GLEANINGS ON IL VOLO by Daniela

We know that young Korean singers appreciate the music of Il Volo very much, in fact they often offer their songs, even in the Italian language.

It must be really difficult for them, a language so different from their own, but they have sensed that our boys’ songs are beautiful in their original language.

Yesterday, on Twitter, thanks to ItaGuyIV, the videos of two songs were published, don’t pay attention to the syncro, because the audio is not well synchronized with the video, ………. but you already have heard these songs ??

Yes,  it is MUSICA CHE RESTA and VICINISSIMO, but what a strange impression to hear these sung like this. Anyway congratulations to these three Asian guys.

It seems to be a competition performance and seeing the reactions of the participating boys (all very young) it seems to me that this genre is very popular.
It has a certain effect to think that the songs of Il Volo are taken as a model, analyzed and copied for a singing competition.

But I am proud of this.

Of course, they are still far from imitating the union of the voices of our three boys!!

While trying to find news about our three boys, there was this nice message from IL VOLO:

You have always been close to us with great affection, with your voices that accompanied ours during concerts, with your heart and with your words also through the many messages you send us. This time it is we who send you a message full of affection, we are here to gather around you in this particularly difficult period. We will come out stronger than before, together!

After the concert in Monte Carlo, and the party in Sicily, Piero Ignazio and Gianluca returned to their homes.

Sometimes, some fans have an unexpected meeting, and then publish the photos and so we too can see where our favorites are.

Ignazio was photographed in a barber shop in Milazzo, a Sicilian town.

Piero, visited the beautiful Palatine Chapel in Palermo.

GLEAN 03

The Palatine Chapel is located in the Norman Palace and is entirely covered with gold mosaics from the Byzantine era.

It is a Unesco heritage site.

GLEAN 04

Gianluca went to L’Aquila to see the PERDONANZA CELESTINIANA 2020.

GLEAN 05

If you remember, in 2019, a year ago, IL Volo did the concert for the Perdonanza Celestiniana and it was a great success.

In this photo, Gianluca with master Leonardo de Amicis, who directed Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero at TI LASCIO UNA CANZONE.

The photo was posted by Leonardo de Amicis with this dedication:

“Friendship, affection and esteem.”

The latest news is that Il Volo will participate in an event in the Arena in Verona, to support the “invisible” people (workers, electricians, audio technicians, etc.) who work for the concerts and that COVID19 has reduced without work.

There will be many singers including Il Volo. The event will be broadcast by RAI 1 on 5 September.

GLEAN 06

For now, that’s it.

Let me know what you think of Korean singers singing in Italian.

As for Piero Ignazio and Gianluca, even if it will be for one song only, I am really happy to see them on RAI1, in a few days.

  1. Great article Daniela! This just proves what I’ve always said about our guys, they relate so well with the young people. They have introduced to young people their love for this music which is so different from any other music out there today! Bravo!

    1. Thanks Susan and I agree with you, young people like them, but it also depends on their culture. In Asia this kind of singing is highly appreciated among young people, much more than in Italy at this time.

    1. Thanks to you Petra. I don’t compare the three Asians with Il Volo, but I think they are to be appreciated, if only for the fact that they sing in a language that is really difficult for them.

  2. Thank you for sharing I find that the Asian performers did quite well for a foreign language. But of course our Boys are the best

  3. They are great role models for everyone around the world. Young and old and from every walk of life admire Il Volo. They are a class act!! Just love them!!

  4. Thank you Daniela, At end of the first clip, one of the
participants makes a universal sign for “goosebumps”
running down his arm as his listened to the trio.
Something we can all identify with !! Love it.

    1. I noticed that too Martha and I thought “we’re not the only ones that these songs give the creeps to” …… and if these guys heard the original voices, they would have double chills.

  5. Thank you, Daniela, for sharing all this really wonderful news. One of the reasons I had not been following IL Volo (my very favorite singers and performers!) was because I had been studying Korean (among other things)! It is not easy to pronounce, but it is even more of a challenge to write! I have ordered the IL Volo book! Dena Pitchfork, Mercer Island, Washingtobn U.S.A,.

