TUTTI PER UNO – FIRST EVENING by Daniela

The great evening of the first concert TUTTI PER UNO (ALL FOR ONE) broadcast by Canale 5 has arrived.
What can I say, a wonderful evening that kept people glued in front of the TV.
As promised, I’m sending you the video of the entire concert, which I hope you all can see.
I will try to translate briefly what is said and I will offer you some lyrics of songs that you don’t know.
But here’s the video, good vision, enjoy every moment. ☺

I want to tell you that this is the evening recorded on May 3, the one in which I was not present and therefore it was not raining.
But there is a small piece of the evening of May 1st and you will immediately realize from the rain you will see, and from the waterproof hoods worn by the people, surely the next episode will be much more focused on the rainy evening.
As I already told you, the concert begins with GRANADA, sung in three different musical styles and from three different places, which could not happen at the concert on May 1st due to the rain.
Seeing the Arena di Verona from above is a unique spectacle. The sets are beautiful and the stage presence of the orchestra and choir is really special and then there are them: Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, unique!

After greetings to the public, GRANDE AMORE sets off immediately.
The first guests are the Pooh, an Italian band with a 50-year career behind them. They are very close friends of Il Volo, they love and appreciate them, years ago when Il Volo was just starting out, the Pooh invited Il Volo during one of their concerts and they sang together and the thing repeats itself tonight, Il Volo and the Poohs united by music and from the beautiful songs of the Pooh, fantastic.

Nicely, at the end of their performance, the Poohs give our boys some good advice:

1= We have never followed trends, don’t do this either and you will always be personal.
2= My advice instead is this, there are three of you, alone you represent 30%, instead together you represent 3000%, this is the strength of the group, remember this.
3= I believe that the Pooh’s real success was a little talent and a lot of passion, the same talent and the same passion that I see in your eyes and in your career, and this is a good sign for you.

Federica Panicucci, well-known presenter of Canale 5, is introduced below, it is the first time she has worked with Il Volo, but there is immediately a good understanding. Her presence will not be intrusive at all.
Ignazio is struck by the beautiful Federica and instead she calls applause for “these fantastic bearers of Italian music in the world”.
Federica explains that during the evening Il Volo will show unpublished moments with solos and duets never performed, just to show their different personalities.
Ignazio explains that the three of them also have three different types of fans, mothers like Piero, Gianluca is “the one who catches the most” and children like him. 😁😁😁
Ignazio begins with the solo dedicated to Mia Martini, the good and late singer of this song. ALMENO TU NELL’UNIVERSO. ❤
Follows Gianluca who tells an anecdote of Elvis and then sings SUSPICIOUS MINDS. ❤

Closes the three solos Piero with “VIVA IL VINO SPUMEGGIANTE”, from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana.
This is followed by NESSUN DORMA.
Panicucci enters and asks Il Volo some amusing questions:
She asks Piero if they hadn’t become singers what Ignazio would have done. Piero replies that Ignazio would have been a comedian, because when he arrives he brings good humor.
She asks Gianluca in which emergency situation he would never call Piero. Gianluca replies that he would never let Piero cook, because he doesn’t even know how to open a can of tuna.
To Ignazio she asks what is never missing in Gianluca’s suitcase and Ignazio answers the hair dryer and even heels, but then adds a book, because he always reads.
New guest, this time it’s a woman, the rocker Gianna Nannini who sings in a duet classic-rock with Piero: MERAVIGLIOSA CREATURA. ☺
There is a medley of Neapolitan songs: TORNA A SURRIENTO and O SOLE MIO.
A guest arrives, a young Italian singer-songwriter: Francesca Michielin who will duet with Ignazio. Before singing, both read beautiful words I think written by Francesca herself:
IGNAZIO= So, I want to open up, lay bare, tell you the crash of my heart. Sounds like the title of one of those romantic movies, doesn’t it? Which always ends badly.
FRANCESCA= Inside each of us, a chaos of voices resonates, some make us feel insecure, others invincible, some don’t give us answers, others confuse us, and then there is a voice that tells you the truth that we will only understand later.
IGNAZIO= Yes, then love arrives alone, it arrives alone. It’s useless to go looking for him, dressing like Indiana Jones in search of unobtainable love, no. Love comes by itself, and doesn’t show itself when you seek it.
FRANCESCA= One fine day you realize that he has always been there, around the corner, silently, staring at you.
IGNAZIO= Yes, it was right there, that person who, despite making you feel good, tried to push her away.
FRANCESCA= Let’s not waste time looking for something that doesn’t make sense, or holding back someone who doesn’t make us feel good, because in the end, what matters most is feeling good.
IGNAZIO= It’s feeling good.
FRANCESCA= And we deserve to feel good.
Then Ignazio and Francesca sing Billie Eilish’s song: WHEN THE PARTY’S OVER. ❤❤ Very sweet.
Follows: IO CHE NON VIVO SENZA TE
Another young and talented Italian singer: Annalisa who will perform a duet with Gianluca and will sing a beautiful SHALLOW. ❤❤  WOW, what emotions.

