SANREMO FIRST AND SECOND EVENING by Daniela

And finally the day has come.
Sanremo, on the first evening, all thirty singers competed including Il Volo.
All songs are heard live for the first time (only journalists and orchestra players first).
The race is very long, Il Volo performs after midnight (the sequence is drawn randomly).
And finally they arrive… they come down the stairs, beautiful, elegantly different, dressed in Armani.

CAPOLAVORO

The final reception from the public was good, although I would have thought better.
The song is beautiful, quite catchy, I liked it .
I’m so excited for them, they’ve been waiting for media exposure like this for a long time and their performance of the beautiful song was the icing on the cake.
The more I listen to it, the more I like it and it gets into my head, it’s a true masterpiece.
I attach to you some comments published by a vocal coach who is really hard on some singers, he classifies them based on how the song is performed.

Il Volo are a cut above ALL!
Tonight less set and managed entries with 10 and praise!

Immediately after performing the song, the boys entered the Radio 2 box.
At Radio 2 there are two hosts, the man is a journalist, his name is Gino Castaldo and he has never had good comments for Il Volo.
The presenter/journalist is EVA STOKOLMA, she saw the video of the BSMT interview and also commented……thanks Eva!!
I translated the video.

EVA= The guys from Il Volo have entered, stand where you want.
GIANLUCA= I’ll stand next to you.
EVA= It seems right to me, because next to Gino he really doesn’t deserve it.
PIERO= Gino stays close to us, so if he makes something wrong (he means his comments) he knows that we are not merciful here.
EVA= Crazy, (in the sense of very good) you were crazy, how did it go? How did you find each other?
PIERO= Well Ariston is always a confirmation, that is, you experience unprecedented emotions when you go on that stage.
EVA= And what is this emotion today?
GIANLUCA= It’s an emotion that is contained in three minutes of song after a year and a half of work, everything fades like this.
EVA= But the song remains.
GIANLUCA= The chorus, in our opinion, is singable and it’s the main thing, regardless of the genre, that we tried to do something more contemporary, but the important thing is to bring songs that people can sing.
EVA= But when can someone sing your song? Secretly, not in front of people (she means their songs have great high notes that few can do)
PIERO= I’ll tell you something, I bet that at least once in his life Gino hums it in the shower.
GINO= (he laughs) but this new one?
PIERO= No, not even the past one.
GIANLUCA= Let’s let Gino do this (Gianluca sings the chorus of Capolavoro….but Gino doesn’t finish it)
GINO= No, no, I would do it but…..
GIANLUCA= Gino would have sung a song from Il Volo!!!
GINO= I would do it right away but I’m as tone deaf.
I have a very strong ear, if you drop half a tone I can hear it immediately, but not on me, because I’m out of tune.
GIANLUCA= Listeners, for those who are watching us on Radio 2, excuse me, let me tell you something……. we promise you that sooner or later we will make Gino sing with us. It’s a promise.
GINO= I have a serious question. You have been international for a long time, you move from one stage to another, crazy performances from New York, the world is your audience.
Is it possible that Sanremo is still so exciting for you who now have the world in front of you as spectators?
IGNAZIO = But you know better than us that around Sanremo there is a whole machine that rotates and it’s crazy, there’s a lot of work this week and if you’re not strong you risk being overwhelmed and sucked in by the anxiety and tension that the week takes its toll on you, after a year and a half of work as Gianluca said.
GIANLUCA= But it’s an emotional factor, we were born here, so we become children again when we go up on that stage, all those childhood anxieties re-emerge as if it were the first time.
EVA= Anyway guys I saw an interview with you where you talk about the crazy things that have happened to you around the world and the VIP folder. (the photo folder)
PIERO= Ah, the VIP folder, you saw the interview (BSMT)
EVA= You have so many stories, I would keep you talking for hours…
GINO= But they will come every evening, do you want….
EVA= We are waiting for you tomorrow too, who knows, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow (because the names of the singers who have to perform are drawn by lot on the very morning of the performance)
PIERO= Fortunately the police didn’t arrive the next day, after having told that (Piero refers to the BSMT interview)
GIANLUCA= We’ll be back. We will return here most evenings.
EVA= Is it a threat?
GIANLUCA= See you tomorrow or the day after.
EVA= True, you will only find out this tomorrow morning after the extraction. We give you a “lipo lip service” and we wait for you here at the microphones of Rai Radio2.
GINO= Good work, have a good week.
IGNAZIO= Thanks, bye everyone.

