ONE MONTH TO SANREMO by Daniela

I’ll start immediately by telling you that the second ALL FOR ONE concert (actually it is the first concert in Verona in 2023, but broadcast on TV second) was repeated on the evening of January 5th.
Here is the announcement.

And let me tell you, it was another hit with the public.
Once again Il Volo (in rerun) had the highest ratings of the evening.
Once again Il Volo gained support from its fans.

I am very happy with this result, as already said I believe that Il Volo is much loved, more than one imagines, and I am personally very happy about it.
It’s a more than deserved success.

Looking back at this concert I could really see how much rain we got, but we all resisted all the way, two and a half hours under the incessant rain, but what a thrill.
For those who want to see the entire concert again, I propose it again below.

A short interview by Rai Radio 1 was also published, taken backstage at the New Year’s Eve concert, I propose it to you and translate it.
MAN= And we greet as we embrace:
WOMAN= Il Volo.
MAN = Il Volo which is in the backstage of the YEAR TO COME (the Crotone concert), hello guys, hello everyone how are you?
WOMAN= Hi guys.
G+I= Hello
P= Hi, good evening.
WOMAN=How are you guys?
IGNAZIO= We’re fine, the temperature is also very good, so we’re comfortable.
WOMAN= Right?
PIERO= I didn’t understand where you are?
MAN= We are behind you, practically….
WOMAN= If you turn around…. (They are behind a wall, Piero turns around and doesn’t see them)
PIERO= Why don’t we do the interview together?
MAN= Why should you walk 200 meters towards us, among people….
GIANLUCA= We would also be willing to fly to you….
WOMAN= Then we’ll be waiting for you…
MAN = While you are flying, at least with your mind, I would like to ask you: Hallelujah is an incredible song, written by Leonard Cohen, it is a little profane, a little mystical, it is a good test, it is a pop song, but also suitable for your strings.
IGNAZIO= Yes, in recent years we have been singing it a lot in our concerts because it is a moment that we dedicate to those who have not made it in these past years, which have been unforgettable years in positive and negative ways and we make every time to dedicate this song to those who have been more unlucky than us, to those who perhaps didn’t make it, to those who have suffered and continue to suffer, so it’s always a very delicate moment. It’s one of those songs that you can give whatever meaning you want, because it’s such an iconic melody, so beautiful that you can give whatever meaning you want.
MAN= It’s true and then the text is very vast….
IGNAZIO= Yes.
MAN= ….it is not simply a sacred song, it is also a slightly profane song, so it brings together many different things.
IGNAZIO= Born as a profane song.
MAN= Of course.
WOMAN = Born as a profane song.
Ignazio, guys, since we are talking about feelings, thanks to this song, what is the feeling, one for each of you three, that you want to carry with you into 2024.
MAN= Everyone has their own!
IGNAZIO= I personally am amazed, because being amazed is always a great emotion, therefore always being amazed.
WOMAN= Ignazio the amazement. Gianluca?
GIANLUCA= I think…..you go first, I’ll think about it a little…
WOMAN= First Piero.
PIERO= I’m thinking that the most important thing that I believe will save the world will be irony but above all kindness and I will try to cultivate kindness on a daily basis.
MAN= These are all important feelings that lead Il Volo to Sanremo where I believe you arrive with a positive momentum, at least with Amadeus it is no longer a real competition, but a way of sharing, I don’t know how you can experience it even as a competitor.
GIANLUCA= Let’s say that all artists like us and all people, we are never the same, we are constantly evolving, so we change personally but also artistically. There are nuances that we discover every day, every year, and that is what we want to show, this small evolution that now makes us what we are today.
We won Sanremo when we were 20 years old, we returned to the Festival when we are 30, we are still the same, with consistency, but with a few more nuances that allow us to show a new side.
PIERO= Oh yes, maybe for those who don’t know, or don’t remember, in 2024 we will celebrate 15 years of career in a few months and I believe it is the duty of three singers to celebrate them in music, so it will be a 2024 full of music.
GIANLUCA= But it is passion, which moves everything and allows you to express what you really are, if you can live from your passion, live a happy life, a life that allows you to express what you really are and our passion for music it makes us feel alive and that’s what we will bring to the Sanremo festival.
MAN= So let’s keep “passion” as the word that unites you in this, as it unites all those who listen to music, with passion, and also with the idea that with music you can make the world a little better for those who Listen.
IGNAZIO= Absolutely, in fact, we think that the adjectives, the emotions for next year are precisely: Passion, Kindness and Emotion, especially with the year we have experienced it is very important to send these messages to young people, with everything that has happened this unfortunately this year (he is referring to the wars).
WOMAN= Happy New Year guys!
MAN = Happy Flight guys.
WOMAN= See you in 2024, long live the emotion!
I+P+G= Bye!
GIANLUCA= At the festival with MASTERPIECE!

