Warm Italian Memories

Are we all proud Italians?  A smidgen of ancestry will work or just a wannabe is good enough. Is that desire because of our Guys?  I think so.

On January 3rd Jane posted some Italian fluff. I don’t know if everyone saw it or Laura’s comment…

“Love their acappella and Piero’s laugh. Thanks very much for those fun videos. I suddenly got a little ‘misty’ hearing Ignazio speaking at one point, He said something that sounded just like my paternal grandfather when he’d say something in his native language. (Southern Italian (Campania region). (Paternal grandmother – northern Italian (Piedmont region). Don’t know if I mis-spelled the names of those areas. 🙂 They each always spoke in English, but on occasion, if translating something into Italian for us, Grandpa would often correct Grandma’s Italian translation. It often would escalate into an argument between them which was funny. It was a case of dialect differences apparently, so she really wasn’t ‘wrong’! Poor Grandma. 😂 “Barone” happens to be a family name on her side, though not her own last name before she (Laura Marie) married him (Enrico). I’m sure they would love Il Volo! Concerning ancestral DNA searches, I think it’s fascinating, but. personally, feel leery of doing that online, for a couple of reasons. Marie, I do think it’s very cool, though, that your sisters gave you your DNA results for your birthday present. ( It would, indeed, be awesome if you’re related to Daniela’s Beppe).😊 I think if we go back far enough, we all probably do share common ancestors and so we are all related, lol…🌲💕”

I’m sure we are all related too, Laura.  What warm Italian memories!  Anyone want to share one?  I’ll add mine later in the comments.

Throwback Thursday! – They are coming back! Aren’t they? (orig post April 2015)

Hello Everyone!  Thought I’d do a way throwback Thursday today.   Although the theme of this post was “Il Volo Day” – April 25, I thought it a bit fitting with the title.  We, again, are all anxiously awaiting their return, especially to the  United States.  It’s hard to believe how much has happened in these last 2.5 years or so, since I wrote this post.  Most of you know, my heart was filled – again, and again, and again!  I was looking back at past posts I’d done, reading through a few of them, and thinking “I wrote that?” lol!  They were pretty good.  🙂  I wrote with such excitement and wonderment.  Lately, I admit, that my time has been spent and devoted elsewhere.  To a busy and time-consuming job – both mentally and emotionally draining at times, to where I come home and just literally crash – at times where sleep overcomes eating.  As some of you know, I will be getting a new boss soon.  My current boss was promoted to director of our organization, but alas, I get to work for the new person, once named.  I told my current boss, whoever it is, must understand my passion for the guys!  And that I could announce a quick weekend departure at any given moment!  I have the final meet/greet photo of me and the guys as my wallpaper on my monitor.  You would not believe how many people come up to me and ask me if they are my kids – “oh, how I wish” I often respond!  So, sit back and relax a little, as you read below.  Think how lucky many of us are to have had our hearts filled again, and again by those 3 adorably cute guys!  For those of you that are still waiting, our wish for you, is that it may one day be fulfilled – maybe in 2018.  If not, we will wait, although never patiently, for concert tours and appearances in 2019.  Until then, we will have to cope with their Instagram, Twitter, short video clips, news, info, etc. – all from afar.  Gian – keep those selfies coming!  However, just wish we could have some kind of warning, so when we are sitting at our desks, or in a public place and our phone dings of a tweet or Instagram, we don’t have a mild heart attack when we look at our phones!  🙂  Or those sudden hot flashes that come out of nowhere!  Ciao!  Enjoy!

p.s.   technically, I’ve really yet to fill that frame, as I have so many awesome pictures now, it’s hard to choose just one!  And I always loved how Marie staged this post – so incredible – I hope everyone understood the meaning…

Ciao tutti!

I just wanted to take a little break from the Italian lessons to take some time to reflect on today – IlVolover’s Day!  Yes, just six short years ago, they met and sang O Sole Mio and truly the rest, as they say, is history!  I’m sure that six years ago, the guys could never have dreamed back then, of what they have achieved already in a relatively short time?  Imagine if they would have said no to the American contract?  How empty our lives would be right now and we would have never met each other, or the rest of the other ilvolovely fans around the world?

I take them with me each day on my walks.  I’m up to about 2.5 miles now and they are truly my inspiration that keeps me going for the almost one hour trek.  There are days when I come home from work and am pretty exhausted after a long day, but I know they are there waiting for me and the feeling I get when I put them in my ears is invigorating!

They fill my heart and soul with their voices and reminds me that there is still hope for the world.  The theme for Eurovision is Building Bridges and I can’t think of another artist that truly just lives that theme every time they sing and share their joy with the rest of us.  They should win just by their living example alone!  Oh yeah, and they sing pretty good, too!  Lol!

