GLEANINGS by Daniela

We titled this post “Gleanings” because it covers various news and videos that have occurred since mid-July and that I haven’t reported.
On July 16th, Il Volo was invited to cover an event organized by the San Donato Group (the group operates in the healthcare sector and is the largest private hospital group in Italy), titled SUMMER NIGHT 2025.
Here is an excerpt from the article published in “Fortune Health Italia,” a healthcare publication.
“A special evening to recognize ‘bridge builders’ working across the Mediterranean. Last night, at Villa Miani in Rome, the 2025 Summer Dinner, promoted annually by Gruppo San Donato, GKSD, and Ecam Council, returned. This event highlighted the international commitment of one of the historic ‘seven sisters’ of healthcare, but also presented a series of awards to individuals committed to fostering growth and spreading health and well-being across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The musical group ‘Il Volo’ was greeted with great enthusiasm, donating their entire fee to the non-profit foundation of the San Donato Group, GSD Foundation ETS, and to the Ale & Franz and Friends Onlus Association.”
Guys, we never had any doubts about your generosity, but once again our hearts are filled with pride.
After this event, our guys returned to their families for a short vacation and delighted us with some of their photos:

PIERO:

GIANLUCA:

IGNAZIO:

And then August arrived, bringing us the beautiful Evento of the Youth Jubilee, of which I attach just a few photos.
I’d like to introduce you to the Popes Il Volo knew:

Pope Francis

Pope Leone XIV

With the Youth Jubilee now over, we all thought Ignazio Piero and Gianluca were enjoying a well-deserved break.
It’s August, the height of the holiday season in Italy, but Il Volo still has time to attend one more event.
Issa Resort inauguration on August 6th in Romania. Here are some short videos and photos from the evening.

And then there’s two pieces of news: the first is that the video of the concert at the Valley of the Temples will be released on August 29st, so it’s already available to order.

On September 30th, the Verona Arena will host a commemoration of Luciano Pavarotti, who would have turned 90.
Il Volo will also be participating in the event!!
And finally, a well-deserved August break. It’s been a very hot August here, and I hope Piero, Gianluca, and Ignazio also enjoy a wonderful holiday, even though for Ignazio and Michelle it will all be preparations for Gabriele’s imminent arrival.
Have a great summer everyone!!!

Encuentro En Aguas published these words that I translate for you:
🎼✨ Il Volo dazzled for the first time in Aguascalientes in an unforgettable night at the Forum de las Stars 🇮🇹🎶
Aguascalientes, May 3, 2025. — A truly magical night was experienced this Saturday at the Mazda Stars Forum, with the eagerly awaited and exciting presentation of the Italian trio Il Volo, who for the first time have set foot on hydrocalic lands as part of their international tour. The concert was part of the San Marco National Fair 2025 and managed to bring together thousands of local, national and international fans who cheered each performance with deep emotion 👏🌍❤️.
🎻 A musical tribute to life, culture and hope accompanied by the extraordinary Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Ildefonso Cedillo Blanco, Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio offered a symphonic concert that spanned classical opera, Latin boleros and Italian and Mexican folk music. Their vocal virtuosity and charisma captivated the audience from the first moment 🎤 🎻🇲🇽.
One of the most touching moments was when, in a gesture of global sensitivity, they asked for a prayer for the recently deceased Pope Francis, inviting the audience to turn on their cell phone lights and sing together “Hallelujah”, also dedicated to those facing illness or loss. The entire forum lit up in a profound and respectful tribute 🕯️📱💫.
🎙️ Between Mexico and Italy, a bridge of love
During their performance, Il Volo expressed their love for Mexico:
“This country was one of the first to open its doors to us… We are united by the colors of the flag, the hearts of the people, and of course the food! Italians love tacos and Mexicans love pasta. “
🇲🇽🇮🇹 🍝🌮
As a sign of affection, they offered a medley of Mexican music that included jewels of the traditional repertoire, once again earning a standing ovation from the audience.
🌍 The world awaits their tour!
Although no dates have been revealed yet, the trio anticipated that they will officially announce their world tour very soon, news that was celebrated with enthusiasm by their followers, who did not hide their excitement to return to experience magical nights like this Saturday ✨🗓️ 🛫.
🙏 Special thanks
From #EEANews, we appreciate the Government of the State of Aguascalientes, the Patronato de la Feria Nacional de San Marcos and RP Espectáculos for continuing to promote such international shows, keeping alive the essence of the “Feria de Ferias”, the incomparable Feria Nacional de San Marcos 🎡🌟🇲🇽.
This article published by EL SOL DEL CENTRO is also nice.
An unforgettable concert at the Fair! Il Volo filled the Forum delle Stelle with emotion, talent and symphonic music.
One of the most special moments of the evening was when they sang “Hallelujah” for the death of Pope Francis and for all those who suffer from any disease.
Il Volo lit up the night of Aguascalientes with the voice, soul and symphonic elegance of Karla Barba / El Sol del Centro/
The spectators at the Foro de las Estrellas of the Feria Nacional de San Marcos lived a truly special symphonic musical experience, led by the Italian trio Il Volo, which unleashed the emotions of local and foreign fans who attended this majestic concert.
After performing classic opera lyrics and boleros sung by fans, and after almost an hour of performance, they asked for a prayer for the recent death of Pope Francis, a pain deeply felt in Italy and around the world; They invited those present to turn on their cell phone lights and sing “Hallelujah”, dedicating the song also to those who are facing an illness, something that was understood by the audience who gave them a standing ovation.
Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio thanked and thanked the members of the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, which had Ildefonso Cedillo Blanco as guest conductor, and were also applauded by the audience.
Without a doubt, the encounter that Il Volo gave to its audience from Aguascalientes and different parts of the country and even the world was an unprecedented experience at the San Marcos National Fair, especially for lovers of classical and popular music, since they were able to enjoy the talent of this group that once again proved how to interpret different musical genres, but this time with a magnificent Orchestra like the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra.
“Mexico is one of the first countries to support us… we are united by the colors of the flag, and we Italians also love Mexican food and Mexicans love Italian food,” they said, before immediately performing a medley of Mexican music as a tribute.
This evening will be unforgettable for all those who attended the magnificent show that Il Volo staged in collaboration with the OSA.
Really so much enthusiasm, so much joy, so much affection!! 🥰
It was the first time for Il Volo in this part of Mexico and I must say that from the enthusiasm of the people it is clear that the beautiful music, the beautiful voices, the bel canto are appreciated everywhere.
Truly a “hard work” for Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca who will be the day after the concert will already be on their way back to Italy, but certainly for them it was a great satisfaction, perhaps a great recharge of the batteries in anticipation of Mantua!!!
See you soon: Daniela 🤗

