EVENTS DURING CHRISTMAS TIME 2021 by Daniela

During the period of the Christmas holidays, Il Volo was a guest in several television and non-television programs.
We start with their presence on the evening of the eve (recorded previously) in a television program in Spain called “Viva la Fiesta :Nochebuena” broadcast by Telecinco.
Il Volo performs “SE” from Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (video sync is not perfect).

Really sweet this song and our boys, what about pure elegance.

On the same evening , Il Volo is in Montecarlo, for a private event.
We have news of this event from the photos that Gianluca and Piero have published, unfortunately we do not see anything of the event.

But here we are at the most beautiful part of the evening.
After the Mass celebrated by the Pope, greetings from Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero are broadcast on RAI1 and, from the Frasassi caves, the sweet song: O Holy Night.
GIANLUCA = The most beautiful things in life are not that far away, they are close to us, they are within us.
IGNAZIO = I am inside this magnificent place that never ceases to enchant us.
PIERO = We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Fantastic. Finally we have been able to see another piece recorded in Frasassi.
This song always causes me shivers of emotion, the voices are wonderful, our young men are very elegant, and the place is enchanting, despite the low temperatures, you will have all noticed the puffs of breath during the video.

Il Volo then delivered their vinyl record to some friends as a Christmas gift, and some of them thanked by publishing these photos and comments:

This was published by MCN Studio 17, the recording studio in Sicily where they recorded Ecstasy of Gold.
MCN Studio 17 had write this beautiful words:
“A year ago we had the privilege of being able to host in our studio, the beginning of this epic musical adventure, of the three golden boys of Italian bel canto, Piero Barone, Gianluca Ginoble and Ignazio Boschetto, who with polite simplicity have demonstrated their artistic and human greatness. Today we receive the fruit of this meeting that we will never forget. Thanks ilvolomusic always go ahead.”

Please click on the image below to view the video from Saturino.

This video was published by Saturnino Celano, (he is a well known Italian musician, and also a producer and composer), here is what he says:
“Hello everyone, I wanted to show you one of the most beautiful gifts ever received, really never received, ever since I started attending the wonderful world of music, this is a truly amazing gift.
Look what I received today, complete with dedication, from Ignazio Piero and Gianluca, amazing double vinyl, look how wonderful, and to do justice to this work, which I had the honor of listening to while they were recording it. (He shows the photo of the internal disk) Look what a sight. (he shows the red vinyl and puts it on the turntable (Ecstasy of gold begins).
Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you very much !!!
(He plays the start of Your Love and greets a friend live.)
Il Volo Sings Morricone, complete with dedication and autographs. Really wonderful, I recommend it at all, and thanks again to Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca.”
This was published by Red Ronnie (very famous Italian TV presenter, his is the Barone Rosso and Roxy Bar programs).
“I got this wonderful gift from the guys of Il Volo: Il Volo Sings Morricone, look!
Yes, dear guys, but we said to ourselves that you were coming to the Red Baron, clearly the jukebox is there,  still broken, (Ignazio broke it), so Ignazio is armored, but I’m waiting for you. Thank you!”
The video above was published by Saretto of the Bam Bar in Taormina.
And this from Antonella Clerici, the one who presented them in 2009 in Ti Lascio una Canzone.❤
Gianluca also sent this sweet message:
“I want to send a special greeting to all the children of the AGBE (Association of Parents for Homopathic Children) and their families.
Unfortunately I wanted to come and see you, but my work commitments did not allow me to be there with you. But I send you many wishes for a Merry Christmas with the hope of hugging us again soon and that this situation will improve soon too.
Hello to everyone, I love you and see you very soon.”
Unfortunately, there was also sad news, such as that of the passing  of the singer of Il Divo and their dear friend, Carlos Marin. R.I.P.
Reposted from @ilvolomusic.
It hurts our heart to hear this news. We have lost a beautiful soul and a wonderful voice that will live forever.
Our deepest condolences to your family and friends.

Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero then published their Christmas greetings, in three different languages:

English

Spanish

Italian

Really many commitments and all fantastic, but there is still one more, a long interview with the RAI1 television program Domenica In, aired on December 26th.
But for that, there is a long translation and you have to wait a little longer.
See you soon: Daniela

  1. Always a pleasure to read your articles. Keeping us up to date with what the boys have been up to. Especially for fans who don’t speak Italian.
Many thanks for all of your hard work. May I wish you all a Wonderful and Prosperous New Year 🍾🥂

  2. Daniela and Pat, Thanks for your work on these Holiday
messages and also your year-long contributions. They keep
me warm as we move toward a new year AND new
beginnings. So happy the guys get time with friends and
family, and you both do as well. Love, Martha

  3. Daniela and Pat I sincerely hope you and your families had a very Merry Christmas. Thank you so much for these translations and videos. Our guys have very busy schedules these days. They have been on the road, on the tracks, and in the air. I hope and pray that they stay well and that their world tour will not have any hiccups.

Wishing you a wonderful close to 2021 and a fantastic 2022.

    1. Mary Jane, it was a very good Christmas with me, thank you and I hope that the new year will bring us many beautiful things and many beautiful concerts.

  4. Daniela and Pat, yet again a grateful thank you for this catchup. They are Golden Boys. This ugly Covid has given them the opportunity to develop further and spread their Bil Canto all over their beloved Italy. We have loved them all over the world, but they said Italy did not recognize them. Now Italy can know and love them. I am tearful when I think of all they have accomplished. We Il Volovers have been with the all the way, sharing the beauty of their Bel Canto.

    1. It’s true Kay, Italy is slowly realizing the value of these guys and they are happy about it.
The Bel Canto has also had a good boost in the young, thanks to Il Volo.

  5. Daniela, leave it to our guys to sing so eloquently in a wondrous cave setting and yes, I could see Gianluca’s gust of breath. Never heard Piero hold a note so long. Do you know of what significance are the pins with chains they wear on their tux’s? Happy and totally healthy New Year, Daniela and Pat.

    1. Thank you, Mark! I’ll let Daniela give you the definitive answer about the pins. I do know they are from Dolce & Gabbana. The guys have worn them at other performances and I noticed each one is a different color. Happy New Year!

    2. Mark, as Pat has already told you, are a Dolce & Gabbana ornament, I don’t think they are linked to a meaning, just a detail of beauty.
Even in the Verona concert they had jacket pins, but different from these.
Happy New Year to you too, Mark.

  6. Once again you have lifted our spirits with you elegant translations.
I do hope you realize how very much we all appreciate you girls hard work.
We look forward to each and every we see you have posted information on our boys.
I wish you all, of course I include our boys, when I say a brilliant New Year and happy life!

    1. Eleanor, I know you are waiting for my translations, and I am happy if they help to lift your spirits.
I try to keep you updated on all events.
There’s a nice long translation coming soon. Happy New Year.

  7. What a lovely set in Spain. It was wonderful the way that the audience applauded the guys all through the song, and it was well-deserved–the way they looked and sounded!! We Volovers can’t help but be proud and happy that they are finally getting all this attention from the Italian media. Daniela and Pat – you made my day again. I hope your holiday was lovely, and I’m really looking forward to the next translation too!

    1. Judi, I also liked the video from Spain, too bad there is only the song and not an interview, even a short one.
It’s true, we volovers are very proud of our young men. The next translation is well underway, it will come soon.

  8. Thank you Pat and Daniela for this latest post. I never tire of hearing them sing “O Holy Night”. They looked elegant as usual in the amazing Frasassi caves. It’s wonderful that they are finally receiving the recognition they truly deserve. The album is beautiful and the more I listen to it, the more I love it! I hope you had a lovely Christmas and thank you once again for all your do.

