In the two photos below, you can clearly see all the people outside the cordoned off and darkened concert area. There are many people and all of them, even if from afar they attended the concert for free. 😉😁
An article from INFORMATISSIMO, the Newspaper from Putignano.
Il Volo a Monopoli: the dream concert organized by the Association. The Missing Piece
The event in Cala Batteria was a triumph and will remain in the hearts and memories of the spectators.
The fabulous musical trio of Il Volo arrives in Monopoli reaching the stage by boat, by sea. This is how the concert of the “Tutti per uno-Capolavoro tour” began, amid thunderous applause from the large audience in attendance.
A true enchantment among the musicians’ songs and other interpretations of immortal hits that have made the history of Italian music, with tributes to great artists.
Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero, the three Italians who bring the Italian “Bel canto” around the world, accompanied by a splendid orchestra, were able to truly excite that small but evocative part of Monopoli, Cala Batteria, the location that hosted this great show of the music and that the whole world could admire.
An extraordinary intuition therefore that of the Il Tassello Mancante Association, organizer of the event, the only date of the tour in Puglia. “The first to believe in it with us was Pasquale Vurro – the organizers declare – an authentic concert magician, betting on the uniqueness of this event just a few days before his painful death…”.
As further confirmation of the success achieved, the avalanche of post-event satisfaction certificates expressed on the Association’s Facebook page by spectators who also praised the high organizational level.
Il Tassello Mancante thanks the public present and all those who in any way made this event possible, from the sponsors to those responsible for complex but unique logistics such as that of Cala Batteria.
15 years after their debut, Il Volo will celebrate the musical milestone achieved with a world tour with a series of concerts, which will also take them to Dubai, Athens, Barcelona, Sofia and London in the autumn.
August 26 DIAMANTE
In the Calabria Region in the municipality of Diamante, a beautiful town on the Tyrrhenian sea, in the beautiful Teatro dei Ruderi.
In Diamante, there was also a special person in the audience and that was Francesco Boccia, the one who wrote Grande Amore and who with great pride films all the people who rejoice listening to his song.
Ruins Theatre. Closing like a “Masterpiece” with Il Volo
Record with Il Volo in “Capolavoro Tour – Tutti per Uno” at the Teatro dei Ruderi in Cirella. We receive and publish the press release.
Yesterday, in the archaeological area of Cirella Antica, an important page of history was written for the live show in Calabria with the concert of the Musical Trio that brought Italy into the world.
An unprecedented festival masterfully directed by Alfredo De Luca, created with the contribution of the Calabria Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Diamante. Yesterday, with Il Volo, the event that involved the entire Riviera dei Cedri, reached 45,000 spectators from all over Italy and abroad. A live performance that enchanted the entire audience present with over two hours of setlist, ranging from tributes to Lucio Dalla and Ennio Morricone up to the pieces that made the trio famous throughout the world such as “Grande Amore” and “Capolavoro”. The trio is made up of two tenors and a baritone: Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble. They were the first Italian artists to have signed a direct contract with an American major label, Geffen. A Diamante standing ovation with a riot of applause for the concert that concluded the 2024 summer program. Local musicians were also involved in the show, within the orchestra that accompanied the trio for the entire concert.
The artistic director Alfredo De Luca, together with the Mayor of Diamante Achille Ordine, awarded the prize for best live with orchestra to the artists who managed to combine a classical repertoire with modern style and arrangements, including pop songs revisited in a classical key. De Luca finally concludes: “An important page has been written in the live entertainment of our region. Very strong media impact for the entire national festival. A year of programming to stage 14 live shows with artists of national and international caliber, one after the other. A clear message that reaches everyone, Calabria can open the doors to the best live shows around. It certainly wasn’t easy, great credit for the organizational machinery goes to the police, who deployed all their skills, in ordinary and extraordinary hours, to facilitate the influx and outflow of all the public. The biggest thanks goes to the public, willing to reach the archaeological area by traveling many kilometers by car, on foot, by bus, by train or by taxi to attend the concerts, spectators coming from all parts of the nation and beyond. Accommodation facilities full until the end of August, dispelling the myth of the central part of the month being an important tourist figure.
We must always try to activate synergies to ensure that the regional territory grows more and more. Thanks also to the local authorities involved and the municipal administration of Diamante who contributed to making the event one of the most important of the South”.
The TEATRO DEI RUDERI published these beautiful words:
Il Volo enchanted the audience at the Teatro dei Ruderi with an evening of pure musical magic! From the power of the biggest hits to the delicacy of the most modern songs, the trio has demonstrated once again why they are among the best of their genre. Each song was a masterpiece of elegance and virtuosity.
And here are Ignazio Piero and Gianluca with the nice prize they received.
But let me say that one of the most touching moments of the concert was this, when two boys, Graziano and Mirko and I approached the stage and attracted Piero’s attention.
They asked to sing a verse from IL MONDO. And our generous boys didn’t have it repeated.
Enjoy this video and the skill of these two kids, who definitely don’t like rap!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Mirko published this photo with these beautiful words:
@mirkoofficialmusic Today I find myself writing these words with a heart full of gratitude. Realizing this dream, which I have nurtured for so long, is one of the most intense and fulfilling experiences of my life. There were moments when I thought it was just an illusion, an aspiration too great for me. But every time I doubted, there was someone of you ready to encourage me, to remind me how important it was not to give up. I know that the road is long and this is just one of the many stages that gives me the strength and courage to look to the future with enthusiasm.
Thank you very much to all of you. I look forward to continuing to share the successes to come with you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Il Volo ❤️❤️
Truly a beautiful moment, thanks also to the generosity of Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio and the skill of Mirko and Graziano!! ❤️
August 27 Roccella Ionica
We are still in Calabria, in Roccella Ionica, a beautiful town on the Ionian Sea. The concert will take place in the Teatro al Castello.