APRIL 2025 IN ITALY by Daniela

What happened during the Easter holidays?
A lot happened, but as usual, let’s summarize on the timeline.
On April 15 Il Volo, or rather Piero and Ignazio, were interviewed by Radio Bruno.
Here is their arrival at Radio Bruno.
It’s a nice interview to promote the concerts in Mantua.
There is the possibility of activating subtitles so I won’t do translation..

I wrote that I didn’t translate, since it was an interview very similar to the one already done for Radio 102.5, but towards the end Ignazio spoke about the wait for little Bianca and I want to translate this moment because it is absolutely sweet!
IGNAZIO= I’m pregnant too, because everyone says that when your wife is expecting a baby, the father also gets fat.
DONNA= Do you sing her some songs about her belly?
IGNAZIO= I’ll tell you something I haven’t said yet.
Last night, we were in bed and in the evening I always kiss her goodnight and so I started singing to her (and he starts a sweet song). I finish singing and I put my ear on her belly and “pum” a kick, I was so emotional, it was crazy, I still get emotional now!! ❤️
We also received a nice photo of Il Volo at the Donatello Restaurant in Bologna.
Easter time is coming and Gianluca sends us photos with his friends and Ignazio with Michelle, but Piero…..not received!!
Despite there being several rainy days, the spring weather is making itself felt, everything is in bloom.
The commercials for the Mantua concerts are starting to run on television.
Unfortunately, the day after Easter, here on “Lunedì di Pasquetta”  (Easter Monday), was overshadowed by the terrible news of the death of our beloved Pope Francis.
Just the day before, he had given the Urbi et Orbi blessing from the central balcony of St. Peter’s and had taken a ride in the papal car in the square to greet the faithful.
Although  had been hospitalized for a long time, he seemed to be recovering well and no one expected such bad news. We were all shocked. 😭🙏
We remember the beautiful moments spent by Il Volo with Pope Francis, in the Vatican and in Panama at the Youth Day.

Rest in peace Pope Francis, you were a great Pope. 🙏🙏

April 25th marks 16 years since Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca were first brought together to sing, that’s right, it’s already been 16 years of Il Volo!!
Mamma mia, how small our boys were, but their voices…..ah what voices!!

“Ours is an arranged marriage, only later did we fall in love. Some days we can’t stand each other. The turning point? Telling each other everything to our faces”: Il Volo reveals