At this point in the concert a long piece of the concert I was at is inserted, it is clear from the rain.
The first song is MY WAY.
New guest a young Italian singer-songwriter: IRAMA.
Gianluca begins a beautiful song called LA CURA (the cure) written by Battiato, another great Italian songwriter who wrote it for his woman, when she discovered she had a serious illness. The words are beautiful and Gianluca and Irama sing it from the heart. ❤

LA CURA

G= I will protect you from the fears of hypochondria
From the disturbances that you will meet on your way from today
From the injustices and deceptions of your time
From failures that by your nature you will normally attract
I will relieve you from your pains and mood swings
From the obsessions of your manias
I will overcome the gravitational currents
Space and light for not to make old you
And you will be cured of all diseases
Because you are a special being
And I will take care of you
I= I wandered the fields of Tennessee
How I got there, who knows
Don’t you have white flowers for me?
Faster than eagles my dreams
They cross the sea
Above all, I will bring you silence and patience
We will walk together the paths that lead to the essence
The scents of love will inebriate our bodies
The August calm will not calm our senses
G= I will weave your hair like the plots of a song
I=I know the laws of the world, and I will give them to you
G+I= I will overcome
gravitational currents
Space and light, not to make you grow old
I will save you from all melancholy
Because you are a special being
And I will take care of you
Yes, I will take care of you.
And now, Irama, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio sing together the beautiful song written by Irama to remember his grandmother: OVUNQUE SARAI ❤

OVUNQUE SARAI

I= If you are wind, you will sing
If you are water, you will shine
If you will be what I will be
And if you have time, I will wait for you
Forever
G= If you are light, you will warm me
If you’re the moon, I’ll see you
And if you’re here, I won’t know
But if it’s you, I’ll hear it
I=Wherever you will be, wherever I will be
In every gesture I will look for you
I+G+P+I= If you’re not there, I’ll understand
And in the silence I will listen to you
I=If I’m on the ground, you will lift me up
If it’s cold, you’ll burn
G= And I know you can hear me
P= Where each soul has a color
And every tear has your name
I= If you come back here, if ever, you know that
I+G+P+I= I will wait for you
Wherever you are, wherever I am
In every gesture I will look for you
If you’re not there, I’ll understand
And in the silence I will listen to you
I will listen to you
I= If you are wind, you will sing
In the montage of the concert for TV, it was cut, but Ignazio said that evening that this song deeply touches their feelings, because he has lost his father, Piero his grandfather and Irama his grandmother. ❤
A blogger wrote this comment:
“Seeing artists of this young age who manage to interpret (and well) masterpieces of this caliber is an injection of confidence.”
Small detail, we criticize Gianluca’s shoes a lot, but have you seen Irama’s shoes?? 😁
The concert continues with the beautiful soprano Aida Garifullina, beautiful, talented and elegant, she will play with Piero LIBIAM DE LIETI CALICI
Wonderful ❤
Damn it was raining heavily, impossible to get up and we clapped under the ponchos.
The piece from the May 1st concert ends here.
We continue with the beautiful song by Maurizio Costanzo: SE TELEFONANDO
Federica Panicucci returns to the stage. She asks Piero how his passion for singing was born. He recounts the episode in which he goes to a friend of his grandfather’s on an estate. He is struck by the voice of Mario del Monaco who sings A love so great. “That child thus recognized his vocation, that child was me.
I hope I can arouse some curiosity in the people who will listen to the next aria. If only I succeed with just one person here in the Arena or at home, then the goal will be achieved” 😘
Piero sings E LUCEVAN LE STELLE from Tosca. ❤

