YOU’VE GOT MAIL (C’è posta per te) by Daniela

On Saturday 4 February, Il Volo was a guest on the “C’è posta per te” program hosted by Maria De Filippi (she also hosts Amici) on Canale 5.
It was a very long episode and Il Volo was the guest of the last story, therefore it was broadcast immediately after midnight. So it was a long wait, but it was worth it, beyond what the program is, for many considered a tearjerker, the presence of our boys was remarkable. 😘
In the long translation I have omitted nothing, not even the long letters from the daughters that Maria has read, making our sweet boys wait. I also tried to explain how the format of this program works, putting explanations in brackets that could help you understand.😉
I’m sure you will like it a lot.
Happy viewing and happy reading to all of you.

You’ve Got Mail video – Click Here

The video begins with Maria de Filippi introducing a video.
MARIA= Let’s start with a film.
(A video starts with the inscription: Piero, Gianluca, Ignazio, the singing artists that the world envies us, Il Volo, 14 years of success).
PIERO in the video= Now we are really three brothers.
GIANLUCA in the video = We grew up together, a truly unique alchemy was created.
IGNAZIO in the video = Our goal has always been to bring the Italian tradition, through music, to more stages and different cultures.
GIANLUCA in the video = You have to persevere, because you can truly reach the furthest dream. We believed it and we still believe it and we are dreaming, truly hoping to continue and be together for many more years.
(the inscription appears on the video: Great success Christmas in Jerusalem)
IGNAZIO in the video= During World Youth Day, we had the honor of singing for Pope Francis.
PIERO in the video = It’s an emotion that we will tell our grandchildren, that we will tell for the rest of our lives.
(On the video the inscription: We are three completely different personalities, and this is precisely our strength)
MARIA= Il Volo, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca. (Applause welcomes the entrance of the three singers)