Jana 2015-04-25 13.53.30

Yes, they fill my heart, however, I made this special picture frame with their name on it and, unfortunately, it will remain empty until I can fill it with me and the guys!  I made this frame last fall with a group of close friends.  One asked what picture I was going to put in it.  “I don’t have it yet…,” I replied.

Springtime in Michigan is very special, as well as for other states that have to battle the ice, cold, and snow of harsh winters.  The smell of spring was in the air today as I went for my walk.  The sight of tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and hyacinths, greeted my eyes and nose with a wonderful hope that it was going to get warmer and warmer each day and the blossoms on the trees lent promises of leaves that were to be there soon!

With that same promise of warmth and spring, we must keep that eternal flame of hope that they will be back to visit us this year!!  I keep remembering the anonymous Ilvolover that rewrote the song of Il Volo is Coming to Town and the ending words of “can’t wait to see their smiles, can’t wait to feel their touch!”  You could say that those who have not seen them in person don’t know what they are missing and you would think, no, that is not true, they DO know what they are missing!  But for those of us that HAVE seen them in person – we KNOW what we are missing (and why our hearts ache) and as much as you say you think you know,  you really don’t… With that first note they sing, just like Gianluca as Spiderman, they spin their web and envelope you with their magic net that keeps you hypnotically stunned until their final notes are sung!  (will we ever run out of adjectives, similes, or metaphors to describe them?)

Jana 2015-04-25 13.53.30

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, but not sure our hearts could grow any fonder of the guys if we tried?  However, if they don’t come back until next year, our hearts are pretty much going to explode until we can see them again!  Let’s also hope that all of us Ilvolovers are still of this earth and don’t become Ivoloangels watching from above!

In the song, “American Pie” by Don McLean, he says it was “the day the music died…” – a remembrance of that fatal crash on Feb 3, 1959… that killed Buddy HollyRitchie Valens and  J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. How ironic is it that 50 years, 2 months, and 22 days later, the music was once again “reborn” with the 3 voices of Il Volo on April 25, 2009?

So, my friends, my heart and soul are filled daily with their most precious gift, but the frame around my heart will remain forever empty until I can fill it with a picture of me and the guys!

So, guys, if you are reading this, in the words of the lyrics sung by your own countrywoman, Sophia Loren…from the song “Bing! Bang! Bong!” (and movie Houseboat) please hurry back “presto, presto, do your very besto!”  Grazie, grazie!

Ciao, for now…

‘Twas The Night…

Well…Here it is again folks (Thanks for asking Jana).

Buon Natale Everyone!

***

I have a need to post this poem I adapted (mangled) in 2013.  It’s my favorite for obvious reasons.   Yes…I plan to post it every year.  So, for the fourth fifth time…

twas-the-night

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the villa,
not a creature was stirring, not even Godzilla (couldn’t think of another rhyme)

When, what to my wondering eyes should I hear, (I take liberties)
but a song and three Boys, not tiny, but Dear! (lots of liberties)

I saw Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio too,
up to my rooftop, to my living room they flew!

They were dressed all in Armani, from their head to their foot,
but their clothes were all tarnished, with ashes and soot.

A bundle of love they had in their pack,
and they looked just like heaven, when I calmly stared back!

His eyes how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! (that really is a line!)
Piero’s glasses were there, the color of cherry! (that one’s not)

Gian said not a word but went straight to his work
and filled all my dreams with songs and a perk!

He’d left me Ignazio all covered with bows
and giving a nod up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his Fiat, to Piero gave a whistle,
and away they both flew, like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim as they drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, I hope Marie doesn’t bite!”

$6.86/second…Is It Worth It?

Hello all…. I’m going to cheat a little bit here (but I still have to pack, as I’m leaving for an exciting weekend with hot and sandy beaches – already getting chilly here in MI!) and repost this one I wrote last year, just about a year ago now.  It seemed to be a well-loved post, so I hope you enjoy it again.  I know there are some newbies out there that have not seen this!

Just an update… I still have this addiction and my pusher skills are still going strong, just recently I converted another admin at work.  It started out she was having a stressful day, trying to schedule some meetings.  I viciously sent her Gianluca’s version of Bridge Over Troubled Water from the first LA appearance.  I waited and waited, knowing she was busy.  I wondered… did she like it?  did she think I was crazy?  I started out with something in English and well-known.  I figured she’d at least like the song.  Ok, sent an email back “thanks, she said, that was wonderful!”  Oh whew!  So glad.  She’s a director’s admin!  lol!  🙂  Another week or two pass….another stressful day.  But finally, it was almost over.  I told her she need an Il Volo break.  I sent her the “new” Ave Maria and told her that even if she did not know the song or words, the melody was hauntingly beautiful.  I waited some more…. YES!  She loved that one as well…  Ok, time to really reel her in!  I pretty much had her hook, line, and sinker!  I think I sent her Nessun Dorma as well and then told her a “little bit” more about me and the guys.  Then I sent her this article!  Days passed… I knew she was busy.  Finally!  The email was returned.  She loved this article!  And she says… yeah, they aren’t too bad to look at, either!  lol!  Yes, folks… there are more fans to conquer.  You never know when some poor, unsuspecting person will just fall into your evil web of deception with those 3 innocent-looking faces!  I challenge all of you to make a new fan this week!

