A YEAR WITHOUT CONCERTS by Daniela

OK, it was news that I was hoping it would not come, I had to wait a few days to make this post, because the disappointment was really great and the thing had to be metabolized.
Surely you have all already read and are aware of the news, but it seemed right to talk about it together, maybe talking about it seems less bad.

On Monday 3 May, Volomusic (the official website of Il Volo) published the news that all the Italian concerts that were scheduled for 2020 and already moved, due to the pandemic, to 2021, will be further moved to 2022.

TERRIBLE!! 😱😭

Here is the official news:
Accordingly to the current Anti Covid rules, the “10 Years – Live” tour planned for the 2021 is postponed to the next year, 2022.
All tickets already sold will be valid for the new dates.
Please find below the first confirmed dates for 2022, in agreement with the Verona Arena:
-3rd June 2022 at the Verona Arena (recovery of 29th August 2021 at the Verona Arena)
-4th June 2022 at the Verona Arena (recovery 30th August 2021 at the Verona Arena)
By Within the 15th May 2021, the new 2022 dates will be communicated for the following cities:
-Taormina (recovery of 4th and 5th September 2021)
-Turin (recovery of 16th October 16 2021)
-Rome (recovery of 20th October 2021)
-Milan (recovery of 23rd October 2021)
Thanks everyone for your support!

IL VOLO

Within minutes, the tam tam of the news had already gone around the world and I received messages to confirm the news (unfortunately) from one continent to another.
So the nice concert I had to see on August 30th will be postponed to June 3rd 2022 !! And I know of many American friends who already had tickets for Taormina 2020, moved to 2021 and now to 2022.
After having patiently waited for a whole year, and having passed a terrible winter studded with so much bad and very bad news, we began to see a light at the end of this tunnel, also thanks to the spread of vaccines, and instead our hopes were dashed.

Certainly it is not the fault of Il Volo, which is working to surprise us and which has already been denied the concert in the beautiful square in front of the Vatican in Rome, and which still does not know if the public will be present in the Arena in Verona.
It is well known that performing in front of a large festive audience gives you an incredible charge of adrenaline, it is quite another thing to perform “behind closed doors”.
So, the only opportunity here in Italy, this year, to attend a live concert of Il Volo is only that of the tribute concert to Morricone on June 4th.
The mayor of Verona is doing everything in his power to expand the number of people admitted to the concerts, from 1000 to 6000. I read his heartfelt letter that he published, asking for the support of all the government representatives of the Veneto region (where the Arena is).

Left to right: Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero singing on the Sanremo 2015 stage

On May 6, I heard the mayor himself speaking on Radio 102.5. He said that the Arena must restart and that he is responsible, not only as mayor, but also as supervisor for the Arena and therefore he says he has done everything so that there are no contagion problems and therefore he wants people to be admitted, at least 6000, and that their ticket (which will be nominative) is also proof for returning home after the hours set for the curfew (currently 10:00 pm).
Meanwhile, other news has arrived, because it has been published that on 11 May Il Volo will be in the Arena in Verona, and will record a video to announce the concert on 5 June and on that occasion they will also sing “Il canto degli italiani”, that is the Italian national anthem, which will be broadcast by RAI on 2 June, Republic Day here in Italy. Of course, the shooting in the Arena will be done without an audience (too bad).
But why was 11 May chosen to do these shots?

Special Appointment notice from Verona Arena

It is not a date chosen at random, but it is a symbolic date of a great anniversary.
On 11 May 1946, the Scala in Milan reopened to the public after the Liberation and the end of the war. Seventy-five years later, in the difficult period we all live in, the Verona Arena is fighting to reopen.
Here is the heartfelt appeal, published by the Verona Arena.
THE APPEAL – “We make this appeal with an objective, within our reach and that of our Authorities: that the Arena of Verona, in order not to die, can welcome at least 6,000 spectators in its shows until midnight – TO THE ARENA IN 6 THOUSAND UNTIL 24.00 – and that its first international event, Il Volo – Tribute to Ennio Morricone, scheduled for Saturday 5 June and broadcast in Italy and the United States of America, can take place with this public presence, to spread abroad an encouraging image of our country.”