MARIA= You are very elegant. ☺
PIERO= Hello. We agreed (on what to wear – hugs and kisses)
IGNAZIO= I couldn’t introduce myself, inelegant. 😁
MARIA= (to Ignazio) You are in perfect shape.
IGNAZIO= I’m trying, after two years of stopping, I’m starting again to …..
MARIA= I really mean it, since I last saw you you’re…..
IGNAZIO = Thank you! Then I believe it. 😁
MARIA= Look, then I have an eye in calculating the weight, you’ve dropped at least 5 kilos.
IGNAZIO= It could be, you know!
MARIA= You look great. 😉
IGNAZIO= Thank you. (visibly pleased and also embarrassed)
MARIA= (turning to Piero and Gianluca) Excuse me, but it was right to compliment him.
IGNAZIO= I’m happy about it, but you must know (addressing the audience) that her favorite is Piero, so…..(laughter) 😁
MARIA= (She puts her hand on Piero’s shoulder and says to Ignazio) What a nuisance you are. 😁
PIERO= He always falls there…
MARIA= And they suffer…..
PIERO= Eh, they’re jealous….😁
MARIA= Gianluca minus, it’s Ignazio…..
GIANLUCA= It’s Ignazio, he always says so ….
IGNAZIO= She is the most envied woman in Italy (there was a time when the newspapers named Maria that way), she loves Piero and I’m a little jealous.
(Maria kisses Piero, applause) 😁
MARIA= Sit down,
I let Valentina and Simona in.
(Maria introduces the two women who sent the request to the program, the girls have already met Il Volo backstage)
Valentina and Simona are here for their dad.
When I met Valentina she told me:
“In April (2022) we lost mom, we don’t want to lose dad too. I feel bad, I feel like crying and the same thing goes for my sister, every time dad tells us this sentence.
– You two go ahead for your girls, it makes no sense for me to continue staying here, I want to go to my mother and join her –
The love between my father and my mother was a special love, a unique love, there was never a quarrel, they lived in symbiosis, I can tell you that mom was dad’s only woman, and dad was only man in mom’s life.
It’s September 2021 when mom starts having a cough, the doctors give her syrup, in January this cough is insistent, actually worsened, so a CT scan is done, a diagnosis is made shortly thereafter, and the diagnosis is horrible. Mom has emergency surgery, mom has fluid in her lungs, mom loses 20 kilos, mom ends up in a wheelchair. The doctors talked, mom understood what was happening and what was going to happen, I too, dad didn’t.
Dad kept saying mom would get better, and the doctors said so too.
Mom is always in the hospital, but once she manages to get out, and that time she’s not in the wheelchair, she’s standing and me, my sister and dad, we even take her on a trip. She was hospitalized in Milan, we live in Sardinia, before she was hospitalized again, I have to go back to Sardinia because of commitments with my little girls. I talk to mom, that day we hug, mom says this sentence to me:
-Please take care of Dad and Aunt Betty too – We take two photographs and they will be the last two photos I have with mum.
Shortly thereafter, the hospital calls me and tells me that mom is no longer here. (Ignazio rests his hand on the girl’s shoulder).
Dad always looks at mom’s pictures, dad listens to mom’s voicemails every night and keeps telling us he wants to join her. Both my sister and I look at the photographs, both my sister and I listen to mum’s messages, we miss mum too, but if life has taken mum from us, at least let dad stay with us.”
(Now Maria turns to Il Volo).
You are here because, despite your young age, to help in such a circumstance …. because they respect you so much, including their mum and dad too. 😘
Let’s see the mail delivery.
(The external video begins, which demonstrates that the message in a sealed envelope is delivered to the interested party. Whoever receives it cannot open the envelope and to accept it must say the phrase: There is an email for you.)
POSTMAN= Hi Maria, today I’m in Villaspeciosa, a town in the province of Cagliari, to deliver your invitation to Mr. Gianfranco.
I go!
I’m Giovanni, the postman from You’ve Got Mail, I’m looking for Mr. Gianfranco.
GIANFRANCO= It’s me.
POSTMAN= Very pleased, Signor Gianfranco. I think I have an invitation from Mrs. Maria De Filippi for you. (Now the postman always asks a couple of questions to understand if he is really the person he is looking for)
I know that you were born in January.
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
POSTMAN= And I also know that he worked as a school operator.
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
POSTMAN= Ok, then I’ll give you the invitation from Mrs. Maria De Filippi. At the end of a delivery we always say one thing:
GIANFRANCO= There’s mail for you! (applauded)
MARIA= So, you three stand there, you move there. (Maria hides Il Volo next to the envelope, so that Gianfranco does not see them)
Are you ready? (to the girls)
So….. Giovanni (the postman).
POSTMAN= Yes, Maria.
MARIA= Mr. Gianfranco did accept the invitation?
POSTMAN = Yes, Maria, Mr. Gianfranco has accepted the invitation and is here with us. Please. (applause, Mr. Gianfranco enters).
GIANFRANCO= Good evening, Signora Maria.
MARIA= How are you? You take a seat.
(Dad Gianfranco sits down, the envelope is closed and he doesn’t see who is on the other side.)
MARIA= We can use TU, Gianfranco is it ok? (For the Italian language it is not polite, even if it is now very common, to talk to a person you know little using TU =YOU, for Italian it is more polite to use LEI, but nowadays everyone uses TU).
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
MARIA= So, soon we’ll see who sends for you (The envelope is opened and the protagonist sees who sent him the invitation who must not speak at that moment. Once the protagonist sees who invited him, he can decide whether to make him talk or not).
GIANFRANCO= Yes.
MARIA= You look and then you tell me if you want to listen.
Are you agitated?
GIANFRANCO= A little. It’s normal.
MARIA= Right. We opened the envelope.
GIANFRANCO= Yes. (the envelope is opened and Gianfranco sees the two daughters, there is emotion, applause)
MARIA= Don’t we leave them in silence?
GIANFRANCO= No, no, sure.
MARIA= Please.
VALENTINA= Dad, since mom is gone, we see so much sadness in your eyes, and this hurts us so much.
We know well the suffering you find, because it is the same that we feel too. Hearing you say certain things makes our hearts ache, because even if we are adults, we still need you so much. (appaluses)
SIMONA= Dad we miss you so much, even Martina (granddaughter) who isn’t here with us today, but you know she loves you madly. It’s difficult for us too and please dad, you have to react. If you can’t do it for yourself and us, do it for mom. What she could not do, we will do together (applause). Remember that all of this is what mom would have wanted. ❤
(Children enter, scattering leaves on the floor where lanterns are lit)
MARIA= (She reads the thoughts of Gianfranco’s daughters)
We can find her in our prayers, in the memories that everyone keeps in their hearts, but if we want to embrace her we can’t do it anymore. Instead you dad, luckily, you’re still here, we can see you and hug you as many times as we want. Yes, you’re here, but since that very sad April morning when the call from the hospital matron came, it’s as if you weren’t here anymore either.
For months your heart has been covered in a layer of pain, like the forest in winter, when it’s covered in leaves. If before you were the chatterbox of the house, now you are always silent, sleep little, eat little, live to visit mom at the cemetery.
Sometimes we find you in the garage crying, or in the bedroom, with the red jacket and her brush in your hands. Not to mention all the times you abandon yourself on the sofa to listen to her voice stored on your cell phone a thousand times, and afterwards you find no peace, on the contrary, you feel melancholy and the pain of living growing, because you reproach yourself for not having insisted on mother’s medical check-ups, which she put off because of the cost.
You say you should have done more, and you are convinced that if she hadn’t been in the hospital, but at home with you, maybe she would still be with us. Unfortunately it’s not like that dad, the disease would have taken her away anyway, you don’t need to live guilt that you don’t have. Your beautiful eyes that used to always laugh, are now dull and sad and what’s worse is that they have stopped being curious about the lives of the people around you. We know you love us dearly, but lately you’ve been repeating that it doesn’t make sense for you to be in the world anymore, that we have to go on for our girls and that you just want to join mom where she went. But you still have a reason to live dad, just look up and address it to us. We too are always your little girls, Martina is missing tonight, but with her heart she is here beside us, we are blood of your blood and we are the best you and mum could have done together. We have brought you here, because we hope that an evening like this will be able to rekindle that little flame inside you which is called “the will to live”, even if we are adults, we need to find comfort in your arms and to draw strength from your words. You and mom were a special couple, between you only jokes, kisses, hugs and kindness, but every time you tell us that you would like to go to her, we end up crying, because you know how sorry you cause us and in fact you always apologize to us, before retiring to your room.
Death is something that affects all human beings, dad, that day will come too, but now it’s early, you have to be strong, we’re here to protect you from the cold and shelter you from sadness, as if we were your umbrella. You are only 62, your place is next to us. (applause – children enter carrying rain protected by umbrellas)
Dad, you feel lost without a horizon, but we’re here to remind you who you are. You are our example, you are our lighthouse, you are our guide, now more than ever we ask you to stand together and move forward, that there is a life waiting for you. If mom were in the world, she wouldn’t waste a single minute. Do as she would, listen to our words, and allow yourself to be comforted by our love. You are a wonderful father who dedicated his life to his family, now it’s your family that wants to dedicate itself to you. You are not a burden to anyone, you just have to agree to lean on us when you feel that you can’t do it alone.
Over time, our happy scenes will return, the fishing trips together, the walks in the mountains looking for mushrooms, and why not, there will also be moments of recollection to look at mum’s photos and if we feel like crying, we will on each other’s shoulders. It will take time, and no one rushes you, but we promise you that if you know how to look for it, you too will come back to see the sun and the rainbow too, the desire to get up in the morning to make your bed or play tricks on someone will come back, on us, as you always have.
We understand that your life without  mum is over, but also that a new time can begin with us, one full of surprises and emotions. Please dad, don’t let the dark win, send away the bad thoughts and let only the good ones in from now on. (applause – the children come in and bring the sun).
We never told you, but really thank you dad, because you made us live life in color, even if we never sailed in gold at home, you and mom never made us miss anything, from material things to warm hugs. When summer came, we little girls would see everyone at the beach and not to be less, you would take us too, then you would take advantage of it to fish and sell the little fish and make some money, or you would stop with mum to pick oranges and also sell those to round up (make some money).
It took you a lifetime to pay off your home loan, and you must be proud of yourself, because you have always been an honest man, a smiling father, a husband with a quick answer and full of passion. Now you even give up going fishing with the excuse that there’s no more mom to cook fish, actually the two of us at the stove cooking fish are a disaster, the face you made this Christmas says a lot, when we managed to burn the whole dinner. You couldn’t believe it, but deep down, you can’t deny that we always put our hearts into it, like you taught us. You are the one who, when the harvest period arrived, came back with the small tractor full of grapes, while we waited for you next to the basin in the garden, with bare feet and laughing like crazy. You are the one who went around the rooms at night to check that we were well covered and kissed us on the forehead. You are the one who when Simona broke up with her husband, you ran to get her and the baby and brought them home to mom and told her not to worry, that you would take care of everything. You are the one who, when I had a little too pressing a suitor, came down under the house, and faced him with a hard face, and he disappeared in a second.
You’re the one who didn’t love animals, and who now takes care of mom’s cats, with such dedication that we’re even jealous. You are the one who taught us to ride a bike without wheels, to drive a car, to do a thousand other things.
In the name of all this, we will never give up on you. We’re here to help you find a little glow in all this winter, because we miss you and because we would like to come back to see you laughing like you did when there was mom who called you Frankie and made fun of you, because she said you were a little goofy, that you were obsessed with order and washing your hands every five minutes. We’re waiting for you dad, but without hurry, your smiles will come back when you feel like doing them, meanwhile with your permission, we’ll carry on, and we’ll start to turn on some light and joy right now. (applause – children enter carrying balloons of light)
It’s true that we’re here to ask you to make a great effort, because it’s hard for you to take your life back, but in return we’re ready to make important promises to you.
We have the habit of arriving perpetually late, you rightly get annoyed and tonight we promise you it won’t happen again.
Do you believe it? Nod your head yes or no. (Dad nods yes)
GIANFRANCO= Yes, I believe it.
MARIA= Ok. (applause). I, who am Valentina, I promise you that I won’t get distracted anymore when I’m driving and every time I almost touch the mirrors of other cars, and you’re fine attached to the door handles, terrified that we’re going to crash. If you believe it, do yes with your head. (dad nods yes)
I promise you I’ll learn to count to ten, instead of talking right away without thinking, you’ve always told me, I never learn. If you believe in it, nod your head. (dad nods yes) 😘
Now it’s my turn dad, I’m Simona, I ask your forgiveness dad if I’m a landslide in the kitchen, like the other night when I took the vegetables out of the oven and they slipped on the floor and we’ve made up for it with the salad, give me time and you’ll see one day you will be proud of me.
If you believe in it, nod your head. (dad nods yes) 😘
Dad, you and I are shy, and for this reason we hug little or nothing. From this evening I promise you that our hugs will be too many, and that maybe you won’t be able to anymore, but maybe you’ll understand that, you are everything, but not a burden to us. Now to show you that life is anything but certain, do you want to make the last bet with us?
With mom we would have won for sure, but if you think of her and see them (Il Volo), you’ll see that a beautiful smile will return. All you have to do is look at the ladder in front of you.
(the music of Grande Amore starts, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio, they descend the stairs, applause) 😘😘😘

 (Big kisses and hugs from Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio to Gianfranco, who reciprocates with pleasure. Everyone sits down)
IGNAZIO= Well, then, you saw what a nice present.
GIANFRANCO= Yes!
IGNAZIO= Sfera Ebbasta was better though! 😁 (Ignazio’s usual joker, Sfera Ebbasta is an Italian rapper singer).
GIANFRANCO= No!
IGNAZIO= When we heard about your story, I felt it very personally, because two years ago, I too lost my dad …….and..(applause) …. stay back there , hearing your story, I have seen myself a lot, I know how you felt as a family, but trying to reach someone who is physically no longer there is impossible, because we have people who need us. ❤
GIANFRANCO= Sure.
IGNAZIO= And in this case I need my mom, I can’t lose my mom, also because then there’s that son-like selfishness that says:
“I need you, where are you going?” ❤ (applause)
GIANFRANCO= Sure, sure.
IGNAZIO= Because you have always been our point of reference.  ❤ (applause).