It’s time for a comedic guest, Giorgio Panariello.
When he enters, he stands in front of a lectern, he is serious and tells an excerpt of the beautiful plot of the film Nuovo Cinema Paradiso by Giuseppe Tornatore.
All to anticipate the new SE song.
Panariello is back and this time in a comic version, it’s a very hilarious skit.
Panariello tries to convince the boys that being three is not good, and proposes himself as the fourth element for Il Volo.
In the end, to show that he is up to this role, they sing the NESSUN DORMA which repeats VINCERÒ and in the highest moment, Panariello doesn’t say “I will win” but says “a draw is enough for me”. 😁😁
Then they perform an Italian song IL PULLOVER and every time someone makes a mistake, first Ignazio and then Gianluca, really nice!!
In the end Panariello, going out, says “But we are friends……(it’s true they are)….don’t call me anymore in your concerts!!” 😁😁
A beautiful and emotional moment follows.
IGNAZIO= Now is a very emotional moment for us, we have decided to sing this next song to reach all the people who have suffered in these years, to all the people who continue to suffer, and to all those people who unfortunately today, we, they watch from up there. Let’s hope that our song, our thoughts, can reach them up there. IL Volo sings HALLELUJAH!
There are no words! One magical moment and people responded by lighting their hearts. ❤❤❤

Immediately afterwards Piero sings with a beautiful song from 1942, VOGLIO VIVERE COSÌ.
Federica Panicucci returns, this time she seats the boys and asks more questions. She immediately asks Gianluca what gift Piero would like to receive on his birthday and Gianluca replies a nice tennis racket and Ignazio jokingly says that he would have given him a watering can for his flower on his jacket! 😁
Federica asks Ignazio what superpower Gianluca would like to have and he replies the power to lengthen his legs. 😁
She asks Piero to tell some funny figure of Ignazio and he tells that in Vienna Ignazio greeted the public saying:
“Good evening Berlin”.😁
Federica compliments the boys on their tour that has just finished and a video of beautiful images starts and Federica asks what is the best memory.
GIANLUCA= Seeing people’s faces is oxygen for us and a privilege. We are young and we are living the life we have always wanted to live, and it is amazing how this music overcomes the barrier of language, and reaches all ages, and we are proud to be able to give these emotions to all of you. 😘
It’s time for a solo by Ignazio and he pays homage to Celine Dion. Sing MY HEART WILL GO ON, a part of this also in the original key. Fantastic.❤
At this point begins a tribute to another Italian singer-songwriter: Sergio Endrigo.
Il Volo sings a trio of beautiful songs by Endrigo, starting with CANZONE PER TE, followed LONTANO DAGLI OCCHI and last GIROTONDO INTORNO AL MONDO, this is a beautiful hymn to peace and friendship, in the background war videos, unfortunately …… Piero says: “This song was written in the 60s but unfortunately it is still relevant today.”
Very nice to see Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero putting their hand on each other’s shoulders at the end of the song.

GIROTONDO INTORNO AL MONDO

G= If all girls
The girls of the world
They shook hands
They shook hands
Then there would be a roundabout
Around the world
Around the world
I= And if all the boys
The boys of the world
Wish once
Becoming sailors
Then a great bridge would be made
With many boats
Around the sea
P= And if all the people
He shook hands
If the world, really
He lent himself a hand
Then it would be a roundabout
Around the world
Around the world
G+I+P= What if all the people
He shook hands
If the world, really
He lent himself a hand
Then it would be a roundabout
Around the world
Around the world
The Gianluca concert continues with a solo, the beautiful WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD, a very sweet song. ❤
Now still in trio, Il Volo performs a song well known to us: PIOVE, homage to Modugno.
Followed by a solo by Gianluca with the choir, the beautiful KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR by Bob Dylan.

Another guest, the baritone Gianfranco Montresor, in duet with Piero, performs an aria by Bizet in French: AU FOND DU TEMPLE SAINT
Beautiful duet! ❤
Last solo, it’s Ignazio’s turn singing a song by Evanescence: MY IMMORTAL.
How much passion. ❤
Federica Panicucci returns, announcing the end of the concert, greets everyone and makes an appointment for next week.
And how does it end? As it should. HERE’S TO YOU by Ennio Morricone. The three boys descend into the audience to shake hands and take selfies. Very respectful public, people approach them but without causing problems.