And then there is more, in the last two days there have been photos taken in Rome by our boys, in particular, pieces of videos that filmed Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero on a beautiful day in Villa Borghese, in the beautiful park , but why? Maybe a relaxating ride ??
But these little messages that our boys send us (thanks again Gianluca!), Are always small traces to make us understand that they are doing something ………….. in fact in fact here is the news that I have translated from ANSA from Brazil.:
Tenor trio Il Volo surprised fans on Wednesday 5 May by appearing in the gardens of Villa Borghese, a park located in Rome, Italy, to record a video dedicated to Brazil. The content of the clip has not been revealed, but the filming took place between the Italians who practiced physical exercises and the workers who rested for lunch. During the recording break, Ignazio Boschetto, Gianluca Ginoble and Piero Barone greeted and wished “good training” to all the citizens who stopped the race to watch them. At least 15 people participated in the making of the video dedicated to Brazil, a country that the tenors, famous for giving a pop touch to classical music, have already declared their love several times.

Villa Borghese Park in Rome

Mamma mia, what a nice surprise for those who had the pleasure of seeing them and maybe making the video with them.
It will be a nice surprise also for the Brazilian fans, who will see Il Volo on video, we hope it can be seen by us too !!

This photo, taken by Gianluca (thanks Gian), I can’t believe it was posted by Ignazio!
Beautiful and smiling, Piero Ignazio and Gianluca, at the Rome airport, impossible to know the direction, but in the meantime let’s enjoy their smiling faces and we notice with joy that Ignazio’s eyebrow is healed and there are no piercing !!😁😉
That’s all for now, lots of bad and good news, I must say this post started out sad, but then, seeing their smiling faces in Rome cheered us up, a smile was also formed on our faces, that smile that will make us wait patiently for the moment when we will see them again. ❤️
Daniela

🌸 Auguri per la festa della mamma!! 🥰🥰

UPDATE May 8

This post was ready to be published, when the organization of the Verona Arena published that they had the green light to admit 6000 people, so good news, now I hope to be admitted to purchase these tickets !!!
The Arena communiqué ends with these words:
“With the Il Volo event, live in Italy and also broadcast in the USA from the Arena on June 5, we want to give an encouraging image of Italy.”

Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero with the president and dignitaries from the Marche region in front the Abbey of San Vittore in Genga

This photo instead was published today by the president of the Marche region. There are with him:  Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca in Genga. Genga is the place where there are the beautiful and famous Frasassi Caves !!!
This photo was taken in front of the Abbey of San Vittore.
Could there be a collaboration with Il Volo?
We’ll see: Daniela

  1. No bandages, no piercings, so glad I was wrong in my suspicions once again! Ignazio looks so young and healthy, as do the others.

    1. I have to admit Mark, I was happy too not to see piercings and to notice that Ignazio’s excessive thinness has disappeared. Poor boy, he must have had a really sad time, but he’s better now!
Sure that the support of his two close friends has also had its effect.

  2. Thank you so much for your perseverance at keeping track of Il Volo in those uncertain times, and keeping us posted. It means a great deal to their huge number of fans, of which I certainly am one with all my heart!

    1. Renée thank you for what you write, I am pleased to give you an explanation of some photos or videos or articles on Il Volo that appear on many facebook pages.

  3. Thank you for your thoughtful message. Yes, I agree,
talking about the postponed concerts helps to make
the situation a little lighter. I paid for my airfare in 2020,
so I will celebrate my own little ferragosto in August.
I KNOW you will get one of the 6000 tickets. You will
receive all rewards coming your way. Thank you Daniela.

    1. Martha, I am very sorry for this situation, certainly it is not Il Volo’s fault, but still it is a great regret not to be able to see one’s dreams come true.

  4. So sad that the fans have to wait yet another year😢I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that you get to go to the Ennio Morricone tribute in Verona Daniela.
    Thanks for the update.
Happy mother’s day everyone, including those of us who have fur babies.

    1. In fact, Jill, we are all sad, a year ago we were waiting anxiously, thinking that in this period everything would be better, instead we still have to wait!

  5. A trip back in happier times for me: the Frasassi Caves! I. Toured them with a friend ten years ago. Spectacular! The friend chickened out at the last minute and I had to do the tour of the caves alone (with a guided group). They are kind of scary.

Let’s all make plans to travel to Italy in 2022 if possible!

