REVIEWS TO MORRICONE’S TRIBUTE by Daniela

Many of you, in the comments after the various articles on the Verona concert, asked me for the opinion of the press.
I have not forgotten about this and therefore here I am giving you my opinion.
I want it to be clear, that it is only my personal opinion, maybe I am too protective, towards Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, or maybe, like a mother, I want the best for them, because I think they deserve it, and therefore also this time, I was disappointed with the reviews in the press, or rather, I was half satisfied, but I certainly expected more.

Left to right: Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio in white t-shirts before a concert

Let’s start from the fact, that the concert was magnificent and you have all been able to see it.
The television ratings have absolutely rewarded the concert, they had the maximum ratings of the evening, therefore a real success.
The next day, it was Sunday, but I expected that the newspapers and television news, at least those of RAI, would write or say a few words of congratulations.
Those few newspapers that reported the news, did it purely as a news item, “Il Volo had the best ratings”, no compliments to the three boys.
On the Sunday after the concert, I watched the RAI news and also all the entertainment shows that also report the news of the various shows.
NOTHING, no one has talked about it, nor in the news, not even in the gossip broadcasts.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

Here are some of the articles, of which I will translate the best parts.

The music has restarted and it has done so in a big way with a show that is not only musical. Starring Ignazio Boschetto, Piero Barone and Gianluca Ginoble who, in the unprecedented role also of conductors of the evening, led the spectators and viewers of Rai 1 in an evening dedicated to sharing. Il Volo, Tribute to Ennio Morricone had the merit of turning the lights back on to music.

The opening on the notes of Ecstasy of Gold, the main piece of the soundtrack of Once Upon a Time in the West, was exciting.
Two and a half hours of music, memories and emotions in a journey not only linked to the figure of the Maestro, but which fits perfectly with the musical journey undertaken over the years by the three boys, increasingly careful to bring excellence around the world of our country.
Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca then retraced their 12-year career, with significant images and with the performance on the notes of ‘O Sole Mio, a song they sang as children, and Grande Amore, the piece with which they triumphed at the Festival of Sanremo 2015.
Music is sharing and it certainly cannot save the world, but it certainly has the merit of making it more enjoyable. Especially after the terrible year and a half in which we changed our perspective on the present and the future.

After a long season without concerts, live music officially resumes thanks to the concert held this evening, Saturday 5 June, in the splendid setting of the Verona Arena. Protagonists Gianluca Ginoble, Ignazio Boschetto and Piero Barone, the three souls and the three voices of Il Volo. Two and a half hours of beautiful music, a concert-tribute to the romantic and visionary genius of Ennio Morricone.
Broadcast live on Rai Uno, the event certainly did not disappoint expectations.
In the lineup some of the most beautiful songs already interpreted in the past by the trio ….. Inevitable some of the themes composed by Ennio Morricone for the cinema … national pop scene …. Finally, from the very first listening, the unpublished “I Colori dell’amore” (The Colors of Love), signed for the occasion by Maestro Andrea Morricone, a particularly suggestive piece, crowning an unforgettable evening. We start again … we start again in a great way.

People, as many people as they have not seen in the same place for a long time. With the masks, the right distances ……. the music has started again, the Verona Arena has been granted to a few thousand people who have been excited for almost three hours together with Il Volo which paid homage to the teacher Ennio Morricone. A perfect evening for climate, program and joy, to the point of (almost) forgetting the waiting time “justified” by television times ….. an evening that will go down in history.
Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio start with Ecstasy of Gold, the theme of The Good, the Ugy and the Bad by Sergio Leone. Then a few words, presented Andrea Morricone ………. who will conduct the orchestra in some pieces during the evening. One is Your Love …….. the three artists remember when, in 2016, they participated in the tribute evening to the three tenors Pavarotti-Domingo-Carreras. The composition cannot be anything but the Nessun Dorma and the execution is thrilling; the orchestra, directed by Maestro Marcello Rota, and the choir the latter arranged as tradition dictates in front of the stage, immense …………… The colors of love is the piece created for Il Volo by Andrea Morricone followed, for the last standing ovation, by Libiamo ne ‘lieti calici, aria from La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the reprise of Estasi Dell’Oro. With a dedication to the people that Covid has taken away and a thought to Vito, Ignazio Boschetto’s father who died last March, the circle closes, the music remains in the air. And, I’m sure, people are finally smiling under the masks.