It was a very long concert, but what a concert.
I have no words, despite the numerous guests, our boys shone with their own light in every song.
Beautiful duets, magnificent solos.
It goes without saying that the concert recorded the highest ratings of the evening and people’s comments were very many and positive, everyone admired their way of being, polite and never excessive, in addition to their skill. As for the newspapers,  only a couple wrote about the concert, the others did not write  positive or negative comments, as if there hadn’t been any concert.
But it doesn’t matter, people got it, they’re waking up from their slumber, they really appreciated it.
On this Fanpage.it Facebook page, not dedicated only to Il Volo, which published this beautiful photo with SUPERLATIVES written the morning after the concert, people started commenting and even today after 4 days they continue to write enthusiastic comments, and they are not only written by Il Volo fans, they are all the people who saw the concert, and this makes me so happy.
Francesca Michelin, who duetted with Ignazio, posted this comment:
“I could say that my voice didn’t shake like when I was a child, or that it was a normal performance, but I would say a lie, because it was one of the most powerful and beautiful moments I’ve experienced on stage, I felt fragile and strong like never before thank you very much Ignazio and Il Volo for this shared magic.” ❤

ALL MUSIC ITALIA posted this photo with the caption, and this comment:
IL VOLO, ITALIAN PRIDE IN THE WORLD, WITH THE SHOW ON CANALE 5 HAVE DEMONSTRATED THEIR DUCTILITY, IN THE FACE OF CERTAIN PRESS…..
Yesterday evening on Canale 5 the first of two special evenings full of guests was broadcast, recorded at the Verona Arena, starring IL VOLO.
From La cura di Battiato with Irama to Celine Dion, from Sergio Endrigo to Mia Martini, from the duet on Shallow with Annalisa up to the classical lyrical repertoire, the Italian trio that the whole world loves, and that some Italian journalists snub or boo, has shown flexibility, talent and love for our tradition… which is not something old but tradition, roots and history.

And this news has just been published by I POOH:

AMAZING NEWS

AFTER THE GREAT SUCCESS of the show where we were guests of 3 INCREDIBLE guys, we decided to return the favor, and to invite Il Volo to two unmissable live events in stadiums this summer: July 6th at the G. Meazza Stadium in Milan and on July 15 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca, SEE YOU ON STAGE! 😊

WOW WOW WOW 😊
Well, I have nothing more to add. I await your comments and if you want clarification, please ask me.
And now I’m waiting for Saturday to fully review my rainy evening!!
Daniela 🤗

  1. They are the best. I grew up in the Elvis era as much as I, as a pre teen loved him I really was never a fan to follow or love any one like I do with Il Volo. They are the most remarkably talented young men I have ever heard. Everything they do is spectacular, the comedy that is entwined with each performance is great it adds so much more to what they do. I don’t know what is wrong with the Italian press or what they have against our guys, fortunately there are millions of us around the world that sing praises for them. They are the most humble , talented and loving guys out there.i wish them the best life has to offer. Be safe.

    1. Maureen, I completely agree with you…..they are my first also and my kids worry that I’m too obsessed!…. I don’t think so, just late to the party! They are the best and as for journalists who ignore or bad mouth IL VOLO, it’s their loss….small minds! Carol

  2. Dear Daniela,
Thank you so much for all your work to tell us about the concert! By any chance, do you know what time( USA FLORIDA) the next show will be on this coming Saturday the 3rd of June? I finally have access to canale5 and hope to watch it!

      1. Carol, I moved to The Villages a year and a half ago, but lived in Sarasota since 1990. Would love to meet somehow–I always enjoy your comments.

    1. Hi Nina, actually I can tell you that here in Italy it will be 21:20 that it will be on air, I hope it will be useful to you and I hope you can see it, then my comments will also arrive.

  3. Thank you SO much for the article and translations- as a beginner in the Italian language it’s sometimes hard to keep up with them!🥰🥰 know you spent hours on this so BIG thank you!🙏🙏🙏 just love them and their antics!!😂 so blessed to be a part of this family💖💖💖💖

    1. Thank you for the fabulous concert and translations I really enjoyed it,. The guys were great !

  4. Like always I looked forward to your comments on this Concert. I had seen it but didn’t know what went on when they talked. Thanks to your translation, it was nice to know what their conversations were about. A fabulous concert! But then I think all of their concerts are fabulous! Keep up your tremendous tales of our boys ( now men) and their travels we enjoy them very much.

  5. Thank you Daniela, the translations are much appreciated. I have seen some of the concert already, mostly individual pieces, 80% of which were Piero’s offerings. Words fail me on how fantastic he is, but then you already know that!

