Notte Magica – The Movie

I saw the Boys nearly 10 ft tall.
Braced myself…wasn’t scared at all.

You think Gian’s eyes are a mesmerizing green?
Just wait til you see them on the big screen!

They were large and dreamy like shiny jewels.
I wanted to dive into those lovely big pools.

They sang and they sang mouths 5 ft wide.
My greatest desire was to crawl inside.

My sister and her daughter came along.
They clapped and bravo-ed thru each song.

Ignazio’s chest so large and sublime.
My breathing stopped about that time.

His mustache was huge and what do you suppose?
I could see the freckle on the end of his nose.

His dimples well.. I could hardly look.
Were as deep as the ocean, my whole body shook!

Piero’s face so sweet and serene.
I wanted to hug that big flat screen.

Enormous were the size of the glasses
covering the eyes of a man loved by masses.

I knew the music, I’d seen it live on stage.
Now, my Il Volo book has another page.

The surround sound certainly did what it could.
Not the same as live, but still very good.

A movie critic I may not be,
But this is one you all should see!

I promise you I’ve told no lies.
I’d love those guys just any size!

~Marie

  1. Our poet laureate is back! Hi Marie. Where did you see them? Rosemarie Ringenbach and I saw them in Cleveland a couple of months ago. Only one thing better than seeing them live from the front row in Detroit was to see them larger than life on the big screen.

  2. Thank you Marie for your dreamy description of those gorgeous eyes and you must have been up close to see those freckles. We love your poetry and you have captured them perfectly. We loved seeing them on the big screen and Jay said yesterday – (when we were in the car) – that every time we turn on a CD, we hear something new in their voices. They have grown so much. I get to track number 7 on the Grande Amore CD and have to play it at least 3 times before I move on. I have to look up the name of that song. There is something special about that song. The orchestration and the use of their voices together just makes me want to play it again. We are so blessed to have so much to watch and listen to with YouTube and the CD’s. It’ll keep us going until we can get them to the States again or we get to Italy. Thank you for being the poet you are. It’s lovely.

    1. Thank you, Victoria. I do the same thing with song #4. Blows me away when he does that up and down the scale thing. Also…every time Piero sings the Tosca number I remember sitting in the audience when he first sang it and said he hoped we weren’t disappointed. Disappointed! Can you imagine?

      1. Marie I’m so glad I’m not the only one who ends up playing songs over and over again. Are you talking about Quando L’Amore? That’s my second favorite. Jay loves them too and I just keep clicking back and forth to my favorites. What they do with their voices in those songs is just special. I love L’Amore Si Muove. Jay thinks it’s like hearing them for the first time every time we get in the car. I miss seeing them and tried to get Jay to go to Mexico for their concert in Monterrey. We can’t work it out and I keep trying to rearrange our schedule. Plus Jay can’t lift my wheelchair right now. Needless to say, I am a bit bummed out,

  3. Thanks, Marie, you had me laughing and crying at the same time. I just hope that someday their movie will play within reaching distance from home! I’d love to be able to add that page to my Il Volo book of memories!

  4. Thank you, Marie, for relating what it was like to see the guys on the big screen. I don’t live close to one of the cities where the movie was playing so I was unable to attend. Your poem made me feel like I was right there listening to them!

    1. Oh, Pat. Truth is I wanted to run up to the screen and give it big, giant, sloppy kisses. My sister threatened to leave if I did. She actually made me sit on the inside. Probably a good thing.

      1. I felt like doing the same thing in March in Chicago at my first IL VOLO concert! It’s terrible to have to be an adult and restrain oneself! 🙂

      2. I know! Who’s an adult at those concerts? It’s better to go with someone who lightly lays their hand on your arm and says, “please don’t embarrass me”. I would never go to a concert alone. I would embarrass all of you! 🙄

      3. I would go with you any time, Marie! I wouldn’t be embarrassed! I surprised my daughter-in-law the first concert we went to…..I was yelling and whistling like crazy! She had never seen me like that before. Wish I would have discovered these guys before the Notte Magica tour as I would have loved to do some of that during the previous concerts! Seems like it hasn’t stopped everyone in Europe/Italy during this year! That’s why I will try very hard to go to Italy to see them on their next tour. The audience sings along and is quite animated. I could have sung to every song in Chicago but I didn’t feel I could because it was opera music and we were in the Chicago Opera House and it so quiet during the performance (but we all made plenty of noise while on our feet after each and every song!). I was mouthing the words of each song as they guys performed and must have been just barely whispering because I kept getting a sideways glance from a young man sitting next to me. LOL It didn’t stop me! I was in heaven!

