Ignazio’s sister, Nina, has posted this delicious looking creation on her pizzeria social media!  She says it was made “in honor of Ignazio.”  I’m not sure exactly what is inside of it.  Ricotta?  Nutella?  Pistachio?   I am going to try and get her recipe for all of us IL VOLO…IGNAZIO fans here to make at home!

Gossip on the new CD ~ by Daniela

Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca have returned to Italy!

Seeing their show in Miami one could see how happy they were and relaxed while they were enjoying themselves.

Gianluca made this message on twitter.

image

They quickly recorded the new album because everything was already prepared, as in the music bases, lyrics, etc.  It lacked only their voices.  Nothing has been said, but some facts make us think of a collaboration at least in a duet with ……. Natalia Jimenez.
Of course, all of you will remember this great Spanish singer with which our guys performed at the Latin Grammy Awards last year.

Here is the song they sang, entitled “Creo En Mi.”

Natalia Jimenez, in addition to being a  good singer,  is also a good songwriter.  The beautiful “RICORDAMI” was written by her.

Jimenez’s presence right during the video recording and the camaraderie between her and the guys, as true friends, makes us think of a likely duet.

image

They are really all very happy in these videos.

Natalia Jimenez has a really beautiful voice that is amalgamated with Ignazio, Piero, and Gianluca’s voices.

In the videos, Gianluca and Natalia talk about the new album and they say it will be different but very nice.  Natalia says it’s just gone to the studio just to make a greeting ……… but we really do not believe this version !!!

We’re all waiting for the release of the album that seems to be already in the early months of 2018.

(a little history of…) Grande Amore… We never get tired of listening to it.

On December 16, 2016, this article was published on Zon.it, by Antonella Esposito. Although it has been a while of time, I (Daniela) will  translate it for you because it is worth reading.

GRANDE AMORE OF VOLO:  BECAUSE WE DO NOT GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO IT

After the first listening to GRANDE AMORE, did the song really like you and did  join your favorite playlist? Are you still irremediably attracted to the melody and lyrics of the song? That’s why GRANDE AMORE of IL VOLO does not tire you.

Grande Amore is the winning song of the 65th edition of the Sanremo Festival, interpreted by the trio opera lirico Il Volo. Although it seems to have been written specifically to brush the powerful and versatile voices of Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, the piece had a tough road before cutting the finish line “Il Volo”.

THE SONG

Composed in 2003, by Francesco Boccia, songwriter and frontman of the music band I Quisisona, together with Tommy Esposito of Il Giardino dei Semplici, the romantic piece already having a precise layout designed for lyric lyricals, is presented at the selections of the   Festival of the Italian Song, in 2005, with a negative result.  So it remains to dust in the drawer for 10 years.

It is in fact 2015 when the song is enthusiastically evaluated by the commission of Sanremo Young and assigned to the duo Operapop. Even then, fate is a strange joke, because the duo is excluded from the competition for the age limit reached by one of the two components, Enrico Giovagnoli.

Grande Amore  is also offered to Orietta Berti, who proves to be favorable to the song but she is, however, unable to participate in the singing contest for personal reasons.

Once again, bounced back and without interpreting the fate of the piece, it is entrusted to the hands of the artistic director Carlo Conti.  At his first conducting of the Festival, using the help of the Operapop manager, convinces the producer of Il Volo, Michele Torpedine, to compete for the three young singers with the signed song Boccia-Esposito.

It’s the evening of 11th February, 2015, when IL VOLO sing for the first time, Grande Amore, in the slaps of applause from the Sanremo audience. The three different and perfectly complementary voices of the three singers, enter the heart and fill the audience’s eyes in the theater and viewers who are following the kermesse  (festival) in the world. Grande Amore.

For some it’s a discovery, for others it’s a confirmation. The elegance of the guys of Il Volo, the stage presence with which they saturate with energy each single tile on the stage of the Ariston, and the dramatic might with which the three young singers sing the love all or almost conquer.