Il Volo-Tribute to Ennio Morricone: success for the concert that bewitched the audience.
… aired on Rai1 last night live from the Verona Arena, it won the prime time with a 25% share, winning 4,702,000 viewers.
…… The exclusive concert-event of the international trio Il Volo, in honor of Maestro Ennio Morricone, saw Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca alternate conducting, accompanied by Marco Giallini and Laura Chiatti. The Filarmonia Veneta Regional Orchestra was conducted by Maestro Marcello Rota, with special participation in some pieces by Maestro Andrea Morricone.
The event, which also marked the reopening of the Verona Arena’s musical season, lasted over two hours, winning one standing ovation after another from the audience present at the Arena.

Certainly these are all positive articles, but they are few and moreover from minor newspapers, certainly not those that, after Notte Magica, have really said very badly about them.

Left to right: Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio smiling

But one yes, I had a great satisfaction reading IL FATTO QUOTIDIANO.
This newspaper had written very badly after Notte Magica, using titles like this: ”Il Volo on Canale 5, the great opera scam: we hope that people will keep them abroad, so, at least for a while, we get rid of them”.
IL FATTO QUOTIDIANO:
IL FATTO QUOTIDIANO Article – Click Here
The three tenors have returned to live music for the only concert scheduled for this year. The Verona Arena was sold out with a Covid capacity of 6 thousand people to applaud the most famous arias of Maestro Morricone and the many guests on stage. Emotion for a special dedication to Ignazio’s father that Piero Barone made at the end of the show.
The challenge was twofold. The great return to prime time live on Rai Uno and all three alone to conduct, without any intermediary. The result of “Il Volo – Tribute to Ennio Morricone”? In front of the screen last night there were 4,702,000 viewers and 25.8% share. Excellent listening that rewarded an evening that was indeed the celebration of the great Maestro but also the story of Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, their story between anecdotes and songs from their repertoire included in the lineup. The event was organized in full compliance with anti Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.
……………Excited, the three tenors dedicated the event “to the people who didn’t make it. Our thoughts go up there to them.” Piero then added: “This concert is dedicated to Vito who we miss so much and is watching us from up there.” That is, Ignazio’s father who died of an illness on February 28th. The concert will be broadcast in the United States by the PBS network. Il Volo will return to America next year for a series of concerts, while the Morricone tribute album will be released later this year and will be sold all over the world.
But the journalists who had written so badly about Il Volo after Notte Magica, where did they go?
What happened to them??? This time they didn’t write anything bad, but not only that, they didn’t write anything at all, as if the event hadn’t happened.
And then the articles that I first translated are beautiful, but there is no direct compliment to the boys, nothing that says about their personal growth, artistic maturation, praise to their voices.

IL VOLO at the piano with Maestro Grani during the concert

The only really beautiful article, no ifs and buts, is the one published by VANITY FAIR, really well written, you understand that whoever wrote it was really present and experienced the emotions of that concert.
VANITY FAIR:

