will have to measure their fever, have a mask and show a badge that will declare the result of the swab (test) performed.
And here Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca on their arrival at the Ariston theater.

IL VOLO arriving at the Ariston Theater – Click Here

MAN = Il Volo is coming, immediately the line to you!
WOMAN = Exactly, you can see live the controls of Il Volo, which at this moment are detecting the body temperature and then there is the screening of their pass.
(Piero and Gianluca arrive)
Temperature ok? You also have the negative test of course.
MAN= Can you give Ignazio a greeting and a hug from me?
PIERO = Here he is.
WOMAN = Ignazio is coming too, obviously we need to do the checks.
PIERO = (Ignazio arrives) They greet you from the study.
IGNAZIO = Hello
WOMAN = (to Ignazio) A hug from Alberto (man)
MAN = A hug to you three, are you excited for tonight?
PIERO = A lot, a lot. We are very excited.
GIANLUCA = It will be an honor for us to be able to pay homage to the greatest composer and artist, perhaps of all time, the great maestro Ennio Morricone, therefore, we will give our best.
WOMAN = I can say that in here they can take off the mask.
PIERO = But ……
WOMAN = You prefer to keep it, ok!
MAN = Let’s have a big “good luck” we look forward to Il Volo tonight on the Sanremo stage.
Guys, I hug you, hello Ignazio, my friend! See you tonight. (It is evident that the man sent messages of affection and closeness to Ignazio).
We are all in great expectation, we want to hear and see our dear guys, especially after all the bad times they are going through, especially for Ignazio and his family.
The tribute to Maestro Morricone began with a solo by the trumpeter, Nello Salza, who performed “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” and the musical performance of the orchestra which, led by Morricone’s son, Andrea, performed “Metti una sera a cena” (Put a night in dinner).
And here we are at their moment, I had great tension and emotion in listening, they deeply moved me, they performed YOUR LOVE, taken from the film “Once Upon a Time in the West”.
MAGNIFICENT!
Chills on the skin, pure emotion.
Amazing how Gianluca first, and then Piero, touch Ignazio to instill their closeness.
Ignazio starts the song by singing with his eyes closed and at the end of it he wipes his eyes. ❤
Incredible voices!

But here’s what was said.
AMADEUS = And now YOUR LOVE, which will see the extraordinary participation of IL Volo.
(the song begins, Andrea Morricone conducts the orchestra)
AMADEUS = Il Volo in Sanremo 2021.
I put myself between you so I give you a microphone to speak.
Thank you guys for being here, not only obviously from the Morricone family, but from the whole audience of the festival, even in an obviously difficult moment (he puts his hand on Ignazio’s shoulder to make it clear that it is a difficult moment for Ignazio ).
We are happy that you are here.
GIANLUCA + PIERO = Thank you.
IGNAZIO = Grazie mille.
AMADEUS = You are three much loved boys.
This evening is a special evening, because it is also the evening of the Italian voices that make Italian music known in the world, before you here there was , Laura Pausini, now you, and I think this is a satisfaction, also a pride, a considerable responsibility.
IGNAZIO=  It has always been our goal, since the first day we walked this stage, because we were born on this stage (Ti lascio una canzone)
AMADEUS = Let’s take a step forward and go in front of the microphones.
IGNAZIO = For us this evening was a great emotion, because for us Maestro Morricone means a lot, he is a symbol of Italy in the world, and for us to be able to remember him, to be able to start this project on this stage, with the great maestro Andrea Morricone it is an honor. (Andrea sends a kiss)
AMADEUS = There is a project that you rightly remember, on June 21 (maybe it’s a mistake because it’s June 5) you are planning a great concert dedicated to master Morricone, right?
PIERO = That’s right, we are working on this recording project, dedicated entirely to maestro Ennio Morricone, and we wanted to thank maestro Andrea Morricone and all his family, for their trust and support in this project we are working on.
AMADEUS = It’s Il Volo’s tribute.
GIANLUCA = Yes, it is a very accurate choice of songs, because we will sing soundtracks in both English and Italian from Once Upon a Time in America, to Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. We can’t wait to start this new journey, thank you very much again. (addressed to Maestro Andrea Morricone)

AMADEUS = And it will be yet another journey that will lead them to appreciate the music, in this case of Maestro Morricone, all over the world, as always. When there is Il Volo this happens. Il Volo in Sanremo. Thanks guys, thanks.
G + I + P = Thanks, see you soon.
AMADEUS = Thanks to maestro Andrea Morricone, thanks.