An interview with Il Volo was also announced and will be published by Sorrisi e Canzoni TV, which will follow all the Sanremo singers step by step.
Here are Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca arriving for the interview and Piero jokingly greets by saying that he didn’t miss the people from Sorrisi e Canzoni. 😁
Photo shoot for Sorrisi e Canzoni TV.

Meanwhile, the cover of the weekly Sorrisi e Canzoni TV has been released with all the singers who will be competing in Sanremo.

I warned you that competing in Sanremo meant being subjected to very strong media exposure, there will be many journalistic and television interviews, and we really like this.
While waiting for the interview in the weekly SORRISI E CANZONI TV, which will be released on January 30th, here is a nice video interview done at Il Volo on the day of the first rehearsal of the song with the orchestra.
The question that was asked to Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero was:  “How did the rehearsals for the song go?”
And here are their answers!
IGNAZIO= The rehearsals went terribly!! 😁
GIANLUCA= Let’s start well. (that means Ignazio is joking)
IGNAZIO= No, no, the rehearsals went very well, there was a crazy chemistry with the musicians, we already knew some of them, some were new….
PIERO= We know most of them…
IGNAZIO= Yes and we had a lot of fun, it’s nice to be able to sing the song that you’ve been working on for a year and a half, so it’s very nice to get here today.
GIANLUCA= Let’s say that we must never be guilty of presumption, in the sense that, when an artist stays in the studio for a year and a half, he obviously needs confirmation for the work done and therefore, seeing the positive reaction of the orchestra was for us a great achievement, there was also applause, so for us it was something wonderful and in fact we want to thank the musicians for their support, as Piero said, we know many of them….
PIERO= I haven’t spoken yet.
GIANLUCA= …..we have known many of them since we started our career and therefore it will be very exciting to be able to sing it on the stage of the Ariston ( It’s the Sanremo theatre) again.
PIERO= We’ve been working on this project for a year, it will be an entire album of unreleased songs. 2024 is an important year for us because we will celebrate our 15 years of career and this is also the main reason that we are returning to the Ariston stage, we thank Amadeus for giving us this opportunity because, as singers, the best way to celebrating your milestone in these 15 years means doing it with lots of music, with new music. After Sanremo, a big tour will follow, it will be a year of music, it will be a challenging year, but we are very, very satisfied.
IGNAZIO= No, the song was not created for Sanremo, the song was born out of the need to create our own repertoire, after GRANDE AMORE, after MUSICA CHE RESTA, we were planning to make an album of unreleased songs this year and in the end, between the various songs that are on the album came out CAPOLAVORO and when Amadeus invited us we said:
 ”This is the song for Sanremo”.
GIANLUCA= This is our third time in Sanremo, the victory in 2015 and then third, if I’m not mistaken, in 2019.
Let’s say that we want to show personal and artistic growth, not a new face, but obviously we are not the same people as when we were teenagers, so this personal change is transmitted, it also has repercussions in the artistic part, because we cannot be the same, somehow we must renew ourselves and there must be an evolution in both professional and personal life.
PIERO= Regardless of the world of music, I believe that each of us has an evolution, a personal growth, in any field, in any sector, so in addition to celebrating 15 professional years, there is also a personal growth and we care now to sing and send this message.
We often hear ourselves told that we are used to the Ariston stage, but it is completely different, we never get used to it, the Ariston is a particular stage, different from any other stage, we were born on that stage and still today we have to get used to it, and I hope this never changes because it is precisely that emotion, that adrenaline that never makes you stop seeing the world with different eyes.

Sanremo is only a month away and already the preparations and rehearsals are in full swing and amplifying the expectations for this event.
There will be a lot to read, to see, to listen to, prepare yourself for a full immersion in an atmosphere of music, gossip, beauty and often even controversy.

It’s Sanremo and here, we say:
“Because Sanremo is Sanremo”!! 🥰

  1. Daniela, as always great writing. I have questions about Sanremo. I was under the impression that Sanremo rules are such that the song wasn’t sung before being performed on their stage. So I’m confused about what the rules actually are for the event. You can answer me privately if I’m alone in my confusion.
    Who wrote the song? It has to be new? They’ve never performed it before? In all the videos I’ve seen I have only seen the announcement of the 2015 win. I don’t think the contest has been shown as a whole. Do the rules allow for recording the contest as a whole and the shown to those who don’t have the ability to see it live.
    I still love watching videos of them (can’t call them boys anymore) and have purchased some cd’s and dvd’s but very interested in hearing new music from them too. What can we on this side of the planet expect for the new year.

      1. Mark, I hope I have clarified some things for you, it also applies to you that if you have any questions to ask, I am here to answer them.