Then they go out to be interviewed by Fiorello.
Fiorello is waiting for them outside the Ariston Theatre, I think it is at least 03.00 in the morning. Piero, Ignazio and GIanluca haven’t gone to bed yet.
As usual Fiorello is very funny, I’ll translate for you.

Fiorello goes to meet them and hugs them tightly.
FIORELLO= Gentlemen, Il Volo, look at them.
P+I+G= Good evening
FIORELLO= Can I say that you are cooler?
PIERO= Thanks!
IGNAZIO= Well, let’s say handsome, he seems like a godfather (referring to Piero)
FIORELLO= No, no, he’s a guy. But you’re becoming like the Phantom of the Opera.
A curiosity, I followed you tonight, you (Gianluca), because when you sing you look up to the left.
IGNAZIO= I’ll tell you why.
FIORELLO= Why?
IGNAZIO= Because it’s his best side.
FIORELLO= Oh, really?
GIANLUCA= Do you know that I don’t know why? I don’t know, maybe I was looking at the sky.
FIORELLO= Do you feel cold?
GIANLUCA= A little.
FIORELLO= Listen, I challenge you to do something I’ll fly, so without trying, Grande Amore, only the final verse, he makes the chord (the pianist), only the ending.
PIERO= Do you have an F minor?
(sing the final chorus of Grande Amore – applause)
FIORELLO= Gentlemen, we have woken up Bordighera. (city far from Sanremo)
IGNAZIO= But doesn’t anyone sleep here? (because everything happens in the streets of Sanremo and people should sleep)
FIORELLO= Look who’s here, directly from TG2 Manuela Morino (a RAI journalist on the balcony)
GIANLUCA= Hello TG2
FIORELLO= Manuela Morino, if I throw you a ball will you take it? (he throws the ball)
So, now we’ll turn this way, if you give me a microphone, because what we would like to do is one of our strong points.
PIERO= OK
FIORELLO= It’s a song that brings good luck.
PIERO= In French?
FIORELLO = In Sicilian. He is from Abruzzo (Gianluca) but adapts (Piero, Ignazio and Fiorello are Sicilian)
GIANLUCA = I’m Sicilian too (he says it in Sicilian dialect)
FIORELLO= The song is titled……
PIERO= Excuse me.
FIORELLO= Go
PIERO= Don’t do the classic version, good, use bows, go slower.
FIORELLO = The song is titled TIRICHITOLLA
IGNAZIO= I’ll start.
(they start singing Tirichitolla which is a song in Sicilian dialect with double meanings in the words, and which every time they meet Fiorello makes them sing it)
FIORELLO= Gentlemen Il Volo! Thanks guys, good luck.
GIANLUCA= Hello to all the guys inside the box.
FIORELLO= Thanks, thanks to Il Volo. An applause!

Naturally, I had already warned you that on the first evening only the Press Room jury votes and therefore the votes would not have been in favor of Il Volo, in fact only the top 5 classified are communicated, here they are:

This is how the first evening ends, but tomorrow we start again, only 15 singers perform, including Il Volo, here’s how they were drawn. Il Volo will perform fifth, and this time there is 50% vote from home and 50% from the radio jury.
My husband and I will be ready with our cell phones and will vote the maximum allowed, that is, 5 votes per cell phone.

And here we are finally at the second evening, where only 15 singers perform, including IL VOLO.
They arrive in almost casual clothes, different, simple, I like them a lot.

They sing very well, always perfect, but much more relaxed, you can see that they are having fun.
The more you listen to the song, the more it gets into your head.
I really liked them and the audience really appreciated them a lot.

Click Here to view night 2 performance of CAPOLAVORO

What can I say: WONDERFUL, they truly are a MASTERPIECE!! 🎉🎉👏👏👏
At the end of the performance, Gianluca took the bouquet of flowers that they were given and ran into the audience to give it to his mother and he hugged his brother .. how sweet!! ❤️❤️❤️

Immediately afterwards they reached the Rai Radio2 station for the interview, Eva Stokolma and Gino Castaldo were waiting for them.

