IL VOLO: THAT ENERGY by Daniela

Perhaps it seems to you that IL VOLO in this period is resting ……… not at all !!

These guys are tireless, they spin like spins. They have participated in different events, but let’s recap well together.

That Energy 01

Tuesday 26 June, RAI1 broadcast the recording of the third evening of the WIND MUSIC AWARDS, is a recorded event, but there are new interviews.

Here they are:

The boys are asked about new projects, but they do not say anything new, they just say that there are many projects and then they talk about their next five concerts.

And here is their recorded performance.

But we, live,  left IL VOLO at the Milano concert, after which, Piero returned to Sicily because, as you have all read, he started school exams to get the diploma. Poor Piero, managed to do the two written exams, and then flew to Sorrento, where he found Ignazio, arrived together with Torpedine, arrived from Bologna, and Gianluca, arrived with Ercole from Montepagano.

They participated in the PREMIO AGNES event, and finally Wednesday in RAI1 broadcast the video of the evening.

There it is.

The video brings together the two performances of the boys, who opened the evening with the beautiful CARUSO, sung impeccably, a pity that they made the shorter version of the beautiful song.

Then the boys concluded the event singing GRANDE AMORE, but first they received from the mayor of Sorrento, a wonderful recognition.

This is a sculpture in terracotta depicting the door of Sorrento, with three singers below, practically the three boys of IL VOLO. Really very nice this award, the boys are very happy, this award was not absolutely expected so it was a pleasant surprise.

Immediately after the PREMIO AGNES, Piero had to return immediately to Sicily to finish the school exams and the other two returned to Montepagano and Bologna.

The same evening that the PREMIO AGNES was broadcast in RAI1 (Wednesday),

Gianluca with Torpedine and Bartoletti, was engaged in Fano, at PASSAGGI FESTIVAL, an event dedicated to publishing, where he was presented the book of Torpedine and the new book by Bartoletti. The presence of Gianluca has attracted many people in the square of Fano.

And so we arrived on Thursday, and a message arrives on the various pages fans …….. IL VOLO will be present at LA VITA IN DIRETTA, a live program on RAI1.

And here they are, Torpedine in the studio and connected by Firenze Gianluca and Ignazio, so the guys are in Firenze, but Piero is not there.

Nice interview conducted by Barbara di Palma.

(I had the opportunity to talk with Barbara from Palma in Milan and she told me that she really loves the guys and if someone speaks badly of them she pulls out her nails to defend them, Daniela.)

The boys and Barbara joke about the lack of Piero, then Ignazio says that Piero remained in Sicily because he got the diploma, everyone is happy for the result and compliments Piero. Ignazio jokingly says, that now Piero, with his diploma, can look for a job!!

That Energy 08

Both Gianluca and Ignazio, remember that they were lucky to have an impresario like Torpedine, whom they value and to whom they love very much.

They also say that there will be many surprises for next year but they never reveal anything more.

The presenters try to find out from the boys some of the surprises for next year and Barbara says that maybe they can not reveal anything, so the cunning presenters say that Torpedine has asserted that they can unveil something. Ignazio answers and immediately says, “I do not think Torpedine has consented” and everyone laughs because Ignazio did not let himself be trapped by the presenters.

That Energy 09

Gianluca says that IL VOLO is the representative of the BEL CANTO, but that the times change and they are young, so they will try to keep up with the times to please young people too, so they want to renew themselves and have their repertoire.

Ignazio says that they do not want to distort what they are, they want to keep what is IL VOLO, in short, stay in the pop-lyric, in the wake of GRANDE AMORE.

Gianluca and Ignazio, end the interview by announcing that they are in Florence to participate in a football game for charity Cure2Children Foundation.

The blue won, 5 to 4. Three goals scored to Gianluca and one Ignazio.

But these guys are good at everything!

That Energy 10

Damn, but these guys never stop! But how many energies do they have?

Guys, try to rest because next year, for the tenth anniversary, we want to see wonderful things and you will need lots of energy !!

WIND MUSIC AWARDS by Daniela

On June 5 and 6, the WIND MUSIC AWARDS took place in Italy. This event awards Italian artists who have had the best sales during the year and also the largest number of people attending the concerts, the so-called “live” prize.

IL VOLO was expected in the second evening. The event was recorded and will be broadcast by RAI 1 on June 12 .

Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca received the “live platinum” award for a presence in the Italian concerts of over 100 thousand people.

WMA 01

The guys arrived in Verona in the afternoon to take part in the rehearsals, here is the video of their arrival.

We did not know what song they would sing, usually there is only one song, and I sincerely hoped it would be “Noche sin dia,” because the Arena was full of very young people, also what better stage to present the new single?

Evidently, the refusal to listen to the single in Italy, was observed and so, the choice went to a mix between “L’Amore si muove and Grande Amore”.

They are two beautiful songs and, even if it’s just a video recorded from the top of the Arena, it’s great to see the total ensemble and to let you listen to how the audience sings with the guys “Grande Amore.”

In addition to the compliments, the guys were asked what programs they have for the future and Gianluca has confirmed that there will be BIG SURPRISES.

Of course, hearing all the people singing along with the boys makes me shiver …..

Here are two other videos taken by the public.

And here’s a special photo. The boys are in the company of Federica Andreoli, and Francesca Loy respectively they are the producer and actress of the film Un Amore Così Grande.

Expect other awards.

Wind Music Awards 2018 by Daniela

Of course you all knew the news:

IL VOLO will be present at the Wind Music Awards 2018.