MELODY AND TEXT

Great love strikes, likes and creeps in the head with a basically simple and essential text and for this easy to memorize. The plain strode opens with the term “love” which in a vibrant and prolonged acute spreads the basis for the beginning of the refrain. And here comes the engaging redundant melody that never touches the nenia, by the way, draws a rhythmic curvature cleverly caressed first by the baritone basses of Ginoble and then raised by the strong and precise setting of Boschetto and then exploding with Barone in a  Love screaming to all generations.

It is therefore a universal love that sang by IL VOLO declinable in all the nuances of loving sentiment, not by chance as revealed by the same authors: “The text is not inspired by a specific person, but it is a story always valid as it may be love declaration”.

CLASSICISM

Musicality, universality and pop-lyrical contamination are probably the key elements to place with a certain conviction the classical lyric passage for the song’s story. Grande Amore with an extraordinary rapidity of diffusion not only musical but cultural has already been able to fully fit within that pink of international pieces representing Italianity. Grande Amore has all the characteristics of symphonic sweetness needed to become the Caruso of the new millennium. It  has that rhythmic and flamboyant stylistic cadence so that it can be sung by the middle world as has always been the case with O ‘sole mio.

image

IL VOLO

It seems despicable and yet between different artists the song would not get the same feedback or maybe yes, but this is another story. The truth is that each song chooses its own interpreter and Grande Amore was born and struggled to end in the repertoire of Il Volo, altering in a shocking way the same artistic path of Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca who so much to the song that made him disconnect the ticket to success in Italy. Not that the three were not good enough, just as often happens the masterpieces make a difference and Grande Amore is without too much delay the diamond tip that has given the group the gender specificity that has always been sought after.

These are the technical reasons why listening to Grande Amore does not tire and will not even tire in twenty or thirty years. Stylish stylistic lists that are merely fine to themselves, which, because the longevity parable is valid over time, then add other elements with the most irrational flavor. These are the emotional ones, those you can not explain and that with a song almost invite you to listen to it and listen to it again and again.

Dandelion Wishes, Dreams, and Il Volo?

Several months ago now, our group at work did a painting event for charity. The painting that was chosen was entitled “Dandelion Dreams.” You are probably wondering how this relates to Il Volo, but wait and see!!

I canvassed the internet, looking for things related to dandelions – wishes and dreams. There is a plethora of notations! Many references were about weeds vs. wishes, nice little sayings, a few poems here and there, even a song or two, and of course if you blow on the seeds of the dandelion flower, you are granted a wish and it comes true. How many of us, as children, found such joy in blowing the seeds into the wind and watching them float away? How many dandelions were wished upon and how many came true? I found several nice sites, which I will reference throughout…

There is one saying in particular I found, through Google Images…..it said, “we made a wish and you came true…” How many of us were possibly wishing for something like Il Volo, but just didn’t know it when we were younger? Maybe some of us wished for imageshappiness, love, friends, joy, or maybe even just some beautiful harmony, in a world filled with discord. Maybe we thought our wishes never came true; that they were just whimsies of childhood, and quickly forgotten as we matured into adulthood, as swiftly as the wind carried the seeds toward the skies.

But, unbeknown to us, the Universe was listening. It took a while, maybe 20, 30, or 40 years or more even, for some, however, far off in the land of Italy and Sicily, our wishes were heard. In the cities of Montepagano, Bologna, and Naro; our little seeds and wishes were planted – and they grew. They grew into Il Volo! Our precious Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero. A culmination of all of our wishes. Our wishes may have seemed selfish at the time, but the Universe was wise and knew that the purity of the heart of a child, was truly selfless. It knew, when these three voices were joined together, the dreams, hopes, and desires of not just those who wished for them, but for those all over the world would share in this miracle.

Each breath they take and each note they sing, carries the sweet seeds of sound to ourimages0AR4AT1F ears. As the notes enter our spirit, we feel joy and happiness. We also find the love and the harmony of new friendships. All of this, from one little dandelion wish!

