Ok, if you have a Kindle and/or a Smart phone with the Amazon Kindle app; here is what you can do….just fyi, if you dare:
After I ordered it from Amazon.com (US), I found it was $4.00 cheaper on Amazon.it – strange, I know? Yes, the site is all in Italian, but I’m sure you can figure it out and if you have a regular Amazon account, it’s your same ID/Password!
Link to Il Volo new book on amazon.it Hope it works. For me it comes up 7.99 euros, which is just about $8.80 or so. When you place your order, it should be delivered automatically. If, for some reason, it doesn’t work, you can always order from regular US Amazon site.
When you do get it, open it up. I will admit to not being a very techy person, so if I can figure this out, you can too! That being said, here is how you can translate it paragraph by paragraph. First, I just put my finger on a word, not really knowing what I was hoping for, but a box popped up to download the Italian dictionary – so, I did that. Ok, now what? Pick a word and hold it down with your finger. It will “highlight.” Then, if you are lucky, a few things will “scroll” like a banner at the bottom, or top. Scroll across and you will come to something that says “translate.” You will see your word defined in English!
Yes, there is a way to do more than one word. It does take some practice though – just do a few words at a time and work up to one paragraph. I would not do more than one paragraph at a time, but you can try. Yes, this will take you a while, but it will be worth it!
To do more than one word, you will see the little “margin blockers?” that enclose the word you have chosen, or held down with your finger. If you take your finger and gently “move” the one on the right, you will see more than one word or sentence get highlighted. You can also drag your finger down to do the whole paragraph. Also on mine, in the translation box, you may see a little “speaker” symbol. If you click on that, it will TALKto you!!
If none of this works for you, you may need to find someone from the younger generation to show you. I’m sure they will be happy to do it! 🙂
Here are just a few of the first sentences of the intro, that I grabbed from the Amazon site, translated from Google Translate….
“Pierowas sure to become a music teacher,Ignaziosang with passion but certainly not thought of success, Gianlucasang only for himself, because it made him feel good. In short, the music was in everyone’s future but none of them could have imagined that 25 April 2009, the fate would knock on the door and Il Volo was “born,” which in a few years has achieved international fame and the first places in the standings and in Italy in the world.”
I will tell you this – when I did the whole paragraph, then looked down into the little box with the translation, my heart literally skipped a little beat and it felt like I was opening this little treasure chest and they were speaking right to me as the words jumped off the page to my heart…
(my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5 – not sure if things might be different for different models of phones…might also be easier for those of you with a tablet, since they are much bigger than a smart phone!)

I love that plan Gina. I’m in. I am like all of you in regards to our boys. I think I have said it here before, that my day starts around 4-5 am. The night before, both iPads are charged for my morning ritual. Get my first cup of Java, my two recharged iPads, get back into my bed, ear pods connected to the first iPad and begin searching for news of our guys. I have two iPads ’cause after a few hours, the first one needs recharging but I have a spare waiting so I don’t have to wait. I go to my gmail for the “Flight CREW”. Then to ” Twitter”, “Tumbler” “Facebook” and last but not least, “You Tube”. I have a playlist of so many of ” IL VOLO’S ” songs and videos which keeps me entertained for hours. My family, well, they just smile and tolerate me when I start babbling about our wonderful guys. They do love their songs but they think I’m a FANATIC. Isn’t that what FAN means?. Silly people. They just don’t understand us. Never mind. My one world is filled with music by three beautiful Italians and the other world is my reality world. My children just tell me to enjoy the boys and have a great time. “You’ll see them soon enough in LAS VEGAS”.

Gina! Great idea! But why don’t we fund raise, buy one of those small, abandoned VILLAGES! We could restore it for Il Volo as a bolt hole! The more famous they get the more they will need a sanctuary from the craziness. Anonymity guaranteed! A tennis court for Piero. Beach access for Gianluca. And a place for Ignazio’s horses. Their family and friends could come to stay. And guess who would be running the operation?!! The Flight Crew, of course! What better way to spend time with The Guys! All to ourselves! A recording studio? All the amenities. They would never leave except to go on tour! What do you think, Crew?!! What a dream!!
