During the beautiful presentation event of the D&G feature in Taormina, Il Volo sang a beautiful Sicilian song – “E VUI DURMITI ANCORA”.
It is a beautiful Sicilian poem written by Giovanni Formisano in 1910.The beauty of the text greatly affected Gaetano Emanuel Calì, to the point that in the duration of the trip from Malta, (one night), he composed the score to go with it.
Thanks to my friend Katerina Tsaousi, who published the text and the video, I thought of repeating these beautiful words, in the original text and below with the translation made by the Sicilian friend Rita Spera.
Thanks to both !!😘😘
E VUI DURMITI ANCORA
Gian= Lu suli è già spuntatu di lu mari E vui, bidduzza mia, durmiti ancora, L’aceddi sunnu stanchi di cantari E affriddateddi aspettanu ccà fora; Ignazio= Supra ‘ssu barcuneddu su pusati E aspettanu quann’è ca v’affacciati.
Piero= Lassati stari, non durmiti cchiui, Ca ‘nzemi a iddi, dintra sta vanedda, Ci sugnu puru iù, c’aspettu a vui, Ppi viriri ‘ssa facci accussì bedda; G+I+P= Passu cca fora tutti li nuttati E aspettu suru quannu v’affacciati. (The part sung by Il Volo ends here, but the song continues.)
Li ciuri senza vui non vonnu stari, Su tutti ccu li testi a pinnuluni, Ognun d’iddi non voli sbucciari, Si prima non si rapì ssu barcuni. Intra li buttuneddi su ammucchiati E aspettanu quann’è ca v’affacciati. Lassati stari, non durmiti cchiui, Ca ‘nzemi a iddi, dintra sta vanedda, Ci sugnu puru iù, c’aspettu a vui, Ppi viriri ‘ssa facci accussì bedda; Passu cca fora tutti li nuttati E aspettu suru quannu v’affacciati.
Translation:
AND YOU SLEEP, AGAIN
The sun has already risen above the sea And you my beautiful, You sleep, again Birds are tired of singing And full of cold, they wait out here Above the small balcony, they are supported And they wait when it is That you, you lean out of the balcony.
You stop, Don’t sleep anymore because in their midst Inside this little street I’m here too, I’m waiting for you To see your face so beautiful. I spend all the nights out here To see when you look out on the balcony. (The part sung by Il Volo ends here, but the song continues.)
Flowers without you don’t want to be They are all with dangling heads Each of them does not want to blossom If this balcony doesn’t open first Inside the buds are wrapped And they wait when you look out onto the balcony.
You stop, Don’t sleep anymore because in their midst Inside this little street I’m here too, I’m waiting for you To see your face so beautiful. I spend all the nights out here To see when you look out on the balcony.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And now, as our eyes are never tired of beauty, let’s still enjoy our beautiful boys, elegant in D&G tuxedos. ❤️❤️❤️
Il Volo with Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and Musumeci (governor of Sicily).
The words of this Sicilian song are really beautiful.
This song was often used by young Sicilian males to serenade their girlfriends, who listened to them from the window or from the balcony … how romantic.
Poor Gianluca who had to sing in a really difficult dialect.
But Il Volo has made a really good interpretation ….. of course they can, they are Il Volo !!
Thanks again to Rita for the translation from Sicilian to Italian! 😘
What I liked about Nico from the first time I saw him was his energy! The way he draws in his audience. He says, “he chooses songs that make him move.” I say, he makes the songs move. Nico first came to my attention when he won the 2017 Festival Show in Verona. Afterwards I started to follow him never knowing that his path would cross with Ignazio’s. Ignazio what did you see in this young man? Probably what I saw. A fresh approach. A freedom of expression that goes deep and is apparent in the songs he writes. Nico writes much of his own music and what he writes is really about who he is.
In a recent interview with Nico Donvito, an Italian Music Blogger, I saw another side of Nico. This is the side, in my opinion, that resembles Ignazio. We hear this young man talk about his music. His place in the music industry. How he got there and all the people who are responsible for his journey.
I heard a, very, intelligent and, responsible young man who has worked hard to get to where he is. He talks about, who he is, where he came from and how he sees his future.