The Arena di Verona reopens its doors to music starting from Il Volo with a show in honor of Ennio Morricone, live on Rai Uno. We stayed with them in Verona.
Months of closed doors, silence. The Verona Arena turns the lights back on and lets the music play, starting with Il Volo – Tribute to Ennio Morricone, a concert event, in honor of the great Maestro. Broadcast live on Saturday 5th June on Rai Uno, it marks the great restart of the summer season of one of the most important places for Italian music.
It is a special evening. The three boys appear excited, after days of rehearsals, which ended at two in the morning the night before.
A show prepared in detail, where for the first time the two tenors and the baritone also play the role of television hosts but choose not to read the hunchback, in order to be more free to be themselves. The difference can be seen, after a somewhat rigid start in the spoken parts, when they finally break up joking with each other. It is their beauty. Serious and composed as they sing, they appear much more fun (and entertained) if they let themselves go to their dynamics of colleagues (and especially friends) who have been working together for the past 12 years. Instead, no hesitation in the sung parts, from the first note of Your Love, the song that opens the concert, among the images of the film Once upon a time in the west. They show once again, in this first concert after a year and a half of stoppage which for them is also the first live television broadcast, that they are professionals able to fill the sky of Verona with three powerful voices that fit together perfectly and excite an audience that stands up many times, in continuous standing ovations, demonstrating great participation and emotion to the three protagonists.
“These have been difficult days for us. We’ve been thinking about doing a live broadcast for a long time, but we’ve always wanted to wait, we didn’t think we were ready. Today we want to send a message to young people. Never give up on your dreams. Because we didn’t do it,” says Ignatius, just as one of their dreams comes true.
…………It is their only 2021 concert in Italy and is also broadcast in the United States by the PBS network. “The best thing is to see so many people working on this event,” they say. And with them there are also the dancers, as if to emphasize that the art that must start again also passes through dance.
………….What you don’t see on TV are the ladies in the front rows waving to greet them or the people outside the Arena listening. The greetings of the three, when they are not framed and the words during the advertising blacks. There are also many foreigners who have come from abroad to attend the show. “We have experienced shortcomings and distances. There are those who have had great losses and those who have great satisfaction. We are dedicating this concert to people who have not made it. Our thoughts go up there to them,” says Ignatius. And among them there is also his father Vito, who died suddenly in March. “This concert is dedicated to Vito who we miss so much and is watching us from up there,” says Piero at the end, in a moment that becomes very emotional but which again leaves room for the professionalism of three friends who support each other. And so, while Ignazio sings perhaps at his best, the hands of Gianluca, visibly moved, look for his, to support him, in the most difficult, but also the most exciting, moment of the whole show.
They show their nuances, especially when they go on stage alone. Gianluca sings Your Song by Elton John showing his more pop side, dedicating the song to his mother, sitting in the front row. Piero, with Andrea Griminelli on flute, No puede ser nueva and Ignazio Listen accompanied by an eight and a half year old boy, Julian Iorio, on saxophone.
The tribute to the maestro therefore also goes through great songs such as Volare, My Way, O sole mio. And there is also Grande Amore, the song with which they won in 2015 at the Sanremo Festival. At the end they thank them, they dedicate an encore to the cameras off to the standing audience, they hope they enjoyed the show «We were very anxious. But we gave everything .
In their future there is now a period of rest. One more day in Verona and then everyone at home, waiting to be able to leave for a tour in 2022 that they hope will keep them busy for at least two years. Before then, however, a new disc for Sony Music, which will be this tribute to the maestro and which will arrive after the summer. “After a year and a half you gave us oxygen,” they tell the audience. And the public too, it is evident, has breathed this evening.
Left to right: Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero sitting and singing on stage
Of course, other newspapers have reported good comments, but they are publications linked to them by friendship, such as Il Resto Del Carlino (newspaper of Bologna) or the newspapers of Abruzzo and Sicily, even the newspaper of the Arena, but there was no doubt that they wrote well of Il Volo.
Mute scene, however on the part of all the television programs, nobody talked about it.
In short, I was satisfied because there were no obvious “attacks” on our boys, but I’m not thrilled with what was written.
I repeat, maybe it is my feeling, but I would have liked more, for so much work, so much art, so much beauty, which Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca have certainly been able to give us.
Let me know your thoughts.

  1. The silence of the Italian media is truly hard to understand. Whether the journalists personally like Il Volo or not, isn’t it their professional duty to report on an event so popular? At least, the public had the right reactions and it’s great to hear our three young men appreciate it. (We really must stop calling them boys…)

    1. In fact Renée, the reaction of the audience and the resonance that we fans have rightly given, to such a beautiful concert, I think is the greatest response that Il Volo could have.

  2. It is so sad and hard to understand why the Italian press treats them so badly they should be so proud of these three lovely and talented young men. I am sure it must hurt them but they have the love and respect of their fans all over the world.

    1. Camille, I think the Italian press treated them too badly at the beginning, now they can’t give sincere compliments. I think this situation certainly hurts the boys, but up to a point, their lyric teacher, after Magical Night, said that they were prepared for these acid comments and to overcome them.