From http://www.flowermeaning.com/dandelion-flower-meaning/ I thought the meaning of the dandelion flower below was very fitting to Il Volo and the many difficulties they have faced already in their career.

What Does the Dandelion Flower Mean?

The common and humble Dandelion has a surprising amount of different meanings. The Dandelion means:

  • Healing from emotional pain and physical injury alike (how many of us have said they have healed us?)
  • Intelligence, especially in an emotional and spiritual sense (all 3 are very wise, even at their young ages)
  • The warmth and power of the rising sun (O Sole Mio!)
  • Surviving through all challenges and difficulties (each one of them have had to overcome some personal challenge)
  • Long lasting happiness and youthful joy (even when they are 70, they will still be Il Volo, like at the end of L’amore Si Muove video!)
  • Getting your wish fulfilled (they still wish for the US Grammy, could that still be in their future?)

Since the Dandelion can thrive in difficult conditions, it is no wonder that people say the flower symbolizes the ability to rise above life’s challenges. (remember, in the beginning, even their own country did not recognize them and some critics still despise them! And yet, they continue to sing to sold-out concerts, world-wide!)

There is also a song, whose words reflect their essence….

From a song by John Adams, called Dandelion Wishes… (select phrases from the song) https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/John-Adams-11/Dandelion-Wishes

“How would it be if I never found you

Would I be me? Would you be you? Everybody’s searching for the one, Oh but darling you found me Everybody’s searching for the one Oh but maybe there’s two or even three?

Dandelion wishes Blow in different ways If the wind should change directions If my wishes were to fall would you love me anyway?

How would it be if I never found you Thankfully, we’ll never know!”

Oh, how some of those words just ring so true with our guys, don’t they?

So, the next time you see a dandelion, make a wish – you never know when or how it may come true!

I think Cynthia asked me about my other little  piece of art – below is a little triptych of my painted wine glass…my Tuscan sunset from just a little over a year ago!  🙂  (yes, this was a first, never before attempted, free-hand – very impressionistic!)

Notte Magica – The Movie Event! June 21, 2017

This is a spoiler alert for those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet!  Close your eyes and look away…..

nottemagica header

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, a group of the Detroit Il Volo gals ventured to Bloomfield Twp. Michigan to the Maple Theatre to see the Notte Magica movie.  I had heard a few reviews/comments from Victoria and Jane, so I kind of knew what to expect.  They both told me there were a few clips that we hadn’t seen before of them playing around, a short bit from the Home and Family show and a quick excerpt from the LA concert at the Dolby.  They also showed a quick pic of them with Priscilla Presley.  Yep, that was all true – I think I had seen a few of the clips before, as well on some form of social media.

Then, as they both said, it went into the Florence concert with a few subtitles here and there, but basically it was similar to both DVDs of the Italian and PBS versions and in English.

However, as I recall, there was a constant camera going back and forth in front of us when we were there.  I have to tell you, with all the camera work going on, it was clear that this movie was part of their master plan of the future.  The footage that was shown in the movie was far superior to either of the DVDs.  Many shots and scenes were the same, but there were others that were not shown before here and there.

It was almost like being there, right in the front row.  Third row for me again.  Unfortunately, Lorna was not able to make it.  Every so often Gin would say, “there you are, I see you!”  Well, I must have blinked at that moment, because I didn’t see me!  lol!  However, nearer to the end, after the last orchestra solo, I saw Lorna and I sitting in the audience.  They flashed the same shot twice, just for us, to be sure we saw it.  🙂

Of course the guys were amazing.  I thought it was going to be too loud, but once it got started, it was just fine.  There were about 35 tickets sold, not too bad.  Not sure how many persons actually showed up, but I’d say there were at least over 25 in the theatre.  We had the 6th row all to ourselves…. no one was in front of us.  We clapped during the Libiamo song and clapped and cheered at the end of most of them – just like we were at the real concert.  Every once in a while, we heard those behind us clapping.  I sang along to Tonight and Maria.  It was so loud, I’m sure no one heard me…