Right out the gate, Nico impressed me with his insight. Nico sees Gorilla as a means of escape from where we are in our world today and an expression of where he finds himself in the world. Nico says, “Gorilla has a fresh taste, because in the last few months we have been a bit obliged to heavy thoughts, to stop and reflect on important things, to close ourselves in ourselves. At a certain point the moment comes when you need a beer on the beach with your friends, ‘Gorilla’ is just that, something not at all thick which and, in certain situations, can be essential.”
That’s pretty deep and right on. It was almost as if he was saying I wrote this song two years ago, but this was its’ moment. Its’ when it was needed. To say that the Gorilla is that moment in time when you need to kick back or as Nico put it when you need a beer on the beach with your friends, yes, that’s exactly what Gorilla is. Its’ light and intriguing and it brought us away from all the madness that preceded it. Perhaps, that’s what Ignazio was saying the day Gorilla was released. Let’s take the weight of the world and toss it aside. You had your way and now, we’re going to have ours!
Nico said he had Gorilla “in the drawer for a few years, in some ways it had become something unheard of for me, even if I understood the potential of the recording. So , I decided to rewrite the verses, to work again on the musical aspect, to represent in some way my growth. In addition, the team that work ed with me has changed . The head of everything Ignazio and the great boss Michele are two people that I will never stop thanking for they believed in something, then took that something from nothing to something so beautiful. Something wonderful to invest in, something that is not yet, is not for everyone, they took it and had the courage to go with it. This is the way we have known since November. We are side by side where we breathe when the boys are just a bomb and you can fell joy.”
When asked how he perceived Gorilla Nico said, “when they ask me what genre, the only word I can come up with is ‘Groove’ because it represents a constant in my music. ‘Ignorance’ because I consider it the most appropriate term, even if the most elegant one could be light-heartedness, but if we want to bring it among people to the language of children, we can speak of good and healthy ignorance. ‘Mustard,’ finally, because it is not clear if you like it or not, if it is spicy or not, if you go to analyze a few sentences of the piece there is also a pinch of political criticism, deliberately proposed in a subtle and veiled way”.
Gorilla is indeed a statement. Nico sees all the worth of it. He realizes where it needs to go and who it needs to touch. In reworking the song, he has opened a door to who he is. He is the groove, the spice and the mustard all rolled into one. The good and healthy ignorance is the selling point of the song. It appeals to children because they understand the language of the Gorilla and they look for him.
Nico was asked if he has achieved a specific artistic identity or, is he simply looking for it?
Nico explains, “it is certainly better than before and it will always be like this, a crescendo. Initially I had difficulties, because you need to find your own pen, otherwise you will remain an interpreter basing everything on your stamp. Today I think I have reached a good textual point, I can still improve on a musical and melodic level, some nuances can be added to make it even more personal. ”Gorilla” is a piece written more than two years ago, a mix between what has been and what is now, the next songs will be part of the next phase, I hope people will notice this growth, because originality is the most important element for an artist.”
What an amazing insight. Listen to how Ignazio summed up Nico in an article from Quotiano.net. “This is the moment Nico has been waiting for, for two and a half years. We could have anticipated the times, but I think we did the right thing to wait. Nico needed to grow calmly in writing. And he’s doing it very well.”
When asked about going to Sanremo again, Nico gives us a look into the future. ”I am working on many new things, little is known about me, there has been ‘Volo’ and ‘Gorilla’ but I have even more personal songs in store. The thing that fascinates me most about the pieces I’ve written, in these years, is that they highlight my character, they tell me in detail. A strange place is certainly to be expected, where there are, particular thoughts, all accompanied by the ‘groove’ that characterizes me. Regarding Sanremo Giovani, I confess that I have a song that I like so much, but that I don’t yet consider perfect. Surely in the future there will be a third test, I can’t tell you if it will be this year, next year or the other, but it is an experience that I would like to repeat with the right piece.”
In a recent article I wrote, I stated, “Nico has a lot of passion when he writes. His songs go deep and, they leave you with a lasting impression! You can feel the depth of who Nico is. So young and so wise. It’s no wonder that Ignazio noticed him. He’s all feeling. He can be crazy, calm and tenacious all at the same time! He can be so funny and so serious in a split second!”