The guys arrive for the soundcheck.
I attach to you these three beautiful videos recorded by the local television TELEMIA.
Grand finale for the Roccella Summer Festival 2024 with Il Volo: an extraordinary success.
The Roccella Summer Festival ended in style with the Il Volo concert, a highly anticipated event that sealed the success of this year’s music festival. After a season full of emotions, which featured prominent artists such as Biagio Antonacci, Annalisa, the Pooh and Mahmood, the Teatro al Castello di Roccella Jonica hosted the last unmissable date of the trio’s summer tour, entitled “Tutti per uno – Masterpiece”.
Il Volo enchanted the audience with a memorable concert, in which songs from their new album “Ad Astra” were performed, the first entirely composed of unreleased songs. This work marks an important stage in the artistic evolution of the group, which has been able to expertly mix unreleased pieces with the greatest successes of the Italian musical tradition and their consolidated repertoire. The live performance represented a true musical journey, celebrating the trio’s 15-year career, which began 2024 with the song “Capolavoro”, certified Gold after its presentation at the 74th edition of the Sanremo Festival.
Yesterday evening saw enthusiastic and warm participation from the public, who filled the suggestive open-air theatre, confirming once again the great appreciation for the event, created thanks to the collaboration between Ticket Service Calabria and the administration municipality of Roccella Jonica. The Roccella Summer Festival has established itself as one of the flagship events of the Calabrian summer, supported by the Calabria Region as part of the 2024 cultural promotion events, financed with Pac 2014/2020 resources and by the Calabria Straordinaria brand.
After this extraordinary closure, Il Volo will continue its summer tour with further dates in the most fascinating locations in Italy, and then move, in autumn, to the main European capitals and, in 2025, to the United States, Canada and Latin America. The Roccella Summer Festival, with a very high-level programming, has proven once again to be a reference event for the promotion of culture and music in Calabria.
Other shots of the evening.
Il Volo with the orchestra.
This video is also very nice for TV, turn on the subtitles.
And so three more concerts ended and I would say with great success and a participating and enthusiastic audience.
I’m so happy to see people so involved and read so many nice comments.🥰
Our three young men have to run further south, Sicily awaits them, there are the two concerts in Agrigento which I think we will know little about.
But we have resources, because a friend of ours from Canada is going to both concerts so…….😉
For now there is only a lot of controversy about these two concerts and as usual the Italian press is fueling these stupid controversies with sometimes grotesque articles which are mainly for the organization of the two concerts, but which consequently also affect Il Volo. 🤬
Fortunately, Il Volo and all the staff do not respond to these useless attacks, no comments from them who seem not to care about these inappropriate articles.
Here I am back, I was away for a short holiday, but apparently Il Volo hasn’t been stopped even in these days, in fact I read that it hosted a private party, but, as always, let’s go into detail. 😉
In Potenza Picena, a town in the Marche, the region near Abruzzo, there is a factory, Golden Plast, a company specialized in the production of thermoplastic components. This year Golden Plast celebrates 30 years since its foundation and is currently a very thriving company, so its owner wanted to celebrate with all his employees, offering them a wonderful day that began with a conference, a speech by the owner, a dinner and then ended with an unforgettable evening entertained by Il Volo. 🥰
In the video below you will see some moments of the evening.
“…. the most awaited moment of the evening has arrived, with the arrival of Il Volo greeted by the ecstatic crowd. Being in the Macerata area, the trio could only open the dance with a tribute to Jimmy Fontana. IL MONDO is immediately an explosion of notes and great emotions, “it has never stopped for a moment”, just like Goldenplast in these 30 years.”
Caracalla’s concert had excellent reviews, I propose this article from STYLE MAGAZINE.
THE IL VOLO TOUR STARTS WELL: TRIUMPH AT THE BATHS OF CARACALLA. AND IT’S JUST THE BEGINNING.
Volo triumphed at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. The first concert of the Tutti per Uno – Capolavoro summer tour, produced by Friends & Partners, sold out immediately. The audience, which responded with overwhelming enthusiasm to the trio’s live performance, was packed with fans from as far away as Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina and Japan. A united and borderless audience, like the art of the group that breaks down barriers and ranges between different musical genres. During the live show, Il Volo presented the songs from the album Ad Astra, their first unreleased album, together with the greatest hits of the Italian musical tradition and the group’s now consolidated repertoire. A beautiful celebration, given that in 2024 the band celebrates 15 years of career. The party actually began in February with the success of Capolavoro, a Disco D’Oro song presented at the Sanremo Festival. After the live dates in Japan, the boom of Tutti Per Uno (a project by Michele Torpedine) arrived: three special concert events with numerous guests at the Verona Arena, broadcast on Canale 5.
After the Roman debut, the summer tour will continue until September in the most evocative locations of our country. (the long list of Italian concerts follows).
In autumn Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble will continue the tour in the main European capitals. The party will then continue in 2025 with the “indoor tour” Tutti per Uno – Ad Astra Live in the indoor stadiums, in addition to international dates in the USA, Canada and Latin America.
PIERO= Hello everyone, we are at the Baths of Caracalla for the start of this tour which will see us busy in all the most beautiful places in Italy throughout the summer.
IGNAZIO= Venice, Piazza S. Marco….
GIANLUCA= Pompeii….
IGNAZIO=…… Pompeii, Florence….
PIERO= Sicily, Macerata….
GIANLUCA= We will sing in the most beautiful places in Italy and then conclude the Italian tour in the sports halls in January, we are waiting for you.
PIERO= Bye everyone.
On June 16th Ignazio published this nice photo…… ……it’s the beautiful Michelle’s birthday!!