    1. Wow, Dena, I admire you very much for your commitment to the Korean language.
The Il Volo book will not disappoint you, but you will have to read in Italian!

      1. Daniela, I knew the book was in Italian. I am very fluent in Spanish (can read the newspaper). I have only had a first course in Italian. I know I will miss a lot, but maybe I can get the gist of some of it. I should take more courses in Italian! (Since our lovely singers are Italian.) From some of their of their interviews, I notice they are fluent in Spanish.

      2. Dena, you are a true polyglot, congratulations.
You will surely understand almost everything, knowing Spanish.
Yes, the boys speak English and Spanish correctly but they said they would like to speak Portuguese too, which they still understand.

  6. I’m impressed how well they sang these songs. The Italian language must have been a challenge for them.

  7. I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been busy with work but I just wanted to point out that in those two clips, the performers were Chinese. I think the confusion may be coming from the fact that both Korea and China had/have a show where the participants were classically trained and performing songs from opera or other classical pieces. I’m not sure if the Korean one is still running, but the Chinese one had 2 seasons and is over for now. I know I’ve seen clips of 2 Korean singers performing Grande Amore, and Chinese singers have also performed La vita, Grande Amore, and Per Te chi Saro. There may be other Il volo songs in the Korean show but unfortunately I don’t speak Korean so never watched it. The Chinese show is actually how I was introduced to Il Volo! I watched their Grande Amore performance, really liked the song, and was curious about the original version so YouTubed it. Then I fell in love with Piero, Ignazio, and Gianluca 🙂

    1. Karen, grazie mille for pointing this out. I referred to who posted the videos and wrote “Korean singers”. I knew that young Koreans like the music of Il Volo, and I knew that in China they are very popular. It makes me even more proud of them.
Had you seen the post where there was the performance of Il Volo and the three Chinese singers here in Rome? Really very good and they all sang together.

  8. ‘lL Volo initially set out to encourage young people of the world to like and appreciate their kind of music. This shows that they continue to meet that goal. Of course as you mentioned, no one has come close to replicating their voices.

Thank you, Daniela for keeping us up to date on ‘Ll Bill news and for providing translations.

    Mary Jane Lavin

    1. Mary Jane, I would say goal fully achieved.
I wish young Europeans would appreciate this kind of music more, but they are often ridiculed by the radios themselves.

  9. Daniela, thank you for the videos. I thought the young asian boys did a nice job. Of course no one can sing those songs like Il Volo! But I’m sure the boys would be very appreciative and flattered by the effort.

    1. Cathy, I think Piero Ignazio and Gianluca are very impressed by the good performance of the Asian guys and also by the fact that they are taken as an example.

  10. Ciao Daniela…as always, thank you so much for keeping us informed of what our boys are doing! I am totally devoted to Gianluca, so he is of special interest to me all the time. His beautiful voice and his warm heart has captured me…Amore Mio Sempre. Gian💙The Asian voices were interesting. Thank you again Daniela, and please stay safe…we need you!!!! —Eleanor

    1. Eleanor, I was waiting for your comment, of course I know that you are fond of Gianluca more and therefore I must tell you to be careful.
In a few days there will be a post of mine from an interview with Gian just last week, hardly anyone has seen it and I have translated it for all of you.

      1. Thank you, Daniela. I am just in awe, and I don’t mean anything more than that.

  11. Thanks so much, Daniela–I really enjoyed this, as always. And then the extra bonus in your reply to Karen of the link to the combined Il Volo/Chinese performance, which I hadn’t seen. (I’m going to have to read all of your old posts!!) Gosh, those Chinese guys are tall–they made Ignazio look short! Quite a concert in a spectacular place.

    1. Judi, I knew someone missed that post, so I took the opportunity to bring it back.
I was impressed myself with the height of the Chinese guys, I really didn’t imagine.
I really liked the sense of camaraderie that our boys immediately established with the Chinese, all good and beautiful environment.
