Hi Everyone.

Tonight’s concert is at The Teatro Municipal in Rio De Janiero Brazil.

Here is a little history of Rio, considered to be one of the most Beautiful cities in the World.

Rio de Janeiro (/ˈriːoʊ di ʒəˈnɛəroʊ/, /deɪ ʒəˈnɛəroʊ/, /deɪ dʒəˈnɛəroʊ/; Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁi.u dʒi ʒɐˈnejɾu], January River), commonly referred to simply as Rio, is the capital city of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the second largest city of Brazil, and the third largest metropolitan area and agglomeration in South America, boasting approximately 6.3 million people within the city proper, making it the 6th largest in the Americas, and 26th in the world. Part of the city has been designated as a World Heritage Site, named “Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea”, identified by UNESCO on 1 July 2012 in the category Cultural Landscape.

Founded in 1565, by the Portuguese, the city was initially the seat of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, a captaincy of the Portuguese Empire. It later, in 1793, became the capital of the State of Brazil, a State of the Portuguese Empire. In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the Prince Regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental Lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began. It subsequently served as the capital of the independent monarchy, the Empire of Brazil, until 1889, and then the capital of a republican Brazil until 1960.

Rio de Janeiro represents the second largest GDP in the country (and 30th largest in the world in 2008), estimated at about R$343 billion (IBGE/2008) (nearly US$201 billion), and is headquarters to two of Brazil’s major companies—Petrobras and Vale, and major oil companies and telephony in Brazil, besides the largest conglomerate of media and communications companies in Latin America, the Globo Organizations. The home of many universities and institutes, it is the second largest center of research and development in Brazil, accounting for 17% of national scientific production—according to 2005 data.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the most visited cities in the southern hemisphere and is known for its natural settings, carnival celebrations, samba, Bossa Nova, balneario beaches such as Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon. Some of the most famous landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer (“Cristo Redentor”) atop Corcovado mountain, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar) with its cable car; the Sambódromo, a permanent grandstand-lined parade avenue which is used during Carnival; and Maracanã Stadium, one of the world’s largest football stadiums.

The 2016 Summer Olympics and the Paralympics will take place in Rio de Janeiro, which will mark the first time a South American or a Portuguese-speaking nation hosts the event. It will be the third time the Olympics will be held in a Southern Hemisphere city. On 12 August 2012, at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Mayor Eduardo Paes received the Olympic Flag, via Jacques Rogge, from London Mayor Boris Johnson. Rio’s Maracanã Stadium, which held the final of the 1950 FIFA World Cup, will host the final match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Rio de Janeiro also hosted the World Youth Day in 2013.

Twitters, Tweets and Keeks:

Gianluca seems to be going through a range of emotions lately. We suspect he’s a little homesick, which is understandable. Here are some of his recent tweets: ” Nervous, tired, sleepy” ” Spent time at the gym” “Going to sleep with a smile on my face” “Take all of me” “Paul the king #PaulMccartney” and today “Going to…Rio De Janeirooooooo!!! Just an hour ago he tweeted “Greetings from Rio De Janeiro”, “Here in Copacabana Beach.”

Piero Yesterday, “Interviews time” and “The next language I speak is Portuguese.”

Ignazio, Nothing new from him. We’re just glad he’s feeling better and of course that he has wifi!

Team Il Volo Has a new article “The Boys from Il Volo argue all the time, but their voices stay in key on stage” Cute article, translated from Spanish. I think it shows that like all brothers, they have their arguments.

All Things Il Volo has a new fan story and some great photos, have a look!

This is a link to a video from The Gran Rex in Argentina. Can’t tell if Gianluca forgot the words or Ignazio forgot to sing. It’s adorable!

I sent the link to my sister, she wrote back “I loved it, shows they can make a boo boo and turn it into fun” So true!!

We are so glad all of you are here to celebrate these talented young men. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us!!!

Josie, let us know what concert you are attending!!’

The Peoples Choice nominations were just announced and I’m sorry to say Il Volo was not nominated!! Frustrating! but we know there are plenty awards ahead and Il Volo will be winning them! Thanks Marie for the information!

Love and luck tonight Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca!