Happy Birthday Michelle!! 🎂🎂🥂🥂🍾🎉😍
With very little notice, the news was published that an award will be awarded to Il Volo on June 20th:
“While waiting for the upcoming Tuscan concerts of the TUTTI PER UNO – CAPOLAVORO tour, on Thursday 20 June the President of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani will hand over the Pegasus of Tuscany to Il Volo, the trio made up of two tenors and a baritone: Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble.
The ceremony will take place at 2:00 pm in the Medici Park of Pratolino (Florence) in the Sala Rossa of Villa Demidoff.”
Pegasus (mythological horse with wings, indomitable) is the symbol of the Tuscany region.
And here is Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero with the Golden Pegasus delivered by Governor Giani who published the photo with these words:
“Il Volo goes to the Golden Pegaso, the highest recognition of our region. Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio bring the values and tradition of Italian music culture to the world!”
The arrival of the boys in Tuscany.
And here are the moments of the awards ceremony:
(The governor of Tuscany fondly remembers that when there was NOTTE MAGICA in Florence, in Piazza S. Croce, he had just been elected. He remembers the effect of the beautiful songs with the backdrop of the beautiful square.)
(In the video Gianluca explains how they made the album Ad Astra, which represents personal and artistic growth.)
“This morning, now a month after the first of the two concerts, the presentation to the press of the Tuscan stages of 22 July and 5 August was held in the Red Room of Villa Demidoff. On this occasion, the president of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani presented Il Volo with the “Pegaso”, one of the institution’s highest honours. The mayor of Vaglia Silvia Catani and a delegate from the Metropolitan City of Florence, owner of the Marco Mediceo di Pratolino, also participated in the presentation.”
Il Volo will stop in Tuscany with two events of their ‘Tutti per uno – Capolavoro’ tour: on 22 July in Florence at the Medici Park of Pratolino and on 5 August at the Puccini open-air Gran Teatro in Torre del Lago (Lucca), in Versilia.
Today the presentation, at Villa Demidoff in the Medici park of Pratolino, in the presence of the trio, composed of Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, and, among others, the president of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani, who on the occasion gave Il Volo il Pegasus, symbol of Tuscany, among the highest honors of the Region.
During the concerts, explains a note, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the music of Ad Astra, the first album of unreleased songs by Il Volo, which this year celebrates 15 years of career, and in the greatest successes of the Italian musical tradition and their repertoire.
“We are thrilled to return to Tuscany with two extraordinary concerts – underlines Il Volo. The memory of the 2016 concert in the beautiful Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, where we performed with Placido Domingo, and the warmth of the Tuscan public always fill us with gratitude We are also thrilled and honored to receive the ‘Pegaso’, a prestigious award, which represents an important recognition for our commitment to promoting Italian culture and music in the world. We can’t wait to share our music with you first album of unreleased songs, Ad Astra, and the songs we have inherited from our cultural heritage. It will be a unique opportunity to celebrate our 15 years of career and the beauty of this land with the power of music.” Giani honored the three artists “For having become ambassadors of Tuscany and Florence in the world. And this thanks to the extraordinary concert held on July 1st 2016 in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence from which Il Volo produced a CD and a DVD which made reliving for millions of people the emotions of a unique and unrepeatable event in an equally unique and unrepeatable scenario”. “I still remember their concert in Santa Croce – he added – “Notte Magica” which represented and launched an evocative message, bringing the image and charm of our region beyond national borders and overseas and for this we are grateful to them.”
(turn on subtitles)
The Rai3 news also talked about the award ceremony.
Here is the video of the conference held at Il Volo, the mayor’s words, the journalists’ questions, the arrival of the President of the Tuscany Region, his speech and the awarding of the golden Pegasus. As usual, Ignazio always pleasantly tries to lighten things up and make people smile. 😁 (Turn on subtitles.)
But it didn’t end there, because on June 22nd Il Volo participated in BATTITI LIVE, a Radio Norba broadcast that hosts many singers and was held in Molfetta, a beautiful town in Puglia.
Here is the video of the releases:
Some pictures:
And here is the video of the evening, Il Volo sang CAPOLAVORO and GRANDE AMORE.
What can I say, the very young audience reacted by singing at the top of their lungs along with Il Volo, what a thrill!! 🤩🤩🤩
And finally, Il Volo received IL TELEGATTO award from the weekly SORRISI E CANZONI TV.
The TELEGATTO was a famous award established in various categories for merit of TV and radio programs, but also deserving people. There was an annual gala evening with the awarding of the Telegatto d’oro(gilded bronze), in short, like an Italian “Oscar”.
Since 2008 the prize has been abolished, but in 2022 it has returned in an ecological version (the new Telegatto is made of recycled plastic and in three colours, yellow,blue,fuchsia), there is no longer a gala evening and it involves the award several times during the year to artists and prominent figures in entertainment, music, sport and the social world.
Other good news:
The Roseto Gentile Festival is born in Roseto degli Abruzzi, and his famous fellow citizen Gianluca Ginoble will be appointed ambassador of kindness. Appointment from June 21st to 23rd.
The Roseto Gentile Festival kicks off in Roseto degli Abruzzi, scheduled from 21st to 23rd June. Organized by the Movimento Italia Gentile association, in co-planning with the Municipality of Roseto and other associations, the event will be dedicated to wellness practices that involve body, mind and spirit and will be enriched by a special event: the appointment of Gianluca Ginoble as ambassador of the kindness for Roseto degli Abruzzi.
WOMAN= The Kindness Festival of the city of Roseto and the appointment of the Kindness Ambassador goes to Gianluca Ginoble. (cheers)
MAN = (he reads the motivation) The feeling of kindness which is not only expressed in politeness, but above all in attention towards children and the elderly, in respect and sensitivity towards the environment, in participation and in the sense of belonging to the Rosetana community represented throughout the world.