It was a great performance, the voices were wonderful, they touched me deeply.
I seemed to sense deep emotion also in Gianluca, Ignazio very tight and tired, Piero emotionally the strongest.

Always impeccable and suitable for various occasions.

After the performance, they went to a side room  for an interviewed by Rai Radio2 and the critic Gastaldo, who always gave them very low marks in Sanremo where they were as competitors.
I don’t translate everything, because they are already known, but this time Gastaldo tipped his hat to pay homage to the master Morricone. Then Il Volo confirmed the June event saying that there will also be televisions from America and Japan to televise the event. Finally they said that their CD entirely dedicated to Morricone will be released and that they hope to return to America towards the end of 2022.

The comments of some newspapers, of which I give you a brief overview..

IL MESSAGGERO

Now the three tenors represent an Italian pride in the world, and in this capacity they are guests at the 71st Italian song festival. So much emotion during their performance, a performance that certainly represented for the three also a dedication to Ignazio’s father, who died too soon. Strong the warmth of the social networks to surround them during the performance: many appreciate the decision not to give up their expected participation in the Ariston, a presence that, given the conditions, deeply moved the fans and the whole audience.

After the emotion of Laura Pausini, the Sanremo Festival takes off on the notes of Ennio Morricone. The homage to the maestro is entrusted to the trumpeter Nello Salza, who plays the theme of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, to his son Andrea Morricone who conducts the orchestra in “Metti una sera a cena” (Put a night in dinner), to the voices of Volo , in a preview of the concert event, scheduled for June, ‘Il Volo tribute to Ennio Morricone’.
“I am happy that you are here, even if in a very difficult moment – says Amadeus, ideally clinging to Ignazio Boschetto who has just lost his father – in an evening dedicated to the great Italian music in the world”.

OF HER

IL Volo – Ennio Morricone is great, we love him, and Il Volo proves to be up to par in paying homage to him. Conducting the Sanremo orchestra is the son of the great master and the emotion is great. Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble give us one of the most exciting moments of the second evening of Sanremo 2021.

Left to right: Gianluca, Ignazion and Piero singing on the Ariston stage

And finally a comment from the critic Monina, who has always spoken ill of our boys, but did not know them.
During Sanremo 2019 he met them and changed his mind, on them, on their skill.
Here’s what he wrote about them.
IL VOLO – voted a 9 rating
Now, I don’t think I am exactly the best person to point out that in the world the Italian music that is recognized as such is not that of Pausini, but that which has its roots in our remote past, which flirts with the arias, which marries important melodies, the Bel Canto, to put it in a couple of words that summarize what there is to be summarized. But so much so, and it is quite clear to many that in the world these three boys have made their way precisely by virtue of their being solidly good and equally solidly healthy carriers of those instances that see us as Verdi’s children, Puccini but also di Caruso and so on. I am not the most suitable person, because I usually deal with other things, but I believe that this truth must be recognized once and for all, and today more than ever. They were good at paying homage to the maestro Morricone, but more than anything else they are good and that’s it.  (how to say they are indisputably good)

Ok, there were some nice comments, but honestly, after such a beautiful and exciting performance, I expected a lot more from the Italian press, luckily, someone, like Monina, is recognizing their artistic value.
It doesn’t matter guys, people are with you, we all recognize your value, your indisputable skill, your great elegance and professionalism, for having been there despite everything.
The audience, ordinary and non-ordinary people, bow to you and are proud of you.
The road ahead of you is not easy, it never has been, but you have always shown us that you can overcome obstacles, with strength, will, hard work.
Keep it up, we love you. ❤️❤️❤️

  1. Grazie mille Daniela ❤ The guys were amazing, as much in their strength, support and commitment as in their emotionally exquisite version of this song. I was surprised there wasn’t more sympathy and warmth at the very least.. If I may share a thought, I think the deep emotion created when our guys sing makes some “critics” uncomfortable. Especially since this ability comes from smart, handsome, compassionate, and sincere young men. What guy would not like to create this melting emotion in their woman, or man. I guess jealousy is obvious, sad but obvious. As long as Il Volo keeps singing and growing we all win. I love them more after last night than ever before. Thank you again 💓

    1. You nailed it absolutely with your comment.
Bravo to Il Volo for leading in every way.
They are simply the best and I love them. 💞

  2. Thank you Daniela. I am so proud of these three guys, and especially Ignazio in this difficult, tragic time after losing his dad. I love their unity and support for each other. Love them. My heart has been braking 💔 and I have been crying daily since I found out about papa Boschetto’s death, it really took a courage of a lion, as Piero said, for Ignazio to perform this emotional song on stage. And what a fenomenal performance it was! My prayers are with him and his family. Sending all of them lot’s of love ❤

    1. Anna, I too am very proud of them, that’s why I get angry, when I see acknowledgments to artists with no value and few words for them, who instead deserve the best.