After the tour in America, the trio returns to Italy for the third edition of “Tutti per Uno – Viaggio nel Tempo”, the only Italian dates set for May 8, 10 and 11.
After the American tour, Il Volo returns to Italy for the third edition of “Tutti per Uno – Viaggio nel Tempo”, the only Italian dates set for May 8, 10 and 11. After the success of the first two editions, broadcast on Canale 5 and which achieved significant ratings, the show moves for the first time to Palazzo Te in Mantua. Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble will be accompanied by numerous guests. After “Tutti Per Uno – Viaggio Nel Tempo”, Il Volo will continue with a new tour that will touch the main European capitals and Latin America, starting in June and throughout 2025.
Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble spoke about themselves on Malcom Pagani’s podcast “Dicono di te”, not sparing any sincerity. “Do we want to distance ourselves from each other? – says Piero – The truth? Very often. There are mornings when after a performance, when I wake up, I furtively approach the breakfast counter, savoring the solitude to read the newspapers in peace and I see Ignazio and Gianluca arrive to keep me company. Am I happy? No, I’m not. I’ve never told them: I do it now. There are times when I can’t stand them (laughs, ed.)”.
And Ignazio adds: “There was a time when I was often alone on tour. Piero and Gianluca would go to dinner together and I would stay on my own. It was a sign of discomfort and at the umpteenth joke, at the umpteenth ‘you’re never with us’ I said what I was thinking: ‘I’m never there because I’m not well. I’m never there because in the end let’s say we know each other, but maybe we don’t know each other enough and I can’t pretend nothing is happening and act as if nothing is happening in a place where I feel judged and not understood’. From that day on, our relationship changed and we started to say things to each other’s faces. It was an important moment: today we tell each other everything we think and our relationship has made great progress.
“Ours is an arranged marriage – concludes Gianluca – and only afterwards did we truly fall in love. Being together for so long has shaped us character-wise and emotionally: we have lived the same experiences on stage (…) The experiences have bound us together”.
Is disagreeing a form of wealth? Ignazio says: “It is our strength. We are not a group but three people with their individuality, we find ourselves working together. If we do not always agree with each other it is fine also because doubt makes me feel alive. Life is not black or white it is made of nuances, colors, diversity”.
Piero adds: “You could have said it with fewer words: It would have been more honest if you had simply said: ‘I never agree with you’ (smiles, ed.)
And finally Gianluca: “It certainly is, we really discuss everything but they are constructive discussions that never give up self-criticism. We are the most severe judges of ourselves”.
But today, April 29th, there is one last wonderful piece of news and it is Ignazio himself who gives it to us, while walking hand in hand with Michelle!! 🥰❤️❤️
IGNAZIO = So, the other day we made a post saying that we are “expecting”, and that it was a girl, but then, we had the morphology scan, and in the morphology scan it came out that it is a boy!
MICHELLE = It’s a boy!
IGNAZIO = He has a little willy! And his name will be….
MICHELLE = Gabriele! ❤️
IGNAZIO = Gabriele! ❤️ We wanted to tell you!! Ciao.
MICHELLE = Ciao!
And so, it will be a boy: Gabriele, how exciting!! 💙
The beautiful Michelle is radiant in her pregnancy.
Still nothing reveals her expectation, but we all know that the morphological scan is done between the fourth and fifth month of pregnancy.
Michelle wears the “angel caller” pendant which, it is said, emanates a delicate sound that, according to belief, can calm the baby in the womb and ensure serenity to the future mother. 😍
And so, we have also reached the end of April.
Il Volo is preparing for the concerts in Mantua, but first, on May 3rd there will be an engagement in Mexico.
The rest is over, soon we start again.
See you soon: Daniela 🤗

