“At the end of the sound check, when they were saying see you tonight, I called out “Buon anniversario! Diciassette anni oggi!” ….and Piero immediately got excited, smiled and said…”Oh yes, that’s right! It is today and started talking to us about it! So here is the short video during the Concert about their anniversary! ❤️❤️❤️”

E PIÙ TI PENSO with Maura Nava

And finally, another nice and funny interview by USA TODAY Entertainment, preceded by a nice video with Ralphie Aversa.

Il Volo on advice from Andrea Bocelli. Why Pope Leo is their favorite.

NEW YORK – When the three singers of Il Volo left Italy for the United States to sign a record deal, it was the first time any of the then-teenagers had visited the country. It was 2009, and the trio signed with Geffen Records. At the time, Geffen and its sister labels housed the likes of 50 Cent, Eminem, Maroon 5 and the Black Eyed Peas, and those groups topped charts with hip-hop, pop and dance songs.
Still, Il Volo stuck to its goal of bringing bel canto (beautiful singing) to a global audience and they never considered the idea that they could potentially switch genres.
“We don’t want to be a copy of someone who does it better than us,” Gianluca Ginoble, 31, tells USA TODAY alongside his groupmates Piero Barone, 32, and Ignazio Boschetto, 31. “We are operatic pop singers. It’s like asking the Black Eyed Peas to sing ‘Nessun dorma.’“
The reference is an aria from the final act of the Italian opera “Turandot.” The solo song has been used in a number of films and it was performed by Andrea Bocelli at the opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. The trio says they have a “great” relationship with the Italian tenor, who they all count as an inspiration.
And yes, Bocelli has even offered the three younger vocalists some advice on what to do both on and off stage.
“The best advice he gave us? Eat the pasta, but with the ancient grains,” Barone reveals as the guys laugh. Ancient grain pasta is an alternative to modern wheat and can be easier to digest. “If you eat the pasta with ancient grains, you are not going to suffer with jet lag, you’re not going to suffer before a concert. Since I personally ate ancient grain pasta, my life changed completely.”

Il Volo on touring the U.S. and meeting Pope Leo XIV

Il Volo is in the middle of a spring tour in the U.S. that runs until May 2. The operatic pop trio revealed exclusively to USA TODAY that they’ll return to North America this fall for additional dates on their world tour. The eight-city trek kicks off Nov. 10 in Hollywood, Florida, and wraps Nov. 21 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
However, Il Volo jokes that while in the U.S., the group may not be looking to find the best restaurants that serve ancient grain pasta.
“Bring me to something typical here, right?” Boschetto says. “When you come to Italy, I’m not going to tell you, ‘Let’s do a beautiful barbecue,’ because (Americans) are better than us at that.”
The trio has a few more food hot takes up their sleeves: no pineapple on pizza and “shorter” (smaller) coffees. But as for performing on stage, Ginoble says the group is “really happy to be back on tour” and will be backed by a “big orchestra.”
In between their strings of dates in North America, Il Volo will play a number of shows back in Italy this summer. In August 2025, the group performed in Rome for Pope Leo XIV during the Catholic Jubilee celebration. Barone remembers a cardinal introducing the group to Pope Leo before their performance.
“‘Oh, I know them. I’ve listened since 15 years ago to your music,’” Barone recalls the pope saying as he shook their hands. “He’s my favorite.”
I’d say the Texas leg also went very well. A few more days and they’ll be ready for the final three concerts.
What about Maestro Grani, who, as you’ve seen, conducts all the concerts?
Congratulations, Maestro! Our guys can rest easy with you!
See you soon for the final dates:

GLEANINGS by Daniela

We titled this post “Gleanings” because it covers various news and videos that have occurred since mid-July and that I haven’t reported.
On July 16th, Il Volo was invited to cover an event organized by the San Donato Group (the group operates in the healthcare sector and is the largest private hospital group in Italy), titled SUMMER NIGHT 2025.
Here is an excerpt from the article published in “Fortune Health Italia,” a healthcare publication.
“A special evening to recognize ‘bridge builders’ working across the Mediterranean. Last night, at Villa Miani in Rome, the 2025 Summer Dinner, promoted annually by Gruppo San Donato, GKSD, and Ecam Council, returned. This event highlighted the international commitment of one of the historic ‘seven sisters’ of healthcare, but also presented a series of awards to individuals committed to fostering growth and spreading health and well-being across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The musical group ‘Il Volo’ was greeted with great enthusiasm, donating their entire fee to the non-profit foundation of the San Donato Group, GSD Foundation ETS, and to the Ale & Franz and Friends Onlus Association.”
Guys, we never had any doubts about your generosity, but once again our hearts are filled with pride.
After this event, our guys returned to their families for a short vacation and delighted us with some of their photos:

PIERO:

GIANLUCA:

IGNAZIO:

And then August arrived, bringing us the beautiful Evento of the Youth Jubilee, of which I attach just a few photos.
I’d like to introduce you to the Popes Il Volo knew:

Pope Francis

Pope Leone XIV

With the Youth Jubilee now over, we all thought Ignazio Piero and Gianluca were enjoying a well-deserved break.
It’s August, the height of the holiday season in Italy, but Il Volo still has time to attend one more event.
Issa Resort inauguration on August 6th in Romania. Here are some short videos and photos from the evening.