WMA June 5

The event will take place on June 5th at the Verona Arena, which on its historic stage will resound the notes of the greatest hits of recent months with the performance of the stars of Italian and international music. There will be many guests, and like all, even IL VOLO, will perform a single song.

The question arises: What song will they sing ?????

Since the WMA audience is essentially a young audience, that wants to move and dance, I hope that for that date, the new single has been published.

I think that making the new music would make us feel, in an evening like this, over the top. Moreover the boys have warned us several times that with that Latin rhythm, they will make us “dance.”

So, I hope we will all be ready to dance with them!

The Wind Music Awards! June 5 & 6, 2017 – Arena di Verona! – by Myron Heaton

The “ WIND MUSIC AWARDS” and some other thoughts for this summer of Il Volo 2017.

I was pleased to view the Wind Music Awards presentation today and to see that our group, Il Volo, was presented with an award honoring 1myronthe fact that their Notte Magica has achieved a Platinum album level of sales (meaning sales of a miniumum of 50,000).   Also, in this category, Amazon lists “Notte Magica” as number one in sales. There are also some other awards they have won this year having to do with sales and honoring the fact that they are the best Goodwill Ambassadors that Italy has ever had to the rest of the world.

During the presentation the guys sang Nessun Dorma again, which makes sense since this song has a very, very wide audience around the world – opera lovers or not. But only one song is not a good way to judge a singing performance. Usually we have 15 to 20 songs to use for source material, but I will say that the guys’ singing artistry was very fine as usual. If I were to make one tiny comment it would be that they sounded a little tired – vocally – which makes perfect sense. After all they have been on tour ever since the last part of January with only a few short breaks and further more they have more to do yet up to near the end of July. That is a lot of concerts. One good thing I noticed when they started here in the USA in February was that they are avoiding having two or more concerts back to back to back. That sort of poor planning really hurt them during the 2013 Latin America tour. If you play Trumpet and break it then you can go out to a store and buy a new one but if you ruin your voice you cannot go to the store and buy a new one. The human voice is very resilient, but sometimes we push it too far and it does not bounce back fast or, maybe, at all. The Latin singer Jose Jose is an example of that sort of thing. He can never sing again – ever. You may remember that for the Latin Grammy awards show a few years back the boys sang Jose’s “El Triste” on a program where they were giving him an honor. He received the award and could barely talk – sounded like gravel – too much over singing, too much booze, too much drugs, and too much bad living. Thus, Il Volo sang his song for him.

I have written about this already, but want to share it again. When the boys came to Las Vegas this March they had been already fighting the desert-dry throat since Los Angeles so here our people made sure that there was humidity on stage and plenty of water bottles.  My point is that because of taking good care of themselves, vocally, they sang one of the best concerts of the whole USA tour.  This sort of thing has to be handled and taken care of from one moment to the next through all 2 ½ hours of the concert. But these guys are very smart about handling themselves. I sat in the front row and (as a vocal coach) admired tremendously how well they adapted. The singing was SUPERB! Less well trained singers would have coughed or broken phrase or sang out of tune. I know because I have heard some very famous singers give way to exactly that.

But not our boys. They had it under control from beginning to end. This is what professional singing is all about. Not just the money. All that and the fact that this program is THE most demanding set of songs that they have ever put together for a concert. The famous tenors did this program when they were in their 50s, but our boys are doing it in their early 20s. Bravo !

We need to hope that they keep this pacing steady as they head into the next batch of concerts. I am so proud of these guys.

My two cents worth….(Jana)

On the 2nd day of their performance, the guys did a “360 loop,” opting for a change in dress from their formal wear for Nessun Dorma, to a more comfortable leather and jeans, to sing their cherished hit, Grande Amore!  The guys didn’t miss a beat, battling downpours of rain – even stepping out from the stage to get a little wet – all for the love of their fans!

They were also presented with a new award this year.  They received the “gold” award for audience attendance.  This seemed to be calculated only using the concerts from Italy during May 2016 to May 2017.  The gold range level was from 40,000 to 100,000 audience attendance.  Per Daniela,

The concerts from May 2016 to May 2017 are taken into account. I believe, but it is my opinion that only Italian concerts are taken into consideration, at that time (2016) the concerts in Italian palasport had already been made, only Florence And Verona that you also saw (6000 + 12000) then concerts in 2017 in Italy but only until May, so the major ones were Torino 11.000 milano 11.000 Verona 24.000 (both night) Roma 12.000 (both nights) then others have more capes small Ancona, Roccaraso  Livorno and Bologna.

Last night they were good, admirable for being differentiated from the rest of the performances and also brave to bring a piece so busy on a very light evening. They have shown yesterday that they are serious professionals, elegant, mature at their age. Today they are three boys in jeans and leather jackets, show their age, have been addicted, certainly more suitable to this type of audience, they were cool and nice. They sang under a rain shower and Torpedine accompanied them to the drum. Bravo in both cases, have shown two faces of IL VOLO, they can do it.

Thank you to Daniela who sent us the link to the show!  Watch it before it is gone!

The last 3 years of memories for the WMA – what will the future hold for them next year?  Only time will tell….  Maybe they will win a movie award of some kind for Notte Magica or Un Amore Cosi Grande?

We can only hope, but no matter what, they continue to soar upward and onward, setting their own flight path and no one can stop them!

Hope you enjoyed this post by Myron with a few bits from Daniela & I.  Photo/video credits to all owners….

Ciao!  A presto!