I have to say, seeing them on the big screen, so much larger than life, was incredible.  The close-up shots were fantastic and so close and clear, that you could count the hairs on their chins!  It was almost the entire concert, but no songs other than what was shown on the other DVDs.  They did not show Adeste Fidelis, which I can’t figure out why they sang it and then just cut it out of the final cuttings.  O Come Let us Adore Him – yes, O Come Let us Adore Them!!  Any time, any place, we will be there!

I even brought along a new fan with me that evening.  I had converted her over at work.  She is a busy person and had not really heard them sing much, although she did say she looked them up on You Tube.  She is a “younger” fan and she thoroughly enjoyed herself, the movie and meeting us more “mature” fans.  When it was all over, I asked her if she had a favorite and she said it was too soon to tell and that each one is so unique, unto himself, that it was hard to choose.  She sent me an email a few days later and said she was still deciding!!  🙂

Before the show, we enjoyed a meal at the little café, right inside the theatre lobby area.  A little pricey, but nice and convenient.

We also met another Il Volo fan group from the area – Lynn Delaney and friends.  This was her second time of seeing the movie.  She said she enjoyed it the 2nd time, just as much!

The only comments I have about this is that I did wish they had included the Adeste Fidelis and I thought a really nice touch would have been to add the Grande Amore from the LA concert, to really tie in the 2 concerts.  Not sure why they seemed to emphasize both concerts and only about 5 minutes or less was spent on LA.  But, of course, they didn’t consult with me on this – if only they had, it would have been better!  🙂

So, for those of you who have not seen it yet and it comes anywhere near you, I would highly recommend it.  It is just about 2 hours long – they tag it as 110 minutes.

If they decide to release it on DVD, it is definitely going to be part of my collection!

This is the write-up from the IL VOLO website…

A concert-event that brings to life magical moments from Il Volo’s World Tour 2017 – from the backstage of their March performance in Los Angeles to the birth of their tour with Plácido Domingo in the magnificent setting of Florence’s Piazza Santa Croce. The event features the concert along with never before seen, cinema-exclusive footage.

This trio of young Italian tenors, today’s operatic pop phenomenon, have delighted audiences in prestigious venues worldwide.

Il Volo started their US tour with a sold-out show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and then performing in 15 concerts. The cinema program highlights a recent concert at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, where Maestro Placido Domingo joined the trio on stage.

Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca are now touring Europe and Italy.

This film-concert is distributed worldwide by Rising Alternative beginning from June 2017.

Images including stage and media appearances, rehearsals with Plácido Domingo, backstage moments and audience reactions during the US tour will precede this first concert exhibition, mastered for 2k Digital Cinema presentation in surround sound.

This title has already been booked into cinemas in about 20 countries: in Finland where it opens on June 7, in Spain June 13, in the USA beginning from June 13, in Italy June 15, in Switzerland June 15, in Ecuador June 19, in Slovakia  June 20,  in Mexico July 9 and 13, in Austria September 14 and in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands and Ireland on dates to be determined very shortly.

Updated cinema show times by country are posted on http://www.ilvoloincinema.com

This project is a tribute to the Three Tenors. In 1990, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti performed their legendary concert at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, and now, 27 years later, Il Volo’s Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble honor the legend of The Three Tenors by bringing this iconic classical music to new and familiar audiences. Il Volo grew up listening to them, being fascinated and inspired by their voices and legendary achievements.

NOTTE MAGICA Tour 2017 kicked off with the concert in Florence – Piazza Santa Croce with the great orchestra of the famous Teatro Massimo di Palermo conducted by Maestro Ramón Tebar. As a special guest, Maestro Plácido Domingo also participated in the concert, conducting some of the operatic arias and popular songs.