  3. Thank you so much for this beautiful message. I am still emotional and I cry every time I listen to this exquisite performance. These beautiful young men are what every parent would want for a son. They are kind, caring, loving, strong, humble, real, gentle, sweet and along with all of that they have an incredible talent. Now we can mention that they are so handsome. I am so thankful that I found them by mistake on Facebook and I was completely in love with these gorgeous young men. I know that I speak for all of their fans and hope that they continue to share their talent and themselves with us for many years to come. They are one of the best things that have ever happened to me. May God bless you and keep you always.❤️❤️❤️

      1. Daniela, I want to ask: when I first met them I was sure they were brothers and then I read that everyone lives in a different place …. apart from the time they are in shows do they see each other even after the shows?

  4. Daniela, grazie, grazie, grazie, grazie mille for all of your time and the hard work you put in to this translation, for the additional information regarding the comments of the critics, your valuable comments, and for sharing it with us so quickly.

I have watched the emotional performance many times since last night, and each time the thoughts that come to my mind are that our guys sounded like a choir of angels, and that Vito and Maestro Ennio had their arms around them giving them the strength and support they needed to perform the perfect song.

My love, thoughts, and prayers go out to the Boschetto Family, especially to Ignazio, as well as to his lL Volo brothers, Gianluca, and Piero. ❤️🤗🙏

    1. Yes, Mary Jane, the lyrics of the song really were that right with what happened. Ignazio sang with his eyes closed, perhaps he was thinking back to the good times past!

  5. Thank you so much. I am crying now almost as much as when my mother died. They are so brave, talented, and I could see the emotion trying to be held back. Much love to them all.

  6. I know not the words to express for IL Volo’s voices. Solo or together no one compares to them. I was never a fan of the screaming kind of opera, but IL Volo captured my mind and heart when I heard them sing, and I love their music. I like opera, but it must be soft and a bit like a tune… does that make sense? No matter, each of us has our own preferences and I wish I could have heard the guys sing. My heart breaks for Ignazio and he is one guy to be proud of for honoring his parents and graciously performing in spite of his father’s death. My heart aches for him, it is difficult to lose your parents and you feel alone afterwards, but with his sister, Nina and his Mom, they will be together and will have memories to laugh about in time. Thank you Daniella for the words to describe the event, and please know I am a life long fan forever. I wish each one lots of love and a big hug to each from me. I call IL Volo “my guys” and they are forever in my heart!

    1. In reality all of us, we hear Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca, as “our boys”, and they are.
Because what they offer us is not only skill and professionalism, but also affection and heart and we love them so much for this.

  7. Thank you so much, Daniela, for all your hard work. Last night’s performance was so exceptional. We could feel the strong bond between Gian, Piero and Igna. I don’t think I ever heard Gianluca sing as movingly before, Piero was so strong and as for Ignazio, the simple fact that he was there and that he sang must have taken the heart of a lion. The funny guy from Il Volo has a lot more depth to him that many gave him credit for. Will all my love, respect and prayers.

    1. Renée, these guys are very close, their mutual affection has been felt and seen. They don’t hide what they feel, they are like three brothers.

  8. Grazie Mille IL Volo, you Ignazio Piero, Gianluca….. BRAVO….I admire your talent and love foe one another. God Bless you ……stay strong the world love you all. Bravissimo!🥂🌹☦️♥️

  9. Daniela, I can’t thank you enough for this accurate report. Our guys really are a family not just business partners Yes, they are professionals and know the show must go on. Their passion for their work, their interpretation of the song, the delivery, all came together for them to outdo themselves. They always sing with great emotion and this performance proved their professionalism and love for each other. You cold tell Maestro Andrea Morricone was more than pleaseed with Il Volo Most definitely Ennio Morricone and Vito Boschetto were in the hearts of our guys as they sang this befitting song. You answered my question from another post when I asked if someone could translate what Ignazio was saying to the host. Thank for you your detailed report.

    1. Doris, you said well, they are not just business partners, it is a bond of mutual love that keeps them together.
They showed great professionalism in attending Sanremo equally and great and deep affection, thus interpreting that beautiful song. I had seen your message and I was hoping you were referring to something I was already translating. There’s another translation coming up and you’ll love it.