I love Il Pullover, although I thought the Italian word for pullover is maglione. Maybe adding ‘le’ makes a difference?

The only downside for me in what I have seen anyway, is the camera. There have been times when I felt a touch of the ‘mal de mer’.

    Roz

    1. Roz, Piero was perfect that evening and you will see tomorrow too!!
For us, a sweater is understood more as a heavy garment, often also understood as a turtleneck, however thickly worked, instead a pullover is understood as those light sweaters without a collar that are used over shirts and also under jackets. That piece of the pullover is fun, isn’t it?

  6. I loved the concert and glad that you translated the commentary because I just forwarded through it since I couldn’t understand them. The only thing I have negative to say about the concert is the guys outfits. I don’t know who picked them out but they were not good – especially the suit on Ignazio. The guys are normally attired beautifully but not in this case. I will always love listening to the guys and watching them.
Thank you for your commentary as always.

    1. I have tried not to post negative comments, but I do agree with you when it comes to Ignazio. I wonder what he was thinking when he came up with that getup!

I quite liked Gianluca’s leather gear. I thought it was in keeping with his persona.

As for Piero. Nothing wrong with what he was wearing was there? I did read something about the length of his trousers, but I wasn’t looking at them! 😉

      Roz

      1. Roz, I agree for Ignazio and Gianluca, the wrong thing in Piero’s clothing was the showy white rose on the collar of his jacket

      2. Oh, come on now Roz! Of course you were watching Piero! It’s a wonder you even recognized there were other people on stage! Just a little ribbing from your Canadian pal.

I do agree that Igna’s suit looked like it was from a thrift shop for oversized gentlemen. And, those white socks with a dark suit, no matter what size the suit was, is certainly a NO NO! Gianluca would never commit that faux pas, not my boy!!! Hugs, Dol

    2. Yes, Gina, I agree on the boys’ clothes, in particular Ignazio’s, unfortunately they will also wear the same clothes for tomorrow’s concert. Oh well, we will endure!!

  7. Thank you ,thank you Daniela. Once again you have given your time to us fans, of Il Volo to translate their latest concert. It was so wonderful to see and hear the different ways that each of the guys interpreted their choice of solo songs. A wonderful concert and now ,something else to look forward to ,the concerts with Pooh. Many thanks again.

    1. Marion, I think they have chosen beautiful songs, both for solos and duets and you will also hear those from the second concert, all very beautiful.

  8. WOW WOW…. I can’t think of another comment that covers that amazing concert! I appreciate all your hard work doing all the translations, I do love listening to them banter back and forth…never a rude or hurtful comment! I’d like to see less Theatrics from Gianluca he always exudes so much passion in his voice, it isn’t necessarily and doesn’t seem to fit with him….but I guess that’s how he feels it so it’s really his judgement. Igna’s outfit??? He’s become fit so why dress frumpy!! No judgement just curious. As far as I’m concerned our “boys” can do no wrong, I will always love them even if they wore sack cloth!
Hopefully I will get to a concert in Italy…Verona or Taoromina maybe to celebrate my 80th birthday next February!🙏🏻
Grateful to you and Pat, Carol❤️☮️🎼🎤🎶

  9. Viviane
    Le 1er Juin 2023 20h24
Thank you very much Daniela for this complete account of these two concerts in Verona that I will never forget we were my husband and I at the concert on May 3 and luckier than that of May 1 since the rain was not there! and in this regard i admired the perseverance of the fans who stayed to listen to them until the end it proves the love for his three wonderful boys that the whole world feels!!! We came from Brittany to France to see this concert!!! thank you again dear Daniela I love reading you !!!

    1. Viviane, thanks for the compliments, I know well from Maura, that you would have come to the concert, your first concert, but it was May 3rd and we were there on May 1st. Too bad we could have met, but the rain wouldn’t have allowed it anyway.

  10. Oh thank you Daniela for keeping us informed. We all love the posts and feel honored that you spend the time to keep people involved. Hugs and kisses from Minnesota.
    Victoria

  11. You are absolutely the Best ⭐️ for sharing this! LOVED the Granada opening!

Thank you so much for giving us this gift (full concert)! Always fun and moving.

Your summary adds so much to fully appreciate this experience for non-Italian speakers!
    Gracie! Gracie! ❤️🤗🙏

    1. Thanks Chicago Love! You must know that when the concert with GRANADA started I thought “didn’t they say they would amaze us?”, as this song has been part of their repertoire for years ……. but what a great idea to propose it in three different styles , really great.

