Personally Speaking ~ Pivotal Moments!

One of our Flight Crew, Tricianna, has written us to request seeing the lyrics in English to Grande Amore.  As I was preparing this for you all to see, I was struck by the thought that three of their songs stand out to me as being Pivotal Moments in their careers.  I know there are MANY songs of theirs that  fall into this category, but these three did it for me!  Watching these videos again I am in awe at how powerful these performances were and the power was all theirs!

So Tricianna, here is your Grande Amore, as sung at the Eurovision Contest.  Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio were beams of light that night.  They looked so incredibly handsome, mature, self confident and sang with pure perfection.  They earned the Popular vote that night and for the millions of il volo lovers out there they earned the title in our minds as well.  A Pivotal Moment in their young careers.

Great Love

I close my eyes and think of her
The sweet scent of her skin
It’s a voice inside that is taking me where the sun rises
Alone, are the words
But if they should be written everything can change
No more fear I’ll want to shout this great love
Love, only love is what I feel
Tell me why when I think, I just think of you
Tell me why when I see, I see only you
Tell me why when I believe, I believe in you only great love
Tell me you never
That will never leave me
Tell me who you are
Breath of my days of love
Tell me what you know
That only me choose
Now you know
You are my only, great love
Pass springs,
Cold days and stupid to remember
Cursed nights, lost no sleep other to make love
Love, you are my love
Forever, for me.
Tell me why when I think, I just think of you
Tell me why when I love, love only you
Tell me why I live, I live only in you great love
Tell me you never
That will never leave me.
Tell me who you are
Breath of my days of love
Tell me what you know
I do not ever be wrong
Tell me you’re
What are my only, great love

O SOLE MIO

One NEVER gets tired of seeing these adorable young boys in their American Idol debut!!  HUGE Pivotal Moment.

My sun (O Sole Mio)

My sun
What a beautiful thing, it’s a sunny day
The gentle breeze after the storm
The air’s so fresh, it feels like a celebration
What a beautiful thing, it’s a sunny day
But another sun,
That’s even brighter
It’s my own sun
That’s upon your face!
When night comes and the sun sets down
I almost start to feel blue
I’d stay below your window
When night comes and the sun sets down
But another sun,
That’s even brighter
It’s my own sun
That’s upon your face!
The sun, my own sun
It’s upon your face
It’s upon your face
But another sun,
That’s even brighter
It’s my own sun
That’s upon your face!

It’s now or never

(the English/Elvis version)

It’s now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never
My love won’t wait.

When I first saw you
with your smile so tender
My heart was captured,
my soul surrendered
I’d spend a lifetime
waiting for the right time
Now that you’re near
the time is here at last.

It’s now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never
My love won’t wait.

Just like a willow,
we would cry an ocean
If we lost true love
and sweet devotion
Your lips excite me,
let your arms invite me
For who knows when
we’ll meet again this way

It’s now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never
My love won’t wait.

IL MONDO

And who can forget the time they sang  Il Mondo,  at the 2012 Nobel Peace Concert.  This was a huge honor for them and a spectacular way to showcase them to the world!

The World

Tonight, My Love
I am not thinking of you anymore
I open my eyes
for the whole world
The world
goes around as usual

Spiraling, The world goes around
in limitless space
where the Love has just begun
where the love has been over
where people are happy or hurt
as me

The World
Until now I look at you
I am lost in your silence world
I am nothing beside you

The World
never stops
Night is always following day
And the daylight will come

Tonight, My Love
I am not thinking of you anymore
I open my eyes
for the whole world
The world
goes around as usual

Spiraling, The world goes around
in limitless space
where the Love has just begun
where the love has been over
where people are happy or hurt
as me

The World
Until now I look at you
I am lost in your silence world
I am nothing beside you

The World
never stops
Night is always following day
And the daylight will come

The World
never stops
Night is always following day
And the daylight will come

Tonight, My Love
I am not thinking of you anymore

  1. Thank you, Jane! I love all of these songs and have learned the Italian words so I can sing along with the guys. Grande Amore is such a powerful song and I love it so much. But my personal pivotal moment was when I heard IL MONDO for the first time. It was the first IL VOLO song I ever listened to after getting their self-titled CD. I was immediately in love with the voices of Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero. The song actually moved me to tears (don’t ask me why) even though at that time I didn’t understand a word. I know many of us here have had the same kind of experience that cannot be explained. After I found the English translations to their songs they all became even more meaningful to me. Their music, and the way they perform it, evokes strong emotions and stirs my soul.

