Personally Speaking ~ Jane & Mary

“YOU REMEMBER WHERE I’VE BEEN, RESPECT WHO I’VE BECOME AND ENCOURAGE ME WHERE I’M GOING…”

Brothers and sisters…best friends…a confidant…someone always there for you…someone you look up to…trust…respect…devoted to…supports you, and loves you like no one else can.  Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca, you are blessed in so many ways.  The love you have for your siblings and they in return, is a gift beyond compare.

PRINCE GIANLUCA!
Does he not look like the Prince of Abruzzo?
As the word prince is defined in the dictionary:
A person of high standing.
YES, he fits the bill here.
The love, respect, admiration and highest regard he is held in…

Gianluca – in our eyes you are one mighty fine Prince!

THEIR HAIR

Did you see the picture of Piero in the barbers’ chair with Ignazio holding a pair of scissors next to his forehead?  I’m still chuckling over that one.  Piero is holding his hands in a praying position, and probably saying something like, “Please God, don’t let Ignazio cut my hair.”
hair soonie
It got me to thinking about Il Volo hair.  Let me say right at the start that whatever I say about the boys’ hair is said in love, not criticism.  We’ve all had our “bad hair” days and come out  of the salon thinking, “what has he/she done to me?”  So we know how it goes.  And their hair is not what we love—doesn’t really matter what it looks like.  It’s the guy underneath that we care about.  Now, having said that, let’s take a look at some of the hair-dos of the past.

Remember Piero in the pre-ear tuck stage?
hair piero 3
He was so adorable with his crazy hair sticking out all over his head like a bramble bush.  I fell in love with him when I first saw that hair and the cute guy underneath it .  When the ears were unveiled, Soonie got a little wild with the clippers and the sides were waaay short with a thatch on top.  Then there was the “leaning tower of Pisa look with the pointy top leaning over to the right like it was saying, “go this way.”

hair piero 4

That soon gave way to what I call the “Arizona Mesa” look—straight up and high with lots of gel.

hair piero 5It seems that lately it has been tamed to a shorter style, thank goodness.  Actually, my favorite look is when he has been swimming, and the sun has dried his hair into a soft natural frame for his beautiful face

hair piero 6
….and that’s what I love, regardless of  the hair style.

Now for Gianluca….oooh, his gorgeous curls.
hair gian 2

Too bad they only get let out  occasionally.

hair gian

Remember when he won the contest how sweet he looked with the curly tendrils caressing his neck?  Of course he has always had an angelic face and the curls just accentuate that look.  I know they make him look younger, and he is trying to have a more mature look, but please, Gianluca, give us the curls.  His more recent styles have been more conventional than the other guys, and let’s face it….those “bedroom eyes” and the million dollar smile are enough to set anyone swooning over him like the women did over his idol, Frank Sinatra.
gotta love those eyes
Remember how the term”swooning” got started with him?  Anyway, Gianluca, we love you and your hair, whatever.

Now Ignazio probably has the most challenging hair.  I really think it has a mind of its own.  Like it’s saying, “I’m crazy, and I’ll do whatever I want, so just stand back and let it happen.”

hair Ignazio8 Sometimes Ignazio tries to tame it with a ponytail (not my favorite look) but usually it is leaping down with a swirl around his cheek or standing up in a cloud of swirling busyness.  This guy has a lot of hair, and we never know what it  is going to do next.  That makes it interesting, and we always know that his sweet face will be there underneath it.

Catherine Grove
Thinking about the guys and their hair styles makes me think of the Joe Cocker/Ray Charles song….It says it all:

“You are so beautiful to me,
Can’t you see?
You’re everything I hoped for,
You’re everything I need.
You are so beautiful to me.”

Minnesota Loves Il Volo…Again

One of my favorite things to do is feature your wonderful stories and pictures! Here’s the latest from our Minnesota Ladies. A more fun and dedicated group you will never find. Go Jane (MaryJane)!

The whole gang
L to R: Bonnie, Jane, Allene, Mary, Suzy, Laura and Joyce

Hi Crew,
Well, the Minnesota delegation from the Flight Crew just HAD to get together one more time before the snow starts piling up around here making it difficult to maneuver around the state. All but Dorothy, whose family plans changed at the last minute, were able to make it. We missed Dorothy and look forward to seeing her next time around.
Suzy was our gracious hostess once again. We spent Friday evening catching up on each other’s life events since we last met.

