Personally Speaking ~ Il Volo Body Language ~

Body language is defined as movements (as with hands) or posture used as a means of communication.

It is interesting to look back at photos from the past seven years and see just how fluent in this type of language the guys have become.  Their ability to speak and sing in various languages impresses us all.  They are Italian so speaking with their hands comes naturally to them!  But they go beyond this form of communication on a regular basis which is one of the many reasons we love to see them perform.  They are so animated and expressive it adds so much enjoyment to the whole experience!  Even when not on stage they continue to  shine and entertain with their personalities and distinctive mannerisms.  They don’t have to practice this as it isn’t an act…it’s who they are!

Three young guys singing as solos in competitions since they were very small.  Already you can see how comfortable they were becoming with each other…like old friends, but they really had not known each other for long.

All ready to go out and conquer North America and then the rest of the world!  You can see their innocent determination even in these young faces.

They start becoming more comfortable with who they are individually as well as a group.

Each one with their own unique style conveys a powerful message to us through body language.

They are maturing in every way (even though their body language does not always show it) and speaking to us with every move.

They now  show us the more reserved side of themselves when performing with and standing along side Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo and at the Christmas program at St. Francis Basilica.  They have grown into sophisticated  young men with such style and grace.

Compelled ~ Jane and Marie

When Ignazio shakes a hand and touches it to his forehead is that Ignazio or is it Italian?

When Piero opens his arms wide and invites all of us in for the sincerest of hugs, is that a Piero thing or merely another endearing Italian gesture?

When Gianluca’s eyes look to the side at the same time giving us a giant, heart wrenching grin, is it just his way or because he grew up in a small Italian village?

Italy!  Does it raise all its children to be humble, talented and beautiful?  Was Italy even there before The Three placed it in our hearts?  Was the food, culture and people always in existence or just newly amassed due to three of their warmest sons?

italy

Well…Jane and I have to know.  So we’re going to find out for ourselves!  We will be leaving mid October and returning (so our tickets say) early November.   In between we have plans to visit cities such as Venice, eat Italian food, Assisi, eat Italian food, Pompeii, eat Italian food, and eat pizza in Marsala.

We have to go partly because of the beautiful pictures you’ve shared with us and the amazing stories you have told.   Also because a love for that country has grown inside us through some pretty nice music and three pretty wonderful guys.  We are compelled to experience the food, embrace the landscape and stroll with the people.  In actuality we will probably eat too much food, get lost in the landscape and annoy the people.  But…we’re going anyway!

Please wish us viaggio sicuro e felice.

Personally Speaking ~ La Passeggiata ~

Passeggiata-Night-Time

La Passeggiata:  An Italian Tradition

Let’s all do as the Italians do as day softens into dusk in Italy, something in the air seems to tug people from their homes and work places to take part in one of the enduring traditions of Italian life: La passeggiata.

This evening promenade, generally between 5 and 8 PM, happens in virtually every town, village or big city in Italy.

Andiamo a fare qualche vasca!  (Which literally means, Let’s go do some laps), Italians say to one another.  This ritual involves much more than strolling to and fro.479156_orig

During the week, the passeggiata marks the end of the workday and is a time to socialize  before the family dinner. On Saturday and Sunday, the passeggiata often becomes the main social event of the day, when entire families take to the streets.

The most important thing, it seems, is simply seeing and being seen.

Attracting the most attention are young women of marriageable age.  This is a socially sanctioned opportunity for flirting and courting.

The passeggiata reinforces a sense of belonging.  The greeting of friends and acquaintances, the sharing of gossip, and the latest news weave everyone into the human fabric of the community.

In some cities, people dress to impress or at least to show how well life has been treating them.  Shirts are pressed; jeans if worn, are stylish.  Older folks sit along the route, on a bench or nursing a beer or glass of wine, and watching for things to gossip about; La passeggiata is where new romances and new babies are on display as well as new shoes.  Folks of all ages take part, from the youngest babies to the oldest members of the community who take it all in from the sidelines.

If you’re out and about in the early evening, you may become part of a passeggiata whether you intend to or not.  Walk slowly.  Stop for a gelato or an aperitivo.  And don’t be surprised if, after a while, you start feeling that you too belong.

passeggiata-long

This is yet another beautiful Italian tradition that makes me want to BE ITALIAN!   Our world might be a better place if we all took the time to be with one another in peace, strolling along enjoying each other and life.

Just be sure and be on the look out for any one of these three to be strolling along a street in Montepagano, Marsala or Naro!   If you see one, offer to buy them a cool gelato and sit a moment with you.  Guaranteed best La passeggiata of your life!

Personally Speaking ~ The Art of Fan Seduction ~

Thank you, Gary Istok
Thank you, Gary Istok

Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio have conquered the ART OF FAN SEDUCTION long ago!

13592338_830281930435063_3289963162029633068_n

To SUCCUMB…to yield to superior strength or force or overpowering appeal or desire.  Even Liliana, Michele’s sister ( with arms around Piero!)  and friends have joined the many fans who have experienced the overpowering appeal of these guys!

13718597_835223276607595_172565365906816889_n

When they are not enticing us all  on stage with those beautiful voices,  they work the crowd like pros during the Meet and Greets.  And it isn’t an act…they are as genuine as they come across, ALL OF THE TIME.

13658911_835223266607596_1542802581222381207_n

Always taking turns of course like the true gentlemen they are, but I think Ignazio is keeping track of how long that hug lasts so he gets the same!

Never leaving one to feel left out.  What goes around…comes around.

With children taking top priority!  All three guys just melt into puddles when the little ones appear.

What the world needs now is pure love and joy like these three give so freely to all who cross their path.

Yes, Gianluca, hearing your incredible voices is how you  gained your first music fans.  And now through the years you guys sure know how to get music fans and keep them from all over the world!  You all have that seductive quality about you  just by being Italian, but you add those extraordinary voices to the package and LOOK OUT!

Personally Speaking ~ Power and Pride ~

13592822_10201616574132311_82605037541860127_n

WHAT A POWERFUL PICTURE!

Combine the talent, experience,  grace, maturity, style, vocal strength, charisma, intelligence, individual uniqueness, friendship, trust, respect and common goodness of each of these individuals and you have a powerhouse beyond compare!

Maestro Placido Domingo is already a legend in his time with Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio now becoming legends all of their own along with this great man.

The PRIDE they all must feel in their hearts following the historical concert they gave in Florence is so well deserved.  Placido, Michele, their parents and all of us who hold them in the highest esteem are filled with more love and admiration for the distinguished performance given.  They reached new unparalleled heights with every breathtaking note and song.  It was truly a mesmerizing experience to behold.  I literally could not take my eyes or ears off of them. Their voices coalesced with such beauty and control at times and individually brought tears to my eyes when singing solo.

What an enchanted evening it was!