Greetings and hugs from everyone.
EVA= We can tune your song (you mean they can sing it even if they’re out of tune). Do you give us permission?
IGNAZIO= This song is either sung out of tune or not.
GINO= Then I have some chances.
IGNAZIO= It’s one of those songs you sing in the shower. It’s one of those songs that you have to sing out of tune and I was thinking about it last night, because yesterday you said that you don’t sing because you have a good musical ear, but…..
GINO= I’m out of tune.
IGNAZIO= And I imagined you in the shower singing it out of tune.
GINO= And it works the same!
IGNAZIO= Yes, it’s one of those songs you sing in the shower…
PIERO= Igna, what a bad image….
EVA= But why do you think about Gino singing in the shower, while returning home….
GIANLUCA= He imagines him relaxed in the shower...(because Gino is usually biting with his comments)
GINO= I will tell you, and I was commenting on it, that your song grows with every listen….
IGNAZIO= Come on!! But this is great news.
GIANLUCA= Coming from Gino Castaldo (who has always been negative against Il Volo)…..thanks, coming from him it’s incredible.
EVA= But it’s the truth.
IGNAZIO= I have to say one thing, I had a lot of fun tonight. It’s something I immediately said to them (Gian and Piero), we hugged each other and I told them: “Thank you because I had fun.”
EVA= How beautiful!
PIERO= It was nice.
IGNAZIO= To die for!
GINO= And when this happens, it gets to the public.
GIANLUCA= But in fact we are pleased to follow our path and to arrive with a new unreleased song, because for us it is very important to build a new repertoire, little by little, we are approaching something that for us anyway is……
GINO= So it will have a sequel.
GIANLUCA= It will have a sequel, so a record will be released where there will be 12 songs, among the most famous Italian producers: Luca Faraone, Michelangelo (Italian producers)…..
GINO= Every song….
IGNAZIO= There is also a duet that we cannot spoil….
GIANLUCA= Wait, we can only say that it’s a duet with one of the artists competing this evening!!
EVA= Wow, tonight….
GINO= So among these fifteen singers….
PIERO= We can’t say….
GIANLUCA= It’s an incredible piece!
GINO= So he’s among the fifteen tomorrow
IGNAZIO= I really don’t know!
PIERO= It’s true, we don’t know…
EVA= They don’t know…. (she laughs)
GIANLUCA= (turning to Gino) But are you coming to the album presentation??
EVA= Guys, why do you invite Gino when I’m your fan….
GIANLUCA= But you are already invited.
IGNAZIO= But it’s a given that you’re coming.
GIANLUCA= Never take Eva Stokolma for granted.
EVA= I’m taken for granted, oh well ok.
GIANLUCA= It is understood that you are invited.
EVA= Thank you, thank you.
What is the experience like being introduced by other singers competing this evening?
PIERO= Nice!
IGNAZIO= It’s beautiful, but thank goodness we weren’t introduced by Negramaro (they are a group of 5) otherwise we would have been a football team.
PIERO= But with Rose (Rose Villain who introduced them) there is a beautiful alchemy.
EVA= So it’s her. (the one from the duet)
PIERO= No, it’s not her.
IGNAZIO= I’ll tell you something nice that perhaps other artists have already told you.
This year there is an alchemy….it’s beautiful….and even with those we didn’t know.
For example, Alfa or Gazzelle (two singers from Sanremo), are wonderful guys.
GIANLUCA= Do you know how we will end this festival?
The final evening is my birthday, we’ll have fun, come on.
EVA= But really? I bring you a gift.
GIANLUCA= Your presence.
EVA= How kind.
GINO= We have to listen to the song during the race.
EVA= We look forward to hearing from you on Friday. (duet evening)
GIANLUCA= Friday?
EVA= You will do something crazy.
GIANLUCA= Castaldo will fall in love with Il Volo on Friday! (Castaldo loves rock)
EVA= But who doesn’t love you guys!
Greetings and Hugs

At least this time Castaldo managed to pay some compliments to the boys who are always very kind.
It’s clear that Eva likes Il Volo!! 🥰
At the end of the race, the ranking of the evening.
Naturally I gave all my possible votes to Il Volo (10), I was hoping a lot for this vote from home but I knew well that the radio jury would have been another cold shower and in fact Il Volo is not included in the evening’s ranking of the top 5 . What can I say, a big disappointment.
These are the top 5 ranked singers from last night.
1) Geolier
2) Irama
3) Annalisa
4) Loredana Bertè
5) Mahmood
And to really make you understand that Il Volo is always boycotted by journalists and radio stations, here is this comment posted by RAI.
I translated for you.

