IL VOLO IN ASTI CONCERT by Daniela

The first of five summer concerts this year in Italy has begun, in Asti.

In these days, several journalistic articles have announced the arrival of the boys, presenting them as true stars, they had never been in concert at Asti.

Let’s start with the soundcheck.

And here they are, ready to start, beautiful and elegant.

Asti 1

Asti 2

Thus the “Volomania” infects all the public in Piazza Cattedrale. Accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Asti, the three tenors of Il Volo and their repertoire of “Magic Night: A Tribute to Three Tenors” – a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Josè Carreras.

Asti 7

The program seems to repeat the program of NOTTE MAGICA of Florence.

Directed by the master Marcello Rota.

Some amateur videos have arrived, the first one, which is out on stage, of the boys, has no audio. The others yes, we listen to some songs.

Asti 8

Asti 9

But they also sang IL MONDO:

Along with L’AMORE SI MUOVE, GRANDE AMORE and VOLARE.

Attention to this next video:

LIBIAM NE LIETI CALICI begins and Gian looks for words on the musical score and does not find the page. Starting slightly late, he does not remember the words, then makes a sign to the guys who understand, Ignazio and Piero go on in his part and at the end Ignazio hugs him.

It can happen to anyone, but this gesture by Ignazio and Piero is wonderful !!

In the afternoon, the guys with Torpedine presented the book RICOMINCIO DAI TRE.

Asti 9b

Another really nice thing is that last night on the streets of Asti were hanging messages that said:

I LOVE GIANLUCA

IL VOLO IS OURS

WE CAN COME ON TOUR WITH YOU

PIERO I LOVE YOU

IL VOLO VITA

IGNAZIO I LOVE YOU

Another thing to report, the friend of Ignazio, Roberto Amade published this post:

“I really want to do a big good luck to my little brother Ignazio and my friends of Il Volo who will perform tonight in Asti, near my house !! I will not be there but with the heart I will be there ….. and who else can go because it is a really beautiful show!”

Asti 9c

I would say that the boys had an extremely long and heavy day, and there was also a little rain at the beginning of the concert.

They will be tired but certainly happy for this beautiful concert.

……. and in a few days it’s up to me !!

Luciano Pavarotti 10th Anniversary Concert

It seems unbelievable that a decade has already passed since September 6, 2007, when the world mourned one of the most beloved and legendary singers, Luciano Pavarotti.

Luciano Pavarotti

A special tribute concert dedicated to the unique and unforgettable tenor will take place on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Verona Arena in Italy. This is a Roman amphitheatre internationally renowned for its large-scale opera productions as well as pop concerts.

Plácido Domingo and José Carreras will be paying tribute to their friend Maestro Pavarotti as part of the concert, having performed together several times as The Three Tenors. The extraordinary trio (who shared a common passion for soccer) changed the perception of opera around the globe and their incredible performances gained them legions of fans and brought classical music to the masses at a level never seen previously.

Many more stars, both from the opera and the pop field, will join Plácido and  José  to celebrate Maestro Pavarotti. Among them are Andrea Bocelli, Giorgia, Zucchero, Giorgia, Angela Gheorghiu, Eros Ramazzotti, Nek, IL VOLO, Fiorella Mannoia, Vittorio Grigolo, Francesco Meli, Nicola Piovani, Fabio Armigliato, Andrea Griminelli, Massimo Ranieri, Massimo Ranieri , Ron Howard, Alessandro Del Piero, and Fabio Fazio.

The music gala will be broadcast live on Rai Uno TV and hosted by Carlo Conti. I found a free live stream for Rai Uno TV at http://www.freeintertv.com/view/id-1711 . I am hoping this will work to view the concert.

The concert will also be live on RAI Radio 2 at 21:25 (Italian time), on air and online. The link to Radio 2 is  http://www.radio2.rai.it/dl/portaleRadio/media/ContentItem-05f13d4b-c252-4a9f-a2d0-a2e423964250.html . Click on “IN ONDA” in the red box in the upper right screen to listen live. It also shows a nice video clip of the upcoming event. I did not hear any sound when it played.

I found a couple different times for this concert. I decided to go with the time listed on the TV and radio websites. Please forgive me if the concert time is off a bit.