  12. So that’s what they were saying!! Grazie mille, Daniela, for helping us to understand and enjoy this incredible concert. And yes, the drone shots of the arena were breathtaking, as were the rear projection screens. And the guys–they are truly at the top of their game!

    1. You are right Judi, the drone shots are truly breathtaking, who knows if there are any from the rainy concert too, we will see soon.

      1. The raininess reminds me of when Princess Diana watched Pavoratti in the rain. Not sure if that was before your time, it was in the early 90’s.

  13. Thanks a million Daniela and Pat for this very informative article on the first of the Canale 5 TV transmissions from the Verona concerts. In spite of being there together with you on May 1st in the rain 😋👍❤️ – and by now having watched the video twice – I do really first by now get the fully impact and understanding of the concerts due to your fine translations of intros, interviews and jokes and not the least the added names of the songs performed and intro of the Italian artists. I do realize by now that I’ve missed out of a lot not understanding Italian and not being familiar with the guest artists, so your report has been extremely helpful to me and given the experience yet another facet. I do finally fully comprehend it all and understands and appreciate this brilliant idea and initiative of Michel Torpedine. And given the invited artists a second and third watch they seem actually much better and more interesting than I recall from the very night in the rain where my attention was primarily on our boys – so now I do appreciate them in a different way.

Thanks also for posting the comments from some of the Italian artists and various media. I truly don’t understand the Italian music critics – how can they not be proud of Il Volo? They are an asset to the country and should be applauded for not only their beautiful voices and high level of performance – they are likewise innovative while at the same time bringing the traditional songs and culture of Italy to new audiences and age groups all over the world. Well, at this stage of their career they don’t need the praise from same any longer as they have the praise of millions of fans all over the world which has much more value – we are there for them. But it is unbelievable that it can go on… the guys have proven themselves over and over and over again.

Anyhow – I cannot wait for the second show to air and for your comments and translations of same.
    Warm regards – Kirsten, Denmark🇩🇰

    1. Kirsten, you are obviously a glutton for punishment! First freezing to death in December, now getting thoroughly soaked. Honestly, what are we going to do with you! 😉

The reason the Italian press are against Il Volo is one that Evans Tonon (The Italian Tenors) mentioned several years ago. The press don’t like it when their own leave the country for pastures new. It doesn’t matter how successful they are, they are just never forgiven.

      Roz

      1. I don’t think it’s just this Roz, our boys are men now, but when they were 15, they didn’t deserve to be railed by the Italian press.

    2. Kirsten, I told you that when you fully understand what was going on and also the lyrics of the chosen songs, you would appreciate everything more, they are like little pieces that make everything fit better.
As far as the Italian press is concerned, unfortunately it does not deny itself this time either. In any case I am very satisfied with the comments of ordinary people who still continue today and we are on Friday, tomorrow there will be the other concert (ours) and the comments have never stopped WOW really wonderful all this affection!!

      1. It’s just a personal observation, Daniela, but I think the Italian press would be happier if our boys were snorting cocaine, getting into all kinds of trouble and fights, leaving their families heart-broken, etc., so the PRESS could have something to put in their rag papers. Nice people don’t seem to get the same publicity — nor do they really want it.

As Ignazio sings — Our hearts will go on!
        Hugs, Dol

      2. Sometimes I think like you Dolores, maybe nice guys who talk about affection and family are no longer in fashion, good things don’t attract, we’ve all become morbid for the ugly and the bad.

  14. Simply wonderful.. we English speaking fans can’t thank you enough for this .. it breaks my heart that the Italian press did not cover this concert because the rest of us did & we only look poorly on the press for passing them by

    1. Trudy, the press has made a fool of itself several times with our boys, but I always hope that there is a repentance, in reality a step has been taken, at least now they don’t write anything, before they filled them with not exactly flattering comments.

      1. Daniela, I would think that all those other very popular Italian artists on the show would have expected that a program like that would be covered by the press, and would also not be pleased!

      2. Judi, on the other hand I would have liked the press to ask the other singers and also Federica Panicucci, how it was working with Il Volo, because apart from the Pooh, Gianna Nannini and Panariello, it was the first time for the others to work with the our boys.