GIANLUCA= You make me move.
WOMAN= All true things!
MAYOR = (he makes a speech starting from when two years earlier they proposed this Festival of Kindness to him which has now materialised. He thanks the councilor who worked hard for this festival. In the end he asks Gianluca for permission to use “poetic license” by calling the event a great “capolavoro” )
The award is given to Gianluca who in the end confirms that he is:
Paganese and Rosetano!! (citizen of Montepagano and Roseto)
And here is the moment of the Festival where Gianluca talks about kindness. Wonderful words come from the mouth of Gianluca who once again confirms great maturity and sensitivity, I translate everything for you. 😍
GIANLUCA= I truly believe that kindness is the greatest gift, perhaps structural, we are born with it, we can definitely work on it over time. It is a bridge that places us outside of our ego, of our subjectivity, to learn to listen, to enter the interior life of others, to understand the requests for help that can start from a gesture, a word or a simple look, that’s it. It’s also empathy, and I think that’s a rare gift. It was passed on to me by my family, and then all children also go through imitative processes, I believe that it is also important, in my opinion the most important thing is to have an education that allows you to grow up in an atmosphere of purity, and this purity of soul that I have always tried to convey through my voice and gestures. I always say that you have to start worrying when people don’t stop you anymore, when people don’t compliment you anymore or maybe they don’t listen to you anymore, because mistakes can be made, especially at a young age, but I think it’s really important. work on oneself, and also go through knowledge, knowledge of feelings, of readings, literature helps a lot, and philosophy helps in my opinion to also understand ethics, morals, understand how to behave in everyday life and surround yourself with “pure”, beautiful, true people who allow you to grow and become the best version of yourself. (applause)
WOMAN= Do you want to ask Gianluca a question? (it is addressed to Daniel Lumera, biologist , sociologist and writer, professor of wellness sciences and meditation, the man sitting on the sofa with Gianluca)
LUMERA= I ask you this question:
Have you ever managed to find kindness even in pain, in loneliness, in abandonment, in failure, in death? What is kindness for you deeply, how have you experienced it, are you able to find it even in difficult moments?
GIANLUCA= I am only 29 years old and despite this I have experienced moments of great joy in my life, but also of pain and I understood that in reality true growth only comes, perhaps, through suffering, accepting it and not chasing it away, as when perhaps we try to push the anguish under the carpet, trying to never face the problem. Otherwise we never grow, we never put ourselves in the position of facing the difficult things in life trying to avoid them, so I welcomed suffering, I contemplated it, even death, perhaps of loved ones, so as not to be unprepared, even if then no one is truly ready for death, whether ours or that of others. Real suffering is when people leave and those who remain really suffer, and must learn to accept it, like the end of a love which can be a small mourning, which leaves us great life lessons, these things allow us to grow and learn to love, to be more selective.
I have always surrounded myself with “kind” people, I must admit that I have never even received disappointments in my life, sometimes I think about it… why?…, I don’t know and this is truly a privilege too. I believe I have never hurt anyone, even if we are all beginners, even in love, it can be discussed but trying never to offend the sensitivity of the other, I, even in my relationships, try to deeply understand the needs emotions and I try to understand them fully so as not to make the other person suffer, to give care to friends, to the person I love, to my family, and to the time I spend with loved ones, because then love is a feeling that does not possess but frees, so from this point of view I believe that it is like the unconditional love of a mother, she will love you for your whole life, she will give you all of herself without ever asking for anything in return, well, I believe that this is the purest act of love, which we must try to nourish, cultivate with everyone, a universal love. (applause)
LUMERA= Tonight many surprises, many improvisations on the theme of kindness. In recent years kindness has expanded (as a movement) think it has arrived in the Maldives, an island in the Maldives has named itself Gentile Island in Barcelona, which I think you know, it is the process of kindness that is happening. So kindness is a value that apparently goes against the trend. The root of the word kindness comes from the word “gens” the people, which was a noble family of ancient Rome, a nucleus of belonging not necessarily biological, of people who created a sense of identity and belonging through their ability to take care of others, and in this period in which we create identity and belonging also with a sometimes political sense, starting from the creation of an enemy, with an extremely violent verbal language, kindness is a provocation, and in a patriarchal society it is also considered a great weakness and now I ask you, first of all, if in your profession which has led you to travel the world internationally, despite there being pressure, what value does kindness have? Exists? And above all, how do you experience them in your art? In singing, can the voice be gentle? When can he be kind? At 29 you are a very wise and very sensitive person, in your speech there is an incredible depth and sensitivity, how can kindness be useful for you? For you it is an inclusive process, because it is part of your identity, as well as that of your land.
GIANLUCA= Don’t you think that even by setting a good example, it can be a way to try to transmit it? I try to always be myself, I don’t even want to give lessons, I’m still very young, I would never allow myself.
However, I believe that it is true that we are not all the same, that we are all different. Many people may not know love because they have never been taught it. There are those who have had childhood traumas which then spill over into adulthood and are difficult to manage in my opinion, so that’s why we shouldn’t even judge those who don’t know how to be kind, but try to understand, help them understand their story, their past, we are all completely different. I have also tried to cultivate it by getting used to not being judgmental towards others, and I believe this is the most important thing, to never judge. Maybe gossip, we like to know what others are doing, we shouldn’t judge by putting ourselves on a pedestal as if we were better beings, as if we were never wrong, when in reality we too are like them if not worse, so by questioning ourselves, constantly, I think that’s the secret, definitely. (applause)
I have no words to comment on the events and awards received by Il Volo in this period.
Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca are currently experiencing a golden period here in Italy, they are much admired and appreciated, not only by the people who comment on them benevolently, but also by the various newspapers and TV news.