PIERO= Allow me to tell you that you are absolutely not alone, we have met your daughters, we have not yet met the other girl (the niece), but they are wonderful people and they love you so much. We are young, and we know how essential parental support can be, and therefore you have a great duty now, to enjoy your daughters and granddaughters. 😘
GIANFRANCO= Yes, my nieces too.
PIERO= I recommend you. (applause)
GIANLUCA= We are happy to have kept you even a little company, with our music, and then we obviously, we are young, we still have so much to learn from life, but I would like to say one thing that, as we all know, no one is immune in life to the pain of suffering and the unpredictability of life that cannot be controlled. (applause)
Surely, however, it is not true that we only live once, because we live every day, and we have the task of making our life wonderful for ourselves and for the people around us, and we owe them love as much as possible. (applause) 😘
IGNAZIO= Anyway, we first  knew your daughters….we didn’t try, I swear….😁
PIERO= Also because they were crying (when they met them backstage), they were just crying.
GIANLUCA= We have a small gift, because we know you have a great passion. (He holds a small model of VESPA in his hand) With this you can fly…. you see the flight (pun intended) always comes back….
PIERO= Explain it well….then, we have the pleasure of giving you the real one, this is a model because we couldn’t bring the real one here. ☺
IGNAZIO= Also because they haven’t done the three-seater one yet.
PIERO= But in the real one you’ll find at home, there will be the picnic trunk, so you can bring your grandchildren and children.. ok?
GIANFRANCO = Thank you!
IGNAZIO= Piero and I have it (the Vespa). I’m a Vespa aficionado, with my beautiful fifty (Vespa engine capacity), the old one, I go around and it helps me a lot, because it helps me to be alone with myself and who is no longer there, and to converse with who I want. ❤
PIERO= Also because you live in a place, in a wonderful land, Sardinia.
IGNAZIO= “Aiò, pane carasau “ 😁
(is a word in Sardinian dialect, pane carasau is the typical bread of Sardinia  )
GIANFRANCO= Have you ever tasted it?
IGNAZIO= Of course, indeed I will come to see you, I still have to eat the “porceddu” which drives me crazy. (pork cooked in the Sardinian way)
PIERO= (He corrects the pronunciation of Ignazio who said it in the Sicilian way and not in the Sardinian way.)
GIANLUCA= You said it in Sicilian, be careful! 😁
PIERO= Have you ever been to Sicily?
GIANFRANCO= My mom is Sicilian.
PIERO= From where?
IGNAZIO= Don’t tell me about Naro! 😁😁
GIANFRANCO= Between Messina and near Santo Stefano di Camastra.
PIERO= Ah, Santo Stefano di Camastra.
GIANFRANCO= Country of ceramics.
IGNAZIO= Maria, you must know that wherever we go in the world, everywhere, there is always a person from Naro. But I swear to you. 😁
PIERO= (He explains to Maria) It’s the town where I live. 😘
IGNAZIO = (He imitates the people he meets in the world)
“I’m Sicilian, my family is Sicilian.”
Where from?
“Of Naro!” 😁😁😁 (laughter and applause)
MARIA= Valentina do you want to say something else?
VALENTINA= Yes.
MARIA= Go
VALENTINA= Dad today you have to make me a promise, we want to see you smile again like you used to, can you promise us?
GIANFRANCO= (with a lump in his throat) I promise you, but it’s a bit tough. (applause)
VALENTINA= I know.
GIANFRANCO= I will commit myself.
MARIA= Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero, get ready, because when I open the envelope, they sing.
IGNAZIO= We want to dedicate this song to you.
GIANGFRANCO= Thank you, thank you.
IGNAZIO= It’s one of those songs that you can give the meaning you want, and personally, when we sing it in concerts, I use it to be close to whoever I want. (he touches his heart) So we dedicate it to all of you.
GIANFRANCO = Thank you.
MARIA= Let’s open the envelope. (Valentina and Simona hug their father while Gianluca starts singing Hallelujah, a very touching moment.)
At the end, kisses and hugs between Piero, Ignazio, Gianluca and Gianfranco and his daughters who compliment the boys as they embrace them)
IGNAZIO= I had prepared myself earlier and had brought a spare (He gives a handkerchief to Valentina)
MARIA= Guys, you were very good, but I mean not only in singing, which is obvious, but also in your way of approaching him, you spoke like children, and you spoke with such sincerity, especially you Ignazio.
IGNAZIO= Thank you.
Final greetings.
What can I say, as always I’m speechless. When I wait for Il Volo as a guest in a program, I expect a lot from them, but my expectations are duly confirmed, indeed, they give even more than what I expect.
I begin by saying that they immediately appeared beautiful, elegant, in excellent shape, something Maria also noticed. Very polite, they listened to the long explanation and the long beautiful letters from the girls and read by Maria.
They gave Gianfranco big hugs of support and were able to say beautiful, moving, heartfelt words, Ignazio was particularly touching and sweet.
They sang impeccably and conducted everything with elegance, sympathy, education and love.
Even Maria, who usually isn’t the type to give many comments, wanted to congratulate them saying nice words, because these guys deserve it, they are a great example for those who see and listen to them, not just singing.
I want to finish with the translation of this short video shot backstage.

C’è Posta Per . . . IL VOLO

IGNAZIO= The elements of the family become truly indispensable. Perhaps Gianfranco must understand that it is essential for his daughters to have him in their life.
PIERO= We have to congratulate Ignazio, because he said some beautiful words.
IGNAZIO= I have a past that is very similar to theirs, I lived almost the same thing with my mother. The nice thing is that you become even more united.
GIANLUCA= If people occasionally remembered that, unfortunately, no one is truly immune to pain and suffering, we would also live a more peaceful life, without malice, without envy, because it is too much bigger than us, and the family must be united when above all, unpredictable things happen to us.
IGNAZIO= Often, where words fail, music arrives, you can also not speak and sing and this makes things easier for us.
PIERO= We are happy to have brought a smile to Gianfranco and his splendid daughters.

Again I am speechless, they have all my respect and admiration.
I love them. ❤❤❤

INTERVIEW WITH IL VOLO IN JAPAN by Keisyuu

Today I come back to you with a nice interview.
It is not a simple Italian interview, far from it. In August 2022, Il Volo went to Japan for three concerts, this interview was released the day before the last concert, of course it’s all written in Japanese and I don’t know anything about this language, but our Chinese friend Xinjie, that you have already met here in Flight Crew in two posts : (https://ilvoloflightcrw.com/2019/06/03/capri-history-of-a-meeting/), (https://ilvoloflightcrw.com/2019/07/05/roma-my-first-concert-by-xinjie/) and that you see here in the photo together with Il Volo and two other fans in Capri.

Xinjie contacted me telling me that she translated an interview for a friend and then she thought that the same interview could be appreciated by all the readers of Flight Crew and all the fans of Il Volo, so she sent me the beautiful translation.
From now on, Xinjie will be our eastern correspondent, under the name of KEISYUU. ☺
Thank you on behalf of all, all fans will appreciate this read!! ☺😘

INTERVIEW WITH IL VOLO IN JAPAN

Japanese fans are very polite and elegant. The strong love from everyone can be clearly felt even on stage. (Gianluca)
INTERVIEW: YUKO KATO

I interviewed them the morning before the show in Nagoya. This time, there was also a live recording at Kiyomizu Temple, and Il Volo stayed in Japan for a long time. They had plenty of time to enjoy Japan. What was troubling was the heat of summer in Japan, and even at Kiyomizu Temple, the makeup was ruined by the dripping sweat, and had to be fixed for each song. Because of that, the three got tired of the heat. Just before the interview, the location was changed to a hotel, therefore photography was not allowed.

On the other hand, they enjoyed Japanese cuisine. “Those boys would be happy every day if they eat sushi”, I was told so by people involved. But in addition to sushi, it seems that they have discovered new favorites such as okonomiyaki.

Well, much earlier than the interview time, Piero comes first. Next is Gianluca. And Ignazio is on the verge. Ignazio, who was greeted with a cold gaze from both of them, “Isn’t it just the correct time!? I’m not late,” he said, showing off his watch and making a big appeal. The two smiled wryly. Probably he’s always doing it.

— I heard that you recorded a live video at Kiyomizu Temple without audience,  I wanted to see it live.