Among the uptempos the challenge is open, among the ballads Il Volo wins and has a victory song.
We know that they don’t make inroads into social media and that the press and radio are prejudiced against them, but that’s another matter.
And now a nice roundup of photos of our loved ones during the singers’ parade the day before starting Sanremo.

And at the party before Sanremo

and on the Vanity Fair cover!

This is how the first two evenings of Sanremo ended. This evening (Thursday) Il Volo doesn’t sing, they present a singer, and Friday will be the evening of duets, I can’t wait!!!
See you very soon!!
Daniela 🤗
P.S.
Our boys today at noon (8 February) had great satisfaction, meeting the first fans in an instore in Sanremo for whom they signed autographs on their CDs.
And hearing CAPOLAVORO sung by those people, I think, is their greatest satisfaction.

      You know that I completely agree with you Luz, but you will have noticed that here in Italy all these beautiful qualities are not given much consideration. Let’s be patient, we fans appreciate all this, and there are many of us here too.

  2. I have said it before, and I will say it again, to listen to Il Volo sing is to fall in love all over again. They are amazing, talented, and if they don’t come in at least third, I will be very mad. I am expecting a first place finish. I have also said, win or lose, they are the best and should be proud of themselves. How could we not love them — they are the best thing that has happened to the world since Adam and Eve lived in a garden.😃

    1. Karen, don’t expect a first place, they don’t believe it either, too many things against them. Unfortunately Italian music has taken a very bad turn and thank goodness there are still artists like Il Volo to carry forward beautiful Italian music,

  3. I am surprisingly overall very pleased with this performance and the Official video-the best part. I love the music, the back drops and staging, their clothing, which I guess is contemporary chic, but more IL Volo taste than I worried it would be. Gian could button up a bit more these days. They are the very best (the hell with the lion) and that’s the final word from my keyboard!

    1. I’m satisfied too Mark. I knew that they wouldn’t have exaggerated too much with the change in style and dressing, because it would mean becoming denaturalized.
      I like their song, they deserve much more, at least those who don’t like them (you can’t like everyone) should be sincere and admit their skill.

    2. Mark, it’s only that he is still young, gorgeous and has beautiful pecs that he carries off the open shirt wonderfully! Please don’t discourage him from expressing himself and his great physique while he is young. Take it from an OLD LADY, looks certainly don’t last a lifetime! Hugs, Dol.

    3. Your description is perfect. Contemporary but still a strong Il Volo “feel”. and I agree they are the best!

  4. Although the song is decent, I can’t say it strikes a cord with me. However it is obviously a song especially for Sanremo, and eventually the Eurovision. Not that I have watched the Eurovision since who knows when. I remember us walking up to the chippy when Brotherhood of Man were on. Watched the results (I think) and haven’t seen it since! So we are talking a very long time ago. Sheesh, I’ve moved house twice since then. 😉

    I loved the interview with FIORELLO and the song Tirichitolla. I don’t care what the words mean, it sounds such a fun song. It was nice to see them all being a bit silly. Most of the interviews I have seen have been the opposite.

    Oh dear Piero, I do not like that slicked back hair style. It makes him look older than his years, and yes, it does remind me of the Godfather. 🙁

    Roz

    1. Roz, I’m not a fan either (you may already be aware of this). Gianluca’s parts are great, but the other bits* are doing nothing for me. I’ll stick to their older songs.

      *Other bits does not refer to Piero. 😉

    2. I agree, Roz. The song did not evoke a deep feeling from me when I first heard it but I have to admit it is growing on me. It is no Grande Amore though! I have listened to a lot of interviews and the guys have sung the last few words of Grande Amore several times! Just proves the kind of special song it is. Now that one evokes much emotion from me and always has. Capolavoro is lacking a little something for me. It is just my opinion and the way I feel. It doesn’t seem to have as much substance to the words as many of their other songs have. Some of them can literally bring me to tears.

