ROMA, The Eternal City ~ by Daniela

In Italy on April 25th it’s a holiday. Liberation is celebrated, so my husband and I left for a short holiday, four days in Rome.

Piazza San Pietro - Vatican City

These days I saw fabulous things, indeed re-seen, because I’ve been in Rome many times, but every time, I discover something new that I like and that fascinates me.

The weather was magnificent, in fact I would say almost summer, but without being suffocating. Beautiful days, with a sky of an intense blue.

I returned home on the evening of April 25 and scrolling through Facebook to see if there were any news, I had the great surprise to see some beautiful photos of Rome, posted by the Ginoble family.

I had them at hand, we saw the same places on the same day and we did not meet ????

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE!!!!

Instead it was just like that, but let’s start from the beginning.

Since April 25th is a national holiday we included a visit to the Altar of the Fatherland, where our President of the Republic would present the laurel wreath to the “unknown soldier”.

And here’s what Ercole Ginoble has posted, the ceremony at the Altar of the Fatherland.

But I was there too, here are pictures with the police in full uniform who are preparing for the tribute to the president.

Then I went to see the beautiful Trevi Fountain, magnificent, so white, so full of people.

But what do I see? Also Mrs. Lenora Ginoble has posted the photo of the Trevi Fountain.

I was there too!!! But we have not seen each other.

And here’s my picture.

Continuing on Via Condotti, we arrive at Piazza di Spagna, beautiful in these days, because the steps of Trinità dei Monti are literally covered with azaleas.

Once again, Mrs. Ginoble posted a beautiful picture.

Really nice with the fountain of Barcaccia in the foreground …….. but once again I was there too !!!

And what do I find out? Ernesto was there too with some friends.

What a misfortune, I did not see any of them …….. but I saw a beautiful city, so I’m so happy.

I do not know what the Ginoble family has done yet, but I have continued my nice ride.

The Temple of Fortuna Virilis.

The Colosseo. Really mammoth.

The Mouth of Truth ….. it did not bite my hand !!

Wherever we turned, there was something to admire.

Then the beautiful Vatican Museums and its masterpiece: The Sistine Chapel.

Ok, I admit, I was sorry not to meet the Ginoble family, but then I realized that Gianluca was not with them, and thank goodness, I raised my spirits.

I confirm, for those who have not yet seen Rome, it is full of beautiful treasures and monuments.

Of course, as promised, I thought a lot about the whole crew while I was in Rome. Yes Jill, you’re right it would have been great to be able to meet all of you in Rome.

Hello Rome, we will definitely be back again …… but how many of you were in Rome?

~ CHICCA ~ by Daniela

The group “Torino Aspetta il Volo e poi” shared a nice post that published a beautiful question:

WHAT SONG

HAS CHANGED

YOUR LIFE ???

In the various answers, one has attracted me a lot, this one.

L’AMORE SI MUOVE has changed my daughter’s life, and consequently, also mine.  With this piece she won the gold medal at the Italian Fisdir Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.

She is a girl with Down Syndrome.

In 2017, however, in Rimini, a bronze medal with PER TE CI SARO’.

So her mother has attached the video of the bronze medal.

Here she is:

I found some news on this girl. Her name is Francesca Giovelli (for friends, Chicca).  She is from Salerno and is a fan of IL VOLO, especially Piero.

Here she is in her gymnastic dress.

Watch the video of happiness when, at Christmas, she received the book as a gift: IL VOLO UN’AVVENUTA STRAORDINARIA.

Really moving, and now here she is with the pass for the concert.

…… and with her beloved Piero !!!

Tanti Auguri, Gianluca!! Happy 23rd!

Ciao a tutti!!

bd gg 1Yes, I know it’s been a little while since Gian’s birthday, just about a month to be exact!  Thought we could use a little party to perk us up, while waiting for their new CD and movie to come out!

Due to various other parties being booked on Feb 11, we had our Gianluca celebration on Feb 10, instead!  It was our 4th annual party at Antonio’s, celebrating Gian’s birthday.  Can you believe it was 3 years ago, that we celebrated on their Sanremo night of honor?

bd gg 2

Our little corp group of six were there, along with Barb from Sterling Heights.  Due to this rough flu season, as well as the Fri – Sun snowstorm, several couldn’t make it.  We missed those that could not make it, especially Magdalena, from Toledo; Barb, from Westland; and Betty, from New Orleans!!

We met about 5p at Antonio’s in Dearborn Heights – our favorite haunt for Gian’s birthday!  🙂  As always, there was good food, conversation, cake, and lovelybd gg 5 presents from Donna.

