And so their first CD of unreleased songs was released.🥰
For Il Volo it was an exhausting week for the launch of the CD, interviews and appearances everywhere and we were also in the pre-Easter week, in short, intense days.
I was very lucky that two events were taking place not far from where I live and with great joy I participated in both together with my husband!!
The first event was Thursday 28th in Cologno Monzese, home of Canale 5 and also of Radio Italia where the meeting took place.
The second, the next day, March 29, was the signing of the CD at the Bussolengo shopping center in the province of Verona.
Both events were about 100 km (62 miles) towards Milan for Cologno Monzese and the other towards Verona, in short Brescia remains right in the middle of these two places, how lucky!! 😉🤪
I didn’t go to Radio Italia through the Fan club, but I asked Radio Italia directly to be able to participate as an audience in the event and after a couple of days Radio Italia responded to me confirming entry for me and another person, therefore my husband was also admitted, naturally we had to send all our personal data. We had to show up at the entrance of Radio Italia at 7:00 pm and therefore we left on time and arrived at our destination without problems. There was already a queue of people waiting, entry was slow, because everyone had to fill out an authorization to use their image, given that the program was recorded and was broadcast on TV.
We had also been warned that there were no seats, but we already knew this having already been to a similar event, again with Il Volo in 2019.
When we all entered, an entertainer explained to us how the filming worked, once Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca entered, they would sit on the edge of the small stage and be interviewed by the two presenters: Manola Moslei and Daniela Cappelletti, the short interviews they would have been one after the other, but then edited at different times in the video.
They also asked us if any of us had never attended an Il Volo concert and about ten people raised their hands.
And then they came in, beautiful as the sun, smiling, dressed casually and they smiled at everyone. 😍😍😍
I knew that their new CD was officially released the next day but I was hoping, since the show would be broadcast the next evening, that they would let us hear the new songs.
And in fact it was like this, they told us we could take photos and videos, but they recommended not to release the videos of the new songs until midnight.
I took several photos that I will publish starting with these:
As you can see we were really close to the stage, a few meters separated us from them and after the interviews, they went up on stage and allowed us in the audience to get closer to the edge of the stage itself.
What can I say, we witnessed a real mini-concert. Ignazio Piero and Gianluca didn’t hold back, they immediately sang seven new songs, starting with Capolavoro and then, at the end, they sang another four songs that we know very well, namely Il Mondo, Se Telefonando, Musica che Resta, Grande Amore.
Ernesto Ginoble and all the authors and producers were also present in the room.
Gianluca Piero and Ignazio were calm but, by their admission, very excited because it was the first time they sang the new songs in public and they really wanted to see our reaction.
And what about the new songs…. WONDERFUL!!!! ❤️
I assure you that if you listen live they are beautiful, the lyrics are very beautiful, and the music is fantastic, very well orchestrated, certainly not ridiculous and repetitive songs with some basic chords done on the computer!!!
Congratulations, a job done really well, this is my opinion, of course, and I am very happy to note that Il Volo did not let itself be carried away by the pop and rap songs that are now in fashion here in Italy, songs that are super popular with kids, but which they have no artistic value, on the contrary, the more they are full of false notes and autotune, the more they are admired. Il Volo is not this and it shows in this production of theirs. Il Volo has not changed its nature, it has become more pop, but always remaining true to itself. Of course we don’t think we’ll find singing virtuosity, which they know how to do very well, but which they will always offer us in their concerts. 😉
Now I’ll tell you a couple of things that you won’t see during the official video.
The boys were singing and it was hot, at the end of a song, while Piero was talking, Ignazio in a corner, not in the frame, took off his jacket and when they were about to start the song, the technicians stopped and told Ignazio to put his jacket back on because otherwise the people on the video would have seen that first he was wearing the jacket and then after the jacket had disappeared . Ignazio said: “But I’m dying of heat,” and so they told him he had to put it back on and let them see him undress it. So in the video you will see that as soon as one of the songs starts, Ignazio immediately takes off his jacket and throws it in the air!! 😂😂
Another moment that you won’t see: at the end of the recording, the boys said goodbye to everyone, but before getting off the stage, the direction checked that everything was ok, but they saw that a song hadn’t come out well due to technical problems, so the guys told us if we were sorry they had to redo a song……but NOOOOOO. 🤪🤣🤣🤣
Then, after having redone the song, and with the cameras off, Gianluca said: “Let’s do Capolavoro again,” and so it was and we were all singing at the top of our lungs. Gianluca noticed a child in the audience who was singing loudly and invited him to go on stage, all three boys tried to convince him, but the child didn’t want to go up, he sent them a kiss and that was it.
But I must say that Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca were really very kind and nice, and their voices did not betray us, fantastic as always.
Overall it was a beautiful mini concert, indeed, an intimate mini concert, because we were about 200 people, and completely free!! 👏👏👏
None of the audience was able to have direct contact with them, because in the end Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca went to the back stage, but I would say that we can be happy like that.