Il Volo “Notte Magica” in Cinemas will show the group on tour and then singing some of the most famous Neapolitan songs and arias from the Italian and international opera repertoire – all of which were sung by the original Three Tenors.

NOTTE MAGICA – a magical night tribute to The Three Tenors’ is a project conceived by Michele Torpedine, Il Volo’s creator, manager and producer and is distributed in cinemas worldwide by Rising Alternative, in collaboration with Sony Music Masterworks, Sony Music Italy, C Major Entertainment and SpectiCast.

“A tribute to such artists and to such an event could be considered presumptuous, but in fact it is not, as we have not the slightest thought of comparing ourselves to our idols, our artistic inspirations,” say Il Volo.

“I am very happy to be with Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca conducting them in this magic night under the stars in such a beautiful city: Florence! I really love these guys. They are performing such a great repertoire around the world – some of the music my colleagues and I performed in our own concerts”, says Plácido Domingo

For those of you in Canada, it looks like the closest for you would be Vashon, Washington, which is between Seattle and Tacoma on the map.  It doesn’t look like they have added any additional locations since a month ago, but you never know – keep looking!

Notte Magica – Taormina! June 1, 3-4, 2017

nottemagica headerOnce again, I sit before a blank page, wondering what will appear from my fingertips?  Three more beautiful concerts, gone in a flash.  They made the ancient stage come alive once more.  Sicily – home to Piero and Ignazio.  A special feeling for them.  As in the picture below, they say they sang their first concert in Italy from that stage.  It was there that Italy first heard, live, the beautiful words of “Memory” sung by Ignazio, Gian’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and Piero’s “No Puede Ser.”  In those moments, Italy finally knew what they had been missing; what the Americans already knew!  They are greeted by friends and family wherever they go, but home is always a special place.  As you watch the many videos and pictures that came through, there was no doubt that Piero and Ignazio were having a grande time.  Even Ginaluca joined in the fun on occasion!  I was fortunate to hear a little bit of the June 1 & 3 concert live, thanks to Ivolomusic on Instagram, however, they did not seem to do it for the last concert – but I was home, ready and waiting!  I heard Piero’s solo and Tonight from Ignazio and a few others.  Glorious as always.  The same, yet different.  The stage and the lighting there was beautiful, as only Taormina and the Teatro Antica can be.  So, here we are with some clips and pictures of some of those glorious nights.  I apologize, I might not know which night is which, but the video usually indicates it.  Credit to all owners.

This picture below from Il Volo music – they say “our first concert was on this stage!”Image may contain: 3 people, people smiling, crowd

Picture above…. saying goodbye to Taormina… (wonder if Igna had been having some bad hair days? He seems to be wearing this Madrid cap in many photos!)

Look at the beauty and lights of that backdrop below!

taormina stage

Ok, don’t know how they do it, but it looks like this is a good portion of most of the concert!  June 1, 2017   Enjoy!

And this, the guys having a little fun in the streets! Note Maria Grazia filming with her phone… 🙂  Dani/Daniela, or if anyone can translate what they are singing or saying, that would be fun!  It seems like it’s impromptu?

One more thing to add that I thought was pretty cool, if you missed it.  This is from Il Volo Music’s FaceBook page. I think you can actually hear the orchestra flub a bit!  If you keep watching the videos, there are some really great ones! (Watch for Piero in his dressing room in the 2nd one… 😉 ) Hope the link works!

Yes, 3 more down and still many more to come!  The guys do get a bit of a break, but are then off to Malta on June 8!

Just a little side note….don’t know how many have noticed, but our Il Volo Flight Crew Instagram account has been deactivated.  I hear this has been going around, as well as some getting their virtual hands slapped by FaceBook.  Please be cautious out there on what you post.  I don’t know how they are making these decisions, but I know a few of our crew members have been affected by it.