    1. pitterpat0, I know we all have our select pivotal moments. Another way to absolutely love these three and all they do for us!! 🙂

  2. How generous of you to translate these songs. We don’t hear beautiful poetry in our music like the lyrics in these songs as they’re so beautifully translated. I cannot thank you enough. Those songs will have such different meaning for us with the words in English. I know Jay and I will have a whole new experience listings to the boys sing these songs now. These are real love songs. There is so much to absorb and I can see how singing these words so often has had a lot to do with who the boys are. We are all so blessed to have them in our lives. Thank you so very much.

    1. Victoria, I am so glad you are enjoying the beautiful lyrics of these songs. I love hearing the Italian lyrics, yet enjoy the song all the more when I know what they are actually singing about. I know I was in awe when watching them sing love songs when they themselves were only early teens. They sang them with such passion I could not believe what my eyes and ears were seeing and hearing! Such authentic ability to give a song such depth and meaning. To hold listeners spellbound or evoke tears is a sign you are a master of your talent. These guys are genuine in all they say and do. Always have been…and always will be.

      1. So true Jane. You are spellbound and often tearful just listening to the their beautiful voices. I agree with your choice of the three pivotal songs in Il Volo’s career so far and we know and can’t wait for future ones. I have seen many of the translations on Il Volo English Translations, and they do add so much to the meaning of the songs which are so beautiful even without the translations. It always amazes me that no matter how important or big the event or venue may be, Piero, Iganzio and Gianluca always come shining through bigger and better than ever!

  3. Thanks for giving us the words to songs we keep hearing over and over. It would be great to have a “Song Book” to follow the boys during their concerts or listening to a CD.

  4. This is so beautiful! Thank you, Jane! Those are my choices of pivotal songs too. Il Mondo, because it was the first song that Gianluca sang on Il Volo Takes Flight, PBS Special!!! I knew this was greatness with GG’s first notes!!! Then Ignazio & Piero sang their parts, it was amazing! I had tears also!!! The songs so beautiful in Italian, I had to have the translations!!! Will save your translations & they will all be together! I love everything they sing!!! Can’t wait for the new album to come out but have not heard of any release date!!! I love the old videos too!!! So young with awesome voices & their Italian charm!!! No wonder we all fell head over heels in Love!!!

  5. Anne, that is so neat we both chose the same songs! There are so many songs I hope they sing at some point in time. I am also anxious to hear the new CD and see what choices they have made for this one. Even if it is all in Spanish that’s ok with me. I love any language they sing in. Music is universal. They reach into our hearts and souls with ALL of their music. What a gift!

    1. Just a note here…for those of you who do not know…this site has me down in two different names, so when you see Mary Ceminsky you are actually also seeing Jane. They have used both my first and middle names. It gets confusing, but I have tried to correct it to no avail.

  6. Is there any Italian song that’s not a Love Song?? No wonder we love them so much Thanks for this post…..you gotta love those Italians!! <3 <3 <3

  7. Dorothy, I agree…you gotta love those Italians! I was thinking even if they sang in KLINGON, it would sound beautiful! 🙂 🙂

  8. I love them singing Il Mondo, it is perfection from the first time I heard it. O Sole Mio for me is so precious when Ignazio was singing on the program they were on & where he is always smiling. At the time he resembled my grandson so much. There isn’t a song they sing that I don’t love in any language. Thank you for the translations Jane. Yours, Daniela’s & any other helper you have all show us how dedicated you girls are & we are extremely lucky & thankful to have you all looking after this site. Your ideas are spot on. Trying to be patient waiting for their new CD & DVD.

  9. I have Il Mondo as a ring tone on my phone.
It bring’s out emotion’s in me, like it does for some of you. Thank you Jane for showing us the lyric’s.
I think the album where they sing in Klingon will be coming out soon😃

    1. I not only want them to sing in Klingon, but also to sing me my phone book!! Heaven…pure heaven. 🙂

  10. Jane, what would you say, would be nice to have a section devoted to song translations, so everyone can always go and consult them.
I have to correct something that you wrote, the translation of GRANDE AMORE that you posted is the version of Sanremo, the version of EUROVISION does not have Gianluca’s phrase ** will pass spring, cold and stupid days to remember, damned nights missed sleep, others to make love, love, love alone is what I hear **
because Eurovision has a fixed time to observe, poor Gianluca cut his sentence.
However they were very good at all Eurovison, they deserved the victory.