IGNAZIO= It depends, for example now in mid-April we leave for China and we have seven days of promotion first, then on the 20th we will do the concert in Shanghai therefore we will have the opportunity to visit it, also because it often happens that many promotional activities are carried out in the cities themselves, not only within an office or a studio, or a hotel, so in that case, we have an opportunity to see. In Japan we have seen a lot because we were lucky enough last year to be the first artists after the renovation of this very famous temple, a UNESCO heritage site, Kiyomizu-dera. We are the only artists who have given a concert there, they chose us as the inauguration of the temple and it is a magical place there, very exclusive….

Oh Daniela – I am SOOOO happy on your behalf that you had these fantastic experiences. If anyone deserved to get admission to Radio Italia it was definitely you <3 And what a top notch intimate concert that did turn out to be! They seem so happy and relaxed in the video clips and no doubt it was a very special day for them too finally to perform the new songs live. Bet they has "butterflies" in the tummies before going on stage awaiting the response by the audience. But it seems that everyone loved the new songs and that the atmosphere was full of love and happiness. And what fantastic footage you have been able to take – being sooooo close to the guys. I'm really happy on your behalf.
As to "Ad Astra" I am this very minute awaiting to receive my signed copy from Amazon.it any time – but I have, of course already listened to it on YouTube. I am reluctant on expressing my detailed personal thoughts on the songs yet – I need to hear them more times and get hold of the lyrics in English to have them make sense to me. Right now they don't really strike a cord with me, I am sorry to say – apart from "Capolavoro" and "Who wants to live forever". But sometimes it does take me a while to get fond of new songs. All I can say is, that it wasn't really what I expected. They are very different from what we are used to – rather "cosmic" and "out in space" – and I have difficulties in even recognizing their individual voices. It's a totally new sound language to me – not immediately saying Il Volo. But let's see in a couple of weeks when I have had the opportunity to hear them a lot more.

I am also waiting for signed copy of the CD to arrive! I can’t wait! 😃 They are certainly different songs from what they have sung in the past but these are all their own original ones that express their personalities. So far I like what I hear! 🥰
Kirsten, I’m so happy I went to Radio Italia, and so is Beppe. The concert was fantastic. I had already participated in a similar event over 4 years ago and I knew it was an event I didn’t want to miss, but I didn’t want to go alone and Beppe accommodated me. Yes, the guys were very excited to let us hear the new songs and I have to tell you that at first glance I liked them immediately and the more I listen to them, the more I understand the great work they all did together. I’m absolutely not afraid of still not hearing the “old Volo” because they themselves have said so several times, but this new version I feel is not just “little songs”, but really much more. I also wanted to tell you that when asked about their personal playlist, Ignazio said that he always listens to Bohemian Rhapsody and therefore I sincerely hope that they will do a cover as well done as the one in Sanremo. Next time I’ll talk to you about signing CDs.

Do you know that you can do a Google search for the name of one of those songs with IL VOLO and the word lyrics behind it and even English behind it to see what they are saying. Like this: Succede Il VOLO lyrics English see if that works for you. There are lyrics to all kinds of songs on the Internet. I have noticed how on some of the English songs I look up when I can’t understand every word there can be more than one translation in the lyrics could very just slightly.

You’re welcome, Roz! 😊 I have only listened to bits and pieces of several of the songs and I have to say not every single one of them struck a cord with me at first listen. But I have done that with other songs even from other artists and if I listen to them more sometimes they do grow on you and sometimes not. I’ll have to listen closer to the orchestration and see what I think about that. I think the orchestra just adds so much to the emotion that it brings forth in all the songs they have sung in the past. Sometimes the music alone brings me to tears!
Roz, the album is certainly different from usual, but believe me it’s a beautiful work, of course it can’t please everyone, but I think our guys didn’t intend to make low-level or beautiful songs just because they were catchy, they certainly put a little aside their singing skills, but not to disperse them, we will hear them a lot in concerts and I assure you that there will be a lot to listen to, but their goal was to be heard even by people who never even wanted to hear them, because prevented by a singing genre that is now taken little into consideration here. I hope that they succeed in their aim and that many people come to listen to their beautiful voices and understand the abysmal difference between them and today’s young singers.
First of all, thanks to you and Pat for a wonderful.article. Daniela, as I read it I felt as if I was there with you and your husband. All of the up-close photos and music simply enhanced the experience. I am so happy for you that you were able to be there and to be a part of lL Volo history. You know, the 10 people who said they had never attended an Il Volo concert, I think they were there to understand if what they had seen and heard in Sanremo really had continuity. I hope they were happy and then they will spread the word…..
Just a quick comment to anyone who wants to download the videos to save on their laptops, computers, whatever. If you right click on the video while it is playing it will ask where you want to save it. I have a section devoted to videos, one for Il Volo! Normally I have to do it via yaas, which can be a little problematic at times. It is also possible to save individual frames. No prizes for guessing I have loads of Piero! 🙂