It seems every time we get together our bond of friendship grows deeper and deeper. On Saturday, we all met up and had lunch at Buca di Beppo’s, a wonderful Italian restaurant.

Being this was the day after Halloween, Joyce and Bonnie still had their costume masks on and made a grand entrance!

They looked stunning! Had great food and kept the place lively with lots of laughter to go around. Spent the rest of the day back at Suzy’s watching a few DVD’s (I am guessing you know who was starring in them), playing once again IL VOLO PICTIONARY and an IL VOLO version of POP THE QUESTION.

Bonnie brought along a delicious bottle of Prosecco Frizzante for us to try which went very well with the Tiramisu Mary had brought back from the restaurant. And of course, Nutella made it’s appearance paired with a slightly spicy/salty cracker from Joyce. Was a real tasty combination. Parted our ways Sunday afternoon with a warm glow in our hearts and an ever lasting love for three young men who changed our lives and brought us together in love and friendship.

Looking forward to the day other members of our wonderful site can join us!!

A note from Mary (Mary Bohling) on the subject:

Hi,
Just a note about our fun Il Volo weekend. I know that Jane wrote about it, so I won’t need to go into detail. But it was just so great to spend the time talking about our guys with others who feel the same way we do…something we can’t do with other friends who just don’t understand. We can be as outrageous as we want, and everyone loves it. It was so much fun watching the first DVD and then the latest one back to back and noting the changes.  Having a non-stop Il Volo conversation for the weekend made them seem so close—“so near, and yet so far”  ha ha.   We just want you all to share our fun as much as possible.

Anne (my daughter) is saying that we are going to Italy next summer. Never too late to dream, right?

Lots of IV ♥ Mary

2014 IL VOLO CONVENTION MEMORIES ~By Jane and Mary

Gang, Remember, you can click on the pictures to see greater detail – Marie

WELCOME
WELCOME

It was all we had hoped for, and more! We are so fortunate to have 4 Flight Crew members who live relatively close (in the same state) and had the joy of meeting one another throughout the last year and a half. As we came off our “summer high” of attending the Milwaukee concert together, it was not long before we knew we needed to do something else IL VOLO related. Just didn’t want to let go of the great times we were having seeing Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio sing…..as well as being together as friends! The whole idea of a “convention” came about quickly and all plans fell into place…as if it was MEANT TO BE.

Set Up Crew

We were lovingly hosted by Suzy. She had for us a perfect hospitality room for our events. Jane, Allene, and Mary arrived on Friday afternoon, and the four of us got busy setting up pictures, posters, and memorabilia, including scrapbooks of concerts in Detroit, Milwaukee, and the MOA.

Joyce brought a video presentation of her photos from the Elgin concert. There were Beanie Babies with tags saying Minnesota IL VOLO Convention 2014 and framed 4×6 photos of the boys at various times of their careers for everyone to take home.

We immersed ourselves in IL VOLO music and got things ready for the next day. That job being done we then sat down with a glass of wine and had a great visit.

These are extraordinary women! We didn’t know each other before meeting on the FLIGHT CREW SITE and have become best of friends. We met Suzy at the MOA and later again at the concert in Milwaukee. Our bond of passion for IL VOLO has bound us all together like old (I mean that in the best sense) friends.

Joyce and Bonnie

Saturday morning we were joined by Bonnie and Joyce who we hadn’t met before, but being true IL VOLO fanatics, they blended right in and we immediately felt like old friends.

Then came Dorothy, who we had met at the Milwaukee concert. She came ALL THE WAY FROM FLORIDA, and we were so happy to see her again. We thought some fun games would be a great way to celebrate the joy of these three young men in our lives. We played, Pin the mustache on Ignazio.

We also made words from “IL VOLO CONVENTION”, …Scrambled Song Titles, …and we had a hoot of a time writing captions for a group of pictures of the guys in various settings: everything from Gian sunbathing in his speedos to Ignazio grabbing Piero around the neck in Surrender! Lots of fodder for funny comments. Wish we could share them all with you.

We were going to order in lunch, but had set out an amazing array of snacks, furnished by the attendees…

Why on earth would we order out with a feast like that right before us?? We also canceled our dinner reservations at a lovely Italian restaurant as we were too busy still feasting on our own goodies and playing IL VOLO PICTIONARY!!

Dear Laura joined us in the afternoon as we were oohing and aahing over the Buon Natale and Mas Que Amor Special Edition DVD’s (The one with the Mexican girls with the blinking bows in their hair).