  3. The press is looking for something that sells them and their affiliated media. In that regard, I believe they didn’t write because of two things. First, there was nothing to complain about. No scandal, no wrong notes no nothing. That doesn’t sell journals, et al. Secondly, the press doesn’t want to appear wrong in their original assessment of the guys. That would show the press is vulnerable and can make mistakes. But as we all know the press is almighty and infallible!!! We should delight in the fact that they work to improve themselves regardless of what the press says. All in all, it is we, the fans, and the guys that will ultimately be the winners in all this.

    1. Roxanne, you have fully hit the problem, our guys, have nothing to criticize or to set as a bad example and it seems that being “good people”, without too many vices, as well as not making an audience in the articles, is also very scary to the journalists.
Incredible but true, you know, ….they could be taken as an example !!!

  4. Daniela, I’m sure your interpretation and assessments are the truest ones, as you have been studying the press releases for a long time. They seemed somewhat watered down. How could they not show more enthusiasm for such an awesome production in a year when there are no other productions? There has to be a reason why 6 thousand people would assemble and repeatedly stand and applaud. Not to mention many other IL Volo concerts where there are thousands more. It was such a tremendous undertaking, that alone deserves far more acclaim. Instead not much mention of the guys interpretation and delivery.

    1. Yes Mark, in fact those articles spoke well of the concert, but without ever referring directly to congratulating Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, all very impersonal.
Only Vanity Fair has grasped all the nuances, surely whoever wrote the article was present at the concert !!

  5. I agree with Roxanne! As the saying goes “No news is Good News”, but in this case, as far as the written media is concerned — GOOD NEWS IS NO NEWS!!! With the exception of Vanity Fair, which gave an excellent report of the concert, the others seemed unable to commit themselves to agreeing that Il Volo is not only an exceptional group, but a HAPPENING! As long as thousands turn out to their concerts and show proper appreciation for the hard work and dedication of Il Volo, our young men have nothing in the music world that could even come close to their excellence.

    1. I completely agree Dolores, I even replied to Roxanne.
I believe that the real strength of Il Volo is us, fans who have imposed ourselves to make their artistic value understood (although it is evident) and their charisma, filling their concerts and buying their CDs.
Journalists must surrender to the evidence.

  6. I agree with everything Roxanne Pappas posted. Spot on–the press always looks for the sensational and/or scandalous stories to grab the attention of readers who thrive on gossip. They know nothing about good music, and I say without conviction–THEY ARE JEALOUS. True journalism does not exist.

Our guys don’t need their accolades; they have the support of their families, friends and millions of fans all over the world.

Most newspapers are good for one thing–to line the bottom of birdcages!

    Elisa Marie

    1. Very true Elisa Marie, true journalism does not exist, or at least what it once was.
Now they fill us with written and rewritten news, copied from each other.
In these days there are daily articles dedicated to Il Volo, to talk about what? Of the fact that Ignazio had a girlfriend named Alessandra and Gianluca one named Francesca, of the fact that Piero took his high school exams (two years ago), in short, old news already outdated, and they don’t say anything about the concert !! Incredible.

  7. Daniela, first and foremost I love your articles and greatly appreciate the English translations. I look forward to everyone of your articles and all of the articles posted on here.

It sounds as though some of the journalists in Italy are no better than the talking heads we have here in the U.S. I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for any of them.

How anyone could not be appreciative of what these amazing young men give the world is beyond me. There is so much ugliness in the world and these 3 men bring only love and beauty. I would hate to think of our world without them. They are such a shining example of what we should want from our younger generation.

Their concert in Verona was EXCEPTIONAL in every sense of the word.

Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful thoughts and images of these three beautiful and talented young men. They truly are a gift from God.

    1. Thanks Gina for your appreciation.
As I understand it, it is not only Italian journalism that has problems.

True journalism must stick to the facts, sometimes I am amazed at the reactions of certain journalists when they understand that people are there for Il Volo, that people travel a long way, even flights to see their favorites.

All this is not driven only by the cold virtuosity of an artist, it is the whole package that our guys offer us that we like.
Some journalists have not yet understood this.

  8. A note to Daniela,

Thanks for the translation of the press articles about the IL VOLO Verona concert Tribute to Ennio Morricone. I understand why you feel the way you do being so supportive and protective of Gianluca, Piero, Ignazio. You have demonstrated your love and respect for our 3 guys and their talent by all the time you spend reviewing and translating everything about them and their concerts that we fans appreciate so much and are forever grateful to you, Daniela.