  5. So happy to hear from you. I know even though you were “away” from the post your hear was always beating for “The dimple boy”. He should appreciate such unconditional love.

    1. Thanks, Gina. I certainly appreciate theirs for their fans. And, yep…can’t stay away from dimple boy and his two friends. My niece, who was the one at the show, calls him Uncle Dimples. She’s practicing for our next life together. Smart girl!

  6. I saw the movie as well – loved it! I had seen Notte Magica in Tampa in March. Couldn’t believe how lucky we were to have movie shown as our local theater. The theater was Sold Out and luckily I had gotten tickets about 2 weeks before the showing. They look fantastic on the big screen. Ciao

    1. They did look great! It’s pretty nice having the movie between live concerts. Didn’t feel satisfied though. Um, I guess I never feel quite satisfied.. Always, always want more.

  7. Glad your writing poetry again Marie. I haven’t been able to see them in their movie, haven’t been able to find out where their movie was, lucky people. Do you know if their movie is available to buy? If anyone knows its available please let me know. Hope your doing well Marie.

  8. So good to hear from you, Marie! With this wonderful poem you make us all feel as tho we were actually there! I moved to Utah to my daughter’s home at the end of April. My six kids did not want me to live alone anymore!! I was ready to live with someone as It is difficult to do so much that was a breeze 6 months ago I have to use my walker all the time. I will be 89 on the 28th & slowing down. I am now visiting my son & his wife in WA. I have not been anywhere close to the showing of the movie! Love our precious three & I am following all their summer activities!!! So glad they have this much relax time!!!

  9. Oh, Marie! TEN FEET TALL! I can’t ever think how that might feel! So glad you had this experience! It’s so good to hear from you! How big were those dimples, again? Don’t know if my heart could stand that! They aren’t going to show the movie anywhere near me..just as well…I suffer enough!! Lol take care! <3 <3 <3..

  10. Marie, It is really great to read your stuff again. I missed your dry sense of humor. It is nice they are doing the movie theater gig. I have been to some of the Metropolitan Opera viewings. Very nice. Of course, when it really comes down to it I am one who wants to see these “alive” guys LIVE.
It may seem silly but I like just watching how they use their breath support and control. Now I know that means sitting in the front two or three rows but when you do there is no movie in the world that can compete with those three guys live a feet away from you.
Great to have the poetry again.

  11. Marie!!! How great to hear from you, and with such a neat, snappy, touching poetic tribute!! I felt the same way when I saw the movie here a couple of months ago. You are so right about the impact of the size. I was glad t o see that someone said that their theater was sold out…..here in Minnesota it was not publicized and everyone I talked to said that attendance was very sparse….such a shame. If they ever send it around again I hope that someone gets on the ball with publicity.Keep your creative genes going–we can’t get enough of them.

  12. Oh Marie your poem and description of our guys’ movie is incredible. You perfectly described all three with their very special qualities. I keep reading it over and over and picturing what you describe. To see them larger then life so close up, heart be still! I live in Brooklyn and I hope and pray it will come to a theater here, and if not, I hope we will be able to purchase it. Thank you so much Marie; you are truly a Il Volo poet extraordinare!

  13. Marie, what a treat to hear from you again!
I love your poetry. Unfortunately the two theaters in my area did not show the Il Volo movie.I have to be content for now watching their DVD ‘s over and over again.

  14. Marie, Where did you see the movie, and do you know if it is schedueld for the West Coast?

      1. I am so disappointed. the nearest cinemas showing the film are in Ireland and there are no dates showing for England. Why are the boys avoiding England. We have had only one show last year and one this year. both in London and although I have travelled to both it would be lovely now to have a show in the north where we have many large theatres.. come on Il Volo management, get to grips and follow the fans. please…

  15. IT IS SO GOOD TO “HEAR” YOUR VOICE AGAIN. I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT A POET YOU ARE!!! DID YOU SAY THIS MOVIE IS ON DVD? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT, BUT I DID FEEL LIKE I SAW IT READING YOUR POST!! GREAT TO SEE YOU BACK AND, AS ALWAYS, APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR!!! YOU NEVER FAIL TO BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE AND, IN MANY INSTANCES, MAKE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD!!

    1. Good to “hear” from you too! What I meant was the movie is very much like the Notte Magica DVD. So, I’m guessing there won’t be a movie release. But…what do I know?

  16. Marie , Great poetry from a lovely lady. You are a film critic and a very good one at that. Your description our guys on the giant flat screen is 3 dimensional in so many ways and said so well, comments back to you show how much you a loved and respected. I hope and pray that our boys will be on the giant screen somewhere in the northeast real soon. It would be the most exciting, special night at the movies ever!