Lots of sharing of experiences and thoughts about our guys. Jane wowed us all with her game prizes that included (the now famous) samples of that heavenly cologne Iganzio was wearing at the Milwaukee Meet and Greet…the one that permeated her shirt until it wafted away overnight. Leave it to Jane to find those cute little sample sizes on Ebay!

We looked at pictures and enjoyed a trifold of photos called, “Do you remember when—?” The board of photos were depicting way back to when Gianluca won THE contest when they were young, all the way up to when they were showing off their manly chests at the gym. We agreed that while they all looked pretty manly, Ignazio won hands down for the MANLIEST. Jane had prepared signs for us to offer a very special TOAST wishing our lovely Board ladies a Happy First Anniversary of the site!

We had a ball playing IL VOLO PICTIONARY. Jane had prepared topics that were hilarious, and we cracked up trying to figure out the drawings. The hit was Laura’s depiction of NUTELLA, which showed a stick figure Gian stuffing his mouth with black scribbles and a drawing of Mr. Peanut. Hard to believe that it took us so long to figure that out, but Suzy finally got it. We laughed until our faces ached over that game.

Finally it was time to call it a night (or so we thought). While Jane and Allene drove Laura home, Mary thought it was bed time…but no, the party wasn’t over yet! After Allene and I returned, here came Suzy in her PJ’s with a bottle of “Chocolate wine”. So, of course, we had to toast the Flight Crew Board once again! Then it really was time for lights out and good night to the convention. It was such a great success, and we are already looking forward to our next get together—not as fancy as this convention, but we will definitely be spending more time together soon—all agreed to that. Bonnie and Joyce said they will come from Shoreview and Dorothy will come all the way from Florida when we just say the word.

It was with heavy hearts and tears and hugs that Suzy, Jane, Allene and Mary said good-by (I mean Caio) today. But thanks to email and the FLIGHT CREW SITE we will be communicating regularly and planning our next get together, which will be not too far away.

I don’t think Piero, Gianluca or Ignazio will ever be able to fully comprehend the incredible impact their lives have had on so many others. They are truly shining lights in this troubled world. We are all better people, friends, for having known them in our lives. Their song “WE ARE LOVE” sums it up so beautifully for them. Thank you dear guys for being you!

IL VOLO LOVE,
Mary and Jane

A Letter From Jane

From time to time I get lovely personal emails from some of you. They play to my heart. I am honored and grateful to receive them. This one is so poignant that I needed to share it with all of you. With Jane’s (maryjane) permission, of course.

Jane and Mary B.
Jane and Mary B.

Dear Marie,
In between reading all of the wonderful posts on the Flight Crew site I have found myself returning repeatedly to a certain youtube video, Assisi Natale 2013 (Adolphe Adam).
There is a moment during O HOLY NIGHT that simply took my breath away.

To see them perform in such a gorgeous church setting was something I had always dreamed of seeing. The part of the video that captured me was when Piero sang his solo, “Noel” during O HOLY NIGHT. You will see Gianluca and Ignazio on either side of him simultaneously close their eyes as he hits his high note. They appear to be momentarily in a spiritual space. The reverence and holiness of this reflected on each face. We know they convey their emotions superbly in all of their music. We have put them on the highest pedestal as they certainly deserve to be. I truly think we are watching special grace being sent to us through them as they sing as is reflected during this brief moment. They have filled us with their love and brought us together as a group for the sake of loving their music. When you meet them you see they are not your typical teenagers. They are young men filled with a desire to bring their music to the world. They work hard and are totally devoted to their passion. They have a message to deliver and they convey this message of love through music. Many of us have felt drawn to them from the very beginning. Several people in this site have said how their music has helped them heal through different challenges in life. I feel blessed to have them in our world. They have made the world a better place for many.

This moment Jane?
This moment Jane?

Have you seen this video and did you notice this moment? There is just something about it that keeps me going back and watching it over and over. I sat down tonight and wrote out my feelings as to what this meant to me. I don’t want to sound over board here. Just my thoughts I thought I’d share with you.

Il VOLO friend,
Jane

Dear Jane,

Thank you for allowing me to share this letter. Most of all, thank you for thinking of sending it to me when you wrote it. This letter is special and so are you.

But what are you thinking? Of course I’ve seen that moment! It’s me, Jane! I see all their moments and that one is a killer! Now, thanks to you, others will see it too.

With Il Volo Love,
Marie