    1. Sally, I’m happy to know you’ve been to the Frasassi Caves, lovely aren’t they? It looks like a magical world with beautifully colored stalactites and stalagmites.

  6. Well, yes, Daniela, sad news for their Italian schedule, but am I correct in thinking that the others in Europe scheduled for 2021 are still on? And as for the Morricone concert, if you don’t get at least one ticket, there is no justice in the world!!
P.S. Thanks to you and Pat for the lovely photos–the Abbey is stunning!

    1. Yes, Judi, for now the European stops of the tour are still active, in fact the decisions depend on the individual governments.
I really hope to get the ticket for the Morricone tribute !!

  7. Say a prayer and just hang in there. It is going to get better. Things here in the USA are lightening up, Churches are opening, Thank GOD. It just takes time. Get the vaccine as soon as you can, if you have not already gotten it.

  8. My first time commenting, so please bear with me (as I am 89 yrs. old). So sad about the concerts, but I hope the USA coverage will eventually get to Canada. Love those “boys” and feel like a grandmother to them. Saw them in 2011 in Toronto and 2012 in Ottawa, Canada. Would love to see them again but just can’t take take the travelling now. Hope you get to see them, Daniela.

    1. Hi Deebee:
I saw them in Ottawa in 2012 too! That was my first Il Volo Concert. I’ve seen them several times since. Always happy to connect with another Canadian Il Volover! Hope they come back to Toronto soon.

    2. Deebee, I’m so happy with your first comment, thanks!
Those guys, make us all feel like their grandmothers, mothers, sisters, in short, we are part of their family.
You will certainly see them again !!

  9. I am sorry about the concerts. I see above me there is another grandmother surrogate for the boys. We all love them, and we are happy to be grandmothers to all of them. I am looking forward to the June 5th concert. I am sad that concerts in America are far in the future. I can only hope I am well enough to attend one of their American concerts when they resume. All my love to all of you,

    1. Karen, who can say this?
Maybe this time Il Volo decides to start the tour from America and then finish in Italy, it wouldn’t be a bad idea!
You will see them, do not doubt.

      1. Daniela, I hope they do make it to America I’m dying to see them in concert it would be my first time.I’ve only seen them in videos and that’s cause we were in quarantine I had given up on my Music until they came along I love them for bringing music back into my life
Thank you for Keeping us informed

      2. Nilda, I’m so glad they brought music back into your life. Those who listen to them cannot help but love them.
I’m sure you’ll see them in concert soon, their voices are even better live.

      3. From your lips to God’s ears…it would be great to start here in and end up in Italy

  10. Thank you Pat and Daniela and I hope Daniela that you are able to see them in Verona on June 5th! It is disappointing for so many, especially Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca who love performing for a live audience. Of course one has to worry about the economic effect on so many people working in the music industry and other businesses. I wonder if they would in time revisit these decisions although it would probably be difficult with new dates already scheduled.
    Happy Mother’s Day to all!

    1. Margaret, Il Volo will be in Verona tomorrow in the Arena to record the promo for the Morricone tribute. If it were up to me, I would also go to Verona tomorrow, which is so close to Brescia ….. but we don’t know what time they will come, and tomorrow I am busy in the shop, which seems to be recovering, after the government’s decision to admit parties after weddings.

      1. that’s really good news Daniela! I am glad business is picking up–and that people are having parties. These social interactions are so important for our mental health!

  11. Thanks Daniela. Happy to hear the Verona June concert will now admit 6000 people. Fingers crossed that you will get one or two of those. Sad to have the concerts in Italy cancelled again, but I am sure it is for the health of the guys and the audience that we do not rush into crowds. Now planning for 2022. Ciao

    1. Yes, Janet, at least the 6,000 people at the concert have been admitted. June 5th is very close and still nothing is known about the tickets.
They could also give restrictions for travel and favor those who are close, in this case, I would have many possibilities.

  12. So sad that all the IL Volo concerts are being postponed yet again. American musicians’ concerts have been postponed without a definite timeline as to when they will resume. Patience is running short here, and rightfully so. Let’s pray the world will see an end to this pandemic sooner rather than later. God bless.

Love to all. Viva il Mondo!!!