    1. You’re welcome, Margaret. I don’t think I had ever heard them sing O Holy Night in Italian before…..just beautiful!

    2. As I have already written, Margaret, “O Holy Night” puts chills on my skin every time I listen to it, wonderful! I agree with you, the new album is just amazing, I don’t get tired of listening to it.

  9. Thank you Daniela and Pat for sharing all news about our guys. The video from Frassasi Caves is beautiful. The news of Corlos death is so sad, Il Divo won’t be the same without his voice. Unfortunately the same day as Carlos, died my father- in- law, very sad day. I wish you Happy New Year, lot of health and strength.

    1. You’re right Jolanta, Il Divo, will never be the same without Carlos Marin, he was a member from the first year of training, and he was also a special person. It is so sad that you lost your father-in-law the same day, I offer you my condolences.

  10. so much you must have to do and you take time to include us in your and their lives. Thank you more than I can say. A very HAppyNew Year to you and yours!

    1. Thanks Jill, I must also tell you that the boys, despite the commitments, managed to return to their families for Christmas, or rather, Gianluca and Piero are back in the family, Ignazio flew to his girlfriend but took his family behind him, that is, his other two women!

  11. Thanks, once again, Daniela and Pat for this great article. What a beautiful O Holy Night sung in the caves by our wonderful Il Volo.

Like Mark, I’ve been wondering about the lapel pins and their significance. Would love to hear the origin and reason for them.

    Happy 2022 to all! Dolores

    1. Happy New Year to you too, Dolores.
As you may have read, there is no particular motif for jacket pins, just an ornament.
Yes, the Frasassi caves are a wonderful place and that song sung like this, what can I say, magnificent.

  12. Just another note, apropos to nothing in particular.

I watched, for the first time, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which was televised last night on a movie station. I must say that, except for the exceptional music of Ennio Morricone, I found the movie to be a run of the mill western with a lot of shooting, side glances and bodies!!! Just my opinion as, I understand, it is thought of as a classic.

    1. Dolores, these films that must be seen from the point of view of the period in which they were made. Has it ever happened to you to review after 20 or 30 years a film considered a cult in those years, and to think that now you saw it in a different light, sometimes even ridiculous? To me yes!

      1. To me yes too! We have re-watched films we really liked at the time and now wonder why did we think those films were so good? It is hard to recapture the mood and the emotions of times past.

  13. Dolores, I haven’t seen that one, but I too went looking for some of the films from which the guys are singing Morricone’s music. I watched “Once Upon A Time In The West” (didn’t love it, except the music) and “Malena”, which I really did like a lot.

    1. Judi, the same thing I said to Dolores applies, Once Upon a Time in the West, it’s a 1968 western movie. Malena is a totally different genre and in any case it is already much more recent, it is from 2000. I agree that Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is the best, beautiful and moving story, it is a 1988 film.

  14. Thank you Daniela and Pat for another great article on our guys They have really been busy the past few months which is a real bonus for us fans. Wishing you guys a very Happy New Year and keep up the good work, you

  15. Thanks Daniela and Pat for another great article. The guys have really been busy the past few months with many appearances which is a real bonus for us fans. Just want to wish you guys a very Happy New Year. Let’s hope that covid doesn’t cause any concerts to be cancelled and everybody stays safe. Happy New Year to all you loyal fans out there.

    1. Thanks Beverley for all the nice compliments and good wishes for the coming year, which I reciprocate with all my heart.
For now, the Covid situation is under control here, nothing to do with last year.

  16. Sorry for the double post but first one disappeared and I waited to see if it would show and it didn’t right away so I posted again.

  17. Beverley, I find that if your comment isn’t posted right away, if you go out of the site and come back in — there it is|!!!

  18. Hello and thank you for keeping everyone informed about Il Volo. I don’t remember where I read that Gianluca said something to the effect that he lives his life with his family and time to time there is this experience of signing around the world. Does anyone remember where that was posted? I think it was in Italian. I’m in California and I understand just a little of Italian. I’m curious to know how he experiences being a singer, a very famous singer. How he balanced life and work. Thank you! Grazie!