IL VOLO IN BACKSTAGE

Article by Patrizia Ciava – Translation by Susan J. Ambrosini

Being able to witness the preparations of the artists getting ready for the stage is perhaps an even more interesting and engaging experience than the concert itself. Only members of the staff and a few friends and relatives are allowed in the backstage and in the dressing areas, so being there is a rare privilege. This is the time when the artist, away from the spotlight, shows his most real and vulnerable side, as he is subjected to the tension of “stage fright”, which affects even the most skilled and experienced artists.

Backstage of the Rome Palasport, there is little more than an hour before the beginning of the Il Volo concert and preparations are in full swing, but there is no hint of tension or nervousness as one might expect.

In the corridors, some orchestra players, still in jeans and T-shirts, are seated on the floor, talking quietly. Some try their instruments in a corner. In turn, they enter their reserved changing rooms to put on their stage suits.

The members of Il Volo, Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero, are closed in their dressing rooms but occasionally one of them comes out, wearing only half the stage suit, to chat with others or to take a selfie. They hug those who have just arrived and, when passing by, they always have a word, a smile or a pat on the back for everyone.

Their friends, relatives and staff members chat and joke among themselves in the corridor without showing any sign of worry or anxiety, as if they were in a relaxed family reunion.

At a certain point, a couple arrives at the entrance of the barrier zone, pushing a wheelchair where a disabled boy is seated, but they are stopped by a guard who tells them “you cannot go through without a pass.” Ignazio notices them and goes towards the little family group, calling out loud his two colleagues who join him immediately to give a hug to their young fan whose face lights up with joy and emotion. It’s a completely spontaneous action, there is no manager suggesting in a whisper ” take pictures with him, it’s all publicity,” instead we are told not to take pictures or shoot videos for privacy reasons. The three artists have a friendly conversation for a few minutes with the boy and his parents then, apologizing for the short time available, they leave and return to the dressing rooms.

Memory took me back then to other backstages with the “stars” passing by without even giving a glance at those present, as if they considered themselves semi-gods, followed by a swarm of breathless and frightened assistants. Even those who seemed nice in reality showed nothing more than compliance, exhibiting boredom and annoyance to make it clear that they were famous and the others were no-one. Their angry voices resonated from their dressing rooms shouting at the poor costumers who had missed a crease or made a mistake with an accessory. I still remember my disappointment at finding out the haughtiness and arrogance of artists who had been described to the public as “friendly and down-to-earth”.

But filtering out of Piero’s dressing room you can only hear his powerful trills while he is “warming up” his voice. Then, suddenly, a Latin American rhythm resounds at full volume, the door opens and Piero comes out dancing, wearing the trousers, the dress shirt and the bow-tie of his stage suit, and swirls around grabbing orchestra members, already in their evening dresses, who laugh. His father, standing in front of the door, smiles understandingly. Ignazio and Gianluca come out and join the improvised dancing, then someone reminds them that there are only a few minutes left before the beginning of the concert and they return quickly into their respective dressing rooms. A few seconds later, Ignazio comes out again in his socks and with his shirt unbuttoned and runs to the entrance of the corridor screaming at the manager as he passes: “I have to go and get Alessandra’s cousin, they won’t let her in.” He returns shortly afterwards with the young girl and introduces her to everyone before locking himself in again.

A costumer, hurrying to bring Gianluca’s suit, knocks into someone, the jacket slips from the hanger, falls to the ground and someone involuntarily steps on it, leaving it all wrinkled; it needs to be re-ironed immediately. An episode that would surely trigger the wrath of others, ends up in laughter and jokes: “I told you it would have been best to wear non-ironing clothes … better even, disposable clothes!”

Therefore Ignazio and Piero are ready first, and while waiting for Gianluca, they joke with the orchestra conductor. When there are only five minutes left to the beginning of the concert, a production staff member announces that there is a journalist who would like to interview the boys. Michele Torpedine, their manager, argues that there is very little time but they say they are available. Ignazio and Piero invite him into the dressing room and Gianluca joins them shortly afterwards.

At this point it is quite normal to wonder whether the journalists who have often painted them as conceited and arrogant were trying to exercise a perverse power in shaping public opinion by presenting them in the opposite way as they really are. These three boys are in fact the antithesis of prima-donna behaviour, they are astonishing for their humility and simplicity. It’s as if they have been able to separate their artistic dimension from their personal one, preserving the solid principles and values given to them by their families, who still show an extraordinary example of loving, present, attentive, and never invasive parenting; a rare quality. This is even more remarkable thinking that these three boys, with similar characteristics, coming from different regions, have met by chance in the same place, at the same moment, creating a phenomenon that enchants the whole world. It really brings us to wonder about the power of fate.