Lynn, we’re waiting for you to find that village! ~M

On one trip to Italy, we went to my friend’s uncle’s home in a hilltop in Abruzzo. The roads were winding and as we went further up, we passed a beautiful wine store I called ‘The Secret of Vittorio” and we could see Switzerland from there! When we finally got there, the town was only about 3 blocks long and all the young people were moving to the city. As we sat and ate our dinner at the table, a song was playing on the radio called “La Prima Cosa Bella.” It was a beautiful song and one very old lady was sitting there crying. She had only left the town once to go to Rome. It was unforgetable. My friend’s uncle had greeting us wearing a suit! That year Italy was on strike and we had to hire a taxi to take us anywhere in the country. I don’t know if that town is still there.
Joaniefl2 commented on “Columbus Day Parade”
It just so happened that I was flying from Florida to NY to visit with my kids for the Columbus Day Weekend and low and behold I find out that Il Volo will be in the parade !! Was that luck or what !!! My kids were good sports and went with me even though I knew they would be bored to death. We met up with Madeline Vitella (we had not been together since our trip to Italy !! ) and her daughter and we all sat in the 3rd row in the Grandstand at 68th Street. The boys performed between 68th and 69th Streets. Madeline had gotten there early and was able to see the boys do their sound checks which was very exciting for her !! We got there about 11:15. In a very short time the guys who were leading off the parade right behind the motorcycles and mounted police were approaching us and we were ready for them !! Madeline had an Il Volo shirt on ( mine unfortunately was at home !!) and we held up an Il Volo scarf that she had gotten at a M&G !!! We were holding up the scarf and yelling GIANLUCA on the top of our lungs !!! He looked up from his phone and a big smile lite up his gorgeous face !!! He recognized us and pointed, waved and blew kisses to us and even as they were passing us by he kept looking behind him and continued to blow kisses our way !!! Absolutely Adorable !!! Piero also saw us and gave us a big smile and a wave !! Unfortunately Ignazio was looking in another direction. We could see them on the stage but we couldn’t hear them sing very well as there’s was lots of noise and music from the parade. Delilah was a little bit louder then Grande Amore but we had to leave before Volare which I heard was the loudest. All in all it was a fantastic day and very exciting to be able to eyeball our precious ones and a thrill that Gianluca recognized and acknowledged us !! There are photos we took on FB or our timelines (mine is Joan Brenin). I don’t know how to post them here !!! I’m sorry that this post got so wordy but I really wanted to share our special day with my Flight Crew family 💕💕
Thanks for sharing this Joanie! ~M

Hello Crew!.. I commented once before but I am not sure what happened, I think the comment got lost somewhere ..haha
Anyways, I stumbled upon this site and I LOVE it!
I am 22 years old. I find it really hard to relate to people my age around here where I live..because they listen to other types of music and most of them don’t know who Il Volo is. :((
Anyways, just wanted to pass by and leave a comment!
Welcome Lauren! ~M

Lynn, I’m not going to Vegas either….so we are in the same rotten stinky boat. We won’t be there to meet all our fellow Flight Crew folks nor will we be able to stop Marie from doing something sneaky like kidnapping Mr.Dimples. But ….we can valiantly share our pain together you and I and a bottle of rum.
Many of us saw this one. It’s worth re-reading. So I’ll end with it. ~M
An answer to “OF BABIES AND FATHERS…….Mary Bohling”
Jim October 13, 2015 at 4:56 pm
MARY!!!
A very poignant perspective you have prepared and presented. OK, enough ‘P’ words for the moment. I shared once before in a thread on this site, that the great love and affection these young men openly demonstrate for each other is a beautiful testament to their families of origin. They were brought up to embrace their emotional core and to not be ashamed to express it at will, in whatever circumstance or environment that develops. Not that this type of behavior can be completely learned, it has to also be endogenous to the individual. Nature and Nurture, if you will. They’ve got some mighty good “genes”, too.
My preamble was to make this observation about “the boys” as it pertains to your article, Mary. Family and Fatherhood,…for The Flight,….in the Future, lol. Let’em be young musical pioneers first, before becoming young musical parents!!! No doubt these young men impress us with their skill sets around babies, kids, young people, mature people, fans, the media, bus-drivers, and everyone else that happens upon them. Have we ever witnessed them not being genteel, kind, and thoughtful of those around them,……?
