Italy: Eurovision success triggers change to main channel

The good run since their comeback peaked with Il Volo this year

Rome, Italy

The Eurovision Song Contest is becoming more and more popular in Italy since their comeback to the competition in 2011. That’s why the 2016 Final will be shown live in RAI 1, their public broadcaster’s main channel.

Following a series of good rankings and having some of their top artists representing them at the Eurovision Song Contest, the Italian broadcaster, RAI, is switching the live broadcast of the Eurovision Final to their first channel, after five years being broadcasted in Rai 2. In fact it will be back live on Rai 1 for the first time in 25 years. The last time being in 1991 when Italy hosted the competition in Rome.

Keeping an eye on Sanremo

It is also announced now that, just like this year, the winning artist of the “CAMPIONI” section will have the right to participate representing Italy at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The “CAMPIONI” section is the “established artists” category of the Sanremo contest. So basically this means that it’s up to the winning artist to decide about the Eurovision participation and also about the song to be performed in Stockholm.

The winner of the 2015 edition of Sanremo, Il Volo, also went on to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with the same song, Grande Amore:

Il Volo’s success story continues

After the amazing third place -and first in the televote- in Vienna, Italian sensation Il Volo continue their story of success around the world. After completing a sold-out summer tour through Italy right now the trio is on a promo tour through Europe. So far they visited Germany and France while Spain and more countries are to follow.

The reason is to showcase their brand new album, entitled as their Eurovision Song Contest entry, Grande Amore. The Eurovision hit is included in the release as well as their follow-up single L‘Amore Si Muove:

  1. IL VOLO brings some excitement to every event they participate. I feel they added a lot to Eurovision 2015. Wonder if they will have some duties at the 2016 Sanremo. I just hope the management lets they boys go home and have some good rest soon. They looked tired lately.

  2. Gina, I agree they look tired. Who wouldn’t be. What a grueling life style. It’s good they are so young. Joanie G

  3. I agree with both of you ladies! And I think Piero has been sick. Photos of him from around the time of the Columbus Day parade and at the visit to the opera house show his eyes looking glazed and feverish. He also had his scarves up tight around his neck. Barbara had the flu so maybe he caught it from her. And then they get to Argentina, and his suitcase is lost! Poor guy!!
If you look at their schedule for 2016, it’s positively grueling and they are all over the globe!
I hope the Guys’ management company and SONY aren’t getting a little giddy with their success and pushing them too hard. Something to the effect of ” killing the golden goose.” In the words of my father “the almighty dollar.”
I guess the sour skeptic in me has come out to play this afternoon! So, I’ll take myself off and do something constructive!

  4. That is nice Eurovision will be broadcast live on RAI 1 this next year. I truly hope the judging gets some tweaking before then. Although the event as a whole allowed our guys to get tons more notice, the judging system is a little whacko I’d say. Thanks for the info, Marie.

  5. A great article, Marie! I’m with all you ladies, the guys have been tired!!! At PBS Gianluca said he was going to his room & sleep! The Hilton was across the street!!! Ignazio Sat beside me!! He sat, he didn’t move around!! He wasn’t rearranging his hair, his clothes, or the computer in front of him! He sat & we talked! I did write my PBS story on the 27th of Sept & was almost finished! The D____ thing disappeared into cyber space & I don’t know how to find it!!! I will write it again in a few days & send it to Kelly!
It is my hope that they will have some time at home when they are thru with the promotional tour!! They need relax time!!!

  6. The new album continues to climb the charts in the United States! This week on the Billboard Classical Albums international version is confirmed in first place for the third week in a row, and the Spanish version rooms in 5 position. Grande Amore also reached the top spot on the Billboard Pop Albums and the second on the Top Latin Albums!

  7. At morning I wrote the wrong information. Next stop of boys is Colombia. They’ll visit Brazil even at November.