Then time comes to move all together towards the entrance of the stage and the backstage corridor empties. The orchestra takes the stage first and plays the introductory song. Gianluca withdraws to a corner with his mother, who adjusts his bow tie, then takes a walk with his brother. Ignazio tells a joke to Pif, a popular journalist who came to interview them. Piero’s father gives a last clean to his son’s glasses, whispers something and hugs him. The orchestra is silent, the audience applauds and Michele announces, “It’s time to go up stage!” We follow the three artists who enter the crowded Palasport hall, welcomed by the roar of a frenzied crowd, and for a moment we all know what it must be like to be worshiped as idols by thousands of people.

Grazie Patrizia and Suzan for this wonderful article.  You have given us a rare and incredible look at what goes on BACKSTAGE!

Maria Leps ~ From Philadelphia to Sicily

Maria at the gate. 2 hours - 90 degrees - what a fan!
Maria at the gate.  2 hours!  90 degrees!  what a fan!

Together with my daughter I attended my first Il Volo concert on June 26 at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA. I was in the isle seat and directly behind me is the ‘cat-walk’ where our marvelous guys sang. We were able to shake their hands several times as they sang behind us.

Looking at that handsome Ignazio!
Looking at that handsome Ignazio!

I had this shirt made at a shop but I am wearing the black official Il Volo shirt. He was so close! It was the thrill of my life. I am so proud of them as I am from Sicily. The shirt I had made has their picture, the names of the 3 towns they come from and ‘Baci di Catania’ on it (my home town).

Gianluca replied to my daughter, Luisa, as he sang on the catwalk. She told him ‘you are magnificent‘ and he replied ‘ thank you‘ and shook her hand. He was being mobbed at the edge of the catwalk by female fans and he almost fell on my lap! I would have gladly caught him! Part of this is on another video of our boys. She is now an avid Il Volo fan, too. Piero passed right behind us and we got to shake his hand, too! You can see this video of us with our adorable and talented guys:

http://youtu.be/KK5uRhF6rag

I have all their records and know each song. ALSO, because of them, in May 2015, I am returning to Sicily  for the first time in 45 years to visit my family there and they promised to take me to Naro and Marsala. I am from Catania so it is very close to Naro. I plan to have pizza at Nina Boschetto’s Pizzeria, Pizzeria Dei Desideri. I would love to also go to Montepagano which is near my cousins, but it all depends on my brother and sister-in-law whom I am traveling with. All my young nieces and nephews adore Il Volo and went to Taormina to see their concert. I have a childhood friend there, a retired doctor, who said he knows Ignazio and Piero from when they were children!!! Am I lucky, or what!

Please keep up your wonderful site! I check it every day.

Love to all,
Maria Leps

Maria,
I’m too jealous to even talk to you!

With IL VOLO, Angels All Around ~ by Jeanine DuBois

How do you express the magnificence of IL VOLO,

the treasures of Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca?

…Painfully Beautiful*? stunning? incredible? amazing?

For me, IL VOLO, Our Guys, are truly Angels All Around…

…the guys ~ angels of kindness, love, sweet humor, authenticity

…their fans ~ angels of love, friendship, anticipation, excitement

…IL VOLO’s entourage, their angels ~

whispering in our ears, sparkling in our eyes, cooing in our hearts

…IL VOLO’s music ~ how can a single note be so rich, vibrant, soaring?

how does their harmony blend like birds swooping in unison?

perhaps every molecule of air bursts into song with them!

Squisitamente belissimo!**

The IL VOLO effect? ~

discovering our wings, we are transported, uplifted, soaring in ecstasy!

2014 Saratoga, the Mountain Winery, Connie’s and my road trip, my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary was rich with angels in all shapes, all forms, all moments. So this is my story, not an official Flight Crew blog. I’m that person who loves Einstein’s quote,”There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” So, as you read this, expect a miracle… or two.

IMG_angel_collage_smlst

I realize now that the angels were on board before our trip ever started.