IL VOLO ON THE ROAD by Daniela

Among the many interviews they gave themselves to, Il Volo was also interviewed by Don Walter Insero, a wonderful interview for the program “ON THE ROAD awaiting the 2025 Jubilee”.
Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca are expected by Don Water in front of the basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere. A very informal meeting where Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero opened their hearts without any problem, talking about life, faith, and religion.
I translate for you..
DWI= Welcome back to ON THE ROAD. We are in Trastevere (Rome area) in front of the basilica of S. Cecilia, patron saint of music and musicians.
This young Roman woman, from a noble family, learned the message of Jesus, became a Christian and, in order not to betray her faith in Jesus Christ, she was martyred in the third century.
Since then this has become a place of silence, prayer, which has welcomed millions of pilgrims who have come to pray at the tomb of St. Cecilia, and this place will welcome the pilgrims of the next jubilee, who will find here an oasis of contemplation and peace.
PIERO= Don Walter good morning.
DWI= Hey hello!
Hi Piero, hello Ignazio, hello Gianluca.
IGNAZIO= A magnificent place.
DWI= How nice to meet you here..
GIANLUCA= It’s a great pleasure!
DWI= …in front of the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, we are on our way ON THE ROAD towards the 2025 jubilee.
I welcome you to this which is your home, because it is the home of Cecilia, who is the patroness of music, of musicians, of singers, of singers, (at this moment Barbara and Torpedine can be seen behind them) so I have the pleasure to accompany you on this journey.
GIANLUCA= It’s an honor!
IGNAZIO= Thank you, thank you very much.
DWI= It’s music that brought you together, right?
GIANLUCA= Yes, let’s say that music is what gives meaning to our lives, let’s say that everyone uses different tools to discover their own mystery, so we used this great tool that allowed us to dig inside ourselves and make sense to life. We are what we are through the voice and certainly together the strength is greater to convey emotions to the public and excite everyone here.
DWI= When you were very young, true, you discovered this artistic vocation.
PIERO= I believe that recognizing one’s vocation when young is a great privilege. We immediately recognized it thanks also to the support and support of our families, it was they who introduced this musical genre, which is Bel Canto, the genre that we sing, and therefore we owe everything to music.
DWI= And did the families support you in this?
IGNAZIO= Absolutely, I think that especially at the beginning, they were a fundamental part of our growth and, to put it simply (he means simply), I like to say “to keep our feet on the ground”, and they continue to do so today , so we really have to say thank you to our families because they taught us the true value of being a family, what it means to be a family.
DWI= Well, let’s go in then.
Look how wonderful. (he points to the painting of the vault)
They prayed and asked Cecilia to pray for us.
GIANLUCA= With singing, which is the best prayer.
DWI= Yes, Bach says that music is a privileged path because it brings the soul closer to God. Is this true for you too?
GIANLUCA= It is the soundtrack of one’s emotions, like the poets who in their madness, like Leopardi (Italian poet) spoke to the moon waiting for him to respond. And it’s a bit like touching the sky with your emotions I think.
PIERO= Whoever sings prays twice, right?
DWI= Saint Augustine says so.
PIERO= And we do it often, singing on stage, almost every day and I think I recognize that we are three hyper-privileged people because what we feel on stage I think is an emotion that cannot be described. It’s not really easy to describe and make concrete, so I think three of us share the same sensations, an advantage for the three of us.
DWI= But can we say that music has brought you closer to God in your journey?
IGNAZIO= In a certain sense yes, also because we started from three small towns, where perhaps we know in small towns there are many more people inclined to believe, to find a foothold in what could be help from a saint, especially in music, like Saint Cecilia, so for us, our parents always prayed to God that their children could one day find their own path with their own talent, so absolutely yes.
PIERO= Personally my first approach to music was thanks to the church.
DWI= Oh yes?
PIERO= Because as a child I always went to church, so I sang in the choir, without inhibitions…
IGNAZIO= I was also part of the choir.
PIERO= I was an altar boy, I sang, so I know all the sacred songs. For us it would also be a great desire to be able to contribute during the jubilee with this magnificent art: music.
WOMAN’S VOICE = Rome, Trastevere district, it is in its beating heart, among its narrow streets, that a jewel full of charm and mystery stands: the basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere. It is here that almost 1800 years ago the young Cecilia, considered the patron saint of musicians, was martyred.
DWI= You sang in the presence of the Holy Father, of Pope Francis, in a meeting with young people and a global family meeting, with your families. What did it represent for you?
IGNAZIO= Look, the first time was in Panama.
DWI= Yes!
PIERO= World Day..
IGNAZIO= World Youth Day and having a million young people in front of us……I remember that after singing we commented on this, that there was an energy, that it was an altar, it wasn’t a stage….
DWI= Sure, sure.
IGNAZIO= A gigantic altar and you could feel this energy, I don’t know, it seemed magnetic…
PIERO= A deafening silence…
IGNAZIO= It was a deafening silence, it’s one of those experiences that really happen a few times in your life and that is given by energy, because in the end I think that people are energy, life is energy, and seeing a million people , in the same place, for the same reason, an energy was created that is truly unforgettable for us.
PIERO= And then, on 22 June (2022), being witnesses during the World Family Day, I think it was one of the great objectives of these 15 years together, because from the first day we have always tried to reach those who listen to us and also to those who don’t listen to us, this message of unity but above all this strength that are values, families, because sometimes, perhaps due to the frenzy that we experience during daily life, we forget about certain values, that is, a call with mother, maybe hear the grandparents….
DWI= Sure, sure.
PIERO= And in the end you realize that this important value that is family has arrived.
DWI= What do you remember about the meeting with Pope Francis, Gianluca?
GIANLUCA= Obviously the greatness of a person is demonstrated by his humility, I think, right? And therefore his humility is an example for all of us, many young people who are still experiencing a difficult moment in our era, seeing themselves in a person who can truly be like a family member, asking for advice, admiring him from afar in all parts of the world , I believe that this, however, is the main thing for us artists too, because then music is like a eulogy to madness, if you think about it, because there is no rationality, nothing is created from rationality. All this (looks at the basilica), artists who have been inspired by a spiritual journey, because only through spirituality can something wonderful be created and that’s a bit what we are doing with our music, our creativity takes hold from our madness, from our almost childish madness, if you think about it.
DWI= This masterpiece by Stefano Maderno (Italian sculptor) which describes what he saw when the body was observed and surprisingly, when they opened Cecilia’s tomb, they found her body in exactly that shape you see.