    1. Muriel, I’m trying to clarify some doubts for you. The rules of Sanremo require that the songs not be sung before the first evening of Sanremo where they will all be heard for the first time. This naturally applies to the entire audience, but the singers must be able to rehearse with the orchestra that will be in Sanremo and therefore the rehearsals take place behind closed doors, only the orchestra members are present (who cannot divulge the music outside Sanremo) and the singers, not all together, but at different times. So it’s a rehearsal behind closed doors, the singers themselves will only hear the other singers’ songs on the first evening. Another strict rule, no singer competing in Sanremo can participate as a guest on other television channels besides RAI, so we saw the Il Volo concerts on Canale 5 only thanks to the fact that they were reruns already recorded and broadcast, otherwise, live, not we could have seen them.
      The song was written by a young singer-songwriter, who has recently been writing songs that are very popular and whose name I will reveal in a future article.
      I hope I have clarified some doubts for you, if you have any questions please tell me and I will try to answer them.

  2. Thank you Daniella and Pat! This is so exciting, I wish we could vote in the USA🤨, they’d get even more votes! It sounds like a treat all year can’t wait the album to come out!…..especially since it seems they won’t come to the USA this year😢. I’m trying to get to Italy for Verona or another one Taromina?
    So grateful for your constant updates, love them and they’re always being so upbeat and postitive!💖💖💖
    Gratefully yours, Carol 🙏🏻☮️🎶🎼🎤🤗🩷

    1. You’re most welcome, Carol! Sanremo is always exciting!! I’ll vote with my prayers! 😊🙏🏻

    2. How nice Carol, we hope your wish to get here to Italy, Verona, or Taormina comes true.
      I also want to hear their next CD.

  3. Can’t wait to hear the new song. I know it is going to be a busy year for them but not giving up the hope that they will come to the states. I wish them all the luck in the world at Sanremo. Wish we were able to vote. Do you guys get to go to Sanremo and see the competition. I know you will be keeping us up to date on everything and we certainly appreciate it.

    1. Beverly, I think there is a way for you to vote, now Pat and I will inform ourselves well so that we can give you reliable information on the matter.

      1. I was originally told to wait to hear from the official fan club if it is true that those outside of Italy can vote. Otherwise, if it’s not
        “legal”, outside votes could get the boys disqualified!! Please, don’t do anything to get them disqualified!!

      2. Exactly Nina, we don’t want to harm Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca in any way, so wait and don’t trust news given randomly.
        Thanks for raising the issue.

  4. Thanks Daniela for your translations and explanations.
    Sanremo seems to be a real big deal in Italy. I was not aware how important the Sanremo contest is for the artists and about the tremendous media impact for their musical career.
    Are we able to vote from abroad, I’m from
    Germany? Guess not ???
    Love,
    Martina

    1. Martina, believe me, here in Italy everything stops to follow Sanremo, for better or for worse it is a very popular festival whose victory gives the right to participate in Eurovision.
      All the television networks, all the newspapers talk about Sanremo, which is not just a singing event, it is also an event of customs, fashion, the newspapers give report cards to the songs, the singers, how they are dressed, made up etc… ….here in Italy it is called “The Sanremo bandwagon”, for all the things it entails.
      For those who are here in Europe, I believe that the best way to vote is to have an Italian telephone card but we will provide certainties on this possibility.

  5. Oh my Daniela and Pat – seems like the two of you may have to set up camps from now till the end of the Sanremo Festival – you will be up to your ears with translations and explanations as we shall all be getting more and more excited and cannot wait to catch up with the latest news. Thank you so much for taking on this big job on our behalf.

    I enjoyed the interviews – especially the second one revealing that they have been working on the entry song for more than a year and understandable they were excited about the positive reception of same from the musicians giving them a hint of what to anticipate when it reaches the public. I didn’t realize that the name of the composer of the song had been released as well by now – and somewhat disappointed that it isn’t Ignazio whom I had thought would have been behind this particular song – so my six sense didn’t have it right this time. But oh boy the waiting time to learn and hear this song is getting unbearable.

    I cannot avoid being biased as to the possibility of having fans outside Italy being able to vote in the Sanremo festival… it doesn’t really seem fair for several reasons. Ie new singers with a fantastic song but no international career or fan base will be left without any chance of winning and after all it is an Italian affair. If the same thing should be possible at the Eurovision Song Contest it would totally have lost its idea and be totally unfair if people in the US could vote, so…. But should it be legal ok then I’ll jump on the wagon out of love to our guys, but I would hate to be part of anything that could bring the guys into the situation of disqualification, so I think we do all need to think this over thoroughly and make sure we have the correct knowledge in this respect. Sorry for my somewhat negative attitude here.