Hi, my name is Jana, and I’m an Ivolover. My obsession started about 3 years ago or so, and like many obsessions, it started out slow. But along the way, I had to find a friend or two to help feed my obsession and help it grow. It started with just watching them on PBS, with a 1 me 2concert or two. Then, I went to the concert. After that one concert, it became apparent that this obsession turned into an addiction! I just had to have them – their faces, their music, their voices, the sound, it filled my soul like no other euphoric thing I’d ever experienced! I became a fanatic, ordering every CD I could find and scouring You Tube each night for a video or interview, so I could experience this amazing phenomenon. I got my fill most nights, but I just had to have more. I started listening to them all day at work, playing the same CD over and over. The bad thing was, I became a pusher! Yes, every time someone came to my desk and asked what I was listening to, I couldn’t wait to start pushing my addiction on to them. And it was so easy, too. Just showed them the CD cover and told them how awesome they were. Then I brought in the DVDs for them to watch. I was so bad…. Pushing my addiction on others like that. When we thought we couldn’t possibly get more of them, it becomes our ring tones on our cell phones, and their pictures are our wallpapers on our phones and computers, and to really annoy those that aren’t our fellow Ilvolovers, we have their songs on our ringback tones on our phones! There we were, 3 ignaexposing innocent persons to just a snippet of their voices, every time they called us! I just had to stop, but I couldn’t. Then, I found what I thought was a support group. We met and shared our stories about our addiction, and they were all so similar. Kindred spirits! I’d also found this blog site, where I found more addicted and obsessed persons! This obsession was rampant, and I quickly found it was spreading like wildfire all around the world. The scary thing was that no one tried to stop it! We just kept adding more people to our group. Like all addictions, it was getting a bit expensive, too! We just had to have their latest CD or DVD and we had to have it now. We could not wait and thought nothing of paying expedited shipping costs, just so we could have it first! We went to concerts and fought to get front row seats. We did not care what they cost, it was “the guys!” Then there were the meet & greets. Were we afraid of overdosing? No, never! We knew our friends were there to help us. The cost of the meet & greets and concerts? Hundreds…to some, maybe even thousands! It didn’t matter. We were there. Even when we’d thought 3 gianwe’d had enough, we just kept needing more to feed this habit of ours. We kept pushing others, so they would share in our glorious addiction; this untold high we got when we heard our favorite guy sing “that” note! It was pure ecstasy for those precious seconds! The cost of those meet & greets become a distant past when you see their faces up close and personal.  Oh, and it doesn’t stop there….all of a sudden, we find out there is a concert in Italy!  The next thing we know we are buying a ticket to Florence or Verona and then we are afraid.  Afraid to tell our loved ones we are going to see the guys, yet again  – that part is not so bad, but we are afraid to tell them it’s in Italy (because we are sure they will be calling the men in the little white coats!)!  What a joy it will be to hear them in their own country.  We’ve yet to experience the joy and beauty of our own country, but don’t think twice about jetting off to Italy!  They don’t know it, but for those 30 seconds or less when you are looking into those innocent and talented eyes, they are yours! They belong to you. When you hold their hands, the power of your touch, matches 3 pierotheirs and it’s electric. The fire courses through your veins, their eyes penetrate yours and you are lost in those few seconds; you get dizzy, and lightheaded. You cannot speak; your legs feel like fettuccine, and your feet like cement blocks. You are rudely brought back to reality when they say to turn around and smile, and snap! You turn around one last time. You look at them and the moment is gone.

Many say, after one, or even two meet & greets, and the money it cost; that’s it, no more, won’t do it again. Won’t spend all that money on a ticket, or to get first, their latest CD…they are done. They are calling it quits. They try to be strong, but peer pressure is overwhelming. The date of their next concert is drawing near. Ok, you decide, you will go – just to keep your friends company. Well, maybe you’ll try to get good seats, but definitely no meet & greet. The time is getting closer and closer…you start to feel it again, as hard as you try to push it way, it overtakes your very being again. All of a sudden, you realize, your addiction is back. It’s this craving, this thing, it’s just so overpowering; you can’t stop it. You buy the ticket, you check your bank account, it’s nearly overdrawn, you buy the meet & greet!

No, no, you said you wouldn’t get caught up in this thing again. It’s not worth all the money, and the waiting, and anticipation. It’s too much stress! But, like the words in Unchained Melody, it’s a hunger; a hungering, for their touch. A need, only they can fill.

So, is it worth it you ask?

3 guys pbs

There they are, standing before you, looking at you with those innocent, sparkling, and playful eyes;

your hand reaches forth…1 hand