PIERO= Which year are you talking about?
DWI= So, the survey was done in 1599 and Stefano Maderno sculpted the marble in 1600.
PIERO= And she was found like this, in this position.
DWI= Yes, in this position, because a first attempt was made to suffocate her, in what was the “calidarium” (spa), it was a noble house because they had heating and they had the spa in the house and they tried to suffocate her there and instead she was beheaded, three shots were planned, can you see? It excites me, because look at his delicate neck, it has the signs of this cut that his body has maintained, so when Maderno commissioned this work, he knew that the intact body had this sign. Then she bled to death, a terrible death, but tradition says that while she was in agony, she had expressed the desire that this, which was her home, become a place of prayer and the Christians came to pray, the faithful then came and there are also Benedictine nuns who pray night and day, so the prayer is constant.
What does this work inspire in you?
GIANLUCA= It’s a manifestation of pain if we think about it, which is the basis of everything, only through pain does a certain growth in life certainly occur. She is a woman who then based her life on art, certainly, such a young woman and therefore an example for all of us, because even from suffering, as I was saying, important growth can be drawn.
PIERO= I really believe in coincidences. During the Sanremo Festival, the last one we did, we were given a holy picture of Santa Cecilia…
DWI= Oh…
PIERO= ….and we put it behind the cover of our cell phone and during that day we talked a lot about Santa Cecilia and today we find ourselves here in the basilica of Santa Cecilia…
DWI= Who guards her body, so it’s there, she’s buried here…
PIERO= What coincidences…
DWI= Yes, they are those gifts of providence.
And for you Ignazio?
IGNAZIO= I think that there are many miracles in life, for example I live in Bologna and there is a church where Saint Catherine is and even there the body remained intact. These are things that I don’t know… returning to the topic of energy, I am always amazed by these things, maybe there are those who believe more, those who believe less, but one cannot help but believe what life tells us. offers: miracles, energies….
GIANLUCA= That the most religious attitude is to cultivate doubt and dig deeper and deeper into oneself.
DWI= Sure.
GIANLUCA= Not just outside, a constant, spiritual search that leads you, at a certain point in life, to have enlightenment from different points of view, which can be a life dedicated to God, why not!
DWI= It’s true, doubts, questions, are part of the journey of life. The Pope wanted this motto for this upcoming jubilee: “Pilgrims of hope”.
Do you feel like pilgrims? Do you feel like you are searching, on your way or have you already arrived? You are very successful, do you feel like you have arrived?
IGNAZIO= We are constantly on the move.
PIERO= It’s a continuous journey with ourselves, in search of ourselves, always trying to show the best side of ourselves and I believe that faith, like great things, is a commitment, a constant, daily commitment. For our part, this commitment has always been there and perhaps in some difficult moments, because perhaps faith is only remembered in difficult moments, whereas we should also remember it in good moments. We try to do it every day, so yes, we consider ourselves pilgrims.
DWI= Sure. Ignazio, you?
IGNAZIO= I agree, perhaps as I said before, there are those who are more attached, he (Piero) is very attached to the church, to religion, I am a little less…
GIANLUCA= You are still looking for the point of this journey…that’s right, we are still young…
IGNAZIO=…..precisely I define it as my path, because I am a person who always tries to be amazed by things, so for me the path is to always remain amazed and hope to find answers in what I experience.
PIERO= Also because each of us has a different experience, a different past, we are three strangers who met 15 years ago, but each of us has experienced moments in our lives that have also marked us.
DWI= Sure and that you agree.
GIANLUCA= In life we have always been empty containers, because we almost had no home, always maintaining our roots and values, but from the age of 14, travelling, learning about different cultures, made us feel, as I was saying, empty containers. Having a personal spiritual journey, not children of our culture, of our society, therefore reading, really reading what is written in the Bible, not believing in a belief, what is there, why do I have to believe, I have to inform myself, I have to understand what really happened and what are the ideals of this great religion that for millennia has guided millions of people of all generations of antiquity. So get informed, read, understand well what the great content of this great story is.
DWI= (they meet the Benedictine mother) How is mother? Nice to meet you, you are the mother Abbess MariaGiovanna: Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio. This year they were in Sanremo and they gave him an image of Saint Cecilia which they kept on their cell phone and so today they were happy to be here praying to their patron saint.
MOTHER= Best wishes, best wishes, may God bless you and guide your path.
I+P+G= Thank you, thank you very much, goodbye.
DWI= How beautiful your cloister is.
MOTHER= Yes.
DWI= The jubilee is in a few months, how are you preparing, how do you want to experience this jubilee?
IGNAZIO= We are 29/30 years old, and this will be our first jubilee that we will actually experience, because the last time we were only 4/5 years old, we didn’t even know what it was, so we will live it with curiosity, hope because in these years we have been cultivating this word – is very much hope, hope for something better, hope that something can really change and there are many people who, in any field, in music, in politics, in religion in their own way are trying to change. Look at Pope Francis, who I have so much admiration for, such a humble person who plays such an important role and it’s not always simple, right?
DWI= Sure.
PIERO= In some way our greatest desire is to be able to contribute with our art, with music, also because in the past we have had the opportunity to live these unique experiences.
I believe that the year of the Jubilee, the opening of the Jubilee is a very important moment for everyone.
IGNAZIO= It was a wonderful experience and we want to thank you.
DWI= Thank you, I thank you, thank you Piero, thank you Ignazio, thank you Gianluca. Thank you because with your art you sow hope in this time that is in some ways so difficult and dark and music is this universal message that reaches all hearts.
Can I ask you to take a selfie so I can immortalize this moment!
IGNAZIO= Sure
PIERO= Wait, like this.
GIANLUCA= Higher, higher..perfect!!
What can I say, I don’t know about you, but I was very touched by the mature and absolutely relevant answers to the topic that our three young men gave.
Messages of hope and love, faith, energy and life.
I am deeply happy to be able to once again see the versatility of Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio who, just as in singing, can move from interviews with “light” topics to interviews with “deep” topics, without any problem.
I also really liked the lowered tone of our kids’ voices as a sign of respect for the place where they were.
Congratulations once again guys!! ❤️
The INFORM newspaper published this page on the event, in four languages, which I attach.
In the interview we talked about two events that occurred with Il Volo in the presence of the Pope and therefore I thought I would attach them and review them together.
Il Volo at the world meeting of families 22 June 2022