One of the songs Nico has in store for us is “Passanti.” On the night Gorilla was released, Nico gave us a preview of some of his upcoming songs. Listen to my words about the night Gorilla was released.” I hope you noticed that little gem that was slipped in there, Passanti.” Coming soon!
How does Nico see his future? “It seems trivial,” Nico says, “but I would like my music to reach everyone. I don’t care who listens to it, the important thing is that anyone who wants to do it will take care of it, enter my head and don’t make too much mess.”
For those who do not know the “pearl of the Ionian”, Taormina, is a beautiful small town with a breathtaking view.
It is really small, you can walk quickly, and see it all, and in its alleys, time has stopped. It is a destination for great tourism, for its undeniable beauty, but also because there is a beautiful and panoramic and well-kept ancient Greek Theater where many events take place.
By the way, but how beautiful are our guys with D&G designer clothes?
From 1 to 10 I would say 11!❤😁
A nice video of moments in Taormina, shot by Gianluca. The weather is not beautiful, let’s hope it doesn’t rain!
But last night after a nice dinner at the Baronessa restaurant, the boys sent a singing message for you in the U.S.
In this period of Covid, Taormina shines as always, but there are fewer people, therefore, all the more reason it is even more livable and it is easy to meet the people we would love to see, maybe at Bambar, while we taste a good granita, by Saretto.
In fact, these are my two dear friends, Nancy and Luce and that’s who they met !!
I am so happy for them, but also jealous. 😁😁😘
Even Piero Ignazio and Gianluca are there and at any time, a good granita is not refused !!
Gianluca says, “A granita, at Bambar at midnight and twenty, guys, almond and pistachio granita, you don’t know what you are missing”.
It’s the day of the event, this evening at the Greek Theater, there will be the Dolce & Gabbana event, the film DEVOTION will be screened with Monica Bellucci and with music by Ennio Morricone, and at the end there will be a performance by Il Volo !!
The boys started the day early with a good gymnastic workout, great guys !!
Then it was time for rehearsals.
And here we are finally at night.
But how much more beautiful can Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio be with these D&G tuxedos ??
I would say amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful and very elegant men.
The event is sponsored by the Sicily Region.
The few admitted public did not have to pay, only to book the few tickets.
What luck for them!

Il Volo with the governor of Sicily Musumeci.
Il Volo with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and actress Monica Bellucci.
Here is the performance of Il Volo.
Il Volo performed:
Nessun Dorma E vui durmiti ancora (typical song sung in Sicilian dialect also by Gianluca) E più ti penso (tribute to Morricone) Un amore così grande
Four beautiful and flawless songs.
What a wonderful evening, lucky that audience.
Wonderful and elegant Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, as it must be on a special evening like this.
How many of you have seen and heard such beauty in music?
Really special and we are happy to be their fans !!
And finally, after four months the moment has arrived. The occasion was the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Milan.
IL VOLO, as guests, sang together again. Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca sang the beautiful, sweet Italian songs.
In times of pandemic, the parade was held outdoors, on the “university campus” in Milan. Few people admitted, unfortunately.
A men’s fashion show, many models ……….. but how beautiful our boys were, elegant, in blue suits, but with a touch of sportiness in the white sneakers.
They are in excellent shape, beautiful and with perfect voices and finally together again.
They started by singing “Torna a Sorrento”.
I want to remind you, that the D&G fashion show is inspired by the colors and geometries of the Amalfi coast, which find their uniqueness also in the architecture of the beautiful Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento.
The parade has started and while the models paraded with the D&G creations, Il Volo accompanied with:
Grande Amore
O Sole Mio
Un Amore così Grande
‘O surdato ‘nnammurato
Nel blu dipinto di blu – Volare
Here is the video of the parade. 😁😁😁
Really a mini concert.
As good as ever and perhaps even more, because the voices, rested from the long run, were magnificent and Ignazio performed all the high notes at the end! ️🎶
Congratulations guys, it is a great pleasure to see you again and hear your voices together!
While Il Volo sang Volare, Dolce & Gabbana entered, wearing masks, they went on stage where the boys were singing.
There was a short speech from Alberto Mantovani, head of immunology at Humanitas University.
In the end Dolce and Gabbana thanked Il Volo and everyone present.
The event was also published in newspapers, including the New York Times.
A very nice article of the show was published online by The Impression.