  1. Loved the clip, it looks like Gianluca did indeed space out, but how sweet of Ignazio, who jumped right in and gave him such a big hug, bet this was when Gianluca was ill. Gianluca is the consummate professional and would not screw up if he felt well.

  2. Just makes them all that much more human and lovable!

Nice post Linda! When I think of Rio I think of the statue, the colorful carnivals and old Bing Crosby – Bob Hope Movies. Now, I’ll also think of The Boys. Like I need something else to remind me!

    1. Thanks, Loretta! (I posted about this, as many of us did, on I’m smiling because…)

We definitely don’t just love them for perfection. We love them for their genuine sweet hearts, magnificent voices, brotherly love, and so much more.

Love what your sister said, Linda!
      ~ Jeanine D.

  3. Knowing that Gianluca is a perfectionist I will wager that he felt really bad when this happened. Time for a hug. It has happened to everyone at some time or another. When I saw them in LA he dropped a phrase in “Tous les Visages de l’Amour” – no big deal. Ignazio had done it this last week and Piero did it earlier.

    1. M, I agree, this was just a proof, if ever needed, that they sing LIVE! In the end that turned out to be a nice ‘happening’ in a live and lively show, so Gian should not at all feel bad about it ;)) he is human too a machine (considering the boys were all either sick or tired or both) hopefully they feel better now, their health and well being is the most important thing and comes first ! Career is consequential
      Cheers to all!
Just hope my thoughts come through as I intend them in my mind, as sometimes to express oneself in another language can create communication gaps or misunderstandings so pls bear with me.

      1. Ops, between “human too and …… a machine” pls insert NOT,
sorry but lately PC and I have are having a quarrel

  4. This is just too precious. Loved the way Ignazio gave Gianluca the two arm salute when he came in on the next part. Is it just me or has Ignazio’s voice become much fuller and richer since last year?

  5. Thanks Linda. You just keep producing quality posts.

That Team Il Volo article is just hysterical. Three very passionate young men arguing their points. Would love to see that in person. They could sell tickets.

Very different personalities, very different voices, but together watch and listen to the explosion!

  6. It proves that they are brothers in all the ways that count. Brothers argue and disagree and still love each other at the end of the day. 🙂

And so we weren’t successful in pushing them onto the ballot, but I bet we made enough noise that people wondered who the heck this Il Volo was? 😉

  7. Linda, well done, Only I missed you didn’t say anything about the Theatre as you used to in every concert. The Teatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful theatre in the word, built in 1909.
About the concert, I am gonna decide if I will on nov 13. I have some issues to solve before that´s is killing me.(lol) I´ll let you know.

  8. It shows just how professional they have become. And Ignazio stepped in just when Gianluca needed him. What a wonderful young man he is. All of us, I am sure, have suffered a mental block at one time or the other and wished we had an Ignazio to help us out.

  9. I’m relatively new to blogs twitter etc. Where would I find the article by Team Il Volo? I found the clip to be amusing as I am sure Nazio intended rather than embarrassing to Gianluca. Proves the bond between these guys

  10. Interesting write up on Rio De Janiero, Linda. Just in time for me to learn more about the city before the 2014 World Cup. Josie, the world will be watching for the biggest match in the world. You must be proud and excited that it is hosted by Brazil.

Lynn, did you get Sir Paul’s new album – New? I know he was your #1 favorite (now replaced by our guys). I will get it the next time I visit a “T” store since my dear Gianluca mentioned listening to it on twitter couple times already. If he likes it that much it must be good. Guys, enjoy your time at Brazil and stay well.

  11. Wonderful, informative info. on Rio! Thank you!! My wish is that Gianluca will sing The Girl From Ipanema!!! He sang one line from it long ago during an interview and it was TO DIE FOR. 🙂

  12. I saw the clip where Gianluca forgot the words – what a recovery that Ignacio made! I’m sure they do other goofs, also – they are not infallible (just like us). Hope they return to California sometime!

  13. Last time I missed the pbs special. Does anyone know if it will be shown all over on Nov 30th at just different times during the day? Or do you think each state depending on your area will have it on different days?