I know everyone agrees with my thoughts about you–we do not want you to be stressed by negative and/or lack of fair, detailed press reviews that don’t properly cover the phenomenal concerts, the music, the videos, the background stories, the orchestra, and so on.

Facts are black and white; whereas vivid colorful words paint a picture that turns the blank page into a rainbow. Some of the Italian so-called journalists need a lesson in painting, and they should use crayons instead of “sharp” pencils!!!

Daniela, you can certainly teach them plenty about phenomenal writing.

    Elisa Marie

    1. But thank you, Elisa Marie, how many beautiful compliments, you made me blush!

I like to write about our guys and I don’t mind doing it, thinking of all of you who read with pleasure. On the other hand, I am struck by the different treatment that there is here in Italy, where singers who are breathless and without any restraint, are almost taken as an example, and deserving people both artistically and personally are almost ignored.

  9. I agree with the comments about the press. But I think Il Volo has what is really important- the love, appreciation, and support of their fans. After reading the comments posted here for the last year I think Il Volo fans have one quality many other fans don’t. We are very protective of the guys ( with you Daniela being the best example). We always want to protect them as if they are our own children. I’m sure this upsets the press because no matter what nonsense they print about the guys we will defend them. Pietro, Gianluca, and Ignazio will continue to sell out their concerts because they are not only the best, most talented singers, they are outstanding young men.

    1. I agree Cathy, what better reward for our boys, to have our affection and our esteem?
I must also tell you that when I started following Il Volo, after Sanremo 2015, there were many negative comments and few people who admitted their admiration for these guys, because they were a little confused by the comments of the journalists. Now, however, there are many people who admit their affection and defend Il Volo and fewer and fewer unjustly bad comments. People are no longer afraid to admit their obvious preference for Il Volo.

  10. Again, Thank you Daniela and all Il Volovers. I appreciated all of your feelings, comments and supports for our Il Volo. I feel we are spot on in our comments. The concert was truly “phenomenal”. Planned and executed in the best way. To me, this was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming concerts including the ones in Italy. We will fill all those events and continue to share the love we share with ourselves and Il Volo. Whether they are written about or not, they will continue to sell out concerts, even in Italy. We will continue to travel to see them in spite of the press. They are missing out on a true “Italian phenomenon” and don’t even know it.

    1. Kay, this is the best result, filling their concerts and making them feel all our love.
The press are just words, our affection is reality.

  11. Love all the remarks that you all had to say ..and you are all right no matter what they say about our Young man we’re here for them, we’re not here because they’re young and good-looking guys we’re here for them because they’re talented they have Beautiful and Voices, respectable and they love what they do and we love it all…I love them so much I go to the park every morning for 2 hrs dancing to their music you know how beautiful that is as beautiful as they are ….Daniela thank you for all you do for us I’d rather read your articles then the newspaper any time thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

    1. Thanks Nilda, you are very welcome to start your mornings well.
They introduce positivity and everything looks better.
As I said, it’s not just the talent, it’s all they are that we like.

  12. Once again thank you for sharing your thoughts Daniela.

Sadly the ‘ladies and gentlemen’ of the press are not madly interested unless they can come up with something nasty to say. Now if they were drug takes, were drunk every night, insulted people, now the press would sit up and take notice then, write reams and reams to fill their nasty little rags.

Just so long as they keep singing their beautiful music is all that matters to those of us who are fans of these beautifully talented young men. 🙂

  13. Thank You Daniela, A broad response. I liked the
Sky TV closing “..the music remains in the air”
I appreciate your dedication. Thank you Pat as well.

  14. To everyone who posted: I’ve read them all and I am so delighted we all agree with each other about the “infantile” Italian press. We have the same bunch of copycat journalists and commentators who print and say what we call in America “FAKE NEWS.”

Glad my birdcage remark made Daniela and others laugh. I am sure Ignazio, Gian and Piero are laughing at those empty articles, that is, if they are even reading them. They have more important things to do in their fulfilled lives while the press pool of “spoiled brats” hide in their little two-by-four-feet boxed-in writing spaces!!!

Oh, I meant to say cesspool, not press pool.!!!

    Smile, Smile, Smile.