My dear Pat and Daniela, every post is better than the previous one. I can’t imagine how you get through all of the music, dialog and photos. It warms my heart to know that our guys are finally getting the respect they have deserved all of the years they have been together. I love the album and have decided Chiara Di Luna is my favorite so far. They seem thrilled by the reception the album has received in Italy. Wait til they tour in the USA next year! I only have one tiny little criticism and that is sometimes the orchestra overpowers their voices. In my opinion, but I can live with it. Bravo raggazzi Grazie mille. Daniela you deserved to be there, I am happy you could represent us.
I am also so glad Daniela can be there to bring us all her impressions of the guys’ performance. I want to hear the original recording on the CD before I can say anything about the orchestra. As I said earlier, the orchestra always enhances the guys when they sing….so much so sometimes that it brings tears to my eyes! I have listened to all the songs from this post and I must say that they are different. Some of them I liked immediately and a couple others not so much. I will have to listen more before I have a favorite.
RoseMarie, I am so happy with the nice appreciation and attention that our kids are receiving from people who didn’t even know who they were before, even though they are Italian and successful. They are finally realizing their skill. At Radio Italia, when I heard Chiaro di Luna I immediately thought it was wonderful, the rhythm is overwhelming and their voices are as always wonderful, several of my friends told me that they would have preferred if they had presented this at Sanremo.
Thanks Pat and Daniela for these words from our guys. Did anyone else have a problem listening to the music on the videos??? Mine kept cutting out after a short while, then back again, then out. It got so frustrating that I just didn’t stay with any one video . As far as getting the CD of Ad Astra, mine won’t be available until some time late in May. Should have ordered it from Italy instead of Amazon on this side of the ocean. ☹☹

Daniela, you lucky! I’m so glad u were able to see this concert live and had a nice time. Thank you to Pat and to you for this article. The translation is wonderful and I enjoyed the video very much. Your photos turned out so well and they are handsome as ever. I know they had to have their “high fashion” looks for San Remo and all but I really like them in these casual looks. They even seem more comfortable! I love Gianluca’s “transformation” in the past couple of years. And he always has a beautiful voice and great singing but he seems to have become even better. As for the album I really didn’t know what to expect but I like the aesthetic very much. I am not an expert so I don’t know the right words, but I feel the look matches the sound and music of this album. I listen to it on spotify and as the song plays the screen shows little clips of them, it really adds to the song! I agree with what some of the others said about the orchestration, it also seemed a bit too “big” to me too, like every song is from a big movie soundtrack or something. But I wasn’t sure what their harmony would be like with pop music and turns out they sound just as great. AND many performers sound great on recordings but live is a different story. Technology may have been used on the album to enhance the overall sound but hearing this live recording their talent cannot be denied – their singing is incredible! Live is as perfect as recording – maybe even better!

Yes Amy, being present at Radio Italia was a great fortune, I’m still savoring the evening.
I too love how they were dressed, casual, but always beautiful, some of the excesses of Sanremo and also in the Capolavoro video, I don’t appreciate them much, but I understand that they wanted to “surprise” and remove that rumor of “old people” that follows them all the way from start.
I admit that the orchestration of this album is really great, but this is what makes the diversity, because we know their voices are unique, but today’s songs are poor in orchestral motifs and are also very repetitive, here there is a great orchestral work, not easy, also excellent for being the “soundtrack” of films or ballets, but also perfect for their concerts, I bet that this year they will have a notable prominence in the Arena!!