  17. Buonasera Marie : It is so nice to hear from you once again. Love your poem ! Notte Magica will be playing in Naples, Fl on November 14th at the Strada theater in the Mercato shopping area. I am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

  18. Glad you have you back Marie and the poem is great! I would love to see Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca on the big screen. Unfortunately except for Florida and one in upstate New York, the entire east coast is ignored. I think this is very strange since I feel the entire northeast probably has more Italian-Americans than most areas and I believe a lot of Ilvolovers.

  19. Well, welcome back Marie, welcome back Marie,
It’s so nice to have you back where you belong…
Your writing’s swell, Marie; Oh how we can tell, Marie…
You’re still flowin’, you’re still glowin’, you’re still swooning, strong!

The rest did you well…Marie, let’s shout and yell, Marie,
Oh she’s back, she’s back, she’s back, from who knows where?
So, here she is, crew, find her an empty seat, crew…
Marie please don’t go away for so long again!

Well, what more can I say? 🙂

    Have a great weekend, all!!

    Jana

    1. I’m not back…Jana.
      It was just one post…Jana.
Your doing swell all by your self with some great help……

Ha, ha, ha! Thanks for allowing me to post now and then. What fun this one was! What a great crew ! Thank you everyone.
      Buonanotte

  20. I am so disgusted. This is not our precious guys fault. Their team is not sending items or information to Canada & other nearby countries. Everything seems to be focused on the concerts & information going to the Latin countries. I have tried to get through to the Il Volo site to no avail. Don,t know what else to do to try & get them to answer emails. Can,t find phone number.

  21. Hi Marie! Love your poem, your sense of humor and your devotion to our guys. Great to hear from you again and I hope your posts keep appearing ! Your observations always make me smile . Cheers!

    1. Hello, Cynthia, Don’t know if you’ll see this, but i was wondering if you were on board ‘the flight’ yet with the Crew about a year ago? I think so …. Anyway, about that time: Miss Marie had featured a wickedly funny, little story here entitled, “A Very Brief Fairy Tale” in which Wicked Witch Mara and Prince Machio made Princess Alice cry for ten years because Mara had designs on Prince Machio. Well, Cynthia, your bright and cheerful Sunshine here reminded me of what happened with Prince Macio and Wicked Witch Mara. Prince Machio wrote a little song, some time after, about Mara and himself during their ten years together (they’re still friends; would you believe it?!). The lyrics he wrote went something like, “Shine on, Sunshine. Keep on shining bright…”. He named his song, “My Baby Changes Like The Weather.” Well, Mr. Smokey Robinson and his friends, “The Miracles”, had to sing it, as Prince Machio was afraid that Mara might turn him into a toad if he sang it himself, you see. It’s swell that Mara came out of seclusion yesterday, even if only for a little of the happy sunshine here. She’s earned it after her years of hard work casting her spell on Prince Machio. One day, i do feel they will live happily ever after the ‘second time around’. ( Happy to see your pretty, little pumpkin still here.. 🎃).

      1. Laura!!!I love the way you think!
I’m always surprised about what folks remember. That was an evil little story. 😈 There just might have been a little jealousy envolved. Lol

      1. Thank you, Mara…er…Miss Marie! We all love (and miss) the way YOU think! 😱😅😂😂😃. A LITTLE jealousy involved??!! Heck! if one could amass and concentrate in a barrel of gunpowder the atomic energy of Mara’s love for Prince Machio, stick a wick in it and light it on fire, it would probably take out not just Ohio, but the whole bleeping planet! 😅😂

      2. Oh hi, Laura,
I think you are the same Laura whom I first met here on Flight Crew.
If so, so lovely to hear from you again! Warm hug, Laura!

I came in less than a year ago, so I do not know of the story of wicked witch Mara and Prince Machio. Thus thank you for telling me a bit about it.

I am teasing Marie a bit about her name. at one post sometime back, she wrote something like, please oh please never call her ‘Maria’….
And I replied to her then – with the words of the song, “The most beautiful sound I ever heard…Maria. Maria, Maria… Maria!”
And then, if I remember correctly, someone wrote – what if Ignazio called her Maria…. To which Marie replied, he could call her anything, even ‘Penelope’ and she would respond.

        Thus, I addressed her as “Maria…. oops! I mean Penelope…. Oops again, ok Marie”   

And Marie, you’re welcome. The pleasure is mine! Sooooooooo happy really to hear from YOU. warm hug also.

