In Italy, February is considered the month of Sanremo.
This year, due to the pandemic, Sanremo will be there, but it has been scheduled for early March, and will also be without an audience.
It is thanks to Sanremo that I really got to know and started following Il Volo.
But how many times have Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio been in Sanremo on the Ariston stage?
In reality, really many times, because the filming of TI LASCIO UNA CANZONE, took place right at the Ariston Theater, but now, we are talking only about Sanremo.
2010
In 2010, the running of the Sanremo festival was entrusted to Antonella Clerici.
As we all know, Antonella has always been proud of her three little tenors. That year in Sanremo there will be Queen Rania of Jordan and Antonella decides to pay homage to the Queen, with a beautiful little show of her three little tenors.
What little kids, but what big voices. So sweet, close to Queen Rania of Jordan and Antonella.
They still had a long way to go and a lot of study to face.
2015
2015 is the year of triumph. A more than deserved victory and popularity also in Italy, where they were not so well known.
Here are our guys on the Sanremo red carpet, before the singing competitions begin.
The first evening was the consecration.
An explosion of joy and skill, welcomed the audience who was enchanted !!
Gianluca’s tears of emotion … It was February 11, the day of his twentieth birthday !!
It was the beginning of their worldwide adventure.
In the second evening, the evening dedicated to covers, Il Volo performed ANCORA.

Third evening, the decisive evening.
The boys, beautiful, elegant, excited.
Placido Domingo’s greetings arrive.
In the end, an explosion of applause.

Right now I was in front of the TV too, I felt GRANDE AMORE for the first time, and it was love right away!
2018
In 2018 the conductor of Sanremo is Claudio Baglioni. He wants IL Volo as super guests.

As good as ever, they also receive a standing ovation.
Then, together with Claudio Baglioni, they sang SONG FOR YOU.
This performance, wanted by Baglioni, I did not like very much, I sincerely prefer this song as it is usually performed by Il Volo.

2019
Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio have decided to present themselves as competitors again.
The race was beautiful, but the quality jury deliberately gave them very low, undeserved votes and then there was the scandal of the journalists who said bad words about Il Volo and recommended not to vote them so as not to let them win again.
Here they are upon their arrival in Sanremo, on the red carpet.
Instead their song MUSICA CHE RESTA was very popular with the audience and once again showed them so much love.
And then the night they sang with Alessandro Quarta and his fantastic violin. Very good, all the audience standing, lots of applause …. and the critics gave them the lowest rating …. incredible.
Despite all the low grades, Il Volo is lovingly supported by the home crowd and so in the end it comes third.
It was a nice roundup of appearances, but I’m sure there will be other opportunities to see Il Volo in Sanremo, both as guests and as competitors, because they can do it and because they certainly have the support of all of us- their fans who love them so much.

Wonderful recap, and videos I have not yet seen. I am always, always stunned by their performances. They have so much talent, sound wonderful all the time, and seem to be truly humble. The fans all around the world love them, and they love all their fans. I pray for them daily, I always wish them the best in their lives, and I truly would like to say that I hold them dear to my heart. They are like adopted grandsons to me. Love to them always.

You guys like a funny story? Yesterday I had a plumber for sink repair. New guy. My Platinum CD was playing. Italian speaking man . .both parents born in Italy. He heard the music, looked at me and said “you’re the best, we love those guys”. Fixed the sink and sang Un Amore Cosi Grande at the same time. Made my day!

On the other hand, I would still like their presence in Sanremo, both as guests and as competitors and I would be so happy to show the journalists how much they have done wrong about them and how good they are and how much love there is around them.

Great article, my heart hurts for our boys when the critics say nasty things about them. But they are more mature and intelligent than the critics and can handle anything negative. I love them like my grandchildren😊
RoseMarie, after the bad statements of journalists in 2019, I was seething with anger and with me thousands of fans. I must also tell you that many people who do not like the Il Volo genre of singing defended them because they understood that it was an unwarranted attack on three always polite and humble boys.
They are just wonderful. I do not understand why Italy has such strange ideas. Italians should be doing their best to increase IL Volo’s popularity because they have such inimitable talent – such gorgeous voices!! Dena Pitchfork, Mercer Island, Washington U.S.A.

Grazie mille, Daniela, this was a terrific post with many surprises for me! I hadn’t seen this wonderful version of “Ancora”, or the “La Vita Adesso”, which was so much fun. I’m always amazed when seeing the many performances the guys have done under so much pressure, yet they always perform so solidly and perfectly with no nerves showing at all–even when they were very young. To think that they were performing at San Remo in 2010!
Judi, LA VITA ADESSO is my favorite, beautiful, much more pop. You can see that the boys and Baglioni were very satisfied with the execution, yet the critics were once again very hard on Il Volo and the next day, at the press conference with the journalists, Baglioni defended Il Volo saying that “they are real singers and great professionals “.

Thank you so much Pat and Daniela for a wonderful listing of Il Volo’s musical history in Sanremo on the Ariston stage. It’s hard to believe it is now six years since they won at Sanremo. They were so young and so fabulous! I remember being so nervous for them but they are always confident, sing beautifully and are so gracious! That was the first time I heard Ancora and it is a lovely song.
I had not seen the videos from 2018 when they were guests and I never tire of hearing Nessun Dorma! They are a treasure and a beautiful gift to all of us.

Watching Il Volo sing at SanRemo 2015 is such a wonderful memory. I remember taking my Smart Phone to the restaurant to watch them sing and then win. Oh what a night that was.

I love watching the 2015 video of Grande Amore. It still gives me goosebumps. I did not know how badly Il Volo was treated by the Italian press until I started reading these posts. Thankyou Daniela for keeping us informed. I recently watched a documentary on Pavarotti. It said that in his later years he did a benefit concert every year and invited all rock stars to perform with him. The people loved it but the critics and people in opera did not. One female opera singer even said that pop and opera don’t mix. I couldn’t help but think of the boys. I will never understand this. They are and always will be the best!.
Unfortunately Cathy is all true. The boys have been heavily criticized by our journalists and our “music critics”, they have never forgiven them for starting their career in a talent program and for having made a fortune abroad with a repertoire that here in Italy is considered “old”. Furthermore, the “melomaniacs”, that is, those who love opera, do not tolerate that our guys sing opera, not having a basis for opera study.
Many people did not react to criticism, conforming to this and did not admit that Il Volo were very good. But now people are tired of this and for a long time, admits that Il Volo is the top and defends the boys when they sing. People love them because they are good professionals and really good guys. The “Pavarotti & Friends” was very successful and also a lot of criticism. Pavarotti has always defended the union between classic and pop.
I have the Pavarotti Duets cd. I know he was reluctant to sing with pop artists but once he did he sang with the best. I hope the boys ignore their critics because their fans love them unconditionally no matter what they sing.
RoseMarie, I believe that the guys immediately learned not to listen to non-constructive criticisms, but to listen to the love of their fans, who are not fools, they are connoisseurs of art and of heart.