Unfortunately, their songs are still played very little on the radio, the music from the new album has NEVER been played on the radio, the only one you hear sometimes is CAPOLAVORO!
But despite everything there has been a great reversal on the part of people, now people admit that they listen to Il Volo, that they go to their concerts and above all they admit that they are really good singers and also good people. I just hope that this period continues for a long time because the three of them really deserve so much. ❤️
While the Italian summer tour was in progress and then the one in Canada-North America-Australia, I received some concert reviews you attended.
I could not publish them before, because I was busy following all the various stages of the Il Volo tour, but now that Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca are at home, I intend to publish them.
I start by publishing the Ostuni concert review that came to me from Leena.
Leena is a Finnish woman, married to an Italian and they have two children. They live in Finland and in the summer they come to Italy on vacation.
I have known Leena thanks to the publication of the Ostuni concert. You remember that in the comment of a video, I explained that a woman had raised a sign that read:
“I come from Finland and I love you.”
Well, Leena read our post published on the Facebook page and understood that we were talking about her, she wrote me a message: “It was me with the sign, thank you, because I didn’t understand that Piero had read and commented on it”.
So we got in touch and exchanged many messages.
Leena, in Finland teaches Italian to a class of nearly 50 adults. She also talks about Il Volo and sometimes she uses their book “An Extraordinary Adventure” to give lessons, isn’t it fantastic???
But here’s her review:
The concert in Ostuni on July 26, 2022
I could not believe my luck, that of having the opportunity to attend a concert of Il Volo, only because this year they had decided to stop over in Ostuni and only because at that time we were already in the neighboring region for the holidays. Even now, after three months, I still can’t believe it. It seems something detached from my everyday life.
I would say that the one in Ostuni was a routine concert for the boys of Il Volo. It was still too hot when the concert started, if I remember correctly thermometer in the center of Ostuni showed 34 degrees (93 degrees Fahrenheit) and the heat there of Puglia is a humid heat that suffocates.
I had already noticed on the streets of Ostuni that there was very little publicity for the concert, practically I only saw some billboards hanging near the town villa but that billboard also advertised all the other concerts of the “Soundtrack festival” of that one week, not just theirs. I was sorry about this because I couldn’t understand why there was so little publicity given their talent and international fame.
On the evening of the 25th, while walking in Ostuni, I heard an American tourist say to their phone, “Tomorrow they will sing there,” so maybe this person too was there in Ostuni for the concert.
About a week before the concert they sent us the message in which they said it would be possible to attend the soundcheck in Ostuni. I was overjoyed because I had hoped so much since I didn’t intend to attend the M&G after the concert. On the day of the concert they called us for 6:20pm at the main entrance of the Foro Boario, the place of the concert.
The Foro Boario is a former market square for the cattle, in the shape of a stadium where they now hold concerts, and is surrounded by high walls.
When they let us in we all lined up, maybe there were 8-9 people. They sang three songs: Grande Amore, Nessun Dorma, and No Puede Ser.
I could notice many interesting things: Gianluca had a little sore throat or was it mildly cooled and seemed very suffering from the heat, Ignatius seemed the most relaxed of the three while Piero was the one who entertained us talking into the microphone throughout the soundcheck. After trying No puede ser, Piero was not happy with the performance by the musicians . After that song, it was clear that it was all over and I think they were leaving without getting off the stage to talk to us, therefore, I took courage and I am rushed to Ignazio and I asked him if they accepted gifts, so I delivered him the gifts I had bought in Finland, he seemed to me extremely kind and good.
If I had had more courage I would have asked him for the autograph for their book “An Extraordinary Adventure” that I had with me at the soundcheck but since they hadn’t gone down, I didn’t want to disturb them.
Now I regret it bitterly, if only I had had the courage to ask for that autograph, I am sure he would have done it to me. Maybe there will be another occasion.
After the soundcheck I went back to our accommodation, ate and then, I am back to the Forum again. I immediately noticed that the audience was composed mostly by people older than me, people aged 50 upwards, mostly by ladies but also by their husbands. This thing surprised me a little bit because I was expecting a slightly younger audience but I was pleased see that Il Volo attracts this type of people (perhaps people a little like me). The audience was very calm and polite, the atmosphere was very familiar and in the air there was this great expectation and enthusiasm among all of us to see and listen to the boys.
The concert started almost on time, at around 9:37pm and lasted exactly two hours. They sang 24 songs.
Here is the lineup in exact order (I wrote them down during the concert):
1. The Ecstasy of Gold 2. Nessun dorma (short version, only the first verse and the first chorus) 3. Il Mondo 4. Se telefonando 5. Se 6. Granada 7. Your Love 8. All by myself (Ignazio) 9. Your Ssong (Gianluca) 10. Un amore così grande 11. Delilah 12. My Way (Gianluca and Piero) 13. Hallelujah (Gianluca and Ignazio) 14. La donna è mobile (Ignazio and Piero) 15. Io che non vivo senza te 16. Here’s to You 17. Medley from: L’ amore si muove – Musica che resta 18. Can’t Help Falling in Love (Gianluca) 19. Caruso 20. Volare 21. Surrender 22. O ‘sole mio 23. Libiam de lieti calici 24. Grande Amore
When they got on stage and started singing, I heard right away that Gianluca’s voice no longer seemed as cold as it had been at sound check. Really very good !! I don’t know how he could fix it in a short time. We had the fourth row seats on the left so I was a lot focused on him during the concert. I noticed he had put on, or a makeup artist had put on him, a lot of black eyeliner on his eyes, this thing stood out immediately. Instead Piero and Ignazio seemed without makeup either, at least I didn’t notice anything. They started by singing the first three songs and only after the third did they start talking. When they finished “The Ecstasy of Gold” or “Nessun dorma”, I don’t remember exactly which one, Gianluca turned towards us, and with a little bow and with his hand over his heart he told us : “Good evening everyone”. You couldn’t hear it but I read the lips. After having sung “ Il Mondo”, they welcomed us and gave some compliments on the beauty of Ostuni, Gianluca said : ”How wonderful!”looking at the old part of Ostuni on the hill (I laughed because Gianluca says always “how wonderful”).