Also a special shout-out to Jane & Daniela for keeping this site at a cruising altitude…. 🙂

Notte Magica – Bologna/Milan – Personal Review by Veronica!

nottemagica header

The following review and adventure is from one of our newest Flight Crew members – Veronica B.  You may remember me mentioning a Veronica in a few of my Florence/Verona Italy stories last year.  This is the same person!  She lives just outside of Milan and saw the guys in both Bologna and Milan.  Here is her story of her notte magica and her magical 12 hours!

BOLOGNA

On 6th May at 2:30 p.m. I went to MXP Airport to meet Daniela, after 10 long months! We were so happy!

Our trip began under a very intense rain (and rain NEVER left us…NEVER!)

After 2h 30min, we reached Casalecchio di Reno (near Bologna) where our hotel was and also the Unipol Arena, where the guys were performing that night.

We relaxed a little with a pre-dinner drink and then we dressed up to go to the show; a shuttle waited for us at about 8 o’clock!vero daniela

When we reached the Arena immediately we saw the huge stage with the beautiful chandelier and the red background, it was beautiful!

When the show began, we get back to the wonderful experience in Florence…

bologna 1The guys came in and they were so nice in their elegant blue suits!

Their voices sounded powerful and more mature than ever and the audience was enthusiastic!

Piero was very serious, more than usual 🙂piero 1

gian 1Gianluca sweet as always…

And Ignazio was absolutely amazing; beautiful, funny and with a clear, fantastic voice!

Standing ovation by Standing ovation and joke by joke the show turned to the end with Grande Amore; always great emotion from the audience, also for them!igna 1

They said hello and thank you to the audience and they went way!

The shuttle was waiting for us in order to bring us back to the hotel.

trioWe slept very well that night; tired, but happy!

The day after, our plan was to go to Bologna center to have lunch in a typical restaurant and shopping around. Unfortunately (or not maybe…LOL 🙂 it was raining…and I decided to surprise Daniela.

I was driving but my direction wasn’t city center but the place where I knew the guys were going to be – the furniture store.

At a certain point Daniela screamed, “Heeeeey Sis’…Essegistore!!! There!!!”  she looked at me driving, “YOU KNOW!!!! OHMY GOD!!! YOU KNEW IT!!!”….ah ah ah

They arrived with their cars after about half an hour and they did some fast interviews.

After that they began to get pics with fans, they were really nice and they hugged and kissed everybody in a warm way!furniture store

After that we went away in order to have lunch…this time for real! LOL 🙂

We went to a very nice place that I know very well, a restaurant called Buca Manzoni in the center of Bologna. We got Tortellini with Ragu’…of course!

After that we were ready for our “tour” in the city.

Because of the rain, we decided to go inside the shops so we would not be so cold!

Walking by we saw one Il Volover we know and we went to say hello…just 1 minute after Ignazio arrived with his car and I was like “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!??!?!?!”...yes…lucky me! 🙂 He was a little tired but he kindly stopped with us to share some minutes, he did a selfie with my phone, he hugged me and went away (we understood they had a meeting with all the staff inside the hotel at our back).outside store

I was SOOOOO happy; without any effort we met them 3 times in 12 hours! 🙂

And it was time to go to the airport to let Daniela catch the plane and for me to drive home!

Concerning Milano, unfortunately I do not have so much to tell you, apart from the amazing show and how they were sweet and funny…and of course talented.

Milano is a very important place for music. Record companies, important singers and VIP attended the show.milan

The most emotional moment was, of course, when Piero, after No Puede Ser, received a HUGE standing ovation and he was evidently touched…Ignazio and Gianluca were at left side of the stage proudly applauding at him.

Veronica, si, you are certainly 2 molto molto fortuna ladies!!  As well as some beautiful pictures from the front row!

Do we ever tire of meeting the guys, isn’t it always almost like the first time?  🙂

Veronica – thank you for taking the time to send me this lovely review and your day of adventure!  I’m sure our readers will enjoy it.   Until we meet again…and welcome to the crew!

Baci a tutti!
