911 Remembered ~ Janis Rahner Blank

I started writing a remembrance of that awful day.  Then I read this and it was better.

From Janis Rahner Blank – posted in Piero Barone’s Romantica

September 11…today is one of my elevens. It was my grandmother’s birthday. But something else happened on this day that must never be forgotten. Fifteen years ago today, our country was attacked…in New York, and in Washington DC. Almost 3000 people lost their lives…policemen, firemen, first responders, members of the military, residents, and workers…all going about their daily routines. I was doing the same thing..working..when I heard what happened. The rest of the day was like moving in slow motion, in a dream. On September 12, my husband and I sat in the car at a busy intersection, waiting for the light to turn green. I looked ahead, as I had done every work day, toward the east and the New York skyline. But that gorgeous view, some 20 miles away, was no more. It was almost 24 hours since the attack and all I could see was a large plume of smoke rising in the air and drifting off over the ocean. Those gorgeous One World Trade Center buildings that glistened in the sunlight for me on every clear morning, were gone. I don’t think anything in my life has ever affected me like the events of September 11, 2001. I think almost every day of all those who lost their lives in New York, in Washington, DC, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. They were brave souls who will never be forgotten.
Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero, thank you for being here for us in times of sorrow. You help us to get through these moments with your music and videos and the good memories we have of seeing you in concert and meeting you. We know your thoughts are with us today and for that and all your sweet, caring ways…WE LOVE YOU!! eleven

Beautiful!  Thank you Janis.

  1. I’m sending the beauty of each person’s Own Highest Best Self from their entire existence to their self now and their self in any time of trauma (to be accepted or not, as each one wishes).

For, as our precious IL VOLO remind us,

  2. Janis, that was beautifully said. I remember the day all too well! The day before we were celebrating my brothers birthday and then this happened. We all were crying and wondering if our loved ones were injured or our coworkers were coming into work around the time and if they were okay. That day became a blur after the tragedy we so well remembered. I prayed that day for all the people that were there and were so stunned and in a panic. Work had the TV brought out for us to look at what was happening and it was like a nightmare.
God Bless everyone and protect us all!

  3. Beautiful and from your heart Janis . We all do remember where we were and the shock we all were feeling on that tragic day. It is imprinted in our minds forever. I hope all the families and friends who lost a love one that day have filled the painful void in their hearts with happiness and peace of mind. . For all those many souls we lost that day…RIP.❤️

  4. I am still crying for that day. Our beautiful land was severely wounded. 11 is an infamous. number since my love Ron died on the 11 in 2011. The date is engraved in my soul.Joanie G

  5. I remember all too well that tragic morning. My husband & I were & still are avid viewers of the Today Show. Suddenly news began to filter in on a plane crashing into the towers. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Those fallen souls will not be forgotten. Thank you Janis & God Bless America.

  6. I too cannot forget the awful feeling of utter horror of that morning. It can still give me nightmares. Let us pray we never again have to face something like this.
Peace, comfort and love to all who were touched in some way on that horrible day.

  7. After my husband died (16 years ago), my best way to honor him and to function in my life was to be as authentic and vibrantly alive as I could.
    Treasuring each moment. 💝

IL VOLO helps me be present now and honor all who have passed on by experiencing my life to the fullest!

Loving gratitude to all tender hearts,
    Jeanine