Ignazio immediately started joking saying that those people who had gathered at the foot of the city walls were tax evaders because from there it was possible to follow the whole concert without paying the ticket. Then they continued to sing. I remember that after “Your Love” Piero and Ignazio were terribly serious and also sad, they remained in silence in front of the microphone for a while. I know they think of Vito when they sing this song and I know that too little time has passed since his death but in Ostuni they didn’t mention it in any way.
My heart breaks too every time I hear Ignazio sing this song (I presume to say that I know exactly how it feels because I too lost my father at 25 and in my opinion at 25 is too young to lose a parent). Perhaps others in the audience have also heard this because even if we were sitting scattered in the stalls and in different rows, far from each other, it occurred to us to raise the billboards at the same time to lighten the atmosphere a little. I had made a big billboard, sticking together with tape cartons made from four packs of brioches and pasting on some sheets of paper on which I had written:
“I come from Finland and I love you.”
It had taken me hours to make it. When I raised it I was so excited that Piero’s immediate reaction escaped me. I only heard his question, “How do you say I LOVE YOU in Finnish?” But I absolutely didn’t want to shout it at him among the nice ladies who were sitting around me, and then also because in Finnish it is long, there are eight syllables (MINÄ RAKASTAN SINUA), I don’t think they would have remembered it.
They sang several songs without introducing them. This got me thinking that they were in a hurry to finish because they were really tired. I could also be wrong, but I had the feeling that Piero was looking forward to reaching Agrigento for the long-awaited concert in his native land, and Gianluca was just really exhausted by the heat and the frantic rhythm of the tour (Ostuni was their fifth concert in seven days, the tenth in the whole month). I wanted to hear a lot of their speeches, too about their career , but they talked little about it. They only said that they three who had met on that program and who had put them together and since then they sing and go around. I think they were almost too modest !!! Maybe their modesty is something that goes away with the years … but this is their still being very young, they are all less than 30 years old, it is another thing that I only understood attending this concert. Just watching them on TV I didn’t realize. You almost want to protect them the way you protect a child.
(Leena at the concert)
Before “Your Song” Gianluca did a slightly longer monologue on the importance of parents during adolescence, he was very sweet.
When he speaks, an enormous wisdom transpires, it makes me think that perhaps he reads a lot or that he spent a lot of time with older people when he was little. Personally he is my favorite of the trio when it comes to vocality, I’ve never heard anyone sing so well. It opens completely to the public, sometimes when he sings in certain songs it seems to me that he cries, with his voice. In my opinion he is the foundation of the group. Also as a physical presence, he looks like a god of Antiquity or a man of Renaissance. I looked at him there in Ostuni from my place and thought: “Now I look at this singing god. “ There are no words. I have seen many of their performances on YouTube and you don’t understand it when you only see it on your computer screen, but now that I’ve seen it live, I immediately noticed that it has a lot of dramatic presence.
This was my first impression during the soundcheck when I saw him and thought that this man was born to be an actor. And he would also be good … But let’s hope not because we still want him for a long time singer. Or if he wants to, he has to keep singing too.
Piero is the one who on stage keeps the rhythm with the speeches with the audience, has a way of speaking a little “professor” while Ignazio knows how to be both, very playful and very serious.
Perhaps Ignazio is the one who is more in the hands of the three. His interpretation of the song “All By Myself” was wonderful. He has such a clear voice and crystalline voice that when he sings loudly, I sometimes think it’s as if he were screaming his despair to the world, and it’s beautiful. Immediately after “Delilah” he entertained the audience by saying that his pants were broken, perhaps he said it in all the concerts, but the joke was so well done it seemed improvised.
A lady sitting not far from me said to him: “Come here, we sew it for you!” And the other ladies around us agreed. Piero commented: “Here we have many expert seamstresses.”
Compared to previous years, in my opinion they have become a little more serious, they do not joke more, as well as before. In Ostuni Piero and Ignazio teased a little Gianluca and Gianluca defended himself but never belittling them or in a vindictive way.
However towards the end of the concert they appeared very worn by the heat. Gianluca’s hair had become full of small curls due to the humidity and because of the heat, he must have sweated a lot. During the last song “Grande Amore” I raised my billboard for the second time, which I had done with so much love and dedication. Piero was positioned exactly in front of me on the stage and had it revised. He smiled shyly and nodded his head. I did not think that even Piero was so shy … I knew of Gianluca, that he had been at least as a child but now after the concert in Ostuni I know that Piero is a bit too. When I think about it again and I get excited … Piero gave me an excellent impression during the whole soundcheck and the concert even if in Ostuni he has not sung his solo. He took us very seriously and wanted us to be well and kept a good memory of it.
After they finished the concert, they still had to welcome the people with a smile because they had purchased access to Meet & Greet. I felt bad for the boys because they were exhausted. There were maybe 20 people waiting for this meeting. I did not take the ticket because in my opinion the price is exaggerated and I had already paid a lot for the tickets for all of my family.
I was very lucky to be able to attend this concert because the next day we still had to go to another concert, that of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Puglia, in the same place, but they decided to cancel it shortly before due to strong wind.
My big dream is one day be able to attend one of their concerts in Finland. Here they are still little known but at least in my small way I try to spread the word thanks to my work.