  10. Daniela, thanks as always for your great reporting of events involving Il Volo and for doing this so quickly. We were all waiting to hear them sing and make sure they were alright. It was an emotional, beautiful and very professional presentation . I cannot think how Igna was able to sing that very poignant song which seemed written for he and his dad. The guys all show such class, poise and support for one another. Big respect.
    Grazie Daniela and Pat

    1. You’re most welcome, Janet! This song and their performance of it brought me to tears! Such class and strength they have to be able to do this.

    2. I completely agree Janet. They always know how to behave in any situation, but this was a very special situation indeed and they were very professional. Despite this we have seen the great affection that binds these guys.

  11. Wonderful!! Thank you for your translation of the reviews of which we would never get to read without your kindness to do this. That song was magic. It really is a heart stopper, and knowing the circumstances surrounding Ignazio made it so, so special. Thank You.

    1. Kathy, I immediately thought that you might like to read the reviews. We always try to give you something more and not make you lose anything. And we are happy that this pleases you.

  12. Thankyou Daniela once again for your amazing pieces, the performance was stunning, this particular song already full of great emotion was lifted into another realm by II Volo due to to the devistating loss of Senor Boschetta. Not only a loving husband and father to his immediate family but to Piero Gianluca and the whole II Volo family, the bond between the 3 guys was never more evident than when they walked onto the stage. From the moment those first notes were sung my tears started not only for Ignazio Piero and Gianluca knowing what strength and courage that it was taking to give an outstanding performance but for my father who had song played at his funeral he loved it so many memories for me. Thankyou again for your translations. 💔🇦🇺

    1. Thanks Ros, for this nice comment.
Yes, the boys sang with great affection, because they are part of a “big extended family” and what is pain for one, is also for others.

  13. Many thanks Daniela for a wonderful article and translations. The guys sang beautifully under stress that is unimaginable. This brought me to remember the emotions at the of the death of my father and then of my mother 20 years later. The ones we love continue to be there as time passes as we remember what they said, what they believed, what they taught us. The older I get I see my mother’s expressions as I look in the mirror or see my father’s cheekbones. They are part of me. Nearly every day I want to tell them something that has happened in that day. No, the memory never fades. Vito will always be there as a part of Ignazio.

    1. Jeanette, what you wrote is so true.
The memory of Vito will always remain in Ignazio and as time passes it will become stronger and stronger and will remember many small adventures that the two of them had during the long periods, united, but far from the affections of home.

  14. I have no words, just beautiful emotions!
    💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤
    Grazie mille Daniela! 🤗😘

    1. Intense and deep emotions, Deborah, it is the same for me.

There will soon be a good news linked to our dear Ignazio and to the places in Sicily that you know well by now.

  15. Heartfelt thank you, Daniela — and love and thankfulness for you gift and courage.

  16. Thank you very much Daniela and Pat for posting this beautiful article. The guys were incredibile, the performance was so emotional, I had chills all over my body and tears in my eyes. No words to describe. I’m very sad for Ignazio on the loss of his father, but it’s great to see the support the boys have to each other. Ignazio is so brave, in this difficult time he did not want to fail his brothers and fans, although no one would blame him. By the way, before the performance, at the time of commercials was broadcast a trailer of new series and I’m sure I heard the voice of Ignazio singing the song. Is it possible? Ancora grazie mille

    1. Yes, Jolanta, you are right. As I waited for the commercials to pass, I clearly heard Ignazio’s voice and my heart stopped. It’s him, his beautiful voice. We are looking for news to better update you on this project. The first episode of the fiction will be on March 15th.

  17. Once again you have given us a complete review of the night… Il Volo came to the stage with the desire to perform a beautiful song…They were outstanding!!! They sang with such emotion that they left us in tears…You cannot watch the video without tears streaming down your face…
I thank you for your dedication to Il Volo and to us fans by doing such a great job in translating… Without you, most of us would not know what was said in interviews with IL Volo…It appears that this performance knocked the socks off of the most not so nice critics of the past…They finally gave credit to our guys for they now realize what the world has always known… Il Volo is loved because they are the best of the best in the world…

    1. Yes Jeannette, it was so nice to see them and interpret that beautiful song with deep affection and emotion, admirable.
You don’t know, we Italian fans, how much we enjoyed reading Monina’s report card, she had written terrible things after Notte Magica. For us it is a further confirmation that those who know them personally, then love them.