    Elisa Marie

    1. What a wonderful sense of humor you have, Elisa Marie. You must be a great person to know on a one-to-one basis. My sides would be sore from all your remarks!!! Don’t ever change! Dolores

  15. As the Irish defector and a hard core bottom liner, I just have to ask……..in Italy is there no comfort in laughing all the way to the BANK?….?

    1. I understand this, Boston Girl no, of course I don’t get down on it.

I understand that we fans are right, but reading a well-deserved reward to these guys would be good for many people, not just them.

  16. Agree wholeheartedly with all the fans/“crew”!

Recognizing and celebrating the joy that Il Volo brings to the world is all that matters.

Thank you for continuing to take us on this wonderful musical flight, brightening our lives. Grazie.

    1. Chicago Love, after all, the full name of our crew is Il Volo Flight Crew, Share The Love !!
And we all share our love for Il Volo !!

  17. Dear Daniela… you know I adore you and what you do for the guys and especially for English speakers with your translations. I’m not as eloquent as some of the writers before me but I know this. No other professional singers have ever been loved more. Rarely do the fans of Il Volo change favorites to follow other singers instead. We will always be here no matter what .. if the Italian press and tv talking heads are lacking in character and professionalism so be it. Nobody around the world knows their names anyway. For those few who acknowledge the great worth of Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca to Italy and the world we thank you! We do know your names! It only matters to me that the boys know their worth. They are more precious than all the world!

    1. Cara Judy Thurman, thanks for the wonderful compliments.
The success that Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca have in the world is undeniable and under the eyes of all, it struggles to be recognized by the Italian press, which sins in this because at the beginning it strongly boycotted them, but people have ears to hear and eyes to watch, and know how to draw their own conclusions.

  18. Well, I say the public has spoken. If this magnificent concert won a 25.8% share and was watched by over 4 million, 7 hundred thousand people, this seems to me to be vindication enough, along with the favorable reviews you so kindly translated for us, Daniela, plus their recent feature story in the magazine that Giovanna translated. I am still watching parts of the concert every night and am enjoying it as much as the first time.

    1. Exactly Judy Edwards, the public expressed their preference and it was overwhelming, other singers, here considered more popular than our boys, did not have the same television feedback.
People need to breathe clean, hear good music, I read a lot of comments and everyone was excited about an elegant evening, without bad words, with very beautiful songs sung flawlessly.

  19. I think perhaps all those critics who wrote bad things about them are now embarrassed to see how wrong they were. And while they may secretly think the guys are not so bad after all, they would never say so publicly–because they are a bunch of cowards! It takes a brave person to say in public that they were wrong. Oh well. I will take their silence.
    Sometimes silence says a lot!

    1. I think the same thing Penina, at first it was bad, but easy for the Italian press to lash out at three young kids, they had to prove their worth, but now that the years have passed, they have been successful, their voices have matured and people like them, and their repertoire also likes them, they also have exemplary life behaviors … it’s hard, for journalists to recognize that they were wrong, some of them, who at first wrote badly about Il Volo, have known personally Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca and have changed their minds.

  20. It seems that many in the Italian press just do not realize what great professionals these young men are – not just with production skills but with such gorgeous voices! At least, Il Volo has their ardent fans!! Dena Pitchfork, Mercer Island, Washington U.S.A.

    1. Dena, let’s say that the value of Il Volo is notoriously under the eyes of all, it is difficult to admit it in the articles, and so, better keep quiet.

  21. Twelve years of captivating huge audiences says a lot too! They must be doing something right, don’t ‘ya think???

The purveyors of junk music may not like them, but professional musicians and knowledgeable, discerning fans of beautiful music absolutely love them! (Placido Domingo, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Griminelli, to name a few). They should take pride in who their audiences are and ignore the critics.

Thanks to Daniella and Joanna for the translating!

    1. In fact Sally, it’s not just us fans who appreciate them, there are important artists who recognize their value.
At first, the Italian public was conditioned by the comments of journalists who portrayed them as haughty boys and who sang old songs, but the people gradually understood that they are journalists’ falsehoods, and admire Il Volo more and more.