      As far as Fiorello and the song Tirichitolla – I have heard the lyrics are kind of ornery! 🤣 I’ve never heard the translation of it though.

      I think Piero and especially Gianluca are just experimenting with their clothes and hairstyles. Iganzio doesn’t seem to have changed much. In fact I think his hair has been shorter lately. I think he looks great! 😀

      1. pitterpat0, you worded it exactly. Yes, there is definitely something lacking. While there is obviously a meaning to the song, in my opinion the lyrics are not doing a great job at expressing it. A song of a highfalutin nature.

        How are those dodgy knees of yourn doing? Getting better or still giving you gyp? I’m sure I remember you having one of them done, but can’t remember about the other.

      2. Thanks for asking about me, Thordis. My knees are great! I had my right one replaced 10 months ago and the left one 6 months ago. Just went to the doc and had xrays and he said everything looks great! Now all I have to do it keep working on strengthening my leg muscles. They are still a little weak although I am walking well. It’s just going to take time. 🚶🏻‍♀️😊

    3. Roz, the song is beautiful, but the impact I had when I listened to Grande Amore for the first time was unique. But I didn’t follow them at the time, I almost didn’t know who they were and when I heard the song it literally shocked me. We who follow them are used to their way of singing and we always expect a lot from them, they are at a high level and therefore nothing surprises us anymore. They also tried to be less lyrical (which they are always criticized for) and more pop, but without exaggerating.

      When they go to Fiorello they have a lot of fun and the song is very mischievous.

      I don’t like Piero’s hair gelled back either.

  5. Thanks so much Daniella for translating for us! Really enjoyed the Interviews! Loved it all!💕🎶🎶👏👏

  6. Thank you for these great translations! The guys are ever upbeat and positive, even when they are sending digs to journalists! The interview with Gino was interesting, he sounds like he may be coming over to their side! YAY! The song is beautiful and you’re correct in saying it gets better everytime you listen…I’ve been playing over and over and it does stick in your mind! It’s a very catchy tune and I find my self humming it and singing Capolavoro (the only part so far I can pronounce)!!🤪. I was able to watch first night but had trouble connecting with the second night, did finally did catch their song….even better the second time because the nerves left and they clearly had fun!
    They must have been so thrilled when the crowd outside the bookstore started singing it, their smiles are so infectious! I was so praying for the LION but would be happy with a cub….at least 3rd!
    They look quite stunning in their new outfits…..they make me happy🎼🎶🎤 just hearing them and enjoying their smiles!! Can’t wait for next installment!
    As always you two are the best!
    Carol👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💖💖💖🎼🎶🎤🤗😘🙏🏻☮️

    1. You’re too kind, Carol. Thanks for your compliments. Daniela outdid herself on this post! Whew!! 😄

    2. Yes Carol, Gino also said it, the more you listen to the song the more you like it, finally Gino expressed himself a little positively.
      I don’t know who organized the morning in the bookshop, but I think it was a nice boost of confidence for Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca.

  7. I don’t care what they sing, or what they wear, they sound wonderful and look great. They will always be number one for me. I admire them without question for their courage to participate at Sanremo knowing how certain journalists will treat them. I have watched all 3 nights so far. GG was so sweet to his mother and brother, if it was me I think my heart would have burst with pride. BTW (in my opinion) The blue haired lady should retire. I wonder how many of the rest of the contestants will still be around in 15 years. Now i will wait for the Queen song, Who Wants to Live Forever. I know it will fantastic.

    1. I too RoseMarie, I find them adorable as well as magnificent singers, elegant, polite, never excessive, even when they let themselves go a little.
      Of course they have to swallow a lot of prejudices that I hoped had disappeared. Honestly, such persistence always made me think of someone working against them!!
      They’ll be a late night for us tonight, but I really want to hear them on that beautiful song!

  8. Daniela, grazie – the fans singing Capolavoro – a perfetto way to end your story!!! I hum it, sing it, love it!! bravi guys!

    1. I loved those videos out of the library, Karen, I had already finished the post, but I immediately thought of adding them.