  18. Oh Daniela, you publish a very deeply poignant post.
And the performance of our boys of Your Love – deeply poignant. Very moving.
    I was eagerly awaiting this.
    Thank you, cara amica.
(Yes, I also sensed a deep deep feel from Gianluca, Piero too. Igna as well. And as you, I too sensed a stability from Piero.)
(And I was wondering who designed the suits😉)
    Grazie, cara amica🥰

      1. Yes, Cynthia, as always, indeed, more than ever, their voices and their emotions touched us in the depths of the soul.

I always try to give a fashionable answer in the posts too.

  19. You two ladies are great, knowing that you give us this extra time of your busy days to give us the latest info concerning our guys.
Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero have just proved to everyone that they will honor their commitments ~ ‘come what may’ ~ they are the real professionals!
I loved reading all the comments above and I agree with them all.

    1. Ineke, we couldn’t leave all the crew in the dark about what happened and what was said, so we rolled up our sleeves and ….. done !!

      Our boys are fantastic.

  20. This has drained me emotionally, my heart breaks for everyone in the Il Volo family. In the interview after their performance, Piero and Gianluca said, Ignazio has the strength of a lion. To be able to get through that evening, they all had the strength of lions. I’m sure Vito would have said, Well done my young men, well done. Grazie mille.

  21. First I want to thankyou Daniela for the link to the performance. I was able to watch it live in New York and that made it all the more emotional. This was a lovely tribute to the boys. I too thought they looked tired and the sadness was evident. The tears came as soon as they started and I tear up everytime I watch it. I honestly don’t know how they made it thru the whole song. Words can’t describe what amazing young men they are. I believe Vito was watching over them and always will be. I was so proud of them . Their parents have raised three beautiful boys and I am so glad we get to share their lives.God bless them always.

    1. Cathy, I’m glad you were able to follow everything live.

It was really very moving and they were … immense … shivers on the skin, I wanted to hold them tight, in particular Ignazio and say, we are here.

  22. Thank you Daniela. I am glad that the critics had something nice to say. All I did is cried.

    1. Regina, we are all so sad and close to Ignatius and family.

Yes, the critics are on the right track but there is still a long way to go.

  23. Thank you, Daniela, for the wonderfl article. Words cannot epress how exquisite are the voices of these three young men. They are truly so dear. How immensely sad it must have been for Ignacio, yet the performance was, as usual, perfect in every way. May God bless them always. Dena Pitchfork, Mercer Island, Washington U.S.A.

    1. Yes Dena, she sang with the thought up there.
I believe that Ignazio and his family, in this last month, have lived through a very bad period and perhaps not being able to do anything, they will have hoped that everything would end soon.

  24. Wonderful performance!!! Very sad, without an audience😥💜😥 Our three pets again showed style, will and dignity! Papa Vito was a happy father with three talented and close-knit sons! They showed all this on stage🖤🌿

    1. Yes Antonela, this year Sanremo had a very particular context, but this perhaps, in the case of Ignazio, was really better, I don’t know if he would have endured seeing so many people.

  25. Daniela, thank you so much for this post. What a beautiful performance at such an awful time. Strength and courage and sheer talent made it happen, and now I admire Il Volo as well as love them. My condolences to the Boschetto family, and a huge thank you to Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero for honoring your commitment to appear at San Remo. Take good care of each other.

  26. Yesterday when watching the interviews and not understanding a word I knew that I could count on you to translate it for us I can’t say how thankful I am for the whole crew. I was so proud of the guys and how they got through that song I will never know except that they are so dedicated. I think of the guys as my family and listen to their great voices everyday and truly love them as if they were my own.

    1. I am very happy that I was helpful in helping you understand the interviews. Stay with us, there will be more interviews and good news!

      Yes, they are “our guys”

  27. As always, thank you very much for all the information, the translations, etc. Considerable work and greatly appreciated. Has anything been published about Mr. Boschetto’s funeral? Or maybe the family wanted it to be strictly private, without any media?

    1. No, Renée, nothing has leaked, except that she was in Marsala and the time. But it was a strictly personal function. No official announcement from the family, neither in Bologna nor in Marsala. The Boschetto family preferred to keep everything in private, moreover you must also consider that the Covid moment does not allow to attend religious services in excessive numbers.

  28. Thank you for the information. Apart from Covid, I absolutely understand the family’s wish for privacy. In such sorrow, you don’t want people, however well-meaning, to gape at your grieving face and, worse still, take pictures. Better to simply pray for them and send them good thoughts. Again, thank you, Daniela.

  29. I keep coming back to this site as it is the only place the whole rendition of Your Love seems to be available. What wonderful voices and what a wonderful expression of love from Gianluca and Piero to Ignazio to help him through this very emotional experience. God bless them!!