Il Volo a Panama, World Youth Day 2019

And after hearing and reading the beautiful words of Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero and listening to their beautiful voices, what better time in view of Easter to wish you all the best wishes from all the Flight Crew staff.

HAPPY EASTER

from the bottom of our hearts and may it bring peace to this troubled world.

THE LOCKDOWN AND PASSION OF GIANLUCA by Susan

In June 2020, the local TV station in Rosteo degli Abruzzo, Roseto TV interviewed Gianluca. Since this was the first time that such an event was taking place since the lockdown, it was decided that the interview would take place at Cabana Park overlooking the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
The segment was entitled “Gianluca Ginoble:  Il Lockdown, Le Passioni, L’Abruzzo, La Musica, Il Volo,” (Gianluca Ginoble: The Lockdown, the Passion, Abruzzo, the Music and Il Volo). Or simply The Lockdown and Passion of Gianluca.

You might ask yourself what does lockdown have to do with passion. Just consider, everything that Gianluca does is a passion and all that he gained from this time at home became another passion.
Gianluca was quite comfortable with the interviewer, Luca, an Abruzzo native that he knows well, and that is obvious in the fact that he was very willing to talk about his non-professional life. At times, the friends seem to complete each other’s sentences.

In this beautiful interview, Gianluca talks about his passions and his great opportunity to spend time at home with his family. He talks about all the things he would love to do every day but cannot do because he is away eight months out of a year.

It isn’t very often that we get to see Gianluca so relaxed and having fun during an interview. But, of course, being with his friend on the beach at his beloved Roseto degli Abruzzi makes it all special.

Let’s stop a moment and listen to what Gianluca has said about his country, his home….
The accents are beautiful, the dialects are beautiful, but I can say that what I prefer is the Abruzzese? I am very proud to be from Abruzzo. I love everything about this region. And I like to bring Abruzzo around the world and keep it high.

I am right at the sea. I’m relaxing, I’m calm! There is a sea breeze and nothing else. It’s Thursday and I am practically alone on the beach. I’m fine, from God! I’m fine because I’m home.
When I come home, I relax and I am calm, as I cannot be anywhere else in the world. And now, I can say I’ve seen a lot of places in the world. Coming home to Abruzzo, I feel like I am on vacation. Montepagano is right on top of the hill facing the sea, it seems to look like a postcard. It is here that I can get away from everything and everyone and stay in peace. Montepagano is a perfect place, a kind of paradise.

When Gianluca is at home he likes to spend lots of time with his family and friends.
The video of the interview with Roseto TV is no longer available but below you will find the English translation from the video. The interview was translated by Giovanna.
Giovanna said, as she listened, she realized that Luca wasn’t always asking questions.  He was pontificating, with pauses for answers, and as soon as Gianluca started speaking in the pauses, Luca would cheer him on, finishing Gianluca’s sentences, talking at the same time.  If you’re Italian or have been around Italians, you know that’s normal.

Daniela commented that during COVID, of the three, Gianluca was the most active on social media.
Ignazio preferred not to post a lot of images, but rather, occasionally used Instagram as a form of musical airtime.  You may have noticed that during COVID, he was posting tantalizing clips and snippets of his vocals, accompanying himself on piano or guitar, or singing with other performers.
Piero protects his privacy and home life more than Gianluca does, but still posted shots and videos of his workouts at home, in the gym, or outdoors in the sand.  And who can forget his daily vocal lessons.

Before beginning the interview, Luca explains it’s June 3, 2020, and he’s with Gianluca Ginoble, an internationally known artist, a Rosetano from their beloved Montepagano.

Luca begins his interview by asking:  How have you spent the quarantine period for the COVID19 Coronavirus emergency?
Gianluca: Despite all the negativity of the situation, I have tried to find positive things.  For example, I have re-discovered passions that I haven’t exactly abandoned, but, well….
For one thing, I have started playing the piano. I became passionate about books and literature, about being with my family, things that you well know get set aside when we are away eight months per year on tour.   You could say that this quarantine hasn’t really been completely negative, because I have been close to my family and have rediscovered passions that I didn’t even know I had.

After COVID we noticed that Gianluca was never without a book or two in hand.

Luca: That’s an interesting reflection because I think that the issue of rediscovering one’s roots and one’s family, and having personal time, is an important message.

Luca then asked Gianluca how he spends his days, in the so-called Phase 2, where there’s some freedom to go out (still respecting social distance) with masks no longer constantly required.  He asks what Gianluca’s up to now that he’s free to get out and do some things.

Gianluca: Because of the COVID we’ve had to cancel our series of concerts through October.  So, for this time I’ll still be at home.  We of course have some filmed interviews and televised get-togethers, as we’ve done during the quarantine.  But I’ve been relaxing. I’ve started playing tennis.  I’m enjoying the seashore at Roseto d’Abruzzi.  I don’t go to other places, even if you can go outside the region from today on.  So, I’m staying here.  Yesterday we were at Rocca Calascio.  Every week my family has a regular date to go hiking in the mountains.

Luca: That’s also a wonderful lead in, because I remember that for several years you’ve been an official ambassador both of Abruzzo, and of Roseto d’Abruzzo, your great love.  Yesterday, I saw the photos of you at Rocca Calascio, where they filmed “Ladyhawke,”so this in itself is a great way to inspire future tourism.

