I am happily retired. As a career I found myself in the business end of education. Spent most of my working life researching, developing and implementing a broad spectrum of local, state and national education programs. Other than some travel, my focus now is Il Volo and the Flight Crew. How lucky am I to have found such joy? I'm having the time of my life! Oh, and I'll be a vegetarian when bacon grows on trees.

Our Guys In Pompeii

Well, this morning I could write all of the magical things that happened at the PBS taping in Pompeii last night, but our affiliate, All About Il Volo did their/her usual good job so I’ll just repost it here:

Magnificent concert of Il Volo in Pompeii

Il Volo concert - PompeiiOn the scenery full of feelings and memories of the ruins of Pompeii the music snatched the thoughts and hearts.

The lucky people who could attend the special concert of Il Volo last night – the invited people or even who was there due to a happy circumstance – reported the same: they were suddenly taken to another world.

– I almost couldn’t breath! – said someone. And it is true. The time was discontinued and the magic took over. There aren’t enough adjectives to describe thePBS special concert recorded yesterday between 9pm and midnight in Pompeii.

As the event is prepared to be released on the Detroit Public Tv in July 6th, 2015 and, after this, to be broadcasted on many PBS stations all over US and Canada, there were few pictures and videos, all took by fans and by Il Volo staff. A nice preview and teaser for the debut of the special.

Il Volo concert - PompeiiThe concert opened with Grande Amore and followed bringing already known songs as Caruso and O Sole mio (the ending song) along with many new unreleased and cover songs. Among the others they sangRecuerdame (La Quinta Estación and Marc Anthony), Volare, Piove (Ciao Ciao Bambina) and the Spanish version of Grande Amore.

They did solo performances too! As he promised Piero Barone sang E lucevan le stelle, from the third act of Tosca (Puccini). An unbelievable performance according to our contact there: emotional, perfect in all senses.
Gianluca Ginoble sang Anema e Core, a song presented on the concerts in Italy last year but not in the American summer tour. A great performance.
Ignazio Boschetto melted all hearts with his interpretation of Unchained Melody (Ghost). He also sang Quando l’amore diventa poesia.

Il Volo also made a nice homage to Napoli with Ignazio singing Napule è (Pino Daniele) a capella. At the end, Il Volo invited the audience to their concert on July 4th, 2015 atPiazza del Plebiscito in Napoli. For sure we all can’t wait to watch this special and we hope it will be soon on DVD.

Today in Pompeii

It hasn’t been this HOT in Pompeii since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius!

The Boys are there today taping a PBS Special to be shown only in the Detroit area, including Canada. It will be on  COX Cablevision, July 6th at 9pm EDT.  The special will also be shown on other PBS stations in August.

The program is being taped in front of a “by invitation only” audience. I didn’t get one.  Thanks Lijoy for the photo’s.

I think my sister, who is a Piero fan, and I are driving 255 miles to Detroit and renting a hotel room just to watch them on TV.  My sister must be hooked.

I May Need a Little Help.

I love them. No, I REALLY love them. I don’t understand these feelings. They are deep. I am bewildered. G - all lovely  God knows I’m old enough. I think I’m smart enough, but I don’t understand. I thought that if I immersed myself (like having a dedicated website!) and wallowed around in “Il Volo” long enough, like math, I would eventually “get It”. I don’t. I never have.
I - all lovely
Yesterday I received Ignazio’s Georgio Armani Fragrance from ebay. All five of my senses have been alerted. So now I smell them. I have seen them, heard them, touched them and have even tasted a dimple or two. Still…

I usually reach this point in my understanding and I stop trying. I just keep smiling happily because I’m able to feel this kind of love, this strongly, at this time in my life…This joyful, this contented, this fortunate time in my life!

                                               Really though, I’m clueless.

I don’t fully grasp the beauty I see, the magnificence I hear nor the love that, not so silently, but surely sings through every part of me.

                 So..There it is.

No doubt, I eagerly and desperately, want those deeply wonderful feelings to continue.

I guess I’m lost in the thrill of it.i - b & w
Sometimes I wonder if I’m just being a silly old woman, but then it’s their fault… they are too charming & delightful, playful & inviting, wonderful, talented, handsome, kind and intriguing! My fav Gian Pic
So, here I am asking you, Myron, to explain it in professional terms. Or maybe you Jana in Italian. Or Loretta and Kitty who accept it so easily, can tell me why. Ineke, do you know that you are the furthest possible distance from me on this planet? We come from totally different cultures. The opposite sides of the world. Yet, we feel exactly the same. How is that possible? Penina and Connie, you two always have answers… Answer that! Minnesota Ladies? Have you all figured it out? Jeannette and Jeanine, who can express themselves so well… enlighten me.

Il Volo must tap into the deepest most basic feelings we all share no matter our age, background, environment, or spot on the planet. Wouldn’t that be exactly what makes us “human”? Well, Ineke, my sister, I may just have my answer after all.

More Reasons to Love the Italians – Besides the Three we Already Know

Well, Ann (anncruise) is at it again sending me all sorts of fun Italian things to share. The “suspend” story makes me want to hug every Italian on the planet starting with those three.

The Italian-American Page
Paying it forward, Italian style .The Pending Coffee will restore A Little Bit of Your Faith in Humanity !!

“We enter a little coffeehouse with a friend of mine and give our order. While we’re approaching our table two people come in and they go to the counter –
‘Five coffees, please. Two of them for us and three suspended’
They pay for their order, take the two and leave. I ask my friend:
‘What are those ‘suspended’ coffees ?’
‘Wait for it and you will see’
Some more people enter. Two girls ask for one coffee each, pay and go. The next order was for seven coffees and it was made by three lawyers – three for them and four ‘suspended’. While I still wonder what’s the deal with those ‘suspended’ coffees I enjoy the sunny weather and the beautiful view towards the square in front of the café. Suddenly a man dressed in shabby clothes who looks like a beggar comes in through the door and kindly asks
‘Do you have a suspended coffee ?’
It’s simple – people pay in advance for a coffee meant for someone who can not afford a warm beverage. The tradition with the suspended coffees started in Naples,Italy but it has spread all over the world and in some places you can order not only a suspended coffee, but also a sandwich or a whole meal.”