    1. Thank you, Daniela. I remember they cut the song down, but did not know whose part was affected.
I think that’s a great idea of having a place on the blog for song translations! Are you volunteering for the job? 🙂 Jana will love you all the more!! 🙂

    2. They also cut the 2nd verse that Gianluca sings in their Notte Magica tour too……..at least it was in the US concerts.

      1. You are right, even during the American tour they sang this way, instead in Verona it was noticed to the boys who performed the reduced version and have since done that complete.

  11. Loretta, that is very kind of you to offer, but I think Jana was referring to the number of posts we have ready and waiting to be posted. That number can get low at times and then we have to make sure we have enough to post something each day.

  12. Here is my comment about the 2012 Nobel concert performance of Il Mondo:

This is rather early in their striving for world-wide recognition. So listen carefully to the audience response when they are first announced and just before they start to sing Il Mondo. The applause is rather thin – just a trickle – mostly just courteous clapping. Most of those people do not know who they are – yet. Now listen through the entire song and as you do you will hear the audience breaking into strong applause at two times in the middle of the song. When they end the song the audience is through the roof with wild cheers and applause. NOW they know who Il Volo is ! ! !

When I wrote a review of this performance I said it was one of the best live performances they had given. Now in 2017 I see that is still correct.

Yes, you don’t have the vocal maturity of today but the orchestra is still one of their best and they are nearly perfect ! ! ! They are in total focus. How wonderful.

    1. I agree Myron, it is one of their best performances. I come back to it periodically to remind myself how astonishing they were at such a young age.

    2. I loved your comment about the Nobel concert. I felt the same as you when I saw them perform at that concert. It was obvious the audience did not know who these boys were and I too watched and listened to the crowd realizing what greatness they were experiencing. At the end, the crowd went wild and I think it is what happens to so many people when they first experience a concert with the boys. I watch that on YouTube so many times and it is always inspiring. At such a young age, I feel they had great depth of feelings. We have just been blessed to watch them grow and expand their talent. They were great when they started and they’ve just blossomed. It’s like watching a time lapsed video of a flower blooming.

  13. Note: there are multiple videos on this Nobel set- listen to the one that has both songs on it to hear what I am talking about. The first one is cut short and you do not hear the end applause. Take the one that runs over 9 minutes.

  14. Thank you Myron, right on target again I just viewed the 9 plus minutes video of Nobel Prize set . Extraordinary beautiful . Il Mondo and We are Love. Once again tears flow very easily when the emotions are touched by another IL Volo’s Great Performance ! Bravo!

  15. Jane, I love these three videos, especially the American Idol performance from May,2011. That’s the first time I saw the boys and I immediately had to find out more so I went to my computer and looked up everything I could find about them including you tube videos (there were only a few back then) and I have been hooked ever since!

    1. Seeing them on that first PBS program was r he reason I got a tablet! Now I’m so addicted that it’s pitiful! Not to just this device, but to IL VOLO! Not a bad thing, I might add!! <3 <3 <3

  16. Wow, lots of comments here!! Thanks to our flight crew fan, Tricianna, for suggesting we post these lyrics and Jane adding the videos – what a treat for all of us! I hope she was able to read it today!

We do not solicit funds from anyone for the upkeep of this site. That $bank$ is all handled by Kelly – I just organize the postings. However, if someone feels they would like to donate something, there is a PayPal account set up that you can donate a few dollars to. The link is called “donations” on the left column of the page, under the “home” page link. So far, we’ve used that fund for presents for the guys, like the “remembrance” photo books we gave them a few summers ago and the flowers we sent to them at our Detroit Fox concert this year.

I don’t know if it would be fruitful to have any/all of their songs translated – maybe we could post some here and there, but you can find all of their songs translated on a few Internet sites. I usually find mine on http://www.lyricstranslate.com They might not be perfect translations, but they are pretty good and you get the idea. We can have Kelly add the link to the site for easy reference.

    Glad everyone liked this!! 🙂

    Great job, Jane!

  17. Thank you Jane and Daniela: Just would like to say that I too have had the same reactions to these 3 songs as so many have already stated! Their Nobel Peace performance is so outstanding and as I have watched many times their American Idol performance what strikes me is their confidence and the expression of awe on the
faces of the audience and especially the then contestants !! I was hooked from their first PBS special❤️