And then there’s two pieces of news: the first is that the video of the concert at the Valley of the Temples will be released on August 29st, so it’s already available to order.

On September 30th, the Verona Arena will host a commemoration of Luciano Pavarotti, who would have turned 90.
Il Volo will also be participating in the event!!
And finally, a well-deserved August break. It’s been a very hot August here, and I hope Piero, Gianluca, and Ignazio also enjoy a wonderful holiday, even though for Ignazio and Michelle it will all be preparations for Gabriele’s imminent arrival.
Have a great summer everyone!!!

IL VOLO TO THE JUBILEE 2025 by Daniela

The good news that Il Volo would be participating in the Youth Jubilee was released directly from the Vatican press room.
The Youth Jubilee 2025 is a event that took place in Rome, Italy, from July 28 to August 3, 2025, on the occasion of the Great Jubilee of 2025. The event was announced by Pope Francis during the closing Mass of World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon.
Here’s the announcement of the Il Volo presence at the Jubilee.
“…..There will be the three young Italians from Il Volo, now known throughout the world.”
The Youth Jubilee is a wonderful event held as part of the Holy Year 2025. It is a large gathering of young people from around the world, united by faith, prayer, and the hope for a better world, a very significant moment in these dark times.
The event took place in Tor Vergata, on the outskirts of Rome.
Pope Leo XIV joined the young people by helicopter and celebrated a Mass for them.
Il Volo sang two beautiful songs during this event, one upon the Pope’s arrival and one at the close of the Mass.
Upon arrival, the Pope drove among the young people in the Popemobile, greeted with enthusiasm.
After the Popemobile ride, the Pope disembarked, was given a cross, and proceeded on foot, followed by many young people, toward the altar where Mass was celebrated.
During this journey, Il Volo and the entire Vatican choir and orchestra performed the beautiful Jubilee Hymn, “Pilgrims of Hope.”

Then the mass began, during which many strong messages were given to the young people.
“Seek the truth passionately. Build a more humane world. Friendship can be the path to peace.”
“Do not quench your thirst with ineffective substitutes. We are not made for a life where everything is predictable and fixed, but for an existence that is constantly regenerated through giving, through love.”

“Fragility is part of the wonder that we are.”
“As you return to your countries in the coming days, throughout the world, continue to walk joyfully in the footsteps of the Savior, and infect everyone you meet with your enthusiasm and the witness of your faith! Have a good journey!”
At the end of the mass, Il Volo sang the beautiful MAGNIFICAT in Latin with the entire choir.
The Pope thanked all them for the beautiful musical accompaniment, and then he told the young people to rest well and he expects them there the next day for Holy Mass.
The event is over, it was filled with emotion.
Now I’ll share with you some moments from the Magnificat, captured from another perspective.

And here during the rehearsals.

But the meeting with the Pope was not just this evening because in the afternoon all the artists were received in St. Peter’s by Pope Leo.
The Pope to the artists: “For me it is a privilege, a blessing to be able to participate in this mission, in this service, as Bishop of Rome, as Holy Father, knowing above all the faith, enthusiasm, and joy we share and which gives voice to what we have in our hearts, and which is above all the desire to find happiness, joy, love; to experience faith also with the gifts the Lord has given us: music, dance, and the many artistic forms that you will share this afternoon with the young people.”
During the Pope’s journey in the popemobile towards the altar, television cameras roamed among the audience and even briefly captured Gianluca, Claudia and Torpedine, here they are!

And now I offer you the beautiful text of the Jubilee Hymn, sung at the beginning by Il Volo.
PILGRIMS OF HOPE (lyrics by Pierangelo Sequieri)
Living flame of my hope,
may this song reach You!
Eternal womb of infinite life,
on my journey I trust in You.
Every language, people, and nation
finds light in your Word.
Fragile and scattered sons and daughters
are welcomed in your beloved Son.
Living flame of my hope,
may this song reach You!
Eternal womb of infinite life,
on the journey I trust in You.
God looks upon us, tender and patient:
the dawn of a new future is born.
New Heavens, a new Earth:
pass through walls, Spirit of life.
Living flame of my hope,
may this song reach You!
Eternal womb of infinite life,
on the journey I trust in You.
Lift up your eyes, move with the wind,
shorten your pace: God comes, in time.
Look at the Son who became Man:
thousands and thousands find the way.
Living flame of my hope,
let this song reach You!
Eternal womb of infinite life,
on my journey, I trust in You.

And for those who want to try singing the anthem in Italian, here’s a video with the music and lyrics.

Oh my, how exciting! I watched the entire event live and was deeply moved by the sight of such a multitude of young people from all over the world… I renewed my faith that the world can change; our future is in these young people, who are bearers of words of unity, peace, and hope!
Gianluca Piero and Ignazio were once again witnesses to this special event; their voices soared and added a special touch. The Jubilee hymn was wonderful and the very difficult Magnificat was rendered very well!
Thank you for this day of love! ❤️🙏❤️