They are the best trio in the world right now and it’s impossible not to love them. Besides, if they never come here in the North, I’m sure they will other occasions to see them again in Italy.
Now, my sign is here, hanging in my home, reminding me of a beautiful concert.
Leena
Thanks Leena for the wonderful review.
It is truly remarkable that you try to make Il Volo known in Finland by teaching Italian.
See you soon with more reviews: Daniela 🤗
LAST MINUTE NEWS!!
A new book has been released and written by Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero.
It goes on sale November 8, but you can pre-ordered it on Amazon.
The title is: Il Volo, WHAT I CARRY IN THE HEART
I’ll translate the presentation for you.
Il Volo is the Italian music trio that today more than anyone else represents Italy in the world.
Since the success of Sanremo in 2015, it has had an unparalleled escalation of notoriety, which has led Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio to perform in front of millions of spectators, during the various intercontinental tours, due to which they are often far away from home.
But it is not for this, indeed perhaps by virtue of this, the bond that the three artists have with their lands of origin, with their roots and their families and traditions, remains very strong, and always represents an emotional and sentimental comfort. .
In this book the three boys talk about themselves, precisely in the light of that indissoluble bond that characterizes their artistic expression: an intimate, personal and extremely intense story of their past, their present and their future.
And last night, we were able to see the entire duration of the Il Volo performance in La Notte della Taranta.
Here is the video and what was said:

On stage there are the musicians and Albano who leads the evening.
From behind the stage the voices of Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca can be heard shouting, almost singing, a phrase in the Apulian dialect (they ask who has olives to sell).
ALBANO = What a beautiful song!
PIERO = Hello Master. Good evening
ALBANO = I am still a student and I want to stay that way.
GIANLUCA = Good evening everyone.
IGNAZIO = (asks ALBANO) What do this phrase remind you of: (pronounce the phrase “who sells olives?”)
ALBANO = (I remind you that Albano was born and lives in Puglia)
Meanwhile it reminds me of the autumn song, I called it, the November song.
It was the period of olives, of the olive harvest, a man always passed with a cart and shouted (he sings the phrase in Apulian dialect together with Ignazio)
IGNAZIO = Yes, I remember (Ignazio jokes, he was not yet born)
ALBANO = For non-Apulians, this sentence must be translated: “Who has olives, I have to buy them”, this was the message, and whoever had olives in the house, went and sold them, and that way, people got some money, of course. (peasant people always had at least one olive tree near home, in Puglia, the olive tree is very widespread, and when this man of the cart passed by, people sold him the olives they had picked from their tree)
But the beautiful thing was when I listened to Modugno (he wrote Volare) on the radio, on national radio, and finally he sang in the language, he finally sang in our language (Apulian), and there the pride exploded with all its violence, with all its beauty.
IGNAZIO = So let’s hope, with this next song we will sing, to make you even more proud of your land.
ALBANO = You know that I am proud to have you here beside …..
GIANLUCA = …. and we are happy ….
ALBANO = …. simply because I baptized these two (it refers to Ignazio and Piero, and by saying baptized it means that he has already had the opportunity to sing in pairs with them, during Ti Lascio Una Canzone) and to you (Gianluca) you I baptize this evening.
GIANLUCA = One day, sooner or later, we will sing you and I together.
But it is nice, I can say, that these events make it possible to spread a musical culture like this of the Taranta, and it is right that young people are attached to the roots of these great events.
But we must not lose this desire to carry on traditions, we too, as young people, are proud to be here tonight. (applause)
ALBANO = Do you sing now?
IGNAZIO = Now!
ALBANO = And I listen to you now !!
(Calinitta begins, beautiful song in Grico dialect, mixed between Greek and Apulian)
I found a text translated into Italian by Calinitta (Buonasera), and then, I translated it into English for you, to make you understand the meaning of the beautiful and sweet words sung by our boys with such ardor.
How sweet this night is, how beautiful it is and I don’t sleep thinking about you and here behind your window, my love, of my heart I open my pains to you.
larilò larilò lallero …..
I always think of you, because you, my soul, I love and wherever I go, I will wander, I will stay I will always carry you in my heart.
larilò larilò lallero …..
Yet you never loved me, beautiful, nor did you ever have pity on me; you never opened your beautiful lips to tell me sweet words of love!
larilò larilò lallero …..
The stars from above are watching me and with the moon they whisper in secret and they laugh and tell me: “to the wind throw the songs, they are lost .”
larilò larilò lallero …..
Good night! I leave you and run away you sleep that I left sad But wherever I go, I will wander, I will stay, I will always carry you in my heart.
larilò larilò lallero …..
Really very good Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca to interpret this beautiful song.
Elegant in Dolce & Gabbana suits. I know well that many of you do not approve of sneakers, but you must understand, that here in Italy, Il Volo is accused of always dressing too much in a formal way and therefore sneakers are needed to give a youthful touch.
Ignazio has a long beard, I am not in favor of a beard in general, I prefer a barely hinted beard.
Their voices, that is, always magnificent.
Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero were then interviewed by the official page of La Notte della Taranta.
Here they are :
WOMAN = Let’s start from the basics, how do you say goodnight in Greek?
PIERO = Calinitta
GIANLUCA = Calinitta.
WOMAN = And then, how does this song go on ??? (Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero sing a verse from the song)
GIANLUCA = Right?
WOMAN = Quite right !!
GIANLUCA = So you (inhabitants of Puglia) all speak Grico?
WOMAN = In Greece-Salento yes!
IGNAZIO =(explains to Piero) When the Greeks come here on vacation, the local elders understand them, because the older ones still speak the Grico dialect.
PIERO = Great.
WOMAN = What do you think of La Notte della Taranta?