If you’re curious for details, my expanded story, with angel winks, found money, Carnegie Hall, and more is on my Reflections Page,

http://www.compassions-doorway.com/Jeanine_reflections.html

Fans-become-friends, thanks to our angelic blog!

(left to right: Jeanine, Elaine, Pirate Connie)

Connie was a fantastic travel buddy. Easy-going, interesting, expressive as needed, and good ole’ pirate humor! Together we soared with the tunes and supported each other’s heartfelt experiences of The Guys.

Elaine was a treasure to get to know. Tour-guide par excellence in San Francisco, exchanging IL VOLO concert experiences, and sharing her spunky, fun true self.

~ While waiting for our menus on the patio at Florentine Trattoria, I mistook two ladies for our dinner company. Turns out they were headed to see IL VOLO, too, so Mary Ellen and Carol joined us. Mary Ellen seems potential  Flight Crew material, and her friend Carol now understands that there are thousands of us just as fanatical about the IL VOLO mystique as Mary Ellen!  😉

~ Once in The Mountain Winery parking lot, we swapped stories with several IL VOLOvers, including Sharon and Patty.

~ Delighted to meet up with Vicki, Lauren, Gerri and her friend, we shared hugs, photos, and IL VOLO appreciation. Hoping for more in the future!

~ The biggest surprise was meeting Agnes and Marisse from Guatemala! What sweethearts, and talk about enthusiasm… traveling to another continent for 3 days of concerts!

Thanks, Elaine, for posting all the great photos!

My parents and sister and her husband loved the concert! IL VOLO’s sweet, fun, cute hearts extra-animated my sister. So now she knows… it’s not “just” that they sing more incredibly than anyone we know!  😉

~ The next day, at my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary celebration, I hooked my iPhone to their TV and brought an IL VOLO tribute into their living room with “L’amore e’ …amare l’amore” [Love Is… Love Love] by and with Toto Cutugno. (The video is in my expanded story.) Mom and Dad so enjoyed this among many loving touches!

And the concert… Holy Moly!

Oh my gosh! The closest I’ve ever been is the dress circle (first row balcony), and those two concerts were heavenly! But this… this was our view of the stage… third row aisle with no one in front of us!

Seeing:

…Ignazio motioning just an inch more volume to his mic.

…Piero smiling with pleasure at the crowd.

…Noticing Gianluca’s gentle hands.

Experiencing:

…The excitement in the young lady Gian sang to.

…A moment of Piero, Gianluca, and Ignazio each looking into my eyes and me into theirs.

…Seeing Gianluca’s eyes particularly sparkly at the end of the concert.

…As the concert was ending, going up to the stage and clasping Gianluca’s hand.

IMG_IL_VOLO_MtW_stage_6-2014sm

And still, whether I’m in the most distant seat from the stage,

at home in front of my computer,

or happily singing along with an IL VOLO tune,

IL VOLO’s music uplifts my heart into new realms of joy because…

IMG_IL_VOLO_SwirlLoveEnergies_txt

So much love, joy, harmony, fun, celebration! I think I sat on the edge of my seat the entire concert, taking in every note, every smile, every nuance. We were flying high with IL VOLO Love!

And then… our Meet & Greet!

OK, there were aspects that could have been better (it was a dark space for photos, they were rushed, I could feel the stress of the gentleman moving us along).

Yet none of that colored my brief moments with the guys.

I had made a card for each, told them amazing things:

~ How Divine Grace angels had spoken to me of the soul group “Truth Through Music”, how the angels proclaimed “music is the breath of God”, and still more treasured words about IL VOLO!

~ About healings which came through their music.

~ About the day Ignazio’s tweet inspired me to write a multimedia book, IL VOLO: The Synergy of Love.

~ About my gratitude for their commitment to Truth and goodness, standing with their Venezuelan brothers and sisters.

In turn, I looked into each of our angel’s eyes, handed him the card, and said “Promise me you’ll read this. There’s something special in there.” Each one gave me a wonderful hug ~ with Ignazio, only after he said to me “Please!” Oh my Yes, Please! I so did not mean to be rude. I just had waited so long to share these angelic insights. I had to deliver these words of wonder!

Then Gianluca gave me a gentle kiss and a hug.

IMG_Gianluca_hug_kiss_Jeanine

The photo was snapped, and I was left in awe of such an evening!
