There is always some news and something to write about Il Volo and so I will update you with the latest news.
A nice audio interview has been published by THE NEW CLASSICAL RADIO, a station that is part of Zoomer Radio and broadcasts from Canada. Host Mark Wigmore talks to Piero, Gianluca (from Milano) and Ignazio (from Venezuela), but you can listen to everything because the interview is in English!!
At the beginning Mark immediately mispronounces the names of Gianluca and Ignazio! 😁😁

Another piece of good news:
ITALIAN OPERA SINGING is officially on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity: the proclamation took place on the occasion of the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO in Botswana.
A beautiful result that confirms how important our opera tradition is, a tradition which unfortunately is now greatly underestimated here in Italy if not even relegated to a few enthusiasts.
The most popular Italian music has nothing to do with opera nor with bel canto and little with pop.
You will surely have known that the Il Volo Christmas EP, which contains 4 Christmas songs, was put on sale in red vinyl format and signed by Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca.
I didn’t bring you the news here, because the vinyl couldn’t be ordered outside Italy. But look how beautiful it is!!
Needless to say, I ordered mine and it should arrive these days, so I’ll let you know my impression as soon as it arrives!! 😉

Daniela, I don’t quite understand the opera segment “Another Piece of Good News”-the meaning. I’m missing something. Or it’s too early in the morning.
This is good news Mark, because it is a symptom of the importance of tradition. The new generations throw everything out the window and in the musical field they rely on often horrible music and singers without any vocal skills. I am not a strict admirer of opera, I like to listen to some romance, maybe even see an opera every now and then, but I think that here in Italy it has fallen into disuse also because it has always been thought to be the prerogative of a narrow circle of people, instead that’s not the case, or at least it wasn’t. My dad told me that in his youth he often went to the theater and followed the operas. like many other kids, people also sang at work and had beautiful voices, without being singers. Bel canto was not intended only as lyric singing, but as a well-made song, sung well, without vulgarity. Now if I read some verses of the songs listened to so much by our very young people, I often hear vulgarity and sexism and let’s not talk about the singers who have no voice, no style, rudeness and often a truly unseemly way of behaving. So it is good that the values of our singing tradition are considered as a heritage, which must not be buried and forgotten but which can shine again and make people shine.

Thanks for the interview, Ladies!! It was interesting to try and figure out just who was speaking. When they are singing, there is no problem, but speaking is a little harder to pin down.

Sos did I Dol – that is, trying to figure out who waas saying what. But in fact it wasn’t so difficult after all. Ignazio has a very special voice and way of speaking and a heavy Italian accent (he was the first one) while Gianluca speaks the best and most fluent English even with a bit of American accent. Piero speak slowly and very precisely. So try to re-listen and I am sure you can figure it out.

Yes, Dolores, it’s a big challenge to understand who’s speaking but then you sense it by visually connecting their way of reacting and you immediately understand who the voice is coming from.

I love it, when an interview is done long-haul connecting the guys in respectively Milan, Venezuela with a Camadian Radio Station 🙂 Makes the world really tiny, right? <3 And good to know that in spite of working on an IL VOLO 2.0 version of themselves – i.e. new original songs, more focus on their individual personalities and an general evolvement – well, then they do realize that the base is and will always be IL VOLO and quality music. I really can hardly wait much longer to learn more of their new album – and not the least the chosen song for the Sanremo Festival…. It is sooooo exciting :-). PS: And did I hear them saying, that they will be working on a full Christmas Album for the next Season as well? Great <3
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the Italian fans here a very happy S. LUCIA DAY tomorrow. I understand that Italian children are being given presents on this day – and Daniela, albeit you are not exactly a little girl any longer ;-), well, then it seems that you are awaiting a very lovely present anyhow, namely a copy of the gordious red vinyl EP/LP "4 Xmas" special with autographs… Oh you lucky lady. I am not at all jealous….. (white lies allowed).

It’s so nice to hear them reaffirm that Il Volo is their priority, I too want to discover their new songs, in particular the one they will bring to Sanremo, there are just 2 months left and in this period they cannot participate in any event in Italian TV of any channel, under penalty of elimination.
Yes, I’m waiting for my EP, it should be here tomorrow, just for St. Lucia, and so I too will have my gift. However, I must warn you that S. Lucia only passes through the Brescia and Bergamo area; Verona, Mantua and some other cities in northern Italy. In Sicily, for example, it is the dead who bring gifts to children. A hug to you, Kirsten!

Regarding the Jerusalem Natale program, I’d love to see it again also. It was so beautiful, and would be especially meaningful now with the tragic situation in that area. I did find that we can see the 2020 St. Peter’s Natale on Youtube, along with some of their other Christmas appearances.

Enjoyed this article especially that the interview was in English. I am disappointed that they won’t be on TV for Christmas but rules are rules. I have no problem knowing who is speaking after you watch them everyday on you tube you know who is who when you can only hear them but not see them. Looking forward to new music and Sanremo.