My point is this Mary, wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall in that delivery room waiting area when one of these three young men is about to become a father??? Don’t you know for everyone else there in that waiting area who is not part of the Barone, Boschetto, and Ginoble families,…it will be hard to determine just which of the three guys standing there is actually the “daddy-to-be”!!! These boys are so close to one another, and frankly always will be, that the excitement and joy of pending parenthood will be unequivocally shared by all three no matter which one is the actual “father-in-waiting”.
All three of them will attend the births of each others children, will be part of each others weddings, will vie with each other for Godfather status, lol, and will be the best Uncles each others kids could ever want. Il Volo are not just three young men that perform together, they are family in every sense of what that word implies. In all of life’s great events they will be there in heart, body and faith,…one for another. These boys are bound together by a love for each other that I’ve never witnessed before in the entertainment industry. You can see it in their eyes when they look at one another, and you can feel it in your soul when they embrace each other as brothers on and off the stage. I love these boys for being authentic and genuine.
I have been taught to cherish and honor my friends differently since Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero came into my heart.
Everyone knows that whenever I write about our young men, it is always with an immense amount of love, pride, amazement, and downright admiration for how they have always conducted themselves with utmost courtesy, conscientiousness, professionalism, and manners. Of course, I certainly cannot leave out an acknowledgment of their beautiful voices, and yes, handsome looks to boot! When it came to creating these three, they were surely given HIS best. Beyond that though, they also display what I see as a love for life; life in it’s entirety.
The beauty in life is all around us, scenes of obvious beauty, even ones having a little more mysterious nature; but another expression of beauty can come from our hearts. I’m referring to life’s capacity to express love, to feel love, and to offer it as well. To extend to and receive kindness and caring. It’s also our drawing together in families, and the bonding with one another. It’s the respecting of nature, of all description. It’s the things that we see with our eyes, feel with our hearts, and know in our souls; and it’s even our willingness to accept the things we are not able to understand or explain. It’s our awareness of provision, and the whispers of instinct, as it applies to every living thing; man, animal, flora, fauna, etc. Everything is designed to work together, one with the other, within this magnificently created wonder we call our world.
Il Volo, often displays heartfelt awareness of what life asks of us in return; for in their travels they have seen first hand, wonderful examples of service available as needs may arise, sometimes maned in part by those with only meager means or abilities themselves. Sadly, it has become more and more apparent that not all of humankind shares the same feelings of awesomeness, (if that’s a word), towards the gifts, and sensibilities we’ve been given. I don’t know how to respond to that, other than to say “I’m sorry that you’re missing it all”. Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero have also, the pleasure of seeing many beautiful sites that most of us may never see, or even know of their existence; so, they take us with them via the various Internet avenues available to us today. Still, they never abandon the love they hold for their own country, and are quick to make that known.
In thinking about all of these things, I’ve decided to use my “KITTY’S KIBBLES”postings to honor the guys a little more, and feature various facts, fables, destinations and more, related to Italy and/or Sicilia. I’ve learned so much in the last little while doing research, and I remember an Ilvolover saying that she never cared about geography until Il Volo; but now she can’t get enough of either one! Well, I would say she’s in the right place! I’ll also begin to include select images of kindness and love, just to keep those things fresh in our minds, as they too, are a major part of the beauty that lies, or is intended to lie, within us. When I see examples of this, I can’t help feeling compassion, but a sense of pride as well.
Emotions and kind behaviors are shared by other beings of nature as well as humans. We are not unique in that area. Think about that for a moment. If you’re like me, you may see similar behavior in other species, but only think,“ah, that’s so cute”. Frankly, I sometimes ask myself, who is mimicking who? Do we ever really ponder it, looking for that definitive answer? Sure we do, but does it matter? It’s amazing, that’s all I know. Lo and behold, (and some may disagree), but man is not the be all end all in this world. Gee! IMAGINE THAT!We are but a part of the whole; a part of “life”, in it’s entirety. (only my opinion!)