  22. I think the press is upset because they would like to report nasty things about the, and they can’t not only do they sing unbelievable but they sow such love and respect for each other and their families and I believe it’s bothers them thinking the boys should show attitude and they don’t their loss

    1. Ernestine, you’re right, the press doesn’t know what to write about them ……..
      do they sing badly? NO
      they are ugly?? NO
      are they rude ?? NO
      they dress badly ?? NO
do they have bad habits ?? NO
do they have bad families ?? NO

………. they certainly cannot write that they are good singers, beautiful boys, always elegant, with good habits, polite and with good families …….. where is the news?

  23. I am amazed by the attitude of the media in Italy. How can we from all over the world evaluate them with the highest evaluation, and in their own country, ignore them? The Bible says that a prophet is not recognized in his own country. I’m sorry for them! Instead of being proud of Il Volo! Shame!

    1. Yes. It is an enigma considering how hard the boys work and how beautiful their sound truly is.

  24. Thank you for interpreting these reviews for us. Over all the reviews were positive and Vanity Fair was the best! I tried to not be too upset about the wrong date of Vito passing. True there were no mean reviews but I don’t understand the Italian preoccupation with being mean toward Il Volo. Perhaps the reviewers have a difficult time grasping all that talent and what great ambassadors they are for the country. 💞

    1. My thoughts also Gayla, these beautiful humans are such wonderful ambassadors for their country….all Italians can be proud. They not only share with us their wonderful music humour and Talent in general, but their pride in their heritage, families and way of life……I love and so enjoy the photos and clips of “Beautiful Italy” the historical places, the food and fashion. In these difficult times when we cannot travel, it is a real joy .The press in every country have a lot to answer for… they focus on the negative and do not take the time to spread “good news”, or stories of success, and that is what we all need to read about or see in these difficult times. But you know what, it doesnt matter because these beautiful amazingly talented and successful guys have the love and respect of many thousands of people all over the world ……We love you Il Volo and the news papers will go in the bottom of the bird cages (Love that).
Thankyou Daniela for your wonderful insight and interpreting these reviews….you are a treasure.
Love and best wishes to all from Australia.

    2. Gayla, this is exactly what it seems, it seems difficult to notice so much skill and talent and also what beautiful people these three guys are, or rather, it is difficult for journalists.

  25. Thanks Annette for the compliments.
In fact, many Italians have learned to know Il Volo and they love it.
Perhaps, for some journalists who had mislabeled Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, it is difficult to reverse, but sooner or later they will have to surrender to the evidence and admit that they were wrong.

  26. Thanks for your story Daniela. I am quite surprised that some kept silent about the concert. I tell you truth, they couldn’t shut me up giving “my guys” praise, adulation, and compliments. Never in all my years have I heard music from them that just soothes and relaxes. Each has their specialty when they sing together, but have their own where it is one only and their voice is unspeakably beautiful. There are days when I play the CD non-stop with their DVD’s and my heart is full of love and joy for them. No worries IL Volo, you will be singing when my great grandchildren have children of their own. All my love to the three of you, and I plan to see you in 2022 when you come to America God willing. Come too Daniela, love to meet you. Jackie R.

    1. Jackie, it’s true, when their voices come together, they are unmatched.
People like them very much, love them. The press must come to terms with this and admit the inevitable.

  27. When it comes right down to it, my opinion is that the fans outweigh any newspaper article with their everlasting support and love for the three of them. Sure we all feel the same way wanting nothing but praise for our guys;Their concert was fantastic and the standing ovations are proof of how loved they are by the ones whose opinions really matter .Listen to their music everyday and hopefully will get to see them in 2022 in the U:S:

    1. I agree with you, in the end we overcome the impact of the press.
Certainly we would all be happier reading praise to them, but our eyes see well and our ears hear very well and that’s enough for us.

  28. I thank God for these incredible talented young men every day. God has blessed the world to have talent and voices such as IL Volo singers to bring us joy and pleasure. I am in my eighties and have traveled the world and attended many Concerts and have heard all the great singers, but none are as great as IL Volo. I will listen to them every day and night. They are God’s special blessing to the world. What a miracle in these three amazing young men and the gift of honor they have for each other and their families. My prayers for them each day is to stay grounded, stay safe and and remember that they are loved and treasured. Thank you Daniela in all you do to keep us informed about OUR wonderful IL Volo young men. We, in America and the world are blessed to have them. God bless them always and you as well.