  13. We are so looking forward to seeing our favorite singers in person. Andrea Bocelli is selling tickets for a November 2021 concert he is giving in Seattle, U.S.A., I am sure he will sing in the larger cities in 2021 also. I guess the U.S.A. is more open that Italy. Of course, that could change. Dena Pitchfork, Mercer Island, WA U.S.A.

    1. Yes Dena, I also got a notice that Andrea will be in Kansas City at the T-Mobile Center on October 16.

    2. I have tickets for Andrea Bocelli in December 2021 in Pittsburgh PA USA. I hope it is still on. The CDC yesterday relaxed restrictions. Encourage everyone you know to get vacinnated, that is our way out of this.

  14. Although I might not be able to see Il Volo again in person, I see them on my computer every day and listen to their unbelievable repertoire. I especially liked Gianluca’s rendition of Mi Mancherai. What a wonderful voice and what a range! He sings with such emotion. This pandemic must end soon. We’re getting caught up with vaccines in Canada and, hopefully, we can get back to some form of normal soon. Thanks to those who replied to my first comment. Now, there’s probably no stopping me!

    1. Deebee, hearing Gianluca sing “Mi Mancherai” always brings tears to my eyes. Nobody sings with the emotion that he has! I hope Canada and everyone can get back to some kind of normal soon. Don’t give up!! 😀💪🏻❤️

  15. Daniela, Pat and all our Flight Crew admins, I must say, a thank you is not enough to let you know how much you are appreciated for keeping our interest in Il Volo high. We Ilvolovers do love our guys and since we can’t actually go see them we need this club to share with each other. I just don’t know how else to thank you. I also appreciate Gianluca and his family putting in the effort to keep us in touch. I know he is serious about responsibility and must feel we need this—which we do. Also, that Fabio is willing to open his art to us means a lot, and being willing to sell us art that he does of our Il Volo. Very special. At any rate, you are all loved.

    1. Kay, it is we who thank you for your words and for your liking, it means that we have done a good job and that we are a good team.
      Thank you!!
Stay tuned, because there is a lot of news coming !!

  16. Your words of appreciation are more than enough, Kay! We all need to share our love for IL VOLO even more because this pandemic has kept us apart. I also appreciate the guys, especially Gianluca, for teasing us with photos and keeping us “in the loop” so to speak. You know they hurt as much as we all do. We will get through this! A big hug to you and everyone reading these words! 😀💪🏻💕

  17. Thanks to all of you for keeping us informed The other day on the internet there was mention of a concert in New York next march Hope that was true We are all patiently waiting to see them but as another grandmother who adopted them I start to worry about time left here I so want to see them at least one more time. I was fortunate and got to see them for the first time in Florida in 2020 Daniela I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you that you get a ticket for Verona, Good Luck

  18. We had tickets to see the boys in Dallas-Ft. Worth o on April14 ,2022. I was so excited. We found out that the concert had been canceled and I was so disappointed. It was to be our first concert. We are waiting for the updated schedule for USA. I too am a grandmother, actually a great-grandmother and have brought my husband along on this grand journey with Il VOLO and we are totally enthralled with them.By now, I have learned that Ignazio is married and I am so happy for him and his wife. And also that Gianluca is blissfully engaged. So happy for them. I am so sad that I may never be able to see them except by video. Thank you Daniella for your ,updates on the wonderful young men of ll volo

    1. What? When did Ignazio and I am assuming Anna, get married then? I must have completely missed it. Can’t believe there wouldn’t have been photos of the wedding somewhere on the Internet, especially from Gianluca!!!

I knew they were engaged, ditto Gianluca, though apparently an Italian engagement isn’t quite the same as it is here in the UK where a ring is involved, with a wedding date on the horizon. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but here in the UK we are talking bookings at least a year in advance.

One ever so slightly puzzled Roz!

      1. I think she is mistaken. For sure they are NOT married–we would have heard about it. Plus Piero is supposed to sing at Ignazio’s wedding–you think we wouldn’t have a video of that??.

      2. Thanks Penina. I know Piero did sing at a wedding, think it was sometime last year, though dates on Facebook and YouTube can be a little erratic to say the least!

      3. The one I have seen was really beautifully done, including scenes of the church and surrounding area. Piero singing Ave Maria was superb, the icing on the cake one might say. 😉

        Roz
