Food for Thought

I thought this was interesting, it’s from “The Huffington Post”.

Donald Trump Makes Dubious Claim About Inauguration Singer Jackie Evancho

Here is part of that article:

“Only Trump’s claims that Evancho’s “album sales have skyrocketed after announcing her inauguration performance” are being called into question. Especially in cause and effect.

Vanity Fair noted that the 16-year-old Evancho’s latest offering is a Christmas album, so it stands to reason that sales would increase as the holiday approached.

In terms of numbers, Billboard offered interesting tidbits. The music trade outlet acknowledged that sales of Evancho’s “Someday At Christmas” did rise after the Dec. 14 announcement that she would sing the national anthem at the inauguration ― but “skyrocket” might be pushing it.”

Forget the politics…Another article says the shelves had to be stocked twice with her album.  Several of us were watching when Jackie made the announcement on the Today Show that day.  Humm….I wonder if there might have been another reason for her rise in sales the day she sang with IL Volo?

  1. Hi, Marie. You said “Forget the Politics”, but obviously many people do not like Trump, and that is fine. Jackie Evancho sang for Obama at his Inauguration. Maybe her songs skyrocketed because she has the nerve to do what most celebrities will not. And I am talking about Andrea Bocelli and others. Apparently Mr. Bocelli and Mr. Trump are good friends, but unfortunately people “cave” in when they may be boycotted. I NEVER cave in to my beliefs, whether right or left. I’m sorry, Marie, but when you said “Forget the Politics”, it just opened the door for me. I wonder how many others will or will not give their opinions on this website! I read the Huffington post article. I know that you are talking about when she sang with Il Volo on the “Today” show and maybe that’s why her records “skyrocketed.” But you brought up the Huffington Post Article and President-Elect Trump. I feel that politics should not be brought up on this website in any way! I am sorry if I have upset you or anyone else on this website.

      1. LIKE I SAID YOU MENTIONED HER SKYROCKETING BECAUSE OF SINGING WITH IL VOLO ON THE TODAY SHOW, BUT YOU ALSO BROUGHT UP THE ARTICLE ON THE HUFFINGTON POST AND ALSO SAID “FORGET THE POLITICS”. I AM SORRY, BUT THIS WEBSITE SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS, INCLUDING THE HUFFINGTON POST AND WHAT TRUMP SAID ABOUT HER SKYROCKETING BECAUSE SHE WAS SINGING AT HIS INAUGURATION. SORRY, MARIE. THAT IS JUST HOW I FELT ABOUT YOUR POST

  2. AND ALSO, MARIE, I THINK MAYBE HER CD’S “DID” SKYROCKET BECAUSE SHE HAS THE NERVE TO SING AT TRUMPS INAUGURATION, AS NO ON ELSE DOES HAVE THE NERVE.

  3. I am not going to get into a political discussion. I think being on the Today Show may have reminded people that Jackie has a beautiful voice and that her CD would be a great addition to their Christmas music collection. And having Il Volo on the Little Drummer Boy cut of her album certainly would make their fans want to own it also. I hope she continues singing with other wonderful artists and I wish her well! Obviously I love the boys!

  4. This “may” be my last post, but I am surprised no one has commented. You, of all people, get the most replies and comments. Is it because of what I said or because they do not want to say that they agree with what I said. The Huffington Post is a political website and all I meant to say is that this website should only be about Il Volo and their concerts, interviews, etc. and all the memories and interactions we have had with Il Volo. I have always told you that I love your sense of humor and your posts. You always crack me up. I just was very disturbed by your post. Okay, Marie. I am done now.

  5. As I’d mentioned before, everyone who comments, or authors something on this site, should not fear the judgment of others. I believe this website supports the US principles of the constitution and the first amendment of free speech. We portray a united and global front to promote the talent and love of our guys. But like any true patriot, love of country and pride, often shines through. Even our beloved guys, as much as they know they are revered worldwide, they still have much pride in their country, even though their own country did not even support them in the beginning.

Like it or not, trump is the president elect, which will be confirmed, ironically today, Jan 6, by the electoral college.

Personally, I only bought jackie’s cd because the guys were on it and I have to say I was a little disappointed in it. I think she sang better when she was younger and I swear she was flat on a few songs. She’s cute and all, but I don’t think she is all that great. She has sung for obama before, so I highly doubt because she is singing for trump is why her sales increased. Aretha Franklin sang for Obama’s inauguration. I’m from Detroit, but that did not make me go and buy her cd? I do believe it was a good chunk of il volo fans, as well as placido fans, and Peter hollens, and vittorio grigolo fans, who were also featured on her cd!

The guys want to sing at the white house. Maybe jackie will put a good word in for them to trump? 🙂

    1. Thanks for the link. I have to say, I’m very saddened by our countrymen. The Republicans of our nation were saddled with Obama for 8 years, and none of them acted like the crybabies the democrats have been acting like. Trump is trying to play nice and bring the country together by inviting opposing politically minded persons, as well as talented artists like il volo and jackie. It’s a shame the country and world can’t at least agree on beautiful artistry and put aside politics for a moment.

      1. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Never has there been a similar reaction to an election. I can’t believe grown people in the public eye are acting the way they are.

    2. I must say I am sorry to read these articles and must admit I tweeted President Elect Trump to have Il Volo sing at his Inauguration. I never think it is wise for people to comment on politics when they are from another country. I would never presume to comment on what is going on in Italy even if I had traveled there extensively. You can’t possibly know what is really happening and how our country is doing unless you live here.

      1. Especially if your only information on the subject comes from the major newspapers and TV stations.

      2. Margaret, when boys do not want to sing for Trump, it is their decision, which should be respected , for me is good , because music has nothing to do with politics , and as humans, they have right to say their opinion on it. They are smart young guys, who have, as every person, their opinion on politics, and not only about Italian politics, but also foreign politics. I think it’s great that they are interested in what is happening in the world and not afraid to express their opinion. We do not live in a vacuum, I am also reading articles about foreign policy in reliable newspapers, and create my views (I’m usually at home with parents talking about foreign policy). Many people (ordinary people or journalists, experts … ) have expressed their thoughts about politics in foreign countries, I see nothing wrong on it. Everyone has the right to express own opinion, the others may agree or not. We can not be narrow-minded. Not willing to listen to or tolerate other people’s views and be full of prejudice is wrong.
        I wish you nice day ! 🙂

  6. Lydka, can you translate the title of the article you have mentioned and perhaps summarize it’s content for those of us the only know “a little Italian”. You seem to have a talent for translating and we all appreciate you!

  7. Look at variety and Billboard history. A singer singing the national anthem for the inauguration does not make much difference in album sales (not to mention the fact that the anthem is never on those albums).
There are two reasons for her Christmas album sales: 1. her fans want it and the performance on the Today show helped. 2. Having Il Volo on the album has also helped. I know Il Volo fans around here in Vegas who bought her Christmas album because Il Volo was part of it. So the reasons are Jackie, herself, and Il Volo plus it is a Christmas album and those sell pretty well normally.
Trump has nothing to do with it.

    1. further comment: Jackie’s album also has some other singers guesting with her like Placido Domingo. So, once again, reasons for her album success range from singing on the Today Show and a few other shows at Christmas plus Christmas albums usually sell well plus Il Volo and Placido Domingo and others are guests and her fan support is getting stronger.

Politicians usually have zero sway on CD sales.