    Warmest regards – Kirsten, Denmark

    1. Actually Kirsten, I think a little like you about the possibility of voting outside Italy. Sanremo must be voted in Italy, and in fact with a landline it is not allowed outside Italy, but I believe that the problem has been raised by the many Italians abroad who have Italian SIM cards for their cell phones and in any case cannot vote for an Italian festival. So if this can be done, so be it. It would be nice if Il Volo could win and participate in Eurovision, in this way everyone from Europe (except Italy) can vote, but I remind you that in 2015 Il Volo won by a landslide in the televoting, but then due to the juries it arrived third.
      Yes, Kirsten there will be a lot to read in this month leading up to Sanremo and we will keep you informed.

    2. Thank you, Kirsten, for a new perspective on the Sanremo voting. I can see your point and didn’t consider it negative. But even shows like America’s Got Talent and all the different versions of it around the world at the end of each show have the winners decided by a popular vote. There are some people who went home who I think should have stayed because they were so good. But because they had so many followers they were voted through. It is never totally fair, is it?

      1. Thanks for your comment Pat. And I agree there is never a total fair win at these competitions. This goes for all relating to music, singing and dancing as, unfortunately, the results cannot be measured or weighted and depends on individual points of views. Hence I am really not appreciating these TV shows having the results based on a huge amount of teleports. Ie. X-factor here in Denmark has turned more into what participants can make biggest headlines with the media based on social problems in their upbringing, bullying, handicaps etc rather whether or not they can sing. As a firmer competition ballroom dancer I used to enjoy watching “Dancing with the stars”, but these days I get so annoyed and I am almost banging my head into the ceiling learning of the televotes bringing so-called influencers in front due to their huge amount of followers or football players who were once stars and have big Fanclub’s whether or not they can dance or not and the potential right winners leave way too early due to same in spite of holding max points with the adjudicators who in Denmark are very, very pro and know what they talk about. Just writing about it here has me already in the red, so sorry, I am not into tele voting. Lastly also due to the fact, that the people getting involved in tele voting are younger people while the older generations generally doesn’t bother wasting money or time doing so. And that being the case, the original Il Volo core fans may not go voting at the Sanremo festival, I fear. I rarely tele vote myself.
        Warm regards – Kirsten 🇩🇰

  6. Well, Pat and Daniela, you’ve done it again!!! None of their loyal fans will be able to cope with the anxiety of waiting for San Remo — another month!! And then, we will have to wait and see if any of the program is broadcast overseas.

    All I can say (and I can usually say a lot) is that, if it weren’t for you Daniela, Patti and Susan, Il Volo (our blessed Italian young men) would not have the fan base or following they have. It’s by you three keeping us up to date on what’s going on that has us all fired up and waiting for the next posting. Very well done and please continue what you’ve been doing since their beginning. One of YOUR fans! Hugs, Dol.

    1. Dolores, many beautiful compliments and we thank you, but believe me there are many well-made and very updated fan pages, certainly much quicker to publish than us. We prefer to delve deeper into the news and give you a more complete overview even if sometimes we are not quick to update you. Thank you for following us so affectionately.

    2. Oh Dolores, you are too kind!! 💕 You are most welcome. I get much joy from helping both Daniela and Susan bring the news of our guys to this blog site. 😊

    1. This preview of songs means nothing!! what counts at the end of the day!! – is the genuine love ALL IL Volo fans have for our amazing – TALENTED – well-adjusted guys -they ooze decency – good manners & love for all humanity!!

      1. It is NOT a preview of the songs, it is a preview of how the press will probably vote during San Remo. With a blatantly biased press, Il Volo will need to do really well with the public vote (which has a WHOPPING (I’m being sarcastic) 34%). I would love Il Volo to win and get to Eurovision, but we have to admit it ain’t gonna be easy for them. Is Mahmood really so much better? Loredana Bertè?

        The good news is that other people (not the press) who heard the song have given very favourable reviews – that the song is a winner and we will hear a difference Il Volo.

        By the way, EVERYONE has a talent. It’s not something bestowed on a privileged few.

      2. Thank you for your educated insight Thordis – I do appreciate the interesting facts you talk of – much love.

    2. Wow! I can’t believe these ratings! Even the artist Nek scored low and I thought he was so popular. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself about some of these other artists. 🙄

    3. Thordis, I also saw that table but I didn’t publish it in my next post that you will read, because it is really biased, naturally negative biased. All those newspapers are the ones that gave very low ratings to IL Volo, in my article you will read that there are also many positive comments. Unfortunately it is well known that the majority of Italian journalists do not appreciate Il Volo, I have told you about it many times and unfortunately this year on the first evening only journalists from the Press Room will vote, so I foresee a negative start.

  8. The real problem is that journalists are convinced that the type of songs that Il Volo and others sing, that is, beautiful and harmonious pop, should be thrown away and space must be given to new emerging artists who are preferred by young people. But unfortunately young people are led to think like this, because they are told that the new is beautiful and the rest sucks, and the few who praise singers like Il Volo are accused of being old, conservative, so the kids who could appreciate them rather stay silent .