The Italian RAI 2 news broadcast a short video of the show parade. and in the comments they said that all the participants, including the guys from Il Volo, gave up their fees by evolving them for research.
And here are the guys in the backstage of the parade, together with the people who work so that everything goes well !!
But that’s not all, there is other good news!
Yesterday it was announced that Saturday 18 July, at the Ancient Theater of Taormina, Dolce & Gabbana will present the film by Giuseppe Tornatore: DEVOTION, with Monica Bellucci and with music by Ennio Morricone.
At the end of the film, there will be a Il Volo performance to close the evening.
Of course in pandemic times, very few places are available due to the distance, but all this means that we are starting again, that things are improving.
Here is the announcement of the event.
How much good news, finally a wave of positivity!
These are small steps towards the recovery of normalcy. Here everything has started and now everything is normalizing, this time will come to you too, you have to wait and not be in a hurry.
But what about our beloved Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero ?? What a thrill to see them again and hear their splendid voices.
Thanks guys, indirectly you have donated a mini-concert to us too. Thanks also to D&G who allowed all this.
See you on Saturday…….
Taormina, a dream, how many of you would like to be there?? 😊😍
Three months have passed since Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, due to the pandemic, unfortunately had to stop their beautiful concert tour in the US.
ACCORDING TO OUR LATEST PRESS RELEASE IL VOLO FORCED TO CANCEL FINAL CONCERTS OF 2020 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DUE TO THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC.
On their return to Italy, they found a great change. Empty airports, empty cities, quarantine imposed on the whole nation, to avoid further spread of virus infection.
The boys themselves were unable to embrace their loved ones, but to stay in quarantine to guarantee their relatives that they had no active contagion.
In this period, where contacts were only online, the boys have been very active, and have accustomed us to a presence in programs, directly from their homes.
It was pleasant for us to be able to hear and see them in the intimacy of their personal places.
Il Volo joined fundraisers for many charity works.
Many television programs have re-transmitted old concerts, and broadcasts, which we have reviewed with great pleasure.
The concerts scheduled for this summer in Europe and Italy have unfortunately been moved to next year.
It is still too early here for the concerts, even the cinemas have not yet reopened, but we hope that the November concerts in Milan, Rome and Turin will be maintained.
The quarantine period is also over and we were able to see the first outings of Gian, Piero and Ignazio’s house, wearing the obligatory masks.
Now things have improved here and in some regions, especially in the south, masks are no longer mandatory, but use is required for places such as shops or during outdoor gatherings, where, however, distance is always a must .
It’s summer, it’s very hot, and it’s really difficult to keep your distance and wear masks, but we have to do it, to guarantee ourselves and others.
Ignazio Piero and Gianluca, now, are much more difficult to be found, they are less present on social networks, they have resumed their normal post-quarantine life.
Gianluca met his twin friends.😁
Piero has turned 27. AUGURI!!❤️
Ignazio dedicates himself to new interests with Floki Production and Nico Arezzo.😉
In the last few days, a film music great Ennio Morricone has passed away. Il Volo remembered Morricone, who was a great composer of film music, with this video and this beautiful dedication.
Music today has suffered a great loss.
Thanks for everything, Master.
In last few days, our boys met after three months, on the occasion of the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show.
I would say that Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca are really in excellent shape.
What about the fantastic presentation video of the Dolce & Gabbana collection?
Beautiful clothes, beautiful environment and fantastic music !!
Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca said during the forced quarantine that they were working on various projects and that they were in constant contact with each other to develop beautiful ideas.
We really hope that all this time and all the concerts postponed, will bring us beautiful and interesting things for the future of Il Volo.
So things here in Italy seem to improve, but every day we receive truly alarming news of the contagion in the US.
We understand very well what you are all going through and we are close to you.
In the US the numbers are terrible, how many dead, how many infected, certainly everything is relative as regards the numbers, but they are really thousands of lives and we still don’t know how to stop this devious pandemic.
Time will pass, before we can breathe a sigh of relief, time will pass, before returning to talk only about good concerts.
But that time will come!!!
Tell me how you are going through this period.
Hugs to all: Daniela 🤗
Credit to owners of all photos and videos.
Come in and share the love of life, friends and Il Volo!