Piero Barone: It was a great experience. We make music called bel canto, which is an Italian tradition, and thanks to bel canto, we can sing in many beautiful places. This is also true in Italy, and again we can sing in a very beautiful temple in Japan. Kiyomizu Temple is the most important temple in Kyoto and has a great history, so it was really an honor to sing in such a wonderful place. It’s a very small place, so we couldn’t let the audience in, but I hope you enjoy what we’ve done by watching the video. Personally, I feel that Japanese culture and Italian culture are very compatible. Anyway, it has become an unforgettable memory for a lifetime, and I will continue to talk about live performances at Kiyomizu Temple in the future.

— How did you feel about performing at a Buddhist temple?

PIero: We respect all religions. In fact, before the performance, we asked the monk of the temple to offer a prayer. Honestly, I didn’t understand what was said.. ( bitter smile). But we also have a lot of respect for that.

— But the high temperature and humidity made it difficult for you, didn’t they? You spent nearly 4 hours in the heat, right?

Gianluca: No, it didn’t affect the singing. But it was hard for the hair! That was the only problem (laughs).

Everyone: (laughs).

Gianluca: Two years ago we gave a Christmas concert at St. Peter’s Basilica in front of the Pope, and it was very cold. It was harder back then. Personally, it’s much harder to sing in the cold than it is to sing in the heat.

Ignazio: By the way, the performance at Kiyomizu Temple started recording around 9pm and ended around 1am.

Gianluca: Everything was perfect for us. It is the first time that overseas artists perform at Kiyomizu Temple. It is truly an honor and I will never forget it.

— When is this video going to be distributed?

Piero: It will be in September. (Note: Published on September 18)

— We’ll look forward to it. By the way, I recently released “Grande Amore” featuring Japan’s Little Glee Monster. Whose idea was this?

Piero: It was originally an idea from the label, but we also like Little Glee Monster very much that we wanted to collaborate.

Ignazio: We’ve wanted to collaborate on Grande Amore with Japanese artists for a couple of years. And have already done the same thing with the Brazilian and German artists. When we told the Japanese label about it, they looked for different artists and we chose Little Glee Monster.

— Did you actually meet these girls?

Piero: No, unfortunately we didn’t. We invited them to our show, and they’re also on the tour right now.

— That’s a pity.

Ignazio: It’s the first tour after years, so that’s actually a good thing! Because of the pandemic, we spent our days without doing anything at home.

— The Tokyo and Osaka shows are over, how did the audience react?

Gianluca: It was fantastic, the Japanese fans have always given us so much love from the first day, it is exactly the “Grande Amore”. Japanese audiences are very different from audiences in other countries.

— Oh, really? How?

Gianluca: Japanese fans are very polite and elegant. They have the utmost respect for artists, and the strong love from everyone can be clearly felt even on stage. I feel that Japanese culture and traditions are very unique in all aspects, and it means so much to us that Japanese people show so much love for Italian artists on the other side of the world.

— You have prepared a special set list for Japan, right?

PIero: Oh, yes. We talked to the conductor and the orchestra and changed the set list a little bit. Japanese fans prefer classical and symphonic songs, so we sing songs that we don’t do in other countries. As a result, it became a very long set.

— There are 28 songs in all.

PIero: Yes, that’s a pretty long show. But that’s how we love to sing on stage. We love sharing our music with everyone and we always want to do something special for our fans in Japan.

— Singing 28 songs for 2 hours non-stop is amazing.

Ignazio: Every night.

Gianluca: Just like football players. Some players play non-stop for 90 minutes. Of course, we don’t miss our daily training, too. It’s our job, also our passion. This is our lifestyle.

— Can you tell me the highlights of the show?

Piero: Uhmm…For me it’s the first song. You get on stage and see all sorts of new faces, I like to see everyone’s facial expressions that shine brightly when I start singing the first song. We’ve had great reactions in Tokyo and Osaka, and I hope we get the same reactions here in Nagoya.

— I’ve read a few live reviews by fans, and some have said they were so emotional that they brought tears to their eyes.

Piero: I’m glad for that.

Ignazio: At the beginning of the show, I always say, “Tonight is going to be a night full of emotions. I want you to have a lot of fun, to be emotional, to cry, to laugh. “ That’s the right way. You can be emotional, you can have fun, and that’s the beauty of our music. We love what we do and we do it with passion. Of course it’s a business, but before that there’s a lot of passion and love for music.

Gianluca: We’re doing this music for the elderly who’ve been hearing bel canto and the Three Tenors, and for the younger generation who don’t know that. We want to follow those whom we respect and convey this genre to the future.

— Japanese young people don’t listen to classical music very much, so that’s the problem.

Gianluca: It’s the same in any country, it’s normal. This genre is not so commercial. Pop has always been commercial, while classical is not. Even in this way, the existence of The Three Tenors has prevailed in the world.

Piero: (Luciano) Pavarotti at the top of the list.

Ignazio: The younger generation grew up listening to commercial music from the time they were born, so it’s hard to let them listen to classical music. The music used in TikTok, Instagram, etc. is also easy to listen to. Like rap or electronics. So, there are a lot of young people who don’t know this kind of music, and they have to discover it by themselves. Of course, I’m not saying that you should only listen to this kind of music, but I think it’s best to listen to a variety of music, but I also want them to listen to this kind of music we do, and through that, I hope them can get a sense of comfort and feel a lot of emotion. I’m not saying it’s wrong to listen to commercial music.

Gianluca: Yeah, we listen to a lot of music ourselves. From Elton John to Elvis Presley, The Weekend, Michael Jackson…

Ignazio: Ariana Grande, Drake…

Gianluca: Yes, that’s right. We listen to everything. Music is a part of our life.

We’re currently working on a very big new project while touring (Piero)

— Do you (Piero) also listen to music other than opera? I can’t imagine…

PIero: Certainly. After all, I have the strongest passion for opera, but as a singer, I have to broaden my horizons while listening to other genres of music!

Gianluca: Can you imagine listening to only one genre in your life? You can also say that about food. It’s like that I go to Japan and look for Italian restaurants. If you only eat the same food, only listen to the same music, you can’t grow and can’t expand your horizons. You have to try a lot of things anyway. Regardless of the genre, you should enjoy good quality music and good food.

Ignazio: Because you may be the one who limits yourself the most. I have to get rid of it first.

— Ignazio, you’re interested in producing, aren’t you?

Ignazio: Yes, I am interested, and I hope to do it someday. I’m not ready to do it alone yet. We work with a lot of producers and we learn a lot from them.

— Gianluca, you’ve taken acting lessons, but are you interested in acting?

Gianluca: Even if you are a singer, if you study acting and stage, you can become a better performer on stage.

Piero: That’s for sure.

Gianluca: For me, I started studying acting to become a better artist and to have more confidence on stage. But if I continue to practice like this, I may be blessed with the opportunity to work as an actor someday.

— And you bought a piano 3 years ago to write songs, right?

Gianluca: Yes. I have a lot of goals and things I want to do. I’m still not very good at playing the piano…

Ignazio: You’ve gotten a lot better!

Gianluca: Ah yeah, compared to before. I will resume my lesson when I get home. I hope someday I can write a song myself.

— Piero, when I first met you, you seemed very shy, but now you seem to be full of confidence.

Piero: It depends on the day (laughs). Waking up good or bad, changes the mood of the day.

Gianluca: When he looks shy, he’s just sleepy.

Piero: (laughs).

— Every time I do an interview, you announce a new project, so do you have any upcoming projects?

Piero: The last thing we did was the Morricone’s album (Il Volo Sings Morricone in ‘21), but then we went on tour and now we are on tour and working on a really big new project. But it’s too early to tell the details.

— Can you tell a little?

Piero: I can’t tell you anything. It’s a project for next year.

— Is it a new album?

Ignazio: Well~~(laughs)?

PIero: It’s going to be a big project. But we are working on it now, and it’s still a very early staircase, so unfortunately we can’t say anything.

— This tour is like Greatest Hits, not a tour of Morricone…

PIero: It also includes Morricone’s songs.

Gianluca: There are 5 Morricone songs.