Gianluca: Look, Luca, with you, apart from the relationship of respect and friendship we have, going beyond this interview, I’ll tell you as a friend.  You have to have the ability, how can I say it, to set and achieve goals, even when you’re as young as I am.  But at the same time, I’m trying to maintain my roots, and my connection to that normal guy I used to be, who wanted to live a normal life.  It’s like I’m on a train track and every now and then I can jump from one rail to the other.  It’s really great to be able to live life like this.  I can always return here, stay home, and enjoy my family and my hometown.
I think what Gianluca is really saying is, at times, they (Gianluca, Piero and Ignazio) feel like they would like to toss it all aside and just remain at home with their family and friends. I know many people think their lives are exciting and glamourous and to some degree they are, but in reality they have very difficult lives. During COVID they got to go back to their real lives. Lives they never knew existed, because they left when they were teenagers, and now they got to reconnect with their families in a special way. This family life was new to them. The departure after COVID had to be very difficult for all of them.

Luca: Those who know you also know that one of your trademarks, one of the things that makes you very much loved, is that you have remained humble. The world of concerts, as you already said, is on hold.  How much do you miss that world, given that on an international level, for 10 years Il Volo made world tours, virtually continually for the entire 10 years since you started?  How much do you miss that life, since it has been such a fundamental part of you?

Gianluca:  I miss all the people, our fans. I miss tour life.  And above all, I miss singing. When I’m on a bicycle I’m singing. When I’m in the shower, I’m singing.  When I’m in bed, I’m singing.  When I work out, I’m singing.  When I’m on the beach I’m singing.  Because that’s my life.  It’s my relief valve.  It’s the way . . . it’s something that truly makes me feel good.  Fortunately, this passion is one of those things that you can do anywhere, even while you’re eating!
Luca: During this break, as we noted, you’re thinking about your roots, and things you put aside.  What makes you keep giving your best? Despite the fact that you’re only 25 years old for one thing and have already won Sanremo on the first attempt; you’ve won the Latin awards.  You’re Il Volo everywhere.  In Tokyo you’re Il Volo; in NY you’re Il Volo; In Texas you’re Il Volo.  What do you do to always have that grit that for 10 years has kept you at the world-class level? I can imagine that even with this planetwide success, when you sit down, or try to sit down, what is it that keeps you from really sitting down?  [That’s an Italian expression for laying back, taking it easy or giving up].

Gianluca:  Truly, you need to have the awareness, the slight fear, that it could all end.  You really don’t recognize the value of certain things unless there’s some risk you could lose them – not just in the work environment, but in relationships with people.  Truly, life has granted me so many things, emotions and experiences, at such an early age.  When I was still so immature, at 14 years old, I already started to travel, to be familiar with marvelous places and sights, to meet people, to sing in front of the president of the Republic, and in front of the Pope, for example.  Because it all started at such a young age, I didn’t have to make any great sacrifices to achieve success.  Really, the success and the emotional experiences came over me like a tsunami.  Surely, the part [of me] I need to cultivate is to restore that little boy who dreamed of becoming someone but knew it would take perseverance, who knew that at times the effort was going to be more important than talent itself.

Luca: As they say in Russia, talent is like a basket of diamonds in the rough. Without hard work they don’t become diamonds.  You spoke earlier about Pope Francis, about [Sergio] Mattarella President of the Republic, and I could add, Bill Clinton, Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, who helped create the phenomenon of Michael Jackson.  You don’t have to mention Quincy Jones to anyone who loves music. There would be too many anecdotes to recount from what I’ve heard about, but the most relevant since we are in Abruzzo, if you want to tell us about it, is when you had the assignment to traipse Woody Allen all over Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Gianluca: [Laughing] I would have wanted to speak in different dialects.  Every now and again I get to speak in other languages:  Chinese, American, it’s lots of fun.  But that time though, we chose not to, because we were at dinner with other people.  Next time, though, I’ll do that.

Giovanna’s Note: Can you imagine Gianluca and Woody Allen swapping languages and mimicking accents together?  I’d be in pain from laughing.
Luca:  Yes, I saw you with the nice soldiers in the Galleria in Houston [apparently joking in English].
Gianluca:  I did get to explain to him [Woody Allen] some things about Montepulciano.  I asked him ‘Do you like wine?  In my native region, Abruzzo, we have the best wine in the whole world, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.’  He told me ‘Montepulciano, I know it, I love it.’
Giovanna’s Note: I know every Italian thinks the best wine in the world comes from his own specific region of Italy, but Gianluca is telling the truth about Abruzzo’s fine specialty red – the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.  It competes with the Barolo from the Piedemonte and the Brunello di Montalcino as one of the top reds in all of Italy and the world.
My personal Note: Not because my family is from Abruzzo but Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is my favorite wine!
Luca: That was more valuable than a thousand ad campaigns.  Like when Lebron James shared some of his favorite wines several months ago on Instagram and generated a hundred thousand “likes” for a local winemaker in Abruzzo.  How lucky that winemaker was.
Luca continues: You’ve talked much about how important your hometown is to you, but I know you also like the ancient village of Montepagano.  I’ve seen you walking around now and then taking photos.  I know you live in a marvelous place where you can even enjoy the view of the sea from above.  I know you’ve never wanted to lose connection with your roots, and this, I imagine, gives you strength.  But if you had to describe this to someone who doesn’t know you, what would you want to say?

