We know from past experience that Il Volo has always been very well received everywhere they go in Mexico and South America, and that they seem to pick up a little bit of a different energy themselves.  This year has not been any exception.  Based on tweets and shared pictures, they have been excited about going to Mexico from the jump.  They were greeted warmly at the airport before heading to their hotel in Juarez where they did a lot of relaxing, and it seems like they’ve been mixing it up informally with the fans as well.

But there has been a lot of working too, of course, giving the interview from which the above clip was taken and this press conference included:

TRANSLATION (by Athina Angelopoulos): The 10th edition of the International Chihuahua Festival starts today with the opening show by the Italian trio Il Volo whose tenor voices will vibrate the esplanade of the Cultural Center Paso del Norte.

At exactly 8 pm Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, the group members, will interpret their ballads including Italian classics and pop songs in Spanish, English, and Mexican themes.

With free mass events, the activity of the festival will last until 21 August with a series of concerts and theatrical presentations which this year include singers and groups of international stature, as Óscar Chávez, Lila Downs, Millions, Candlebox, and Yuri Buenaventura and the Mexican band Zoé, which will close the stage of the massive events on August 12.

Like every year, the evets will take place at the esplanade of the Cultural Center Paso del Norte, as well as in the theater Victor Hugo Rascon Banda, but also have been prepared some alternate venues as the Auditorium Benito Juarez and some settlements in the west and southeast parts of the city.

TRANSLATION (by Athina Angelopoulos): The time has come. The 10th edition of the International Chihuahua Festival begins tomorrow night with the presentation of the group Il Volo, for the first time in Juarez.

The trio of the Italian singers is in Ciudad Juárez, and with a relaxed and informal attitude, they posed for pictures, sang and flirted in perfect Spanish.

During a press conference that lasted about 17 minutes, Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble declared that they had been sleeping since they arrived in the city on Wednesday night and all they know of Ciudad Juarez so far, is the way from El Paso airport to the hotel where they are staying.

The trio expressed their excitement to return to Aztec lands after a year when they performed at the National Auditorium in Mexico City in front of 10 thousand people.

When asked the name of a favorite Mexican song, without hesitation, Ignazio Boschetto started singing ‘Bésame Mucho’ (by Consuelito Velázquez).

“Mexico has been a great country for us, every time we come back is a pleasure and now is an honor for us to sing in the Festival of Chihuahua, here in Juarez.”

😀     No, it wasn’t a personal phone call.  It seems like the phone belonged to a member of the press, and I’m told by Athina that Piero actually answered the phone, but Ignazio is the one that spoke to the caller.  Lucky caller!

  1. I just loved this one. Our admiration for Il Volo was freely given but in a respectful way that does not encourage the crazy ones to try and report on even more outrageous behavior. Would have loved to have been with you in Chihuahua (have been there!) Thank you.

    1. While we respect your preference for a more subdued admiration for our guys, our only rule here at Share the Love is that we respect each other–regardless of if we agree. We feel that your comment about “not encourage[ing] the crazy ones to try and report on even more outrageous behavior” is not respectful to our other readers; in fact we find it very unkind.

We have tried to allow a bit of latitude for your opinion as well, but we must respectfully ask that you no longer post comments of this nature on the website or they will be deleted.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in our quest to provide a respectful, loving environment at Share the Love.

      1. I agree. Mexico fans are in love with the boys just as we all are. They show their emotions outwardly, they may be somewhat younger, but are excited, just as we all have been, when we saw the boys at our USA concerts. I think the boys are energized when they see and hear all the enthusiasm for them. ☺♥

  2. Great recap Kelly! Our guys have always been received well in SA and this time is no difference. From all the photos we can see that they really enjoy this trip and the concerts. I think these are the largest concerts so far with more than 20,000 attendee each night. Congrats guys on another great performance – well done! Looking forward to more on Chihuahua Kelly.

Have a safe trip home later today guys. Remember we love you – Gianluca, Ignazio, Piero!

  3. Thanks for all the photos and videos, much appreciated. It looks like this concert in Juarez was a HUGE success for them. I hope all the audience went home and VOTED for IL Volo!

  4. I have observed their reactions to different audiences. When they are here in the US their audience is older and they show respect and affection. In Mexico and Latin America the young ladies and their adoration bring out “the boy” in our young men now. They seem to have so much fun.
Kelley your e-mails are fantastic and I envy your talent. At 78 I am computer challenged.
QUESTION? I do not speak Spanish but saw and article after Juarez that said “Two tenors and a showman”. Wonder if there is a translation.?

  5. Thanks Kelly–It is great how quickly you get all the news, photos and videos posted so we can all feel like we shared the concerts with the amazing, adoring and Very vocal fans in Mexico .
Our Guys are having the time of their lives and it’s extremely touching to watch the excitement and joy of the past few weeks light up their beautiful faces.
Now they can go home to relax and reflect on all their recent successes and prepare for their up and coming concerts in their beloved Italy .
Have a safe trip Gianluca,Ignazio and Piero XO

  6. Thank you, Kelly. This is wonderful. I admire your talent in putting something like this together! Yes, it does make us feel like we have been there with them. Love and blessings to Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio as you travel home. Your work ethic is to be commended as you are all young, but devoted to your passion…bringing your beautiful music to the world. You are all outstanding young men and deserve every bit of respect and admiration the world gives you!

  7. Thank you so much for this compilation. I haven’t had a chance to watch all of the videos yet, but from what I’ve seen it was a FABULOUS success! 20,000 the first night and 25,000 the second night! I read somewhere that this was an unexpected record-breaking attendance. SO happy for them that they are receiving the love and respect that they deserve for all of their sacrifices and hard work. I wish I could have been there!

(P.S. Captain Crider, I haven’t forgotten that chapter four of your excellent adventure is yet to come!)