  9. The guts were wonderful. I have watched every night and it’s only my taste but other than a couple of performers I don’t see alot of talent. To compare Il Volo to most of these other performers is like comparing a rock to a diamond. I don’t see too many of them being around long. Already the fans are singing their song which I think is high praise. No matter how it turns out they will always be the best. Can’t wait for tomorrow. I know you’ll be great guys!

    1. Edge, as you said there was very little real talent, and unfortunately these types of singers are carried on the palm of the hand.

  10. Finally got to see some of the videos and can’t agree more that most of the performers should go home and/or retire!!!
    Getting to love that song the more I hear it and was so happy their fans were singing it. Just goes to show it is “singable” by the ordinary person. Maybe by the end of the Festival the whole audience will sing along! Thanks and hugs, Dol.

    1. I agree Dolores, many singers who are successful here in Italy are really painful, the competing artists who are of a certain age have had their success and at least they are not as painful as the new ones.

  11. Daniela
    Do you know the order of singers for Friday? When you find out can you let us know please?

    1. Penina, this evening all 30 duets are singing, there shouldn’t be any guests, so something quicker.
      Il Volo performs at 23°, so I think we will be well after midnight, more like 1am (Italian time). As soon as the timetables come out I can be more precise.

      1. Thanks Daniela, I don’t have time today to watch the whole thing but if I can catch their performance I will be happy!

      2. Thank you so much, but I don’t think I will be able to watch it. 🙁
        I’ll have to rely on youtube!

  12. Another wonderful post with so much to love. And OMG, so many interviews! I understand now what you’ve been saying about the publicity, Daniela. Love the Vogue cover! And anything with Fiorello is always fun. Thanks so much for including their 2nd night performance. And since the powers that be only list the top 5–who knows? The guys could have placed 6th one or both nights and still be in the top running.

    1. Judi, I’d really like to think they could still climb into that top five, but I’m under no illusions.
      They are calm and accept everything, even being surpassed by talentless singers.

    2. Last thing Judi, now you understand what I meant by “media exposure” relating to Sanremo. Consider that there were at least three times as many interviews as the ones I translated for you and television appearances. A nice “tour de force” for them.

      1. Absolutely–it’s all good! And they seem to be having a fantastic time too.

    3. That Vogue cover is beautiful! If it were back in my teenage days I would have that pinned up in my room beside my bed hahaha

  13. So many interviews and they seemed so upbeat. Loved the video with the fans singing along. Thought the guys were amazing and loved the song and the official video. Thanks again you guys for all your hard work. Looking forward to Friday night to hear them sing Queen with Stef Burns. Did not think too much of the talent, maybe biased but thought IlVolo one of the best.

    1. Beverly there are so many interviews and those videos outside the library are memorable, what a joy when I saw them.

  14. I have followed these guys from their start. I love their music,but the attire they are wearing doesn’t fit their music. They don’t need to be fashionistas. Gian looks like a little boy in daddy’s pants. He looks so classy in his fitted suits and no butterfly earrings. His longer hair makes him look much younger. All the guys have beautiful hair, that makes you want to run your fingers thru it. Ignazio always stands out in his somewhat fitted suits. I know he likes the more casual look and it looks great on him Piero also is more classy in the fitted suits. They have set the standard a long time ago. Your fans will always love them for it. These are not bad vibes toward the guys, but words to tell them they don’t have to follow any new trends. They have the market on their very being.

    1. Ich mag es, wie sie gekleidet sind. Sie passen sich dem Event an. Etwas extravagant ist angebracht. Sonst würden sie negativ auffallen.

    2. Christine, what you write is true, they don’t need to change the way they dress, but they need to if they want to attract younger people. Have you seen how most of the young people dress in Sanremo? And if you don’t adapt, you risk that they won’t even try to listen to you. I dare say that Il Volo still dressed elegantly and soberly compared to others.

      1. You are exactly right Daniela. Their new look is still elegant and stylish but more contemporary. And they need to stand out for a big show like this. It is always a bit of a fashion show too.