Ignazio: Yes yes. We can’t do all 28 songs of Morricone. We do that plus other songs.

— When will you return to Japan next time?

Ignazio: We’ll be back next year!

Gianluca: Before that, I’d like to come back for a personal vacation.

Piero: But this time, we have plenty of time to travel around Kyoto and Tokyo. We also went to the Shinsekai of Osaka. By the way, we are going back to Italy tomorrow night, but we will go to Nagoya Castle before that. We love to explore different places.

Gianluca: also to eat a lot of traditional foods. Such as okonomiyaki.

Ignazio: Daisuki, Nippon! (I love you, Japan!)

Recorded August 12 in Nagoya.

VERISSIMO 2022 by Daniela

And here it is, my Christmas present to you all. 🎄🎁
I know you are waiting and I am late, but there have been too many events to follow during this time.

But here is the translation of VERISSIMO!!

Verissimo 2022 video – Click Here

SILVIA = They are the bearers of Italian music in the world, Piero, Ignazio, Gianluca, or Il Volo!!
(enter Il Volo)
GIAN = Can I hug you?
SILVIA = Yes, welcome back.
IGNAZIO = How are you?
SILVIA = Fine and you? Hi Piero, how are you?
Welcome back, Il Volo, how elegant you are. (everyone sits down)
GIAN = We have the same trousers, look! (Silvia and Gian are wearing wide-legged trousers, which are fashionable).

SILVIA = Yes.
IGNAZIO = Because he wanted to pay homage to the “CUGINI DI CAMPAGNA”. (It’s an Italian musical group from the 70s who always wore wide-legged trousers)
SILVIA = You are all in gray clothes.
GIAN = Today yes, but we are not gray (he means temperamentally and morally)
SILVIA = No, you all are full of passion, you are red inside.
GIAN = Red like you (she is dressed in red).
IGNAZIO = Today, when I tried it on (the suit) I thought it was beige, instead they told me it’s grey.
GIAN = You’re fine, you’re fine.
IGNAZIO = I have become colorblind.
GIAN = (turning to Ignazio) I see you in great shape, as always.
SILVIA = How are you guys? Welcome back to Verissimo.
PIERO = We met a year ago.
SILVIA = Exactly one year ago.
PIERO = A year ago things were a bit different, the concerts still didn’t take place, but finally we’re back on tour, we’re back singing on stage, to meet our audience again who have been supporting us for thirteen years now with their affection, with their love.
SILVIA = But there is another trip, which you will have to make, which you will make very soon, I know you have already been there for the rehearsals, because on December 24th, there is a wonderful event that sees you as protagonists in Jerusalem: IL Volo Natale in Jerusalem, and will be broadcast on Canale 5.
PIERO = Yes.
SILVIA = Well, Jerusalem is a symbolic city, I imagine also exciting for you.
GIAN = A city where all religions, cultures, languages really meet, visiting it is truly a unique experience, but for everyone, at all ages. Experiencing it at a young age maybe helps you really understand the difference of how humans are really different, anywhere in the world, how they really dedicate their lives to spirituality. It is truly a unique place and for us, living it has been a mystical, spiritual experience that has taught us new things.
A truly unique thing, even Jerusalem, Bethlehem, are places of great inspiration.
PIERO = We try to keep the Italians company on this special day, Christmas is a special day for everyone, and so we try to keep everyone company.
SILVIA = And even more on Christmas Eve, because it’s the wait for Christmas…Ignazio, did you wait for Santa Claus when you were little?
IGNAZIO = No, I was waiting for dinner more. (laughter and applause)
SILVIA = How to ruin a poem!!
GIAN = Exactly, like ruining a poem…..
IGNAZIO = No, I’ve always liked gifts, but full plates even more.
SILVIA = Those even more, anyway, obviously to celebrate your return, I prepared some little gifts and I didn’t make a gift for everyone but a gift for each one of you.
GIAN = Indeed!!
PIERO = Ohhh
SILVIA = I’ll start with Gianluca. (a video dedicated to Gianluca starts)
Gianluca’s voice in the video: It all started as children.
I remember the first moments we didn’t know how to deal with the cameras.
In ten years life has changed us in an incredible way.
We are proud to be the only young people to bring this style of music anyway, because it all started with the great Luciano Pavarotti, the three tenors, Andrea Bocelli, so we try to follow in their footsteps.
Affections are often neglected, if at a young age we have this awareness, it allows us to live the moments more intensely, especially with the family, where everything started from there.
A mother, a brother, a father, a grandfather, will always be waiting for you, even if you are away for months.
I must say that I have a wonderful relationship with my grandfather Ernesto, and one of the most indelible memories, in 2012 grandfather came to New York and saw me sing with Barbra Streisand.
I always carry my past with me.
Reflect when you wake up each morning in different cities or even in different countries.
I see the people at concerts who are there, they are there for me, for us. (applause)
GIAN = A nice present, thank you.
SILVIA = You were a child.
GIAN = Well, little has changed, and then now they make fun of me (Ignazio and Piero) because I removed my beard and let my hair grow like when I was a child.
SILVIA = (addressing Piero and Ignazio) What are you two doing?
GIAN = Have you seen they always do this when I talk, they talk to each other, it’s not easy for me….
PIERO = (he and Ignazio are teasing Gianluca good-naturedly) The camera is over there. (they do this to say that Gianluca is always looking for the camera)