  15. Thank you Daniela for the translations. It makes it so nice to understand what’s being said. It was such a beautiful concert. For the guys to put so much emotion and passion into each song for three hours is testament to their unique talents and stamina. So many of the songs were so touching, especially the Hallelujah and Girotondo Intorno Al Mondo. I don’t know of any other performers who can sing as many different types of music as they do and do it so well. I look forward to the next concert.

    1. Cathy, they really used very meaningful songs, we’ve heard Hallelujah several times lately, but GIROTONDO INTORNO AL MONDO it’s been years since we heard it here in Italy and I give credit to them for bringing it back to light it’s really beautiful and meaningful, moreover it was also the way to remember a very good singer-songwriter Sergio Endrigo, who here in Italy hardly anyone remembers anymore. Congratulations to Il Volo.

  16. Dear Daniela and Pat. you are too good to us. Thank you thank you for putting this article together! The translations are so thoughtful. What a beautiful concert. And i’m so glad to see more Italian artists. i love music from all over the world, new and traditional stuff. And needless to say I ❤️ Il Volo! xoxo

    1. Amy, I’m glad you enjoyed the guest singers. Actually when it was said that there would be guests, I read so many negative comments and also from long-time fans, but I was sure that it was the way to make our three stars shine even more: Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio .

      1. I agree. it is their chance to show us they are 3 unique artists in their own right. When he channels Elvis, Gianluca is something else; he is soooo good. When he sings arias, Piero is in his element and it’s always epic. And Ignazio is smokin’ hot no matter what he does. I think it also helps us to let go of the 3 beautiful boys who were child prodigies and embrace them as artists. And i’m not in Italy but i hope it helps the Italian public who weren’t fans before at least acknowledge their talent and that they are relevant as artists. And that’s my Op Ed piece for today hahaha Thank you again for this article and for sharing the concert link. i really enjoyed both!

  17. Absolutly awesome. I loved every minute. Can’t wait to see them again. Hopefully. They are just awesome. When they do hallelujah. And when Ignazio did My Heart will go on. Just amazing. I hope he always keeps that solo he was phenomenal. As they all were but he just soars above to me❤️❤️❤️

    1. Angela, their voices are always more beautiful, and this time they performed magnificent and unusual songs in their program. They played and won.

  18. Awesome effort, Daniela! Thank you and your team for all the work you do!

I watched this concert in full on YouTube and loved it ! Reading the dialogue and learning the lyrics (thanks to you) enhanced it so much more! Three hours on stage, wow!

The clothes were a distraction: Piero looked suave as usual but the other two, as someone said, could use a tailor/stylist. Piero choose to wear almost invisible glasses which worked so much better in that tv venue than before (heavy dark rimmed glasses put an unflattering shadow on his face).

The only distraction was the awful rain you had to endure. The boys were real pros to persevere and the audience showed its loyalty to them in return.

    1. Yes Sally, three intense hours of concert and believe me, very little was cut from the TV, everything remained as it was, too good to undergo TV cuts, long, it’s true, but time flew by.

  19. Thank you Thank you Daniela and Pat for the translation and posting of this brilliant concert. I have watched it twice now and love it more each time. Just when I think they cannot top their last performance, they present an incredible evening like this one. Their solos, duets and group songs all just beautiful, and we got to see a lot more of our guys than was anticipated. I so admire their talent, energy, passion and stamina to be able to sing, chat and be totally charming for 3 hours. They are indeed at the top of their game, and shame on the local Italian critics for not giving them appropriate credit. I look forward to hopefully seeing them again next year somewhere. cheers!

    1. Janet, I knew you would like it, especially their memory of the people who have left us always touches my heart, and it surely must have touched you too. I hope to see you again here in the Arena.

  20. Thank you so much, Daniela, for this lengthy report. I was at both concerts ( I think the first concert will forever be known as the “rainy concert”), but I’ve had a hard time recalling what happened when and which songs were sung in what order, etc. Your translation of the TV show is wonderful and the complete list of songs puts the concert in order. I feel I now know more about the guests and their talents and contributions. Kirsten said it all so well, I totally agree with her. Oh, and the song “E Lucevan le Stelle” has been my favorite ever since the first time I heard it, not knowing who sang it on the CD of Notte Magica. Grazie mille!

    1. Thank you Majia, knowing exactly what was said and understanding the songs, makes those who were present enjoy the show more, myself, translating for you, I appreciate more the things that have sometimes escaped me. The only regret is that we could not meet, really a pity, but I hope for a next meeting.