  15. Thank you so much, Daniela! I don’t post much but want you to know how much I appreciate this site. I can’t stop listening to their new song, I love it & more important, they seem to love singing it!! Also want to point out the YouTube video from the first night already has over a million views with majority positive comments & the official video as well. Looking forward to the duet today. 🥰

    1. Stacey, thank you so much for commenting and thanks for the compliments.
      Yes I saw that the views have exceeded 1 million and I’m so happy for them, I feel like they are fourth in views, and that’s great.
      I’m also looking forward to tonight’s duet!!

  16. I agree with everything that has been said. Your translation of these interviews is spectactular and I appreciate all you do for the “boys”. I am very proud of how they continue to shine even facing the adversity of the media. If they allowed the fans in the US to vote it might have turned out drastically different. As always, I will keep sending my prayers in their direction.

    1. Eileen I am convinced that it was possible for you to vote from the United States. , the ranking would have been different.
      Today I heard Ignazio say in an interview that as soon as they finish the Italian tour they will do a long tour in the US.

  17. Another big thank you to you, Pat and Daniela. The translations are great. I’m so happy it seems like they are having a good time at San Remo. And even if they don’t win there are lots of people showing love for them. I have been listening to the song on endless repeat. Too bad they can’t get votes based on how many times it’s been played all over the world.

    Piero’s hair sometimes looks like Astroboy! Other than that I think they look great. NC seems to be a very creative stylist. I see he also worked with different artists at San Remo and they all have their own special looks I guess tailored for each one.

    I am not super familiar with San Remo but it’s interesting to me how different all the songs are. How can one compare a rap to a pop to a ballad to a dance song? So it becomes a popularity contest? If more people like pop or rap then that song or artist will get more votes. But that doesn’t mean the more classic ballad with a nice melody isn’t also great. oh well, I guess that’s just how the game is played.

    I am also watching all the other artists on YouTube RAI channel. It’s a good show! And also then I can say that I listened to all the songs and still Il Volo is the best!!!

    1. You’re most welcome, Amy! I agree with you. Only a few other artists at Sanremo even come close to IL VOLO and I have watched them all a couple times.

      1. Last night, it was fantastic. Everything was right; Song selection, vocals, Stef Burns and outfit. They deserved 1st place. Unfortunately, they came so late that many people probably didn’t hear their song or vote for them.

      2. Ina, everything was perfect for a deserved, almost due first place, but unfortunately it wasn’t like that.

    2. Yes, Amy, Sanremo is a pot of different tastes of music, but you’re absolutely right, when it comes to quality there are no comparisons, the problem is that it seems that journalists and radio stations don’t know it.

      For the visual change of boys, I like them, they are still different but elegant, I don’t approve of certain hairstyles and I hope they aren’t used much.

  18. Just finished watching tonites show. So disappointed. I thought the guys had a real chamce tonite.I loved the song maybe even better than Capolavaro. It started slow but what a finish. And Ignazio. Wow! It’s a little more rock than we’re used to but I think that was what was needed for this show and they pulled it off beautifully. I’ve watched every singer everynight trying to be fair but other than Amgelina tonite there is no one even close to Il Volo. There seemed to be alot of booing after tonites winners were announced. I admire the guys for participating when they knew the odds were against them but I think I will only watch Il Volo tomorrow night. I’ve had enough of the others. I loved the guys outfits tonite. So handsome. I do have a question Daniela. What was the award for tonite?
    P.S. No one can sing Hallelujah like Il Volo.
    .

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more, Cathy .. I was blown away by their performance tonight .. they put their heart & soul into every note .. only thing I can say is WOW!!! 🤩

    3. Oh my Cathy! The guys’ performance with Stef Burns was fantastic! Now THAT is the emotion I was looking for. It gave me chills. WOW!! I did not get to watch the whole show or see the guys live. My son and his family called and the last minute and wanted to go to Union Station in Kansas City to see the big KC Chiefs display and take pictures. That was a lot of fun. How could I refuse?? 😊 We had a great time and after went to have a burger and then ice cream. I kept checking my cell phone (I have the RAI app) but I missed the guys. But I saw it when I got home.

      1. That sounds like alot of fun Pat. I’m sure everyone is really excited. It’s always makes it special when your team is in. I’m a Giants fan. Hopefully I’ll get to see them in it again. Enjoy the game. It should be a good one.