GIAN = See how they make fun of me??
SILVIA = They are imitating you….
GIAN = They imitate me.
IGNAZIO = But he was like that….
SILVIA = Was he like that when he was little?
IGNAZIO = It was impressive, the first few times, when a photographer, or a camera followed us, when turned on the camera…. (Ignazio suddenly turns his face and strikes a pose like Gianluca did).
GIAN = Then I understood why I did it.
SYLVIA = Why?
GIAN = Because when one is insecure, he needs confirmation. I also have to acknowledge, with hindsight, that looking at me as a child, I feel a certain tenderness, because in any case seeing how we grew up together, how we faced life, recognizing one’s limits, or trying to overcome them, trying to be the best version of themselves. But I’ve always remained a bit narcissistic, oh well but it’s normal (he turns to Piero and Ignazio who exchange knowing glances to confirm), but you always make fun of me for this.
PIERO = But these are our characteristics, we have three completely different personalities and perhaps it is also our strength.
SILVIA = Do you know that Gianluca studies acting? True?
GIAN = I had a very nice experience with some guys, also to try to have a little more control on stage, I was a bit stiff, I’ve always been.
IGNAZIO = Now it’s more flexible…..
GIAN = No, but really…..
IGNAZIO = Especially when he dances he is less rigid…. (he makes fun of Gian because he doesn’t know how to dance)
GIAN = I don’t know how to dance for example…
SILVIA = Can’t you dance?
GIAN = But acting is a passion that I love to cultivate, you never know, in life….
SILVIA = So maybe you would also like to act one day?
GIAN = Why not, why not.
SILVIA = What do your colleagues think?
IGNAZIO = Never limit yourself in life, because the greatest limitation of ourselves is ourselves.
SILVIA = Ah, you see?
IGNAZIO = Why limit yourself?
PIERO = But where did this sentence come from?
IGNAZIO = From my pearls of wisdom (applause)
SILVIA = Then it’s your turn (Ignazio).
IGNAZIO = To me?
SILVIA = Are you ready? It’s up to you.
IGNAZIO = Yes.
SILVIA = You too grew up with them, you too.
IGNAZIO = Oh yes.
SILVIA = In short, you shared beautiful moments, less beautiful moments, with your working family, we can say.
IGNAZIO = Absolutely.
SILVIA = Are you ready?
IGNAZIO = Yes, let’s see! I’m a little worried…..
Ignazio’s voice in the video = As a little boy every day I made my mother scream, I came from school, I ate, if I had homework I did it, when I did it, and I went behind my house because we built huts. Everything was better.
Our life is divided like a sheet divided in half: Ignazio in his life with Il Volo, and Ignazio in his private life.
Two parallel lives.
But thanks also to our parents, we always manage to keep simplicity in both lives.
Your Love is a song that means a lot to us, because we performed in Sanremo three days after my father’s death and it means a lot to me.
I haven’t lost my father, my father is always with me, well, I like to think like this.
Many ask us:
“But aren’t you afraid, afraid of the public?”, it’s all adrenaline.
There have been many difficult moments in our career, it has never been all sunshine and roses.
It’s also nice to experience things with a little ingenuity. (applause)
IGNAZIO = When I was thin.
PIERO = What subject Ignazio.
SILVIA = Oh yes. Well I have to say that reviewing that performance (Your Love) with them by your side, I got goosebumps.
IGNAZIO = It had a bit of an effect on me too, I haven’t seen it for a while, I’ve really never seen it, it’s the first time, but yes, it has an effect.
SILVIA = There your friends really gathered around you.
IGNAZIO = I’ll tell you the truth, I’m one of those people who thinks that the people closest to you are not seen in times of need, but in times of happiness, because anyway in times of need, anyone can come there and give you a hand out of tenderness, pity, anything. It is in difficult moments that it is more difficult to rejoice for a friend.
SILVIA = And you call yourself Libra, because you are from Libra by zodiac sign, but spongy, what does that mean?
IGNAZIO = But then you’ve read the book, eh!!
Spongy Libra, it’s all those people who, like me, absorb all the energies, negative, positive, whatever, and we keep everything inside, so as not to explode, to seek balance in our lives, but above all in that of others. However I am a person who likes to see happy people, I would do anything to see happy people, neglecting my happiness, more often than not. So, spongy Libra because we always try to make others happy and never think about ourselves.
SILVIA = And you don’t even vent with them, with Piero or Gianluca?
IGNAZIO = Not much.
SILVIA = Do you keep everything inside?
IGNAZIO = Absolutely.
SILVIA = But at a certain point you have to tell….
IGNAZIO = Yes, but that’s exactly the flaw, I like being a spongy Libra, but then the flaw is just that, I get to a point…..
SILVIA = (turning to Piero) And you don’t try to make him talk?
PIERO = This is one of his positive characteristics, for the group, because you know, sometimes not everything can be said, not everything one thinks. However, perhaps he stays silent for a long time and then tells you everything to your face, but the beautiful thing about Ignazio is that he tells you the truth, and you know that when he speaks he is telling the truth, and that is what perhaps at the beginning gives what shock to the group, which surprises you a little, but makes you think, because if he says so, it means that it’s all true.
IGNAZIO = For example, I’ll tell you an anecdote.
SYLVIA = Go!
IGNAZIO = I’ve never told it, it’s a scoop.
SILVIA = A scoop!
IGNAZIO = A few years ago…..(Piero touches his leg and Ignazio asks him: ) “What happened?”
PIERO = Stay….. (and imitates Ignazio with his legs spread)
IGNAZIO = I’m comfortable…..so what, excuse me (and he sits down with his legs together, and then crossed).
PIERO = Well done.
IGNAZIO = Is it okay?
PIERO = Very good.
IGNAZIO = A few years ago, it was a period in my life where I was detached from work, I have to tell the truth, I don’t know it was a moment like this, and every now and then they would throw sentences at me:
“You are never there”, “You are always away”, “You are never with us”, “You are always at home”, “You go out with others and not with us”…..and in a meeting I said: “The real reason why I’m not with you is because I don’t feel well, I can’t be with you”.
Since that day, our relationship has changed.
SILVIA= How nice, you had great courage. (applause)
IGNAZIO = (addressing Piero), Do you remember, in Bologna? (Piero nods)
SILVIA = You reacted!
IGNAZIO = They were disappointed.
PIERO = In the end you reflect on the words, you always try to understand the person, his reaction, a word spoken, but in the end he was right, because maybe he needed to be with himself for a while, he didn’t go out with us because he needed to reflect, but like everyone else, you know we go to dinner, we go out when we stay in hotels on the other side of the world we stay together, he was always in the bedroom, always in the bedroom, the first time we invite him , the second also, the third you start to leave him on his own. This thing lasted a couple of months.
IGNAZIO = Yes, yes.
PIERO = Then we tried to deal with this thing, because you know, in the end, the three of us respect our private life very much, but the truth is that we have fun when we are all three together, even off stage, and we didn’t feel like not having him anymore with us, maybe he stayed too much time alone in the bedroom, so we faced this discussion, he had the courage to tell us what was wrong, maybe certain aspects of our character that he didn’t digest…..
IGNAZIO = That is, prejudices, judgments, those things there.
PIERO = And then…..
IGNAZIO = In the end, between friends, it’s the beauty of being friends, the word friends, it’s a bit like in a relationship you say the word I LOVE YOU, you can say, but the true meaning of I love you, it has a great meaning and giving a value to the word FRIEND must be as much as I LOVE YOU. Being friends also means this, being transparent, telling each other everything, how things stand. (applause)
SILVIA = Gianluca do you remember that moment?
GIAN = Yes, but then we know each other so well that we really need not to have any kind of judgement.
SILVIA = Having the freedom to be yourself, because being together for so long, work is fine, but then one feels limited, right? I imagine!
IGNAZIO= Sure, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back, because we have to feel good together.
SILVIA = And are you all right now?
PIERO = Very well.
IGNAZIO = Unfortunately yes!! (applause)
SILVIA = Your time has come (she turns to Piero) are you ready to see you again as a little boy?
PIERO= Go, go, I’m very ready.
SILVIA= Let’s go back in time and this is our gift to you. (applause)
Piero’s voice in the video:
My grandfather Pietro discovered my voice.
“Piero’s grandfather= There was something true, I felt that slowly something had to happen.”
My father never stopped believing in me, I used to sing on the bonnet of cars in the workshop, and you would see this short child, only 1.40m tall, singing, and all the neighbors would look out to listen.
Love is a particular theme, but it is such a strong feeling that it must be protected. I see a good future with a family and children, in my opinion that is the reason for living.
I think the highlight of our career was when we sang in front of Pope Francis in Panama.
Our luck … in the midst of so many people, sometimes you feel alone …. but I think that in 10 years something like this has never happened. (applause)

IGNAZIO = (he turns to Piero) But you are the only miracle in the world without cosmetic surgery.
PIERO = Why?
IGNAZIO = Because you’ve become a handsome boy without surgery. (laughs)
SILVIA = It’s true, but he’s always been handsome.
IGNAZIO = No, it wasn’t always nice.
SYLVIA = Why?
IGNAZIO = No, come on, when we started he wasn’t handsome, now he’s a handsome boy.
PIERO = That is, do you understand who I have to stay with? (he means that Ignazio is making fun of him)
IGNAZIO = (he points to a photo of Piero) Look at that handsome boy.
SILVIA = With a beard….
PIERO = He (Ignazio) is making fun of me.
IGNAZIO = I’m not kidding you, I’m being honest.
PIERO = I still have to understand when he’s serious.
SILVIA = Yes, me too, I still have to understand.
SILVIA = Are you serious or are you joking?
IGNAZIO = I’m serious.
SILVIA = You are serious!
PIERO = Thank you, we are approaching Christmas and you have become better!
IGNAZIO = No, no, I’ve never told you, but it’s true, you’ve become a handsome boy.
PIERO = Thanks, if you tell me I believe it.
SILVIA = Well done Ignazio!!
IGNAZIO = I’m sincere!
SILVIA = Indeed! (applause)

SILVIA = (she turns to Piero) So, how much did you grow up too, together you trod the most important stages in the world, maybe you never see your videos again, but seeing you, seeing how you grew up, what effect does it have on you?
PIERO = In the video they are images from when we were 15/16 years old, you notice the difference, not only physical, but there is that maturity that only comes with time, with the experiences you live.
This is also the reason why we decided to do this concert in Jerusalem, let’s hope everything goes well, we have just returned from the inspection, an incredible place, (he then turns to the audience) I’ll see you on December 24th on Canale 5.
SILVIA = Bravo, on Christmas Eve! (applause)
PIERO = I was saying that we have decided to sing, to do an event in Jerusalem now, at the age of 28/29, because we are aware that you can only undertake such a profound and important journey if there is that extra maturity, which of course a little boy 14/15 years old cannot have, and therefore we also hope to convey these strong emotions that we experienced in this pre-trip and that we will experience on December 24th.