It’s the perfect mix of the IV we know with a modern vibe. Capolavoro is already a classic for me as well as Who wants to Live Forever. But Opera is amazing as well as Frammenti di Universo & Succede .. can’t stop listening .. and my niece said Ad Astra is currently #1 in CD & vinyl sales in Italy & Capolavoro already went gold .. so happy for their success .. love to everyone ♥️

“wow” Great article, how wonderful it was that you could be there. The first time I listened to a few songs on Facebook, I thought I really not fussy, couldn’t tell which one was singing, never had that problem before, and also found the music a little overwhelming. But then I saw them sing some of the songs live and there was such a difference seeing and hearing it live. I have listened to the album four times now and completely in love with it. Was really happy for them when I saw how quick it turned to gold in Italy, that had to make them feel so proud. Hopefully we will get to see the three nights at Verona on you tube. Looking forward to seeing the concerts in China and Japan. Thanks again for the tremendous amount of work you guys do.

Beverly, I admit that hearing them sing live is something else entirely. When I went to Radio Italia, I knew nothing about the songs and it was a nice surprise to hear them directly from their beautiful voices, they have a completely different flavour. However, the three evenings in Verona will be broadcast on television, and we must expect many surprises.
Il Volo’s music prompted me to begin studying Italian in 2011. Since I was already fluent in Spanish it wasn’t too difficult learn the language. Plus I was very motivated to understand the lyrics to their songs. I’ve learned a lot over the years so I especially enjoy listening to interviews in Italian. However, I read your English translations to pick up what I didn’t fully understand. Thank you for your monumental efforts in doing these lengthy translations. They are so helpful.
I’ve been listening to Ad Astra on my phone; but it was thrilling to watch a live performance. You can tell how moved the “ragazzi” were to be actually performing these new original songs. (They said so, as well) Looking forward to their next US tour which will likely be in 2025.
Good for you, Emmy for learning Italian! I am still trying to learn it. I understand words in the interviews and can get the gist of what they are saying, but Daniela’s translations do help fill in the gaps. I find that the verbs are the hardest to hear and understand because of all the different tenses……..as in any language. I studied French in high school and still remember a lot of it so Italian, Spanish and Latin are not that different to me. I really enjoyed seeing that guys perform their new songs live! 🥰👏🏻

Daniela how nice that you and Beppe could be there for this Radio Italia event where they first sang their new songs in public. They seem very proud of this new album and I understand that It has already achieved gold status in Italy. A great achievement for them. They work so hard to make and promote the album. This was a long event and lots to translate. Not sure how you do this, but it is so much appreciated. I especially love the 2 side events that you talked about that did not get into the tv edition. Thank both you and Pat for all this great information. They always reveal a little more about themselves in each interview. Looking forward to 2 concerts in Verona!!

I’m happy that you liked the two episodes that I told you about outside of the official video, being there I had to tell you what you wouldn’t have seen, however it was really wonderful to be there.
As for the translations, I listen sentence by sentence and transcribe them into the translator to then check everything again to understand if the meaning of the automatic translator is correct. And then there’s Pat who helps me by double-checking everything, because something that may have meaning for us Italians may not be understood that way for you. It’s a long job, but, given the comments, it works!

Hi Sonia, it’s actually one of the interviews I still have to do, except that the guys have done a thousand things in this period and I haven’t been able to translate it yet. However, I think I will have more time to do it now.

I discovered just recently the site “ involoflightcrew”, and most of all your amazing involvement bringing to us all stories about Il Volo incredible guys.
I fall in love with my husband 54 years ago listening to SanREMO FESTIVAL SONGS (they were not available easily in Quebec) Sergio Endrigo, Celentano, Toto Cotuno, just to name few.
I just recently discovered many of the songs of those past years that sounded thousand time better when Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero are singing them: my days start with one hour joy listening to a medley by Il Volo, every day is brighter and better with their incredible voices.
But your translation of their 15 years lives is for me something special and incredible: you are amazing person dedicating so much time to see their past, present and future! And you are so lucky to speak English, French and obviously Italian. I speak 5 languages, French and English for sure in Canada, but Italian was my dream to fulfill: I started already! I worked in Milan for couple of months (stayed at San Donato Milanese) and visited Verona (unfortunately empty Arena) and my hope is to be able to see Il Volo live there in the next years. That was our dream with my husband, who unfortunately passed away in 2021. But he will be with me when I visit Arena di Verona.
I saw so many Il Volo concerts on YouTube (more than ones I have to admit), have their CDs (including the last one Masterpiece Ad Astra, amazing demonstration of mature voices and artists), and cannot get tired to listen to them continuously.
My hope is that you will continue translating so much for us, the neophyte who don’t speak that musical language). Your translations allow to see the amazing human beings behind the voices of Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero. Incredible, just incredible and so humble!
