Il Volo In Taormina, July 20, 21 and A Tale Of Two Photos

“Piero Barone Il Volo @piero_barone May 22 July 20th and 21st Teatro Greco di Taormina !!!”

Tickets may still be available for Il Volo’s Taormina concert as well as for the concerts in Pescara and Napoli!  Here is the link for those still considering a last minute trip to Taormina!  Obviously you have a little more time to decide to attend a concert in Pescara or Napoli!

Speaking of Taormina, I have been looking at Piero’s photos of Italia.  On May 22, 2014 he tweeted the first picture of the Teatro Greco above. I posted the other one  I took a while back. Do you notice anything about the two?  I just realized that, apparently, Piero and I stood in almost exactly the same spot to take these shots!  Only his picture includes more of a wall on the left where there is a sign to none other than the “Teatro Greco di Taormina!!!” as he put it in his tweet.  How did I miss getting that sign in my picture?!?  It is obviously a different time of the year too, in my photo a gorgeous flowering plant is blooming, I was there in early July!

I am almost certain we have a photo shot by MN in this same spot where Piero is standing in a previous Taormina post!  I so totally agree with Piero, “I’m in love with Taormina” too!    Those of you going or are already there – ENJOY and let us know all about your adventures!   Grazie!   Michele  ( mfa and mfazzara)

Taormina  The Greek-Roman Theatre   “Is it Greek or Roman? This is a question that has always been open to debate among experts and critics. All their disputes would end if they remembered Taormina’s origins as a Greek “Polis” and the fact that each and every ancient Greek town had its own Theatre where they performed tragedies by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides and comedies by Aristophanes, just to name the most famous authors. The Theatre in Taormina is the second-largest in Sicily after the one in Siracusa. All the Romans did later, in accordance with their well-known ostentatious nature, was enlarge the theatre as it was very small. And it apparently took decades to build. It is fifty metres wide, one hundred and twenty metres long and twenty metres high, which means that about 100,000 cubic metres of stone had to be removed. Further evidence that the Theatre is of Greek origin is in the well-cut bricks of Taormina stone (similar to marble) below the scene of the Theatre; these are a typical example of the ancient Greek building technique. The theatre is divided into three main sections: the scene, the orchestra and the cavea. The scene is opposite the cavea and is obviously where the actors used to perform.” To read more click  http://www.taormina.it/

News – Il Volo 2014 Tour from “Incontro Boschetto-Amadé: Domani Il Concerto”

Il Volo in Concert

Il Volo In Concert – We Are Love 2013

 Newspaper “Marsalac’è”

The article above was written to promote the February 2, 2014 – Amadé-Boschetto concert at the Teatro Empire, but it reveals exciting news about Il Volo’s 2014 Concert Tour. Thanks to MN (mlla) for bringing this to our attention!

Here is the news from the newspaper Marsalac’è:  “Adesso lo attende un tour di promozione del loro ultimo disco in Giappone, Australia ed Europa; in Italia ci saranno solo 5 tappe del tour e probabilmente una di queste sara a Taormina.”

As translated by Bing: “Now awaits a tour promoting their latest album in Japan, Australia and Europe; in Italy there are only 5 stages of the tour and probably one of these will be in Taormina.”

Now I know online translators are not completely accurate, yet there is enough information for me to believe the rumors of a tour in Europe, Australia and Japan in 2014.  To me, the most exciting news is that Il Volo may perform in as many as 5 concerts in Italy, with Sicily’s Taormina possibly being one of them.  I have been to Taormina and like almost everywhere I went in Italy, I LOVED IT!   Il Volo could be singing in the Greek Theatre, that would be heavenly!  I checked the Taormina Events Calendar 2014 at the link below but do not see Il Volo listed — yet!