  21. Thanks a lot Daniela and Pat for translating and posting this beautiful report. Now I will watch the concert once again and will know much more what they are talking about. I’m also waiting eagerly
for the reminiscence of the most beautiful wet over three hours in my life. Grazie mille
Daniela ti auguro buona Festa della Republica

    1. You’re welcome, Jolanta. I can’t wait to hear about your concert in Poland! 😊

    2. Jolanta, can you believe me that I can’t wait to see our ” rainy ” concert? In the meantime, I tell you that your email is now from Pat who is working on it!!

  22. Have been waiting patiently for your article concerning the amazing, amazing concert. I have watched it three times and can’t get enough of these three, they are the best. The Italian press that snub them must be so jealous of them or else they are just plain dumb to ignore such talent. Don’t need their opinion, millions love them and that is enough for us fans. Great job as usual Daniela and Pat. Looking forward to 2nd concert. Hoping that they will returning to the U.S. in 2024.

  23. Thank you very much for the beatyful report from the concert. I will be waiting impatiently for the video and report from the second part becouse in my country on the Mediaset International Cannel this beatyful concert is not available. Thank you again.

    1. It wasn’t available here in the UK either. I ended up contacting the help desk. Roberto couldn’t really help me, other than to explain to me how to remove my subscription. It wasn’t easy trying to translate his questions and replies, and my questions and replies. They only do the help in Italian, so Google Translate became my friend! 😉

      Roz

    2. Mariad, you have little to wait for tomorrow evening there will be the second concert and then I hope to be quick to give you the details of the evening.

  24. Thank you for all your work Daniela and Pat.
What a wonderful show they put on. They keep stretching themselves.
One little detail was that Gianluca likes to read books. I wish I knew what he is interested in. I’m a reader too and I notice in public that cell phones have mostly replaced books when people are waiting for something.

    1. Gal, Gianluca reads a lot and all kinds of books, even those we call “bricks”, i.e. heavy essays. But he loves to read the paper book, often while travelling, he frames the books he is reading.

  25. Gosh!! – I am totally amazed & humbled by your love for the Boys & their fans!! – Pat & Daniela – no words are good enough to express how grateful I am to hear from you girls – always newsy – always honest & so much work!! – always appreciative of what you do – loved the concert – much love.

    1. Jude, thank you very much for your beautiful compliments, there is so much love around our boys, because they know how to make themselves loved.

  27. I hope it’s not too late to get another comment in. While our fine young gentlemen are deciding which songs to sing, I wonder why Piero doesn’t due a solo of “Where to I Begin” from the movie Love Story??? Or, does it remind him too much of his own love story with Valentine Allegri???

He does such a magnificent job of that song, it even compares to his singing solo operatic arias. I get goosepimples each time I hear him sing that song. Think about it, Piero, and make an old lady very happy! Hugs, Dol.

    1. Dolores, I think that song, although beautiful, is not part of a classical operatic repertoire, which Piero showed a lot in this concert. Surely Piero will sing it again, it’s a beautiful song and the people always like it. He will accommodate you.

    2. My goodness! what mistakes I made in that posting!!! Why Piero doesn’t “due” s/b do a solo; and Where “to” I Begin? I think I should begin by rereading my comments for mistakes!
      🙂 Dol

  28. I agree with Dolores on the special standout of Piero.
As Opera Season starts in July, I can’t help thinking
of the opera audience that have heard Piero and
wish him success in opera as we all do. Bravo!
As always, thanks to Daniela and Pat.

    1. Martha, don’t be so lenient with the comments of the opera-loving public, it is the most jealous public and does not admit people who have not studied at the conservatory, I think Piero will have many opera-loving people against him.

  29. What a beautiful and powerful concert full of wonderful emotions, bravo, sending much love from Melbourne Australia ❤️

  30. I was remiss in not thanking you, Daniela, and Patti for another exceptional posting. Also, to compliment you on your graciousness in replying to every note to you from each Il Volover who writes a comment. THANK YOU! Hugs, Dol.

    1. Oh Dolores, you are too kind! 💓 I am so happy to be able to help Daniela bring all the IL VOLO news to everyone. 😊

    2. Thank you Dolores, it is you who are always very kind and very sweet towards us and you appreciate everything we write.

  31. I was ecstatic when I saw that you included the translations of their conversations at the concert. I watched the YouTube version of the concert last night… extraordinary performance! What a lasting memory! Thank you so much for your continued efforts in keeping us informed.