    1. Hi Michele
There are going to be a lot of good PBS specials at the end of the month, including the Barbra Streisand concert in Brooklyn–this one has our boys also! As far as I have been able to glean, the Streisand one is scheduled for November 29 at 9:00–I think it is supposed to be nationwide, but it is always good to check local listings. Then Buon Natale is supposed to be November 30–I have no idea how often they will repeat either one.
And for anyone who is interested the week before on November 24 there is a show honoring Carol Burnett hosted by Julie Andrews and Tina Fey.
That also is supposed to be nationwide.

  14. Still me sorry, while waiting for Portuguese songs can I just set the clock back for once?
A very emotional GG with Giuliana Danzè (she is also good and now making a career in Italy and Canada) in “Vivo per lei” very prophetic song ! translated is “I live for her” (u probably know that the subject of song’s lyrics is the MUSIC) Hope the link will activate when posted

    1. Thanks for this and welcome, mlla! I remember Giuliana also because she gave Gianluca a kiss after Bocelli’s congratulatory speech to GG in 2009.
I enjoyed this 2008 song from Guiliana.
Giuliana Danzè – Grande grande grande

Linda and Josie, thanks for the wonderful info on Rio.

I just watched a Sinatra duet video of the Girl from Ipanema. So weird! He was smoking on stage while singing! It is a different world now. Thank God Our Guys would never do that to their voices or their lungs!

I keep listening to the Righteous Brothers’ Unchained Melody. Love it! I wonder if our guys could take it on. Is it steering too far afield of operatic pop, or could Gatica work something up so that it worked?

Grateful for innocence, love, and glorious passionate voices!

  15. Thanks mlla, I use to watch this one occasionally. Haven’t seen it in a long time. I use to even watch her career on YouTube. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. Thought u knew it 😉 I see you r very prepared on italian music/ians! She done recently a smashing Barbra Streisand hit Dont rain on my parade, and a version of Lady is a tramp, she can swing. That tv programme was particularly blessed that year the Boys of course and a couple of other talents, the stars were aligned !
Well enough for today, by x now & thanks for the hospitality, hope Ignazio has fully recovered, he got so thin.Till next …

    1. Me too! Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews always had a good time together–they are good friends. with Tina Fey mixd in, there is bound to be plenty of music and laughs. As for the other two specials–our boys are special already!

  16. Thanks Linda! I guess I should just keep checking the PBS line ups. My dad lives in SC so I want to make sure he gets to watch it too. He is the one that got me hooked on them. 🙂

  17. Have just been watching some of the boys videos on you tube, and one of the many things I especially love hearing is when they have a powerful group ending, or what you think is the ending, to a song, and then after the sound stops reverberating through the theater, they reenter with a soft finish. Sometimes that same pause will come in the middle of a song. Very effective!
I mention this because I ran across a quote that speaks of this very thing. It’s by a pianist but fits perfectly…….

The notes, I handle no better than many pianists, but the pauses between the notes, ah, that is where the art resides!
    Artur Schnabel

Ah, IL VOLO, That is where the art resides!!

    1. Like many of you, I was surfing around on Youtube, and stumbled across this video by accident. It’s another example of the love between Our Guys for each other. Just watch it – the ending will surprise you! I didn’t know they did this. Nobody mentioned it anywhere, which is surprising since it was in the middle of a show. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuVHCD3iB_c

  18. This is a wonderful “Maria” video for any IL VOLO lover, and especially at the end for those taken by Piero.
Il Volo Brasil – Maria – São Paulo – 06.11.13

Saw your sweet Tweet, too, Elizabeth! Made me smile.

  19. Is it my imagination or are Piero and Ignazio getting more attention then Gianluca lately ? More photos of them and at concerts Piero ad Ignazio always seem to be romping and have their arms around each other. Gian looks left out at times and I feel badly for him. What do you think ?

  20. Sorry for the confusion, mlla. People (me) sometimes go in and reply later to a comment. That’s why the time is sometimes out of order. I don’t know about the related question. They don’t usually disappear.

    1. don’t be sorry! ; ) PC have a mind of their own and time zone does not help, just be patient if my posts look oddly out of context at times

  21. Joan, I have noticed the same thing. They use to include him more often in the past.