      3. Laura — i remember that you liked my pumpkin back then and mentioned back then that you were glad i kept it.
        and mention it again now!
so YES!!! IT’S YOU!!!! WOW! WARM WARM HUG!
so so sooooo nice to hear from YOU! 😉 😉 🙂

  22. “…mouths 5FT. wide. My greatest desire was to crawl inside.” 😂😂… Can’t stop laughing. Just like old times. Just look at that happy Mr. Sunshine above. Sweet Cynthia; she loves Miss Marie as do, at least, 78 others here (myself included).

      1. (😘Miss Marie, I really did mean what I wrote up above about another time around! it’s just a matter of time and the timing, which no one really understands, but which most of us just sense. it is said that time is eternal, so i guess it’s a matter of trust and faith, you know, as in ‘all in DUE time’! 💗

      1. Miss Cynthia! Thank you for the hug, Sunshine! Am still lovin’ that little pumpkin. It’s sweet like you. Read your comments here; so glad something told me to return to these comments. I’ve tried twice now to say “HI” to you, but it’s taking an hour ’cause my computer keeps freezing; drivin’ me crazy! Before it does it again: Were you ‘here’ last year when Leelee posted “Il Volo Off-Stage: End Of Summer” where, somehow, a few of us suddenly started ‘speaking’ like pirates? Marie was in Italy and it’s like we were suddenly behaving mischievously. It was a lot of fun, but we went on and on! 🙂 Poor Leelee. That was a hoot! It seems like such a long time ago now. Big hug to you, too, Cynthia! <3

      2. hi Laura, i came in just about a post before Marie and Jane left for Italy…. they posted that they were leaving on their grand trip…..
i at the moment don’t recall the post you are talking about…. (but it’s late here and i should be in bed soon 😉 )

  23. YAHOOOO I just found out I have the DVD. Now |I will try to get the movie. Yippee. THEY WERE OUTSTANDING YIPPEE, YIPPEE. I didn’t know I had bought it a couple of years ago I guess it must have been on sale when I bought the latest CD. Whatever the reason I GOT IT. YAHOO.

  24. Thanks Marie if you ever hear of the movie selling anywhere please tell me. Trying amazon now, looking forward to the next concert, CAN’T WAIT. Marie we will run hand in hand to get the first hug & kiss from Ignazio. Doesn,t matter if you get there first. We,ll both be happy.

      1. Loretta, Amazon has the DVD of the movie. Get the one for $19.54. It is the more complete version. ( https://www.amazon.com/IL-Volo-Placido-Domingo-Tribute/dp/B01KYQWVK6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503233586&sr=8-2&keywords=Il+Volo+DVD). When we got it they only had 30 of them and we snapped one up. Sometimes they have this version and sometimes they don’t, Good luck. It’s wonderful and not exactly the complete movie and very close. They just left out a few minutes of the beginning interviews. They will be in Mexico in September and there are tickets in Monterrey – (south of Texas) on September 9th. We cannot go. Jay is still too weak and I keep trying to find a way to go. Please let me know how you like the DVD.

  25. Hi Marie, Loved your poem! Been missing you, and of course, not knowing when the next concert tour will bring our boys back to us in the US has left me feeling rather blue. But your poem did much to bring the joy back into my life. So thank you so very much for that. Hope to hear from you again soon ~ Allene.

    1. Thank you, Allene. I can’t wrap my head around no concert next year. Makes me mad! Next time I see one of the boys I’m gonna…gonna kiss him on the cheek. Darn…I meant to say something else….fingers wouldn’t let me.

      1. I suppose it depends on when it’s released. I’m hoping they have reasons to be here other than concerts. Still not wrapping my head around not seeing them at all.

  26. Also as well as wait through 2018 we will have to wait to find what date in 2019 sssoooo from now to then I just hope they can get one heck of a good rest & vacation & fun time. They deserve that from the hectic & constant concerts they had to do for such a long time in the Latin concerts. When we see them next they will know how appreciative we are to see them by the response they receive. Now everyone stop crying including me WWWHHAAA. Marie no going over to Italy to stalk Ignazio without me.

  27. Marie has finally returned to us. I came home today after having had a great vacation in Sicily where besides seeing beautiful places I hoped to meet at least one of our beautiful and very good guys.
Unfortunately I have not been able to meet them. While I was there without the translator , I saw that you had a post. I exclaimed aloud ” Evviva Marie is back to write” your poem on the movie is great.
You’re missed by all the whole crew, and do not worry too much if you think that next year we will not see the guys, the movie UN AMORE COSI’ GRANDE is coming out and from the trailer the guys were great.