IGNAZIO = It is certainly one of the most important cultural events in Italy, and welcome, because I always say that Italy is a nation full of different cultures and traditions and certainly these events give space to make known their own traditions and culture, and therefore we are honored to be part of it, alongside ALBANO, an Apulian DOC, which has never forgotten its origins and there is also MADAME (young singer) who is a young woman, like us.
Hence the importance of carrying the roots, ALWAYS, in any situation, in any place.
WOMAN = It will be a rock Calinitta, according to Melozzi (the orchestra master)
GIANLUCA= It is a symphonic rock, which is also the secret of Queen (rock group), if we want to talk also musically about the history of the great artists who have always brought symphonic rock all over the world.
IGNAZIO = Calinitta Queeniana.
GIANLUCA = Melozzi is a great musician, moreover from Abruzzo, I am also from Abruzzo, I always speak of my land, sorry, and therefore it is nice that there is also a little of Abruzzo in this Taranta and I am proud of it.
WOMAN = Calinitta !!
PIERO = Ah, Calinitta ciao everyone!
GIANLUCA = Calinitta.
Only one song, unfortunately, but really beautiful and full of meaning and our young people gave a very beautiful and traditional version.
Furthermore, Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca certainly do not hide their attachment to traditions and origins. Well done.
But we have to run, let’s leave Puglia, Venice is waiting for us !!
Yes, on the evening, August 28th, in Melpignano in Puglia, the Notte della Taranta took place, which we will see on RAI1 on September 4th. Only 1,000 people were admitted to the event, but something we like has leaked.
First of all I have to correct what has already been said, because the newspapers had written that Il Volo would have played the role of co-host with Al Bano, but the news was false, because Il Volo was expected as a super-guest.
But here they are, in this photo, during last night’s event.
The thing that intrigued me most, is that Il Volo performed in a song that is certainly not part of their repertoire, Piero Ignazio and Gianluca, they sang Calinitta (Kali Nifta is the original title), a typical song of the Taranta and above all it was sung in the ancient language, original of the area: the griko.
Griko is a dialectal language that derives from Greek and was used in the Salento area, in Puglia, the area where the Notte della Taranta is held.
Here is a short video of their performance, which we will see entirely on September 4th.
And some photos of the evening.
Ignazio, Piero, and the master Melozzi.
A short report in the news of TG5.
VOICE = The music of the tambourines, the frenzied dance, and the song, which become tools to drive away, today, as in the most remote past, ghosts and fears.
The Notte della Taranta returns to illuminate the Salento summer. Only 1,000 spectators were allowed into the square of the former Augustinian convent of Melpignano, in the province of Lecce. But the thrill of finding the public, after a closed-door edition (2020), pervades the artists.
AL BANO = Even before the radio arrived, even before the television arrived, this music accompanied us during the span of 360 days, because the other 5 were of rest, from music.
IGNAZIO = Surely seeing the public again, it’s always good, after this period, after all these months, after this very difficult year.
VOICE = conducting the orchestra Enrico Melozzi and Madame, the revelation singer from Sanremo.
Il Volo with Albano
And here is a video, still incomplete, of the exhibition, but longer than the previous one.
Certainly a very different musicality from the usual one of Il Volo, but which has its roots in the peasant culture of the area, and, like any tradition, must be well-liked and maintained, and brought to the attention of the new generations, always !!
Bravo Il Volo who also lent themselves to this message.
A backstage moment with the artists’ signature on the large tambourine.
But there is also more, news has finally been published that reveal something about the video of Il Volo in Frasassi.
Frasassi Caves increasingly protagonists of the international star system. Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro (director of photography and three-time Oscar winner for Reds, Apocalypse Now and The Last Emperor) has chosen Volo as the protagonist of his short film about Ennio Morricone. The performance of the well-known trio, composed of two tenors and a baritone, was shot inside the suggestive caves of Genga.
Piero, Gianluca and Ignazio performed here in an exciting interpretation of “Your Love” (from “Once Upon a Time in the West”). The piece will be screened on 5 September in Venice during the fourth edition of the Filming Italy Best Movie Award, on the occasion of the Venice International Film Festival. “We are honored that Vittorio Storaro has called us to share the indescribable emotion of Maestro Ennio Morricone’s music – says Il Volo. We thank the Filming Italy Best Movie Award for inviting us to the Venice Film Festival to collect an award that is never like today. We want to share with all those who in this difficult period have supported us in our heartfelt desire to pay homage to Maestro Morricone.”
Here are the beautiful words of the director Vittorio Storaro.
“The vaccines and treatments will allow the reopening of art sites all over the world. In the caves of Frasassi the trio of Il Volo symbolically descended into the womb of Mother Earth as did the speleologists who discovered those caves fifty years ago. Through their art, which represents a new root, their song is reproduced, trio after trio. Il Volo fills every place that welcomes them: theaters, arenas, squares and archaeological sites all over the world: the energy of art so regenerates all forms of life.”
So you got it right.
In Venice, on the occasion of the Filming Italy Best Movie Award evening, Il Volo will receive the Special Award, and on that occasion the video made in the Frasassi caves will be screened.
And here is the answer from Ignazio, Gianluca and Piero.
“We are honored that Vittorio Storaro has called us to share the indescribable emotion of Maestro Ennio Morricone’s music – says Il Volo – We thank the Filming Italy Best Movie Award for inviting us to the Venice Film Festival to collect an award that is never like today. we want to share with all those (teams, technicians, musicians, … but also our fans) who in this difficult period have supported us in our heartfelt desire to pay homage to Maestro Morricone.”
A short backstage video of what we will see shot in Frasassi.
Please click on the logo below to view the video.
So we also added a great prize to our boys.
I am really happy with this umpteenth milestone and therefore a new event that we hope will be broadcast and of which we will certainly give you all the possible news.
See you very soon!!