    4. Cathy impossible not to love that song and Il Volo gave a perfect performance, they were wonderful, they deserved to win.
      The prize for those who came first is the recognition of the best cover of the evening and honestly that should have been at least one of their prizes.
      There were many boos because the public did not appreciate the vote.

  19. They were fabulous last night! And Ignazio was wailing!! Can’t believe (in spite of what Daniela’s been telling us) that they didn’t place in the top three for that.

  20. I like the new song and agree that the video showcases it best. But the guys strength is when they do beloved songs with a fresh spin.

    As for the new “stylist”: only Ignazio seems to have survived gracefully. His new haircut is very flattering. As Roz described, Piero has been made to look like an old man. And Gianluca, in his quest to look cool, will he next show up in green, orange or blue hair with neck tattooes? Why do this to three of the most gorgeous creatures around? They don’t need it! Singers who can’t sing but have a gimmick are a dime-a-dozen.

    These guys are at their zenith when their talent and their normalcy are center-stage (not unlike Michael Buble, Celine Dion and Taylor Swift).

    1. In a few sentences Sally must have read my mind! When you are the best just keep doing what you did to be called the best! You can update your look, change small things, however there is no need to pretend you are different by the colour of your hair, silly ear rings, and tattoos! I give credit to Piero who was keeping up with the group doing everything except his voice wasn’t really part of the showcase! Ignatieff excelled with energy and enthusiasm and I believe Michelle is a huge part of his passion. That leaves Gianluca, and for me he is close to perfect! His voice, his passion and emotion , his compassion (flowers for his mother) his knowledge of the different cultures in the world, and his smile, looks and physique and did I mention his voice? I could go on and on but I can’t resist Sally’s comments about Michael Bublé, Céline Dion (they are both Canadian 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦just like me! ). Love my boys just the way they are! Also could add Hallelujah was written and sung by a Canadian, Leonard Cohen 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦! I pray their world tour will have a stop in Canada PLEASE ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️

      1. Of course they will come to Canada Sheila and I think Il Volo is making small changes to their way of dressing, nothing excessive or vulgar, so let’s sleep peacefully.

    2. Sally, let’s be honest, Il Volo will never renounce the standards with which it has been successful, but it cannot go on a life just singing those songs.
      He’s trying to keep up with the times without starving like some artists do. I don’t think their daily image is the one they showed in Sanremo, but it’s not even the one they always gave us in suits and ties. Let’s let them breathe a little.

  21. I agree 58daniela – I hope they never do Sanremo again!
    Change is good, they need new challenges to keep them fresh! I eagerly await new songs! God bless IlVolo

  22. Thanks a million Daniela and Pat for your tireless efforts in keeping us up to date with everything Sanremo. I lack to understand how you find to sleep and keep up your daily routines as you must be glued to your computers these days around the clock with the constant pour of new video clips and interviews. Please note that your efforts are highly valued.

    By now Sanremo has come to an end – hence I have collected all my thoughts, emotions and evaluations in one long message that I did add to Daniela’s post yesterday coveting the last two nights of the festival. Hence, please swipe to that article should be interesting in learning my two cents on this event. Thank you.
    Meanwhile – warmest regards – Kirsten, Denmark

    1. You’re most welcome, Kirsten! Yes, it has been a really intense past few days here for me. The only thing that pulled me away from Sanremo for a few hours on Friday was going with my son and his family to Union Station in downtown Kansas City to see all of the Kansas City Chiefs decorations and take pictures. I could not refuse that and also dinner and ice cream after! Then yesterday was the Super Bowl game which we WON!! I was at their house helping fix food and then watching the game. 👏🏻😁 Needless to say I am spent but it was all well worth it! Keep you eyes peeled for one last Sanremo post which I am now working on! 😉

      1. Yay – Kansas Chiefs! That game kept me on the edge of my chair! Your QB is worth his weight in gold!
        I’m ready to put Sanremo to bed! Hopefully never have to go through this fiasco again! Are they doing Eurovision? Don’t know what it is! They need to relax for a day or too,then tell us when they will be in Canada 🇨🇦 and USA in 2025!
        Thank you everyone who have done all this work to keep us the fans, updated!
        Finally, thank you Il Volo for being a fabulous group who we all love!❤️