SILVIA = Well, we talked about you, we talked about Jerusalem, and now let’s talk about LOVE.
IGNAZIO = (ironic) I couldn’t wait.
PIERO = Excuse me, but is Silvia Bond still there? (Silvia in spy version for love topic)
SILVIA = Yes, there’s Silvia Bond, because last time  all you made some important statements to me, (she repeats a sentence in Portuguese said by Ignazio) for example, promises, question marks, look, because now it’s time for truth.
(Start a video of some pieces from the previous broadcast where Silvia had asked about their love life and I summarize their answers:
GIAN = I’m engaged and in love, I’m happy and my girlfriend has my mother’s name, Piero intervenes to say to wait for the next interview with Verissimo to confirm, because Gianluca often changes girlfriends.
Then Piero states that for now he is fine on his own .
Ignazio says that he met a girl from Brazil through the web, he went to meet her and now they are in love and he is happy and would like to be a young father.)
IGNAZIO = (he turns to Silvia) But, won’t they fire you 007?? (he is paraphrasing a James Bond film)
SILVIA = Where do I start? Voluntary question!
IGNAZIO = Go to Piero, start with him.
SILVIA = So Piero was single right?
I read stories, but I don’t know anything (because Italian newspapers write about so many absurd love stories).
PIERO = Better to change the subject. No, as you left me, you find me. (he means that nothing has changed)
SILVIA = Ok, you’re alone, always alone with them (Ignazio and Gianluca).
PIERO = I’m resigned and it will be like this for all the episodes of Verissimo….
SILVIA = But have you had acquaintances this year or just peace of sense?
PIERO = Maybe we concentrated a little too much on work.
SILVIA = Ok, just work….is that right, Ignazio?
IGNAZIO = Yes, he (Piero) will soon be giving his vows (to enter the convent, Ignazio is the usual joker)
SILVIA = It smells of sanctity.
IGNAZIO = The trip to the Holy Land has served and will also serve for this.
SILVIA = And what about you? (she turns to Ignazio but he avoids the topic)
IGNAZIO = Gianluca, so you?
GIAN = No, Ignazio is your turn.
SILVIA = Ignazio we stayed with Ana Paula, from Brazil, a beautiful, blonde girl…..
IGNAZIO = Let’s go on……yes, because it’s complicated……
SILVIA= The distance?
IGNAZIO = Eh, yes.
PIERO = But there is a positive aspect of this relationship.
IGNAZIO = I learned Portuguese.
PIERO = He learned to speak Portuguese and now we don’t do all the interviews in Brazil with the simultaneous translator, but with Ignazio.
SILVIA = Wow, see?
IGNAZIO = Yes, but it’s difficult, complicated.
SILVIA = It’s over.
IGNAZIO = Yes, yes, but for a while already, for a few months already, since June, that’s life, things have a beginning and we don’t know when the end is, when it arrives, it depends how it arrives…. …. do we go further?
SILVIA = See…..
GIAN = Curious, Silvia is curious.
SILVIA = No, I want to know, indeed the public wants to know… and you? Dear Gianluca?
GIAN = It’s a dual relationship, we are one person.
I told you I wouldn’t change.
IGNAZIO = Wait, it hasn’t been two years yet (because Il Volo was invited to Verissimo every two years, instead it’s only been a year since last time)
Usually he has a two-year contract.
SILVIA = But I understand, are you still with Eleonora?
PIERO = Yes, the surname is still the same!
GIAN = Have you seen how they do it? When I speak they jump on me.
IGNAZIO = If I jump on you, you’ll hear me more.
SILVIA = So you kept your promise, if we can say so.
GIAN = Yes, I told you!
SILVIA = Did you do it for us?
GIAN = Of course (he laughs)
PIERO = In fact in the wedding ring there will be written for Silvia (laughter)
SILVIA = Are you happy? Are you OK?
GIAN = Yes, I’m fine, because it’s not easy being around (on tour) and being in love, especially in an age where you often live in freedom, for a series of things, but I’m fine, as I said before, it’s a dual relationship, we are one person, we are similar, really, as if she were my female version and vice versa, in short.
SILVIA = Let’s go ahead and talk about music.
IGNAZIO = Please, are you coming to our concert?
SILVIA = Of course I’ll come to your concerts. So let’s remember on the 24th there’s Christmas in Jerusalem broadcast on Canale 5, then there are three other concert dates.
PIERO = Yes, the day after tomorrow we leave for Brazil, then we will return to Italy for the concerts in Turin on December 15th, Milan on the 17th and in Rome on the 23rd.
SILVIA = And since you never stop, there’s also a new single.
PIERO = Yes, Happy Christmas.
SILVIA = Happy Christmas which is a song by John Lennon which is a beautiful song, a beautiful hymn.
IGNAZIO = Many know it as War is Over.
SYLVIA = Yes
PIERO = Written in 1971 during the war in Vietnam and unfortunately still today…..
IGNAZIO = is current unfortunately.
PIERO =….. let’s keep talking about this sad topic. And with this song, with Happy Christmas and with Christmas, we try to continue giving life to this message, which is an eternal hymn to PEACE. (applause)

SILVIA = And let’s listen to it, are you ready?
Il Volo with Happy Christmas War is Over. Thank you.
(starts the song)

SILVIA = Thank you!
IGNAZIO = Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT IL VOLO!!!

In this pre-Christmas period, I want to offer you some videos that I saw at the beginning of October and which I archived waiting for the right moment to be able to offer them to you.

They are videos made by a vocal coach, who heard Il Volo songs for the first time and so we will see their reactions and comments.

The first song whose reaction I want to offer you is the beautiful SE, taken from Nuovo Cinema Paradiso.

The review is done by Raffa Barreiros, who is a Brazilian vocal coach who posts on CANTO DO ZERO, a vocal technique channel.

He says he will analyze Morricone’s song sung by Il Volo and he is very excited because it is a song he really likes.

You can activate the subtitles, but since I know that for some of you it is difficult, I will translate the most important parts.

(Ignazio begins to sing.)
“It’s really nice to hear that a tenor sings fluidly in the low-mid range. People are used to hearing tenor voices explode in the high notes, but it’s very nice when a singer can sing in that low part of the voice and with a more breath, more delicate emission. It’s beautiful and I think the timbre is very beautiful.”

(It’s Gianluca’s turn.)
“What a beautiful voice….there are many people who ask me if this is the voice of a baritone or a tenor. It can be classified as a dramatic tenor, it can be considered a baritenor, which is a singer who has great weight in the voice, but which has a tenor range and he’s a baritone who also has range in the treble.”

(Now Piero, and Raffa’s face is eloquent.
Start a multi-voiced piece right away.)

“Hear that opening of voices.
Well done, what a beautiful film, what a beautiful song, what a wonderful Italian trio, in my opinion they are very good, they sing very well. We owe a lot to Italian music, to Italian composers, to Italian singers, to Italian classical music but also to popular music, all wonderful music.

You’ve seen how they put together three different voices, one playing the main line of the melody and then two voices completing it, and they create that harmony, that set of voices that bring a beautiful sonority to the ear. You hear that sound?  Oh wonderful…and sometimes you don’t know what’s going on, they’re splitting the voices, creating different voices to add up and make a very colorful thing, very beautiful to listen to. We can think of music as a colour, as a smell, as a taste, because art touches our senses. Music is not only metrics, mathematics, tuning, it is also a matter of sensation and feeling.

Il Volo grazie mille!!”

Raffa Barreiros had already analyzed Il Volo with the song IL MONDO, of which I am attaching the video.

He says they all have very nice clean timbres and that in harmony they keep their individuality creating with their different timbres a wonderful sound.

And now the song of EL TRISTE, reviewed by JC, I will try to translate his comment.

A Mexican person asked to analyze this song performed by Il Volo. It’s a song by Josè Josè, iconic, you’re not Mexican if you don’t know this song. I was 14 when this song came out.

Il Volo, I don’t know who they are, they were recommended to me by people who just subscribed to my channel.

(Gianluca begins to sing).
But do they sing opera? Wow, nice voice.

(Ignazio begins) Wow, the clarity and the voice at the top is fantastic, this artist enchants me.