Gianluca:  Every young person, every child, needs to grow up with the knowledge that their roots are the most important thing:  like their family, their dialect.  We need to raise children this way, and young people my age, especially those who already have children, need to teach real values, including their own dialect. I’m ashamed that I even see people who are actually embarrassed to speak their own dialect, as if it were a bad thing, instead of a fine thing.  Even if you only speak it to make jokes or when you get angry.  Without it [understanding your own dialect], you make no sense.  So, I am really proud to be Paganese, Rosetano, and Abruzzesse. “Abruzzo Forte e Gentile” [“Abruzzo strong and kind” is the local byword].  Every time I go to Belvedere [another historic spot inland from Pescara, Abruzzo], it’s emotional for me.  When I’m on tour, I show pictures of Montepagano and Roseto to everyone.  Because look, [he turns around to show the seashore behind him] this is maybe one of the most beautiful places on the entire Adriatic coast.  You have to be really proud.
Note: I agree with Gianluca that it is important to remember your dialect. My grandparents spoke Italian but when the relatives from Abruzzo were visiting, they always spoke Abruzzese. It’s different and at times we kids laughed at the strange words, but it was what made my grandparents stand out. They left Abruzzo behind, but they did not leave the language behind. Also, the fact that the beautiful family traditions have not been lost. When I write about Gianluca at Christmastime or Easter, I could be writing about my own family. Our traditions are similar and in some cases the same. Traditions make families!
Luca joked a little bit about local dialect and that when you teach the hidden meaning of some expressions, to a Milanese or to an American, how wonderful it is when you see them explode into a smile.  He also added that there are some things, expressed between locals with one word of dialect, that would otherwise take an Italian five minutes to hatch (explain).
Luca: What projects do you have?  We know your passion for tennis, know you are practicing the piano, and like to draw.  Talk to me though about your desire to act.  [Gianluca responds about music right here, and about acting further on].

Gianluca: My musical tastes vary.  I rarely listen to opera, because I like great musicians, guitarists like John Mayer, and great singers.  I’m glad you asked, because I want people to know that I like the full 360-degree range of musical styles.  And you know that I have a passion for all genres of music, including the type our group sings in concert, but in the future, who knows.  Il Volo is the main priority, but I adore artists like Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra.  I even like Led Zeppelin, a fact that unfortunately was mis-represented by journalists who sometimes write anything to get “clicks” and “likes” in the media.  I like them all: Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, I like this music.  Another thing that really moves me is the music of Georgio Gaber, of Fabrizio De André.  Dad passed on to me a passion for these singers.
We can see in the answer to the last question some hints of what their music would be like in the future. The idea that each man would find the music that speaks to his soul was already in play. The soul searching became a reality! The idea came to light! Together they continue their musical journey but with their own musical passions.

Luca:  Your father has very refined taste even in songwriters.  This is a Gianluca that has never come out, so it’s right to emphasize this, and I’m happy you brought it up with us, because you’ve often been misunderstood before.  So, you love music in the fullest sense.
Gianluca:  On Facebook I published a list of the songs I like best with text, like the French song interpreted by Franco Battiato, a song about old lovers that melts you, it’s so heartbreaking in parts.   So, there are so many projects.  I’d like very much to act, I’d like very much to be an actor, maybe to go to Rome to study; I don’t know.  There are so many projects, and for this year that we are inactive, I’m focusing mostly on improving myself.
Luca:  Days off are constructive time.

Gianluca: Then, with Il Volo there are so many projects.  We have a very beautiful musical project we’re working on, but for now I can’t tell you too much about it.  In the future, we’ll see.
I believe Gianluca was referring to the Morricone project!
Luca:  Of course.  But I’m happy to assure the many fans of Il Volo that, as soon as the situation allows it, you’ll return stronger than ever.   So, you’re working on this project; and it’s something important.  It’s also important that you miss your fans and, as you’ve said, you’ll be back with them as soon as you can.

Luca continues:  One last thing.  What is your idea of happiness?  What is happiness for this 25-year-old who has remained humble?  Define happiness for Gianluca Ginoble.

Gianluca:  That question was certainly profound enough.
Luca:  The tough one came last.
Gianluca:  Happiness for me is to live my passions, “mano a mano” all my life.  To have a wonderful family, to have friends you can talk to about things, to let your problems out.  Even when there are problems, knowing that there’s someone you can vent your problems to, who listens and understands.  For me that’s happiness, knowing that I don’t feel alone.  It’s also the feeling [I get] when I’m on the stage and sing for thousands of people.  For me that’s also happiness.
Luca:  So, with this beautiful reflection on happiness, which I really appreciate, I thank you Gianluca Ginoble of Il Volo.  Thanks, Gianluca, and obviously, I wish you a great and successful life with the many things we talked about, and with your many projects.
Gianluca:  For doing this interview, Luca, you’re number one.  I said it to you and I’m saying it even looking into the camera.
Luca:  Thank you.  You’re too good.  Thank you also for your friendship.

Gianluca was so open and forthcoming in this interview. I think this was one of the best interviews Gianluca ever did. It brings out the real Gianluca. The passionate young man who loves his family, his country, his music and while he was in lockdown he found some new passions like piano and reading. Gianluca doesn’t read books he devours them. We come away from this interview with a passion of our own. A passion for all that Gianluca feels is important in his life and shares with us in our lives. The Lockdown and Passion of Gianluca brought out a new level of awareness for Gianluca. He reached new levels of achievement and expanded his intelligence.