I wanted to share the photo below because it spoke volumes to me. Truth be known, it was the catalyst for my wanting to express my appreciation to our guys for how they tend to bring to light all of life’s beauty and complexity. There is an absolute, and immense passion inside of them for music, but also for life. That passion is indeed noted, and is quickly transferred into the hearts of everyone around them. In subtle and undefinable ways, they, without any conscious effort on their part, bring about momentary pauses in us that are not always shown outwardly, but are felt inside. It’s when our soul begins to affirm what the “real” in life is all about. Even if that pause is no more than one tiny moment, in that moment, we catch a breath, and the spectacular elements at work here in this world, seem to always bring a smile to our lips.
The young men of Il Volo have brought new life, and a new meaning of life, into the hearts of so many; but despite how often we may try to convey that to Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero in words, it will be a long time before they will begin to fully understand. In the meantime, we can only try to express our “thanks”, by being ever mindful of life, all of life, in it’s entirety; and what better time to explore that, than in the renewing, sweet smelling, colorful season of an amazing Autumn.

ENJOY GIAN’S ABRUZZO
I think you can tell that Autumn is my favorite time of the year. To me it’s a time for a quieting of the soul, and the mind. It’s a time of coolness outside, and warmth inside; a warmth that invites cozy covers, hot tea, a fire’s glow, or getting lost in a favorite hobby. We spend time with family, and friends, and oh, don’t forget about all those wonderful…. afternoon naps! Remember that new book that’s been there waiting for you, now’s the time! For all of us though, we also have the added blessing of Il Volo in our lives, and the joy that they are bringing to us. They share so much; their music, their families, friends, country, their dreams, successes, and even their personal heartaches every once in a while. It’s got to be a hard life, but at the same time, a very rewarding one. Being able to bring this kind of joy is a gift, and not something just anyone is able to accomplish. We are not likely to forget. HAPPY AUTUMN GUYS, AND TO ALL OF YOU ALSO. Blessings always, Kitty
Halloween in Italy: zombies in the streets of Rome
Halloween in Italy: is it just an excuse for kids to spray shaving foam on strangers’ cars, and for adults to dress up and party, or is there more to it?
These days, many have the feeling thatHalloween has become more popular, especially among the younger generations, than Italy’s very own Carnevale, those two weeks right before Lent when Italians get crazy about dressing up and playing tricks on their friends. Sounds familiar? Yes, it does remind a lot of what Americans do on Halloween. Carnevalehas plenty in common with Halloween and not only because it’s a holiday with a penchant for tricks and costumes: there is some food only cooked this time of the year, too and, of course, the Carri di Carnevale, some of them (think of Venice and Viareggio) known all over the world.
In Italy, however, Halloween has been making amazing progress over the past few years. And according to research, the search term “Halloween” comes up more often on Italian online searches than “Carnevale”. Are Italians all becoming Halloween fanatics?
HALLOWEEN ITALY
Italy imported this festival from the USA through films, TV and pop culture. It all started as a way to entertain children with the famous trick-or-treat routine. Certainly, Carnevale is still superior, but tendencies are looking undoubtedly more and more in favor to Halloween. This is throwing some controversy into the laps of religious authorities in Italy. Halloween is starting to develop a superior influence over Italy’sAll Saints and All Souls Day, on November 1st and 2nd respectively, and many worry about the fact that it may turn what is supposed to be a time to remember our dead with love and cherish, into yet another occasion to party.
However, if we look at the true origins and the true meaning of Halloween, we’ll see that they’re not that different from what Italians celebrate on All Saints and All Souls Day. If, from a commercial point of view, Halloween is an All-American product, its spirit is rooted in antiquity and comes very much from Europe. Halloween, known by the Celts as Samhain, was originally nothing more than a day to remember and honor the souls of the dead. It’s been here since before Christ, witness to the wholly human necessity to remember and love those who are no longer physically with us. Celebrations of Halloween were popular in Ireland and Scotland and when people from these countries emigrated to the US in the 19th century, they brought this custom along. America then made of Halloween what we know today, whereas Europe remained attached to the more spiritually oriented celebrations of All Saints and All Souls Day.
(For more of the story http://www.lifeinitaly.com/culture/halloween.asp)
Halloween’s origins are, in fact, very Christian. Halloween falls on October 31 because of a Pope, and its observances are the result of medieval Catholic piety.