We even had a surprise, special guest – Mama Rita!!  We saw her when we met there at Christmas time and told her we’d be back for Gian’s birthday.  She must have seen us on the reservation list, as she made a point of stopping by our table to say hello.   We invited her back to share dessert with us.  We went on our way to eating, drinking, and opening our presents… We saw Mama flitting around the restaurant in her hat and scarf and had to ask the waitress to send her over for cake.  She said she thought she had left.  But we waited patiently and there she was!!  She graciously joined us for cake and sat down at our bd gg 4table for a little while.  She was definitely the “hostess with the mostest” as she offered us limoncello or Sambuca, and cappuccino or espressos!  We graciously accepted both offers!  I have to say, it was one of the best caps I had ever had!  🙂

Again, it was a lovely evening and we were honored with such a special guest at our table!bd gg 3

We were lucky, the snow had pretty much stopped by the time we had left.  We did get a wallop that Friday before!  I think we did get nearly 6 to 8 inches.  Spring is right around the corner now and we are already planning our party for Piero.

If you live in the Detroit area, everyone is welcome!!  Let’s make some new friends and fans!  🙂

Tanti Auguri!!  Next stop, Piero!  June 24!  Can you believe our beloved Piero will be a quarter century old?  Hey, he’s catching up to us!!  🙂

Homage to Gianluca – by Daniela

Daniela sent us this touching story….

In these days there was Gianluca’s birthday. All the fan pages were invaded by beautiful wishes that started from all our hearts. Certainly there is so much love for this sweet boy.
One of these comments has attracted me a lot, it is written by Maura Pucci who is a big fan of him, she is 84 years old.

On the occasion of his 23rd birthday…

 a1-g1

In 2009 he immediately hit my imagination. Indeed, it struck me straight to the heart.

I was already a grandmother of ten grandchildren, two of them roughly his age. I was disconcerted, but also bewitched, by his deep voice, coming, incredibly, from a boy with an angelic face and dreamy eyes.

Almost nine years have passed and his voice has taken over time all the nuances that the age, still unripe, still not allowed. A versatile voice, so many different and easily distinguishable voices.

I think of the amazing WIRE OF VOICE that concludes the first verse of Notte Stellata, tenuous and subtle as a sigh, to WHISPERED PARTS  of many of his interpretations, but, at the same time, to the DRAMATIC and THEATRICAL voice of Aranjuez. I think about the CARESSING and LIGHT voice with which he tackles the beginning of many songs, at the SOFT and SENSUAL voice of a true crooner, but also at the AGGRESSIVE voice of Delilah; I think of the POWERFUL and JOKING voice of Rossini’s Dance, the HOT and PASSIONATE of Musica Proibita, the POWERFUL and TRIUMPHAL of the “Vincerò!” by Nessun dorma. And I can not forget that DEEP and SOLEMN of the religious and / or Christmas songs, to which it gives the indispensable touch of majesty and sacredness. These are his voices … from concert. I add that CHARGE OF RHYTHM AND SWING, exhibited  till now in particular interpretations outside the stage.

So many voices for a chameleonic singer, as was defined by an expert, an American vocal coach, who, after praising the excellent VOCALITY, added << … His voice is a tool >>
More than singing, Gianluca interprets. Because he sings with all of himself, with his eyes, with the expression of his face, with the movements of his hands, sometimes even with the posture of the body. In one word, with FEELING. Does not give the feeling of doing a job, but a mission: to transfer to those who listen to the passion for music that accompanies him since he was a child.
He brings on stage all the qualities that distinguish him in private life. Always in pursuit of perfection, he is PROFESSIONAL AND SIGNORY in behavior, but willing to “let go” when necessary; CHEERFUL AND SMILING, sometimes also VIVACY, never too exuberant, SPIRITUS, with measure, CONFIDENTIAL, but not as timid as it used to be, AFFECTIVE AND AVAILABLE with the fans.a1-g3
Even in private life, this is the quality that connotes it in every circumstance. It is in fact a boy ROMANTIC, SWEET, TENERO, CHARGE OF AFFECTIVITY, towards family members, friends, children, the disabled, and always AVAILABLE with everyone, even with the fans who visit him at home in his rare moments rest. Finally, I would like to underline it, HE is SINCERELY MODEST. I have not forgotten what he said in an interview, which, despite having had idols that sing, since childhood, and still having them, he found it hard to believe that he, in turn, became an idol for many people.
This is “my” Gianluca, these are the qualities that I personally perceive in him: a son, a brother, a nephew, an ideal friend, beyond his indisputable qualities of singer and performer.
a1-g2Happy birthday, my boy! I wish you all the best in the world.

~ Magnifico…MY WAY ~ by Jane and Penina

Penina wrote me that a friend of hers sent her this video of the Three Tenors (not the two tenors and a baritone!)  singing My Way in Los Angeles.  The cool thing about it was that Frank Sinatra was in the audience watching and appreciating their performance.

In response Penina sent her friend a video of the boys singing the same song.  Her friend’s response to the video sent was one word, “magnifico!”

If only Frank Sinatra could sit in the front row RIGHT NOW and watch Gianluca and Piero give such timeless beauty to this song of his.  He would be so proud of these three young Italian men who are bringing their bel canto to the world and keeping his legacy alive by honoring his song.  Mr. Sinatra did it HIS WAY and IL VOLO is doing it THEIR WAY.  Yes, he would indeed be very proud of them.