(Piero begins) Wow, but where does such a strong voice come from such a young guy!

(begins the part together) Oh, where are these three men from? Listen in the high note, that second of a minute that the guy was late in singing (Piero) …..these are supermen.

They are boys with beautiful voices, but apart from the beautiful tone they emit,  when this boy sings (Gianluca)  he conveys a very special sensation, there is a lot of feeling which is required in this song.

Wow this cover is worth hearing, feel how clean it is.
Another thing, Il Volo is an Italian group and they sing in Spanish, and very well, I repeat, I don’t know this group, but this is another point in their favor.

You can feel the feeling here (sings Gianluca), it’s really an extra. Wow (applause).

They are on another level, I don’t know them, but I can’t say anything critical, I can only say that these are super singers, the texture of their voices and the vibrato are crystal clear, it’s a privilege to have heard them. Awesome super mega talented guys, a marvel!

This time it’s LUCHO TR’s reaction to the song SI ME FALTA TU MIRADA, a song that I really like.

Lucho has heard IL Volo before, but it’s the first time he’s heard them sing in Spanish and he’s happy about it.

After the video I translated his words.

Wow what a beautiful place.
Wow, how well he sings in Spanish.
Wow, there’s a loud voice charging, I’ve already heard it in another video I think it’s his (Piero).

I really like this slow start of the song and then explode in the chorus, the lyrics of the song are beautiful, I absolutely love it and the vocals are better than each other and that means a lot of quality.

I love it, I love it, I love how their voices join, the cuts one makes to get into each other’s voices are super good and feel subtle, not like when one sings and another joins in and you feel like an abrasion, shocking , they make subtle changes, each shines , they are three but very uniform.

I’m speechless, wow (applause).

I really liked the video, nice finish, I really liked this simplicity of the video that stays in our mind and we can take it wherever we want. Enjoy the song singing with all your heart, literally with all your heart and get carried away, the moment is very beautiful and the voices of the boys are tremendously spectacular and the harmony … my goodness, terrible, fantastic, I like that in a moment they did the harmony and then they felt like a choir with their voices in harmony, wait (he plays the piece again). Did you hear, there are backing vocals and lead vocals in harmony, nice, nice, nice to me. Beautiful words and beautiful black and white video, I think it’s a perfect video.

A kiss, a hug, comment and see you next time!

And finally these three video reviews which are in English, so it will be a pleasure for you to listen to them!

Grande Amore by Gio

EL TRISTE by Master of Voice

EL TRISTE by FRANK VALCHIRIA

It’s November 22nd evening and I think I’ll close the post and send it to Pat for publication , but here’s Gianluca publish a photo of Rome, so I’m in Rome? To do what?

I prefer to wait for tomorrow to send the post, to see if any news arrives.😉

I was sure, when our boys give us little nods, it means that there is something to discover.

Il Volo was a guest at the Guardia di Finanza Concert in Rome on the occasion of the presentation of the Historical Calendar 2023.

Here’s the video!

WOMAN = They are three guys with extraordinary voices, they have been around the world thanks to their voices and also to their sympathy, their talent. They signed a contract with a US major, recorded songs in every language and climbed to the highest podium of the Sanremo Festival, that festival that launched our best-known song  all over the world ( she sings)... in the blue painted in blue……., by the great, very great Domenico Modugno.

Ladies and gentlemen, with us tonight: Il Volo.

GIANLUCA = Good evening everyone, it’s a pleasure to be here with you for this special event. Thank you (applause)

The song VOLARE begins.

At the end of the song, applause.

PIERO = (addressed to the conductor) Can I tell you what happened on the phone?

When the maestro called me and we had to talk about the arrangement, he spoke to me about this band of the Guardia di Finanza and I thought that we had never sung with a band, I imagined the town band (every town has its own band citizens playing instruments). Then I go on the internet to find out about the band of the Guardia di Finanza and I discover that it is an entire symphony orchestra, incredible, congratulations guys, congratulations” (applauses)

GIANLUCA = Besides, there is also a culture in my family, because my grandfather, who is now 89 years old, played in the town band and toured practically all of Italy, when he was young he played the alto fricorn, where is it? Here it is, (the person who plays this instrument in the band stands up, applauses), so I wanted to tell you about this little detail that also makes me proud of my grandfather Ernesto.

IGNAZIO = By the way, he looks like your grandfather when he was young.  (laughs)

PIERO = However we want to thank the Guardia di Finanza for inviting us to this extraordinary event on this magnificent occasion, we are honored to share the stage with the Guardia di Finanza band to sing all together and honor our Italian anthem.

(Everyone stand up, the moment is solemn, the Italian anthem plays. Applause).

WOMAN = Congratulations, Il Volo, hello guys, three Italian excellences, thanks, thanks to all of you, thanks to the Guardia di Finanza band, to the children’s choir of Santa Cecilia, thanks to all the authorities present in the room, and to all of you, to the next.

As usual, our boys amaze us. This event was not announced, they love to surprise us.

And what do you think of vocal coach videos? Interesting, isn’t it?
But we don’t need confirmation of their skills, we know them very well, but other people’s reactions amaze and make us proud!!

By the way: Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

IL VOLO TOUR 2022: VICENZA by Daniela

The last stage of the Italian summer tour has also arrived: Vicenza.

I must admit that, even though Vicenza is less than 80 miles from Brescia, I have never seen this city.
My friend Antonietta, went to the concert in Vicenza and sent me many beautiful photos and so let’s start by seeing how beautiful the Piazza dei Signori is.
Antonietta sent me some videos of the guy’s speeches, which I gladly translate for you.
PIERO = It rains, it does not rain, it rains, it does not rain.
Luckily, so far it has gone well (obviously because the concert is outdoors).Thank you for coming to this concert, we are delighted (applause).
Today is the last date of this summer tour, tomorrow we leave two months for the U.S. on tour….
GIANLUCA = Who wants to come with us ???
PIERO = Anyone who wants to come can go with them !!
GIANLUCA(He reads a sign)
“You are the best gift for my 90th birthday !!”
Greetings lady, best wishes, best wishes !!
PIERO(he talks to Ignazio) Since I’m a mature person and I know you well, before you chase me away, I’m leaving.
IGNAZIO = Bravo!
PIERO = Ciao, see you later.
GIAN(to Ignazio) Did you drink the coffee?
IGNAZIO = No. Coffee hurts, for heaven’s sake, because it can create gastric reflux, so the mucous membranes become inflamed (he points to a grandmother in the audience), see the lady nods. I studied!
GIAN = What happens now?
IGNAZIO = Before the tour, I called Gianluca and told him:
“What should we do in a duet Gianluca?”
And I propose a song that was already part of our wishes.
GIAN = We’ve been wanting to do it for years.
IGNAZIO = One of those songs that you think we have to do sooner or later. Let’s do it.
And so we decided to sing this song, especially this year, because we have come from two very difficult years, where there have been people less fortunate than us, who have suffered and continue to suffer. We want to dedicate it to those who are suffering, to those who listen to all the music to feel a little better, and especially to those who are watching us from up there. (applause)
Ignazio’s thought certainly went to Vito , and now, how touching is this speech by Piero, dedicated to the memory of his grandfather Pietro !!
PIERO = You know the love I have towards opera.
I study every day to improve, and to learn more and more.
It is a magnificent journey.
I owe everything to a person, who unfortunately has not been with us for a few days, and it is the person who made me discover, (applause) who transmitted this vocation to me. My grandfather.

A few songs:

“SE” Thanks to Laura Peyretti
“ALL BY MYSELF” Thanks to Francesca Brazzale

“LA DONNA E’ MOBILE” Thanks to Francesca Brazzale

The final notes of GRANDE AMORE!!
There were a lot of people and big screens were put up to allow everyone to see the guys.
The audience enjoyed the concert very much and responded with a lot of applause !!

And look at the beautiful photos published by the Municipality of Vicenza.

And look at what beautiful photos Antonietta managed to take during the Vicenza soundcheck.

And so we came to the last summer concert, a little sad, because for two months we will not see Il Volo here with us, but …………. we celebrate because they are already in your continent, they have rested very little and are ready to start your adventure !!
Enjoy every moment of their company !!!
